Dang you're all in on the bloodpoint gains! I'm surprised you actually use those two perks being beast of prey and distressing. At least lightborn prevents "bullying". Care to explain why you chose those over others?

Myself I typically change my build around alot I haven't found that sweet spot with him like I have clown for example. But right now Ive been using bbq, plaything, monitor, infectious. But I may tweak otz "lore accurate build" and run with lethal pursuer, enduring, forced penance, and bbq....rip fire up it was the weakest perk in the build plus BP gains be important to me. I just think the lore accurate build stuff is a very cool idea.

Beast of Prey, Distressing, and BBQ are all about the Bloodpoints. I may have fun trying out other perks, like Scourge hooks and Deadlock, but I always end up back at my regular build. Before dedicated servers went live, I used Whispers instead of Lightborn. Whispers is such a good perk, but I haven't been able to reliably counter flashlights on dedicated servers so I keep Lightborn on at all times, now, to keep the number of matches that become slug-fests to a minimum.

Plaything and Infectious are good. One thing I enjoyed about Pinhead was trying out Plaything on him and survivors would be totally blind to me walking up behind them. Free grabs!

God tier based fellow nemmy enjoyer, what's the other killers you find enjoyable? Also what do you use on ur nemmy?

I used to have ALOT of anniversary cakes on nemesis. Like 300ish but I'm down to like 50 now. I still have a crap load on pyramid head because when he came out I quickly p3d him during that anniversary and I've always sucked with him so I don't play with him much so those cakes sorta just rot lol

Hello fellow Nemmy player. 😀 I play mostly two killers: Nemesis and Blight. I'm a simple person and I use the same build on everyone: Beast of Prey, Distressing, BBQ, and Lightborn. Well, except right now for this Blood Rush, where I had to replace Beast of Prey with Starstruck because no, no, I'm not going to be denied my hooks. (I know my build is dumb. I play to screw around more than anything. For the longest time I played almost exclusively Tier 1 Myers. No add-ons; I just enjoyed being spooky.) What about you, what's your build?

My PyramidHead has 79 4th Year Anniversary cakes on him. My Ghost Face has 150 3rd Year Anniversary cakes on him. I use Anniversary cakes to get characters to P3, but once I hit P3 I stop using the cakes. They become [completely worthless] collector's items decorating my inventory, which I'm cool with because they're pretty.

I'm not good with PyramidHead, either. He feels too clunky for me. Nemesis's tentacle is the only ranged attack that feels good to me on controller/console.

I had a smiliar amount until I P3'd him. I'm not even bothered that I wasted them. Rather erase them than let a sweat squad benefit from them >.<

Yeah, I got the 111 cakes after P3ing him, so I'm happy about that. I think that angel number is lucky: Nemesis is one of the more enjoyable killers for me.

A lot of times when I'm prestiging characters, I use their personal BP offerings but trash the BPS (I always end up with a few even though I try to avoid them in the Bloodweb). Bad matches feel so much worse when there's a BP offering.

But. But. But... I want to break this never ending circle of hate and toxicity. Somehow. Anyhow. The survivors can see that I brought the party streamers in the pre-match screen, right? So they should take note and play a game were everyone walks home with their pockets overflowing with BP. But oh harsh reality, why you taste like ash?

I've had one match so far during this event where a survivor burned a BPS. (I actually didn't know it at the time, I missed the offering screen.) I always play nice, though, unless the survivors give me a reason not to. So, I double-hooked everyone, and on the fourth survivor's second hook... the other three left him to die for no reason. Well, I wasn't amused, so I killed them all. I got to the end screen and saw that the survivor they let die had burned a BPS.

BPS make things worse, not better. Doesn't matter who burns them. Survivors can't even be decent human beings to each other.

Never bring a party streamer, Akuma. They aren't worth it. Survivor pudding only. Those streamers should rot in your inventory, never to see the light of day. Only in your most desperate moment should you even consider forfeiting your dignity and help the survivor mains as collateral damage to your own greed.

I have 111 Anniversary cakes on my Nemesis. I'll never use a single one.

  • @Sludge said:

it increases player engagement over a longer period of time just like dailies, season passes, rank resets, monthly rewards, timed events and all the other gimmicks online games use

So you can't just hoard BP and disappear, you're "encouraged" to stay engaged and to keep playing.

