Look, I just read it how the update put it out. I personally, never used decisive strike. The only time I tried was in the past, but it would only let the obsession at the time use decisive strike...which led it usually being a waste of a perk slot if someone else brought it. This put me in the habit of just never using it. I don't know how I can forget how Decisive Strike works with OTR if I don't even know what you are talking about. I mean, I've never used either of those perks, so I wouldn't know how they work together. Honestly, I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm focusing on what I know, yeah. So, if I don't know something, I'm not going to include it in my post.
To quote DBZ Abridged Krillin, "woah, hostile."
I was talking about general response to Off the Record then you, specifically.
Nevertheless, I always thought Decisive Strike's rules were generally known, even if people didn't use it themselves. Once active it stays active for one minute or until you do something to progress the game (heal, work on a gen, etc), whichever comes first. Things that are now called a Conspicuous Action. This same rules apply to OTR. You have its effects for 80 seconds or until your do a Conspicuous Action (or at least endurance I'm not entirely clear myself if all the other effects are lost or not)
Hence "Borrowed Time with Decisive Strike rules"
-
I feel like people focus on the 80 second of BT while forgetting it works on Decisive Strike rules.
Unless you're in the habit of doing little of value to your team while DS is up, I don't imagine Off The Record will be much different

They made a change yesterday, if your character is P1 for the patch, they will be pushed to P3 when it goes live. That is why I am prestiging survivors.
Ah. I misunderstood that part a bit when I saw it. I think I'll stay my course for killers, though. More cakes than I'm willing to lose. Survivors I may prestige if they don't have anything particularly valuable to me on them.
-
"Tunneling is a good thing. CHANGE MY MIND"
No. The statement is so obviously unhinged that, whether it's trolling or delusion, it's not worth the effort either way.
-
I've got everything unlocked on my main (Jeff) so prestiging Survivors hasn't a priority for me.
That said I've got everyone in place to be able to at least Prestige 1 out the gate. Maybe P2 if I put BP indy making sure they ask have 70 tiers unlocked (more like 73 since I'm not assuming their initial 3 perks count)
I've mostly focused on my Killers where having a variety of perks unlocked on everyone is much more valuable.
-
Speaking for myself it's less the amount and more the principle. You're right that 20,000 bloodpoints isn't much; it's better than the initial 50,000 simply by virtue of being an amount you can conceivably earn in one game. For me the issue is it's a new cost that previously never existed whose presence contradicts the devs' stated intent to reduce the grind and was created in the name of a "Bloodpoint Economy" I'm not sure if actually a Thing.
Put another way, what do we gain by having the Prestige Toll that we don't get by not having it?

The worst thing is that now you're forced to prestige, which means you're also forced to pay a tax it wasn't there before, and before you we're not forced to prestige.
These are just horrible changes.
I prefer "toll", calling it a tax is an insult to actual taxes which do serve a function, while tolls effectively bar your progress until paid.
-
"Prestige is mandatory???"
Mandatory and costly. Worst of both worlds.

@bm33 said:
20k BP is still too much if they are forcing you to prestige at level 50. I'd rather not prestige and keep going through level 50 bloodwebs than have to lose out on 20k BP every time. As survivor you can get less than 10k BP a match due to a camping/tunneling killer. I'd be ok with it costing 7k BP - same as Iri node, but any higher is ridiculous when you're forced to prestige.
An idea I'd had in this regard is make the Prestige Cost a choice. You either Prestige for free or pay the toll.
Prestige for free and for that stage of Prestige you get the standard 1-50 Bloodwebs that are generally cheaper and faster to progress through. Pay the toll, and you get all level 50 Bloodwebs for that stage of Prestige, which is slower and more expensive, but offers greater opportunity to farm those Pinks and Purples.
At least that way the Prestige Toll (a) is entirely the player's choice one way or the other and (b) gives you something you may actually want for the trouble, as the other main issue I've seen mentioned for Prestige is how it makes getting certain levels of addon harder.

If you know what I'm referring to, no, it literally didn't do the job it was built for. That money still isn't accounted for and has been written off as 'acceptable covid relief funds'.
Doesn't detract from my point that real life taxes, in general, do more than the prestige cost does. Weird bloat aside, in general, taxes still go towards actual government costs and services, giving them more practical value to the people paying them then this prestige charge does for Dead by Daylight players.

People might be more inclined to pay the prestige tax if it gave something in return (say, one of every add on available on that character) and wasn't a transparent bloodpoint sink.
I object to the term "Prestige Tax" on the grounds it is an insult to actual taxes which, whatever you think of them, actually do serve a function.

With the new reduction in grind when it comes to gaining new perks, the Bloodpoint economy had to be tweaked with regards to where and when they should be spent. While players now need to spend Bloodpoints to prestige, ultimately the grind is still heavily reduced and results in an overall improvement to the entire system.
Adding a charge that previously didn't exist when your stated intention is to reduce the grind doesn't strike anybody in the dev team as contradictory?
This bloodpoint cost, be it 50k or 20k, serves no practical function except as a "money sink" that gives the player no benefit they didn't otherwise or previously get for free.

