  • Flashlights seem OP until you learn how to counter them (which is easy), then they become almost a non factor. In my first hundred hours I hated them, now I welcome them. If I see four flashlights in lobby I might occasionally run lightborn, but that's strictly to screw around.

  • In my experience, the survivor DC to killer DC ratio has to be like 100:1. Survs DCing is MUCH more common, and it makes less sense.

If the timeout isn't a deterrent, make the punishment (beyond a certain point, like the 3rd or 4th DC in a short period) be giving up a percentage of their iri shards or BP, and divide them up among those left in the match.

I have no interest in hearing "you can't make people play the game"; if you're not willing to play a game through, don't queue up.

It's too bad you can't differentiate a internet drop vs. a hard DC, or I would love to see the penalties be merciless, like starting at 30 min and quickly escalating to days.

You can't DC if you're not allowed to play to begin with, and that is a fate I think chronic disconnectors deserve.

See, the issue with that then is people who were never supposed to get shards in the first place end up getting even more, which isnt fair to the people who had been patiently waiting for their shards, there'd still be an imbalance to level out to be fair to everyone

    Clearly.

    I wasn't being serious.

  • I think the best thing to do would be to give a full round of 6K shards to everyone, just to be safe.

I mean, I already got mine, but you have to sure, right?

  • He can be effective as a non-camper, but the nice, lazy, easy option is just too tempting for many to pass up.

Make it so the first down with the chainsaw forces cooldown. No more mowing the lawn fixes the camping, and he'd still be effective.

  • As long as you don't take it too seriously, sure.

    Sometimes.

  • Earlier tonight I got matched up against a team players that had to have been completely new to the game, and I have 1500+ hours in. I play on console so I couldn't see their hours, but none of them seem to have any idea what PH's power was, and spent the whole match grouped up trying to immerse, playing terrified. I could easily have ended the game in 5 minutes or less.

I went super easy on them, letting them play a bit, and let one go, but that's not the experience brand new players should be having. Or me, for that matter. No fun for anyone. And matches like these are not uncommon.

And as for grade, at this point I am not sure it's not a better indicator of skill than MMR. Time in game is positively correlated to skill, and since SBMM seems to be throwing crap at the wall, grade may actually mean more, which is not great.

There is one thing that killer should not use 2-3 perks slot just to counter a single possible play style

Especially all they need are may be 2 Boil over + 1 Breakout, 3 perks of 16 to make it annoying to face.

Oh no, it's not at all strategically sound to devote 3 perks that way, but it is totally worth it when you run into one of those squads. For that moment, anyway.

  • I haven't had an AFK killer in ages. Like over a year.

But yeah, de-pipping over that or DCs is not cool.

  • I have found that agitation/iron grasp counter the boil over builds pretty well as is. Add in mad grit for the squads the like to body block for each other.

  • It depends on my mood, if I am feeling spicy I'll go full sweatlord and take them on. But if I am just relaxing I will dodge groups of ttvs.

Solo ttvs are no thing to me, and are often very nice (and also not all that good).

But I just assume groups are on some kind of BS, and I generally don't want any part of it.

I think I had some early experiences with truly obnoxious ttv groups that really set the tone (flashlight bully squads). One that I'll never forget was a ttv swf that were exploiting the Breakdown bug and running No Mither, which was one of the most annoying experiences of my gaming life.

Freddy is in the game. So that's not a good reason lmao

I feel like half the posts in this thread are people pointing out that Freddy was a child killer

  • I am in the Mountain West of the US, and I play a pretty even distribution of killer/survivor; my estimates:

Survivor queue is 4-5 minutes during the day, 5-10 in the evening, 10-15 late night.

Killer queue is 2-10 seconds day and evening, 20-60 seconds late night.

Pretty much the same for killer the entire time I have been playing DBD (2+ years), survivor has gotten markedly longer over the past few months. I have recently considered doing all my surv play on the weekend days, because I work M-F and daytime is the only time surv queues aren't brutal for me.