Not necessarily true. I've lost my interest in every mobile game I've tried because of these sorts of tactics. They get a little of my time and none of my money before I just kind of forget about them.

Because of the grind, I've barely touched Pinhead or Artist. I had to play other killers to earn the Bloodpoints to level them up, and I didn't feel like playing other killers, so I didn't play at all. I have perks unlocked on them, now, but I've just lost all interest in playing them.

Instead of DbD, I'm mostly playing Dying Light and spending my money on their DLCs. There's no artificial grind that prevents me from enjoying their content.

But you have to play and you will play against new perks, or with new perks, so more testing for them.

But I didn't play against the new perks when I played survivor because nobody was playing the new killer. And I didn't play with the new killer's perks because I didn't use the new killer. When I played (which I hardly did, because I didn't want to play the killers I was burned out on so I've barely touched the game since The Artist was released) I played with old killers using very old perks (my loadout is Distressing, Beast of Prey, BBQ, and Lightborn).

So, your statement is the opposite of what I said in my post you're responding to. There's no testing because nobody's using the perks. Not just the killers, either. I can count on my hands the number of times I've seen Jonah since his release.

If I had to use the new characters to level them up, that'd be one thing. But I don't.

Edit: fixed because I misread what you said, sorry.

  • @Dino7281 said:

Not really removed, there is a reason for it.

If there would not be any cap, you would have players with maxed killers / survivors same day it was released. This way you are kinda forced to play DBD to unlock it, which is what they want.

But I agree it should be higher, maybe like 2M would be nice and it would make more sense with new grade rewards.

"you would have players with maxed killers / survivors same day it was released"

If this is why the cap remains, then this is bad reasoning on BHVR's part. I'll play a couple games with a new killer just to see what they're like, and then I'll play other killers who actually have perks to earn BP and unlock stuff on the new killer. After Artist came out, I spent the last couple months not playing her at all while I earned BP to unlock her perks. (Yes, I had a lot banked in the Tomes and what not, probably a million or two BP, but when RNG is a ######### then I'm still left without the perks I want.) Now that I've unlocked the perks I want on her, I don't feel like playing her anymore.

So... yeah. I've noticed I often don't see new killers as much as I used to. A new killer will drop and I'd never know it from my survivor matches, I hardly see the new killer at all.

  • How about we look at this from a "the good of the many vs the good of the one" standpoint?

During peak playtime hours in most regions, killer queues are instant whereas survivor queues are long, meaning there are too many survivors and not enough killers. The game needs one killer to entertain four survivors. If the final survivor doesn't immediately die on hook, that's wasting the killer's time with one survivor (who will most likely still die) when they could already be moving on to a new match with four survivors. That's four survivors sitting in a queue waiting for one survivor to hurry up and die.

Even if a whole bunch of people jump up and say, "Hey, we're cool with longer queue times if it gives us a slim tiny extra chance at escaping," it's unlikely BHVR will do it because players do quit playing over long queue times.

  • This issue still hasn't been fixed. I just played her for a Daily Ritual and used the birds to do a lot of the injuring, and I ended the match with damn near no Brutality.

So, I can't even play her during the event if I want to earn Bloodpoints.

  • In some ways, I hate events. It brings out the worst in players. Every match has hook-breakers in it. On a normal day I don't necessarily see any, but during events, that's all there is. I put on Starstruck to deal with it, and in the match I just finished I watched all four survivors bleed out in a doggy pile because they'd rather break hooks than get saves. Okay, whatever, they knew I had Starstruck and they continued breaking hooks in front of me, so they chose their fate.

I haven't tried playing survivor yet. I'm sure it'll be just as fun, though.

  • I just got Classic Ghostface and Devil Ghostface today. Yay! And I got Blight's Amazon Prime ice cosmetic two days ago.

There’s many roads to take with your message. I can say that my PC account greatly benefited from my experience on PS4. On PS4 I unlocked teachables from advise of friends. On PS4, when I decided to prestige, it was more difficult then it needed to be. From that experience, on PC I prestige one character at a time, targeting characters with the teachables I liked most.

