So you added emphasis to a phrase, then proceed to completely ignore it? It says right there in the part YOU EMPHASIZED that exceptions could come from external licensing requirements.

"Exceptions might have to be made to accommodate for some external licensing needs."

I didn't emphasize that, it was italicized by BHVR in the original post. Between that statement and the problems with Freddy's chapter (he was delayed reaching Switch, right? I think he was), that statement was the reason I was expecting licensed DLC not to carry over. I didn't expect non-licensed original DLC not to transfer.

Edit: The next statement in the post I wrote once again says DLCs will transfer. That's the quote I added emphasis to. It's from an announcement made in 2021 that Switch cross-progression was done and going live. Not a promise or a "we're working on it," but a public statement that work on Switch cross-progression was finished.

  • Peanits said that characters bought with iridescent shards transfer:

    I have some answers!

    1. Yes, those will be transferred.
    2. Cosmetics will also be transferred; they are considered part of your inventory.
    3. Your progress will be transferred even if you don't own the DLC. If you don't have access to that character on the other platform, you will of course need to purchase them again in order to play them, though. Additionally, if you've prestiged them, their unique perks will be unlocked on other characters even if you don't have access to the characters themselves.

Was actually in the middle of typing out an answer as you posted this! No, it's mostly just been a busy week and we're prioritizing ongoing issues. The kinks have been worked out, but sometimes we need to poke our tech teams for help answering some of the most specific questions. Hoping to get more answers out when we get the chance.

(Question 1: "The characters I bought with my irisdent cells will be on my steam?" Answer 1: "Yes, those will be transferred.")

I don't know about Auric Cells. Someone else in the thread asked for clarification about Auric Cells but has not yet received a response.

I also want to know if characters who came with the game transfer. The console version of DbD comes with characters who are separate paid DLC on PC, and I personally got the Nintendo Switch Silent Hill edition of the game, so I'm quite curious if those characters and outfits that came with the game transfer.

People also PERCEIVE the nurse as being overpowered, but the data shows she is not. So clearly something about perception is important.

Perception is usually based on anecdotal evidence which is not considered actual evidence for many reasons including the inherently small dataset and the human tendency toward selection bias. In terms of importance, our perceptions are important to us, personally.

The data for Nurse said that overall she has a low kill count average. Averages are known for being pretty crappy statistical data on their own. If I remember correctly, her kill count gave a more accurate picture of just how strong she was in the hands of skilled players when her numbers were broken up by MMR brackets.

When I play survivor, my perception of other SWF teams is that they're all trolls and that every 3-man starts with the goal of sandbagging the solo and offering them up as a sacrificial goat. Is it true? Probably not, I probably get teamed with more 3-mans than I realize and the small optimist left in me would like to think they're not all jerks. I can't say I wouldn't dodge 3-man SWF teams if given the opportunity, though, because, even if it's only a tiny percentage that are jerks, who wants to take the chance? And that would ruin lobbies, that would ruin matchmaking, and my perception doesn't even indicate an actual problem with SWF teams, just a perceived problem.

We can't help but make personal decisions off our perceptions. When making bigger decisions and changes that affect a large scope of people, something more than "perception" is needed.

  • @Reinami said:

I would argue that if that is true, then it would indicate there is a problem or imbalance in regards to SWF vs Solos, would it not?

It only indicates a perceived problem or imbalance.

Players dodge high prestige survivors in lobbies all the time because there's a perception among some that a high prestige level is indicative of skill (which of course is not true).

The lobby holds back most information from players, so the little information it does give is interpreted as being important simply for being shown, and rather than see it as "oh, they love that character" they see it as "oh, the game is warning me they're super skilled" (and that makes sense: one of those things is meaningless and the other is pertinent information in a PvP game). If SWF information is shown, then that will also be deemed important simply for the fact that it's shown when so little else is, and even people with no bias against SWF may feel compelled to dodge. As survivor, I judge other survivors based on whether or not they play as Meg. Is that really valid information on which to determine skill level? Well, actually, that might be, my worst teammates are always Megs. But the other points stand.

  • The one survivor match I had where a killer hard tunneled, I don't think any gens popped after the first person died. The bug didn't help a bit.

When I play killer, I don't tunnel. So when I get down to a couple gens left there are probably three or four survivors still alive and with this bug I can't kill anyone or else the next gen pops and the exit gates open. That's exactly what happened in the last killer match I played, there were two gens and three survivors left, and I knew almost for a certainty that if I killed just one of them then the other two would pop a gen and power the exit gates. So I didn't kill anyone until I got both of the death-hook survivors on the ground and could kill two at once. That was the only way to play around it.

The earlier killer match I played where a survivor decided they wanted out first thing, they died so early that an extra gen popping didn't matter one way or another. It made no difference.

My reply was totally sincere :)

Really? Nice and fun matches, huh? Weird. Seriously, though, glad you're having fun. I haven't played much since the anniversary event ended, just enough to check out the gen completion bug (which never seemed to help me as a survivor, but which I had to keep in mind late game when I was playing killer).

  • There were some people complaining that they finish the Rift quickly and then there's nothing to earn and Rift fragment gifts are complete wastes.

You often write some very good comments, but this one here, this is modern poetry and hits, nay, SLAPS like a ton of bricks. Bravo :)

Aw, why thank you 😀❤️ That's probably one of the nicest things anyone's ever said on these forums.

  • Any perk that helps the opposition, usually sort of filling a skill gap or making up for a gameplay flaw, is going to be disliked by the opposing side because it makes it harder for them to exploit a weakness. If it's not a perk, it's an item or add-on (or, in the case of killers, a power). Anything that your opponent thinks helped you win will be called a 'crutch,' because they prefer to think they are more skilled and thus would've won themselves had that perk/item/whatever not helped you.

