This person gets it
Eh. I have a background is psychology and education, and my wife is a neuroscientist - so I can wax poetic on how our brains work and how physically damaging sustained abuse and bullying can be.
I also do tend to get annoyed at people who will basically tell people with these issues to 'toughen up' and 'sticks and stones' and all that, because what they are actually doing is shifting the blame to the person being wronged, and away from the person doing wrong.
What is also interesting is that I've spent a lot of time with your sort of classically liberal free speech types, and they tend to be some of the nicest people around. Because they understand the importance of free speech, and part of this comes from understanding just how important and impactful our speech can be.

I'm not saying it's acceptable. I'm saying get over it. Who cares what some random online person has said? It's different in the context you use if it was a close friend or a loved one. Then, yes words can hurt allot. But you don't even know these people, so who gives a rip what they say?
I mean in my younger years I learned not to care what others said. Isn't that something you learn when you are older? Not to care what people say or think? If you let people get to you that much then either stop playing or grow a spine so to say.
Not really. It sounds like, if anything, you've probably gotten numb to it (which isn't uncommon, sadly). And that's not a good thing.
I'd probably respond by saying that if the only way you can get enjoyment is by trying to make sure others don't...you're the one at fault and probably need to do some introspection, as this behavior tends to grow out of a deep insecurity on your behalf.
Now, I'm not saying that this describes you, directly. But you are certainly being an apologist for this sort of behavior, which does get my noggin' joggin'.
'Caring what others say'...it's not that intellectualized. It's more just how human brains work (we can get into the actual psychobiological/neurochemical effects of bullying, if you'd like - and how depression works). It's not something people can really just turn off - and if you try to force it (as certain militaries do), you often end up with pretty serious mental health issues later on. Because all you're actually doing is repression.

doesn't need to be timed right if you're the looped of the team. Sabotage to get killers attention andead them on a goose chase as someone else picks them up and someone else on gens
It sounds good in theory. But here's how it tends to play out.
Situation 1: I see you coming in to sabo. I drop and get a free hit, then chase. Maybe you can loop me, but it's unlikely to be forever - and now you've had one person slugged, one person occupied and probably soon to be hooked. I'm ahead of the game.
Situation 2: I either see or anticipate the sabo, you sabo one hook but I have another hook nearby. Now you've wasted time and I still got the hook.
Situation 3: You sneak in, time it perfectly and I lose the survivor, or at the very least don't get a scourged hook. Good job.

Uh. Also, it's just words. Have you ever heard of sticks and stones? If you got someone that mad, have a laugh. Getting so offended by what someone says does nothing. No trophy, no recourse. It's only you that are affected besides the person you pissed off.
So in older terms. Get over it? Being so sensitive to words from a person you don't even know should have no effect on your life. It's kind of part of being an adult. You grow up.
Okay, do you think that it should be acceptable to yell racial slurs at the other team in sports?
How about just refusing to shake their hands after the game?
If not, then all you're doing is quibbling over price.
It's all good and well to say 'sticks and stones'...but people don't work like that. And as you get older, you come to realize that more. If anything, recognizing that language is the primary method by which we understand the world and thus has the power to both cause pain and impart happiness...that's something you learn as you get older.
I also know that I deal with enough frustrating parents and students every day to not want to deal with them in my hobbies too - and I see no benefit in being an apologist for people acting like butts in basically any context.

Seriously. BHVR needs to make it so that the 4 stack sweats need to wait in a long ass queue to match up with the Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer AlcRing Blights and Floods of Rage/MYC/Resonance/DMS Nurses or just scrap the whole MMR system and go back to the old ranking system, tweak the emblems a bit to make it harder to rank up, and lower people's rank more on reset. People that just want to play spooky Myers or Clown or Trickster or Wraith for fun shouldn't be matched up against all these Team Oracle wannabes
As I and others have suggested...just do what basically every other game does.
When you queue up with friends, your MMR gets artificially inflated proportional to the size of the squad. This allows the advantages of information sharing and coordination to be offset by matching you against a stronger opponent.

I watched a streamer use WoO with Open-Handed and it was pretty much just constant knowledge of where the killer was. You'd see a pallet fall and then disappear, as a survivor dropped it and killer destroyed it.
...Huh. I like Kindred with Open Handed, but never considered it with WOO.

