I'm not a fan of how close the doors are to gens and the hatchet is overkill. But I also think that if they change/remove those mechanics, everyone will drop him.

By the way, if you didn't know, if the cheater will kill you quickly, you will also receive a go next penalty, turn it off immediately, this system should not exist at all!
It's funny because I've never heard of the prevention affecting who it's supposed to affect. First go was affecting players learning the game or playing stealth, while this wave only affects players that are getting killed by hackers.

Requiring constant every-single-day engagement is exploitative design. I played DbD plenty enough already, but demanding I play every day like it's a job is repulsive and only pushes me away from the game. "Just play the game every day for the next three months" is not reasonable or respectful.
That's the issue. They're marketing the game to adults primarily, not teens or kids, which means that naturally we have less free time. The tomes should be easily completed without having to grind too hard. But at the same time I'm sure the mindset is that if you don't have the time and you're working you can just buy it out (as if that's reasonable).
On the flip side, the tome does drive engagement but that goes back to the age old problem with DBD—that the grind is considered the main point of the game.

Meanwhile I get freddy map like every other game. They need to bring map offerings back or make every map separate offering so there is at least that 20% chance to get map you want/need. Now there is like 1% chance when garden of joy, freddy map and other variants are tied to just single offering...
The new system would probably be better in a game with less maps overall. As is, it's just not worth it.
-
My biggest gripe is that if they're going to associate challenges and new chapters with new maps, the offerings should have more of an impact. But if they're not going to have any impact at all, then they shouldn't be in the web. It's a waste of time either way.
-
I've only gotten it once and thankfully it was against a Ghostface that just wanted to kill the two Survivors that DCed and let me and the other one go. Was lucky enough to get to the building gen first. These map challenges are all down to luck for the most part. I agree the map is incredibly rare though. I've still only gotten Freddy's once too.

Breadcrumbed is a nice way of putting it. Whilst I don't share the opinion the game has been in long-term decline, it's got a pattern of failing when it reaches a new peak.
There's one thing which bothers me though: it's been said they "don't care", which I can't get behind because it's their biggest source of income. Ending DBD may end the company. Yet if that is so, why would they take such risks and be dismissive of advice? I get why they may not listen to balance suggestions because some have been terrible by the community. But something like dealing with DDoS and actively ignoring advice on dealing with it with such a simple suggestion as "fill the spectator lobby" isn't clever in the slightest.
They operate in a different realm than we do. They do care a lot about the game because it's likely their primary source of income and the company relies on it. But they don't care to be told what to do. That's the hubris I was talking about. When we give suggestions on how to improve the game, I think it registers as "where you do you get off telling us what to do". I could be wrong of course, but that's how it's felt.
-
I assume people think it triggers Abandon faster but it doesn't. That's the only thing I can think of.

I don't know…
Jack Krauser could be decent (although he'd also do a very good Legion skin, even if it would be wasted potential).
While Deborah isn't popular enough to justify a full Killer, she could make a popular (although not necessarily for the actual quality of the skin) skin for Hag or Spirit.
I honestly believe the Tyrant from RE1 could have potential as a full Killer.
Lady D and Mother Miranda (potential Plague skins also, although they are by far the ones I think are the least likely).
There's still some potential, but the best ones have already been used, I agree.
RE9 will probably change some of that. It'll give more pull for an Ethan/Rose duo.

Ultimately, I don't think there's a way to get a perk that requires you to go into the basement and stay there for 60 seconds, after which you lose either a hookstate or a permanent health state, to work. The investment required to prime this perk demands a pay-off that has to be agonising the killer, which would make it terrible for both sides.
The cost needs to come down, and so does the benefit. For example, instead of 60 seconds and perma-broken for 10 charges off all gens, how about 30 seconds and broken until hooked for a single-use BNP effect?
I was going to say something like this. Genuinely kudos to OP for trying to improve upon the idea, but it's like playing musical chairs. The Invocation mechanic has to change entirely for it to be both viable and attractive.
I like your idea, but I also wonder if even that would make it more attractive. I'd almost want to change it so that being on the Invocation does something like map-wide Prove Thyself or something along those lines.
-
Personally I'd rather they just create a perk shop instead. Like 1mil BP = one perk from any Killer/Survivor. Great BP sink too. It'd cut into profits though so I never see it happening, but it'd be a much better, more player-friendly system than the Shrine where you can spend years just trying to get all 3 perks for one character.