That's human nature in competitive play. (And all a generalization, of course. Not everyone is like this, but you will come across this type of mindset a lot.)

Complaints about perks that put you in a no-win situation, like the way Decisive Strike could so often do throughout its history, are more valid, but you can't really blame the person for running something that gives them an advantage; it's on the game devs to avoid such things and fix them when they do occur.

  • Cross-progression goes live July 22.

  • the reason survivor queues are so long

A "queue" is the same as waiting in a line. You wait forever in a line when the line is long, meaning there are a lot of people ahead of you. When there are fewer people in line, then you get to the front of it quickly. To continue this analogy, killers in this scenario would be the cashiers, and the more cashiers there are to take the next person in line then the faster the line moves.

If your survivor queues are long, there are too many survivors and you need more killers.

  • Another question occurred to me: What about the characters that came with the game? I bought the Silent Hill edition on Nintendo Switch, which came with numerous characters who don't come with the PC version. Do all of those characters transfer over from Switch to PC?

I guess this question actually pertains to the other consoles, as well. Will ownership of the characters that came with the PS4 and Xbox versions of DbD be unlocked on PC?

  • I've complained about this so many times.

I try to escape through the hatch in the dying state, instead it tries to recover (even if I'm as recovered as I can be). I try to open the hatch with a key, instead I start Self-Caring on top of it. Running Self-care also overrides saving off the hook, doing gens, picking up items, etc. And yes, I have changed my key bindings so that I don't throw a pallet when I try to heal, but it's not enough. During the anniversary event, it would play my lute or throw a pebble when I tried to accept a party totem. It was maddening.

Hopefully this information can be made more public and widely known so people know to do it. As you already said, the more people who do this, the better.

  • Stop killing survivors.

No, seriously. It's a bug. For each survivor you kill, if they then leave the match after dying, that's an extra gen that will pop.

  • Thank you so much for answering my questions. I appreciate both you and Peanits taking the time to clear up some of the confusion we all have on these matters.

the 4500 Iri Shards is a one off, no matter how many DLC's are included and it's for the whole DLC.
It would need to be done before the sync goes through not after.

So, that means if I own three chapters—like THE SAW Chapter, Curtain Call, and Shattered Bloodline—on Switch and I also own those same three chapters on PlayStation and I sync the PlayStation and Switch accounts, I'll get a total of 4500 Iri Shards for the three chapters altogether.

Meanwhile, if the only chapter I own across both platforms is Curtain Call, I will still get the exact same sum of 4500 Iri Shards?

If the 2 killers chase just 1 survivor, they lose, even if they waste just 20 seconds on that survivor, because the other 7 survivors are doing other gens insanely quick, with no gens slowdown.

+ The cage isn't at all where the killers wants.

7 survivors are doing other gens insanely quick

If you're just talking about gen work in general (unlikely, but possible), then I'll say: gens are not fun. Most people don't play survivor to sit on gens.

If you're (more likely) talking about survivors being able to escape, then I'd agree with that. And that's the only benefit I can see for survivors, a likelihood of escape. What happens between the start of the match and their escape is a lot less likely to be much fun for them, but if they're rewarded with an escape for putting up with not having the best time individually, then they're more likely to queue up again so the 2v8 mode doesn't dry up and leave killers waiting for an hour for a match on the first day.

I'm also going to take this moment to point out my fear when it comes to playing survivor: as is, I often play with one friend, and so matches are usually me and him and 2 useless teammates who both avoid aggro and don't touch gens. I fear this mode is going to be more of the same, but with 6 useless teammates who avoid aggro and don't touch gens. I can't predict if things will actually go that way, we'll see what happens when 2v8 goes live, but I don't even get to have my lute, I'm not sure I have any interest in being a survivor in this mode, especially not if it's me dying in most matches.

can't say for certain, but from my understanding yes that should transfer over with cross-progression.

    Thank you!

It's been stated that if the player owns DLC multiple times over, they receive 4500 iri shards. Is the 4500 iri shards a lump sum or is it for each DLC that's owned multiple times? If it is per DLC, is that per chapter or per character?

Also, if I sync up my Nintendo Switch with another platform account, see what didn't transfer, and then purchase the chapters that I already owned on Switch but don't own on the new platform, will I receive the 4500 iri shards? Or will I need to purchase any chapters bought on Switch on the new platform before syncing up? The FAQ makes it sound like it only occurs when the accounts are first synced, which is kind of (or very) inconvenient if it means checking each and every character owned on Switch to find out if they were purchased in the eShop or with shards or received via code to figure out what needs to be purchased on the new platform before syncing up, and it could easily lead to re-purchasing something that would've transferred.

Will chapters received via giveaway codes transfer over? It's a full chapter, but it wasn't purchased, it was redeemed in the DbD in-game store (on Switch but not in the Nintendo eShop) with a code given away by Fog Whisperers.

I have the feeling that, right now, BHVR might not have answers to a lot of our questions. Because, they are answering questions, just not these questions. See here, posted today:

    @Peanits said:

I've tracked down an answer for this, and it's good news for you: Because the perks are unlocked by progress and because that progress is transferred, you'll have access to the unique perks even without re-purchasing the characters.

When I try to think of why they're not answering questions, the only reason I can come up with is that they're still working out the kinks. Giving us a definitive answer when they don't know would cause them no end of headaches, and telling us they don't know the answers would be a whole other can of worms for them to deal with. So it's silence until they either get it working or until they run out of time.

If I'm wrong about this, cool, great, I look forward to being corrected and to finding out the answers to our questions. This is simply speculation because BHVR has given us no information.

