  • Pessimistic means expecting the worst. I was mostly describing what I have experienced, not what I expect. In terms of expectations, I expect that if it's harder for players to hide all match with Distortion then they will hopefully be forced to participate and either improve or move on to a different game.

Unfortunately, the Distortion-for-hiding-all-match thing is also done by trolls who want to watch the world burn (one of them had a name that actually promised the killer a 3k at 5 gens, not joking, when I realized that I was mad at myself for not paying attention to the lobby), so it's not just about needing to improve. I have no fix for that, as players will always find ways to troll their teammates. That might be a bit pessimistic in terms of expectations of player behavior, but I think that's the case with most multiplayer games and something devs are supposed to take into account when designing gameplay mechanics.

I don’t have a problem with Distortion as killer or survivor so no dogs in the fight but I am curious. When those players still don’t engage the killer or they’re downed in 6 seconds will you two be back on the forums complaining about how you can’t escape trials because other survivors can’t last in chase?

I already don't survive most matches. A large number of my teammates go down in about five seconds as is, there won't be any change there. But the majority of survivors running Distortion right now in my matches do nothing but hide along the edges. If anyone escapes, it's them, through a hatch, because by not participating they've ensured 5 gens won't get done and everyone else will die. Those are my Distortion-running teammates, and I'm sick of it. They'll never get better at anything because they don't try, they don't participate. The ones who go down five seconds in a chase will either hopefully get better over time or move to a different game.

I am terrified of going for this achievement. I just watched my friend going for it get stalled out for 30 minutes by a TTV Bill solely so he could not get it. He had to rely on a bot existing, tunnelling people out, and all sorts of exceedingly nasty gameplay to get it. He does not have Iron Maiden on Myers, either. It took him FIVE HOURS.

All while Survivors could easily control whether or not he got the achievement by simply jumping into lockers, doing any sort of animation, or forcing bleedouts. We all get it, tombstone is annoying, but I promise y'all ain't nobody running tombtuft for fun. Tombtuft takes forever to set up and feels cheap. The Myers doing it isn't having a good time, and has probably been doing this achievement for a while, all while Survivors can forcibly control if he can get it or not by simply going in a locker. What sense does that even make?

This achievement isn't any fun for anyone. Please, please change it BHVR. Make it so many moris across multiple games, or make it Mori-ing with Myers in Tier III period. Please whenever you do fix Myers, change this godawful achievement so it's not so easy to forcibly control whether or not someone can get it.

I promise y'all ain't nobody running tombtuft for fun

This is incorrect. I've gone mostly against Tombstone Myers who were just doing it for fun. My friend and I will give ourselves to a Tombstone if we have fun or decide we like the Myers, and many Myers have turned down Tombstoning us. Why? They didn't need the achievement.

Jumping into lockers to deny the Tombstone is still cheap and needs to be fixed, though. Once there are three birds on a locker, the entity should kick the survivor out and block all lockers for a few seconds or something. (Edit: If there's only one survivor left.)

All they gotta do is make it so you earn stacks through chases and just adjust the numbers so you can get the stacks back through a respectable amount of time. It's all it needs really, doing so will greatly incentivize people to engage with the killer so they aren't sitting on gens all much hogging up the hook states.

^ This. Distortion as it is is unhealthy. It helps you hide and you regain stacks by hiding, encouraging a one-note gameplay style that hurts the team. I'm tired of having Distortion-using teammates who hide around the edges of the map and are totally useless. Distortion should regain stacks when in chase. Engaging with the killer is an important part of the game.

the survivor isn't the one holding the game hostage in this scenario, the myers is. The survivor is dead either way Myers is the one not acting on it.

You are wrong. Devs have clarified that it is not holding the game hostage on either side:

    @Peanits said:

As Rizzo mentioned, we don't discuss the specifics of someone's ban in public, but I want to hop in and clarify a couple general things.

First, I can confirm that this is not a bannable offense and not something we would ban for. In this scenario, both players were able to move around freely and end the standoff at any point. The Survivor is not required to leave the locker and let the Killer kill them, and the Killer is not required to grab the Survivor out of the locker and hook them, but neither of them were stuck in the match by any means. Nobody commited a bannable offense, both chose to waste their own time.

Secondly, when you receive report feedback, it's simply to let you know that action was taken against a player you reported. It does not mean that your report specifically was what led to the ban. For example, if the same person had said something hateful in another match, they may have been banned for that instead, but you'd still receive the feedback popup. This way, nobody who reported that person is left in the dark just because they weren't the first to report them.