At this point, I am pretty convinced that people who say they have longer killer times than survivor times at literally any point are trying to gaslight the rest of us (kind of joking but not really).

Boil over would be effective but killers prefer to slug, thats the killers choice. Using boil over not to get hooked is called survival its an actually category for bp.

    1. More BP =/= win. Even if it did, you'd still get more by playing a more complete match.
    2. I was not talking about survs using boil over alone, but with the perks that often go with it (flip-flop, etc.).
    3. Boil Over alone actually doesn't do much to keep you off of a hook, to make it effective for that, you have to build around it, which compromises other facets of your game.

Scott Jund uploaded a video today about this, and it makes a lot of good points.

It's funny someone earlier used the term disingenuous, because making a case that survs are using B.O. to increase their chances of winning is exactly that. It's a shiny new toy that can be used to make "fun" plays that frustrate the killer, but to no real end beyond that.

And I play a lot of survivor and ON OCCASION I have run a build that otherwise held me back from a win in order to set up an amusing (to me, at least) play, so I am not a completely hypocrite here. But call it what it is.

Am I not helping myself or my team have a better chance at winning by forcing a slug play? If the killer is wasting time trying to hook me, that is allowing my teammates more time to do gens, heal, or work on totems.

    That’s a very disingenuous take.

If we're being honest here, many of the survs/squads are not trying to win the game with boil over builds, because they are not effective in terms of winning the game. Like, at all. Any time you spend slugged is time you're not working on an objective.

I don't tunnel, but that is exceedingly effective in nearly all scenarios if you are trying to win. Camping is can be very effective in many circumstances (altruistic survs).

Bringing boil over, flip-flop, etc. to a match isn't a sign you're trying to win, it's a clear indication your goal for that game is to f with the killer.

  • I've been running Iron Grasp + Agitation + Mad Grit. Doesn't do much vs an average team, but absolutely decimates these Boil Over squads.

    No slugging required.

  • @Nicholas said:

The reason for the surge of complaints is because of validation, Killers don't like validation. They like being able to get laggy hits based on what they see. The killers have a tremendous advantage over survivors every single match in the form of latency. Survivors have to account for their own latency plus that of the killers with no way to see that information. So now that DH validates the hit, it's a big problem for killers that are accustomed to their hits always connecting.

I don't care that that the hit doesn't connect; if it's a miss it's a miss. Play enough killer and you have a pretty decent sense of when a hit is cheap, and I do not mind not getting cheap hits.

What bothers me is the feedback; you often get all the same feedback as you would on a down - scream, blood, etc. At that point I am looking for the next surv or going for the pickup, except the survivor is running off into the distance. It really throws you off.

  • On its own, I think it's fine. In fact, even as killer it always kind of bothered my that you could drop from the second floor of a building while carrying a person and it had no effect. Not that DbD is grounded in realism, but it just seemed wrong.

That said, bad actors are going to abuse it to "have fun", so it probably needs to be nerfed. We can't have nice things without some people ruining it for everyone.

  • I don't like slugging so today I took inspiration from SpookyLoopz and ran Iron Grasp, Agitation, and Mad Grit. It was fun for a while and I didn't have to slug anyone. If course I had run three perks I don't like, but it was fun for a couple of hours.

But until this thing blows over, I'll only slug if it's clear they are trying to abuse it.

    Hawkins is a killer-sided map.

Unless you were a Huntress, Oni, or Blight, in which case it was a nightmare.

  • I don't miss it much, but I would trade Haddonfield or RPD for it in a cold second.

EDIT: Or Badham. Screw that map and all of its configurations.

  • Because fnaf has about zero depth or psychological horror, and is purely a jumpscare generator. It's a kid's "horror" game, and while there are adults who love it, it's almost entirely because they were introduced to it when they were a kid, and they can't view it without nostalgia glasses. It's not scary, it's startling. There is a difference there, and it's the reason that even as a massive horror movie fan, I resent films that lean almost exclusively on jump scares. It's cheap, lazy and unimaginative. The narrative elements of fnaf could only seem deep to a 10 year old.