It quickly led to having five, six, seven characters all P3 with the perks I liked most available (since I had so few teachables unlocked initially). Even if on my sixteenth character I wasn’t able to get a nice build while prestiging, I had at least ten that did. That could be used to level up each other and new characters.

You mentioned not having the right perks on Artist. When she came around, I had the right perks on 25 other killers to play around with if I wanted. Then eventually hit level fifty, burned all her puddings and streamers. Prestige. Rinse. Repeat.

On Switch, it's much easier to Prestige characters because I have a lot fewer perks unlocked since I now know better which perks I do and don't use. However, I can't play killer on Switch. Can't. I've tried, I have, but it's just... unplayable. I can mindlessly grind with Blight by running into a wall over and over to get 8k BP per match while I watch a movie. If I try to do anything more than that, I'm just wasting my own time to get a couple thousand more when I could instead be in a new match getting a fresh 8k. I now only put BP into survivors on Switch.

Because PS4 is where I started playing, I unlocked a lot of perks that I was told were good, were necessary for this killer or that killer, which I found through my own experience I didn't like, but by then it was too late. I'm a lot more careful now, but the damage is done. I have to go through a ridiculous number of Bloodwebs to unlock the perks I actually use.

I'm at Devotion 19, I think? On PS4. Maybe beyond that, I can't remember if I reached the 20s. I got Artist, I wanted to play Artist. I was feeling burned out playing the other killers. Once I hit P3 it took hundreds of Bloodwebs to get what I wanted on her. That's a lot of BP when I want to play her and instead I'm having to play the killers I'm burned out on. (I tried playing her, too. She was [still is?] bugged, not earning BP for Brutality when she injured with her birds. That hurts.)

When a player is burned out and wants to play the new thing for a refreshing change, the grind gets in the way. Like I said, now that she has the perks unlocked, I don't want to play at all anymore. I played survivor the other day for a few hours but that's pretty much the only time I've played in the past few weeks other than a couple random daily challenges.

  • @Steel_Eyed said:

I’m on the other end of this topic. My grind is pretty much over. Everyone’s P3. The killers and survivors I enjoy most have all perks unlocked. It really wasn’t that bad to do (often finishing multiple prestige project during events like the one coming up) and I don’t know if this game would retain players interest if everything was just automatically unlocked.

I wanted to play Artist but had to play other killers to unlock the perks I needed, so I ended up playing very little on a weekly basis (not even daily, weekly). There are too many stupid teachables cluttering up the Bloodweb, including her own teachables which take up two perk slots on every Level 50 Bloodweb. By the time I finally got my perks unlocked on Artist, I lost interest in playing her.

The grind does not help keep players interested. At least, not all players.

Thank you for the ticket number, that helps a lot - I will make sure they are aware of the correct information.

Yeah I feel you on the Trapper masks, please rest assured this is on our radar and will be actioned.

(and I can completely understand you looking for confirmation on this, it slipped through on the Patch Notes, but I can assure you that thing things I post where I don't say "my opinion" are official).

Sorry if it seemed like I was saying your reply wasn't official. That wasn't my intent. Your post saying it wasn't a bug was talking about the Meg mask, but I don't think there was ever a response about the Trapper mask, so I couldn't figure out if we were all supposed to have both masks or not. Mainly I was trying to determine if there was an announcement and I just wasn't finding it, something I could link to for proof if I needed to open another ticket. It was really weird that cosmetics were unlocked for everyone practically under a veil of silence, and it only gets weirder when support staff months later aren't even aware of it.

Good to know the Trapper masks haven't been forgotten. Thank you for your response here!

  • @Mandy said:

The Meg mask was unlocked for all users - not a bug.

Can you tell me where you were told this was a bug please and that you were not supposed to receive it? @TragicSolitude

I opened up a report ticket about having not received the Trapper Deathgarden mask and the person who responded and closed the ticket said:

"Upon investigations- We regret to inform you that the Deathgarden's cosmetics have been removed from Steam for now. And It is required for you to have both the Deathgarden and Dead by Daylight in your Steam Library for these cosmetics to be unlocked in the future. Please take note however that we do not disclose on the timeline on when this will be fixed."

    The Request ID was 927451.