We do not act on non-reportable offenses, but the report feedback is automated and can't tell the difference. When in doubt, please consult the game rules to see if something is reportable.

another question that is also quite popular, if we are having locker standoff between Tombstone Myers and survivor in locker, is it also considered not taking the game hostage if survivor doesn't want to give Myers a mori kill and Myers doesn't wanna grab them from locker?

This has been answered by a dev, clarifying that it is not holding the game hostage:

  • It's very much too dark, now. On PS4 and Switch, it's extremely difficult to navigate the inside areas even in normal conditions. You can't even enjoy the fun stuff in the dungeon anymore: it's so dark you have to be on top of the monster to get a glimpse of it, and it's still mostly hidden in shadow. Sucks.

  • I've had matches that ended really quickly because the killer was a cheater or my teammates farmed me where I had a matchmaking lock afterwards, too. I was not amused.

I would also like to know how and why this is a thing.

  • Lightborn is my favorite perk. I don't have to slug to avoid flashlight saves and then worry about Flip Flop, I don't have to leave someone to bleed out if there are no walls, and I don't get screwed by unavoidable flash bangs. I run Lightborn 100% of the time. No flashlights in the lobby? Don't care, I still have Lightborn on.

  • Unless I'm right next to a hook, Boil Overs get slugged. It's what they want, it's what they get. And if it's not what they want, why the hell are they running that perk, that was a bad call on their part.

  • I bring it for the memes. My friend and I will pull out our lutes at the same time like a little band and perform for the killer. Some are amused by it.

I don't expect to be allowed to live for doing it, though. Hell, I used Plot Twist to get a Dracula to mori me when he shook his head no lol.

  • If you can convince the license holders of Attack on Titan to let DbD sell the cosmetics again, please also get them to let DOA5 have the Attack on Titan cosmetics and arenas back, too.

It was in the replies to the tweet.

  • It's not just you. The lower levels got darker in this last update. Much darker. Way too dark. I can hardly see a damn thing down there. Sucks, because I really liked the dungeon area, but it might as all well be untextured random polygons for as much as I'm able to enjoy it now. Plus, it's super hard to navigate. God forbid you need to think quickly or anything while moving about.

I'm on Switch and PlayStation 4. The problem exists on both platforms.

  • It's 100. It says 20, but it's 100. I recorded video of myself getting over 50 downs (yes, meeting the proper requirements), and the achievement still has not popped for me.

BHVR has known about the issue for months. This is the bug report:

    @FixSkiledHuntresPS4 said:

The Skilled Huntress Trophy is bugged and doesn't match the number the trophy asks for, this also applies to the PS5 version!

Steps to reproduce: Get 20 downs with hunters further than 24 meters, the trophy will NOT activate but will after 100.

    How often: All the time.

  • I experienced this issue again today. My friend and I were against Dracula on Ormond. He would activate the perk but instead of playing the lute it just went into cooldown. I was able to play the lute in that match, but my friend couldn't see me do it, to him it looked like I was just standing there doing nothing.

  • Are you talking about strafing? Because if so, no. No no no. He's the one killer with any sort of ranged attack I can play on console and it's only because of the strafing. DbD's controls suck so much I have to use the strafe to adjust my aim to hit even the zombies.

I would give up all his new buffs in a heartbeat before I ever give up the strafing.

If by "drag" you mean something else other than strafing, then… I dunno.

  • Set the zombie apocalypse in motion. Change into a better outfit. See just what my tentacle can do. (Nemesis)

I feel like you arent understanding the macro of this decision though and thinking only about the lobby dodge. This creates more problems then solves.

What will happen now, and is happening, is more people giving up. A problem that is already large enough to begin with.

Load into a game with someone lasting 4 seconds in chase, where you would recognize that happening because they are 0 prestige?

Too bad you get stuck with someone that has p0 or only their teachables.

Load into a game with an Adept David? I guarantee the first time he gets downed hes giving up on hook, or someone else is, OR BOTH!. (Which happened today, so wonderful)

Or the example i gave with sable above.

I would beable to spot this crap in the lobby and get out of there.

I dont want to play with them though. And I am entitled to actual teammates.

But prestige has nothing to do with skill. I have a ton of low prestige survivors (I used to have no-prestige survivors before cross-progression) and also some who are in the 30s. I don't play differently depending on which character I choose.

Lobby dodging means the person who gets put into the lobby to fill the new empty spot doesn't belong there. The three survivors remaining, the new survivor, and the killer all are now going to experience a worse match for it. One or more of the survivors may give up. The person who dodged for their singular gain has possibly ruined the experience for five people.