Edit: went ahead and crossed out everything since it was speculation and was cleared up by a dev in the next reply.

    ah okay lol.

  • giving controller players better sensitivity settings across the board

Yes, please. Been asking for this for years.

    maybe legion would suit you

Legion can actually be really bad on console depending on the performance issues experienced. His Feral Frenzy doesn't pair well with low fps and low sensitivity, so survivors can easily dodge attacks in Frenzy and knock you out of your power, which stuns you and puts you on a long cooldown. He was okay when he was originally released and a missed attack didn't knock you out of your power; BHVR, rather than simply give him a normal missed attack cooldown, made a missed attack seriously punishing, meaning I've seen console killers who need me to stand perfectly still if they're trying to get their Daily Ritual done.

"Fun", in my opinion, isn't getting bullied by 8 survivors instead of 8, and getting also tbagged at the exit gate by 8 survivors.

The game needs to be balanced, on both sides.

24 hook states for just 8 gens is ABSOLUTELY TOO LITTLE.

Don't take me wrong, it doesn't need to be "perfectly balanced", but this is WAAAAAAYYYYYYY too much favouring survivors.

A question I have, not necessarily directed at you but in general, is: what's in this mode for survivors?

2v8 gives killers the ability for 2 killers to put a survivor in a no-win situation multiple times in a single match. Killers tag-teaming have the opportunity to make chases very short. What good is a vault or pallet if there's a killer on either side of it? Survivors also can't save each other off the killer's shoulder because there are cages, not hooks. In a mode that can give killers the chance to use survivors as a tennis ball, what is in it for survivors?

Also, if killers don't tag team and stick together, then what are the killers getting out of it? Chatting about sports and movies on coms while playing an otherwise normal match? You could do that on the phone or Discord without being in the same match together.

Yea, just make sure you keep the blame for this on Nintendo and not BHVR. Remember, they tried their best to get it all transferred.

Honestly, I thought Sony would be the hold out, so that Sony is on board finally but Nintendo is the hold out was not on my bingo card.

I wrote a long post with sources already explaining why BHVR is on the hook for this:

    @TragicSolitude said:

For years, the Switch port and DLC were sold to Switch players with the promise that cross-progression is coming and will include the transfer of DLC. Some Switch players purchased the game and DLC because of that promise and would not have done so otherwise.

Cross-progression for Switch was announced back in July 2020.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20200720185133/https%3A//deadbydaylight.com/en/news/breaking-barriers-with-cross-play-and-cross-progression

Stated here: "We are thrilled to announce that we are preparing the first steps toward Cross-Progression and that it will be available for Steam, Google Stadia and Nintendo Switch in September! Players will be able to share their progression, purchases, and inventory on those 3 platforms – Exceptions might have to be made to accommodate for some external licensing needs."

News from 2021 is still available online, both on the live site

    https://deadbydaylight.com/news/nintendo-switch-joins-cross-progression/

and on Archive.org and states: "your character progression, DLCs, and purchased or unlocked items will all be available to you." (The emphasis added is my own.)

The release of cross-progression for Switch was pushed back multiple times, but no update stating "DLC will not be included" has ever been made.

Questions about cross-progression were rarely answered, but when they were, the response was: "I'm sorry but there is no further update on Cross Progression at the present time." (quoted from Reddit 10 months ago). No updates. No changes.

BHVR has, for four years, claimed that Nintendo Switch players will get to keep their DLC. When they have given updates, they have not revised their statement.

Whether or not BHVR has any control over the change, it was BHVR who made statements about DLC transferring: BVHR has a responsibility to make sure information they share with customers is correct and to make things right for their customers when it is incorrect. If they made a promise they can't deliver on, that's on BHVR, they advertised this feature to their customers. As is, BHVR's statements about cross-progression misrepresented their capabilities and misrepresented the product they were selling.

Switch players gave money, time, and an unreasonable amount of patience as they dealt with the never ending performance issues. The number of customers who would not have purchased DbD on Switch if the cross-progression statement had not been made is high. Customers spent money based on faulty information. I did not purchase the chapters on Switch just to play half the chapter; killer has been unplayable for me, but even though I can only play half the game I still paid the same as everyone else.

The money spent by Switch players is just as important and holds the same value as the money spent by players on other platforms. For years, we have paid the same as everyone else (or more, when compared to PC) for an inferior product. Many of us did it because you, BHVR, made the statement that DLC would transfer to other platforms with cross-progression.

What is being done to make sure Switch players have access to the cross-progression function that encouraged them to purchase DLC for the platform with the worst performance? Because right now, we're being told we're not receiving the product for which we paid, and that's not acceptable.

I refrain from speculation when it comes to who's at fault for what behind the scenes with contracts and negotiations. But when it comes to who made public promises to existing and potential Switch players since 2020, encouraging people to buy and put up with a port that started off questionable and whose performance has only degraded over time, that's BHVR. I'm sorry BHVR's left holding the ball here when there were two parties involved, but making statements to customers and accepting money means they have obligations.

They could start with answering questions and clearing up confusion.

  • BHVR has not answered any questions or clarified anything about Switch cross-progression. It's frustrating.

There are two main types of purchases in the game: purchases made in the platform's store and purchases made within DbD itself. We have no idea if those two types of purchases will be treated equally when syncing.

There are also two main types of content, licensed and original unlicensed, and we don't know if limitations in what transfers applies to only licensed or also to original. A lot of us expected limitations on licensed content transferring.

And BHVR says that when you sync your content you'll get 4500 iri shards for DLC bought twice…

    https://x.com/TGContrarian/status/1813950756879315158

but will this occur after syncing as well? For players who already own content on Switch, sync with PC, and then re-purchase any non-transferred content on the PC account, will they receive those 4500 iri shards? Or do we need to make all necessary repeat purchases prior to syncing to receive the shards?