I just could not take any killer from that game seriously. Like Trickster, but worse. TBH, I don't even know if I could take Chucky seriously (though I don't think that would work mostly for mechanical reasons).

And yeah, the fanbase is full blown cringe, and I don't care to have them infesting the chats and forums.

And I personally detest Scott Cawthon and don't want to see him get a cent more, but that's personal and secondary to all the other issues.

"That's exactly the point trying to be made; pressing E takes no skill, and you use it to bail yourself out of a situation you are in because of your lack of skill. Takeaway being that a skilled survivor doesn't need DH."

You get that wrong. Survivors dont get saved by DH when they did an extra Loop, they do an extra Loop BECAUSE they have Dead Hard.

You may argue if it takes skill to use Dead Hard in the correct way, because there are Survivors who just use Dead Hard in a Deadzone, which increases their Chase Time by 1 second and gives the Killer the information that they have DH.

But overall, no Perk in DBD requires Skill. They are just "slap them on and use them". For both sides.

The outcome what the player does with those Perks is a different topic. See my DH-example above. Another example would be Infectious Fright for Killers. Using Infectious Fright requires 0 Skill. Deciding whether it is worth going for the Survivor or not however takes some experience and knowledge.

What? Of course the surv gets the extra loop because of DH, that's the whole point. That's what I was saying. It's an extra loop you got when you should have been down. All perks make the player's life easier to varying degrees, not many flat out save your ass when you screwed up like DH. It does not have the reputation it does for no reason.

And again with the false equivalency with the Infectious Fright. Of course it takes no skill, but it doesn't have the immediate impact that DH does. It's a common opinion among many that DH is probably the strongest perk in the game for a reason, and there is definitely a hierarchy here. With some perks being much stronger than others (and some OP).

If that wasn't the case, people would just add perks at random.

Saying "no perks take skill to use, so all perk usage is equal in terms of reflecting player skill" is absurd.

  • @Seanzu said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2778972#Comment_2778972

I think you're just flat out wrong.

Saying "Dead Hard takes no skill, just press x" implies the other perks in the game take skill to use, which they absolutely do not, this leans towards the only reason people say "dead hard takes no skill" is try and put a negative spin on using dead hard and putting those down that use it. This is the only perk people say "doesn't take skill to use" why is that? None of the other skills take skill.

I think you're working hard to create some weird equivalency here. I don't see anyone saying other perks perks take skill to use, but that certain perks are OP enough that they compensate for a lack of general game skill (DH and NOED being noteworthy among these). No perks take skill to use, but not all perks are created equal, clearly.

If you're a killer and you make a great play and/or clearly outplay a surv only to have them barely make it to a vault or pallet just by pressing a button, that is frustrating AF.

For the record, I don't have a problem with DH when working as it was intended (have we ever seen that, though?), but the killer side validation feedback and DH for distance have got to go.

Like NOED, I look at DH as a "training wheels" perk; good when learning, but because it consistently hands you success where you really failed, will stop you from getting better, or at least getting as good as you can be. And it creates a dependency, which is why people who have used it religiously can't bring themselves to stop running it.

  • @Seanzu said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2778896#Comment_2778896

Why do people bring up skill all the time in regards to Dead Hard?

Not a single perk in this game takes any skill to use so constantly trying to demean people for "not being skillful for using x perk" makes absolutely zero sense and serves nothing more than to try and make DH users feel bad.

Not to nitpick, but isn't saying that kind of supporting the point? I mean, when someone is saying "you're using X perk because are aren't skilled" and you say "that doesn't make sense because using perks takes no skill" is at best helping their argument, and at worst absolute nonsense.

That's exactly the point trying to be made; pressing E takes no skill, and you use it to bail yourself out of a situation you are in because of your lack of skill. Takeaway being that a skilled survivor doesn't need DH.