Nothing is going change as long as people keep playing the game and spending $ on it. Despite the recent PR disasters, people are not leaving the game in large numbers and the player count is still near all-time highs. Not saying they are right or wrong, but apparently most people aren’t that upset about all this. 🤷♂️
That's not an entirely fair thing to level against the community. I'm sure we do have whales, but the bulk of the sales I'm willing to bet come from big crossovers. Any big boycott can be easily overturned with Resident Evil pt. 3. The turnover rate is just too high.

But most of those attempts were made after they got backlash from the community. Then after a while it went back to the way it was before.
For like the last 3-4 years BHV always gave off the vibes of " we know better than you". We know better what should count as wins, we know better which perks are bugged and problematic, we know better which killer bugs need fixing and which dont, we know that you better pay us money for a killer that we then nerf into the ground and promise a rework in like 2 years, we know better how to treat our biggest and nicest content creator that tried everything in his power to save our stream but we know better how to fix it, we know better....
At least it helped me decide to take a very long break from DBD since the game is just a pool of negativity, cheaters, bugs and empty promises at this point.
I think it's always been that way to be honest. However the game has fatigued much faster in the last three years than it did in its first six, which only exacerbates the problems.

From their perspective, why would BHVR do anything differently? Despite the recent PR blunders and years of what I consider very poor relations with the community, the player count is near all-time highs which probably also means revenue being near all-time highs. They’re not going to change anything unless people start leaving the game in large numbers and that hasn’t happened yet.
It would have to take bleeding licenses and not retaining new ones. I don't think anything else would cause it.

as a Friday refugee, I'm still sad that game died. I was really hoping TCM would survive just to at least keep dbd in check even though that game did not interest me
In my opinion, DBD is one of the weaker in the bunch, only surpassed by VHS. I played Killer Klowns quite a bit and that game was really well done from my experience. Evil Dead, TCM, and Ft13 all seemed pretty decent as well. DBD shouldn't be in a league of its own, but I'm pretty certain I know why it is—the asymmetrical horror genre is just not that good. It's one of those things that seems great on paper, but game balance is just as difficult to maintain as player expectations. Ultimately you're trying to make a PVE game into a PVP one. The only thing that truly makes DBD stand out are the licenses. Had the Halloween chapter never happened, DBD likely would not have survived the wheels of fate. Especially if we're comparing it to games like Deathgarden and Meet Your Maker. We see the lull in activity between licensed chapters and the uptick in player count whenever we get a big one. Ultimately if the genre was that good, we'd have a lot more competition than we do. But I don't think it is.

It's about how they act which matters now. I may be wrong, but that tweet was the first time they have gone out and said the failings were entirely their fault, rather than before when they either turned a blind eye (the DDoS attacks a few years back, which they said they found no evidence) or ignored entirely. For that - and probably against the flow - I am appreciative they have taken full responsibility.
However, what they need to do now is actively change this culture of not listening. When things are going well, they have made a pattern of becoming too complacent. An example was after the period from Ghost Face to Silent Hill, when there was a drop in quality afterwards, especially with the Twins and such. Likewise, the first RE release was full of problems.
They need to take a stronger, proactive stance against cheaters and attacks. They need to put more focus on PTB's and how people respond, and they also need to get back to quality. I would be far happier if they were transparent and put chapters back a month or so if it needed further time to fix.
Basically, I feel they had done well recently and the game was having a good run. I don't get why they lost the passion and care in their work recently. Is it because they have become slothful and lazy with success? Have they had too much pressure from the heads of the company to push out chapters regardless? Has an arrogance developed? Are they under some other pressure? Whichever, it's what they do now.
Being totally frank, the issue is that we often get breadcrumbed. Countless times over the years, they have listened but it never seems to stick. We'll get one really decent patch and it's sort of like all is forgiven, even if it was preceded by a string of bad patches and followed by just as many.
In my opinion, the game has been declining for quite a while now and I think everyone can feel it. It doesn't mean the game is dying as it can stay alive indefinitely as long as it has a steady flow of licensed content, but it does mean that the game is a one-trick pony and the novelty wore off a while ago. We're seeing a bit more behind the curtain now and these small gestures are often too little, too late. They're the kinds of things they should have been doing years ago, but hubris got in the way of that (again, in my opinion). Now the problems are much bigger and harder to ignore and there's very little solid foundation in place to withstand them after years of neglect.

