Yeah this was introduced after the PTB.

Its not really detrimental or anything, at least not for me, I quickscope most of the time and call it a day

I was just lying on the ground, the killer was slugging me, all of a sudden I hear the sound and I was so confused. He was just aiming at me from the swamp ship.

Of course Inner Strength is a better healing perk, that is not the discussion. It is about the statement that Selfcare is bad in any way, which is not true.

And I think it was often enough said that you can use it in a bad way, so in all of your scenarios you need to consider. If you prefer to work on a gen than healing, this would probably be a quick down. Surely a stupid idea when you are on death hook.

And a good killer doesn't allow you to heal? Are you saying that on average survivors are not healing? I wouldn't agree to that. Also an argument that has been raised, you need to find good healing spots. You surely don't heal next to a gen (or in the edge of the map) Btw if 32 seconds is too much to heal and the "good" killer would not allow that, you could also say that the good killer doesn't allow you to fix a gen for 32 seconds, applying the Pop in any case. This is a pretty situational assumption. I would again say, it depends. If you are not on death hook and this is a critical gen regarding a 3 gen, yeah, go down. If you are on death hook or the gen is far outside, don't grant the killer the easy down. That throws your team over if this isn't the last gen.

Regarding your Pop scenarios: Let's put Ruin in instead. If I have selfcare I would punch a survivor letting go of that gen to heal me. That would be a loss of 12 charges on the gen. So, again a situational decision, depending on perks.

And in the perk comparison, you again say "wasted time healing yourself". Again, mentioned several times, if you get healed by others, it is the others' time you waste as well. Again, especially with Botany, healing yourself is more efficient: it takes you 19 seconds to heal, someone else healing you takes 16 seconds for him and for you, which is 32 seconds of "wasted" time. And again: it is wasted when you don't finish it, otherwise you get it back during the chase. That is resource investment.

Beneath all the situations where you can simply play it bad, there is just to say that Selfcare is not wasting time, it is the survivor wasting time healing at the wrong time or in the wrong place. And the strength of Selfcare is simply that you can heal whenever you need it. No "nothing I can do right now, sorry"

Beneath that, I don't get some of your numbers. Why heal 25 seconds? Why stop in the middle? 20 charges of a gen is 25%, 25 charges is 31%. And how do you get to the 28% regression in 2b? Which 6% in 2c?

Don't do math at 4 am.

  • "lulz just by a headset, easy 4k!"

  • @Deadeye said:

Selfcare is not that bad. It is bad when people die on hook while someone selfcares, sure. But That's not the perk, that's the survivor. That survivor could also just say "nah, I'm injured, can't go for the save. I'll hide until someone heals me". Same result, maybe even worse because the survivor won't be helpful for an even longer time.

Thing is, if you are healed up, you are not "exposed" anymore. If you can extend the chase with that extra hit, it gives other survivors extra time on gens. Yeah, some people say, it HAS to extend the chase 32 seconds because you wasted that time on healing. Actually 11 seconds is enough because 3 people could work on gens in that time, meaning 33 seconds gen progress. And there was a video for comparing clown gas differences. Without any perks or powers or addons to end the chase quicker or close distance faster, you need 26 seconds to catch up to a survivor you hit, if the survivor just runs in a straight line. I'd say that's worth it. It is just not worth it if you run against killers like Legion for example, that can easily keep multiple survivors injured. Because then you never get out of the healing mode.

Btw, one survivor healing himself with Selfcare takes 32 seconds. One survivor healing another survivor takes 16 seconds, while 2 people are busy with it. 16*2 = 32. Same amount of "lost" time. When you go to someone on a gen and let him heal you, it would be actually more efficient to use selfcare, because when you join him, you both get slowdown on the gen. Better let yourself don't do the gen for 32 seconds while the other one can work with 100% efficiency, than having 0% efficiency for 16 seconds and then 170% . You get less progress after 32 seconds.

The only really valuable thing over Selfcare is, when you team up to heal. 2 people healing someone takes 8 seconds, times 3 for 3 people being busy is 24 seconds.

With Self-Care you're in a much higher risk of being downed again. 32 seconds is a lot to go to a healed state.