If people do not lobby dodge and we let matchmaking work as intended, then hopefully matches will have better matchmaking and people's MMR will adjust properly so they're in matches more suited to their skill level. When people pick and choose their matches, it breaks the matchmaking. If matchmaking does have problems that need fixing, it will be easier for the devs to locate those problems if people in the match are all actually in the same MMR bracket.

What will happen now, and is happening, is more people giving up. A problem that is already large enough to begin with.

People have been giving up in the game a lot, there have been numerous threads about it, and those threads started before the new patch with prestiges hidden went live. I haven't seen any sort of increase since the update. Hell, it was really bad the last few weeks; I think I actually experienced fewer quitters yesterday and today.

  • I've had this happen against the Doctor but also against a different killer. It happened against Dracula because our teammate wouldn't let us pick her up out of the dying state, and right after we tried and she stopped us me and my friend both had a period of time during which we kept hearing the skill check sounds even though we were freely walking around.

We also, numerous times today, had instances where we were totally unable to heal either each other or a teammate.

    Platforms: PlayStation 4 and Switch

  • @ChuckingWong said:

Does it necessarily correlate to someones prestige? No but..

    christ.

At least I had something to go off when I see a p0 or p1-3 in my lobby and a key in their hand.

Here I just got lucky enough to spot them last second swap in the lobby.

Again prestige isnt everything I get it, but we need information like the example I gave or SOMETHING so you arent put into a match where you would actually PREFER to have a bot on your team.

You are entitled to 4 people on your team. Not 3 and a person hiding in basement all round.

This problem is separate from showing prestige. Showing more information in the lobby is also not the solution. We need fewer people lobby dodging. Lobby dodging ruins the match for the people left in the lobby and for the person who fills the empty slot.

The problem is the game's design. I have never played any other game where not playing was considered a playstyle by a large number of its players. Players shouldn't be able to spend all match doing nothing but hiding. I have been complaining about this for years, that multiple times a day I get teammates who do nothing but hide from moment one. Lobby dodging is not the answer. The devs need to fix the game so survivors have to participate.

Oh I misunderstood then. I don't see why that's an issue. But maybe BHVR could not remove it from lobbies without removing it from everything. It could all be the same code.

    Oh I misunderstood then.

There have been so many other threads where people still want prestige shown to "flex" on strangers or so lobby dodging can continue that it's easy to misread this particular post.

It could all be the same code.

Personally, I believe this is probably the case, that elements of the SWF lobby share the same code as the pre-match public lobby and it would take a bit (or a lot) of extra coding to make them behave differently. It would be nice if BHVR did it, though.

  • @GonnaBlameTheMovies said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3788690#Comment_3788690

But your friends can see it in the endscreen anyway, why do SoloQers need to see my prestige? Why does the Killer?

There are three areas where prestige could be seen. The first area is the invite lobby. You could also call it the pre-lobby lobby. It's where SWF hang out and wait to get into the second area where prestige was shown, a pre-match lobby. The pre-match lobby is public, it's where you'll be grouped with other unknown players and the killer. Finally, prestige is/was shown on the end game screen.

The original poster wants people's prestiges shown in that first area. The area where only friends can see it. They have clearly stated they do not want it shown in the general public lobby where solo players and killers could see it.

I've been playing alucard all evening with bardic inspiration. It seems to "work" most of the time (still only applying the effect for 15 seconds) but it's happened twice for me now where it just breaks and only activates its cooldown. Not sure if it's relevant or not, but both times for me happened on lery's. It seemed to activate normally at the begininng of the match (did the animation, got the effect briefly) but something causes it to go wrong afterwards. I was wondering if it was because the animation was interrupted both times for me, and then later in game i realised I couldn't use it.

When it refused to work for my friend and I, it happened to both of us from the start of the match from the very first attempt. So, the interruption may have caused it in your case, but it's not the only thing causing the bug.

  • @ShanoaLegendaryPlz said:

Step 1: play as any survivor except alucard (perk is extra broken for him) step 2: try to use the bardic inspiration perk, it will only apply the 15 second buff as if the song was not completed, even if completed the 90 second buff never applies. Step 3: playing as alucard trying to use bardic inspiration canceles out the animation and does not activate the perk, but instead activates its cooldown

Step 3: playing as alucard trying to use bardic inspiration canceles out the animation and does not activate the perk, but instead activates its cooldown

This happened to both me and my friend while playing as Trevor. We were together on Nostromo. Every single attempt we made to use Bardic resulted in the immediate activation of the cooldown.

  • The fps on Switch has taken a nosedive. It not only feels bad in general, but it makes skill checks a lot more difficult.