Sure its niche and rarely useful, but those times it is can completely flip the game on its head from a runaway loss to a killer playing catchup
The thing about sabos is that you have to time them just right, otherwise I'll drop and probably down you too. These days I'm actually quite happy to see a sabo-happy player, because even if it works once, all it takes is a single mistake and you've lost the game.

Killer side I'll just randomly use perks like Furtive Chase and Nemesis with Rancor. I'm much more willing to try new things on my Trapper.
Visionary is fantastic for avoiding 3gen situations.
Soul Guard is great, but a lot of people have gradually moved away from hexes.

DOTA is the real MOBA, don't push your anime waifu bs on me, we got tougher than nails competition than your overhyped cartoon smash bros. except the only thing you smash is the recall button.
I play Heroes of the Storm, when I feel a hankering for a MOBA (although in fairness that's because I like to duo with the missus and it's the MOBA she enjoys most).
That said - if by 'real MOBA', you mean a janky mod for a 20 year old game that nobody but a few weird, crusty vetarans plays anymore then...sure?
If you're talking about DOTA 2, Valve absolutely bans people for being nasty, so I'm not sure what your point is.

Although it can definitely be at no value in some matches, it can be so dynamic in others! I've saved so many of my friends in a bad area by telling them to loop around the locker real quick & vice versa.
It's also fun getting some killers paranoid to the point where they would try to avoid lockers that I purposely run by even though no one was in there!
I wish it could get some small buffs, but it's a nice perk overall <3
Apply directly to the forehead!
Eh...I see it occasionally and it usually works once, then I anticipate it. Once you know it's in play, it's pretty useless. It is an extremely fun perk though.

This game is meant to push survivors and killers to their limit and you complain that there is toxicity? what highly competitive multiplayer game does not produce toxicity?
Basically all of them - which is where moderation comes into play.
LoL is my best example - the addition of the Tribunal saw what was, at the time, probably the most unpleasant gaming community in mainstream gaming become actually pretty tolerable - and one of the reasons why LoL will likely always be *the* MOBA.

Kindred. I don't know why so few Solo Q survivors running this. It's so sad. It helps your team a lot and it helps you even more. Also I love seeing camping killers (mainly bubba haha) so people can do gens and the killer have no idea we can see them camping.
The problem with Kindred is that multiple is a complete waste - so using it sometimes feels like a bit of a dice roll.

Nurse is okey with her speed. Huntress, Spirit etc. are okey because they have strong powers. M2 killers is good with 115% because they can play around loops. But what about stealth and m1 killers?
Would it so bad if Wraith, Trapper, Myers, Ghostface etc have different speed? 120% for example. This killers have nothing to stop loops. Trapper has traps but they are garbage most of times. Do you think that would be healthy or so op?
It's not a bad idea, but would futz with balance so much that it wouldn't probably take more effort than it's worth.

For survivor: Renewal
Getting it to activate can be a real pain sometimes and against some killers like plague it's a dead perk but outside of that, not having to worry about being healed off the hook is such a good feeling. It can also help with tunnelling somewhat since if you can last 20 seconds in chase you'll get healed by it
For killer: Agitation
It saves you so much time and it's such a feel-good perk
Agitation and I had an affair a bit back, and it's a really great perk - just a hard one to find a spot for sometimes, unless I'm also running Starstruck.

As someone who's been gaming since the days when having the high score at the local arcade was a big deal in terms of nerd cred - it's the 'generations of today' that make COD lobbies so unpleasant.
I also have never understood the idea of 'I get to be really unpleasant to other people in situations where they have zero recourse' is in any way a free speech defense. This is the stuff that people who want to suppress free speech tend to reach for as justification.

Oh then in that case... having bad or good manners in a game matters? No offense but that sounds ridiculous. In game actions should not correspond to real life. You can't have good or bad manners is a video game. Especially in a game where you are tying to mest hook people. (No means to sound disrespectful towards you btw. My wording isn't amazing)
In a PvP game?
Yes, absolutely.
Because there are real people behind those avatars, trying to enjoy a hobby to take their mind off all the unpleasant people they had to deal with at work that day.
Games with good communities tend to get new players to stick around, and the paradigm of 'oh it's just the internet, if you don't enjoy 12 year olds screaming slurs into your ears at 4am there must be something wrong with you' is decades out of date.

