  • Yeah, she's not the OP killer she was, but some people still push that narrative. The addition of directional sound was a real game changer for her, and now I have to get a lot more creative when playing Spirit. The big advantage she used to have is tha were was little way of knowing when she was phasing, but that has been mitigated a ton. She's still good, but not worth of the instant DCs you used to see.

IMO, a lot of her power now is tied to add ons, and until you build up a bit of a war chest of her best items, it might be kind of hit or miss.

Of course I play at a disadvantage in that I can only hear out of one ear, so a lot of her sound based play doesn't work that well for me.

"Comms doesn't give any gameplay advantage"

    "X streamer said [...] / did an experiment, so it's true/false "

Yeah, experiments run by players with 7K+ hours aren't that applicable to the player base at large. I'd be interested to see some of these experiments run with actual randomly chosen groups of players.

  • On one that was mentioned earlier - I legitimately use BBQ only for the BP. I think BBQ is one of those perks where it is so meta that everyone assumes every killer is running it, so they duck into lockers or line themselves up behind a gen after pickups.

I run it constantly and rarely actually see auras. If the grind wasn't so brutal I'd never run it. Same with We're Gonna Live Forever on the survivor side.

I would've been, well, not alive when it started and pretty young when it ended.

I was informed that she never really uses a weapon in the movie. I wonder how that's going to work? I can't really see her slashing at people like Demogorgon or punching them like Nemesis

You should watch the movie, for sure.

And no, she doesn't use a weapon in the usual sense, so it'll be interesting to see how it is portrayed/adapted. My guess is it'll be a transmission/infection type attack, or something psychokinetic.

Yeah, I'd never even heard of that before it was announced and I definitely wouldn't have known that there was a Japanese version either.

I could see an argument for Candyman being less well-known.

However, Hellraiser has a cult following and I've seen some stuff posted about reviving the series or something so I was familiar with it a bit. RE and Silent Hill are/were huge franchises that I most certainly was familiar with when I was growing up. I even remember the horrible Silent Hill movies getting ads on TV. TCM is pretty much considered the father of Slashers and is a classic.

It seems like from my research of The Ring is that it was released at a poor time. The concept doesn't really make sense anymore and it seems like the novelty wore off pretty fast. Seems like something my parents would like tho

The Ring/Ringu was exceedingly successful for a horror movie at the time. There was a boom from like 1998 - 2010 for Asian/Asian style horror (and what were generally poor American remakes, a trend in which The Ring was an exception), and the Ring was at the forefront of it.

I don't think it's a stretch to say The Ring/Ringu is one of the most noteworthy/iconic horror properties of the last 25 years. Samara/Sadako coming out the TV is one of the creepiest and most enduring horror images of all time, imo.

I might agree that it is better known than Candyman, except the recent Candyman movie has pushed it back into the Meta, and you know, recency bias.

I am excited and nervous about this chapter, and I want so badly for it to live up to the source material as well as pioneer some new mechanics, but BHVR hasn't inspired confidence recently.

I also think Candyman has massive potential to be a really cool killer, but that's another discussion.

    Extremely well said, my friend.

It is not surprising for BHVR to completely ignore one of the most important aspects of the game, but they really need to fix that ASAP (another item on that "fix" list which is probably bigger than a titan by now).

The Fog was not on its absolute best when I started playing, but it was still WAY better then...than whatever the hell currently is there.

Bringing the actual Fog back is a huge necessity.

I have not been playing long enough to have experienced the proper fog, but I have seen it in clips.

I think they should either return it to its former glory or do away with it (and the offerings) altogether. The "fog" now is just wisps, at most, and have no effect on gameplay.

Well clearly you never actually played a fnaf game if you say it has zero elements besides jumpscares. I think we all dont really care about the jumpscares, its more so the buildup. None of them look cartoony (besides fnaf world obviously) and springtrap is the definition of a dbd killer. He is a murderer that had something really ######### up happen to him and now he is forever stuck in this world. Thats literally perfect for dbd. And also people say he doesnt fit in the gane while we have trickster, mr. Puddles, and even Christmas skins. And if he was in dbd i will garuntee that jumpscares wouldnt be apart of him at all because that would be stupid.

