Wow. You guys were right. This has been an absolutely abysmal experience. I was hoping that the SBMM would put me with people of similar skill, and I just played two matches back to back where the survivors just walked all over me.
First match as doctor and I only got two hooks and everyone escaped. My second match was with Pyramid Head and I only managed three hooks with one kill. Screw the SBMM.
And to add insult to injury I just bought Pinhead. If the game can't even match me against similar skilled players with killers that I rarely play, then I have no chance for a killer that I've never played with before.
Great job BHVR.

I finally played some killer games, they were on Wraith, who is my main. The games were pretty sweaty. Had to play to win for sure. Clicky clicky, map offering in a 4 man SWF on coms using, all meta perks, never ever play killer so they have ZERO empathy type players is what I faced. I'm pretty much done with DBD for a few months at least. I was already taking a break before SBMM went live, but I reinstalled the game to try the SBMM out. I'll come back when the devs can admit they have neglected above average skill level play's balance issues for too long and are now making changes to make the game more fair at that level. If they don't, then I guess I will just stick to watching DBD content on Twitch instead of playing.
I too watch DBD streamers more than I play the game. I've had far too many bad experiences playing killer that I had just accepted that DBD wasn't the game for me. I didn't want to sweat. DBD wasn't made to be a competitive game, but professional teams like Oracle show just how broken SWF can be within this game, and just how much a well coordinated team can completely destroy any killer that doesn't camp or tunnel.

What part of that statement do you not understand?
I'll give you a simple analogy.
A 17-year-old kid with no marketable skills sees an orthopedic surgeon roll up next to him at a stoplight in a Ferrari. Surgeon is dressed nice, has a super hot girl with him in the car, and is balling hard.
The kid could have many different reactions. My reaction was I wanted to be like that. I worked and paid my way through college, graduated with a 4.0, got into medical school, matched into an excellent residency, and became an expert in my field. I worked to develop multiple income streams to work towards my goal of pulling in $1m a year. I worked to master the game, and as a result, I've won at life.
Many other people in this situation would say this is outside their grasp. Going to college is too much work. Becoming a doctor takes too long. They don't have determination or fortitude to preserve. Instead, maybe they want to be lazy and take a job at Walmart. They would never imagine earning a million in their life, let alone in a single year.
People who want SBMM are like this second group. They don't think they are capable enough. No self confidence. They're not willing to put in the time to get there. They choose the easy path to their trailer park with the other low achievers.
Like wealth redistribution, the lazy want to redistribute these easier games away from me to themselves. But being stuck in a community where I only see high achieving ballers 100% of the time is no fun for me. One of the best parts of being on top is looking down and seeing all the people beneath you.
"People who want SBMM are like this second group. They don't think they are capable enough. No self confidence. They're not willing to put in the time to get there. They choose the easy path to their trailer park with the other low achievers."
I take issue with this statement. Between work and raising a family I don't have a plethora of free time to devote towards a single game. At best I might have 10 or so hours a week to play games. It has nothing to do with wanting to take the "easy path", or lacking the drive to get better. I want to have a good time just as anyone would, but I don't want to feel punished for lacking the experience necessary to enjoy this game. I play this game because I do find it fun and I do enjoy the (non toxic) community, but sometimes BHVR doesn't make that easy.
The developer update in July stated that we were supposed to get an offline bot mode, but it never happened. For people like myself that would have been a godsend, but I had to continue practicing against far better players, and getting stomped repeatedly doesn't make for a great learning tool.
You stated that you used to win over 90% of your matches, but that's no longer the case. It sounds then like the MMR is working as intended. Not saying it's perfect, but playing against more competent players is what it's supposed to do. Naturally everyone's experience will vary, but if you're winning over 90% of your matches, then it's not working as intended.