  • In the pre-lobby lobby for SWF, it should be visible. Once you're in the pre-game lobby with strangers, then no, prestige should be hidden.

Most players do not care about prestige other than as a way to judge another's skill level. No, prestige does not equal skill, and we all know that, but people will judge anyway. Lobby dodging and backfill ruin matches for everyone. A survivor dodging a properly matchmade lobby and leaving an open spot that gets filled with someone who doesn't belong in that MMR bracket is all it takes for a match to be ruined.

  • The game needs an actual gamma/brightness/contrast setting. Some games have a calibration system that helps all players be on the same page in terms of visuals. DbD needs that. The game's darkness is nowhere near the same across different screens. The game looks one way on my PC and a different way on Switch handheld and a different way on Switch docked to my TV and a still different way on PS4. It's not the same at all, and the people who act like I'm asking for in-game cheats drive me nuts. For some reason my laptop screen is just too damn dark, even with brightness turned up to max, and I have to connect it via HDMI to my TV so I have a better chance of seeing things and it's still too dark but at least it's not quite as dark.

If the brightness/darkness in the game is so important, as everyone says, and it's used for balancing, then why isn't their a calibration system in the game so it's actually consistent? Does BHVR want those dark corners to be pitch black voids where survivors disappear in plain view? Am I supposed to be completely blind in the basement so I can't even find the chest? Are these the intended visuals or not? How am I supposed to know?

  • Fog and particle effects need serious work in this game. I prefer maps with less fog and smoke and fire and dust particles because then the game performs better. I can play the game like someone with more than an hour's playtime when I can actually hear it, and I can't hear it when the PS4 fans are going at jet-engine speeds unless I turn my headphones up to ear-bleeding volumes.

BHVR needs to either tone down all their silly atmospheric VFX or they need to add a separate setting beyond simply "Graphics quality" and let people choose "VFX quality" (other games do it, and it's freaking fantastic). Less fog is a start, but it's not nearly enough.

  • They need to get rid of more of the fog and all the particle effects. You wanna know one of the reasons this game runs poorly for so many people and why it makes PlayStation fans sound like jet engines? It's the particle effects like fog and smoke and the little specks of dust floating in the air.

BHVR could at least let people turn it off or put the particle effects on a "low" setting like Lords of the Fallen lets me do. It's lovely having particle effects separated from the rest of the graphics options in the settings menu.

There still needs to be better definition around what constitutes "holding the game hostage". Maybe I missed it (someone please post if it exists somewhere), but I have never seen the devs clearly define what actions are considered "holding the game hostage" and it seems unfair to have something that subjective be a banable offense. Just make a bullet point list of things that would be included like:

    • Killer body blocking survivor that prevents free movement of survivor for X number of seconds
    • Survivors not progressing generators for X number of minutes
    • Survivors abusing map bugs to be unreachable by killer for X number of seconds
    • Other examples (I think the three above are by far the most common situations) with actual quantifiable definitions so that it's not such a gray area
    hostage-eqwashu-2024-08-23.png screenshot-20210501-121148.png screenshot-20210501-121159.png

The devs will never specify length of time because they don't want to give people who are breaking the rules a way to circumvent getting in trouble for it.

I had a game a couple days ago where two Sables managed to convince a GF to farm. I don't like farming, but the third survivor seemed okay to go along with it. I motioned to the killer that I wanted out and he tried to get me out, but the Sables were painful about it and tried to get me to stay. They were starting to behave a bit trollish. GF managed to get them to back off and I let go on hook. Out of curiosity, I spectated to see if they'd turn on the third survivor and sure enough, they had cornered her and kept pointing for the GF to down her. He did, but when they started tbagging her, he Exposed and downed the Sables then hooked them both lmao I wish more killers were like that. He was willing to mess around but when they started BMing he was having none of it. Thankfully I don't come across these sorts of trolls often.

    Killers like that are great.

I had a match against a 3-man SWF once. They were memeing, ran appraisal builds and made a shrine of items in the basement. It was cute. I was friendly. But they weren't nice to the random, and at one point there were noise notifications and I discovered them all with birds as they body blocked her so she couldn't move. I bled the SWF out. The random remained wary of me, but she ran over for a moment to teabag at them before running back off. I left her alone, she got hatch.

That was a good while ago now, but it sticks out in my mind because it was so baffling. I don't understand why the SWF couldn't just be decent. Solo q is bad enough without having 3 teammates gang up on you.

In my experience, it has always been my teammates more than the killer who make matches unfun. Killers are sunshine and puppy dogs compared to the absolute misery survivors can rain down on each other.

