I absolutely Love MK1 despite the negativity some have voiced... but, it’s whatever… ppl will always opinionatedly take issue to anything, even in fighting games; Though, most of the disgruntlement is against WB and not NRS.

WB is micro transaction heavy, unfortunately, but regarding NRS, a DBD fighting game in the vein of MKX or Injustice 2 would be supreme… obviously there are smoother games, however these seem most fitting in comparison.

That MC could get characters into MK could open the door to BHVR’s own game,

and I’m waay too hype n filled w hope about all of this, smh😄 too silly

I personally would like a dbd fighting game in the same vein as Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeyman, but with the same level of gore as in Mortal Kombat.

They did license out DBD to two other studios for those upcoming games they mentioned in the anniversary stream, so they could theoretically do the same for a fighting game company.

Though I think one of them is a company owned by BHVR? Don't quote me on that.

Cote did mention at one point during an interview that he knew a guy who could put Trapper in Mortal Kombat, make of that what you will.

  • Thanks for giving me an excuse to repost my dbd fighting game select menu mockup.

  • All they need to do is rework the Shrine of Secrets, as well as decreasing the price to make it easier for people to get perks from it.

Herbert West from Re-Animator (Stuart Gordon Adaptation)

With one of his perks i imagine would be the ability to craft a reagent through healing enough Survivors, which he could use to bring back dead or sacrificed Survivors as bots, albeit in a very weakened state who will die within a single hook stage.

    lots of backpack-cosmetics.

    Good.

  • Seems Red Barrels is open to an Outlast chapter as seen in the video below, so it's all up to bhvr now to make it happen.

  • Original Survivor most likely, and probably with some new type of Survivor perk mechanic, the same way how Mikaela introduced boons into the game.

This is true. I don't know how long of a process it is but for original characters they have to come up with designs and powers I imagine can be very complex. Chucky must've been one of if not the hardest they have ever done with all the new mechanics.

I think Xeno's crawler animation and tunnel system or Twin's power in of itself is probably more complex than Chucky is.

  • Every forum goblin shrieked in terror upon the sight of a positivity thread on their DBD forum /j

On a serious note, it's nice seeing a positivity thread pop up every now and then.

  • Does 3D DBD related work done in Source Filmmaker or Blender count as well?

  • @Iron_Cutlass said:

Since DBD is focusing on adding many horror icons, there are an infinite number of possibilities for having characters added into DBD, rather it be unique Killers or Survivors, or cosmetic replaces similar to that of Chris Redfield's inclusion into the game.

I think it goes without saying that James A. Janisse should 100% be added to the game (in my opinion).

For those who are not aware, James A. Janisse runs a YouTube channel called "Dead Meat" which produces content known as "The Kill Count" in which they examine the amount of people who died in horror films (both indie and mainstream).

They were also involved in the production of Scream (2022) playing as the "Film Fails" channel and parodying themselves to an extent.

With such vast influence, Im surprised they havent been added sooner.

But what about yall, what do you want added to DBD?

Dunno if you've seen this, but James was actually asked yersterday about the idea of him and Chelsea being added as Survivors in DBD.

I dont care for the new ui as survivor. It gives me too much of the info that I use to gather individually and has removed gameplay.

More characters is always awesome ofc. I do really hope we see Jason one day in DBD.

Tommy is probably the best shout for Friday the 13th, though it's only marred by the fact his film where he was the main centrepiece wasn't actually Jason 😒

Jason was too good at killing people sadly... every character you could consider usually got killed at the end, or at the start of the next film xD

Same reason i don't believe we'll get Friday the 13th anytime soon, it's a copyright mess right now and only a fool would take a chance with it for a crossover.

We dont need childs play 1 (default appearance anyway) And screw the attempted reboot.

The only thing we'll miss out on is the burnt Chucky from the finale of the first movie, but that's frankly it.

Considering what is available from Child's Play 2 and all the way to possibly the TV series, i can live without it, plus the red voodoo engraved knife he has in Child's Play 1 is featured in Curse anyway, so that one is not lost at least.