If the system works as it should, all of the sweaty players will rise to higher ranks, and it will be more relaxed at lower and mid ranks, but since the system was just put into place, it might be rough for a while until that happens. Some people don't seem to get that it will take time before the new MMR systems will give them balanced matches. Everyone was starting from zero, good and bad players, alike. It has to establish a baseline for each player, and that takes time when starting from scratch.
Makes sense
-
Yeah I played four survivor matches tonight, and after getting decimated in the first three matches, it's almost like the game threw me a bone in the last match. My teammates were rather competent and we managed to all escape. Again I'm a casual player, but I do play survivor more than killer but I'm no means a veteran at this game. It was definitely a sweatfest, so much so that I almost want to play killer Non-Stop.
-
It'll just be the same thing they always do; Halloween themed items and something that gives you more blood points. They now only focus on two events a year, and they couldn't be bothered to do anything more for the anniversary than cakes. So in other words, expect to be disappointed.
-
Yeah I played a solo survivor game last night, and my teammates (who somehow had an iridescent rating), ran all over the map doing nothing. The only gen done was completed by me. We would've walked all over the killer if my teammates weren't morons.

All you need to do is go to the store page and click add to library. If it only shows buy, click that and a Dropbox should appear with two choices, buy or add to library. Your characters should then appear as bought in game again.
Steam - I found this posted but cannot confirm it works.
After loading into the game if you click on a character you own but currently locked and proceed to buy it through which brings up steam ingame purchase option then back out, all my characters returned.
I'm really starting to feel like an unofficial mod lol.
I certainly appreciate the help. Sadly there were some killers and survivors that I purchased with shards like trickster and the twins. More than anything I'm concerned that I'll have to repurchase those specific characters again.

Oh yeah just go back into the shop and buy and download everything again. What a "simple" fix.

I've never experienced this before. Dealing with bugs has always been a frustrating issue with this game, but now that all of my DLC is missing, I think this is the proverbial nail in the coffin for me.

The lack of the offline bot mode that they announced in the July developer update still stings.😠

Yeah guys, why would you check on how that upcoming product is coming along?
Just buy it blindly lol, it has Pinhead in the name so it's going to be 100% okay.
"fine print" Okay, now you're just being funny.
I will say that it's pretty scummy to advertise a feature of the Cenobite for weeks (in this case the voice over lines) in the PTB, and then announce that you're removing it in patch notes right before it's released. It may not be a case of theft, but it's definitely false advertising.
-
Seeing as of how he talked in the ptb, makes this a case of false advertising. Hearing him talk was one of the reasons to purchase Pinhead since he's the only killer that does. Now that that's no longer the case, it makes me glad that I haven't put my money down yet.
-
That's definitely disappointing, and it serves as a bit of false advertising. If bhvr didn't have the legal rights to the voice over lines, then what we saw displayed in the ptb should never have existed.
-
Dead by Daylight is not the kind of game to unwind with at the end of a long day. Sadly the amount of toxicity that you can come across is far greater than it should be. I've had my share of, "go *** yourself" messages too. Now there are far more good-natured gamers out there than toxic ones, but those toxic ones can really stick with you. Just turn off the messages and block friend requests, and if that's not enough then you need to step away from DBD for a while. Trust me it'll do you some good.
-
That's always a tough one for me. On one hand I hate kicking generators because that's time that could be used chasing a survivor so I like ruin in that regard, however being able to reduce a generator by 25% with pgtw is quite impactful. I usually prefer chase builds because I like ending chases quickly, but if I had to go with one it would be pop only because there's no threat of it being removed within 30 seconds.

Ah yes, I like using Perks that are Norway.
But seriously, probably Discordance and Tinkerer. I don't like being notified that a gen is being rushed/almost completed.
Tough, I use Discordance on Nemmy. If you watch Otz, you know why.
Honestly I really like discordance. Naturally it's really good on Nemesis, but discordance is a great counter to prove thyself which is a very popular perk these days.
-
Sadly this combo exists because without it perks like prove thyself, and items like toolboxes and brand new parts see to it that gens fly within a matter of minutes regardless of how skilled a killer may be. It's also double trouble for a killer if they have no map pressure.
-
Dead Hard. The perk is too reliant on the server being responsive on your end to work properly. Too many times it never activates for me because the killer's attack was chosen to take priority.
-
I actually discovered this not that long ago. I usually run discordance on my killers because it's the best counter to being gen rushed with prove thyself. When I had it on Nemesis I noticed that the zombies were giving the survivors a harder time than usual. LOL Seeing proof that this is why that was happening will make this permanent on Nemesis from here on out.
-
Deliverance only works if the survivor got a save before they themselves got hooked, and DS only works if the survivor got tunneled. Regardless both perks work as intended. It's a high risk/high reward for both involved. Maybe next time don't go for the person who gets off the hook right next to you.
-
Yeah thanks to all the disabled maps right now, I too have been seeing the same maps over and over again. I played three survivor matches earlier, and two of those three matches were on Ormond.
It's no big surprise that this game is a big buggy mess, but the fact that they've had to disable so many maps is just crazy.

