@HavelmomDaS1 Thank you for offering your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to think about potential solutions to keep survivors interested. What do you think would motivate survivors if you were offering a reward?

You mean to tell me ya'll wondering why people leave from the game and from the number of surveys that you put out you still don't know the reason? That's sad.

Actually it sounds like they want to give the OP a chance to expand on their post and provide some examples as to what they think could help as a member of this community.

In the future it may be best to hold such snide remarks until giving the conversation at large some thought.

Don't tell me how i should comment on a post.

Seriously man. Nobody is going to take you seriously if you keep up with those rebellious teenager responses.

    @Giddawid
Don't need to offer rewards. The problem is, matches are unfun for solo survivors because of the ranking system. Survivors reach rank 1 and don't do gens, can't counter nurse, rush for the hook to get points for pip and general bad gameplay which results in them losing.

The ranking system is terribly flawed. Also there is boosting from swf and rank hacking. You need to make the ranking system focused more % wise around how both survivors and killers perform in a chase.
Think about it. You got games where a survivor can run the killer for 5 gens, yet he doesn't pip to advance in ranks and face killers his own skill level which cannot be run for 5 gens. You also got games where killers cannot catch anyone but because of NOED, they kill several survivors at end game and advance in ranks to face even harder matches. It doesn't make any sense. Ranking shouldn't be about sacrifing, hooking, repairing gens, healing, it should be about skill and the only thing that requires skill in this game is the chase.

Simply put, the goal should be to put the survivors that are best at losing the killer versus the killers that are best at catching survivors, which the current system is not doing.

Solo/SWF is not the issue as much as it is unfun to be camped/tunneled from the start of the game. Who wants to be someone else's beating post without so much as a reach-around? Seriously, I get that some feel tunneling/camping is a strategy, and it may work against bad survivors, but there is a much larger portion of the camping/tunneling group that does it to grief other players. Just watch their streams.

  • @Wolff_Bringer So very true. I've noticed the number of dodges and it is rediculous. They dodge my wife, son, and I. My wife is legally blind, my son does absolutely nothing but crazy builds (No Mither, Self-Care) as a joke because he likes ot make people laugh. We are the easiest SWF in the world, but the crybabies dodge like crazy.

As I mentioned in another post, I've had over 25 matches as Trapper/Pig this week and almost all were against SWF. Only 1 was a hit-squad type and I got two of them. Was fun.

  • Great example - Just played a game with my wife (who is legally blind). We enter the match, Doc starts chasing my wife, 20-30 seconds later, he downs her. Tunnels her down every time she gets off the hook, she dies with less than 1k. She wanted to DC, but I told her to not give the azzhat the satisfaction. After the match (2 of us got out, he tunneled one other the same way), he talks smack about his two kills. Just being salty, and wanting to upset other players, but would be the first one to cry about DC's.

Seriously, the game sucks for people who want to have fun, but are the unlucky ones to go down first while facing a camper/tunneler. That is a big reason they DC. Make it worth it to them, and they will stop. Honestly, after hearing this guy talk, he gets off on ruining people's matches. He does not care about rank/bp. Just wants to bully other people in the game. Which is worse? DC, or bully?

Ok, my wife is already done wanting to play tonight, so off to play killer. :)

@HavelmomDaS1 Thank you for offering your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to think about potential solutions to keep survivors interested. What do you think would motivate survivors if you were offering a reward?

BP is the biggest driver I've seen. If a survivor gets tunneled/camped right from the start, they likely DC due to the fact that they are not getting much of any BP for that match, and it is faster to start a new match. If there was a way to award BP to the tunneled/camped survivor for all the accomplishments of the group while on the hook/in threat radius, that might deter DC.

There should be a max/min on it. If a survivor dies due to camp/tunnel with less than 4k, they get bp awards based on what was accomplished while they were hooked. Gen done, healing completed, totem destroyed, etc. Those things might not have been done if the camping/tunneling did not take place. Give the poor guy something!

  • Other than the top SWFs, and a few toxic depip SWF's, most SWF's get wrekt. I stopped caring some time ago, and found that I hardly notice the difference until I get a rare group that is hyper-organized. Sometimes I get wrekt, sometimes I get a 3-4k. Either way, the next match is never another SWF hit squad.