Phantasm is a pretty deep cut, good call. Would love to see it. DBD needs to either jump for more niche/cult licenses like Phantasm or embrace modern horror (the only licenses originating from post-2004 are Stranger Things and Left 4 Dead)

Agree, we still got a good amount of cult classic villains and franchises to dig through, such as The Djinn from Wishmaster, Pumpkinhead, Blade from Puppet Master, Cropsey from The Burning, Matt Cordell from Maniac Cop or even Herbert West from Stuart Gordon's adaptation of Re-Animator to name a few, hell just Lovecraft related stuff in general hasn't been explored yet and that's public domain even.

There is still just so much left from pre-2000 to delve into before we even get started on modern horror.

That said, if we ever do get anything modern, then Malignant, Terrifier, Sinister, Pearl, Laid to Rest or even House of a 1000 Corpses + The Devil's Rejects are good places to start.

Sure thing, didn’t wanna sound destructive at all! It’s a neat list and nothing is exactly the same repeated.

and I didn’t wanna start a rumour about Hellraiser leaving, just saying I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens sometimes far off. Maybe with license renewal and all it might even be possible to still get new cosmetics/legendarys!

    It's all good.

Also to be fair, if it ever does leave, i have a feeling people will pull a Stranger Things on Park Avenue & Clive Barker to bring back Hellraiser to DBD, since people don't like content that's unavailable, especially when it's full-fledged dlcs as seen with the Stranger Things dlc.

What nice comment to read. Thank you.

Also +1 for mentioning the Phantasm.

Phantasm is my most wanted license, The Tall Man is without a doubt (imo) one of the best & most iconic cult classic horror villains and his inclusion in DBD is more than warranted & deserved at this point.

Also outside the occassional fan games, there hasn't been a single official video game related to that franchise and with DBD being the Smash Bros of Horror, it might as well mark Phantasm's debut into video games.

Oh yeah there are a couple of mistakes but nothing really standing out

i guess Stranger Things missing might be due to the timing and the Hellraiser licensing also was and still is kinda weird - hasn’t a dev confirmed there will not be any more cosmetics even though they were planned? Wouldn’t surprise me if this is the next license we will see removed…

Also nice list - some points are more or less redundant though?

As far as i know, Cote did say no to when asked if we can still get more Hellraiser content last year (i think), so i guess not which is a shame as Pinhead's Gash will remain incomplete, however i really doubt the dlc is getting removed anytime soon and would be surprised (and bummed) if it actually did.

As far as the list goes, i mean you could say some of the points are redudant, i just personally prefer keeping it as vast as possible since i think that's more fun to do.

  • Apart from a couple of mistakes like how the guy who talks in the video says Nemesis infects Survivors with the G-Virus or the fact they didn't even cover Hellraiser, Project W & Stranger Things, it's otherwise a solid interview.

    -

I will say this, Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeyman might be the first game ever (albeit fan made) to bring all of the famous 80's & 90's mainstream horror icons & a few of the big cult classic horror icons together to fight each other between locations from their respective movies, and Mortal Kombat being the first official game ever to try and do what Terrordrome did except legally (granted, to a lesser degree without any movie locations for stages), but DBD is the first and currently only game ever to not only actively seek out these horror properties & icons to it's ever increasing collection, but to also let you play as said horror icons authentically.

It'll be interesting to see how high dbd can climb in popularity and if it can ever reach a high enough point in pop culture to become as instantly recognizable to the same degree most people would recognize Jason by his Hockey mask and Machete alone.

Regardless of anything, i'm riding this game to it's end to see how high it can fly and what it's legacy within horror will end up look like.

    -

Also just for fun, i've been compiling a list for a while now of everything dbd have been the first to accomplish.

    • The first game ever to legally and officially release Hellraiser content for a video game.
    • The first game ever to have a Child's Play/Chucky crossover
    • The game that officially debuted Pinhead's first appearance in a released video game and also being the first game ever to legally let you play as him.
    • The first game ever to have Brad Dourif officially voice Chucky in a video game.
    • The first game ever to have Doug Bradley officially voice Pinhead in a video game.
    • The first game ever to have official Crypt TV content in a video game.
    • The first (and currently only) game ever to have both Silent Hill & Resident Evil content together in the same game.
    • The first game ever to let you play as Amanda Young from SAW.
    • The first multiplayer game ever to let you play as Detective David Tapp.
    • The first game ever that let's you play as Sadako Yamamura.
    • The first game ever to let you play as characters like Laurie Strode, Quentin Smith and the version of Ash from Ash vs Evil Dead.
    • The first game ever to create it's very own original ghostface character that isn't connected to scream nor is just an extra costume only and who's lore revolve around the ghostface moniker.
    • The first multiplayer game ever to legally let you play as Michael Myers in an authentic way.
    • The first game ever to official license Ringu and also create lore for it's character that have been considered a canon part of it's own lore by the license holder
    • The game that officially debuted Nicolas Cage's first appearance in a video game.