Let's look up each scenario, considering that the gen isn't nearly done:

    a) You waste 25 seconds healing yourself and the survivor fixes a gen within the same 25 seconds. One person fixes a gen at 1 one charge per second, meaning the gen gets 25 charges. (a gen has 80 charges, 25 charges - 20% of a gen)

    b) You (injured) and your teammate do a gen together for 25 seconds. Two people fix a gen by 1,7 charge per second, meaning that a gen gains 42,5 charges within this time period (that's nearly 53% of a gen)

    c) The survivor heals you up (16 seconds) and you have a gen fixed by nearly 9 seconds. Considering the same repairing speed, that means that a gen gains 15,3 charges (nearly 19% of a gen)

Now, let's say a killer with PGTW approaches you. Pop decreases the overall progress by 25% and a killer doesn't allow you to heal yourself when you're injured, so if you were healing yourself, you have to stop and run. Let's look up the result of each scenario in this case:

    a) You need to heal yourself for another 7 seconds and a good killer won't really allow you do that, you need to move. A gen fully looses its progress. If a killer catches you, your overall 2 people progress goes to 0! Simply the worst case scenario.

    b) The gen saves 28% of its progression (53% - 25% = 28%). But you may go down, this one is surely better than the previous one.

    c) You may juke a killer for a much greater time because you're healed. The gen goes down but not much time was wasted on it anyways.

I don't know about you but I would certainly avoid A at all cost. Risks are too high and the reward probably doesn't worth it.

One thing for sure, Inner Strength is a much better healing perk, but I agree that it sometimes relies on luck. But I'm pretty sure that you'll find a totem or a locker by just going from one gen to another without wasting that much of extra time. Instead of wasting 32 seconds with solely Self-Care, you waste nearly 26 seconds with Inner Strength (include the time you cleanse a totem, enter and exit a locker).

All in all, the only worthy things you choose from to heal up by yourself are Self-Care+Botany:

    • 2 perks!
    • 5 additional seconds to self healing which can be affected by other perks
    • You heal others faster and save 4 seconds if there aren't any slow-down perks (that kinda pays off the additional time you waste healing yourself)
    • Your aura is visible (Say hi to BBQ and Nurse's)
    • You have to waste 19 seconds during one period of time (Inner Strength allows you to separate 16 seconds you cleanse a totem and 10 seconds you actually heal up)
    • Infinite amount of usages (usually helps when killers try to deal mass damage)

    And Inner Strength:

    • 1 perk!!
    • 16 seconds to activate the perk, but 6 seconds less time to actually heal yourself up
    • Stable result (isn't affected by any slow-down perk)
    • No aura-reading (only one threat - Iron Maiden, don't think that Rancor, Infectious Fright do that much to this perk)
    • Higher chances of getting rid of NOED
    • Still a bit RNG based (locker and totem placements, plus, your teammates may cleanse totems you need to heal up)
    • Only a few uses (but most of the times you need to heal up 2-3 times)

I don't know about you, but the fact that Inner Strength takes up only one perk slot surely makes it worth equipping. You have 3 super meta perks: Dead Hard (prolongs chases), Borrowed Time (prolongs the time your teammates live) and Decisive Strike (prolongs the time you live). I'm not sure which one you can replace with Botany, because the amount of time these perks give you during a match is incomparable.

(PS: sorry for mistakes, it's kinda late in my region.)

My opinion: Just remove all chat options, especially the post game chat. I just leave the game ASAP or hide it, because the majority of times, survivors get pretty toxic and i don't want to bother my mood with it.

I know solo players don't really communicate before the match but sometimes I need to ask for items/perks/offerings/certain actions. Removing the pre-game chat isn't good, however, I think it's ?okay? to remove the post-game chat. But some discussions there clear some things up, so I'm not sure about this one.

It's actually a substantial difference, but I personally don't care either way I just wanted to point it out. I hate the use of it, but I'm also not thin skinned enough to cry about every single thing like a lot of people are.