They wouldn't, but if we as a community can actually push them to take action before they dig themselves in a bigger hole maybe we can actually see change.
We just got 2 REALLY big licenses, FNaF being the most anticipated license in the games history which had a rough launch and TWD is almost on par with Resident Evil. The next licensed chapter in November is set to have 2 new Survivors and a new killer, which is usually reserved for big ones.
If this next one also has a rough launch, you gotta remember we wont be getting another killer for another 6 months. That's 6 months of leaving a sour taste in our mouth in addition to killers who still need to be looked at.
Logically it makes absolute sense, I agree. But you have to consider the history here. How far the game has declined over time and what it's taken for real changes to take place and what those changes have looked like.
-
They would never do that. The money flow is too high up on the list, whether they could comfortably take the hit or not.

Exactly. I argued with someone in another thread about this.
They showed a video of a survivor getting an escape with this perk "to deliberate how op it is and needs nerfed immediately".
And they completely refused to acknowledge that, not only did that escape require a build of exactly 4 perks they ran to pull off (UB, conv, tenacity, and soul guard), but it also took about a dozen other factors to align to pull off.
They built for specifically, exactly, and only, one specific scenario (which wasn't gen rushing, or even chase, wasn't "toxic" or "bully") and probably finally got it to work after who knows how many games.
At this point, people are just upset that survivor perks might actually do something, eventually.
That's the part that always goes neglected—the setup. Without the right setup, the perk only extends a chase MAX 30 seconds or allows a team to recover from a 4-man slug. Anything else boils down to meme things like potentially preventing an unhook or stunning the Killer. For an escape, it requires the trial to have effectively ended and the gates to be open like you said. That's not even getting into balancing that has made the endgame favor Killer by default.
This perk, even with this build, demands such a specific scenario for escape that the Survivor should get value out of it. It doesn't promise anything at all, let alone an escape, but it does give hope. And that hope is consistently what is being optimized out of the game.
-
They're trying to encourage better scores, but they've also made it so that side objectives are too risky to pull off most of the time. It's why only 2 of the 6 new perks are popular because they offer an advantage in chase. They'll continue making chest persk though and they'll continue to go unused unless they change the scoring events altogether.
-
@francesinhalover said:

that requires 3 perks to even work if not 4.
And it still ends in a down regardless. That's the part I don't get at all after all the back and forth. The perk has a price tag on it.

Lately I've been playing Trapper again. I just fart around, clear my challenges, and let everyone go.

Kaneki is very good at tunneling…
You could say PH is better if nearby, but Kaneki can return to hook from basically anywhere on the map and then easily force Mending on survivor, which disables OTR and DH.That's very true. But it doesn't feel much different than most other Killers in that regard. The end result is the same unfortunately.
-
My rotation isn't so bad, it's the static nature of the trials I hate. It's extremely rare that a Killer doesn't camp hook, tunnel, and go on a slugging spree. The Surrender feature is getting a lot of mileage in my trials. Sometimes it happens early, sometimes it happens late, but usually it happens at some point and usually heavily tilts the trial in their favor. I will say I'm encountering more friendly Killers (maybe 1 in every 8 or 10 trials), but being given an escape doesn't exactly grant a great deal of autonomy.
-
To be totally honest, I don't really think he makes that much of a difference in the majority of trials. He is unfun and makes chases feel pretty pointless unless you know how to punish him, but Kaneki players tend to make really bad plays and he overall doesn't camp/tunnel/slug better or worse than most of the roster. If he's nerfed into oblivion or stays the same, the quality of trials will be unchanged (at least from my perspective).

The Ghostface release, yeah. I imagine it being built in such an accessible engine doesn't help either.
-
Realistically, I think they'll keep trying to fix the game but they'll never fully commit. More emphasis on Survivor things that end up weak and nerfed while not much change for Killer. Maybe they'll try to strike a balance, but it'll never fully happen because they'll keep overdoing or underdoing it.
It sounds the same as the past 3 years on the surface, but there will be a bit more of a Survivor slant. It won't be as Killer-oriented, but that doesn't mean it'll be 50/50.

The devs do play the game (pubs included) and they do have experienced players as advisors. To me, it's more likely that the entity or entities overseeing what gets greenlit for any given patch is the wrench in that system. It's easier to direct our upset and frustration toward influencers and community managers and I think BHVR is aware of that. Not trying to fly too close to the sun there, but I'm just saying.
-
The system is never gonna work. Players give up all the time and aren't hit with it. It only seems to be popping off when players are dealing with extreme instances of tunneling and cheating where they aren't at fault, but the system still flags them with bias.