Half of the community think trickster looks ridiculous.
Case in point. Not exactly sure what BHVR was thinking when they implemented this guy into the game. They keep referring to dead by daylight as a horror game, but with Killers like this it's anything but.

The problem is that it might work in similar way. True that we will probably be better matched when there is enough killers/survivors. But what will happen when it takes a while to find similar people? It might match us with different people like it does now.
So the answer is probably play at certain times of the day like now.
When they did tests in the past, they did say it was going to take roughly 10 or so matches to get you set within its ranking system. I imagine the same will be said for this new system.
-
@Shaped said:
Higher wait times=worse games as survivor is what I noticed. Usually 10pm-2am eu. Other times it is insta lobbies and similar ranked teammates.
As a killer lobbies are always fast for me and games are more or less the same. Either clicky swf or chill solos.
Yeah it's funny, when I'm playing solo survivor and I've noticed that the game is taking a while to search for a match, then I know I'm in for a world of hurt. LOL
-
@JHondo said:
I feel ya, I've been grinding tome challenges so save up for Pinhead and finishing survivor challenges has been a beast because of the time of day I can play ("peak hours" in my region) and the mess that rank based match making has been. I'm usually a rank 6 survivor and some games it's me and 4 rank 1s and I do okay but get garbage BP and struggle to complete challenges or I'm the highest rank survivor against a rank 1 killer and we just get clapped. When I play on Sundays and Mondays during the day I have fantastic matches for both killer and survivor, nobody seems to really sweat (except once in a while) and things go pretty good overall.
In my region during the day survivor queue times are instant, but in the evening killer queue times are instant, so when I'm looking to garner a lot of blood points I do so in the evening with killer. However it proves to be an exhausting thing to do because I'm constantly encountering people far more skilled at this game than I. And when you add SWF on top of that, it makes for a miserable experience.
Solo survivor and playing against a SWF as killer is hard enough. I don't need the matchmaking working against me too.

Last name isn't marked put properly. Just be careful, even though accidental that could be taken as naming amd shaming which isn't allowed.
Definitely not intentional. This game's matchmaking is the worst. I dread that I have to wait until Tuesday to encounter better matchmaking.
-
Seriously, F this matchmaking.

Solo survivor was completely unplayable tonight. Not sure how teammates even managed to launch the game. Ended up doing a 4 man SWF.
I wish I had enough friends that play this game. TBH I wish the custom games allowed you to play with bots. It wouldn't be the same, but it would be better than being steamrolled by someone more skilled than you over and over.

Sorry, I don't sweat.
At the risk of sounding like an arrogant #########, my skill floor is just naturally higher than most peoples.
Likewise, why should people be subjected to the agony of high MMR DBD? Do you want all of them to quit? We all know they'll never change it to be more fun and why else would you play a game, if not to have fun?
The way I see it, if you've been playing this game long enough and consistently enough to sustain a red rank, then you won't be playing sweaty because you'll be playing against people of equal skill as you. People with thousands of hours under their belt shouldn't be forced to compete against people with only a few hundred or less.

