Yet some perks have never been in the shrine, also with the current rotation speed it can take up to 2 years for a perk to get there.

That still doesn't make it p2w, that just means that the Shrine of Secret is outdated and needs a rework to be up to date, same way the daily ritual system needs one.

I can give You that even tho i disagee, but it does not matter since:

p2w means locking game content behind paywall. Perks are game content. Perks are locked behind paywall. Game content is locked behind paywall.

You're right that is locked behind a paywall, however as long as there is a means to unlock it outside of buying it (aka Shrine of Secret), it would not constitute as true p2w.

Nope. She doesn’t even have the highest win streak anymore.

Someone getting a higher win streak with another killer doesn't prove anything.

She ignores what every other killer is forced to comply with, that alone is what makes her the strongest killer in the game, period.

Nurse isn’t the strongest killer is the game anymore. That ship sailed when she got a triple nerf a long time ago.

As long as she can blink through objects and damage Survivors, she will always be the strongest killer no matter what, especially in the right hands.

I want to touch on one one thing that people bring up when this subject is brought up and it's maps.

I don't think a map has to be at night to be considered "horror". Good horror can utilize the daylight. Humans don't have great eyesight in low light so "what lurks in the dark and once the morning comes we are safe" can be a great trope but what a better way to convey horror is to show that even in the light we are not safe.

Weather, BHVR pulls this off in their day maps is another discussion.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1's most memorable scenes takes place during daytime, especially the finally.

IMO, i think the coldwind maps really captures that same feeling found in TCM, especially the Thompson House map, something i never got from the old version of the realm itself.

  • In terms of horror: it's still a horror game, it has simply just expanded into different types in the horror genre, which i think is a good thing.

In terms of scary: dbd has never been scary and that won't change no matter how many conventional horror characters you add.

  • Dead by daylight is a p2w game

Counter Points: Nurse is the strongest killer in the game who is also free and Shrine of Secret offers perks for free that are locked behind paywall normally.

… how are swf going to benefit from it? They already know each other’s loadout LMAO. It’s a solo Q QOL improvement to know each other’s loadout. This feature will change nothing about swf.

Most solo q players will not care about it because team play comes as 2nd or no priority to them, the people that focuses on team play are for the most part are swf and sweaty tryhards.

and again, since people already dodges others because of the other reasons i mentioned before, people are also going to start dodging others over the perks they run just as much, which in return is just gonna cause more backfill lobbies to occur and thus worse games for more people, to pretend otherwise is naive.

Anyone running anything that isn't considered meta are gonna have a harder time finding any games.

The people in this thread and on social media that we are sharing the same point of view. Don’t worry, next time I will add “not Dead by Daylight forum user Smoe tho” at the end.

Except i ain't the only person who don't want it, mainly because it exactly is going to lead to more dodging or dcing depending on where you put the information, you already have people who dodge others based on their prestige, uses anon mode or if they get a map or killer they don't like, not to mention you already have people who have vocally expressed that they're going to dodge others who runs any meme builds or any perks that aren't meta.

Also the only people who's going to benefit from it is SWF, as most solo players will most likely not bother synchronizing their perks with others or just utilizing the feature in general.

    Hey Mandy,

I understand what you mean with the dodging problem, but don’t you think that maybe such selfish perks should be looked into to begin with? These players don’t plan on going team oriented, so why punish people that want to play as a team just because you want to reward selfish people with no team mentality? The amount of players that would get a more team oriented playstyle and would synchronise their perks with each other outweights those who just want to play with themselves in a corner or from locker to locker. And about this issue aw well… There are already perks that counter each other withing the same team (Inner Strength Vs Boon totem perks), and in the future there will probably be more of these and will push back ideas for new perks or reworked perks that could be amazing and fun. Can the dev team really not see the enormous problem that limiting this kind of information is causing to the game and playerbase (solo Q one in this case mainly)?

Please… Really reconsider a lot of things and try to get a new approach in regards of solo Q mainly and how to push it the closest to Swf level with in-game tools such as the loadout being shown to team mates. I am very concerned and worried for the direction and effect this game is getting (especially after the last unfortunate AMA)… Feels like the priorities are twisted in order, at least we as players feel that way.

I hope I was respectful with this comment, and my point was well understood, and if it was not I really apologise beforehand.

at least we as players feel that way.

    Who's we?

  • More: Nemesis, Pyramid Head, Pinhead, Ghost Face & Naughty Bear

Less: Blight, Hillbilly, Wesker & Huntress

  • That they should have done it some years ago, in fact they should continue doing it with future dlcs.

