Generally, I'd go for switch players if I can, they tend to be weaker.
Hard to be strong when you're playing on a potato.
(I own a Switch and love it, but would never use it for DBD)

I think playing surv is by far more difficult than playing killer. It’s more difficult 4 escapes than 4 kills
Well you're entitled to your opinion. Some people think the earth is flat, too.
But seriously, a 4E is not something you should have as a win condition, as you can only control yourself. You are one of four, the killer is one of one. People trying to ensure a 4E are often what leads to a 4K.
To me, sacrifice is a big part of the surv experience.
But this is really a separate convo from the topic.
-
I am not a killer "main", but I play a lot of killer.
TBH honest, there is very little to choose from between PC and console survs, and certainly not enough to alter my gameplay to target one over the other.
Viewing console players as being the weak link off the bat is flawed as hell, and just your run of the mill PC master race elitism.
In game, I'm an opportunist most of the time, I chase whoever makes the most sense in that moment. Their platform is not something I even think about in game.
Prior to the game I might look at their icons, but that is just me trying to weigh the odds I am facing a SWF, nothing beyond that.

Everything in this game requires at least a bit of skill.
A little bit, but not much. Basic vg skill.
For me, this breaks down to a semantic issue - what is skill? How are we defining it.
If you consider accrued/learned game knowledge (how to run tiles, map layouts, game mechanics) a skill, then absolutely. I would say that is 99.9% of being successful at DBD. This is also why my position is that DBD is a game where experience/play time is the best predictor of success.
If your talking about reflex, quick twitch ability, quick, adaptive thinking, and manual dexterity/muscle memory, then DBD requires relatively little skill at all. Just basic vg skill that most moderately experienced gamers have.
-
Dead by Daylight is not a game designed for comp, isn't a great reflector of technical skill in any facet, is rng dependent, and is imbalanced af. Everyone has subjective win conditions, and play the game looking for often wildly different experiences.
It's a very, very poor arena for 1v1 skill contests.
But people are people, being are competitive by nature, and will make a contest out of anything. This is why I back out of higher MMR; there tends to be naught but sweatfests op there, and in such an imbalanced game, that just isn't fun for me.
Personally, I go to other games in order to really scratch that itch, playing DBD in a way I find fun, without "winning" as my primary objective. But every once in a while and I am really feeling edgy I will get a little too serious in game, but not often.
But as others have said, people can play the game in whichever way that they prefer (outside of cheating). That's their right.
But I do get rubbed the wrong way when people "win" in DBD and toxically lord it over their opponent as if it means something.

That was definitely intended as a joke, but unfortunately not everyone understands irony. My request, on the other hand, is meant seriously.
Perhaps you should play Dead or Alive instead?

Hideous.
It may have given an FPS bump, but anyone saying they used it because "it looked better" is/was peddling the saddest of lies, perhaps mostly to themselves.

That's not a viable solution either. There's no Cross Progression, nor is it likely ever coming. So who with thousands of hours and whatever monies into this game will buy that awesome new PC, and the DLC's, plus any wanted cosmetics. And then comes the best part, releveling all killers and survs from nothingness. You know the grind of this game.
Yeah, I bought the PC version on an impulse when it was on a Steam sale, and only after a few hours have I begun to really feel the enormity of the task ahead if I want to get to where I am on PS4/5. And it's not the money, it's all the time; 2+ years, 1700 hours.
Like I said in another thread, if you're a new player, trying to get to where you see others, simply in terms of perks, has got to be demoralizing. At least I have all the experience I've gained to help early on.
I have a fool's hope that at some point they'll finally implement cross progression, but it's just that.
-
Both are fine, save for CoH. I do think basement hooks should be scourge hooks as well.
-
RPD, because no one wants to play RPD unless they intend to abuse it. Haddonfield as well, but we'll see what the rework brings.
And the Coldwind maps, because ######### corn, that's why.

Toshio could be part of the power. Haunt survivors with them then swap to Kayako.
Yeah, that could work; I had been thinking about how Toshio could be used.
I had a similar idea in my daydreams about having both Billy/Stu as ghostface, where only one could hurt the survs, but the other could appear as a misdirect, like in the films.
-
Or make CoH exhausitble, with a set amount of healing for each trial, to be split between survs, and when that well is empty, the CoH perks are deactivated.
Or just let the killer permanently break bones like survs can.