I looked around to see if I could find an official statement about the masks but couldn't find anything. There's no announcement, not even a mention in the patch notes, about the Deathgarden cosmetics.

It wasn't unlocked for everyone no, it should be done at a later date.

I hope Trapper's mask gets unlocked for everyone soon. I got it on Switch but not on PS4. It's sort of just disheartening to have anything killer-related locked to the Switch.

Blood Feast was the 3rd Anniversary with Ghostface.

This is how I P3'd him in a day.

I think that was just a regular Blood Hunt. I was around for that. The event had double Bloodpoints plus the gateaus in the Bloodweb.

Yes and no. Face camping can be done without wearing the smart face but that doesn't make it inherently harassment.

To say face camping is harassment and want changes on that basis is just ridiculous. We could say anything in this game that inhibits my sense of participation, and hence fun, could be construed as some sort of targeted harassment. You then have a recipe to ban anything you may find unfun simply because you personally feel harassed by it.

A lot of this game contains elements that might make people feel victimized, targeted or triggered. Its a game where you chase down and kill relatively helpless opponents ala slasher films. Survivors also have a number of mechanics that when working together can also inhibit a killers ability to play as they may want to, hence the term bully squad becoming common use.

Should we then ban anything and everything in game that could be used as a tool to inhibit another player's fun?

Smart face didn't have an impact on the game mechanically but it was a tool for some players to advertise their motivation to harass others.

Even without this element there were some red flags about the bubba faces, in particular smart face, that rode a very fine line and its no real surprise that the more ignorant and malicious among the community would try to use it in that manner. (Its a sad truth and it bums me out too that this ######### is still an issue in 2022).

The problem was smart face... not face camping and BHVR addressed it in the most straightforward way possible just remove the masks and compensate the gamers who'd unlock them with some shards. Its the same as censoring hate speech in the chat. Report abuse if you see it and hopefully if its identified as hate speech people will be appropriately banned.

If you are face camped my advice is hang there and buy as much time as possible for your team to escape. Think of it as your heroic sacrifice in the face of adversity. If the killer stares you in the face nodding at you then take it the same way as people who BM you at the gates, childish crap best ignored.

I didn't say it was inherently harassment. In fact, I said "not all facecampers are doing it to be racist; most are just playing the game."

In that post I said specifically that neither Bubba's Smartface nor facecamping are necessarily being used to harass players. The combination is used to harass. However, only one half of the equation is being removed, and players can still facecamp and harass without the mask. Players can also harass without facecamping by tunneling and slugging. I was not saying facecamping is evil.

I'm used to being facecamped and don't really care much anymore. A lot of times I find it funny. I'll stick it out or I'll suicide and move on, depending on what my team is doing. I was never trying to bring my own feelings on facecamping into the discussion and am actually trying to keep my feelings out of the discussion. What I'm trying to keep the focus on is how facecamping is perceived by those who felt targeted by Smartface Bubbas. Will it still be perceived as harassment without Smartface in the game? (That's just a question, something only time will tell. We'll find out the answer in the coming months.)

"Being facecamped is the part that feels like targeted harassment by preventing participation"

This is kind of it, it seems the argument is, I'm mad about face camping rather than I'm mad about actual harassment.

His argument's not wrong, though. It is the combination of Smartface Bubba and facecamping that has caused an uproar. Facecamping can be done without the Smartface mask and the effect on gameplay is the exact same as if the mask were still there.

Harassment isn't just appearance, it's actions. I doubt a Smartface Bubba standing around on a map doing nothing is seen as harassment the way a facecamping Bubba is.

This whole argument is unnecessary, though. The devs are actually working to remove facecamping from the game and have been working on it for a long time. It's not an easy fix. They even talked about it in one of their most recent dev updates. Removing the masks is easy and can be done right now. My issue with this whole thing is that nothing is being added to replace the masks and we're losing over half of Bubba's non-default masks. I don't like any of the remaining ones, and that sucks for people like me who like wearing the Meg and Dwight masks. If I'm losing those, I want new earnable cosmetics.

Wraith I can see with some of his cosmetics, the Doctor hard for me to tell, is this in the lore cause I dont reed the lore much. I believe you it just wasnt immediately obvious to me.

