Seems like the obvious compromise here is rewarding Prestige with cosmetics.

I've got no hate for DBD's money-making. Auric cells keep the Entity alive and growing, that's not lore, that's reality. Cosmetics could be cheaper, but I'm sinking so many hours into this game, I'm getting my money's worth over and over. Playing this game all the time saves me lots of money because I'm not buying other games at all. I hope they ride this cash cow for the rest of my life, just so I'll always have the option of playing.

But the Devs aren't perfect, this was clearly a bad call. Fixing a mistake is the best PR a business can do because it can be done so cheaply. They're in the business of making cool cosmetics, recoloring a few is nothing.

I'm sure they didn't think it through, they just didn't realize the importance of things like that. Doesn't matter if most players don't get there, striving to get there is the point. The fact that most don't get there is why the cosmetic is so valuable and obviously necessary. Many of us just like striving, striving players are great for business.

This is a tiny amount of work to make something that encourages playing more. If people are already playing to get there with no reward, how many would if there was a half-decent reward or even a cool one?

Especially now that the whole thing's blown up. Now it's free publicity, people who might not have even known P cosmetics were a thing will see these. All DBD players will find out. Posts will make the front page of Reddit, etc. Marketing, player retention, good PR, for nearly nothing.

    So yeah, it's gotta happen.

It is very unlikely they would make more cosmetics as prestige rewards, older licensed characters specifically would be an issue as without re-negotiation for each of them, they probably can't do it for those characters.

  • Wouldn't be possible no matter what because as you said, they're both licensed.

  • Used to main Claudette since the early days of dbd, now i main Nicolas Cage who has without a doubt become my favorite Survivor along with his perks.

I'm not sure what you mean as "got it wrong". For a sequel/reboot I think they did a great job. Took it in an interesting direction. If they had just done a carbon copy of the original movie they might as well not bothered to make it.

You don't need to do a carbon copy to be more faithful to the original.

What i mean by ''got it wrong'' is that alot of the elements and themes from the first movie that made it what it was is either absent or is changed into something completely different in the remake, including Candyman as a character who is changed into something completely different from what he actually was in the first movie or what he represented there.

The first sequel (as forgettable as it was) still remains more true to the elements of the first movie, as unlike the remake, it don't try to pull some preachy ham-fisted social commentary about racial inequality as the main focus of the movie while slapping Candyman's name over it.

Don't get me wrong however, there's nothing wrong with doing those types of movie, it's just not what Candyman is mainly about and would have worked better as it's own movie instead of a Candyman movie.

  • Remember, all killers need to be able to carry and hook people, how do you intend to do that with a raptor?

  • What about skinless men and women?

  • Nicolas Cage as the main protagonist, deuteragonist and antagonist (as well as all side characters)

I'll call it The Cage: a dead by daylight movie

In regards to the TV shows MGM had the book rights to The Silence of the Lambs while Bryan Fuller's production had the book rights to Red Dragon, Hannibal, and Rising.

I disagree they "got it wrong". I heard about all the negativity about the movie before seeing it. As the original is one of my all time favorite movies I was worried and was expecting no to like it. I really enjoyed it.

I mean, good for you that you enjoyed the movie, however i fail to see how they didn't get it wrong.

Is it the same with the remake (because I feel like they would opt for that one just like NoES?)

also (I guess spoiler alert) doesn’t she become her own version of Candyman at the end so could be a legendary killer cosmetic instead of surv?

Nah, the Candyman remake gets it wrong entirely on what made Candyman who he was, it focuses more on the injustice of black people and turns Candyman into some avenger instead, even the original 2 sequels (especially the 3rd movie which is just a cheesy slasher movie) wasn't this far removed from the first movie's essence.

Helen does die at the end and becomes like Candyman as well, so you're not wrong on that part be her as a skin, however her as a Survivor would allow Candyman to carry her like he does in the movie or tell her to "Be my victim."

Also Bhvr was forced to pick the nightmare remake as that's what they were offered in a "take it or leave it" type deal, if they could then they would have gone with the original. Since all the Candyman movies are owned by different companies, the only way bhvr would go for the remake is if they can't get any of the original movies.

  • @Mooks said:

I still want Candyman and I guess he would make sense for a killer only chapter?

I still haven’t seen any of the movies, but I want to see the power revolving around bees. And possibly mirrors for teleportation?