If the game is so unfun due to all the massive SWF hit-squads, find another game. That will teach the devs a lesson....I doubt it is that bad though.

  • Make this happen! This is a great idea. Similar to some MMO's out there that have a creation mode (EQ2) where players design potential items in the game and some are then sold on the game store for use in game. Instead of items/selling, it is a place where either serious changes, or complete chaos/fun can take place.

I'd add an option to join random lobbies of KYF for those who don't have enough friends who play DbD, but would love to see what a 2v10 match of chaos would be like.

  • Legion = Suicide on first hook. I do all I can first, but I despise Legion games. Absolutely bore-fests.

If 2 people DC and the killer is trying to face camp, hard camp, or slug....I'll consider a DC. Rather hit the next game. Honestly, if you don't have the skill to win a 2v1 with 5 gens to go without camping/slugging, you don't belong playing killer.

EDIT - Apparently Escape Cakes attract Legion. Wife asks me to play survivor, so I do and its the first time since last even that I run a cake....Legion. ARGH! Run a second one....LEGION! KILL ME NOW! I had to play two full matches against the boring creature. "Oooh, gen - Crap! Mend.....ok....totem? CRAP! Mend.....Ge...nm, Mend."

Honestly, I ran 12 killer matches today (Snow Day form work!) and not a one DC. Maybe it is play style?

  • No. Would break the game. You wan't no heartbeat, scratch-mirror Meyers, Wraith or Pig

  • I have my own made up rules.

If I face Legion, I do all I can to help the team, but when I get hooked, I suicide on hook. Because Legion is so freaking boring to play against, I just want to get to the next match. M1 Mend......Ok, DOH! M1 Mend...Ok, where's the....M1 Mend....PLEASE KILL ME! That is Legion's real power, makes you beg for death!

  • Meyer's add-ons are either a joke, or extremely powerful. No in between.

  • Killers rank much faster than survivors, but survivors don't require much either. Emlbem system is a joke, rank means nothing. There are tons of smurfs right now in the rank 15-20 area. Players with way more skill than their rank. You'll see them.

  • Limited options - Survivors can either loop, try to duck/hide, or ...well...that's about it. They can also pallet stun, flashlight blind, etc. Either toxic, or loop.

Killers, well, they kill. This game desperately needs new game modes, but the developers are too busy putting out killers nobody likes, like Legion.

  • Wow. I can't get over how many of the players on this forum are so entitled to what they see as theirs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the hatch. We are not entitled to 4k. If they do two gens and that is it and the 4th gets the hatch, I lose zero sleep over it. I'd rather that than some drawn out hide and seek. If players have zero hope other than the gates, we will have far less survivors and no game to play.

Get over your entitled mentality already.

  • Yeah, tell me about it. Not to mention having them spawn next to each other.

  • They need to stop consuming offerings when you never actually make it to the game. Should require you to be in game for 60 seconds before you lose the offering.

  • Clown is highly dependent on specific perk builds. You go outside the box, you get a very light killer.

  • Not sure how they can tell exactly how someone is DC'ing on purpose during loading or just their own glitchy game locking up.

  • I noticed that it often depends on the killer I run. Trapper rarely gets a suicide on hook or dc, unless they keep triggering the traps.

When I do play survivor, I know Legion is suicide on hook. I'll achieve all I can for the team, but have zero interest in playing a mend simulation for the next 10 minutes. Tunneling wraith is the same thing. Too many better options for fun games. It has nothing to do with death or survival, it is about quality of gameplay. Got downed first by LF in a match last week, he surprisingly was not a camper. Had a fun match, but ultimately died. Did not care, it was a blast. That is the goal.

  • Those saying that Nea +5% is OP are not paying attention. He did not say to add it to run speed, he said to add it to walking speed. Run speed would not change. Last I checked, nobody loops while walking around. 5% to walking speed is in no way having a negative impact on the killer.

  • Survivor is even worse. It is one of the reasons I dispise playing survivor. Killer bp is much better.

  • What would be better is if they used an algorythm to see which perks you used more often and increased the chance of those perks showing up in your bloodweb. I hate spending bp on crap perks I will never use.