    The Doctor: https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Herman_Carter

Under his nationality it says "African American."

I was right about The Hag, she is also African American: https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Lisa_Sherwood

In case you were curious, The Wraith is Nigerian: https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Philip_Ojomo

  • @BenSanderson55 said:

Removing the masks won't stop racists from playing the game and targeting people, unfortunately. The blame goes to whoever at BHVR that was too naïve to realize having a black skin face on a white killer would be a bad idea. A better idea is having a black killer imo, because if im remembering all the killers correctly none of them are black .

The Wraith and The Doctor are both definitely black. The Hag might also be black.

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2742174#Comment_2742174

Again. I don't think you do, because you either have never played survivor enough to understand how you can harass people by face-camping them with Leatherface and rendering them unable to participate in the match, or you are just unaware.

The key part is that I am just bringing light to what was done to harass the player, because wearing the mask in and of itself wouldn't have revealed people's motives had they not stated why they did what they did which was target those people AND face-camp them in some instances.

The mere fact that this happened only further confirms what has already been talked on these forums thousands of times, that face-camping is too unbalanced and it only encourages players to use it for harassment purposes.

Hmm... I wanna see if I can break this argument down into its most basic parts, making it as clinical as possible. Correct me if I get it wrong.

The combination of Bubba's Smartface mask and facecamping are used to target and harass minority players. It is not fun to be facecamped as it prevents a player from participating in the match.

Not all people who wear Smartface are acting in a racist manner; most are just wearing the cosmetic because they like it. Also, not all facecampers are doing it to be racist; most are just playing the game. Despite this, Bubba's Smartface mask and only Bubba's Smartface mask is being removed from DbD.

Bubba's Smartface mask has no impact on gameplay. Being facecamped is the part that feels like targeted harassment by preventing participation.

  • The best way to stop racism in the game would be if killers saw all survivors as kind of grey shadows. No skin colors, no genders, no cosmetics, everyone looks the same. Maybe with numbers on them so the killer can tell them apart. Otherwise, indistinguishable from one another.

Boom, problem solved. Get on it, BHVR.

  • Yeah, I'll never use that head. The body's cool, it reminds me of Splinter only with ice, but that head is garbage. The weapon is rather uninspired, but at least it doesn't look silly.

  • PS4 player here. I got hate mail as a survivor... from other survivors. I never got hate mail from a killer.

  • I'd prefer new masks over Auric Cells. I don't like either of Bubba's masks in the shop. We're losing over half of his non-default masks. Two female makeup-wearing masks and his prestige mask, that's not great in terms of options.

Outright losing content with no new content to replace it leaves a hole. Neither Shards nor Auric Cells make up for deleted content.

  • Just a few minutes ago, I had a match where someone disconnected less than 60 seconds in. So, I showed the others I was friendly. Another one disconnected later, with two survivors left. They got it down to one gen remaining, and then they stopped working on gens entirely. I finally found them hanging out together in a corner screwing around. So, I killed them both. They had dragged the match out for a stupidly unnecessary amount of time.

I was just trying to do a chase survivors daily + break pallets challenge. I never intended to kill or even hook anyone.

What do you guys want from me?!?!

  • Right. I gave up trying to farm with survivors years ago. Their idea of farming was hitting me with pallets and then getting pissed if I tried to get a single hook. That scenario was much more common than friendly survivors who understood how to actually farm.

Personally, I don't burn BPS as survivor because I always get tunneled out first, and I don't burn BPS as killer because survivors rush through the gens and avoid me as much as possible. BPS are bad luck.

  • In the case of the Leatherface masks, it's because a lot of people agree with the decision. BHVR isn't going to change their mind, they're not going to keep Smartface in the game. They've gotten a bunch of good press for it, so keeping the mask in would be disastrous.

A bunch of trolls used the mask in a racist manner and ruined it for everyone else.

My problem is that BHVR is removing all four masks and replacing them with nothing. They're allowing a small group of trolls to affect everyone by getting content removed from the game. Leatherface is losing over half of his non-default masks and we're losing the only earnable cosmetics in the game.

Any earnable cosmetics removed should be replaced with new earnable cosmetics. Instead, we're just losing content, and that sucks for all of us normal players while empowering the trolls.