I mean, that's the entire point, and the entire basis of designating some perks as "crutch".

Or is it just really late and I am reading that wrong?

Actually embarrassing if you think someone running a frustratingly annoying build is worthy of getting told to ######### in chat LMAOOOOO

You feel the same way about any killer build, playstyle, game abuse, etc?

Yeah, there is nothing anyone could possible do in game that would even approach warranting being told to kill themselves.

I think a lot of people say that ######### as a throwaway insult, but you never know what someone is going through, and that should never be said.

And honestly, regardless of how obnoxious a player's style/build may be, if it makes someone angry enough to actually wish physical harm on them (or even if it "just" makes them legit furious), they should seek help. Literally. They should find a therapist, they aren't processing life well.

  • I always assume it is just my imagination...at first. But I have definitely run into a few of these subtle speed hack types, and with increasing frequency.

Trouble is it's not obvious enough to really stand out in a video report, and I am not confident the devs are going to scrutinize it as much as it might require.

But the funny thing is that more often then not I end up killing them. Probably because they suck, which is why they are cheating to begin with.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

It's funny because the new boil over encourages slugging, a playstyle survivors hate.

Yeah, I've already bled out a few survivors using a build centered on Boil Over who kept running to corners when they knew they were going down. I actually don't mind it so much as complement to a build, but when used with flip-flop, etc...yeah, no mercy from me. And they know it too, because some are running tenacity and unbreakable with it.

If I run into teams using these builds, rulebook is going in the toilet.

  • Getting more people to play killer, particularly at mid-high level, is the only solution here. Anything else is a band-aid.

I may be a masochist, but I play a lot of killer and my queue times are lightning quick essentially 24/7, while my surv queue times are always much longer; there's not even really a comparison. Everyone else I know who plays DBD has similar experiences. Only one reason for that.

Make killer less of a drag to play, and the rest will sort itself out.

  • Toxic has become short for "doing anything that I don't like in any given moment" for some people.

Camping/Tunneling/Slugging aren't inherently toxic, and I recognize them as legitimate strats. Do I (even as a killer) respect them? No, not really, outside of a certain range of circumstances (where doing so is the virtually the only way left to win). I think that killers who use these tactics as common practice probably just aren't that good, and it's lazy and boring. As a killer, I will only employ them to salvage something from a really dire situation later in a match, because it feels lazy to me.

But toxic? Unless they are used in a weirdly targeted and irrational way, no.

Do I expect people to adhere to my sensibilities? Of course not, that an absurd expectation. But I feel like a lot of people do, and therein lies the issue.

  • I like to play killer because it's more challenging, and more engaging. Of course that's also why it's more stressful.

People are prone to identifying with things, and the killer in DBD is a role that lends itself more to that, imo. It's more defined role with a clearer purpose than being one of four on a team. For that reason I think that even though more people play as survivor than killer, more people identify as a "killer main" than as a "survivor main".

Also, it's not rocket science as to why salty killers have greater representation on the forum; it's because killer does have more BS to deal with, and dissatisfied people are the ones who feel the need to express their feelings more strongly. People who are having a great time don't flock to message boards to tell each other what a great time they are having.

  • Huntress on pretty much any indoor map. Myers on blood lodge. Artist on the Swamp maps. Haddonfield in general.

  • I'll sometimes wait to take a hit to give the killer some points if they really had a rough game, but never for long.

And I never teabag at the gate, it's a pathetic display of boundary aggression. I've even been known to sandbag other survs who do it while I am there.

  • My surv queues are shortest during weekend days, and afternoons on weekdays.

My killer queues are shortest in the late evening, but they are always a fraction of what my surv queue time is. I don't think I've waited longer than 20-30 seconds in a killer queue in at least six months, probably longer.

  • @Colton147147 said:

I mean, I ate a 30 game L streak when I first started learning Nurse, so, yeah I buy it.

