Yeah, they do this to me all the time.

Hi team, thanks for reading.
First off, I'd be remiss not to add another voice to the pile of "please give us a P100 reward" - whether it be a charm, an outfit, etc…please. It's such a rough grind, it's most importantly a FREE grind (anyone can do it! ANYONE AND EVERYONE! Not everyone can buy cosmetics!), and we deserve a fun celebration at the end of it.
In the interim, you've now taken away the real main joy of reaching prestige 100ing a character: sharing that joy with others! I know some people just do it for themselves and that's cool, but not me. I want to flex. In solo queue, it's super fun to match my P100 Zarina with strangers. In SWFs, it's so satisfying to have everyone matching those red iridescent numbers.
I respect and appreciate you listened to people who wanted to hide said prestige, I think it's great you listened and actioned a response. However, not all players want this, and I'd argue not even the majority want it.
Please make it a toggleable affect like anon mode. Please. I want to share in the P100 joy with others :)
I'd argue not even the majority want it.
It's not necessarily about anyone wanting it. BHVR did a test a while back where some people saw prestiges in the lobbies and others didn't. It tested whether there was less lobby dodging when prestiges were hidden. Lobby dodging ruins matches because the matchmaking is turned off to fill the empty spot the person leaves behind as fast as possible.
I want to flex
I want to share in the P100 joy with others
I have never thought anyone is interested in my prestige for any reason other than how it may reflect my skill level. I keep my prestige low so people don't get their hopes up. I've never cared about anyone else's prestige except when I'm having a slew of bad matches and I see a high prestige and think, "There's no way I want to play survivor with this person." (I know prestige has nothing to do with skill, but anecdotally I have found the high prestige survivors make the most miserable teammates.)
Cosmetics are still shown in the lobby. Prestiges are still shown on the end screen. The killer's prestige has always been limited to the end screen.
This change is good. Whatever small bit of enjoyment some people get from a few moments of "flexing" in the lobby is outweighed by matches actually having proper matchmaking that isn't ruined by someone dodging. DbD isn't a lobby sim; the important part is the gameplay that happens in the matches.

I had a match earlier today where I spectated for a minute after I and another survivor died. I saw Survivor 1 get on a gen, then Survivor 2 motioned "come this way" and led Survivor 1 to the basement where Survivor 2 pointed at a locker, and so they both hid in lockers in the basement.
I didn't stick around to watch how it went. I don't think the killer was very experienced, though, so he may have been stuck there for a long time.

Self care use to be so common back then and the devs just nerfed it to the ground 😔. Same with circle of healing but you have to find teammates to heal each other. Strength and shadows isn’t too bad but sometimes going into the basement can be risky sometimes. If you had medkit with addons I guess that’s the luckiest you have.
going into the basement can be risky sometimes
I mean, it should be risky. It's a video game, risk is the fun part. Safe is boring. No one ever talks about the fun they had sitting on five gens while the killer watched, they talk about the awesome late-game save they just barely pulled off with the killer on their ass and NOED still up and their controller spontaneously combusting.

What ? Lol, I guess you misunderstood me. If I were addicted I would get nervous if I couldn't play the game and would focus on it all the time. I can take a break for months and not miss anything about the game. But I've just come out of a month-long break for 2vs8 with a renewed desire to play DBD more regularly AFTER MONTHS, but when I think about the sweat in 1vs 4 I just can't.
lol sorry, I was using it more as a metaphor. But I mostly play DbD during events and special modes, and I have fun with meme-y things like Bardic Inspiration and Plot Twist. I take a lot of breaks. I mostly play the game because I play with a friend. Outside of that I would've quit, I only enjoy it because of the memes and because it's a way to spend time with my friend. The actual intended gameplay of basic 1v4 is often not fun. So I could suggest memeing with perks, but if you're playing solo my recommendation is really to play something else and only play DbD for events and special modes. 2v8 is so much different from 1v4 it's like a completely different game. Playing 1v4 like a stopgap while you wait for 2v8 to return is unlikely to scratch the itch.