  • Some way to view your currently active tome challenge in a match, so that you don't have to memorize it.

I can't tell just how many times in the past that i've forgotten what challenges i have had active and that i end up either completing it unintentionally or not even attempting to complete it because i couldn't remember what it was.

Would also be nice to have it for daily rituals as well.

  • For as accurate as it may be to his character, i think turning Nemesis into another run fast killer would be kinda boring.

Also what would Nemesis even need a tentacle ability for if he can just use relentless pursuit to get a guaranteed hit on Survivors with seemingly no drawback anyway?

Or Imagine a mode where the survivors can fight back haha. Or a mode where a group of killers play against a group of survivors in a mode of snowball fight or stuff? But not only in event than more all time. At least in winter.

But I am not sure if they should go all away from the base. I just have no idea what they could do. Maybe some kind of legendary missions for the killers and survivors where they have to play against the entity itself before it got them?

I don't think DBD would fit best for an entity boss fight, that would have to be it's own entire game as i have a feeling doing it in this game would just come off as anti-climatic.

Although not like any of them could actually harm The Entity physically.

Maybe a Soul-type DBD game or some DBD fighting game with The Entity as the final boss that cannot be played as because it's too overpowered to be played as. (kinda like Master Hand and Crazy Hand boss fight in Smash Bros)

  • Jason got more going for him than Freddy does, Jason got a new game coming out and a new series called Crystal Lake.

There was talk of a nightmare movie in the works with Warner Bros basically wanting Englund back, but that seems to be stuck in development hell.

Despite being a licensing tar pit right now, Jason still have a better chance of getting in than OG Freddy does, only way OG Freddy would happen is if Warner Bros sold off the rights to a more willing company.

  • There's room for all of the suggested modes, but personally i would rather have game modes that differs more than just slightly from the current mode we have, as i believe the game will benefit the most from those types of mode, since it would offer different ways for people to enjoy the game when they're bored with the current mode.

Maybe one day dbd can get a Survivor racing game mode like the one Identity V has.

  • @Azulra said:

I honestly think that this would be one of the better modes for BHVR to add into DBD since this mode could actually have the chance to make the game scary again(especially if the killer is a stealth killer like Myers and Ghostface).

Also, off topic, can we all agree that the "Giant" mode is the lesser idea out of all the proposed modes? It's literally just normal DBD, but with giant killer models and tiny survivor models.

Giant mode sounds more fun than disgustingly scary, although worst one was definitely VIP.

I hope they make an update to bring back the old Dbd atmosphere. From what I‘ve seen it looked far better back then.

I hope they don't, it looked god awful.

  • @kaoraku said:

I think it would be horrible for the game. Knowing how many edgelord, and toxic people plays this game they would constantly leave lobbies when the perks aren't good enough for them. It would force people to play certain perks, what the other's think they have to play. And if not, they leave. Which would be also a bad thing, since matchmaking at that point just fill up lobbies the fastes possible way.

Also when you try to play random perks (as a challange, or as content for your audience) they would reeeee etc. I think it would create more drama and problem then how usefull would be.

Anything that let's people see informations such as mmr rating, which killer they're playing against, teammate's perks or on-demand statistics for anything is just gonna lead to problematic situations one way or another.

They're all going to have more cons than pros attached to their inclusions.

They've said in the past it's too late to add a replay system in, it would had to been in the original coding apparently. One of the reasons why I'd love them to recode the game.

Xeno's tunnels look like they're based on Demo's portals. Chuck's pov and model likely came from Victor. I'd have to think about the various parts of Singularity to see where they came from, if not actually new. Don't play him anymore too poopy with a controller. I think they said it takes a year's time to do a killer.

I don't think most people would have the patience required for the time it takes to do an entire game recoding, especially at the point the game is at right now.

  • It's going to lead to people dodging other people who got perks they don't like equipped or doesn't have the featured itself enabled.

  • @OrangeBear said:

I really don't think they need an overhaul, the prices have always been the same. It's clearly been working, because they said they are increasing production of cosmetics at the start of the year. They wouldn't do that if they weren't selling. There is a demand for more skins.

I would of course like them to be cheaper but i am still happy to buy cosmetics at the price they are currently. Yes the value doesn't make sense when you compare it with chapter DLCs but you can compare the prices of everything in the world and a lot of things don't add up.

There's games that are super cheap and have a loads of content and then there's games that have single digit hour amount of content and they are full price. The runtime of movies is much shorter than the average length of a video game but tickets are still similarly priced. Ordering pizza is extremely expensive compared to how much it costs to actually make or just buying a frozen one.