A Robert Englund legendary cosmetic for Fred would be amazing. Sadly I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Two of the biggest items on my "totally never gonna happen" wish list would be to see both the NoES and Scream/Ghostface chapters overhauled to reflect their original source material, using Robert Englund with a Nancy surv, and Billy and Stu with Sydney and Dewey (and maybe Gale).
That would be awesome.

DBD desperately needs a crawling Killer, so I hope she gets added one day.
I agree, but that would create an interesting POV dilemma.
Adding Kayako would require some creative design, imo. One of the things compelling about Sadoko are the elements from the source material that offer opportunities for unique interactions (TVs, wells (which I had hoped to see incorporated somehow, like in a mori), etc.).
Kayako/Ju-on is undeniably creepy af, but she would come in lacking some of those iconic elements that could easily be co-opted into gameplay features.

I want so badly to say no because BHVR has not been covering themselves in glory and they don't deserved to be rewarded for it, but I absolutely will, because I LOVE J-Horror.
Beyond that, things are a lot murkier. A lot of really good games coming out that are generally more compelling.

yeah cool whatever, MnK is always going to better, that's a no brainer
the point is that what we do have for controller is vastly worse than what it has been proven that it can be by other games, and that it needs to be addressed
Well yeah, but add that to the pile of relatively easily remedied things BHVR will never get to.
It's kind of unfair and demoralizing for folks with limited options, but I have zero confidence it will be addressed.
-
Nerf it to the ground, at least to the point where it's effects can be offset with perks/add-ons.
Especially if they are going to introduce killers like Sakado who are clearly designed for hit and run, which CoH pretty much made non-viable.
Or make boons permanently breakable, introduce a perk or mechanic that allows killers to see boons, or something. The recent nerf was not nearly enough to make it fair.

this is about as nonsensical of a suggestion as the original post
I'm a long time console gamer (who generally scoffs at PC elitists who claim controller is trash and M+KB is the cure for cancer and all human ills) who has played many hundreds of hours of killer on a properly calibrated controller (and that does make a difference) and a good mouse is still considerably better for killer, imo.
I have just recently started playing DBD on PC and I generally hate WASD for movement (I use a Razer gamepad thumbstick instead, and I still use controller for surv), but immediately fell in love with having a mouse for killer gameplay.
-
Survivor is generally perfectly fine on console, with the one exception of having two actions mapped to the same button (which you can change).
Killer, otoh, really suffers from the lack of a mouse. It is much easier to lose track of survs and/or get spun as a console killer, because you just can't turn as quickly, and aiming is MUCH better with a mouse.
But beyond that, the difference is overblown.
(aside from the cheating, which is illegitimate anyway).
-
Yeah, Haddonfield rework is coming, and again, quality over quantity, and when it makes sense. Not every killer needs their own realm. I'd MUCH rather have 1-2 good maps a year than 3-4 hastily thrown together ones.
-
I think that on balance, it's a very fair map. Killers like Trickster, PH, Artist and even Huntress have a real advantage in the hallways...if you stick to the hallways. But the classrooms have lots of obstacles, windows, pallets, etc., and can be used to great effect by survs. Lots of hiding/immersion points as well.
I am actually a fan of Midwich, though I know many people hate it.

Why not? We have lots and lots of slashers. That niche seems to have plenty of room.
Kayako is also an Onryo, and is aesthetically very similar to Sadako. There are clearly differences, but to people are aren't ardent fans of J-Horror, the two would seem too similar to justify both, imo.
I'd personally love to see it, but I think there are also a number of other cultures/folklores that have no representation that deserve a shake as well.
As for the slashers, most of them are more distinct from each other than Sadako, Kayoko, and Rin.
Except Hillbilly/Bubba, maybe, but Bubba was an icon that they probably felt like they had to add.
-
Not nearly as many people were abusing it as was widely believed, but that doesn't make the tears of those who were any less tasty

Imagine having a set opinion on her this early, much less giving a tier assignment.
We're in initial impression mode, anyone passing judgement now came in with pre-formed opinion, looking for any reason to confirm.
Jury's going to be out for a while.
-
Play a high mobility or insta-down killer, unless you want to be reduced to tunneling and/or slugging.
-
I haven't played myself, but it definitely seems like the TVs are all at least in striking distance of a gen, and maybe not totally RNG. Maybe coded to spawn somewhere within a certain radius of a gen.
I think you'll see a lot of gen grabs with her. Again, I think with the right approach/build, her map/gen pressure has to the potential to be insane.
-
I'd be fine if they focused on reworking current maps (as they are doing with Haddonfield, thank god).
I don't see the need for a new map every chapter, it would almost certainly result in even worse design/QA. Quality over quantity should be the approach, imo.
I think introducing new maps on a subjective basis would be best, like when one is iconic, or really strongly associated with a killer.
Like with Sadako, none of the environments form the source material are remarkable in and of themselves, or inextricably linked with her.
But if you brought in Jason (likely never to happen, but for example's sake), you'd HAVE to have a Camp Crystal lake. Or if a FNAF killer was brought in (*vomits*), you know a map would have to come with it. Or with the Xenomorph, a spaceship would be called for. And so on.
Some chapters just demand it, but with most it seems superfluous.