Skins are not a full killer, so people citing Mr. Puddles and the Legion mascot skins as examples to justify Springtrap is a big swing and a miss.

And yes, I am busted, I never played much FNAF. But I have seen all of the games played through (except the new one, which is by all accounts a steaming pile), and been subjected to more Markiplier fnaf vids than anyone should ever have to be. So I am familiar.

One common trap people fall into is the inability to wrap their head around the notion that someone could be familiar with a thing that they love, but hate it. Believe it or not, but people can know a ton about fnaf and still not be able to take it seriously.

A what constitutes "deep" is subjective, and I think fnaf is as deep as the kiddie pool. I promise you that what seems deep or profound changes as you age, though that can get clouded by nostalgia (see Star Wars).

But if Springtrap ends up in the game, I'll live. I won't buy him, and will actively cringe when I go against him, but I'll keep on keeping on.

My opposition is mostly based in my belief that there are many, many more deserving options out there.

But trying to set my biases aside, I just don't think it will happen, for reasons outside of those argued about here.

  • A lot of people say things like "grade doesn't mean anything" or something similar earlier about the purple perks.

But the thing about grade is, and even moreso having a wide array of tier 3 perks, is that they are correlated positively with playtime, and experience/playtime is the strongest corollary of skill.

So while not airtight by any means, these things do mean something. If you go against a team or player who has unlockable tier 3 perks, odds are good that said player is not a potato, at the very least.

  • A lot of people who accuse killers of hacking simply aren't familiar with all the killers, their powers, bloodlust, etc. There are a TON of legit variables with killers that make things seem sus if you aren't familiar with them.

Heck, I have played over 1500 hours and I am pretty certain I don't have it all down 100%.

With survs, it's easier to pick hacking out because they are all essentially re-skins of each other, so a lot less potential for odd variances.

Reason #987678 to play relatively even amount of both sides; ignorance can make you look silly.

Yeah good point, streamers really effect what people think. Many people think DbD is survivors sided because of killer main streamers. I think they should play survivor instead of relying on streamers' opinions.

I watch most of the really big DBD killer main streamers, and most of them seem to maintain a view that the game is relatively balanced, so I am not sure I agree with the notion that streamers are driving the "the game is soooo survivor sided" narrative.

Maybe some smaller ones, but I'm not seeing it.

On aggregate the game favors survivors (IMO), but it's nuanced. And the survivor role is undeniably less stressful. That said, the "OMG playing killer is so miserable, it's unplayable" meta is definitely overblown. I play killer the way I like to, and I have fun most of the time (though less than I used to, and until string together a few 4Ks and end up in a bad neighborhood).

But as you rise in MMR, the killer game definitely gets way less fun. I could/can still win consistently, but I have to play in such a way that it just saps all the fun out of it. And my win condition isn't strict; if I get 3+ kills or even just 8-10 hooks, I feel like got what I wanted out of a match) The "strength" of the killers isn't the large issue (though like 20 of the killers lose their viability at high MMR), it's that it's becoming less fun due to enhancements to the survivor side.

Like I can still win against a boon healing squad, but I have to abandon any sort of a "hit and run" playstyle, otherwise I risk full reset. There are lots of examples like that which push many killers toward unpopular playstyles, and then surv mains cry when the formula isn't followed, or DC and waste everyone's time. And the relatively binary MMR has exacerbated all of that, with people chasing that invisible ranking.

High MMR play sucks out loud, especially for killers (which is why I drop back down when I get into sweatlord territory).

Outside of the design issues, the biggest problem is that we have a mix of people who just and to have fun, and people to mistakenly think the game can be some sort of skill based competition, and that can make for a really uneven experience.

But at the end of the day, fewer and fewer people are playing killer, and there has to be a reason for it. People who love playing killer don't just quit/switch because the meta told them to.

