  • For what it's worth, nobody starts the game hating it. It's a fatigue that takes time to set in and most people quit before they really get too deep into that.

  • We hear you, but let's add a mechanic that penalizes you for getting tunneled too quickly instead. 😵

  • I'm very hesitant of the word "free" with DBD. But if it's enjoyable and isn't making the match unplayable, then I don't see why there can't be more incentives for Survivor to queue up.

  • They changed last iteration to not move as easily. It's really random now as to whether they do or not.

  • He doesn't mention the red dress, but he does say:
やはり どこかのメス犬だったか → So the b*tch came to save the day. (I localized it a bit 😇)

They should have done the prison as a map. Classic WD show during it's prime. But it seems BHVR is dealing with budget and resource issues.

I could be wrong, but I heard that its size was because it was going to spawn on random maps. Anyone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong there (or if that's something we're not supposed to know 😱). Otherwise I think it would've been more likely that we'd have gotten a larger map of either the hospital, the prison, or some amalgamation of the two.

  • I'm going to be honest. I don't like this mechanic because of the two conditional aspects of it. If someone is getting tunneled out, you have to give them a mechanic as beefed up as tunneling itself. When you balance it in the Killer's favor by having it shut off so easily or eliminating its presence in the endgame, you're barely making a dent.

I think you would have to target tunneling specifically in a way that regardless of what stage of the game it is, it is only effective if the Killer is actively trying yet underperforming.

It bums me out that this is even a discussion. On console, things are strict, and the banhammer falls heavy for just about any reason at all. But because things are so bad regardless, so many people have blocked messages from anyone outside their friends lists. More than half my attempts to send friendly messages are met with a privacy settings bounceback. Online gaming is a social thing and it would be nice to socialize without fear of nastiness.

I think the social aspect of gaming has been way too influenced by unrealistic expectations. It's mostly populated by young people or people that started when they were young, so you know you're gonna hear an earful. In addition, it's competitive so there's a lot of anger. I think expecting good nature with those conditions is a bit naïve. Not that it doesn't exist, but it isn't the most common. I think overall we'd be better off seeing the humor in the interactions, whether they're positive or not, and learning which battles to fight.

But at the same time, it's hard to argue the benefits of unbridled social interaction when you have to start arguing in favor of slurs and nasty comments. Maybe it's just a terminally online thing for those of us that don't mind.

  • I haven't gotten the chance to play 2v8 yet but was Guide really that problematic? I ran it last time and don't remember it being overpowered. The scaling difficulty wasn't strong enough to make gens fly once Survivors started phasing out, even with Guide. But it did help.

  • It might be interesting to make it so whenever your aura is revealed on either side, you're made aware of it. Even for perks like Kindred. It could end up being a healthy change in this stage of the game.

    tell that to my college.

To be fair, colleges really love to freak out over plagiarism to a bizarre degree. I still remember my friend refusing to take his final during COVID because they wanted him to set up like 4 cameras and install spyware on his PC. Thankfully he still had a passing grade anyway.

It is a very disappointing map in my opinion I didn't even realize it was associated with walking Dead until seeing a single door that says "don't dead open inside" while the reference is appreciated. I think the map could have been better I think they tried to do a mismash of locales from the show in ruin instead of a single location like the prison or something

It's very easy to miss. The only real tell that you have it is the color grading. It has more of a green filter than the other variants. The "main building" itself is only one tile iirc.

The game is provably killer sided unless anyone would like to challenge BHVR on their released stats that say all killers have a greater than 50% aggregated kill rate. (Though doctor got close at 51%) "Oh but to do that killers have to…" - let me stop you right there. The fact that they CAN means they're stronger than survivors. Arguing that they aren't is directly contradicted by the data.

Yeah but don't the handful of super sweaty comp teams outweigh the majority of trials ending at 3 gens? 🤪

  • The Akkads probably won't pull it. They've never seemed all that stingy when it comes to Michael aside from his portrayal.

  • More in favor ≠ totally in favor. It's more balanced than 1v4 overall, which is evident by how common it is to have a toss up in terms of escapes and kills. But with tunneling being more prevalent as time goes on and the addition of Legion, we're seeing players power their way through that one.