If I am being forced to choose the option of losing then I'd say it may as well be a hostage situation. You can holler all you want about definitions but that doesn't make it right for people to take advantage of a broken scenario and for someone to outright force a situation to become so stagnant. You may think the definition of hostage is not up for debate. It is, because I'm debating it, if two players are making a game unwinnable and creating a situation that leaves a Morton's fork, then it is a hostage situation. "Imperative not to muddy" when it literally is happening.
that doesn't make it right for people to take advantage of a broken scenario
I still never said it made it right. There are many things that can be wrong and unfair. It's wrong and unfair when a teammate stops playing and creates a lose-lose scenario. I never said otherwise. Going AFK and throwing the match like that is considered "Unsportsmanlike behavior." It falls under the definition of "refusing to participate in normal gameplay." The behavior/situation is already defined, and it a separate type of wrong from the defined "hostage situation."

Who of you knows this strange feeling?
I played DBD very actively for a while, but in the last 2 years or so I've taken more and longer breaks.
Now I'm at a point where I've been wanting to play for days, but then I think about the unfun playstyles like tunneling, slugging and camping, and I immediately lose the desire to start the game.
Note: This is NOT an Us vs Them post !!!!
I can only speak from the survivor perspective because that's the role I play most of the time and prefer to play. I'm sure there are also Killer players who know the same or similar feelings as I've described, for other reasons (swf, tbagging, flashlights and so on), who are also welcome to talk about their feelings.
My question is: What should I do? Do you have any tips for me on how I can stop caring about these unfun things as mentioned above? I wish I just didn't care and could think "Okay, the match was unfun, go next".
But unfortunately most matches are unfun with the same unfun playstyles over and over again. I only play solo, which is even more frustrating because you not only have the killer as an opponent but often your team too.
Searching for people to play SWF with is not an option either, I'm introverted and on many days I don't feel like talking at all.I found 2vs8 quite relaxing, it was chaotic but tunneling and camping were hardly there and when one or two survivor disconnected or were eliminated early you still had the feeling you had a chance. I know, many people missed the perks but for me it was great that there were no clear meta. But even though I really feel the need to play, thoughts of the sweaty 1v4 mode keep me from doing so.
I know I asked for tips, but I doubt there are any good tips for my weird problem. Maybe I just want to know if there are other people who feel the same way and hear what they do in this situation.
in the last 2 years or so I've taken more and longer breaks
I immediately lose the desire to start the game
I really feel the need to play
Sounds like an addiction and you're having withdrawal. I'm not being cutesy when I say that, it really sounds like you understand that the game is bad for your mental health but you're so used to playing it that not playing it leaves you feeling like there's a hole in your life.
There's no hole in your life. The game is bad for your mental health. Do not force yourself to play it. Do other things, enjoy yourself, treat your time as valuable and don't try to convince yourself that just because you've done something a lot previously means it's worth doing today.

It IS a hostage situation because I have no AGENCY to do anything other than give up. There is no "Tap and do gens" when you're on a map that has minimal surface area and your teammate has chosen to more or less become a statue. You say I have choice. It is not a choice, it is the only option and it disgusts me that I have to be at the beck and call of a Killer taking advantage of an angry teammate.
You literally said it yourself. There is no allowance for playing. I just have to give up and HOW is that right? It is boring and needs to be addressed.HOW is that right?
I didn't say it was right, I said it's not a hostage situation.
It IS a hostage situation because I have no AGENCY to do anything other than give up.
Again, that is not what a hostage situation is. Hostage means you do not have the ability to win or lose as a means to end the match, you have no choice but to disconnect to get out. I've been in actual hostage situations in the game, if I could have shoved myself onto a hook myself to get out of the match I would have.
You may think the definition of "hostage" is up for debate. It is not. The definition of words is important so people can understand each other in a conversation, and it's very important here because an actual hostage situation inside DbD is a reportable/bannable offense. The devs have specifically defined what "hostage situation" means, so it is imperative the phrase not be muddied because that causes confusion in players.
-
If I am in a game with a lose lose situation because a teammate refuses to move and the killer refuses to remove the non-participant when they have a choice in order to force my hand then THEY are holding the game hostage.
A "lose lose situation" does not equal a hostage situation. The killer is trying to win by leaving the easy kill alone and going after the survivor(s) still playing, and you are trying to win by not getting caught. If both players are still playing to win, they are making a choice, it's not a hostage situation. Hostage means one player is not being allowed to play, not being given the ability to win or lose to end the match. You could end the game by forfeiting. You don't have to like that option, but it is your choice.
Just because you do not like the choices available to you does not mean you have no options.
-
I can't remember the last time a survivor who followed me around and body blocked got value out of their DS.
I can remember the last time a survivor disconnected when their DS ran out while they remained on the ground. It's funny in a sad "What did you really expect?" kind of way.
-
The zombies need better ai The zombies need better ai THE ZOMBIES NEED BETTER AI.
For god's sake they endlessly explore empty corners of the map, they get stuck on tile seams. Why are these things still an issue so many years later?
I'm not going to say no to a tentacle buff but that's never been what I've thought Nemmie needed, he needs halfway useful zombies. They're his map-wide pressure and they do fudge all most games.