  • Why does BHVR not take advantage of the d-pad for these killers? Controllers have a d-pad, killers don't use it at all, let us make quick selections for Vecna and Knight and all by allowing immediate selection with a single press of a directional button. No scrolling, no clumsy menus, just a single button press.

Look at Vecna. Four options. Look at the d-pad, it lines up perfectly with it. So why are we forced to open up the selection screen and use its clumsy interface when the d-pad is right there?

  • I personally got all of my killers to P3 to unlock their tier 3 perks on everyone. Now that they're all P3, I'm getting some of them to P6 for their bloody outfits. Beyond that it is completely pointless to prestige and I just choose a random character to put my extra Bloodpoints into when I reach the cap.

There's no good reason to burn yourself out grinding for P100. The number of survivors who look at a P100 killer and think "Wow, they must really love that character, how cool," are outnumbered a million to one by the number of survivors who judge every mistake you made 5000x harsher because you're P100. It's a lot more embarrassing to have a bad match as a P100 player than as a P3.

  • There's a bug report you can upvote:

  • Why aren't there more safeguards in place to prevent this from happening? It's not an uncommon problem, there have been people having this issue since the first day cross-progression dropped. There should be password confirmations and warnings before anything irreversible is done. People can lose hundreds of dollars if the wrong account is linked.

Every time I link and merge a platform account I have anxiety through the freaking roof that I'm somehow going to mess up and link the wrong account. I'm not exaggerating, there's so much time and money that could be lost with a simple mistake. I hate it.

  • You can open a support ticket to find out for sure if there's anything at all that can be done:

    https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Response time varies, it can be a few days or I've had to wait multiple weeks.

  • You'll have to open a support ticket:

    https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Response time is often very slow, just to warn you. Sometimes I get a response in a few days and sometimes it takes multiple weeks. But they do respond.

  • @Mandy said:

The 60 day wait was something that was only the case before Cross-Progression was implemented, it no longer applies.

Wait, I thought accounts only couldn't be unlinked if cross progression was actually acitvated? That's what the FAQ stated for a while even after cross-progression was released.

So, if a platform account is added to your BHVR account in any way whatsoever, that's permanent?

Edit: I just want to add, if that's the case, that's really bad. PlayStation login has been broken on PC since before cross-progression went live. There's a "Can't connect to the server. (18.f16ac917.1724794012.7cd904c4)" for everyone. This makes it very easy for something to go wrong when trying to link a PlayStation account to a BHVR account. I understand not being able to unsync accounts, but not being able to fix it when an incorrect account is linked is seriously awful.

Nintendo accounts aren't very friendly for linking, either. They don't show usernames/account details.

I never ignore bots as Killer. They will absolutely do generators and hit every good (if not great] skillcheck. I tunnel them out asap.

I go after bots or real players, but not both. If there's an early game bot I rarely consider it a "real" match anymore. I usually go after the bot instead of the actual players. They can farm or help me kill the bot, I like that, but I don't want to punish them for staying to play the game. Plus, the bots can be real pains in the ass if they have decent tiles to loop (not to mention finding it in the first place, those scaredy cats), so killing one can eat up a lot of my time.

As survivor, I like the times when a killer has hooked a bot and we all stand around watching like we're performing a human sacrifice. My friend and I will pull out our lutes, too. Kumbaya, Entity.

  • I learned not to be a sore winner when I was a kid. One of my favorite Berenstain Bears books taught me that.

A freaking children's book, man. I think people are exposed to too much Twitch and TikTok these days, not enough written media. Reading fiction is good for learning empathy, but not enough people do it. People read non-fiction to learn about the world or for self-improvement, but it's not the same thing.

  • Only if the killer doesn't know who's the real player and who are the bots. I've quit matches because the only teammates left are bots and the killer completely ignores them.

The bots would need to be a little bolder, too, able to takes risks and put themselves out there to take aggro. Less selfish, better team players, since a big part of the reason solo q sucks is because there are no team players left outside SWF.

  • I should also mention, I haven't been able to log in to my PlayStation account through my PC for months. I have to log in to my PlayStation account through my phone, for some reason the mobile version of the website works.

  • When you unlink an account, there's a 60-day wait before you can add a new account on that same platform. There is also a 60 day wait period to add the platform account you unlinked to a different BHVR account.

  • Not necessarily permanent, but cycle through some of those modes. Each week a mode is live for two days. Change up which days of the week after each cycle (so it's not always the same day, as some people can only play on certain days). Give people options without burning them out or causing long-lasting queue imbalances.