IMO one of the main reasons why Cheaters are not getting reported is because you need to do so much to actually report them. You need to have a way to record your game, you have to grab all information you can, you have to open a Support Ticket, you have to upload the recording on Youtube and then link to it in the Support Ticket. And on top of all of that you have to make sure that you report them ingame.
So lots of work and I can understand that people dont really bother with that. I am not bothering with it anymore after I reported a clear cheater. They had Wallhacks (perfectly mirroring the Killer despite not seeing any red stain), Speedhacks (while the Killer was a Deathslinger and therefore only 110% Speed, he should have still catched up after a while in chase) and then ran straight to the Hatch when it opened. The person I reported did not get banned for months, so since then, I dont bother. If they make it as inconvenient as possible to report Cheaters, I will not go out of my way of doing that. I report them ingame, this takes me a few seconds and thats it.
IMO they need to have a replay-system. It might even be enough to only save the last 5 replays or even the last game played so that people then can upload parts of it to Youtube and dont have to deal with their own software to record. Or simply upload the whole replay-file (which might only be a few KB big) to the Support Ticket.
To be fair, they can't even keep track of what you have in your inventory and what you purchased from the in-game store. Or at least I've never seen any evidence of it. Anti-go next and the crow rework also exposed how little they can even track what happens during the trial itself.
At this point, for BHVR to track anything beyond what's shown on the results screen, they'd likely have to recode the entire game from the ground up. Which won't happen, but I'm in favor of it all the same.
-
I'm not interested in getting into the details of your ban, but I will say that the forums here are the most laid back these days (barring Twitter, because at most you'll get blocked). The Steam discussions have always been over moderated as far as I'm aware. I've seen some familiar faces on the subreddit too and that is also heavily moderated (it's unofficial so I'm not making any claims here, just saying that it seems odd to me). For me, it's one thing to get involved when there's something major going down. It's another when banter or opinions are moderated so heavily, especially when it's more in line with pointed criticism and nothing close to harassment.

This game has a lot of anti-tunneling stuff for survivors, that all revolve around unhooking a survivor or being unhooked… but we're supposed to believe fog vials were designed to be anti-tunnel, even though they have absolutely nothing to do with hooks? We're supposed to believe that an item that can be used while the killer has 0 hooks, is intentionally designed to be a counter to tunneling?
None of this is believable.
I wouldn't call it anti-tunnel, but it clearly was designed with being a mini catchup for Survivor in mind. In my opinion that is. Slow down Killer just enough that maybe you can escape a chase or pick up a downed Survivor and reset easier.

What doesn't help of course is, like most things in DBD, dashes nullify the effect.
Using vials against say a Myers or Pig on an indoor map almost feels like cheating. You just throw a semi decent pallet that they have to break then vanish into the ether. Often even if they spot you, they often don't follow you perfectly and lose way more distance than they normally would. Quick and Quiet especially opens up some really good options to bamboozle the killer and make vials a lot more solid.
However... many of the things you can use to make vials good... just don't work when you're playing against something like Blight or Hillbilly who can easily stick to you through the smoke, and of course if you're injured they are preyty much useless, so characters like Ghoulare off the table. At least they aren't bad against Nurse... you can actually try to do things against her...
If they revert the opacity again, they wouldn't be a slouch against the fast killers either, and could actually mess up a Nurse pretty hard... so we can dream 😅
Yeah, they were totally pointless against Ghoul when I tried. I already knew that though and was just doing it for fun. 😝 It just feels lame to have something new and shiny become not so new and shiny so quickly.

"The former is a lie based on your sentiments about DS and the endgame. The latter is one-sided."
If you cannot accept that DS giving a free escape was a bad thing then just peak delusion.
"Now, not that I think you care, but the ideal situation would be a stronger endgame for both sides (instead of shutting off everything for one and not the other to encourage consolation kills) or conversely a weaker one where everything is shut off for everybody. Likewise, to combat dodging before the trial since we've made it impossible to do during the trial, the wise choice moving forward would be to rework the lobby screen so that you're locked in and can't abandon. Maybe even lock in your builds so you can't change them around. Personally, I think that would be frustrating for many, but it would be fair."
First if you want end game perks adrenaline and hope are far more fair that old DS was as the killer still has a chance and was not free so there is stuff for both sides for an easier endgame.
But the match has not started yet why would you lock someone in? Locking in perks and items in lobby that sounds like a miserable idea and if you want right now you can switch last second to the build you want to trick the killer if you wanted to. The whole point of a pregame lobby is to make final adjustments to your build, to lock people in is just insane why even have a pre-game lobby then?
To fix your problem with killers dodging lobby's you want to make the game miserable for an issue so small is just insanity.
Call it what you want, but at the end of the day it boils down to whether you consider tunneling in the endgame "real" tunneling or not. We already know that BHVR does not.
So, in a 1v1 scenario: is it "free" for the Killer to camp/tunnel a player during the endgame with very little resistance and no comeback strong enough to go toe-to-toe with them? Or is it "free" for the Survivor to save the single use anti-tunnel perk for the instance where they are being tunneled to be able to escape through the gate or hatch (that was already open) that their opponent was dragging them away from?
My answer is that neither are free but one is less fair than the other. Personally I miss when the endgame was everything but the kitchen sink. It's when everyone pulls out the stops. The idea of shutting perks and mechanics off runs counter to that. So the more the merrier, as long as it's on both sides.
Again, call it what you want. But Killer doesn't lobby dodge for any different reason than Survivor went next. Going next is no longer part of the game, to the point where they were willing to ban players for it. So I think logically the next step would involve removing the ability to lobby dodge or change loadouts. At the very least, it doesn't ban anyone.
We can play this game of inconsistency where we need to change things that affect one side more than the other, but that's what it is at the end of the day. Either we look at this from a fair approach or we don't.
-
Honestly it's hard for me to blame other players, despite how frustrating it is, because the game encourages that play style. If camping/tunneling/slugging on Killers with bloated kits wasn't the norm, then I wouldn't spend so much time dealing with it. The game itself has to change long before the players will.