  • Nope, not at all. Makes your statement no less shallow than the first. Seriously, that is the problem in this whole community. I play both killer and survivor, mostly killer, but get tired of hearing the crying of both sides. (And I'm referring to the final line in your post.)

And yes, with most people with I get matched are p3 claudette.. but that's not my fault... I just want to play and they dodge.. I think it's time to play on swf and change character at 6 seconds

Yeah if you last second swapped on me I'm alt-tabbing before the countdown finishes. Not gonna let anyone get away with that bullshit

Seriously, don't ever come crying about anyone DC'ing, or gen rushing, etc. You want an easy game, and that is all there is to it. I played 27 killer matches this past week and 6 survivor matches. I dodged zero, faced roughly 25 swf's of 2 or more. Got dodged easily a dozen times.

If you load up toolboxes, I load up franklin's. Easy fix.

    Camping is not toxic.

It's the Killer securing a kill. A kill is an objective.

It's not the nicest and most interesting playstyle one can do but then again camping in CS or PUBG is also not the nicest and most interesting thing to do, yet people are mature enough to find a way to deal with it instead of crying out loud.

It's only in DbD where people refuse to adapt and instead rather request Mommys help.

    It's Toxic.
    Pathetic.
    Cheap.
    Rotten.

    Stop defending camping.

Do you feel the same about looping?

If not, anything you say about camping is irrelevant

Yes, I think looping is a rediculous mechanic. It is easily abused and can discourage new players as well.

We don't need an easy mode, but we do need alternatives to these bad game mechanics. We can't get solutions as long as we are only concerned about our own wants.

  • The problem is there are not enough people to split the game into two modes. The game has a lot of room for toxicity on both ends (survivors, by nature outnumber killers). Unfortunately,  these boards have too many immature, toxic players who overly favor one side or the other.

Either the devs make a legit effort to clean up the game, or the game will fade due to a lack of new players.

  • And that is pretty much par for the course. Sad, but true. You are too stubborn in your assumptions to see what is being done.

That, and several other issues, are why this game can't seem to grow its player base. Toxicity is built into the game.

It's not horse crap. No one cares how bad you feel in your failure. You can stomp your feet, cry a river, throw tantrums, use pejoratives, demand compassion, all of which fall upon deaf ears.
This is the internet and more specifically a competitive gaming environment. People wish to destroy you in game, watch you suffer and laugh at you afterwards.
It is true that no one is perfect and all will be caught at some point, but that doesn't entitle you to a pleasant experience in failure.
So you have to deal with it and make having that occur as little as possible your goal.

Dude, I play Trapper more than anything. I don't get camped...kinda hard as the killer. Stop being so one-sided and think of the health of the game as a whole. Hard to get new players in when they are camped and tunneled from the start, mostly by smurfs.

    This community...wow.

Sure it sucks for the person being camped, but they don't matter. They should have did more to not be that person hooked. Pejoratives and rhetoric designed to make a killer feel guilty is pointless. No one cares. Feel free to do so in my game, i'll be sure and throw you a ;) and immediately close the game down to leave you to choke on your grief with no cathartic release.

I get camping when the gates are triggered/open, or if survivors are swarming the hook. That makes total sense. This whole thing about "...securing your kill.." screams you can't hunt down another in a decent amount of time. I love playing several killers, but I can't, for the life of me, sit there and camp a hook. It is boring, it is fruitless, and I'd rather try to get another hooked before that one is off. That means 3 people off of gens.

Camping is not a legit strategy, it is a griefing style of play. Admit it, and move on. It is not bannable, but it is a crappy play style. Nobody enjoys being camped. Nobody can avoid getting hooked all the time, so you can't blame the survivor. It is just a broken style of gameplay. I can't bring myself to do it. It is so boring.

Oh well. It is what it is.

It's not hard to get at all. People want to win and camping is one of the better ways to slow the game down and help do so. It has the potential to bring 1-3 other survivors off the gens to help with the save.

Camping is a legit strategy, it is not griefing, and you have no idea of what you are talking about.

You do not, versus competent survivors, have time to down and hook 4 survivors 3 times each. You can claim anything you want to but everyone knows the truth. The only players you can allow unhooks at will and still win are versus the completely inept.