Nintendo Switch players were told "sorry, we're not giving you what we've been promising for four years," and have then been left in the dark about what exactly that means.

  • I think it's the counter that's broken. I and many others are experiencing matches where multiple gens pop when only a single gen is actually completed. It's unlikely you'd be able to reproduce this with bots: it requires at least one dead survivor and for the dead survivor(s) to leave the match (in other words, not spectate). Bots can't leave or spectate.

I had a match yesterday where 2 survivors were dead, 4 gens were left. Me and the other remaining survivor were working on the same gen and popped it together. It went from 4 gens left to 1 gen left. The number of dead survivors (who are not spectating) seems to be the key to how many gens pop at once.

  • It's horrible. It's exactly the kind of graphic and tactic used in free-to-play mobile games to get people to spend money, and it's a loud annoying visual distraction that comes off as gauche in a paid PC/console game. It's as tactless as putting the newest character at the top of the list whether you own her or not.

This wasn't done with the goal of improving the UI, and you'll be hard pressed to find someone who thinks it does improve the UI. It's marketing. Shoving marketing where it's not appropriate doesn't improve anything for the user; it benefits the marketer.

Showing y gamemodes aint being permanent with bad takes like that

I look forward to high-fiving my friend when we down a survivor after coordinating an awesome pincer movement (or more likely accidentally getting a down after tripping over each other).

Meanwhile, if I play survivor and get the snot beaten out of me by 2 killers trapping me each time I attempt to use a pallet or vault and end every match with no BP, then I'll be swearing off 2v8 as survivor before the first evening is up. I can have a miserable time as survivor in normal 1v4 mode and at least there I'll have more opportunities to earn BP and I can play the lute.

There are numerous reasons game modes aren't permanent. Saying my take is bad looks like an attempt to hurt my feelings or get a rise out of me, which sorry, not my thing. However, you have made it perfectly clear you don't wish to have a discussion: whether it's because you just want to rant and vent your feelings or because you only want an echo chamber, either way you should've made that clear in your original post.

I Agree 100%. After all this time I am not sure why they haven't made QOL changes for console yet. Its horrible playing as him but I want to love him so much.

why they haven't made QOL changes for console yet

BHVR actually keeps taking away basic QOL features that made console more bearable. I'm referring to shortcut keys for actions in the lobby. Accepting a SWF invitation, going from the current character to the next or previous character, there were hotkeys for those actions. It's extremely frustrating that those simple and needed QOL features have been removed for no discernible reason.

BHVR does not understand console. They don't. I'm at a loss as to why, instead of making it better, they've made it worse. And even after releasing DbD on multiple consoles they have continued to make killers that are tailored for mouse and keyboard PC players and absolutely suck on console.

I was extremely disappointed when Oni originally released. He looked so fun on PC, but I bought him and immediately discovered he's not fun on controller. I delete his Daily Ritual when it pops up.

disagree you said it yourself the other modes have been killer sided yet queue times are unaffected in them however queue times for killers will be affected since you need two and with miserable its gonna be i can expect 5 to 10 min queue times for survivors

killers will be affected since you need two and with miserable its gonna be

2v8 allows 2 killers to gang up on a single survivor and put them in no-win situations, then immediately cage them with no chance of a flashlight or stun save from teammates. One of the biggest complaints people make in this game is about no-win situations. It's why Decisive Strike has been changed so many times and doesn't work in the end game anymore. 2v8 mode is basically centered around 2 killers getting to create no-win situations repeatedly in a single match.

The fun for killers here is getting to team up, whether with a friend or a stranger, and get funny tag-team moments that were either meticulously coordinated or accidentally perfect. Survivors, meanwhile, are being asked to have possibly the shortest chases ever, and chases are the fun part for many survivors, plus no chance at saving someone off the killer's shoulder, which is the other thing survivors mainly enjoy, so there better be something for survivors to look forward to if you want them to queue up for a mode that lacks two of their three favorite things. That means survivors get to have a high chance of escaping.

The queue has a high likelihood of breaking because it requires such a high number of survivors for a single match. Killers are going to play because they finally get to play killer with a friend, but survivors? There has to be real incentive for survivors to queue up, otherwise killers are going to be waiting an hour to play a single match. If survivors went into 2v8 with a high likelihood they'll die early and then have to wait for who knows how many of their friends to finish the match, survivors wouldn't queue up for it. If survivors went into 2v8 expecting to end up in no-win situation after no-win situation that ends with their death and damn near no Bloodpoints, they wouldn't queue up for it. So, by design, the majority of survivors in a match are going to escape. That's predetermined. BHVR needs short matches with the majority of survivors escaping for the queue to function.

Anyway, those are the conclusions I reached after reading/listening to/watching yesterday's live stream. Maybe some of the conclusions I reached are wrong: the information we received is limited and I haven't played the mode, plus I can't make any judgements from watching matches featuring 8 people who play the game for a living vs 2 who do not (just because devs work on a game doesn't mean they're good at playing it, those are different skillsets). It's also possible that, because the 2v8 matches which were shown were meant as demonstrations, the devs playing killer were encouraged to focus on showcasing the tag-team aspect rather than on getting kills. I'm not saying that happened, I'm saying we can't say "look at how those matches went" as any sort of argument or proof.

tldr: If you need to get kills to have fun, 2v8 probably wasn't designed for you. If you have a friend or simply want to experience team play as killer, then 2v8 is for you.