It wasn't like that with the old system. We all started at 20 and settled into our level. But people started complaining that tryhards were found at levels below 5, and that it was difficult to reach level 1 and maintain that number and have fun in games, and that it also took a long time to find a match. Well, what did they expect? That was precisely the idea: to make it difficult to reach level 1. And those of us who played for fun might not have made it past the level 15, but that didn't matter; we usually had fun matches, and most ended in a tie. But hey, they listened to the tryhards... That's why they created "MMR" and the new system, so you could get into matches faster. They were supposed to make you join people of your level, but unfortunately, they mix you with anyone (it's very noticeable in the skill and time the players have in game).
I was completely against this system from the beginning, but well... now everyone complain that all the public games feel like tournaments. Well yeah, now everyone wants to be tryhard. DBD became LOL And unfortunately, it's noticeable in the community outside of the game. There used to be conflict, it's true, but not with the same intensity as now. I watch funny DBD videos for fun, and now they're always commented on by angry people because of "those toxic survivors/killers." It's a laughable video, and they take it personally. Incredible and ridiculous.I really dislike MMR, but it's hard for me to really tell which system was worse. With grades, I remember getting matched with Iri 1 Nurses on more then one occasion back when I was only like rank 13 (along with the odd rank 20 that was way out of their element).

I feel robbed every time when I don’t get that hit/vault
Don’t really mad because I’m pretty sure opposite side was robbed as well in some moments
I feel like we're all used to it by now when we really shouldn't be at all. I swear sometimes they match me on the moon. 😣

I only use them if there's enough time for me to open a chest. The density being changed is a very notable difference and honestly the vials weren't incredibly useful before the nerf either. They were more of a mini-catchup for Survivor, whereas now they're more of a party favor.

They are still usable, but they are now in a camp of difficult to get value from reliably. They can be clutch, I did have a Vial I found in a chest work well for me on a couple of occasions... but of course there was also the one time it didn't work that got me killed.
Fundamental problem of course is they work better with survivors with dark clothes in dark maps and/or lots of corners as well, whereas before they were generally useful on everyone in majority of maps...
This is why I don't think reducing the opacity effect was the way to go. Vials being strong evens their usage out across the board... just give it a limited number of charges and the item is fine. If I can bait/burn that resource as a killer then it's all good... the issue with unlimited charges is I basically always have to commit to the chase for it ever to be worth it, and it often isn't on an m1 killer, where 1 misstep can leave me in no man's land with a minimum 15s catch up time.
This raises a good point that the Vials might've fared better in the older days of DBD when there was stronger emphasis on chase and baiting out bad plays. Instant gratification means that things like this have to go, even if theoretically they're fine.

It does? When did I say it didn't?
Sometimes it's difficult for people to remember that the side they play against isn't a collective hivemind. I wouldn't take it personally.

Games are extremely annoying now due to the bugs.
I did hit through pallets - survivors screams, animation of the hit, but nothing happens. They themselves complain on bluetooth hits from my side, while I see how they teleport off the spot after being down.
U don’t miss skillchecks on survivor - but game decides different. And this painful on both sides. After they updated engine optimisation went so bad, so I keep facing with minor delays every match :/
Also, do u also notice that sometimes after quitting dbd u get weird message from unreal about errors?I'm willing to bet most of that are the servers. Almost every trial has really strange lag and gets unpredictable.