If dbd manages to get either Pennywise, Candyman, Jason, Kayako, The Tall Man, then dbd will have managed to do the following.

    • it'll not only be the game to debut Pennywise's first video game adaptation, but they'll also be the first game in almost 3 decades to release anything Stephen King related content in a video game as well as the first ever modern video game to even have any.
    • It'll be the game that debuted Candyman, The Tall Man & Pennywise's first official video game appearances and also being the first game ever to legally let you play as them.
    • It'll be first game ever to have both Sadako & Kayako in the same video game.
    • The first game ever to legally and officially release Candyman, Phantasm & IT content for a video game.
    • It will have accomplished what Mortal Kombat could not, It'll be the first game ever in existence to officially have every iconic old school slasher villain within the same game (If we ignore the fact that Freddy is not the OG version.)
  • Out of all 6, i can only see Andy and Sally being likely.

    I'll give Sidney a 50/50.

The rest i don't believe will ever happen, as one was already attempted but couldn't be done due to likeness rights that could not be obtained, the 2 others are both stuck in copyright hell as they're co-owned by two entities.

Ummm. I think you answered the topic. 🤣

Bagul would be awesome. Love sinister all around

Tallman would be interesting for sure. Would love to see how they incorporate his sentinel spheres

Pumpkinhead would be amazing. Totally 80s in my mind

The Klowne would be funny love to see some cotton Candy stuff

the thing would take some real thought on behaviors part but it would be worth the effort

I would love to see Elvira as a survivor.

I always imagined the sentinels to be a trap based mechanic that once a Survivor has entered it's line of sight, killer instinct would emit from it and you would switch your POV over to it, where you then would gain control of it in a similar way you would with Pinhead's chain.

Successful hit with it puts Survivors in deep wound which they can't mend until they've removed the Sentinel that's hit them.

Of course, i also imagine that you could switch between The Tall Man's Lurkers and his Sentinels through add-ons, similar to Freddy's dream pool and pallets.

  • (I wasn't originally gonna post my entire wishlist, but i'm gonna do it anyway just because i can.)

My top 5 most requested picks would be the following.

    1. The Tall Man from Phantasm
    2. The Djinn from Wishmaster
    3. The Candyman from Candyman
    4. Pumpkinhead from Pumpkinhead
    5. Cassie Hack from Hack/Slash

Which is what you get with a lazy team that doesn't know how to code properly and breaks simple mechanics randomly with each update. Sounds like a skill issue from their part.

Since you're such an expert on things, you tell me what goes into developing a 7 year old game, what the code looks like and what goes on behind the scenes to make stuff happen.

Of course since you've already shown to be incredibly assumptious about things you have no clue about like every other person who act like they're all the suddenly an expert at game development, i can almost guess what your response is gonna be, but let's see if you surprise me.

A lot of things previously deemed impossible were found to be integrated in the game years later. I'm gonna go ahead and say what I truly think: bhvr is lazy. They can do it, it's possible and we know it. They just don't want to bother because they don't see the money in it.

Considering that bhvr has done stuff in the past that didn't exactly make them money either but still did it, i don't believe it has anything to do with laziness, it's just not a high priority.

Also easy to claim laziness when we don't know what exactly it takes to update an already old game that didn't start out with basic features found in other games.

  • how come so many games can do it but dbd can't?

Because games are not the same and all are build differently, with some games being able to support such features as they were build with it in mind from the beginning, while other games such as dbd, it was never thought about such things to begin with and needs to create new stuff that are required to support it.

That's not to say they can't do it, but with a game that was never originally intended to have it, it's not exactly as easy as one would think it is.

  • Never gonna happen, the same way we're never gonna have Blighted Shape or Nightmare, i'll give Pig a 50/50.