@TragicSolitude absolutely, all platforms should be stepping up for these people, I'm not a lawyer either but my work requires me to study areas of the law in depth to prevent my company from making mistakes that can lead to lawsuits, to be clear though I dont wish a lawsuit on this company I just hope they make it right because from the outside looking in I already see potential for this to come back on them in a bad way if they don't play their cards right on how they respond and resolve the matter.

my work requires me to study areas of the law in depth to prevent my company from making mistakes that can lead to lawsuits

Oh, cool! It's great to get input from someone with experience in these matters. Thank you for sharing your knowledge :)

I already see potential for this to come back on them in a bad way if they don't play their cards right on how they respond and resolve the matter.

Yeah, a lot of people are minimizing this, and I think a misconception held by players on other platforms and even possibly BHVR themselves is that Switch players are happy with the product they purchased and are throwing a tantrum because they're not getting wishlisted bonus features. (The second part of that misconception—which I know exists from conversations I've had—is that all consoles were lumped together when BHVR said they wanted to add cross-progression, and Switch was never explicitly promised anything… for which I have sources to prove otherwise.)

The reality is the opposite: Many/most Switch players have not been happy with the product they bought. We received an inferior product (which we bought in the first place because cross-progression was promised) and many of us stuck with it and purchased DLC because BHVR made multiple statements that our purchases would transfer to PC and our patience, money, and loyalty would go further than on other consoles. We were the only console BHVR made this promise to, and now we are the only platform not getting it.

The very big important factor here is that many people based their purchases on the statements BHVR made and would not have made those purchases had BHVR not made those statements.

Were this something BHVR never stated, or had they not released the game on Switch and taken our money, then yeah, the correct response to yesterday's announcement would be "disappointment." But that's not what happened, and I'm pretty sure consumer protections exist to hold companies accountable in situations like this. And you seem to be backing up my statement, which is good to hear.

I don't want bad things to happen to BHVR. I'm sorry that they're left holding the ball here when there were two companies involved, but it's ultimately BHVR's responsibility to fix it because the promises made while accepting money were made by them.

Edit: Expanded on the second part of the misconception since it's something I've noticed when conversing with others. The first part, that people may not understand Switch players put up with an inferior product for promised future payoff, is conjecture, but the second part about many non-Switch players never realizing Switch had already been singled out for guaranteed cross-progression (including transfer of purchases/DLC) is not conjecture.

That is unfortunate to be confirmed, but I appreciate it.

Hoping a mod or someone with knowledge will answer the cosmetics question, that's more important IMO.

Yeah, BHVR has been frustratingly silent about cosmetics and what exactly is and isn't being shared from Switch. And the mods/devs are active, they're just not responding to this particular set of questions. It makes me wonder if they're still working out the kinks and don't want to make another promise they can't keep but also don't want to anger their customers unnecessarily.

I've seen players speculate about cosmetics, which (no shade on anyone, I understand the instinct) I wish people would refrain from doing because it confuses players and helps BHVR hide their silence behind "oh hey, someone else answered that question" when only an official response has any value here.

The list of different types of content purchases is long. Chapters bought in the Switch store vs chapters purchased in DbD with auric cells vs chapters obtained with a giveaway code. Cosmetics obtained with auric cells vs iri shards vs a code. Licensed vs original content. The paid Rift track, Amazon Prime, auric cell pack cosmetic gifts. These are different things and we have no idea how it's being handled or what we can expect.

It’s honestly remarkable how I can’t find a single good thing about it.

It’s overwhelming at first glance. It messes with the order for no discernible reason beyond “here’s what you don’t own yet :)”

Navigation was made counterintuitive and way harder. (Why hide two of the screens behind the character select screen???) (why change the icon as well??)

Everything is smaller, adding to the feeling of “there’s ######### everywhere”

The !-marks when there’s new store cosmetics is distracting, gross and reeks of corpo-greed. You removed the “owned” tag, remove that as well.

I’m sorry, but these changes are so very blatanly prioritising sales over usability.

It's free-to-play mobile game UI design in a paid PC/console game. Immersive horror games don't throw gaudy advertisements at players because those hurt the game's atmosphere. The negative mobile-game-adjacent feeling created by seeing the tacky UI in the lobby persists beyond the lobby and into the game itself, infecting the entire product. The couple times I started up Fortnite I couldn't stand it because it felt like one big flashy advertisement. I'm not a teen, I'm an adult, DbD is rated M and is designed for adults… except that the new design is less mature and adult-tailored and more targeted at 2-second-attention-span teens who are prone to buy garbage if they're constantly reminded they don't own said garbage.

I don't like it when my experience in a game suffers due to the company's desire to promote paid content. If my experience is suffering, I will not want to spend money, and I will spend less money than I had been before. When a game prioritizes my experience, that creates a loyal customer.

  • Fornite went for a low-poly version.

    FortniteSkins1.png

They also got better-graphics version Lara in actual shorts. Lara's legs are too amazing for DbD players' eyes to handle, I guess.

A bundle of auric cells for Nintendo players transferring over would be a nice gesture for cross progression.

Though this has got me thinking, and not to deviate the thread too much, but it always baffles me how Nintendo seem to get this free ride comparing it to other platforms.

This thread has the sort of disappointed acceptance of it from Nintendos side, and instead points the finger at BHVR quite heavily, and there is undoubted blame in that regard...

However the reality is likely to be very much that each of those announcementa went off of information that was available at the time, and it was expected to be able to implement that change... and it smells highly of Ninetndo suddenly turning around and going "nah lol, we're not gonna allow that". Yet there is barely a bad word ro be said about Ninendos han'd in all this.

I've seen them do it constantly with cease and desist orders, suing free fan made projects, gating their stuff being paywalls, attacking roms, locking literally everything they can to their own console and refused to budge on any customer beneficial features... and I don't mind all of this... the game industry is insane.