Judging by their latest killer designs, She is just going to be another anti loop killer that has no counterplay.

All the killers have counterplay, at least since the Spirit was nerfed, just not always the boilerplate counterplay many survs feel entitled to. And the anti-loop killers can actually still be looped, if you're really determined (and good enough).

They don't need to go back to standard killer design, they need to go even more different. I like being kept on my toes. What that looks like, I can't say, I don't get paid to design killers.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2807011#Comment_2807011

Yep, this is my fear as well. Just another Anti-Loop Killer.

And Killers will complain about Survivors holding W, because there is nothing else to do against a Killer which cannot be looped.

    @Topic:

I think she will have a Teleport, but I dont know if it will be with fixed Wells. Because a Teleport with fixed Locations might not be that good (Freddy has it as well, but at least he is at a Gen after teleporting, aka most likely close to a Survivor).

Maybe another timed power, representing the Videotapes in the movie. So maybe a hybrid between Demo/Freddy and Pig.

I just hope that she does not have an Anti-Loop Power, because there were too many of those Killers lately and removing the skillful part of playing Survivor (which is Looping and chaining structures) is not really good. I dont want to play another Killer where I just get Survivors because we both hold W and I am faster than them (which makes Artist unfun for me to play - I place a crow at a Loop, the Survivor leaves the Loop and this will be repeated until I get the Down..).

I HOPE for a Mobility-Killer since those are more fun to play against and to play as (at least for me). But I dont think it will be very fitting.

I think the Artist is fun as hell. Not so much closing off loops (really good survs can still loop her to an extent), but the crow sniping. It is its own spin on the projectile killer, but takes more nuance.

I really just want something that doesn't involve chasing a surv across the map, or doing the same tired dance around tiles I've done thousands of times with thousands of survivors, and somehow always feels the same.

  • I'm hoping it's something really different and unexpected. I figure wells and teleporting is a given, but I'd like to see BHVR get really creative, because the standard mechanics (looping and W holding) are as dull as dishwater. Not optimistic, but this seems like an opportunity to do something unconventional.

Agree on some of that list.

Chucky would be awesome. The game needs Chucky. ######### anyone who disagrees.

I enjoyed Hatchet and Hatchet II as a kid, but they're admittedly mediocre. I'm not opposed to having Victor as a killer, though, and Leslie Vernon would be cool, too. That said, if they're expanding to B-movie slashers, I'd rather see Chromeskull or Art the Clown than either of the aforementioned.

Predator, Shining, Leprechaun, and American Psycho don't feel very DBD; I agree on that. Springtrap doesn't feel right at all and is my least favorite on that list.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2806885#Comment_2806885

Dracula and Pennywise are must-haves for the game eventually.

I'm actually reading Who Goes There? (the novel that The Thing was based on) right now. It'd only work if the killer could duplicate one of the survivors somehow, which would have to be thought out a good deal, but it'd make for some genuinely scary games if they managed it.

Yeah, the mechanics of the Thing would take a lot of creative thought to make work in game; not sure it could be done. The defining characteristic would have to involve mimicking other survivors, but how to do that without making it OP would be a trick.

Only allow you to mimic a survivor not currently in the match?

Not show the red stain until you are within a certain radius?

Only be able to mimic for short periods?

Lots of possibilities, not sure how many are feasible.

  • Not directed a me, but I'll take a shot at some I would rather see:

Not likely for legal reasons, but have to get it out of the way because he is THE remaining killer that should be in the game - Jason Voorhees

    The Xenomorph (Alien)

    Pennywise

    Candyman

    The Thing

    Dracula (or similar vampire variant)

Kayoko (Ju-on, but probably not now as three J-Horror ghost-type killers will be enough)

    A Western mythology demon

Valak (The Nun, or another from the Conjuring tree)

    Pumpkinhead (anyone remember that?)

The Fly or some manner of insect/humanoid hybrid

If we making a non-addition wish list, a proper overhaul of Ghostface to bring him in line with the movies (Billy/Stu), along with survivors. And an overhaul of Myers to make him into what he should be (not a low tier-killer).