I've played other games with licensed anime cosmetics, and after the licenses expired the cosmetics never returned. DOA5 had Attack on Titan outfits and arenas, and once the license was up those were removed from the store and never returned.

I much prefer being slugged for pressure (as opposed to slugging for the 4K which sucks) than being tunneled or camped. If I'm slugged for pressure I feel like I'm actually able to play the game which makes the game satisfying win or lose.
As a Killer I do the same and always leave one person up as a minimum. It's great pressure and allows the Survivors to actually have a decent game as well.
always leave one person up as a minimum
Personally, I usually try to leave 2 up, otherwise I've found the final one may go into hiding instead of picking up his teammates. That's based on my own experiences, though. Both as killer and survivor, I usually get matches with at least one survivor who spends the majority of their time hiding.
-
Sadako has bare feet in the movie. It's common for onryo to be barefoot. Kayako is barefoot as well.
-
I have everything except Skilled Huntress, because despite what the text says it still requires 100 downs on PlayStation 4.
-
Yup, experienced this when trying to open the game on PS4. Can't play at all.
Started up just fine on Nintendo Switch, no login problem there.
-
Clown, Spirit, and Blight seem like obvious choices. Dredge would need some tweaks (probably removing Nightfall), but it would be cool to have Dredge in 2v8 so he could locker-teleport over to his partner.

So this is well known, but isn't considered a priority at all? Is the community really just ok with having such a huge disadvantage for playing on console (on top of strictly no keyboard and mouse support)?
I get that we have cross progression now, but that's no excuse to have such inferior versions of the game available on hardware that while somewhat outdated, can run worse than a PC with even lower specs.
Is the community really just ok
No. I and many others have complained about input lag, lack of controller options/settings, and performance issues for years. We are not at all okay with it.
So this is well known, but isn't considered a priority at all?
BHVR have made little if any progress fixing console performance. It mostly just gets worse over time.
-
Worst input lag is when playing on Switch. Input lag is less on PS4. When I play on PC (with a PS4 controller, I do not like using the keyboard), there's practically no input lag.
I have to readjust each time I switch between platforms.

they should make it so u can flex ur rank like older dbd and what aguement? it should require skill at least a bit of skill to reach high rank thats all
This is a highly RNG-based game. The old rank system with de-pipping punished people heavily for a single bad match in which skill may or may not have been a factor. As survivor, your teammates affect whether you live or die more than your own abilities. According to BHVR, MMR is not overly affected by a single match, whereas we saw the old rank system with de-pipping was hugely affected by a single match.
The average player just wants to enjoy the game and earn Bloodpoints. It's not fun when a bad match has a larger impact than just being miserable while it's happening, most people don't want extra punishment on top of that. Region and matchmaking and RNG are all huge factors in how matches go, and most of us understand that and don't feel a need to "flex" a number at the cost of everyone else's enjoyment.
-
I'll be hiding behind an object for a full minute or two,
Wait, what? If you're hiding behind an object for an actual full minute or two, you get AFK crows. You must know that, you've been playing the game for over a year, so what's actually going on in your matches? And why are you hiding for so long instead of working on a gen or being otherwise useful?
Beyond that, survivor auras are revealed constantly throughout the match. As was said earlier, when a gen pops auras of survivors who haven't been caged yet are revealed. If you haven't played killer, you need to do it at least once to understand just how often auras are shown. When I play killer, it's easy to tell survivors have no idea how often their auras are being revealed as they crouch behind stuff like they're in a normal 1v4 match.
-
This game is already full of children and toxic players. Not sure anyone will be able to tell the difference aside from maybe an increase in FNAF posts on the forums.
I know you ended your post with "I would like to know the player's thoughts around this" but I'm just kind of curious why. Are you looking for people to reassure you that it won't ruin DbD? The title of the thread reads like doomsday prophesizing.
Something to keep in mind through all of this: a lot of people brought in by outside licenses to try out DbD end up not liking DbD. I mean really not liking it. The gameplay mechanics are unique and not appreciated by many gamers. New players come in, try survivor, and don't like that they can't fight back. Or they try out killer and feel helpless against four opponents. Or they just don't like the community. DbD has horrible player retention.
-
Don't forget, there have been PTBs with some pretty big changes that then didn't go live. I think they once did a major change to healing speeds that didn't go to the live game. And of course there's the mori finisher/built-in unbreakable test they did. Or there was that PTB where people stacked as many instances of Endurance as possible. If those things had made it to the live game and then had to be removed, it would've been a mess. There are players who would have actually uninstalled the game over some of those, not even exaggerating.
-
Killers are supposed to work together. That's the fun of the mode for killers. There is no other reason for killers to play this mode.
Gens are fast and survivors only have to do 8 to power the exit gates. The killers have to have very fast chases to compete with that. Survivors can still body block for each other. There are 8 survivors, if they want to extended chases then at least a couple can work together the way the 2 killers have to. Plus, there are a metric crap ton of pallets on these maps.