You're a survivor players making untrue assertions about what is feasible in killer play to make a case for your hate for guarding a down.

Instead of demanding killers get better at downing survivors how about you get better at not getting caught? Can't? Too bad.

Learn to lose with grace instead. Whingeing about being camped is not graceful.

Just admit most survivors are failures less they be killers instead and move on.

This is so completely wrong. Camping the first hook is the dumbest strategy there is. It completely requires dumb survivors to work. It is not the best way to ensure a win, it is the best way to ensure a loss, unless you are constantly deranking to camp rank 16 players that don't know better.

As for my play, I have played both, unlike many who side one or the other. I hate playing survivor because it is a boring M1 simulator. I play Trapper mostly, with a smattering of Pig, Hag, Shape, and Clown. All are lvl 50, but only Trapper is P3 because I figured out that P3 was an absolute joke. Instead, I got all the perks on Pig and Trapper and am close to all the perks on Shape and Clown. I'm considering buying Doctor...not sure why. But I thought he might be fun. EDIT - I quickly learned that killer was more fun and made the bp grind 100% less frustrating. The amount of bp gained by the killer far outweighs that of the survivor. Why play M1 simulator and grind when I can have fun and get tons of bp?

The problem is that no camper wants to admit that camping is a low-skilled way to take advantage of dumb survivors who try to rescue the camped hook. That is why they always fail against smart survivors who know better and just hammer out gens in a boring match and move on, hoping to get a decent killer in the next one.

Again, camping sucks. It is absolutely foolish to camp the first hook and is mostly done out of a want to grief. Camping the hook while the gates are activated is the complete opposite. It secures that last kill and is almost foolish to not do. That is where the entire camping argument gets lost. One works, the other is just dumb.

Scanned OP couldn’t see first hook being mentioned... think you over epiphanied first hook a bit too much there to prove a point never made

I was elaborating. Camping in itself does not suck, nor is it toxic. Camping the first hook, is toxic and one of the reasons there is so much grief.

  • Unfortunately, rank really has nothing to do with skill in this game, does it? Sad, really sad.

Still, camping is just one of the many griefer styles of play the developers worked into the game. They definentely did not brainstorm much before putting in some of this stuff.

  • @brokedownpalace said:
If you place it so survivors can get by and you can't walk around that's your own fault. It's really not difficult.

When you place it dead center in a pallet drop and they can weave by it, there is nothing more you can do. Seen it happen several times. They can also deadhard over it.

  • What makes it worse is when you trap a pallet center mass and a survivor weaves through it. Then you have to go around it. Or, they deadhard through it and you have to go around. The Trapper's traps are the only power that truly hinders the user to a large degree at times. It is annoying, That said, the Trapper is still a lot of fun.

Easy Fix - If in a chase, the Trapper steps over his trap (not window traps). Boom, done.

  • No. Those things are so annoying. lol

  • I am aware of the "hanging around" issue. I find it annoying sometimes, but usually can chase them out. That, or I go afk in a corner till they leave. They do need to do something to force a survivor out once the game is clearly over, or just have the entity kill them, denying them their escape.

I'm all for creative ideas. Survivors need to have an optional objective that awards really good bp. That would help the gen speed issue and make playing survivor a bit better for the bp grind. Simple fixes really, but BHVR seems slow on the uptake when it comes to that.

  • I'd like to see a perk "macro" button for killer, at least. That way, I can save a perk build and just click the macro button to load it. So, when I'm watching an swf load in, and at 7 seconds they suddenly load up flashlights and toolboxes, I can click a button and have my "Protect the Gens" build loaded up.

Even as survivor it would be nice. I can save a build that I enjoy playing to goof off. (My wife is the only reason I play survivor anymore) so I run my Toys For Tots build. I hit all the chests, and bring whatever I find to a random player. Just gave a purple key and toolbox away last night. So, if I see everyone loads up items, that build is useless, I can click a totem hunter build, or whatever with one click.

True but you can snipe from a much further distance and if you're running M&A along with that game over.