The first day felt awesome. Had some really good games as Survivor and as Killer.
Day 2 wasn't horrible. It was really hit and miss. Sometimes the games were chill and not sweaty, other times they were atrocious.
Day 3 was horrible. Constant map offerings, very experienced Survivors, same perks. Felt like the first couple weeks of MMR.
Mm. I think that the fact my experience was essentially the opposite demonstrates that 'day 2' was the sweet spot.
Day 1 was bedlam. I went from complete newbies to a 4000 hour bully squad. Queues almost instant. It felt like ranks again - which will be fun for veterans looking for chill (see: easier) games, but not so much fun for everyone else.
Day 2 felt great. Most of the matches I had, win or lose were quite close. It felt like I was facing off against people with a level of skill/experience close to mine - and the hours bore that out (only one player with substantially more hours than me, none with substantially less).
Day 3 felt the most even - but the queue times got a bit silly.

Sorry bm'ing? Beaming? Like with a flashlight. Sorry I'm not clear on what that means. But if you do mean beaming... it's an in game mechanic that I frustrating towards killers, but it isn't toxic cause flashlights are in the game for a reason
BM = bad manners. Basically acting in a way to deliberately annoy or frustrate other players. This usually refers to something done in victory (the equivalent of refusing to shake your opponents hand and instead spitting in their face) but can also refer to general nastiness in the game.

I've always found ironic how teammates tbaggin each other (most of the time) means politeness, like when u start the game and you spawn with someone and u tbag to say hi or after healing to say thanks, and then there's the same movement against a killer but it has a very different meaning and intention
Well, yes? All meaning is contextual. That's...how language works :).
If I use a specific word starting with a 'c' when speaking to my friends, and the same word in an argument with a stranger at a bar - it's going to carry a different meaning.
@toxik_survivor said:

My argument is that you can't be toxic through a game. Like... it's just a game. How are can someone be toxic by crouching up and down? Like how do people think tbaging is toxic I don't understand. But you can be toxic through chat or vc etc. I find taunting me in game hilarious because they are trying to trigger me through a game.
Wow, I totally agree!
I mean, what is a handshake? Just waving a piece of meat up and down. And spitting in someone's face is just projecting moisture from my body to another persons. No idea why everyone was so upset when, rather than shaking hands with the opponent after I won, I spat in their faces. They should have been grateful for my donation!
Hell, yelling racial epithets at that goalie...nothing wrong with that, I was just making the air vibrate a certain way. What's wrong with making the air vibrate? Why was I thrown out of the stadium and fired from my team? No idea why everyone is so 'butthurt'...
Injustice, I say! Nothing has meaning absent context, so there is no such thing as rudeness!
(In all seriousness - yes, we assign commonly understood meaning to things, be they words or actions, based on context and a vaguely Jungian shared understanding. Let's get real here - you know that teabagging the killer, especially after the game is being unsportsmanlike).

Scourge Hook: PR is massively overrated, It's too RNG and only helps the stronger killers who can get downs fast anyway.
I disagree. I use PR on basically any killer that doesn't have powerful mobility.
Pair it with DMS on Nemesis, Pinhead or Artist and it's pure evil.
But the main point of PR is that it doesn't just give regression - it gives regression without you having to go over and kick a gen. That can save so, so much time.

That would be considered toxic yes. That is abusing the person that is getting blocked. Ok so mostly all in game mechanics are not toxic, but some are, I should of clarified on that.
Shrug.
To me, the mindset is the exact same - all that's different is the execution. In both cases, you are extracting enjoyment out of making another player frustrated IRL.
Can some people be oversensitive, or go out looking for things to complain about? Sure. That's the other side of the issue.
That said - if you are doing something specifically to be annoying, chances are that you know you aren't behaving appropriately and if you persist, that says a lot more about you as a person than it does the person who gets annoyed.
-
@Heartbound said:
Trash talk and taunting used to be a real life thing, something to intentionally throw you off your game by tilting you. "There's no crying in baseball", etc.
Bullying a player is something I'd consider toxic, but a lot of people get upset when being taunted and don't want to play after it happens so from a business standpoint I get why that would be unappealing. I'd still like survivors/killers to get flavor emotes that go beyond "oh no he crouched at me". Imagine running to the exit gate to shoo a survivor out of the trial and he'd just standing there shooting you the bird.
Weirdly, that 'trash talk is common in sports' thing hasn't been true for a very long time. Mostly, being unsportsmanlike - especially after a match - will get you sanctioned. There are some sports where it happens, but these are at least part show - boxing, MMA and the like - where rivalries are half of the appeal. And even then - you shake hands before and after the bout.