I hope they have some sort of data that told them that there's a higher % of dodging when a high Prestige character is in the lobby, otherwise it would just seem like they implemented this change because some people were complaining about lobby dodging because they were P100 ( I recall a few threads talking about this on the forums) which makes it hilarious.
BHVR did a beta test a while back where some players couldn't see prestiges in the pre-game lobby. So yes, there is actual data.

At no point is raging over BM in DbD worth it or deserved.
I usually don't care if someone BMs. Often, I see it as a sign of "Chase me! Chase me!" which means I'm chasing the wrong person and I need to go target the gen jockeys.
Sometimes I see the BM as just a bit of the game. If they teabag I might nod when I down them, but no matter what I just hook them and go on with the match. I don't tunnel for it: tunneling would give them extra attention, and some part of them would be gloating about how they got under my skin.
I find the BMing survivors in 2v8 hilarious: they teabag or use their flashlight at a pallet and then they're suddenly on the ground because the second killer came up behind them. Beautiful.
I only teabag or flashlight click as survivor if I'm trying to distract the killer to help a teammate or I'm surrendering or something.

I don't think it was always like this, right? Like beyond a year or two ago I don't remember ever having an issue crawling into hatch.
It's been a problem for as far back as I can remember. This is a bug report of mine from 2021:
@TragicSolitude said:
This happens every time I'm in the dying state and try to escape through the hatch. It happens on PS4 and on the Switch. It keeps trying to "Recover" instead of escaping, even when at maximum recovery.
Here's a video of it taking over 20 seconds for me to escape through the hatch today (PS4 Pro):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpJRDU8oWog
Here's a video from a month ago where I couldn't escape through the hatch (PS4 Pro):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPR2j6IdsZM
And here I am spectating another player who takes multiple tries to escape through the hatch (Switch):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-32Iz1tWgGc
Either console needs more key binding options or hatch escape needs to take serious priority over recovery. That 20-some seconds of trying to escape through the hatch today was ridiculous. It requires some kind of exact positioning for it to escape rather than recover, and the dying state doesn't allow for precision control.
Edit: I changed the button for vaulting and throwing down a pallet, that way I don't accidentally throw down a pallet when I'm trying to heal someone. Why is escaping through the hatch not the same button as vaulting and pallet-throwing?
And this post about the issue is from 2019: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/86716/when-on-an-open-hatch-shouldnt-be-prompted-to-heal
-
@HerInfernalMajesty said:
That would work for healing by pallets too. I always drop them on accident.
Healing and dropping a pallet are actually two different types of actions that happen to be bound to the same button. You can change them.
The ones listed in the original post are not able to be bound to different buttons. Like recovering and escaping through the hatch when in the dying state.

Here it is, a video of me getting 32 downs from 24+ meters away today. Just today.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3upiajIRGsThis video doesn't include the downs I was kind of iffy about in terms of their distance. This video doesn't include anything I did yesterday or the day before or any other day in the last 6 years, it's only today.
And no, I still do not have the Skilled Huntress achievement.
Sorry I didn't include a counter in the video; I started to try but it wasn't worth it for something one person (probably just me) will watch.