I'd go the extra mile and say that I'd still love a Scooby-Doo or Clue collab too. 😎 I'd much prefer that to more anime to be honest.

  • Status effect Killers and high mobility Killers don't seem like a good fit. The former because of what we've already seen with Legion and the latter because it makes it easier to tunnel which continues to be a big problem with 2v8.

What exactly are you arguing? That any bug, of any severity, should be kill switched?

Which means you think fog vials should be kill switched, because they currently have opacity bugs?

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3986393#Comment_3986393

I think this is why BHVR finally said they are going to rework the kill switch criteria, and then actually tell us what the kill switch criteria is. I honestly have no idea what the criteria has been so far.

Fingers crossed. So far my best guess has been that when a bug is interesting enough, they wanna see what it does. Which makes you feel a little like a lab rat when you think about it.

  • I don't think they've ever known what to do with her. She's either been underpowered or overpowered, which to be fair isn't a problem with just her. Most things tend to go in only one of those two directions. But it always sucks the most when it's something we enjoy. I hope they bring her to a place that feels better for you.

You conveniently ignored the fact that BHVR absolutely did not want to kill switch Streetwise, and only did so after that was an absolutely massive amount of complaints from players on both sides of the game.

You’re also ignoring the fact that grace periods should never apply to the kill switch. How exactly would that work? Players would “wait and see” if the game-breaking bug is really a problem?

To be fair, the way they use the kill switch is strange often times. Sometimes they'll hop on it immediately, while other times they'll let a bug slide a patch or two. The issue with green glyphs comes to mind immediately since it was used to gain max value out of Merciless Storm.

  • @MDRSan said:

Not to jinx myself but I haven’t seen any Legions so far in my 2v8 matches - most common have been Weskers for me. I do see how they’d be pretty miserable when paired with a second killer though, especially an Oni.

I was wondering earlier though - are there any reoccurring survivor oriented events? The Halloween one maybe because it gives you more map space? Kind of a meh advantage but it’s the closest I can think of that at least doesn’t give killers something that greatly surpasses it in advantage.

The modifiers are a toss up. The ones that favor Survivor more do seem to go the way of the Dodo faster, but 2v8 at its core has always felt more balanced than the main game to me.

Actual holiday events tend to go back and forth. We'll have one event where Killer gets a ton of mechanics that are unfairly skewed in their direction, while the next event will be a cakewalk for Survivor.

Agreed, and not only is it not that old it's been one of the most requested game modes for years. First two versions were great, Resident Evil added Legion and it was only bearable because Wesker and Nemesis are fun enough, IMO. But after that it's just been downhill quick. I even love Oni, but there was absolutely no thought or care put into adding him to the mode while leaving Legion in it. Like it just seems beyond inexcusable to me at this point. What are they even thinking?

The yellow herb helped with that too. It wasn't a major addition, but its loss was felt the following iteration.

  • You know why.

  • I think 2v8 peaked long ago. It only seems to get worse with each iteration now. Which is crazy because it doesn't feel that old at all.

  • Given the issues, I'm gonna say the servers are cooked.

    I remember RE.

There's only so many new players. The consistent bad press the game gets for banning players for being tunneled, or the constant hacking, or DDOS'ing or the inability for the devs to release a functioning update is definitely hurting them.

I agree. Only time will tell too. But somehow I see them staying afloat for a long time. Now whether it'll be worth playing for anyone that isn't a whale, I'm not so sure about lmao

  • It depends on how bad. High turnover can conceal a lot of that. A lot of people bought into the Resident Evil edition and couldn't play the RPD for the entire duration of the chapter, but it was still a huge success. Walking Dead has been a nightmare, but I'm willing to bet it's performed well enough.

From my experience and observation, Distortion has mostly been used by really selfish players who were only looking out for their “personal escape” and constantly tried to avoid the killer. No teamplay, no cover, no “ 1-2 people on dead hook,I’ll take this chase so the rest of the team is safe.” Sure, the perk itself isn’t to blame, but that’s how a lot of people played it.

You know what I think would be cool? They should make Distortion significantly stronger—but as a team perk. Instead of protecting your own aura, it could protect someone on your team, like the person with the most hook phases, or whoever is currently the most vulnerable. I’d be totally fine with that from a killer perspective too.