Sounds fun. Basically going against a nurse every match. No killer is unplayabley (not a word but who cares) bad. Alot of killers that just by first glance seem to have a low skill cap, actually all have their same skill ceiling and all of them can be played to their best potential resulting in best results.
Also perks are obviously a huge factor depending on the killer. Like a Michael can be an amazing killer with the right perks and right playstyle, it's just harder to figure it out.
I truly don't believe it's the killers power and if it's weak or strong that decides what teir the killer is in, but instead how well you utilize it. Huntress can be absolute trash if you can't aim, but myers can be amazing if you utilize teir 3 correctly
Eh...I disagree.
At lower MMRs, basically any killer can do well. Nurse needs a bit of experience, as does Trickster and Huntress...but so be it.
The issue is that some killers sort of cap out. Watch Otz playing Myers against decent survivors on a tough map - there really isn't that much he can do, even with infinite T3. I'd love to hear how Myers - arguably the most straight forward killer in the game is harder to figure out than, say, Huntress or Pyramid Head.
Yes, skill always plays a part. But I don't know if I'd say that an equally skilled Pig main and an equally skilled Huntress main are going to see similar results.

People say something is "toxic" when mostly it ain't toxic at all. Being toxic is when you are abusing someone (in an intentional manner to get them mad). And do not start to say that tbaging or flashlight clicking or hitting people on the hook is toxic cause it ain't at all. Toxic would be when someone messages you after the game verbally abusing you.
I had a survivor message me (I was her teamate) and I was running killer around whole game and got a flashlight save, eventully got hooked and when she took me off she was running away so I clicked my flashlight at her to tell her to heal me. She messaged me and said that that was toxic and the game dosnt need people like me. That was nothing close to toxicity.
Overall people get butthurt so much these days and it's over a video game💀💀.
We just need to understand that using any in game mechanics is not toxic.
Sigh.
Okay, looking at the first paragraph here makes me not want to believe the second paragraph. But yes - trying to 'get someone mad' is what toxicity means - you are being nasty in the game to try and make them annoyed IRL in the hopes that they'll be distracted. Is...that really something we should be promoting?
Also - Any in game mechanic...wait, so I can bodyblock someone inside that room on The Game and go AFK...and by your definition, that wouldn't be a problem?
How about we all just manner up?

Which is fine, she's not literally broken, she's perfectly playable. I even like her slightly better than Wraith. But hey, if statistically she needs a buff I wouldn't turn it down! 🙂
Which is...honestly pretty daft. Trickster was released in a pretty wretched state too - but got a lot of fiddling trying to make him decent.
Onryo has a lot of stuff I like - but far too much comes down to her visual and audio design. Mechanically...she feels 3 years out of date. With how sophisticated survivors have gotten, even at intermediate levels - a killer with no reliable antiloop, a janky pseudo-stealth inferior to almost any other stealth in the game and a mediocre, RNG traversal tool...just doesn't cut it.
Artist really made me hopeful regarding new killer design. I know some people find her a bit boring, but her kit was creative, intuitive and powerful - without being OP.

Boil Over? Nerfed to please the streamers, now only usable in a very specific map with swf on comms.
Parental guidance nerfed before the release, useless.
Circle of Healing? Gone, maybe swf can make it work with great effort.
Meanwhile killers getting meta perks with every release.

- Lucky break was useless on release, then it got buffed - but essentially perma scratch mark removal was too strong, so it got a duration reduction, which was then buffed.
- Boil Over is still decent, and needed to be changed as it could be used to take matches hostage on demand.
- PG, meh. You're being hyperbolic.
- Infinite buffs for killers...say what?
- Yes, this game has SWF so it needs to be balanced around SWF. Solos are getting some love soon, but that genie has been out of the bottle for ages now.
- Would you like some cheese?