On the purpose of chase music, the sole reason of the chase music is to make it so you cannot hear footsteps, survivor breathing, killer breathing and his footsteps as good to prevent easier tracking, I think there was even a statement about that once? Not sure though. But overall I don't think these thematic reasons make for good gameplay, if I get a headache from a killers chase music I'm not trying to loop him, I'm just going to dc or let him hook me easier or just play without sound. If you think it is ok to be annoying, because that gives you an incentive to get rid of the killer why not just make it super annoying headache inducing and what not... The chase music actually serves as gameplay element with a purpose, not just some ambient stuff, if it is too annoying do you really think people would not complain? Just like they did with like 3 Killers already? Ghostface, Skull Merchant and Alien?

Honestly I think Wesker, Legion and the standard DBD theme are basically the best ones, since they are neither repetive, nor headache inducing. They work perfectly fine for thematic reasons and also for overshadowing footsteps, which is the main purpose.

I think thematic reason should never hinder the gameplay, because that is the actual important part of the product which is also why the looks of maps are never as important as the gameplay on it, that is apparently something that developers these days don't really care about, games look really nice but their gameplay is just so boring, repetetive, nothing innovative or new. Back in the earlier days of gaming nobody really cared about graphics, I still like to play games from the early 2000s just because the gameplay is nice and I will never understand how people play on a new map and be like "wow it looks so nice", but then the map plays like garbage so... I won't care about how it looks after 5 matches, but I still have the trash gameplay after it, so what is really important?

On the purpose of chase music, the sole reason of the chase music is to make it so you cannot hear footsteps, survivor breathing, killer breathing and his footsteps as good to prevent easier tracking, I think there was even a statement about that once? Not sure though.

That is it's gameplay purpose yes, but chase music by it's nature is music made specifically for the situation where someone is being chased by someone or something which the music helps increase tension of, it's in the name chase after all.

Again, which is why such an option could solve that issue for people like you who gets headaches from certain tracks, however whether a track is annoying or not is a case by case depending on who you ask, as not everyone gets headaches from them.

The chase music actually serves as gameplay element with a purpose, not just some ambient stuff, if it is too annoying do you really think people would not complain? Just like they did with like 3 Killers already? Ghostface, Skull Merchant and Alien?

Again, while it does serve a gameplay purpose, it's still supposed to sound like something that would intensify the situation which you would run away from, not bop to.

What is or isn't annoying is again subjective depending on who you ask, the same way as to what sounds good or not is subjective, there's always going to be people complaining about the tracks in this game no matter what because their taste differs from each others, the old tracks are not universally hated like you try to make them out to be.

Also every chase track that has been changed in this game have people in the youtube comments of videos for those old chase tracks who still prefer them over the current ones, because not everyone finds them annoying or headache inducing like you do. (Even the OP of this thread wants old Xeno chase track back)

Honestly I think Wesker, Legion and the standard DBD theme are basically the best ones, since they are neither repetive, nor headache inducing. They work perfectly fine for thematic reasons and also for overshadowing footsteps, which is the main purpose.

There's nothing wrong with music being repetitive, that is once again a matter of taste.

Wesker & Legion still completely fails as chase music, because they don't sound like chase music. After all it's called chase music when you're getting chased by the killer, as in you're supposed to run away from them music.

Just because something sounds good does not make it fitting as chase music, Wesker is just boss music and Legion is music you jam out to, both of which does not fit the situations they're intended to play during, you're not fighting in a boss battle and you're not there to jam out to it, you running for your life.

I think thematic reason should never hinder the gameplay, because that is the actual important part of the product

With most games yes, however DBD is not like most games and here it is kind of an necessity, especially when it comes to killers like Nurse and other killers who can pinpoint you by simply listening to your footsteps.

which is also why the looks of maps are never as important as the gameplay on it, that is apparently something that developers these days don't really care about, games look really nice but their gameplay is just so boring, repetetive, nothing innovative or new.

I say both can be equally important, also the latest map introduced a new gameplay mechanic not featured in any other map, something that we'll see more of in future maps going forward due to the positive reception it received.

Back in the earlier days of gaming nobody really cared about graphics

Back in the earlier days of gaming, the bar for what good graphics looked like was much lower as the technology didn't exist back then, so it was prioritized less over gameplay.