What I do mind is how when either Sony or Microsoft do anything remotely resembling these things, there is an armada of backlash. Sony especially... Sony can literally foot the bill to fund a game dames development themselves like Bloodborne, and get slated for not making it available on other consoles... yet you turn to Nintendo and everyone is singing their praises for gating literally every franchise they have on the Nintendo system....

You need a Sony account for Helldivers 2, since Sony published and funded development of the damned game? Games like Sea of Thieves needs a Microsoft account, and pretty muvh any massive online game requires registering with the publisher, but usually no one bats an eye....

Just confuses me so much why Nintendo pulls so much shady and anti-consumer crap... and no one seems to care, loving them anyway 😅

I don't want to shift focus to this, but I'll give my viewpoint here. First off, I don't have access to the negotiations or contracts between Nintendo and BHVR. I don't know for a certainty who's responsible for what behind the scenes. I know who's responsible for making statements that directly influenced my financial decisions and caused me to buy a game and DLC I otherwise wouldn't have, and that's BHVR.

On Twitter, I see the opposite of what you're talking about in terms of Nintendo-fanboy-love and free passes, because everyone who is upset about cross-progression gets at least one response from someone saying "bruh, don't blame BHVR, this is Nintendo's fault." One party may be more responsible for this mess than the other, but it's still two parties involved, neither is without responsibility. BHVR made public statements advertising that Switch cross-progression would include purchases/DLC, that's a fact that I can point to with evidence. Deviating from it would mean basing my statements on conjecture.

And ultimately, this thread exists on BHVR's forums, so my statements are directed at BHVR.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure all those little fire effects on the wreckage of Nostromo map are the reason why it's so painful to play on. It's the one map I never, ever want to be sent to on Switch. I honestly wouldn't mind if some of the fancier visual effects were disabled, if that's really the only way to improve performance for the platform and reach a stable 30 fps. I do think the game would really benefit if BHVR hired a studio that specialised in PC to console ports to look over their code, but it probably wouldn't be worth the investment at this point. In any case, there are some miraculous PC ports for the Switch so I'm sure the game could run better than it currently does.

I live in the UK, which I think has a relatively smaller pool of players compared to pretty much everywhere else. So it's a rare but exciting experience to encounter another Switch player in the wild. I see maybe 1 every couple of months.

    Yup.

A while back I played Lords of the Fallen on PC. Beautiful game, absolutely beautiful. Had some performance issues, which they tirelessly worked on and I think managed to fix. I wasn't crazy about how they fixed them, though, because they actually removed assets from the levels in the lower graphical settings. I had to change the graphics setting to ultra to get the beautiful levels back, and of course that really noticeably hurt performance… I messed around a bit, and I found that when I turned the visual effects quality to "who cares about smoke lol" the game ran smooth: even with the ultra graphics setting and all those decorations and blades of grass that were deemed expendable the game ran smooth.

Long story short, visual effects are taxing. Any game with performance issues should be look at sledgehammering high quality VFX particle effect nonsense.

I'm not trying to condone anyone to do anything against this company but that's outright just not legal, BHVR really needs to address these people and fix this issue, from a legal standpoint they could absolutely be held liable for falsely advertising that for profits, they need to make this right and either give them a way to save their account or offer them a code for each chapter they already bought since they promised cross progression to them specifically to keep them buying and playing, it's only reasonable if they can't provide what they promised they compromise with the next best thing.

I agree so much with everything you said.

from a legal standpoint they could absolutely be held liable for falsely advertising that for profits

This is exactly how I see it, though I've avoided saying it outright on these forums because I'm not a lawyer and I don't want to cross a line. I've tried to get BHVR's attention on Twitter by using words with legal implications, but that's Twitter.

I really really wish I saw more people being irate about this. I've seen an irate Tweet get almost 100 likes but that's not individual voices being heard, it's not action, it might as well be a shrug of the shoulders for all it means. Anyone who bought Switch content under the belief that DLC would transfer should be upset and they should be loud about it.

Thank you for the detailed reply and source. I reviewed that FAQ; it also mentions a 60-day wait to link another account. So, I'm not certain unless I am misreading it entirely.

From your reply, I can't tell exactly how you're reading the FAQ, but I get the impression you are mixing up "linking" accounts and "syncing" accounts. Those are two different things. First, you link platform accounts together in your BHVR account. Then, once your platform accounts are linked, you can choose to sync the accounts. Syncing a platform account is permanent.

If a platform account has not been synced, then it can be unlinked. After a platform account is unlinked, there's a 60-day wait before a different account on the same platform can be linked.

So, first comes linking platform accounts, which can be undone. Then comes syncing accounts, which is permanent.

I apologize if I misread your reply and you were already aware of this. BHVR is not great at clarity, so I start off with the assumption that BHVR's statements have confused everyone and I go from there. :)

Edit: It's been a long time since this post was made, but the FAQ was updated after this conversation to say this: "Once you have linked a provider account, you are unable to unlink this account and change it for another." Linking accounts and syncing accounts are both permanent actions.

I really do hope this (and 2 Vs 8 mode) isn't a signal that BHVR are going to stop supporting the Switch soon. It will be quite a while before I upgrade to the new Nintendo console and doubt I'm alone in that respect. It probably wouldn't make great business sense to drop a huge install base for a what is likely to be a pretty small one (for at least a year or two, anyway).

While there are probably not that many Switch players left in the west, I bet it's a fairly popular platform in Japan where the Xbox may as well not exist and PC gaming isn't so popular.

Funny thing is, I'm not sure DBD should be having the terrible performance issues that it has on the Switch. Fortnite shares the same game engine, seems to be more demanding (at least to my layman's eyes) and yet is very well optimised for the console. But on my PC, DBD is flawless yet Fortnite ran so poorly I ended up uninstalling it.