It’s confirmed to be a chapter without survivor. I personally wanna see Hannibal and Will Graham from the show someday… though Clarice would be great as well (wasn’t there some Licensing problems with her character for the tv show?)

Without Helen as a Survivor, a Candyman chapter wouldn't feel complete as the essence of the first Candyman movie is that of a slowburn dark romance supernatural horror movie.

  • I'm pretty whatever about SM and Feng getting skins, as long as they look good (which i think these does), then i'm happy.

  • idk about that one chief, i find the quality to have gone up more than down.

  • You're playing a live service game, which means nothing is set in stone and everything is subject to change, including dlc characters.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/391506/i-think-tcm-combined-w-extreme-community-toxicity-is-the-reason-this-game-will-finally-die

The game isn't "dying" as in "sprawled on the floor with their guts spilled out", but it nicked an artery and is haemorrhaging. We all feel it, everyone knows that something changed, a lot of players vie for this or that balance change, but no one really hits the core of the problem.

Well, I figured it all out, just listen (haha, don't gimme that look): the audience and player base has FAR outskilled the games base machanics and is constantly pullying at its seams, picking it appart with new broken builds or tactics that were never even imagined at the start. A casual player of today has so much game knowledge, map awareness, game sense, techs, if you were to throw them into a 2016 or 2017 game it would look like they were cheating. Ant thats just a casual. You can try to balance and handle things differently all you want, but you can't take the skills out of the player base. And all BHVR can do is balance everything at the razors edge, but one slip and one half of the population suffers while the other will mercilecly hammer down their momentary advantage and living the moment. Yolo hard, because tomorrow that fun high will be gone.

What could save this game were a full, dedicated health update: ditch the next chapter and dedicate fully 3-6 month to make the game fun again. DBD could need a big, hard reset that establishes a few new hard rules and caps. You wan't killers not to tunnel? Then use a combination of the carrot and the stick. Right now, everytime I cornered and downed a survivor on death hook at, lets say 3 gens, and I didn't seal the deal but left them on the floor to be picked up, ie gave them another chance, this game back to bite me, because 4 healthy survivors are impossible to defend against. How could this be solved? With something like giving the killer old BBQ blood point boni for each hooked survivor that only goes up as long as no one died, but also giving the survivors some sort of debuffs for each hook while no one died. On the survivors end they get increased repair speeds and maybe +1/2/3% permanent haste for each dead survivor. Essentially, a killer who plays for 9 hooks before the first kill will get rewarded with BP and debuffs holding the survivors back, while the survivors get a chance to reset. A killer who tunnels will get mediocre BP gains and a harder time. This is just a rough sketch, but the general idea that I would advocate, ie device a system that rewards the good behaviour and sorta punishes the bad one.

Then we got the perk bloat. Maybe we could condense all the perks we got and take a hard look at them and do the following: move over a couple of them into the general use category and pick one signature perk for each survivor and killer. Thats their perk that they come with and it should be quite strong or cool or bend some of the rules. One signature perk per character will open up much more design space, as they don't have to come up with three perks per character. Each character have their own signature perk equipped and can equip two other signature perks and one general use perk. The signature perk us unlocked with prestiging the character to P3. Maybe we could have two versions of the signature perk, but that would already eat into the bloat reduction aspect.

Last but not least the game needs some hard caps on gen repair speed, heal speed, regression, haste, vault speed etc. While one trick pony builds that take one of this aspects to absurd levels can be fun, it also breaks the game in a mostly unfun way for the opposition. Its best to have some caps that everyone knows and don't later powercreep them out with new perks that break them.

This is just some general ideas of mine, but the game can't go forward like it used to be at this point, we all feel it, and I think a big reset would be the best approach.

Sorry but no, dbd does need more changes but many of these suggested ideas just ain't it chief.

Also apart from disagreeing with your idea of a big reset, a 3-6 month content drought would harm the game alot more than it'll benefit.

Old slinger was never broken. He crept up on people because of a perk + low TR music. Bumping up TR audio was an easier solution instead of nerfing so people could actually hear it before he was in shooting range.

His addons got nerfed for being overused and there's absolutely no argument on that, without touching on the fact that the rest of his addons were absolutely useless in more than half the scenarios you'd be faced with. They nerfed them for 0 reason other than popularity instead of just reworking his other addons to actually do something useful.