Then if killers will still be free to lobby shop as much as they want, and BHVR won't make any effort to fix backfill logic, what is the point of this change?
Your logic is that something purely cosmetic and unimportant shouldn't be shown only on the post-game screen because it doesn't completely and totally solve an issue that hurts gameplay.
Removing prestige from the lobby doesn't hurt the prestige-haver when it's still shown on the post-game screen. There's nothing important about showing off prestige, anyway. And it helps lessen a problem that hurts matches and hurts gameplay. Think how awful everything in the world would be if we only implemented solutions that completely solve a problem. Taking steps to lessen a problem is a good thing. When BHVR tested hiding prestige, there was less lobby dodging.
-
The achievement is broken. I got over 20 downs from 24+ meters away. It either still requires 100, it's set to ==20 downs, or it's not registering the downs. I have video proof I'll post later.
Seriously not cool.
-
Self-caring takes precedence over using a key to open the hatch, too.
The recovery issue and the self-care issue have both gotten me killed. I've reported it as a bug and it gets ignored. Drives me nuts.
-
Different framerate, different input lag, the controls feel different. A few barely noticeable differences can have a big impact due to muscle memory and how frame-perfect some things have to be in this game.
I always have an adjustment period when I switch between systems. I mostly play survivor so it's usually skill check timing that I have to totally readjust for.

Not strictly true that survivors do not want to play the mode - there's more survivors than ever in fact
I'd be willing to wager that that's due to the unprecedented BP bonus offered for playing the mode and the fact regular 1v4 is currently lacking any incentive. The actual gameplay is totally uninteresting for survivor IMO.
The actual gameplay is totally uninteresting for survivor IMO.
Yeah, it's either boring because it's just a gen-rushing steamroll or it's depressing because it's a bunch of survivors who don't touch gens and leave you to die. That second kind of match caused me to just turn the game off early last night, I can't take running the killers around for way longer than is reasonable, gens not getting done, and then I die while the people who did so little escape. It's 1v4's problems magnified, but I don't even get to have a lute to jam out with.

It was the goal of the devs in the first place to show dedication to the character with high prestiges update. Nobody cares when it's shown in the endgame screen. And yeah like I said before I don't think prestiges affect "health of the game and quality of matches" much but awful matchmaking system itself, fix matchmaking and you woudn't need to remove prestiges from pre-game lobby, but devs doing band aid fixes as always and it's completely unnecessary. Players who lobby dodged before still gonna do it when seeing player with default skin or low amount of hrs, it's not gonna do anything, people still gonna dodge. And people thinking that "P100 is a cheater or a god or a bully" it's their own problem, I swear people trying to make a problem literally out of everything in DBD, complains about prestiges / distortion etc is perfect example.
people thinking that "P100 is a cheater or a god or a bully" it's their own problem
Yes, but they make their problem everyone's problem when they dodge. It's the people who they dodge who get hurt, and the people who come into the lobby after.
It was the goal of the devs in the first place to show dedication to the character with high prestiges update
I don't know about other players, but I have personally never cared about another player's dedication to a character. My own method of spending Bloodpoints is to put the least amount of Bloodpoints into the characters I like most to avoid high prestiges on them. The characters I dislike are the ones with high prestiges. So, I don't know if another person's high prestige means they love that character or hate it, it's meaningless from my point of view.

From my experience when I not dodging lobbys I still get a new players in my lobby (sometimes even players with 10-100hrs) so it doesn't really matter, it otherwise when you dodge you have a chance sometime to meet decent players in lobby so please fix matchmaking, it's awfully random for quite sometime now and terrible expirience for solo players.
when I not dodging lobbys I still get a new players in my lobby
1.Matchmaking isn't perfect. 2. New players are put somewhere in the middle in terms of MMR, and then they move up/down accordingly. 3. When you dodge a lobby, you're not hurting your own matchmaking, you're hurting the matchmaking of the people you leave behind in the lobby and the people who fill your spot after you've left.
Edit: I should also point out, when you go into a lobby, you might be replacing someone else who dodged. That means you don't match the MMR of the other people in the lobby, both survivors and killer. That's why so many lobbies have such bad matchmaking, because at some point someone dodged and the people who come in after—which could be you and you wouldn't know it—don't belong.