That's not being thick-skinned, that's being thick-skulled. ❤️ Noone is whining here, I just pointed out that it's wrong to say things like that. There's a difference between ignoring the problem and silently taking care of it. I just made a comment that the game must have the feature to report beforehand, the screenshot is here to prove my point.

It's $7 every three months. I mean, I'm not trying to judge or anything, I'm just saying that the shard cost for a piece of content is super, super out of whack compared to just straight-up paying a small dollar value for it, in terms of the time spent earning each currency.

I mean, bring BBQ&Chili with Pudding as a killer and it takes a few games to get the same amount of bloodpoints. It takes decades to farm 2000 iridescent shards and less than a half of an hour to get 150000 bloodpoints. Plus, you have archives and dailies. I just don't get how 150000 BP is a fair trade to 2000 IS.

  • @Rydog said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1324246#Comment_1324246

I have never wasted Iridescents on a cosmetic item. My time is way more valuable than that, and I would rather spend a trivial $5 on something than a bunch of shards that it took 15 times as long to earn.

You can save them for free DLCs...

  • He's okay gameplay wise but I find his abilities boring during a chase. They look rather okay outside of a chase but they aren't really anything special. Slowing down puddles, WOOOOW.

Ok but then if you start prestiging people after youve done everything else, you wasted a mother truck ton of bps as soon as you click that prestige button.

The way i do it is i worked my way through p3 with trapper. When he was at p3 50, i took half my bps from a game and dumped them into trapper, the other half i saved. Rinse and repeat till i had a million saved up. Then i would dump that million into another character im prestiging. That way trapper slowly gains perks, i replenish his add ons and im p3ing other characters. Of course this was after I 40'd everyone.

I also save my iri shards up to 8000, when i got that i go to the shrine of secrets for an extra 650k.

I highly recommend p3ing freddy or doc first. Once youve got them p3 and all the perks for them, you can play them without add ons and still do well, so its literally all being saved for the character your p3ing. You dont have to, if you want to play someone else do so, you just have to spend bps replenishing add ons.

I know that wasting bloodpoints on perks after lvl 50 without prestiging looks psychopathic enough.

But wasting iridescent shards on bloodpoints? So much rare currency for some bloodpoints???

    I-... I just...

  • Tbh, I'd bring it to kill my obsession during EGC if it worked after closing the hatch. It would make things more cinematic.

Okay, I think it's much easier but still hurts your team a lot. Bring a key. That's it. When a killer hooks you, go to the second state, get unhooked and go immersed. Escape through the hatch then.

  • Okay, update, I got it. But I got it because, again, the killer was bad and my teammates were good at looping him at one spot, I just hopped into a locker with Q&Q (thx god I got it in the bloodweb). The challenge feels like it's more about my teammates, I just hide nearby while my team loops the hell out of a killer. It's not really a good design but it would be interesting for SWF, I guess.

  • @vaal said:

Ahaha, git gut! Done it on second try. Just try Urban Evasion and offering for sneaky map like Lary's or Yamaoka. Yes, it would mean being useless for other team but... you want this trial :D

Yeah, let me just bring Urban... OH WAIT, I don't main Dwight, I need to grind for it. Yay.

  • @Seanzu said:

But their aim is to P3 + All Perks, most people aren't P3ing a character to never touch it again.

I just find it really strange that people try to get all perks without P3ing. Like, c'mon. P3 takes, like, 20% of the whole time.

  • Firstly, bringing her yellow/green add-ons on clearly solo survivors is a total waste, save them for SWF and streamer parties.

Secondly, noticed how I said that you don't need strong add-ons against solo? That's because solo was usually bad but now it's just a pure nightmare. I hope you do realize that at the moment solo survivors are so bad that most red rank survivors actually belong to yellow ranks.

Thirdly, while I do agree that, on the one hand, her skillfloor is low because any casual player can pick her up and be good against other casual players, her overall skillcap, on the other hand, has much potential. You will change your opinion on her when you'll find survivors who are actually good at evading your attacks and rush these gens like there's no tomorrow. Yes, you may say it's pure gambling but you can say when you got just unlucky and when you clearly messed up. And, trust me, you will feel that some survivors will outplay you because you're actually bad as the Spirit.