  • They're clunky and I haven't really enjoyed their gameplay. I like dressing up and The Twins have practically no cosmetics. Also, I'm shallow, and Charlotte's face is just... no thanks.

For me, strength doesn't matter. If they don't feel fun to play, I won't play them. BHVR's idea of balancing strengths is to make everything clunky, slow, and hindered by huge cool-downs and stuns. That's not fun in the least and there are a lot of killers I don't play because of that.

  • The more I play, the less it feels like it matters what "side" the game is, anymore. What's it matter which side is stronger when I'm getting survivors who are brand new to the game in one match, I let them escape, and then in the next match I get survivors who are 10x above my own skill level? I couldn't give them an interesting challenging match if I cared enough to try, why did the game put me in their lobby?

This is an asymmetrical game with only five players in every match: it only takes ONE player being worse than the other four to ruin the match. One bad survivors tanks the entire team. If the killer is bad and the survivors are good, the entire match is a waste, the killer might as well go AFK. How do you balance the game for that? Seriously?

  • Sorta.

My build is Lightborn, Beast of Prey, Distressing, and BBQ. The first perk lets me avoid blinds, because blinds are annoying, and the rest of the perks help me earn points faster, because the grind is annoying.

For a while I kept getting survivors who would body block the hook basically every match, so during that time I ran Starstruck because I was annoyed at being denied points (I think it was during an event with special hooks or something, it was worse than just the normal kind of body blocking).

  • I have to go AFK a lot against unskilled survivors because my choice is either keep playing and dragging the match out even after I've maxed my points, or leave them alone so they get the gens done. I'm not going to kill them, but why should I extend a match that's already gone on for over 15 minutes to be 30+ minutes just to avoid AFKing? That sounds stupid and miserable.

Or if my aim is off, I start throwing hatchets at trees as Huntress trying to practice my aim. Right now, I'm loading into matches for the exclusive purpose of practicing chainsawing through tiles as Bubba. Since I'm not technically AFK in those scenarios, is it okay? Because I'm still not interacting with the survivors whatsoever, but there's no "practice" mode in DbD where I can do this without loading into matches.

  • If I'm not having fun in a match, I go AFK. I've never been banned for it. I've had survivors disconnect, though, and I thank them generously for the lovely free BP (in my head, because I'm on console with messages disabled).

  • Yes. Usually because the survivor screws up somehow.

One time I specifically remember, I was doing a challenge to kill a survivor during the EGC. I purposefully got everyone on death hook as Spirit but didn't kill anyone. I guess the flashlighting Claudette thought she was hot stuff, and she (uninjured) ran in circles and what not in the exit gate. She became bolder and bolder, running father from the gate, as I didn't go over to hit her out. Well, I phased over, downed her ass with NOED (surprise!), and then popped her on a hook.

I'm on console with messages turned off, so whatever her reaction was I never got to see it.

  • Whenever I load into RPD and I find the killer AFK somewhere, I'm not even surprised. I'm actually more surprised when the killer bothers to try.

and some killer's like freddy have no cosmetics besides prestige, or michael that only has a different body and some different weapons.

We get it is sad but atleast we get something back, they could've just removed it and given nothing back since you earn them for free after all.

We get shards, which can't be used to buy anything for Leatherface.

And other killers having worse options doesn't make it better. That means other characters in the game are worse off and need more love.

Leatherface had the unique feature of unlockable cosmetics. It's something we should've seen more of. Instead, now no one in the game has unlockable cosmetics like that. That sucks, an entire feature gone.

It's not "sad," it's a bad way of handling this. Taking away in-game content without replacing it with new content is bad. It was also bad to lose Hawkins Lab without getting a new map.

Leatherface still has cosmetics and a couple of reskinned faces that were free going away isn't hurting the fanbase

    "a couple"

Four, to be exact. Leatherface has seven masks right now, including his prestige (but not including his default). He's about to lose four masks, leaving him with three non-default heads: his prestige and two female masks with hair and makeup. That sucks in terms of choices.

So, we're losing over half of his non-default mask choices with nothing new to replace them.

  • @Dr_Loomis said:

Imagine if the masks were kept in and the Claudette one was replaced with say Nea.