Truth is things will be priced at whatever the seller thinks it's worth and/or whatever they think is most profitable but still low enough to still be bought and make a profit. People can charge whatever they want for anything. There isn't exactly any rules to the price of things. Only norms, trends, expectations, logic and apparently Business Intelligence which i've heard is relevant to online gaming but i don't really know much about.

Not saying i think the prices are justified, because i think they are not. I just think they work. People still buy them, BHVR continues to be happy to make more of them and have been since the store started like 5 or 6 years ago

Not to defend the pricing, but i think it's better having expensive cosmetics over expensive dlcs overall, i feel like if bhvr were to lower the prices on cosmetics, they would in return increase the pricing on other things to compensate for the loss in revenue, such as increasing the prices on dlcs going forward.

Recoding the game isn't a simple task that can be churned out. It's going to take years for them to recode everything. But importantly, I'm pretty sure the dev team is already slowly working on recoding aspects of their code.

We've seen some innovation stuff with some recent killers. Xeno's underground map, Chucky's 3rd person camera, Singularity's bipod cameras. I doubt any of this stuff was possible for them years ago.

They did say that the tunnel system Xeno has wasn't possible at the time Demogorgon came out, so you're not far off.

  • @Pulsar said:

    They all sound good.

Just wondering how long it will take to see them. If basic stuff takes years, how long will this take

Whatever they have planned for new game modes, they've already been working on it in advance since it's not the first time they've talked about new game modes, Cote himself have even hinted since June that they're working on new game modes and i can probably image that they've been working on it for longer than that since they've asked in a previous survey about what kind of game modes people would like to see.

I think it's safe to bet that we can probably expect something in either 2024 or 2025.

  • Killers would just get tortured into submission by The Entity until they kill the Survivors and anything that is no longer of any use to The Entity is just gets discarded into the void.

Would it hurt The Entity? No not really, there's many more trials taking place at once. The loss of a thousand trials pale in comparison to the potential millions more that's also taking place.

  • The modes that changes the gameplay dynamic entirely sounds the most fun

Less of a fan of modes like Disgustingly Scary as it doesn't add anything new enough to the current way the game is played.

  • Deciever, Luck of the Draw, Zombie Tag, 5v5, Tag and Giant game mode proposals sounds fun.

Disgustingly Scary, 2v8 Party, Hide & Seek, Swapped Perspective & Bumrush sounds okay but not as interesting as some of them don't really adds anything that i would consider to be too different to the current formula.

VIP just sounds like a bad idea really.

Kinda weird given that curveable loops added more depth of "is the billy gonna go wide or hug it tight". It removed the whole just hold w and drop pallet when you know you can't get another rotation.

In my experience, Billy is literally just spam rev chainsaw around every loop, survivor either predrops or billy downs them with a curve, rinse and repeat.

I never saw it as adding more depth, if anything i'd call it boring and one dimensional, same reason why i hate engraving billies.

I feel like that Otz video was mostly just a build up of stress that he finally let loose. Deciding to abandon a bunch of video types over a AMA is silly and even if the AMA did go well, he probably would have let some of them go anyway which I think is for the best.

He plays DBD a lot and needs a bit of a break. Having less content types will let him focus on other games and on the content types he enjoys which will help his mindset IMO.

Now lets get to some of his AMA complaints and my opinions thereafter.

    No Custom Lobby Changes:

I'm 50/50 with. I get why he wants it but I also get why it's not a major priority. DBD will never be a hardcore comp game no matter what changes they make and many people consider comp DBD a joke. At best they could add seed selectors to make things fair but even then, it's still the same stuff.

    No More General Perks:

I actually disagree with Otz a bit on this one. The general pool isn't great but now more then ever it's not that much of a grind to get extra perks from other free characters. 1.2mil or so to get P1 and then you have whatever perk you wanted unlocked for everyone. This gives an incentive to grind for newer players and it also gives them an idea what the game is about.

If newer players don't stay it's not because of perks but because of the general gameplay loop. New players also won't be able to make proper use of stronger perks either and it runs the risk of them getting their MMR too high if they do.

I get wanting to have more stuff for newer players which I'm fine with; the character price reduction was great for this but I don't think extra perks is the way IMO.

    Lobby Screen Updates:

I agree with Otz here. I don't know what kinda weird ass code they have but it shouldn't take years to make a simple change like that; coming from someone who knows nothing about code. If the Lobbies are that hardcoded then I'd rather see an entire lobby rework to make things nicer; be able to switch themes, etc.