I know BHVR doesn't exactly have the same resources as Epic, but surely the Switch version of the game can be improved beyond how it currently runs?

BHVR really does not optimize their games. If I remember correctly, BHVR hires people without coding experience so they can teach them the BHVR way of coding in-house. I also don't think they go to professionals experienced with console ports to port their games over, meaning BHVR does it themselves and wings it, and we've experienced the results first-hand.

From what I know, DbD does not run well on PS4. I can play games that are much more demanding with no issues on my PS4 Pro, but I had to buy an external SSD for PS4 Pro to get DbD to run well. I'm pretty sure a big reason the game runs poorly is the visual effects. All that smoke, all the particle effects, I don't think BHVR bothers to keep those at a low res, even though they're unnecessary extraneous elements, and so the VFX cause my PS4's poor fans to go into louder-than-a-jetliner mode. That used to be a problem on the load-in screen before BHVR finally accepted that the uncapped loading screen fog was causing performance issues and they JPEG'd it. Another reason for the poor performance: There's a good chance BHVR is still using a lot of the code they started with, which means the game runs an enormous number of "if then" statements to determine what it should do, for example you press button "X" and now the game has to ask "Are you this killer? Are you this killer?" before getting to the right one and performing the correct action. The devs use better machinery to brute force the code, and performance degrades over time as the code becomes more monstrous with each update until once again better machinery is required simply because the game has grown larger even if the graphics and everything else remained the same.

I could be wrong, but this is the impression I've been given over the years of playing this game, reading the forums, seeing BHVR's job listings, etc. I'd love for anyone who knows differently to correct me if I am wrong, as I'm always interested in learning more, especially when it comes to why this game runs like hot garbage on many consoles when other games surpass it in graphics, performance, and number of players in a match on the same consoles.

While there are probably not that many Switch players left in the west

Amazingly, whenever DbD has had some Switch-specific problem and disabled Switch cross-play, I still got instant lobbies without repeat players. I'm on North American servers. I'm sometimes surprised by just how many other Switch players I see in my lobbies when cross-play is on.

  • There's an FAQ:

    https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/articles/28143341034644-Cross-Progression-Release-FAQ

I think this is what you're asking:

Once I have enabled Cross-Progression, can I unsync my platforms from the Behaviour account?

You are not able to unsync platforms from your Behaviour account once you have synced accounts. Player Support is also unable to circumvent this restriction on request.

  • Is it just me or did that madness in stream look a little hard from the killers perspective? 😅

I think the fun as killer will be getting great tag-team moments with your partner. Two friends can finally ditch the survivor queue and chat while playing killer together, and two strangers can have moments of "aw, hell yeah!" when they manage to coordinate a great move without verbal communication.

  • Me and one other survivor remained in a match with four gens left. We popped one. Then there was only one gen left.

    Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

I'm not going to pretend I have nearly as big a stake in this matters as others, since realistically speaking the only thing I'd like to transfer from my Switch account are Stranger Things skins I bought before it left the stores a few years ago, but I agree that a show of goodwill from BHVR would go a long way here.

These are digital assets that have for the most part already made their money and earned their value in terms of cost, I think that despite BHVR's smaller status as a company, they could bite the bullet instead of punishing those who have invested so much money into the Switch port.

At the very least, Nintendo will probably allow Cross Progression between Switch 1 and whatever the successor is called. I wonder how long the Switch Port will last tbh, it's never been the best running or prettiest game, but 2v8 getting an active warning about its playability is a pretty big sign that it's on borrowed time.

the only thing I'd like to transfer from my Switch account are Stranger Things skins I bought before it left the stores a few years ago

I don't understand why BHVR is being so opaque about what exactly is transferring. There are so many different items that can be bought and earned in the game. DLC chapters purchased in the platform's store. DLC chapters purchased with auric cells. DLC chapters received via a giveaway code. Auric Cell-only cosmetics. Iri Shard cosmetics. Cosmetics that were purchased with Auric Cells but are available with Iri Shards. Cosmetics that were received via a giveaway code. The free Rift track. The paid Rift track. The Amazon Prime cosmetics. The free limited-time cosmetics given away with the purchase of Auric Cell packs. And do the limitations apply to all of that type of product or are some limitations only applied to licensed content?

We know nothing except that Switch players get both less than what was promised and less than every other platform.

These are digital assets that have for the most part already made their money and earned their value in terms of cost, I think that despite BHVR's smaller status as a company, they could bite the bullet instead of punishing those who have invested so much money into the Switch port.

Fingers crossed we at least get our cosmetics. If they could throw us that bone it would hurt a bit less lol

"we'd known, we may or may not have purchased DbD on a different platform, but we definitely would not have bought it on Switch."

The crazy thing for me is that I had the PS5 sitting there for ages while I played on Switch. I'd seen the updates about Switch cross progression, and that played into my decision to delay buying it on PS5. Really bummed I delayed and kept putting the money into Switch instead of just switching to PS5 immediately. Once I switched, I couldn't go back because the Switch performance is so poor in comparison. I said not long ago that this game wasn't made to be played on Switch in any capacity.

that played into my decision to delay buying it on PS5. Really bummed I delayed and kept putting the money into Switch instead of just switching to PS5 immediately.

Yup, people made financial decisions based on information that BHVR made public and advertised. That's why I see it as a serious issue rather than just, "Man, this is disappointing."

I probably would've purchased the game on Steam or played it for free on Epic. I would've purchased the DLC on PC. And if I now for some masochistic need for self-flagellation decided to play it on Switch, all my PC purchases would transfer over, meaning I'd be both better off on PC and at the same place on Switch.

the Switch performance is so poor in comparison. I said not long ago that this game wasn't made to be played on Switch in any capacity.