A link to the new developer Update:
Late last month, we revealed possibly the largest balance patch in Dead by Daylight’s history along with an overhaul to the progression system. We’ve kept an extra close eye on feedback since these updates hit the Public Test Build (PTB) last week. In this special edition of the Developer Update, we’ll be covering all the…relevant section:
"Overcharge now causes a generator’s regression to gradually speed up after you damage a generator, in addition to its existing effects. On the PTB, this was set to grow from 100% speed to 400% speed over the course of 30 seconds. We found this to be a little extreme- especially when paired with Call of Brine- causing generators to quickly lose all their progress. This is particularly noticeable with solo Survivors who aren’t able to communicate that their nearly completed generator is regressing.
For the release, this is being toned down: The generator will start regressing at 75% speed and increase to 200% speed over the course of 30 seconds. If you’re curious, Overcharge becomes faster than the default regression after only 12 seconds. Overcharge can still be combined with Call of Brine to offset the reduced speed."

I’m pretty sure Jolt can remove progress on generators through a block. Pain Resonance actually has the same wording in its description as Jolt so I do know why Jolt and Pain Resonance function differently but … 🤷♂️
If so, it can affect a blocked generator, but the regression won't start until the block ends?

Do u already have P1-50? if this is correct you can put on P3 in the ney system. For each prestige level, you will gain 1 more, so, if you already have killer on P1-50, you will have they on P2-50 in the new system. If you just have they on Level 50, you still on Level 50, just able for P1, off course, you can a lot of perk and gain more prestige levels with it.
P1 will make P2
P2 will make P4
P3 will make P6
and more for each tier level perks.
I have not prestiged anyone at all in any way, shape, or form prior to this point. I made sure all my Killers had at least 70 perk tiers unlocked. That'll get me Prestige 1 to start with, then I should be able to P2 from there. I have a couple with enough tiers to have P2 so I can P3, but I don't have enough time to get everyone that high so I'm not sweating that. All of my Survivors are level 50 so their Teachables will be unlocked at Tier 1 from the get-go, Prestige or not. I may Prestige them on the side, but it won't be a priority since everything's on my main Survivor already. I know from the PTB my main will be P6.
-
I haven't prestiged anyone yet but, if I've played my cards right, I'll have all of my Killers at P1 when the patch hits and, because they're also on level 50 bloodwebs, I'll be able to P2 them immediately, guaranteeing every killer has ever teachable perk at tier 2, minimum
Survivors are less of a priority, as I've got everything on my main, but they're all set level 50 so at least they'll have tier 1 perks all around.
-
I'm reminded of a line in Sword Art Online Abridged, when the characters are being told they're trapped in the game
"Much like the World of Warcraft, none of you are here by choice anymore. Unlike WoW, however, you're being held here by me, not your need to escape your empty (bleep)ing lives."
-
What if the Mist offerings were reworked into something like a less extreme version of Dredge's Nightfall? Maybe something like PTB Nightfall, which was noted as being weaker than the live version.
It would darken/ reduce visibility on maps, but not to the same degree as the Dredge. Maybe color it to reflect the maps, like a dust storm type thing for the Eyerie of Crows rather than make it the Dredge's blackness.

@Nicholas said:
What happens going forward if we have unlocked all Teachables but didn't Prestige someone? Does the game consider it as though you did P3 and auto-credit those T3 perks to new characters going forward, or do we have to P3 everyone to achieve that? Thanks.
Example: Laurie is not Prestige however I have her three Teachables unlocked. After the new update would a new Survivor have her T3 perks unlocked as if Laurie was P3 or will I still need to P3 her to do that?
If you unlocked a teachable but never prestiged a character, those teachables will remain unlocked and given to all characters at level one. Downside is it renders prestige 1 moot, but the perks will at least be available.
Ditto Shrine of Secrets purchases. In fact I think even purchases glue Bloodpoints carry over to because on PTB I saw characters of mine when 2 yellow perks and 1 green unlocked.
Any character that has unlocked 70 tiers worth of perks will be granted P1 at the outset, and every 50 tiers from that (120, 170, etc) is another prestige and its corresponding rewards.
In theory, If you have level a 50 characters and unlock 70 tiers' worth of perks in them, you'll neve perks unlocked at tier 1, be in prestige 1, and ready to upgrade to prestige 2 immediately.
-
I do wonder if Yun-Jin's Self-preservation may see more use in light of Iron Will's nerf since it offers, however temporarily, total silence when active.
-
Related, one thing I've wondered is do the character's base 3 perks count as tiers, given them a +3 by default?
-
I could see it going either way, but think the answer would be no since, far as the game is concerned they don't have teachable perks now.

Ofc they didnt really engaged to that conversation and kept insulting me that I am a camper and have no skill etc.
I dont care about the insult and whining, I just cant get this in my head how ppl like this who obviously dislike camping alot dont do ANYTHING against that or try to play around it. They even feed into this camping playstyle and make it even easier for me to get kills like that.
I tell such people "it's not camping if you give me no reason to leave"

So the plan for perks in the future is to be unlocked one level at a time. Perk levels will now be tied to the characters while ones at the store need to be bought multiple times to level them up.What about the perks players have bought but dont own the characters for . Will they become level one perks or will they be level 3 automatically when the update hits?
My understanding is every character that doesn't already have them gets them at level 1. Anyone who does have the perkb keeps it as-is

I can't follow the logic of "increasing Gen times + lowering survivors' post hit speed boost + giving killers 2 stacks of STBFL and tier 1 Brutal Strength as basekit = killers will become more weaker than they already are"

Side suggestion: Increase their rewards based on role incentives.