Bring the perk back—make it a team perk that protects the member of the group who needs it most.

That's fair. It was an incredibly rare thing for me, but DBD essentially runs on anecdotal evidence.

I think that rework would make it even more dead in the water than it is now. Not that it's a bad idea for a perk, but it's not attractive to players that would want to run Distortion. Just look what happened when they tried that with Wake Up. Plus it's a conflicting message when they reward us individually and punish us for things beyond our control, which seems to encourage being selfish, while changing our perks to promote teamwork.

That's the majority of their credits I notice, for sure.

  • @Zakon05 said:

Speaking as someone who has 100% achievement completion in this game:

Any achievement which requires going to a specific map has immediately become a frontrunner for hardest to get with the map offering rework.

I wouldn't say Don't Open Dead Inside is the hardest, but it did take me weeks and over 30 map offerings to get it. Even then, I had to ask the killer for mercy, because I only got the map twice in all of those matches with map offerings.

I disagree with people saying that Evil Incarnate is the hardest. You can try Evil Incarnate as many times as you want, as long as you keep feeding Michael blood points to get the necessary offerings.

I would say the top two hardest achievements at the moment are Outbreak Breakout, which requires opening the exit gates in RPD and escaping TWENTY TIMES. Followed by Hand-Eye Coordination, which requires you to: A) Get Vecna as your killer, B) Find the Hand or Eye of Vecna, C) Escape with it.

The Vecna one is totally, completely out of your control. You could get lucky and get it without trying, or you could legit never get it if the RNG just never lines up for you.

I'm never getting that Vecna achievement. Outbreak Breakout was one of those ones that was essentially time-locked. I got 3/4 of the way there during the chapter when you kept getting sent to RPD every trial along with help from Wake Up (pre-nerf). Now it's just a dice roll.

    Yeah, idk.

This is their only successful game, you'd think they'd put more time and attention into making it last as long as possible.

because once it's over, they go back to what they were before. A company that does other bigger companies work for them.

I think BHVR is aware that DBD can last indefinitely as an advertisement for other things, so they know they don't have to do anything. But I also I think in their minds they're still doing their best.

  • @tes said:

Still, I just feel they need completely rebuilt their game for technical terms…

I agree. I just see so many problems with BHVR in charge. 😵

  • Remaking the game from scratch is still just as crazy it ever was. Not from the standpoint of the game's health because it is desperately needed, but from the standpoint of revenue and investors. The game is basically stuck between a rock and a hard place forever. I think even if they did offload manpower into developing a new engine, we'd still hit the same wall in the long run.

  • Good timing too with DCs being extra punishing now.

  • I think a shop that has all of the cosmetics, charms, and perks available at all times for different levels of currency would be a good idea. Make it easier to spend real money, encourage the same amount of shards, and give BP as a third option. It's about as good of a currency sink as you can get too. I don't think BHVR needs to be as aggressive as they are with monetization, but it's something that would at least benefit them enough to consider. I'm just not entirely sure they actually would do that, despite how anti-player the rotation/exclusivity system is.

agree that nerf was unnecessary, with lethal pursuer, BBQ chilli, nowhere to hide, friends till the end, so many strong popular aura perks… even if you pick distortion it's gone very quickly, useless perk right now when old one was a viable pick

Definitely. People will still run it, but it's not like Dead Hard where you could do anything to it and it'll still be a top pick.

    @Ohyakno said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3985725#Comment_3985725

That's it. You just named every aura perk that's ran. The other ones are niche or awful. Friends even tells you it's in play.