I've said as much, too. The performance is unacceptable and the fact they felt comfortable selling it to customers for at least as much money as any other platform is mind-boggling. Now, Switch players suffered through the performance issues, paid for DLC that many of us couldn't fully utilize (I'm not the only one on Switch who can only play half the game because killer is unplayable), and are getting less for their money than everyone else. Players on other platform got a better product for the same amount of money, and now that money goes even further because their purchases transfer to other platforms. Including transferring to Switch. There are so many things wrong with how BHVR is handling this, with how they're treating their loyal Switch playerbase, that it's almost a struggle to comprehend it.

  • BHVR keeps removing hotkeys when they should be adding more. Hotkeys are important for console players. BHVR's consideration for console players and what we need is abysmal. Just because PC players don't need it doesn't mean other players don't.

  • They made things more complicated, more frustrating, and more time-consuming, all three of which go against what UI/UX designers are supposed to do.

The new order of the characters throws everything off, the game doesn't save which filter you prefer for the lists, it's more difficult to adjust your outfit, the hotkeys to go to the previous or next character are gone, selecting charms has taken five steps backwards, everything is worse.

  • The charms list scrolls back to the top all the time. The old UI, if you switched from one slot to a different empty slot, the charm list stayed where it was.

This UI is awful. It feels so broken trying to use it.

Honestly, this complain sounds completely fair to me given BHVRs statements in the past.

I get Nintendo might say No to the DLC Sharing but this feels like something BHVR should then make right themselves. Like…just unlock the Original Characters and give an "At Cost" discount to the DLC (I have no idea how much of the $4 per character goes to BHVR versus whoever owns the rights to the character. While it would be most right for them to just give everyone on Switch the characters on other devices, I can at least understand why they wouldn't just want to eat those costs).

I would even say that as these are digital assets, a show of goodwill can be made (seeing as the person has already spent money on these and this can be verified), that for Switch players transferring who are losing their characters and DLC, they can get a token to download across accounts regardless of Nintendo.

or as you mentioned a discount - DBD players are usually very loyal - we are spending money on an 8 year old game anyway. Goodwill gestures will usually bring benefits in the long run.

I’m sure there are many nuances to this but honestly, loyalty in this case would be the best move.

Great points and exactly the kind of thing I'm suggesting.

    as these are digital assets

Yeah, since these are digital assets, there's no overhead cost for BHVR to eat in terms of physical resources. Giving away original non-licensed content is a conceptual loss, not a physical loss of money and product.

Since Stranger Things is back, I'm not even upset at the idea of licensed chapters needing to be repurchased. That was mentioned as a possibility in BHVR's very first cross-progression announcement. But original non-licensed chapters? Those are under BHVR's full control.

Edit: also did they say how we can link our Switch accounts? Might have missed it

Yeah I've been waiting for ages to get all my stuff from Switch, but part of me kind of anticipated this.

I anticipated that no console DLC chapters would transfer, or at least no licensed DLC chapters. I did not expect that Switch, the only console that was promised to have its DLC transfer with cross-progression, would be the only platform to not get it at all.

Any chance a dev can confirm if cosmetics for DLC characters will transfer across?

I've asked in other threads if cosmetics transfer and if so which ones. One was even a direct response to a community manager. There's been no answer. If cosmetics don't transfer, then that's really bad. BHVR needs to be clearer on the specifics about cross-progression, because "shared DLC" is as ambiguous as they could possibly be.

I feel your pain but this honestly makes complete sense. Nintendo 4 years ago didn't have a new console about to be announced.

There's no reason to risk losing a customer to a competitor if their next gen console is literally months away from being announced.

Most Nintendo players are loyal anyway for the exclusives (Mario, Zelda, DK, Pokémon) and didn't buy a Switch for DBD.

They want players to stay with Nintendo and my hope is that we will get an upgrade of the game the same way PS and XBOX players did.

I don't know if Bhvr would make a Switch 2 upgrade or not though and even if they were working on one, they would have an iron clad NDA not to tell us as Nintendo hasn't formally revealed the Switch successor.

I personally have decided to completely stop playing and purchasing DLC until an announcement from both companies are made.

After today's Livestream, where a developer stated despite their best efforts, 2v8 has performance issues on Switch, there is no other rational choice.

There's no point investing time and money in something that could be discontinued so near in the future.

It's not even beating around the bush that bhvr isn't going to be able to support the Switch port for much longer at this point and Switch has lost 2 live service games in the past year.

You can skip to 1:32:00 and see the devs talking about Switch performance today with the new mode:

I do understand your frustration, I'm not thrilled as I've bought every dlc and $500 of auric cells but this is the reality.

I personally have decided to completely stop playing and purchasing DLC until an announcement from both companies are made.

I'm definitely not buying DLC on a platform that can't share it. My friend today went out for a PlayStation card so they could get Lara Croft. "Would you like me to pick you up a Switch card?" I very quickly responded "No."

(And then I told him about the cross-progression update, and he too is quite upset. He has, sitting next to me, watched me struggle through the low fps and all the other performance issues while I waited for cross-progression, and he feels bad it's gone this way. If we'd known, we may or may not have purchased DbD on a different platform, but we definitely would not have bought it on Switch. And that's why I'm livid, because BHVR went back on statements that greatly influenced people's purchases, and that's something companies aren't supposed to do.)

I read that already. Store cosmetics are not mentioned. The Rift and cosmetics earned on the Rift are not mentioned.

Edit: Also, what about the timed exclusives received for purchasing Auric Cells? Those were free gifts and can't be bought in the store.

  • I too am curious about this. "Shared DLC" is extremely ambiguous.