Then all the usual darlings would start jumping up and down, screaming discrimination.

    "Literally shaking".

Wouldn't it be truly lore accurate though since in the movies only non-racial-minority teens seem to be dumb enough to stray into Bubba's yard? Claudette's just too smart to get turned into part of his wardrobe.

Another regular survivor face would probably be pretty boring, though. The devs could replace Claudette's (and Jake's?) mask with a patchwork mask, no skin color singled out. Maybe give it a pair of glasses, too (the glasses weren't originally my idea, but damn I really wanna see Bubba with glasses, now).

  • Or change Claudette's mask to be a patchwork face consisting of multiple survivors. Or replace all four masks with patchwork faces.

But just removing all four masks, deleting a cool unique feature that was exclusive to Bubba? That sucks.

Edit: You know, it would be pretty funny to see Bubba with glasses. The more I picture it the more I want it lol.

It's a cosmetic in a game...there are many others that we can enjoy! It really is not a big deal. I promise this is the last thing I will say about it! lol

"there are many others that we can enjoy!"

Bubba is the only character with the unique feature of having four unlockable cosmetics. All four cosmetics are being removed and no new ones are taking their place. There are no other unlockable cosmetics to earn and enjoy.

  • @SunsetSherbet said:

This is what rubs me wrong about removing the cosmetics. Those are the only non-default cosmetics for Bubba that you can get besides the prestige, which is just the default but bloody. Now, if you want a unique mask, you have to buy cells for money from behavior to buy a new mask. Your compensation is shards that you conveniently cannot use to buy any Bubba cosmetics. It makes me feel like at least half the reason they did this was because it had the side effect of likely earning them money by making some Bubba players just go spend money now.

The compensation should have either been 400 cells for a new mask, or how about just making a new unique mask as the unlockable? Maybe some mask that's in the movies. Then there's still an unlockable and people still can get a free mask.

BHVR should have added at least one new unlockable cosmetic for removing these four. They are removing content and no new content is taking its place. Having less content in the game sucks.

Bubba had a nifty unique feature and it's just being removed entirely. There are no masks to unlock via gameplay now. None.

Shards for each mask unlocked (c'mon, we're not getting Auric Cells) + new unlockables, then it wouldn't feel so much like the trolls won.

  • I agree. Thank you, devs! I am so glad the voice lines are back. I really missed those when they didn't go live, and it's great that not only are we getting those lines we're getting even more lines and they're voiced by Doug Bradley! That's more than any of us hoped for, especially this long after Pinhead's release.

This was a really nice surprise today.

Them discussing it doesn't mean that other cosmetics are actually going to end up getting removed and to present it like you are IS the slippery slope fallacy.

AFAIK no other in-game cosmetics allude to blackface so have zero reason to be removed, even should they be used by trolls.

I didn't say they would get removed, I said people might try to get them removed. People can still do damage without succeeding. Which has me today looking at cosmetics I was thinking of getting and going, "Nope, not buying that for now," because even if it doesn't get removed it could become associated with a bad group of people and then I wouldn't wear it anymore, anyway. So, I'm waiting to see what the future holds. There are cosmetics I like that I don't buy just because they're associated with annoying in-game behavior, which is like nothing compared to actual hate-group behavior.

Anyway, it sucks that content is being removed from the game and no new content is replacing it. Simply removing all four masks feeds the trolls, removes a unique feature from Bubba, lowers the amount of content in the game, and punishes people who did nothing wrong. We lose four masks and get some shards in return, which can't even be used to buy Bubba cosmetics. If Bubba got some kind of new earnable cosmetics, then that'd be something. Earnable cosmetics are fun. The game needs more, but now it simply has fewer. Shards as the only compensation is the easy way out.

I was using Neon Legion as an example to illustrate how nonsensical your point is. You're suggesting that removal of the faces is just going to lead to trolls attempting to get other cosmetics banned - which is literally the slippery slope fallacy.

I wasn't "suggesting" it, I was saying I've already seen the people who abused the Smartface cosmetic (or who at least see a new way to cause trouble) discussing doing exactly that. Whether they actually go through with it and escalate the harassment of minorities in new ways, I can't say for sure because I can't travel to the future. If they don't do it, great. But I'm not creating this from thin air like the term "slippery slope fallacy" implies.