Agreed on Native American - Wendigo type killer would be great. And TONS to draw from with Indian lore.

She's not anti-loop, but definitely the right play with her seems to be to avoid looping, incentivizing suprise hit and run. Really quick (but fairly balanced by her "portals" going temporarily inactive after use) teleports, good bits of undetectable. A surprise/stealth killer who can pinball around in a highly effective hit and run style. Can basically hit, start to chase, and quickly duck out and get a hit and/or start another chase, keeping the survs off balance.
The manifest/de-manifest mechanic seems to be a good mix of Spirit's phasing and Wraith's cloak. Perks not that great, but the scourge hook perk gives good info.
Huge map pressure potential, good information perks. I can definitely see some insane perk combo options already. Her gen kick/regression perk has the potential to be devastating in combo with pop.
Once survs get a feel for her, some of that will be mitagted, but in the right hands (with experience and the right approach), I think she has the potential to be pretty oppressive. I've watched a few vids, and I see a lot of survs consistently being caught completely and totally unaware.
If one were to try and play her as a looping killer, she would be average/weak, but that's clearly not the play here.
It's early, but I think those calling her a low tier m1 killer are missing the mark here.

Would I believe them if they showed proof for every single individual match they have ever had (none omitted) proving they are always good and always have bad team mates every match? Yes.
Can I guarantee that will never, ever happen, not just because it's a ridiculously stupid request, but that one match proving they were a weak player in that trial would end their idea of them being great? Also yes.
I absolutely guarantee everyone will have matches where they are the weak link, and it's that whole idea of them being always with bad teams whilst they are always the better team mate which I say are lies. I just detest snobbery.
Yeah, no one ever wants to admit it, but there are plenty of matches where you are going to be the worst survivor on the team, regardless of how you want to see it.
And more often than not in solo, you're going to have all four survs pointing the finger at each other, like the Spider-man meme.

I know there was a huge spike when boons first dropped, but I feel like that has receded, and I haven't noticed any uptick.

Using controller + mouse in DbD is NOT advised as there is an acknowledged bug where FPS drop massively while trying to play like this. And I mean really massive drops. It’s been a known bug for a while and as other controller problems the devs don’t seem to be in a hurry to fix it.
playing only with controller though -especially for survivors - shouldn’t be a problem at all. And you are already used to controllers in DbD anyways. Steam (and other third party software) allow further controller settings and I would advise to use these. Especially for response curves and dead zones.
I also am using a controller with gyro aim which I use for aiming with a flashlight. It… sometimes even works like a charm :) other times it’s really wonky. But maybe it’s just my setup.
here one of the (acknowledged) bug reports on simultaneous controller and mouse fps drops. I am pretty sure there was another one with more info and occasional bumps after major updates:
Thanks for saving me the headache of doing that setup only to experience that frustration, the controller + mouse part was the main piece of feedback I was looking for (though if someone has recs for controller settings for surv, I'll gladly take them).
I am making the switch to PC mostly because I felt l had reached to point where the lack of mouse was holding me back on killer. Sick of getting spun/losing track of a surv simply because I can't turn fast enough.
I feel like controller is adequate for surv, though I might buy a controller with more button options to avoid those situations where the same button is mapped to multiple functions (often resulting in unintentionally dropped pallets at bad times).
-
Yeah, running to hooked teammates when you know someone else is as well is the most sure way to approach this, but is also a throw, as everyone has said.