I suck at running huntress - not sure why, but the hatchets annoy me. They are clunky. That said, I ran survivor with my wife last night against a very impressive huntress. He sat on the hill pegging us at either exit as we tried to get gates. He was sickly accurate from long distances all game. I don't run DH or DS, so I had to zigzag, but too many others were total Ricon Stark'ing it and ran straight. Was a bloodbath. I had to comment on those sick skills after the match. He never used M1 all match. 3k'ed with all hatchets. Was fun.

  • As killer, I might participate a bit, but when I play survivor, I'll be skipping the event activities as a whole.

You guys are overestimating how many killers are willing to give up all their BP just to spite someone.

Ummm, I ran into a face camping LF last week who face camped the first hook. He got 6k bp for the match. Ran into him again on Sunday night, he did it again. This time he got only 5k. So - no, there are some really dumb people playing this game who only want to grief someone else.

Just like the flashlight warrior that harasses me from the start of the match. He is loaded with every perk he can that gives him second chances and cares not about the points he gets, he just wants to get in my way. That is why I ignore him. I love knowing there is an idiot not doing gens while I'm chasing another person not doing gens! It is like he sacrificed himself. Then he gets the hatch and brags....I got 40k+ for killing your friends, thanks bud. See you next game!

  • I fear many don't understand what dedicated servers are going to do to the killer community. Right now, we host games and the game is based on our internet speed. So we may notice a few people "skipping" about due to lag, but the survivors are being yanked all over the field. When dedicated servers kick in, that won't work anymore. We will suffer our own lag, but the survivors won't as long as their connection is good.

I played 2 survivor games with my wife last night. The Trapper (I love facing my own killer!) was on a really bad net speed. I ran from the gas station to the bus, then got yanked back to the gas station where I was right next to the killer. #########! Then I start working a gen and BAM, I'm back by the killer shack where I left from 10 seconds ago. It was impossible to try to loop this killer due to lag. I kept getting yanked all over. He was a good player, but his lag made the game impossible. We talked afterwards (in a polite conversation, no toxicity) and he stated that his internet is not very good. This guy is going to HATE dedicated servers. His lag will be too bad to even consider playing killer.

Keep that in mind people. Get your net speeds worked out before dedicated servers. It will no longer work in your favor, it will be paralyzing as killers.

  • I did not know endgame needed an answer. Gates get powered, I monitor gates. Kill any survivors near them, or run them out. Game ends. Trap exits, listen for the snap and they are either caught or working on the gate. Simple.

  • Ummm...I'd:
    1. Stack some of the trash laying around by the wall and climb over that silly "fence"...so long suckers!
    2. I'd remind David and Tapp that they are trained in hand-to-hand combat, grab anything laying around and clobber the tar out of 90% of the killers - Barring: Spirit, Nurse, LF, Trapper, and Billy. The rest would get busted up. (Seriously, David could take Pig out easily)
    3. And the truth here - I'd convince Billy and Trapper to figh to the death, take their traps and chainsaw and start hunting survivors!

  • So, right now there is roughly a 30% survival rate, and in order to get the bonus points, you have to survive?! Yeah, my wife can kiss my arse, I'll be focused on killer during this. (If I'm wrong, so be it...)

If you load up a group with prove thyself, toolboxes, and addons and team up 3 on every gen (can't get four on every gen), then take it off and do it again, there is roughly a 33 second difference for the entire map.

I've seen gens done in 30 seconds before Prove Thyself ever got changed. I've seen 3 gens pop just over a minute or so in the game as Trapper as well.

If 4 people are on one gen for the whole map, the killer is failing horribly.

Yeah the killer should have just applied map pressure and patrolled the gens, just a pitty that they can knock out one in 10 secs

If you think a 10 second gen is the norm, you are way off. Seriously, sit down and do the math on the new changes. The overall time difference is less than a minute. There are so few gens that allow 4 people on them as well. I've already faced 4 SWFs with all of them running PT and I 3k'ed in 1 and 4k'ed the other two. They got the gens done in only one. Not much of a difference than normal. I was running Trapper with brown addons (padded traps in one of them), Ruin, BBQ, NC, and NOED/DH alternately.

    1. Still got 2 kills
    2. Had no perks or addons and still got 2 kills on a gen rush of 4 minutes?! Seriously! That is the story here. You had a good SWF with full goodies rush his gens and he still took out 2 of them without any perks and without any addons.