Ok so how is this master plan of these so-called "trolls" actually going to work? In what way are they actually going to get say, Neon Legion banned?

Smartface was picked by racists because of its resemblance to blackface and is being removed because of how it has been abused. Other in-game cosmetics don't have this same connotation so the argument you're making doesn't make sense. It's the slipperly slope fallacy; "removing one cosmetic leads to them all being banned."

Who said anything about Neon Legion? They're looking for a way to target LGBT+ players next, from what I've seen. Will they be able to pull it off? I don't know, but they'll try, which means they could be targeting and harassing LGBT+ players with a vengeance. I hope that doesn't actually happen, no one deserves to be harassed and LGBT+ players already have to deal with that.

"Other in-game cosmetics don't have this same connotation"

Today. I would never have predicted that a bunch of internet trolls would take the "okay" hand sign, claim it's a symbol of hate, and make it true, but they did. People can take any symbol or word and give it a new meaning at any time.

This argument isn't even worth having, because the masks are being removed and that's that. I don't get to wear my Meg mask anymore because a bunch of [BAD WORDS]s used a different mask to harass players and there's nothing I can do about that. And I just unlocked Dwight back in December. What a waste of my time. And the devs won't release a new set of non-problematic Leatherface masks because that could still be interpreted as singling people out. The playerbase loses out on something that was unique, something they could earn through gameplay, and there's nothing they can do about it. It just sucks.

  • @OnryosTapeRentals said:

The issue may be with regards to Smart Face but removing ONLY that one is singling Claudette out because of her skin colour. If they remove SF then the rest have to go too.

But Claudette is being singled out for her skin color. That's exactly what's happened.

I mean, I understand the argument for removing all four, because that's "equality," but it's also just showing that a group of people can abuse one thing and ruin multiple things for the entire playerbase. Which is exactly what trolls want, so, I guess good for them, they've discovered a new way to make DbD miserable. I've already seen talk elsewhere about what cosmetics they're going to try to get banned next. This will be their new goal, the harassment won't change or die down, it'll just take on a new face (that's not meant as a pun).

This entire thing is a huge mess. It sucks that trolls exist at all. They're only goal is to make others miserable, and they'll target any minority to do it. They'll take anything they can and ruin it for as many people as possible. The more people affected, the better. The people who were abusing Smartface to begin with are laughing and enjoying this so much right now.

So hiding in a locker for 10 seconds for 1 token of Distortion is better than blessing a totem for 14 seconds and getting permanent distortion for the entire team.

Every gen has a totem and it only takes 14 seconds to bless that totem. I don't see why buffing Distortion more than the currently planed "1 extra token" is a problem.

It's not permanent Distortion for the entire team: it only affects a limited area of the map, and the killer can snuff it out and take it away, meaning Shadowstep has limitations and is counterable. Distortion has no such counter for the killer, and its only limitation is the limited number of tokens.

  • @HeyItsQuiet said:

The fact that people are so upset about a free cosmetic that was abused getting removed is laughable, but the fact that y'all continue to equate hate behavior to teabagging and flashlights is just disgusting.

Get over it. Bubba has 2 more cosmetics besides default you can use to sit in the basement with.

Not a free cosmetic: four free cosmetics (which came with a paid character and were unlocked after much effort and a crapton of matches), three of which were not used to harass players.

"the fact that y'all continue to equate hate behavior to teabagging and flashlights is just disgusting."

The average person is bad at crafting a good argument. They're upset and they want to say something now, not realizing how much it hurts their position. There are good arguments to be made against BHVR's course of action.

  • Distortion isn't meant to be a way to hide your aura forever. Distortion tells the survivor what aura perks the killer is using so that they're only caught off guard the first time and also to keep the survivor from wasting time hiding from a perk the killer isn't running. If the killer's running something like Bitter Murmur you can hide strategically and save your final token for when the last gen pops.

Distortion encourages planning ahead. That's good. If survivors can get more tokens, then it's no longer about strategy.

Shadowstep requires 14 to 28 seconds to bless a totem, and it only works in a limited area of the map. Distortion is map-wide.