I still like to play games from the early 2000s just because the gameplay is nice and I will never understand how people play on a new map and be like "wow it looks so nice", but then the map plays like garbage so... I won't care about how it looks after 5 matches, but I still have the trash gameplay after it

I mean, you do you, but everyone thinks differently and enjoys different things than each other, including some who enjoys what you consider trash gameplay as some are perfectly satisfied with the current gameplay loop they have.

That does not make them wrong for liking it so, just different from you.

    so what is really important?

It boils down to who you ask as you'll find people who prioritizes gameplay over graphics and vice versa when they're playing games. Personally unless it's an aesthetic choice for the game, i say once again both can matter equally.

It's clear we don't agree with each other in any regards and since i don't feel like having a long drawn out discussion on the matter, i'm just gonna end it here before it gets to that point.

A few yes, since I find them very well made, but most not... There is a difference in generally liking to listen to them and finding them so annoying that would rather go next though or that it gives you a headache...

The TL;DR version: Yes, i think Hag, Doctor and SM all have perfectly fine chase music.

The Long version: Here's the thing though.

The job of a chase track is to intensify the life & death / run for your life situation Survivors are in, that is the sole purpose of a chase track, whether it's 3 seconds, 13 seconds or 33 seconds is less important, because unlike menu music where you sit in the lobby and aren't doing anything that would take attention away from it, chase music is made with the sole goal in mind to intensify the chase itself where you're mostly paying attention as to how to escape the chase itself rather than focusing on the music itself or be listened to on it's own and isolated from everything else.

    • A good chase track is something that makes you want to run away from it during a chase as it intensifies the situation itself, an even better chase track also sound like something that would fit the character it's for as well, be it something that fits their personality, backstory, traits or power. (Hillbilly's chase track is a perfect example of both aspects done right.)
    • A bad chase track however is something that may sound fitting to the character but doesn't makes you want to run away from it or doesn't neither sound fitting to the character nor makes you want to run away from it.

That is why i do think that Doctor, Hag & SM have good chase music because they intensify the situation and makes you want to run away from them, with Doctor having the better track out of the 3 because his music encapsulates the madness part about his character perfectly.

An example of bad chase tracks would be Wesker & Legion, while they sound good on their own and fit their characters, they suffer from the aforementioned thing.

    • Wesker's chase music sounds like boss music, you know something that you're supposed to fight rather than running away from.
    • Legion's chase music just sounds like something you would jam out to rather than run away from.

I also believe a 3 second loop is perfectly fine for a chase track since the music is supposed to keep on repeat until the chase ends which it usually does very quickly, anything too long and you have a Deathslinger chase music situation where it cuts out in the middle of a part only to pick up at another part of the chase track.

As for tracks being annoying to listen to, the only chase track that have ever been hard to listen to for me was the PTB version of the chase tracks for Doctor & Demogorgon, every other chase track has been perfectly fine imo, even Ghostface's, Singularity's & Xenomorph's ptb chase tracks and if i had the oppotunity, i would gladly bring them back to hear them again in-game.

That is my opinion on the matter of dbd's music and have been for the longest time, feel free to agree to disagree if you wish.

  • We have a higher chance of getting OG Jason in the game than we ever have of getting OG Freddy.

Jason or Pennywise, after them Candyman and we are complete

Even with all of those, the lineup still feels incomplete without OG Freddy, who we sadly might never get.

Everybody would be Kung Fu fighting. Those DBD cats, as fast as lightning. In fact, it would be a little bit frightening.

But they would fight with skill check timing.

There'll be funky Wesker mains from funky Raccoon town.

Fair I guess, but do you really think for example Doctor, Skull Merchant, Hag have such great themes? They all have like a 3 second loop... It's really not a good theme in that sense.

Before i answer your question, answer this first.

Do you listen to chase music in-game the same way you would listen to chase music on youtube?

  • I expect the biggest irl brawl between Killer mains and Survivor mains as they take the us vs them to a physical level.

Would be great ^^ Then I don't have to listen to half of the garbage chase musics anymore and can just have the basic one :) I would prefer the same thing for all cosmetics, sometimes it is really hard to tell survivors apart...

Agree to disagree on both your points.