    SWF/Solo Gap:

As someone who plays in a 2-man and solo I actually agree with the devs a bit. I would have said info was the biggest problem but the Hud update is an absolute godsend. Even without direct communication you can get an idea of what's happening and adapt on the spot. It's not as good as coms but it's enough to play IMO

To me general skill is the bigger issue. As killer I'd rather have the average 4-man SWF then I would a group of 4 good solos. As solo it's all about carrying equal weight and picking up slack for those who aren't. Sometimes you can and other times you can't. Sometimes you're the bad solo teammate and sometimes you're not.

    Killing Self On Hook Solution:

I'm happy the devs were blunt about this because I agree there is nothing they can currently do. If people want to be done with that match then they will be done. Even if you Band-Aid fix hooks they can go AFK or start to troll. Whatever the case the match is still ruined all the same and people will complain more about the "solution" because it didn't work.

I don't think this issue is fixable with how the game currently works and good on them for being blunt about it. If you really hate it that much then bring reassurance to troll a little.

    Final Thoughts:

I don't think I missed anything but overall I feel Otz needs a break. It feels like he's burnout and why wouldn't he be? He puts a lot of time and effort into the game and his videos. I need a break between tomes to feel refreshed; if I played DBD all the time I doubt I'd last a year and would quit, though I could say the same for any game.

I think it's important to remember that the game was never built to support such features in the first place, which i think plays an important role into why some of the things talked about in the AMA would take longer to implement than one would expect.

    At least that's my guess.

just because a person calls themselves a singularity main, it doesn't mean they understand this killer.

this person says blatantly wrong things about a killer they don't really understand.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3610085#Comment_3610085

    that'll be a horrible change.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3610081#Comment_3610081

whatever money they'll spend on making him "easier" will end up ruining him for everyone. it's literally more profitable for them to leave him be as a niche killer rather than waste resources in vain trying to make people play killer that requires more awareness than they have.

I don't see how making the cameras feel better to use for more people is a bad thing.

  • @BigChapAlien21 said:

I feel like regular, large balance updates should be part of BHVR's dev cycle. Some of the things requested in the AMA were not small issues. I don't see why it would take years to implement features already installed in DBD mobile, or a bar to show how close a Survivor is to fully healing another Survivor. Adding a grabbing symbol for survivors moving towards a hooked Survivor within a certain proximity to show someone is unhooking. Perk adjustments, etc.

BHVR claims this would take forever to implement. Are we sure it doesn't take forever because of the efforts being put towards skins and new chapters?

I think losing Otz is a huge loss and it sucks that he feels ignored by the devs and attacked by parts of the community.

You seem to forget that mobile doesn't need to put ressources into making new chapters like core does, they only need to port them, which means they have more time and ressources to focus on other things that bhvr doesn't have as much as for core.

Also bhvr have more than one team that works on dbd, cosmetics have their own team that only works on that, same thing with creation of new chapters or the creation of new features, one does not take away from the other.

  • I just want camera POV to reset after switching away instead of remaining in the same position as you left them.

  • They've done a pretty good job so far with the event. (no sarcasm)

It's definitely a step up from last year's Bone Chill event.

Overheat was a necessary nerf because maps used to be filled with loops that were curve-able.

The actual reason why overheat was partially un-nerfed was because the anti-Blight map updates removed most of the curve-able loops.

Does everyone remember that most loops used to literally be smooth vertical objects with perfect 90 degree angles?

Hot Take, but i never found Billy fun to go against in anyway and the curve-able loops was one of those reasons.

I'm genuinely happy he got reworked, as it means i only get to face Billy once in a blue moon.

  • Even more reason why it's too early to have any realistic expectations for what the changes are gonna be.

    Money rules.

This counts for Otzdarva as well.

The overall frustration around Base-Players is very (!) unverstandable. I mean, little things take ages to arrive, while DBDMobile is showing heavily how you could move on.

Little things like a return of OG Freddy with Adjustments is taking FOREVER and gets delayed till eternity, while small things like the HUD gets hyped... which isnt that big of a deal. Its nice, it should have been around sooner, but everything just TAKES FAR TOO LONG for the devs to do.

It feels (!!!!) like all that matters is pumping out new chapters for money, copy&paste. It feels like the biggest part is creating killers and cosmetics, while gameplay gets abandoned besides small things.

They need 6 months (!) to adjust a perk, like WHAT?