That still doesn't justify the nerf in my opinion. No perk you bring into the trial is guaranteed to give you value. Additionally, a lot of DBD's mechanics are designed to shut down elements of the game. Like if you bring a heal build to a trial with Plague, Legion, or even Nurse's Calling with the right Killer. Or likewise if you bring a quiet build to a trial against Doctor. Naturally it stands to reason that if you bring an aura build as Killer, someone might be able to counter it.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3985699#Comment_3985699

Kinda funny when you think about it… killer is literally always in a chase by design. People don’t want tunneling, but at the same time some folks want back the old distortion moments where 1–2 survivors without Distortion were guaranteed to have a miserable match. And back then, most people ran Distortion super selfish just to not get found, while the rest of the team got slaughtered. Honestly, that whole design was just super unhealthy

I don't think it was unhealthy for the game. All that it did was negate aura perks the Killer brought in bursts. It had a token then charge system that could run out and at several points during its existence depending on what the Killer ran. When Lethal Pursuer first dropped, it would decimate the perk instantly. Its last iteration pre-nerf was in a good spot where players got value out of it, but it could still run out. Essentially what the nerf meant is that stealth and aura are more important for one side than the other and that's why it's inconsistent.

I don't think the argument of it being unfair for anyone not running Distortion holds a lot of water either. You could make the same arguments for several perks in the game ranging from self-pick up perks to self-healing perks to anti-tunnel perks. The specific goal, in my opinion, was to make stealth less viable and player aura more viable for one side only. It's why Distortion was changed to encourage chase.

  • I think Distortion absolutely deserves to come back. It's a consistency issue if nothing else. We already have a good amount of things in the game that negate items, perks, powers, and game mechanics. Why Distortion needed to take the fall at all makes zero sense. Especially given how common Lethal Pursuer is now that all 4 Survivors spawn together.

  • Left 4 Dead Part 2 would be great as long as I got to be Nick because I always play Nick. 😎 Silent Hill Part 2 would be fun if I got to play Harry, but that could just as easily be a skin. Alex and Eileen would be a dream to have, but Konami would never greenlight that. Halloween Part 2 with an HMH Laurie would be great, but that's a completely separate license. Maybe we could get H20?

It's hard to think of many sequel chapters that couldn't just be Legendary packs.

  • The funniest part is that you literally cannot leave the trial on purpose anymore unless you DC. It's impossible without the Killer interacting with you (unless you can bleed out with Plot Twist—I don't remember). So the wording doesn't even make sense.

Yeah, really not fun to be around. I've only managed to get the Eye a couple of times and they always make sure to screw you over once they notice. We really didn't need another achievement in line with Evil Incarnate, but here we are lol

How do you tell the difference though? Is it only when someone kills someone else that it becomes actionable? Taking perceived hollow threats seriously feels like the best preventative measure imo

Actionable threats take quite a bit. Even if someone knows your information and they threaten to do something, it doesn't instantly qualify as one. There has to be legit evidence that something is going to happen, not just a threat.

If they spook you, you should take them serious. Non-emergency is there to talk you through the process. But my point is moreso that the strong majority of threats online are just threats. Even if they're saying they're going to harm you. Take action when it's necessary, but let them roll off your back otherwise.

I mean, yeah, Spooknjukes will be save over 99% of the time. Most of it are hollow threats, I would agree with that.

But since it only takes 1 lunatic who actually wants to do something IRL to make it a really dangerous situation, this should really not be ignored.

With added context, I agree. If someone is seeking to SWAT, always call non-emergency and let them know what's going on.

  • @ratcoffee said:

For some context, people were emailing Spooknjukes with pictures of dead, mutilated bodies saying they were planning on finding where his daughter went to school, and there were people on public forums discussing where his parents might live in order to SWAT them. There were absolutely people straying into the realm of "showing motive, capability, and premeditation"

That does add context, thank you.

Yes, just so. It feels nice to do it as killer too. I don't care about some silly stats, if someone isn't playing serious then I don't need to either. Those breaks do everyone a world of good. The matches I remember the most are the ones where the barrier came down.

A lot of killer mains seem to think survivirs want to win every match but that's not the case. I just don't want to loose to someone who was terrible became they pulled something dirty. I'm totally fine with losing to people who are fantastic but played fair.

I agree. Even when we do escape sometimes, it's really not fun going against someone playing dirty anyway.

  • Exactly. I make this point constantly, but Survivors really don't care that much about winning. Not just in DBD either. You'll have sweats on either side regardless, but overall Survivors just want to play the game and feel like they participated. With how the game is balanced, a Killer extending mercy really does have a positive impact on the trial. There's no obligation for them to either, so it's extra meaningful when they do.