His "quickscope" was something that took time to actually get right (you don't see Nurse being gutted despite her having one of the most unfair abilities in the game) you landed the shot you were rewarded and if you didn't you were HEAVILY punished. How is that not fair if not a little weak on slingers side.

His range was higher, yes i'll give you that but unless you live your life playing shooters nobody was hitting 18m shots in every single game especially not with how tiny the hitbox on the spear is. The range argument is irrelevant since in most cases when you chase a survivor you were hitting them in the exact same situations Xeno does (at a window or pallet)

turrets even if placed properly still take time to set up. 5 seconds spent setting up a turret is 5 seconds not on a gen. 4 survivors doing that at the start of the match means you just wasted 20 seconds of the survivors time doing nothing but existing. Repeat this for each turret spent setting up and unlike Slinger Xeno has map mobility on top of being a faster killer.

Xeno can do basically anything Slinger can but better there's absolutely no reason to play him right now over Xeno other than personal preference of fun, which isn't a bad thing mind you, but it's not fair at all

The problem with old Slinger was that he could repeatedly zoom in and out at a split second without any downsides, leading the majority of Slinger players to use & abuse that method during chases and as a result, Survivors would be locked into a lose-lose situation no matter what.

The typical scenarios goes like this: Slinger would zoom for a split second during chase and the following would usually play out as a result.

    1. The Survivor don't zigzag and gets hit from a shot.
    2. The Survivor does zigzag and as a result, loses some distance on the killer, Slinger would then repeat the process of baiting his shots until either
    • A. Has caused the Survivor to lose so much distance from zigzagging that Slinger gets a basic attack hit

    or

    • B. They force the Survivor to vault and get hit from a shot there because they've been forced into doing so as they can't do anything else to escape Slinger.

Xeno does not come even remotely close to Old Slinger at all because unlike Old Slinger, Xeno cannot bait it's shots constantly like Old Slinger did which is the main important difference between the two, hitting over vaults and pallets is not any different from any other range killer, who also can't bait their shots either as easily as Old Slinger could or force Survivors into a lose-lose situation during chase the same way Old Slinger did so easily.

Also old Slinger was not that hard to master, i know because i used to main him and i also know how annoying he was to face for Survivors as back before his nerf, his split second quickscope was a frequent topic of discussion on the forum. You could not go a day without someone making a complaint thread about it, those complaints threads continued all the way right up until his nerf.

He may not have been Nurse levels of broken, but he was without a doubt overtuned and unfun to face for alot of people.

If anyone has a foot fetish, it's this community and bhvr knows this, if something sells then they're gonna do more of it.

Supply and Demand as they call it.

  • OP asking the important questions here.

  • This reminds of one time back in 2017 i think, where an exploit on old Crotus was discovered that allowed Survivors to get out on the outer side of the wall near the staircase and walk around high above where no killer at the time with the exception Huntress could reach them, essentially holding the game hostage.

Back then, bhvr would temporarily ban anyone caught using said exploit until it was fixed since the killswitch feature didn't exist.

If the killswitch feature still didn't exist today, I think they would have temporarily banned people who uses this exploit as well.

Good for those that think so, that doesn't change the fact that what someone finds best or worst is still a matter of subjectivity.

Careful with guaranteeing things you're basing purely off your own bias, especially when you can't back it up with any official statistics that covers a big enough percentage of the community.

Also i'm gonna say this as my own opinion, for all the amazing community cosmetics there are, there are plenty of bad or mediocre ones as well.

It's not subjective, community cosmetics are far more popular. Look at the data mr developer

What data? The vocal % on twitter that talk about how they like specific community cosmetics? they don't represent the entire community, let alone half of it.

Also funny how you keep assuming i'm a dev just because i disagree with what you're saying, do you also assume that what you're saying is a universally agreed upon thing in the community no matter what?

You must be a dev lol. I'm not buying a cosmetic that looks like the survivor was killed 3 days ago.

Then don't, i'm not telling you what to buy, i'm simply stating that details such as blood, mud and dirt has been part of the game's aesthetic since day one and that dirty cosmetics are more aesthetically fitting than some clean eye candy cosmetics.

Um at the beginning of a match there's no reason to have blood and mud on you. Perhaps after being injured or something? I'd ask devs to look at the stats from sales on each cosmetic. I can guarantee its lower on the stained ones. People want cute cosmetics.