It's too early to have expectations on what the freddy change is gonna be as we don't even know what their plans are for him yet.

  • The fact that they're changing Onryo back.

Hopefully they don't change any of the other killers back as well to their previous kits.

    Sorry for late reply.

It could be, but I kinda doubt it. There are a ton of videos on YT talking about how they liked the old aesthetic better, and they get tons of likes and comments. I don't think it's always something people who miss old DBD go searching for either.

DBD is still horror IMO, but less horror, and I don't like the path its going down and I don't think they are meeting the horror genre with some killers, as mentioned before. If they don't play their cards right

    Agree to disagree on that.

Okay but again, if Trickster is horror I don't see why Joker isn't. He has a higher kill count, more evil ideas, and I'm sure some of these were meant to be scary, but again, we should be able to understand genre aside from creators coming out and stating their intentions with their story. It's a principal called show don't tell. If you didn't tell me DBD was a horror game, I'd have no idea Trickster, Skull Merchant, and in some ways Knight and Artist are horror characters. So to me, they are simply failed attempts at horror even with their backstories.

The time of day would matter more to the killer and their memories, survivors would be more scared in the dark. Besides, Billy lived in Coldwind, he saw it dark. I don't like the verity. Coldwind, Ormond, Toba Landing, Garden of Joy, Eyre, SM's MacMillan I think none of these feel like horror. Like yeah, "scary the inside of main is upside-down" and "cow tree has big dead animals" but throwing in a few horror elements doesn't make the whole map scary.

I can't argue too much about the graphics. As charming as they were in many ways they were ugly and I can understand why they changed, but it's not just the graphics, it's the whole map design. I still prefer a muddy dark Coldwind than a sunny peaceful one.

I think that's an unpopular opinion, that it's no more peaceful but to each their own.

Slinger would be like an urban legend in RDR2 that you do to do a ritual to summon. He would be very out of place. I guess you have a point with Legion tho. Legion to me feels like a 1999 Ghostface so I can forgive them, I still can't forgive how the new killers have a pattern of drifting away from horror.

This conversation proves horror is subjective, but there is still something to be said about the version of horror DBD built it's legacy on, and how many fans don't like this new direction it's going.

I totally disagree that the new aesthetic is horror.

Unsocialized people can be quite child-like even if she is sadistic and great with survival.

I'm gonna be honest I don't think it should be vast and diverse. If I wanted to play Fortnite I would.

It could be, but I kinda doubt it. There are a ton of videos on YT talking about how they liked the old aesthetic better, and they get tons of likes and comments. I don't think it's always something people who miss old DBD go searching for either.

Again, the people who like the new aesthetic have no reason to go search for any videos talking about how much they love the new aesthetic, it's already the current aesthetic. If a new aesthetic were to come, you can bet there would be people doing the same thing as the people who loves the old aesthetic do.

DBD is still horror IMO, but less horror, and I don't like the path its going down and I don't think they are meeting the horror genre with some killers, as mentioned before. If they don't play their cards right

Yes they are, but i suspect purists like yourself don't see that because to you, the old aesthetic is still the only thing that matters, even though it is no longer relevant in any way, shape or form and has not been for some time now, even less once they finally rework swamp and snuff out the last remnants of old dbd.

Except the context of a character matters, and i can tell that those 4 you just mentioned is horror just by looking at them while joker is not.

None of the maps are scary, it's just your personal preference having maps take place during night time.

Billy has been outside of coldwind during daytime in his lore, so it being day or night for billy is irrelevant.

So you're basically saying that because they're daytime maps, then they're not horror? I guess that means every horror movie that takes place during the day isn't a horror movie then, such as texas chainsaw massacre.

I can't argue too much about the graphics. As charming as they were in many ways they were ugly and I can understand why they changed, but it's not just the graphics, it's the whole map design. I still prefer a muddy dark Coldwind than a sunny peaceful one.

Charming is not the word i'd call them and muddy dark coldwind will always the worst map to look at, thank god they changed the whole map design, can't wait for them to get rid of swamp so i never have to look at that disgusting abomination from old dbd's time.

Slinger is still normal looking enough apart from the eyes and Legion is just a guy in a mask, nothing scary about them, however they're still horror characters the same way Knight, SM, Trickster & Artist is, just because they're unconventional horror does not mean they're not horror.

Except they aren't drifting away from horror.

This conversation proves horror is subjective, but there is still something to be said about the version of horror DBD built it's legacy on, and how many fans don't like this new direction it's going.

Wrong, scary is subjective, horror is not.