People REALLY like to overreact. The perk will still be meta. Even for solos.
This.

It was also a temporary event for fun.
Crazy concept but remember fun? It's the thing people are supposed to have when they play games. Anyone complaining about snowmen needed to go touch grass
It was plenty of fun for survivors.
The simple fact that they didn't test it and the snowmen could be used to completely break certain killers' kits was ridiculous. Halloween had stuff that was fun for both sides.

I wouldn't go that far. She's better than Trapper, probably Pig. Excepting GF and Legion (as their reworks look interesting), I'd say that yeah - Trapper, Pig, maybe Clown. So that puts her about on par with Freddy, either heading up 'D' tier or low 'C'.
The more I play her personally, and the more I see survivors starting to intelligently turn off a handful of TVs during the match - she's pretty crap.

Hard disagree on day 1. I was bored out of my mind on killer. Survivors completed 6 gens total against me across 4 games. Two games were 4k at 5 gens.
Survivor was completely unplayable for me. Teammates were clearly still learning basics.
I would quit DbD if they implemented the day 1 test logic. Day 3 was the best for me. I want the toughest games possible.
I'd agree that 3 was the most even for me too, as an intermediate-ish player. What got under my skin though was the queues I had on both killer and survivor. I don't mind watching something while I wait, but it is aggravating to wait 3-6 minutes for a game only to have an insta DC or an AFKer.
2 felt like a happy medium.

There's no point in them oh look I can screw over killers by healing infront of them way quick or oh look I can just remove a hex totem and yeah Scourge hooks same thing oh look I can just constantly go to the same hook and make the game super unfun like people can just Sabo it but the major difference Boon's are perment and Scourge hooks aren't best way to make it far make Boons one use.
I know people will whine saying then it's making the game killer sided.
DS,DH,Unbreakable you have those or how about this just heal teammates normally I've seen more killer nerfs then survivor nerfs.
This is also because MMR as to be more broken then old mmr where old MMR at least tried to make matches good this MMR all I see is someone wasted tossing in some random amount of numbers together and just saying yep there's a match.
...Zuh?
Most boons are okay. Shadowstep is an annoying one (it can be useless or it can hard counter your build/addons with no way to play around it) and CoH is an abomination (but getting nerfed). The rest are meh.
Scourge Hooks...I think you're talking about Pain Resonance, because all the other SH perks are mediocre. PR is strong, but relies a lot on RNG or dedicating a slot to Agi.

I don't know about how everyone else feels but the first day of the mmr testing the matches were far and away the most enjoyable. I really hope they move forward by doing whatever they did that day again.
I was the opposite.
First day was absolute bedlam. I went from very easy games to unwinnable games with no rhyme or reason.
Day 2 felt right. Queues were okay, matches were all pretty close, win or lose.
Day 3 felt slightly more even but the queues were vicious.

He always whines when things do not go his way. Did you watch hardcore survivor? He had a really bratty attitude. DH does not determine skill lol! It Is a game not a competitive sport! Just have fun when you play, or go play something else...
Was that the one where he got the extremely BM team who annoyed him after the game?

exactly they feel bad so they come on here and scream into the void until the devs give into them very mature
People provide feedback you agree with: 'OMG this is genius, if the devs don't implement it they don't care about the game 100% confirmed'.
People provide feedback you disagree with: 'OMG this is just entitled whining, you should probably be kicked off the forums'.
Ah, internet - never change.
- In all seriousness though, nobody is screaming into the void. They are providing feedback on the game, based on their enjoyment of it. In this case (I'm guessing your OP is thinly veiled QQ about the COH nerf), the perk was obviously broken and negated entire killer toolkits. It was extremely frustrating for killers to play around, particularly on maps where it could cover basically the entire thing from a single, very time-consuming position to snuff and needed to be changed.

I think we both know the answer to that!
That killer players have felt that this game is designed in a way that makes the role frequently unfun, and that this is compounded by how unfriendly and BM survivor players tend to be in victory?
Yep, I completely agree. Well done.

you guys have a lot of free time? Did I get It right?
Close...
Now, why do you think we have a lot of free time? As in - if we aren't spending our valuable downtime playing the game and are instead coming to the forums moreso than survivor players, what is the most common-sense explanation for why this is?