I think it'd be a bit weird if you get everything at 9 and then just never get anything again.

Maybe as an alternative you're notified if someone else is running the same perks as you, but not who that someone is.
-
I actually wonder if perks that offer total silence temporarily (besides the obvious Off the Record for separate reasons) might see increased use now that Iron Will doesn't do it completely.
-
That's why I figure the intent behind the Endurance/Haste on unhook is to make Tunneling the less useful play, though he doesn't help with camping unless the survivors can avoid a hook trade.

The patch in PTB makes camping actively stronger though, so I don't think it's going to help much.
Have we explored options like just drawing a 15 meter circle around the hook and not actually letting the killer inside it? You'd have to make sure hooks didn't spawn next to gens or doorways but goddam this is such a massive problem that needed solving years ago.
I was referring to the "killer needs making way stronger," part.
@cyniChris said:
That's what the devs are trying to do - buffing killers so it it feels like less of a necessity to camp (or tunnel), rather than punishing it. The vast majority of killers will do it significantly less (after a bit of adjusting) and only the ones who want to camp (or tunnel) right off the bat will do it.
As for banning, nah. If they start punishing killers, they'll have to punish stuff survivors do as well, and that's a whole other mess nobody wants.
The tricky part with punishing camping is it can, in some situations, be the right move to make. So how do you punish the ones who use it as their only move without catching the ones who use it only occasionally/as needed in the crossfire?
-
@Pyrosorc said:
They played 5 games and got camped on every hook, so they've already uninstalled. I don't think camping hook needs making any weaker - I think killer needs making way stronger, and campers just need actually banning.
The patch in PTB starting today will deal with one of those things.
-
It'll probably vary more by Killer. Thrilling works with Nightmare and Onryô since they can go straight to any unblocked gen, but as noted above is less useful on Killers who can down quickly. They could get more benefit from Infectious Fright. Lethal Pursuer for those Killers who most need early game pressure or otherwise rely on survivor auras. Darkness Revealed for Killers who utilize the lockers, etc. I've always been fond of Spies From the Shadows myself.
-
At this point the most likely reason Ruin remains a Hex is because it's a Hag perk.
Remove the Hex aspect and it deactivating at one kill doesn't seem so bad since it can't be removed before then.
It even brings back a bit of original Ruin's strength of slowing the early game

all my Killers are prestige 0, level 40 ~ 50.
what will happen to all my Tier3 perks that I already have at my Loadout? Will they continue to be Tier 3 perks, or will they become Tier 1?
My understanding is whatever you've unlocked will stay unlocked, so your current perk inventory will remain unchanged. Though without the prestige you may not have the perks automatically available on anyone you didn't already have them on.
From "Transitioning to The New System"
It's also important that you don’t lose anything when the system is updated. You will keep any perks and bloody prestige cosmetics that you’ve already unlocked.

Can you tell us how exactly you'll be calculating the prestige catch up. Like how will you be calculating what level of prestige everyone should be that didn't prestige before the update? Some of my non-prestiged characters have max perks while others have about 50% and it varies the amount of tier 1/2/3 perks on the ones I haven't maxed out. Will the ones maxed out just be p3 with the catch up or will they be a higher prestige? Do you need to be maxed out on a character for them to be p3 in the catch up?
I'm curious about this as well. The update post said it was based on tiers unlocked already, so I'm assuming something like yellow perks = 1 Tier, green perks = 2, purple perks =3.

The general gist I'm getting is Fearmonger, while not the strongest perk, has its place in builds where you want to counter survivor aura reading and/or certain exhaustion perks. That and it can be a solid choice depending on your particular playstyle

The lighting up part of the perk is purely about terror radius, a cloaked Wraith does not have a terror radius.
Question: Does this mean the only way to know if the Killer has LOS is through the increased action speed? If so does that mean there is no indicator for a Survivor not currently engaged in an action?
-
On paper, new Dead Hard doesn't bother me too much as it boils down to the change I personally advocated: You get the extra distance if, and only if, you take the hit.
As noted, you can buy yourself at least a second if you use it tactically, and I'm not sure how problematic that will be in practice.
The main thing is the worst of the "press E to outplay" is gone. If you use Dead Hard at the right time and either take a hit that would down you or make the Killer hesitate in a crucial moment, that seems like an actual, legit outplay.
You can say it rewards bad play or covers for mistakes, but some perks do have that effect (Technician, Bite the Bullet, Corrective Action, Unrelenting, and some Killer addons line the Nurse's wooden rocking horse)
-
I like the idea myself. If nothing else when looking at custom perk icons I've wondered if there are any that color code or otherwise indicate which perks do what (Color A for exhaustion, Color B for aura perks, etc)