Yeah the most people might see it through some nostalgic lenses but is that something bad? I heard more then one time since I play dbd that many people were down for Scooby-Doo skin for the original 4 survivors and that would be kinda strange to but on the other hand really awesome cause bhvr can make it in there own art style and then they lose that comic feeling that makes them not scary same goes for springtrap. A rotting corps trapt in an animatronic in dbds style sounds great in my book

Nostalgia can be bad in that it makes you see something as good when it isn't. And it's not (IMO).

Another reason I personally don't want to see it is that the list of better options is really, really long.

But hey, these things are subjective. If someone sees FNAF as truly scary, more power to them. I can't wrap my brain around it, but everyone is entitled to like what they like. But to me it would be completely out of place in DBD.

If BHVR wants to make a DBD Jr., Springtrap and the Scooby Doo crew, that would be great for some nostalgic kicks.

  • First, you're NTA.

Second, last second switchers = total abandonment of etiquette. Get ready for tunneling, camping and slugging.

  • @WesCravenFan said:

Can someone explain to me what is so bad about Springtrap? Granted, I only ever played one of his games but it is a legit horror game. I think the lore fits just fine with DBD.

    What exactly is the issue?

FNAF is a pure jumpscare generator with zero substantive psychological horror elements. I resent it like I resent movies that lean only on jumpscares for their "horror". And though Springtrap is the least so, all the killers therein are cartoonish and virtually impossible to take seriously on their own merit.

Given the primary demographic for DBD are adolescents, and many of them were fans of FNAF when they were kids, it's understandable they they view the games and its characters through a nostalgic lens, and as better and deeper than they actually were. Kind of like gen X'ers and Star Wars (let's see how many people I can piss off, lol).

DBD bringing in FNAF would be like the Simpsons/Family Guy crossover, or putting Goosebumps in a compilation of the masters of horror. Selling off the last vestiges of your dignity in the name of broadening your audience.

    JMHO.

I only had it happen once and it was with a bubba and it was on rpd and I had a friend who had deja vu and I got down a second the third gen popped somewhere around 90 seconds as I got that challenge done like unlss you get rpd and know the map or are God tier at looping you're not going to be looping 3 gens lol

The biggest variable in the equation is the killer.

I can say with certainty that I will NEVER be looped for 3-5 gens. Not because I am some god (I am absolutely not), but because I will drop chase ages before it gets to that point. I have been overmatched in chase numerous times, occasionally they screw up and I get them quickly, the majority of the time I bail.

Which is why I am particularly amused by people who say they do this at high MMR; no remotely competent killer would allow themselves to be run for that long.

In such scenario the killer needs to be tilted enough to get absolute tunnel vision, bad enough not to catch you, but also good enough not to lose you altogether.

I guess a lot of killers face camp out of frustration, but like, it was a pretty standard chase. I am not even saying he was bad. It was just... Not 3 gens?

And It all depends on how much willing would people who don't buy cosmetics that often be to buy them at lower prices.

I don't think I would do it more because I already don't purchase much. If I really like something, I do. But price wouldn't make me get more of them now. I would still only purchase what I really like because it is cosmetics.

I am not forgetting them at all, people who will just buy regardless are a given. The crux of my argument is just that they are vastly outnumbered by those who would start buying if the prices were reasonable, more than enough to offset the price cut.

I like cosmetics, but not obsessed or anything. But I have seen many that I really liked, but when I saw the cost, was like "yeah, no." I think there are probably a ton of people like me.

Are you sure it would benefit them to lower the price when they are doing well enough already? Just look at all the licenses we got.

Don't get me wrong I would love prices being lower but it most likely won't happen.

I have no expectation it will happen, but it should, and it would ultimately make BHVR more money.

Economically speaking, when you are just making just enough of a profit on your overpriced merch to meet goals, there is a natural hesitancy to lower the price.