You would not believe how often I get called a camper or tunneler, even if I make a point not too.
it's why I can't watch youtubers; the second their buddies go down 'OMG! He'S cAmPiNg/tunneling/slugging!' No, buddy; he knocked your friend down 2.3 seconds ago, and another Survivor was 3 feet away. What did you expect the Killer to do? Walk away?
It got so teeth-grindingly frustrating, to hear Survivor youtubers whine these excuses the SECOND they start to lose. No Killer can ever win 'fairly' because the second they start to win; Survivors claim it's the result of camping, tunneling, or slugging. It's never 'The Killer out played me! Good game!' unless the youtuber in question is a literal saint.
Yes, yes, yes; a thousand times yes.
Sooo many survs are convinced they are being tunneled when they aren't, because they are ignorant of how games go for killer. All they know is that they've been chased/hit/downed multiple times, with no contextual awareness of what is going on with the killer and other survs. It's a perspective issue that only really gets alleviated by playing a lot of killer.
Everyone has their own definition, but a rule of thumb for me is that if the killer lets you out of their sight, you probably aren't really being tunneled. If another surv is hooked before the killer turns back to you, you definitely aren't. A legit, focused tunnel is going to be swift and brutal.
And really good killers are going to make you feel like they are everywhere at once, but that doesn't mean you are being tunneled.
-
Oh, and the heck with prestiging. The cost:reward at this point makes it a complete non-starter for me. I've prestiged a few characters, but not in a good long while. I think we're well on the way to that becoming a dead mechanic.
I would love to see some real rewards for prestiging, like a really cool, unique set of cosmetics and some iri shards, not just the default skin with some blood thrown on.
-
I would bet a large sum of money that 90%+ of DCs are people who DC ragequit the minute it becomes clear the match isn't going to go the way they wanted it to.
Screw all of those guys, let them rot in e-purgatory until they grow up.
There are some occasions where someone has something irl happen mid match, or they get booted, and that's understandable, which is why the first instance should be met with a reasonable penalty.
But once someone starts dipping out of matches multiple times a day, you have to draw a hard line.
And yes, there are poor souls with crap internet or a janky machines who just can't maintain a stable connection, and as much as it sounds cold and insensitive to say, online gaming probably just isn't something they should invest in until they get that stuff sorted.
-
If you're a new player, and you see all of these people running perks you want (and likely need to really compete), the magnitude of the task ahead of you has to be overwhelming.
If you've been in the game a long time, you have been accruing this stuff, but starting from scratch? Brutal, like staring up at Everest.
It's really becoming an accessibility problem.
-
IF the differentiation could be made between someone unplugging their cable and getting booted, I would be all in favor of absolutely dropping the hammer on people who DC multiple times in a day. Like starting at like an hour and escalating quickly to days of ban time.
-
Removing the BP cap doesn't change the net cost, and that's the problem. The issue is that you need a fortune in BP, and that number only grows with each chapter.
There are three solutions:
Dramatically increase BP rewards
Dramatically cut BP cost
Cull the junk on the bloodweb, up to and potentially including eliminating perk tiers
One or multiple of these are the only things that will meaningfully address the problem.

I think killer DCing is still worse than a survivor DCing, when killer DCs survivors can't chase, do gens or do bones and forced to go very long que.
This is absolutely true, but killer DCing also seems to be far, far less common. I might go a couple of months without seeing a killer DC, but I can't go a couple of hours without a surv DC.

I proudly state how many hours I have but I'll also be the first to say that hours doesn't = skill it just equals knowledge of how the game works, usually if I post my hours it's because someone has called me out and downplayed my opinion claiming I must not have been around long but I'm proud to be here since day 1 because nobody knew this game would be as big as it is now, nothing wrong with that.
Fair, but I would argue that knowledge of how that game works is a much better analog for skill in DBD than other games, because the reality is that DBD isn't really skill based in the sense a lot of other games are.
Looping is the best example of this, imo; knowledge of the tiles and typical strats is like 95% of the mechanic. Technical skill in DBD just isn't all that necessary.
-
Because if it weren't there, people would DC a lot more, and that sucks. At the end of the day you have to with the solution that protects the majority, and the DC penalty does.
This argument has be had here ad nauseum, and the crappy reality is that if your connection is unstable, you're just going to have to eat the penalties, or step away until things stabilize. I have had a couple of days where my connection was wonky, and I just had to play something else.
If your problem is more structural and your connection is always unstable, you have my sympathies. Not really a good solution here, and that sucks.

Something that bugs me about discussions sometimes is when people make accusations or project things onto you despite it not being true. Like a random example might be if you express an opinion about a certain perk or power and you're hit with things like "yeah but what about other thing?" or "you just think that because your XYZ"
It doesn't happen that often though, for me at least.
Unfortunately projecting thoughts and preconceptions onto others is one of the things humans do best; all of us do it, to varying degrees.