Um at the beginning of a match there's no reason to have blood and mud on you. Perhaps after being injured or something?

Yes, but seeing as we don't have a dynamic blood and mud system to dirty cosmetics up as the trial progresses, this is the best alternative.

I'd ask devs to look at the stats from sales on each cosmetic. I can guarantee its lower on the stained ones. People want cute cosmetics.

People will buy eye candy regardless if it is dirtied up or not, but regardless of that, clean cosmetics looks out of place for a life and death situation where you run and vault through buildings, ruins or just through elements such as water, snow, mud and dirt to escape the killer, If we had a way to dirty cosmetics up through the trials then i'd be more inclined to have clean clothing, but since we don't have that, it's best to keep them out and actually have cosmetics that looks like you've used it to escape from a life threatening situation.

Blood, Mud and Dirt have been part of this game's aesthetic since day one, it should continue to be so.

I say it again, we're running for our lives, not walking down some catwalk during a fashion show or participating in some photoshoot.

  •  Most of them have blood splatter, rips and tears, look like they've been dragged through the mud.

As they should have to them, in fact all cosmetics should have that to them to actually look the part.

After all, Survivors are running for their lives, not participating in some fashion show.

Have you seen the old weekly dev streams? There they answered questions on a weekly basis. Showed us what they are working on. Spoke about hot topics from the forum. etc.

I really miss those times. It felt more like they were connected to the community.

And dbd was not nearly as big back then, was not on multiple consoles, did not have more aspects to consider during development and did not have a set schedule for chapters, midchapters and hotfixes.

They were more open with the community because it was easier to promise stuff or talk about stuff back then.

With how the game is now, it's alot harder to say or promise anything that is still in development because the number of things to priorities have increased exponentially along with all the uncertainties that follows now.

  • None of them.

Saving any of the killers would be counter-productive as they would just try and kill you.

Saving any of the Survivors would mean they would just return to the trials and continue being subjugated to all the agony, death and terror it includes, as far as i'm concerned, saving them only delays the inevitable anyway.

  • No, never again do i want to see Old Freddy, i genuinely hope he stays buried and dead.

I much rather want current Freddy to get some well needed QOL changes.

  • The Entity

It is the true overarching main antagonist of the franchise.

However i imagine Trapper will be used as the main obstacle to the protagonists.

  • Seeing as we've only gotten stuff from the first 3 games in the franchise, i'm just gonna go off on that currently we're only gonna get characters from those games atm.

Which means we're missing a grand total of 5 males & 4 females before we have every major character and side character that aren't either children or monsters from those games in dbd.

As far as female skins goes, since we have Maria as a skin now who is arguably the main antagonist of SH2, i wanna see bhvr go all the way and bring in SH 1 & 3 main antagonists Dahlia Gillespie and Claudia Wolf as legendary skins.

  • Might be a good idea to pin those posts.

This game won't be dead until you can't play it anymore, if you're going off player count this game has been dying since a few months from the original resident evil chapter with nemesis, the all time peak on steam was 105,000 and now we're around 30,000 and we've lost players even after a major license back to back with nic cage and alien, the game is still playable though and as long as the servers stay on the game is technically alive, but even if dbd were to shut down tomorrow did it really die whenever it controlled an entire genre for nearly a decade? I would say it ran its course as a solid game instead of died

Even if it were to die tomorrow, people would still remember the game and some would also lament it's demise as they would miss playing it.

Happened with Friday the 13th, Last Year, Evolved and Deathgarden to name a few after they all died, same would happen with TCM & DBD if they were to die as well.

inventing rocket launcher is too much work. your inventing a premier camping mechanic that is similar to trickster's main event or leatherface chainsaw at the hook.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3532241#Comment_3532241

i don't think direct sprint mechanic would be good idea because of homogenizes killer powers. if you are going add mobility to nemesis then the mobility should be unique. a unique idea could be something like a grapple hook mechanic where you can tag his whip on objects. you pull yourself towards object similar to how wesker's virulent bound works. something like that would be major rework to how whip functions. i would not be opposed to the whole idea of mobility but I don't think they were going for that.

In all honesty, i don't think Nemesis needs either, it's more of a "if he has to" kind of change, also if sprint were to be added, i'd make the trade off that it can first be used at tier 3 and that it would come at the cost of your mutation where the more you use sprint, the more of your mutation bar that you've built up over the course of the trial gets consumed.