But I would bet an internal organ that the percentage of the player base able or willing to consistently spend at the rate BHVR charges is pretty low compared to the percentage that would spend if there was a price cut.

If you cut your asking price by 50%, you're losing the 50% on that transaction, but if three times as many people buy it, you're making more money. That is what I feel would happen.

Again, zero confidence we'll see any meaningful price reductions, but it would be a viable and likely profitable move to make.

  • @Shaped said:

People are buying them at that price. It won't be lowered obviously.

    That is unrealistic.

Well, obviously people are buying them.

What I am saying is a lot more people would buy a lot more of them if they were cheaper, leading to increased overall profit.

This (pricing for volume sales) is not a novel economic concept, it's one that is practiced all over, and it's absolutely realistic. Especially when it comes to digital items, where there is no material cost, but only the cost of labor (essentially)

There is some risk, but I would bet it would pay off, and quickly.

I have spent a lot of money on microtransactions and DLC for countless games, but BHVRs cosmetics are top tier overpriced.

  • Hard disagree.

Unless by "boring" you really mean "don't allow me to play the way I want"

That would hurt anyone who gets into a lobby with teammates who refuse to use voice chat, though. I imagine a lot of people would refuse to use it. I certainly wouldn't touch it.

A chat wheel would be better. And it'd be useful for mixed-language lobbies, unlike voice chat.

Not a bad idea, but I think any comms option should be proximity based as well.

No thanks, when playing killer, solo groups are ridiculously easy and it would be incredibly boring to have that as the only option.

Eh, there are solo teams with good players out there who can be great challenges, and SWFs who are terrible.

One might be tempted to say that makes things even, but a SWF of good players on comms is bringing a gun to a knife fight in way nothing else can.

I am hopeful that the solo queue buffs even some of this stuff out. Once we get some of those enhancements in place, I would not be opposed to separating 4-player SWFs out from the herd.

  • I am not an expert on the subject, but latency-related hit absurdity (both ways) is unfortunately common, and when it happens with a projectile, it just seems all that more pronounced.

It seems like this problem is more general than just the Huntress.

  • I think that the only people who cry about how the Nurse is overpowered have never really tried playing her. Yes, really experienced Nurse players are usually oppressive, but those are in the minority. Nurse is brutal to learn, and the vast majority of Nurses suck out loud. OP Nurses are being controlled by people who earned that. People have to be okay with the occasional rinsing.

When I load in and hear that first blink, I figure I have about an 80% chance of having a fun game and escaping, and a 20% of the team just getting absolutely wrecked. And I have no particular problem with that, and actually find the uncertainty kind of fun. Now if I were always playing at the top of MMR and was facing the good Nurses all the time, I would probably feel differently, but I have no interest playing in the sweatlord division of DBD, so I like hanging out in the midrange.

And yeah, people who don't like killers that make you think on your feet ("non-interactive" and "unfair" - lol) are definitely the ones keeping the stereotype of the entitled survivor alive and well. If it were up to some people, all the killers would essentially be re-skins of each other, all being able to approached with the same strats. That would be lazy and boring AF, but somehow not making the same killers over and over is "running out of ideas"?

Now BHVR may be running out of ideas, but not making cookie cutter killers isn't where that is being shown.

The moments when I have gotten truly bored with DBD and seriously considered quitting have almost always been when looping or chasing in loops. It just feels like deja vu, and that is what like 75% of the game is, and those "interactions" get suuuper tired when you just keep repeating them.

I for one am for anything that shakes that up.

  • I thought there was a penalty box for this sort of thing in this sport

I'll be honest. I stopped reading at "boobs jiggling around"

That's where I started reading. And then stopped.

  • Just a disjointed labyrinth of long fences. No buildings, just fences.

  • I always look at every situation, particularly difficult ones where defeat is almost certain, as an opportunity to get better. If I DC'd whenever if felt like I was going to lose or was getting wrecked, I would never really get better.

People just have to reconcile with the experience of losing, sometimes badly.

I mean they don't HAVE to, but bouncing every time you hit adversity is a recipe for being mediocre.