We are too quick to scream gen rush, but we seem to forget he was running a difficult challenge and still managed to hit the death toll number the developers have said they felt was ideal, 2 kills per match. Perhaps, it shows just how rediculously powerful the nurse is, moresoe than how much gen rush sucks.

  • The way I am understanding things here, there are three groups of people de-ranking.

Group 1 De-ranks to avoid long que times. They are not necessarily wanting to have easier games, nor are they trying to troll lower-ranked people. They just want to play games, period. Right now que times are not overly bad, but recently we have seen some very bad que times in all ranks, not alone red ranks. The fix for this is not easy. It requires more people to play survivor on a steady basis. The numbers are better now than they were weeks ago, but it would be nice to increase the survivor player base. I, for one, hate playing survivor anymore for a couple of reasons:
1 - It is pretty boring. So many aspects of the game turn it into an M1 simulator. Camping, Tunneling, and Legion basically turn the game into a "hold M1" game. Who wants to do this on a regular basis?
2 - Killer gets tons more bp. I've run several tests, and even when que times are upwards of 15 minutes, I have made twice as much bp as a killer than I could as a survivor. (Run both as much as possible over an hour and you will see killer far outpaces survivor in bp.) Running killer eases the bp grind significantly. Give survivors a significant boost to bp and I think you make it much more attractive. (Leave out all the "killer does all the work" argument. Do you want a balanced player base or not? No reason whatsoever that survivors should grind three times as much to get the same bp.)

Group 2 De-ranks because they don't like the toxic, serious atmosphere of the red and purple ranks. This is where I sit. I've been there, done that, burned the t-shirt. Getting to rank 1 is not that hard, we all know that. Maintaining red rank is not that hard either. It is not skill as much as time. The red ranks are filled with serious players that tend to be twice as toxic exponentially as the lower ranks. The SWF groups are less toxic and after-game chat is more enjoyable (most of the time) in the 10-16 bracket. If I outclass the survivors, I ease off. Make it fun, have a good time. Who cares if they escape? It is a playstyle choice. It is not something anyone expects all killers to do. It is a want to just play casually for fun. There is no fix for this. The player base is not big enough to split into casual and ranked. It is what it is.

Group 3 De-ranks to get easier games, or pwn lower ranked killers/survivors. This is the toxic group that gives the rest a bad wrap. How do you fix this group without hosing over the other two? This group feeds on the misery of other players. It is where you get your killers who face camp the first hook, or SWF depip squads who teabag their way to de-ranking a killer. There is no fix for sad people like this. The only way to fix it is to enforce a behavior policy, and that is a whole can of worms that BHVR does not likely want to open. Who can blame them?

If anyone does have solutions that will work in a small community game like this (less than 100k people playing regularly), please offer them up. I don't see how punishing casuals, or those who just want a game within a reasonable time, is a solution. It only discourages players and they move one, shrinking the community even more.

  • The biggest boost they could give the Trapper, which would put him solid upper-mid tier is to give him access to more traps on-hand. Having only 1 trap and needing to search around the field to get more is the biggest weakness. I need to establish pressure by setting the field, if I have to traverse the map to get 4 traps set, I'm already facing 3-4 gens done. If I try to chase first, I never get the field set. My best matches are when I carry 1 or more extra traps. I can get 2-4 traps set in the first 60 seconds and start corralling the survivors in that direction.

Seriously, having the trapper grab a trap from the locker is not that bad of an idea. Just have a random unset trap on the map disappear when he does. Does not increase the number of traps, but allows the trapper to pressure the map consistently.

The best trap placement is in areas they can't be disarmed, and survivors travel - The hay stack on the combine, the window ledge on Lampkin lane. If someone trips them and gets out before you can get there, you now have to go way out of the way to retrieve and reset the trap. Much better if I could hit a locker and set it somewhere else. Saves me 40 seconds on a killer whose power can hinder him as much as the survivors half the time. (Survivor dead hards over a trap, I have to go around. Survivor weaves around a trap, I have to go around. 20 seconds retrieving and setting a trap adds up fast for each one!)