"assume" this is just stupid to think like that, they can assume whatever they want doesn't actually mean that player who hide prestige is P100. Like I said lots of people don't want to hide their P100, that's just show dedecation to the character and nowadays like literally everyone has P100, even new players.
You're putting a desire to show off how you spend your Bloodpoints over the health of the game and the quality of matches.
We know prestige doesn't show skill. However, because prestige is shown in the lobby, many players give it importance simply because it's there and they can see it. They assume the P100 is a cheater or a god or a bully. They assume the P0 is a baby or a smurf. It doesn't matter that they're wrong when it still causes them to dodge lobbies. There is a lot of lobby dodging, and lobby dodging ruins the matchmaking.

Man, I have had so many people burning RPD badges in 1v4 the past couple days. Plus the game keeps sending me there randomly, too. What the hell is up with that.

I'll go after the one who attempts to crouch and not be seen or the one who runs away from useful tiles. Barring either of those, I'll go after who's closest.

I have no idea what I did. They were nodding with a Sable but as soon as they saw me they chased, downed, and caged. Maybe they like Sable but not Bill.

Nice to see someone say that. I come across the blinds-are-an-affront-to-me-and-my-ancestors mindset so much that it seems standard to me. I got three blinds in one match and when the two killers downed me (I was the last survivor) they stood over me ringing their bell and swinging repeatedly as I bled out (totally worth it, I needed those blinds).

Ugh, I hate matches like that. I'm either a nice killer or I play for real, it's not cool to target one/some and be nice with others. I might chase and down if the survivor isn't meme-y in return (nothing personal and I try not to be too aggressive, but it's either that or ignoring them and hey, it's points), but killing is off the table.

I had a Huntress and Wraith let everyone go but me. Not sure what was up with that.
I experienced that same thing. Except, I know why the Wraith chose me. The Huntress was nice, I ran around with her a bit. The Wraith seemed to be playing kinda normal, so I got in a chase with him and attempted a blind (stupid challenges). I totally failed the blind and got downed, but I guess failing wasn't enough and he stayed on me, downed me again, and forced everyone else out before caging me. Yay.
I understand killers wanting me dead when I achieve the blind, but when I'm terrible at chase and terrible at blinds what does it prove to let everyone else go and kill me? Just seemed unnecessary.

The more I play 2v8, the more I can definitively say…
If I'm playing killer, it's survivor-sided.
If I'm playing survivor, it's killer-sided
I'm kinda sorta making a joke, but… also, the matches have been really bad.
Whenever I play killer, the survivors hug the gens and there's no slowing them down. (Yeah, yeah, I know, skill issue. MMR is off, so yeah, I'm not as skilled as the people I'm going against.)
If I'm playing survivor, the lack of MMR does the opposite of what it does when I play killer and teams me up with babies so no one touches gens but me. They fail skill checks constantly, some of them refuse to run from the killer and just stand there and go down, I see a lot of them walking in circles aimlessly, it's absolute misery. I just got out of a match as survivor where everyone except me died at 7 gens left (I popped one, taking it to 6 gens left, just as two dead-on-hook people got caged and then I got hatch). Okay, every once in a while I get survivors who do the gens… and when they do, holy crap it's a steamroll and the killers barely get any cages. And it's not a fun win, either, I just feel bad the killers sat in a long-ass queue for that. The matches being fast would be okay if killer queues and survivor queues were both instant… but that's nearly impossible to achieve, so it's not okay when the matches are fast.
It's pretty bad that as either role I often lose quickly and horribly, which isn't fun, but when I do win (as survivor) it's usually so easy and mindless that that's not fun, either. If you ignore my own bad luck, the mode is survivor sided to a heavy degree because it is mindless and boring to win. If survivors are smart enough to stay on the gen instead of run off just because a killer is busy with two other survivors at a somewhat nearby tile (god, I've had some ohmigod-the-killer's-busy-but-I'm-gonna-RUN-AWAY-and-sacrifice-this-99%-gen teammates today), it's a win. Meanwhile, it takes an anxiety-inducing amount of coordination, skill, and pressure from killers to slow down halfway competent survivors even a little (not talking about getting kills, just slowing them down).