What kind of loadout are you usually using?
It would make sense to get matched with people that bring strong stuff if you did too
Honestly that's a great point. I had a match where my rank 13 Wraith was facing off against an all red rank SWF. Naturally they walked all over me, but I was like, "WTH?!". I inquired on the forums just why such a thing would happen, and other gamers pointed out that not only did I have a very strong build, but I also had very strong add-ons. If I used that nasty combo against lesser skilled gamers, it would have resulted in a complete wash.
So it does take into account your rank, but it also seems to factor in what you're bringing into the match too.
-
It's the Twins for me. Hearing a little gremlin in your vicinity and watching everyone scatter can make for a pretty funny and entertaining encounter! LOL
-
Being a casual player, I had a much better time when the SBMM was on. I unfortunately have to sweat far too often when I play killer given just how powerful SWF can be. I like this game, but sweating consistently is not enjoyable. Obviously I don't want anyone to experience that, but if you've played this game long enough and consistently enough to be good enough to sustain a red rank, then I don't see what the big deal is. You'll be facing people of similar skill. And making people who have invested thousands of hours play against people who only invested a few hundred doesn't make for a fun matchmaking experience.

It's set to go live the day after Labor Day, so next Tuesday. It's such an odd choice considering it's literally right after an extended weekend.

Your build is fun and I like it as well STBL, Enduring, Brutal, BBQ/Bamboozle.
Also Like BBQ, Devour, Undying, Brutal.
Fire up also works well. Being able to speed up the increase of all actions as generators are completed is a nice thing to have. It's like having brutal strength and bamboozle in one.

Ive found a great build for blight. Oppression, pop goes the wease, eruption and corrupt intervention.
Super fun to run on him and its pretty damn strong
Does oppression and eruption stack? If so, then that's definitely a nasty combo! The only downside is you spend a lot of time kicking generators to get value out of it. Personally I hate kicking generators because that's time I could be using chasing after a survivor, but that's just me.
-

Basement bubba. Hoarder, Franklins, and insidious. Nobody gets my chest.
Apparently Hoarder and Franklin's is a nasty combo to use with Pinhead since it can work on survivors picking up the lament configuration. If you're nowhere within the vicinity you can teleport, however if you're close you'll get a notification, and thanks to Franklin's you'll be able to knock it out of their hands and use it for yourself to immediately start the chain hunt.
-
Correct. Thankfully you won't be robbed of blood points if you are claiming Tome or a daily reward, but any blood points obtained in a match will be lost unfortunately.

Man, that build sounds like so much fun to be honest. I kind of want to try it. I do not have Legion, but honestly, he would almost make it overkill. Lol. I might try it on Micheal or something because it would remind me of how durable he tends to be in the Halloween franchise. He is no Jason, but he is the best we got.
That's why I prefer chase builds on Killers like Michael or Nemesis. They are supposed to be unstoppable forces, and knowing that nothing survivors do is going to stop them from gaining on you it's just straight up a lot of fun!

I mean the same as you, I thought it was in Patchnotes for the Midchapter Patch.
But as I said, they are referring to the Tutorial if I remember correctly. There was a topic about it shortly after the release of the Developer Update.
Yeah this has created all manner of confusion. They specifically stated an "offline" bot mode, and yet the bot modes that can be accessed online were already there prior to the mid chapter update, so I would love to know exactly what they meant in regards to an offline bot mode.
-

This part of the Patchnotes referred to the Tutorial. It looked like it was an accident that it was in the Patchnotes.
Just curious but what do you mean by patch notes? I'm referring to the July developer update, which specifically mentioned an offline bot mode to coincide with what can already be accessed online with the tutorial bot mode.
-
An offline bot mode was supposed to be implemented with the mid chapter update, but there's been no word from BHVR or clarification as to why it never happened. I and others have tried repeatedly to get an answer to no avail. It appears to have been scrapped along with other failed promises like console optimization.
-
And yet Iron Will, UB, DS, and DH in every game is perfectly fine?
-
From what I understand they wanted to implement a third zombie through an iridescent add on, but the last gen consoles were incapable of running it. Sadly, so long as this game continues to run on last generation hardware, the game will continue to be held back from what it could be.
-
The game was never designed with team voice chat, which I think says a lot about how the game is supposed to technically be played. SWF gives you access to multiple perks that you otherwise would be using if you were playing solo. Which is precisely why you can tell when you're playing against solo survivors versus a SWF.
@ThiccBudhha said:
Mmr will address SWF just fine.
Honestly I'll believe it when I see it. They've been talking about the MMR for a few years now with nothing to show for it other than a handful of tests.