But it's not that it's getting nerfed. It's just the approach taken.
If there's one thing that DBD deserves to be commended for, it's the incredible complexity of its mechanics. DBD is comprised of a vast amount of component mechanics. From the big things like generators, hooks and exit switches to smaller components like survivors' breathing, footsteps and the red stain.
That's also what I want to highlight with CoH. Compared to its cousin perks like Desperate Measures and Botany Knowledge, CoH, as a boon, has way more cogs in its wheelhouse. Which is why it's disappointing to me that CoH is simply getting a heal speed nerf.
Addressing only the heal speed, I feel, is going to make this a herculean task that will probably be abandoned at some point. I suspect that CoH, with only heal speed adjustments, will continue to be either overpowered, or an unappealing pick next to its less complicated counterparts. With the competition it has, it's going to be difficult to find the right spot for it.
What I would suggest instead is looking at all the other cogs at play in CoH as a boon. There's a bless time, there's a radius restriction, there's the ability to replant or relocate it.
ALL of these could stand to be addressed as a means to find CoH its own spot. And not only would this give the developers more space to address CoH and finetune it with less direct competition from other healing perks, but it would also open up design space down the road for other boons.
What if, for example, CoH incurred a 90 second cooldown if it got snuffed? Or what if it reduced boon radius from 24 meters to 18 meters? What if it increased bless time from 14 seconds to 21? What if all of these parameter changes set a precedent for other boons, too? Work out a system where every boon's worst stat is considered when multiple boons are picked, to prevent complicated perk-stacking.
All of this would create space for the devs to come up with new ideas, possibly expanding options for boon effects, too.
Just slapping a -25% on the heal speed is comparatively uninspired and cheap, and doesn't do anything to expand on the possibilities of boons as a design element.
I agree, but at least it's...something.
The core issue is in the design of boons. Being impossible for the killer to ever really get rid of, and being able to blanket entire maps from a hard-to-access position (RPD, Eyrie, IWOM etc.) just makes them a problem. The effect has to be pretty minor, or else they are game breaking.

Due to popular demand from the killers...
they never listen to survivors.Like y'all keep giving great and good perks to killers then we get "injured survivors can see your aura and you heal 10% faster" Yall needa be 50/50 with your community
What's next,adding a cooldown to boons 🤣
BHVR: 'Were making an adjustment to a perk that was brokenly OP that reduces it all the way down to 'this is still really strong'.

I see a lot of whining basically about survivor perks I guess twitter Is mostly survivor mains its more fun over there lol
Forums tend to attract people who want to give feedback (see: criticism) about the game.
If this demographic is represented primarily by killer players here, despite survivors being far more numerous...what does that tell you about the state of the game?
-
It's still going to be a strong perk, but at least it won't be a complete nightmare as an attrition based killer.
-
Thus far, it feels like I'm getting matched with better allies as survivor and a lot of weak killers, or straight up AFK killers.
As a killer, my games have been...uneven. Possibly even more so than before testing. Match 1 will be a really close, even game. Match 2 and 3 will be against a slaughter squad. Match 4 will be a one sided stomp from me.
I will say that queue times have been a bit faster.

I'm not the one to normally complain a lot in here, but I've been trying to complete the rift by attempting the killer challenges, but the fun is really REALLY being stripped off by the MANY Dead Hards in every single match.
I understand that the devs mentioned that they're looking into it, but goodness playing killer is so draining.
The amount of times I was able to pull off a nice mind game only for it to be denied by DH really is infuriating.
Killer mains out there now have my full respect.
I remember someones' suggestion a while back by either removing its distance or invulnerability and I think that was a pretty nice idea.
When this silly perk is finally removed, it's going to be so interesting to see how the game changes.
I know for a fact that I basically play around it even if I'm not sure it's being used (much like BT and DS). And yeah, it creates some absolutely obnoxious 'I just lost the game to a button and I don't know what I could have done differently' moments.
When I play survivor, I avoid it. SB and Lithe are usually my go-to now.