Is that true for you? In my experience and listening to the voices in the forums, 2vs8 needs far more survivors, because survivors are focusing on 1vs4,meaning more Killers are needed there...
Has there been a sudden massive uptick of killers overall with the release of 2vs8? 🤨

People who played survivor in 1v4 solely because it was the only way to play with friends can now play with friends as killer in 2v8, as survivor in 2v8, or still as survivor in 1v4. The survivor pool from 1v4 is now spread around three different queues, and given how 8 survivors are needed for a single 2v8 match, it's difficult to ever fill that hole, but even in 1v4 a small disturbance can have a large ripple effect given 4 survivors are needed for every 1 killer for a single match.
There are a lot of people from both the 1v4 killer queue and the 1v4 survivor queue who now want to play killer in 2v8. That means that even if a lot of people are queueing up as survivor in 2v8, it's going to be hard to balance with how many are queueing up for killer. So, it's not that the survivors are sticking to 1v4 and that's why 2v8 needs more survivors, it's that they're spread around and the balance is severely thrown off across both modes.

As survivor: I was one of the last three survivors. One ended up caged, the other survivor was doing nothing (including not saving the caged guy, I found out), and I was on a gen. I got downed and left, and the killers found the final survivor crouching around doing nothing but collecting birds. Caged guy dies, hatch opens two feet away from me and I get to escape, and the guy who was bird watching gets bled out for a bit and then caged.
As killer: I dunno, the matches kind of blur. There was one match today that went rather poorly, but we managed to down a David running at the open exit gate. Caged him, and then the only survivor left was a Claudette. I went around closing hatches, and I happened to find the third hatch with David caged about two feet away from it. And lo and behold, there's Claudette hopping the window right into me rushing for the save. Closed the hatch, stopped Claudette from rescuing David, his cage moved, and they both died. If I'd been a second or two later, David would've had the perfect hatch escape and Claudette may have been able to make it to an open exit gate.

I loved that event. Some of the most fun I've ever had in DbD. Even my friend liked it, and he hates everything.

Thats a faulty system for dbd, people will just play a survivor match and die as fast as possible
It would have to be a points system based on participation, a combination of things, so the person has to play and be a decent teammate.

Mandy already stated in another threat that there is no shortage on the Survivor side - Player who want to feel and play the new Killer experience won't stop that - even for 1000% BP they wouldn't switch sides, I suppose
Not a shortage, but still a huge imbalance between killer and survivor. XP might convince some players who dislike the long killer queue times to switch. Personally, I haven't enjoyed 2v8 survivor much, so I'm back in the 1v4 queue (which is also not fast, I'm working on other stuff while I wait for matches) to see if I can get the Skilled Huntress achievement to pop. I'd go back to 2v8 survivor for a double XP bonus.
Allowing players to earn points by participating as survivor in 2v8, and those points going towards lessening your wait in the killer 2v8 queue, would also be welcome. As is, trying to play survivor in 2v8 feels like teammate-induced misery roulette with no purpose or reward.

First of all.. you all are over thinking things… it's all about the fun… and when u bust your butt working on unlocking those perks, ya wanna use em… i know i do.. plus… the 2v8 is very survivor sided, if they play correctly.. not to mention, the killers. theres only 2 of them.. if each killer finds 1 survivor and chases them each, that leaves 6, to each work on seperate gens, thats 80% of the work being done at once, while the 2 loopers putz around with the killers, keeping their attention… depending on the situation… if we say for example, 4/8 survivors escape, thats a killer win imo… simply due to the balance of the game supposed to be a 2/4 survival rate in standard…. meanwhile… i get games where both me and the other killer are on the same level (iredescant) and we get a 8man kill, while others, get a 8man out… so to be honest, having the PERKS not addons… (while they would be nice, not neccessary…) would change the dynamic… even if they all had pan res, or OTR… even spine chill… doesn't matter… because it comes down to the actual skill of the players (as the current iteration of 2v8 has already proved)..

As for this ^ nonsense…. i dont even bother knowing what survivor perks do.. other than things like Lithe… stuff that gives them a sprint burst, or seeing my aura… as most killers probably dont bother keeping track of any cooldowns or what people have… they just play…. so this point was moot
as most killers probably dont bother keeping track of any cooldowns or what people have
Assuming that just because you don't keep track that means most killers don't keep track is a poor assumption. Most people learn the game, play both sides, and pay attention to their opponents' strengths and weaknesses. That's part of normal gameplay in any game. It's fine if you personally choose to ignore a large part of the game's mechanics, but I wouldn't consider that the norm.
nonsense
this point was moot