To be fair, that is the Nurse, probably the hardest killer in the game to master. My first several games with her were so rough, I never went back. In part because I am on console, but also because I have no patience for long learning curves.

  • Yeah, example #679792 of why everyone should play both sides. When someone doesn't understand the capabilities of their opponent, they may interpret everything as being suspicious.

And/or they just can't stand losing legitimately, and have to make it about being wronged somehow to soothe their butthurt.

    Probably both.

  • I actually like it in some circumstances. Like when survs teabag after a pallet stun. You just gave me a pallet AND you're wasting time. I had one the other night use like half the pallets on the map in one chase and teabag me at every drop. By the late game there were almost no pallets and I ended up with a 4K.

Teabagging after a pallet stun is a great way to announce that you don't play killer, also. I am more than willing to eat pallets in the early game; you're doing me a favor. The bagging is just comic relief.

As a survivor I teabag in two instances only:

    1. The killer is a camping Bubba
    2. I am trying to draw aggro from a teammate who is being actively tunneled.
  • Sometimes I like to run Lithe + Quick and Quiet, as it can lead to some fun escapes from loops when used at the right time. Killer is still looking for you around the loop while you're already halfway across the map.

  • Funny, I almost never shake my head, or stare at a hooked surv. I NEVER hit a hooked surv. I make a reasonable effort to avoid tunneling, and only proxy camp near an opened gate. And yet, I get teabagged at some point at least half the games I play.

    Funny, that.

Not that it tilts me (I am an old gamer and stuff like that stopped getting under my skin years ago), but the idea that survs only drop the bags in response to killer BM is hilarious.

  • I let a fair number of people go, but I feel like the thanks is implied. As a surv, I'll leave my item or make some sort of gesture before I leave. Most of the time I just want to get to the next match.

I play on console and have effectively walled myself off from postgame comms, and when I have gotten chats in the past it wasn't to wish me well. And now if someone is going to of through the trouble of sending a friend request just to say something, I assume it's to talk some #########.

Human nature is that people are more motivated to express displeasure than pleasure. That's why the majority of forum posts are negative; content people are content to just keep on keeping on. Discontent people want to be heard.

If you're a killer and you let me go, I'm grateful, and I assume it of those who I show mercy to.

  • A really good Nurse is oppressive AF, and absolutely demoralizing to go against.

That said, she should NOT be nerfed because the amount of playtime it takes to get to that point is relatively huge. Great nurse players have earned being oppressive, and for every great Nurse, there are 10 who suck out loud. If her skill floor wasn't so high, I could see a nerf being warranted, but it is, so it isn't.

  • Poor Clown doesn't have much going for him, jeez. And the effects seem pretty logical and consistent for being a drugged stupor, so I fail to see the issue here.

  • Stop using a 4K as you fun/win condition (which seems to be common). I prefer to 4K, but I don't need to 4K. I absolutely could 4K a lot, but it would require me to play in a way I don't enjoy.

Play both sides for maximum experience

I'd go so far as to say that if someone hasn't played a decent amount of both sides (like a lot more more than "I tried killer/surv for a few games"), they can't really have a well formed opinion about power balance, or the game in general.

And it will absolutely make you a better player.

  • I only have hearing in one of my ears, which can really cause some issues for me (especially when playing as Spirit, which is actually my favorite killer despite directional sound being so important to her). I've lived with it for so long I just kind of shrug at this kind of thing, but having some other option for feedback would be cool.

Maybe you should fix your internet problem before playing the game. The other 4 players in your game dont really care if you DC because of poor internet connection or if you DC because of a Ragequit, for them, the result is the same.

This. The only time I got booted more than once in a day it was because of a bad ethernet cable, and once I realized the issue was persistent and on my end, I stopped playing until I got it sorted. The DBD servers aren't perfect, but 999 times out of a 1000 getting booted is a user end internet issue.

And as crappy as it may be, if your internet just generally sucks, online gaming isn't going to work that well for you.