  • @Mooks said:

Well.. we got some info, right?

    • Freddy rework isn’t happening any time soon after all
    • Twins changes mostly consist of bug fixes and addon changes but will play the same with trying to shift away from slugging (seemed like something bigger in last AMA)
    • 2-set-cosmetics are still in their backlog but nothing happening on this regard
    • Cosmetic descriptions were ‚standardized‘ but they heard the feedback and (hopefully) not continue that
    • fnaf is a possibility at least from their side
    • They have planned something about pre prestige auto fill bloodwebs
    • Skull Merchant Update is still on the radar and supposedly ‚big‘
    • Blight update will happen in the near future
    • currently no plans for P100 rewards whatsoever
    • MfT is confirmed to get some form of ‚touch up‘

there have also been some lore and personal questions which are important in these things as well. Also plenty of things that were brought to the devs attention with some numbers (upvotes) behind them so they get an idea on how important it is for the community.

it also doesn’t help that certain questions have been directly answered before and are being asked again and again or it is absolutely clear that they cannot answer something in such a setup even if they wanted to (regarding licenses or upcoming features that are still being worked on and will see further changes before PTB/release)

Them being open to fnaf isn't really that surprising considering it's been part of every one of their license surveys so far.

  • Still pretty decent, better than previous versions so that's a current 8½/10

It makes Nemesis "Nemesis" if he has the ability to use weapons.

There is absolutely zero problem in giving Nemesis the weapon he is known for using in the majority of his game if you can balance it.

Besides, we have a Killer who can spit out goo balls of technology and biology, a Killer who quite literally puts skulls on drones in an attempt to look edgy and scary, and three weapons Survivors can use to harm the Killer in some capacity now (Flash Grenade, Flame Turret, Ice Bomb). A rocket launcher belongs if these can belong.

It makes Nemesis "Nemesis" if he has the ability to use weapons.

So does his sprint ability, which he uses way more often than his rocket launcher in the RE3 remake.

There is absolutely zero problem in giving Nemesis the weapon he is known for using in the majority of his game if you can balance it.

First off: He most certainly does not use his Rocket Launcher throughout the majority of the RE3 remake (which is the iteration he's based after), he uses his sprint and tentacle way more, only using the rocket launcher during a single chase segment in a very short part of the game.

Secondly: Just because you can balance something does not mean it should be included, especially not when it doesn't fit thematically.

Also you don't know if there are zero problems in giving Nemesis a Rocket Launcher, in theory it may seem fine, but in practice it may very much not work out at all, saying that ''it can be balanced'' is not enough to excuse or justify it's inclusion when you don't even know if it'll work in practice to begin with. (And no, just because something works in other games does not mean it will work here as well)

None of those are lethal projectile weapons such as guns and explosive launchers that can be used offensively, those kinds of things do not belong here no matter what, in fact just look at Deathslinger's gun, the only reason it even got added was because the devs designed it specifically to fit around the gameplay loop, something that a rifle that uses bullets would never have accomplished the same way.

Grenades and mines also cannot be used offensively by Survivors, which is why you can only drop them and not aim and throw them like in Resident Evil, turrets is also placed to work defensively against Xenomorph to counteract it's power as the Killer has to come to the turret before it works against them.

Not to mention grenades, mines and other utility tools that Survivors can use against the Killer defensively are not even remotely on the same level as adding lethal projectile weapons.

And that's fine, but to please as many people as possible, the value should be near equivalent as reasonably possible.

I'd suggest the reward should be one of the following:

    1. Unique outfit
    2. 21K Shards
    3. 1000 auric cells
    4. 16M BP

Some of those numbers might seem really high, but in terms of value (as a function of time, which is the only currency that really matters), all are pretty close to equal.

And the fact that those numbers seem so high is a reflection of two things: how much of a joke 400K BP is, and how obscenely overpriced cosmetics are.

You're right, those numbers are high, probably a bit too high, i'd cut BP & Auric numbers down by half.

Also i'm completely opposed to unique outfits as reward regardless of how much it would please some people.

  • I'll take any form of currency over cosmetics as rewards.

  • Because i can't stand having to play against him more than twice in a day, also because i can't stand the Wesker fanboys on this forum and their insufferable glorifying of the killer.