Fourthly, Stridor is only good because it helps against survivors with Iron Will, which is a popular perk. Otherwise, it messes up with your calculations of distances for attacks, so it's something you need to use carefully. I don't like how people say that Stridor destroys any counterplay against Rin. It destroys your chances of simply getting away from her, but you chances of lasting longer in chases actually increase because:

    A) If you have Iron Will, your sounds are still at reduced volume.

    B) If you don't have Iron Will, most Spirits won't be able to down you immediately during phasing because it's unclear if you're far or close. (Your footsteps can be only heard when you're close to a killer. It's too risky to simply follow your moan noices to hear your footsteps because it's unclear if you're near or closed. So by the time you stop phasing, you may realize, that a survivor got far away but you heard them as if they were close.)

Pyramid head has a big shinny helmet

Hag has no eyeba- oh wait....Hags don't blind =)

I mean, the Nurse overall suffers from lightburns. Plus, plastic bags and fiber aren't really good protections against strong beams of light.

I think Demo cannonically doesn't like light. So it's technically makes sense why he suffers from it.

Wait, are you sure the Hag doesn't have eyeballs? Aren't they just tiny and black??

  • Ugh, I want people who say that the Nurse is SO strong play as her for a long period of time against viable red ranks.

  • @Nos37 said:

That's because it's based off of a fictional video game character and not an actor.

When they got the rights to use Halloween's, Nightmare on Elm Street's, and Saw's killers it did not include the actor's likeness, so they had to use a different face for the main protagonist (Survivor).

That's why Nancy and Steve look so spot on; the devs were allowed to use the actor's likeness.

It's not about that. People from DBD dev team who design character faces make them look as inhuman as possible most of the time. Recent Zarina's face looks like she's both at her 20s when you pull her from a locker and at her 40s when you just look at her from afar.

Laurie's, Quentin's, Tapp's faces are a whole new story. I think they made them ugly on purpose, I have no other explanation here.

  • Pyramid head music is simply the best one, it sounds more complicated than others and it's far less repetitive. Each tring in it sounds different while also remaining similar. It's chaotic and rhythmic at the same time. Plus, it actually gives you a feeling of a good chase. It feels like it doesn't revolve only around a killer. Like, the Doc's theme or the Deathslinger's theme feel better from the killer POV. The Executioner's one, however, feels equally right for the survivor side as well. Instead of feeling that you just run against a specific killer you get a feeling that you dodge the killer, that you're in the active role of a chase, you're not just a mere pray. Idk, maybe that's just me. I can feel like other themes tried to give the the same effects, the Oni's one is the closest one in this case, but Pyramid Head's one has done it far better.

  • @Iceman said:

So here's the counters I could think of in about 2 minutes whilst writing this:

Soul guard gives 8 seconds of endurance. If you're fine waiting 15 seconds for borrowed time, 8 seconds is .5 second over half of that.

Play plague. FTP doesn't work if they're injured.

Say they go for this combo, then the broken one dead hards away. They've used their exhaustion perk and are probably in a bad position if the first guy was downed there. Chase them.

Use STBFL (a perk that helps all killers bar the Nurse). This lets you recover 40% faster at max stacks, meaning you can hit them again.

Alternatively, use perks like sloppy and thana- they must be healed to use FTP and if you're slowing their healing as much as possible (without that clown perk because it's awful) then they aren't doing gens for a long time to pull off a combo that should, at most, waste about 10 seconds of time (think- if they werent there waiting, that would be 3 gens popping not 2).

"Say they go for this combo, then the broken one dead hards away. They've used their exhaustion perk and are probably in a bad position if the first guy was downed there. Chase them". I guess if the position IS bad for them, this solution is the best one.

"Alternatively, use perks like sloppy and thana- they must be healed to use FTP and if you're slowing their healing as much as possible (without that clown perk because it's awful) then they aren't doing gens for a long time to pull off a combo that should, at most, waste about 10 seconds of time (think- if they werent there waiting, that would be 3 gens popping not 2)". Yeah, I like it as well. It's not like counter-counter but still makes it more time worth to pull off.