  • I'd say it's too big to exist on indoor maps and tight/narrow main buildings on outdoor maps, so you'd need to shrink it in to fit, and even then you need to find a way to make it follow the ground rules all killers must abide by, which is being able to attack, vault, break pallets, carry and hook Survivors.

Also water will obviously be flooding the maps, how high would the water levels raise to on the maps and how would that affect Survivor gameplay and what new mechanics for them would be needed?

Do they walk underwater and play like normally with a water filter over the screen or do they swim around the map above the water while having to stay out of the water, which begs the question as to how would Bruce the shark get them so they can't stall the match?

All these questions and more are what bhvr needs to answer and make work in-game before JAWS can be added and personally, i don't think Bruce could fit in current dbd, would work better in an alternative game mode that can support these features better on a fundamental level.

  • It's possible, but probably not until next year.

The one on the PTB was so horrible and majorly hated that everyone complained about it, there is no need for a poll since back then nobody defended it, people got headaches from it and just didn't wanna hear that anymore...

I was actually one of the few who wanted it to stay back then along with Singularity ptb chase track, i'm still holding out hope for one day that we can get a customization setting that allows people to change Killer's chase music between current, ptb and default to listen to client-sided during a match.

  • Sure they can, i know James Wan wants M3GAN in DBD as mentioned in an interview from a clip on youtube and it's height is taller than Chucky to function in first person, but imma be real and say there are better and more interesting picks for smaller killers than Megan or Annabelle.

  • SCP realistically cannot be added to the game because of the type of copyright it falls under.

  • Here's some actual spicy hot takes.

    • BHVR should drop support for older consoles as soon as enough people have transitioned over to next gen consoles, as it feels like older gen consoles are holding the game back on a technical level.
    • The older dbd was, the worse it was in all aspect and the sooner we get rid of all remaining aspects of old dbd, the better it'll be for the game, anyone wanting old dbd back only want so because they're most likely blinded by nostalga and is looking at it through rose-tinted glasses.
    • Legion and Wesker have the worst (as in least fitting) chase tracks in the game.
    • Pre-reworked maps looked like dogshit in every way, from the bright textures to the color tint.
    • Dbd deserves the labor of love steam award.
    • Nurse's tome does not contradict her base lore, it merely expanded it as the base lore was already incredibly short and vague to begin with, the only thing the tome contradicts is people's headcanon for the base lore.
    • Trickster is one of DBD's best original designed killers lorewise, aesthetic-wise and thematically.
    • Tools of Torment is a better chapter than Binding of Kin is.
    • Curve Billy with engraving add-ons is one of the least fun killers to face in the game.
  • Half or more of these aren't really niche or cult classics, especially not The Shining, Silence of the Lambs and The Thing.

Hope we see the multiple versions of chucky for cosmetics; scars, burned, melted, and even headless would be cool.

We're gonna have a pretty big catalogue of movies to choose from i believe, since it's Universal that BHVR went to for the Chucky license, as they own the copyright for the majority of Chucky movie, which are the following ones.

    • Child's Play 2
    • Child's Play 3
    • Bride of Chucky
    • Curse of Chucky
    • Cult of Chucky

The copyright text on the DBD Chucky trailer also mentions Seed of Chucky as well despite Rogue and Relativity Media having distribution rights on that one, but i guess that doesn't matter and that it's valid for use as well.

I'm not sure who owns the TV series, could be universal as well since they were part of the show's production, but that's just me guessing.

Only Child's Play 1 and the Child's Play Reboot are not available for certain as they're copyright owned by MGM.

Robert England's Freddy is so much more iconic than whoever it was that played him in that remake. Part of his character is the quips he makes which the remake doesn't give at all. I feel like BHVR should try their best to bring classic Freddy to the game with Robert England's voice and leave anything referencing that dumpster fire remake by the wayside.

BHVR did originally wanted to go for OG Freddy, Unfortunately however remake freddy is the result of a ''take it or leave it'' type of deal with New Line as that was the only version they would give to BHVR as OG Freddy and his movies is pretty much off limits and New Line is being strict as all hell as to what bhvr can and cannot do with the version we currently have.

I'd give OG adult/zombie Jason a higher chance of making it into the game than OG Freddy ever will.

I was kidding Smoe love that Robot just forgot about them because they don’t get cosmetics. Singu in a funny little 50s robot costume for Halloween would have been very fun.

    I see.