People are scared of different things, horror simply encompasses everything in the horror genre that people is scared of, to say something isn't horror because you don't think it is means that you're disregarding everything within the horror genre that doesn't fit your view on horror and the people who find different things scared from you.

It's honestly no different from other purists that thinks anything horror related that has any levity in it isn't horror.

I totally disagree that the new aesthetic is horror.

Good for you, that still doesn't change the objective fact that an aesthetic like the one we currently have in the game is recognized as horror by other people.

I'm gonna be honest I don't think it should be vast and diverse. If I wanted to play Fortnite I would.

Well too bad, because that's just the way the game is now and it's never going back to how you remember it as.

Also saying dbd is less horror for adding more horror that is from different types of officially recognized horror in the horror genre makes no sense whatsoever.

    -

It doesn't matter how much you try to push the narrative that those types of horror isn't horror, when there are medias that uses such horror types and is officially classified and labeled as horror.

  • He's more fun to play as than against to me, which is why i've been maining him in recent time, hitting Survivors with the tail feels satisfying, especially when it's a corner hit.

Also Wall Climbing would make Xeno's power really map dependant and facehugger would not have a proper way to be implemented, unless of course you just want a recycling of pig's reverse beartrap mechanic.

My feeling is that xenomorph doesn't that have many iconic stuff in his kit. He doesn't have acid blood if whenever he gets stunned, the pallet gets burned by xeno's acid blood and within time, it gets destroyed. I know he has acid blood as iridescent addon that injure the survivor but it's.. I don't know. Ehh.. and if I remember correctly from his movies, he doesn't use his tail all that much?

Xenomorph could had so much more but I guess this is what they give us. Oh well at least he looks like Xenomorph, I guess?

I'd rather have acid blood pallet breaking be part of the iri addon than basekit.

Also the queen uses her tail in Aliens, not to mention that if the AVP game (which many say actually feels like you playing as a Xenomorph) can have Xeno use it's tail as part of it's attacks, then there's no reason why dbd can't as well.

This is kinda crazy because I find that most people think Wesker or Legion have some of the best chase music. I think it's fitting for the character but not the game though.

That's exactly the thing, it fits the characters but not the game.

Wesker's is a boss track, you know, something you need to fight and not run from.

Legion's is just music to jam out to, not run from.

Just because something sounds good, does not mean it automatically also fits as chase music, which should be something that intensifies the life & death situation of Survivors running for their lives.

  • Menu: Silent HIll Lobby Menu

Chase: Anything that isn't Wesker or Legion's chase music, as every other chase track is more fitting than those two combined.

And BHVR said Stranger Things is not coming back because Netflix was refusing them. Even Cote himself said ST is not coming back, just a month ago before we got ST again.

So i would not trust to devs that much, things can change outside of our knowledge.

The difference is that Netflix is active with Stranger Things, whereas New Line (which pretty much is Warner Bros solely at this point since New Line doesn't really exist anymore outside of name) has pretty much given up on ANOES.

It's been 6 years since Freddy was added to the game and nothing since then nothing has happened, sorry but at this point, i have no hope for any new ANOES content or any custom music being, not even an ugly sweater for Quentin.

Only hope we have is if Warner Bros sells off the IP, since they're doing pretty poorly financially in recent time, they've been selling off some of their IPs, at least from what i've been told.

I didn't say they would like it "most" I said it was an important aspect of DBD becoming popular in the first place. Aesthetic is important for media, but I think most people would say that gameplay is more important. Anyways, the most common opinion I've seen about the aesthetics in my experience is most players miss the old look.

Halloween really let DBD take off, and Idk if they would have gotten the license if they didn't play their cards with horror.

I think there has to be more than intent involved, otherwise, no one would fail at art and storytelling.

Trickster IMO is a failed attempt at horror. He doesn't belong in the category.

So if the DC universe stayed the same, but the writers came out and said their intention was to be scary, or horror, by your logic Joker would be a horror villain. Since we can't read minds and good writers don't tell you how to interpret their characters, they let you figure them out for yourself by their writing skills, I'm gonna be honest and say Trickster is just as horror as Joker IMO.

In my experience, calling it Smash Bros was a roast but okay, I can believe some people say it as a positive thing.

But then again, where does it end? Don't gatekeep what's scary. I think the ghost house music in old school Mario is terrifying, and some of those ghosts were unreasonably creepy. Should Mario be a DBD survivor? Is having standards gatekeeping? I do like some niche horror movies, doesn't mean I think they should be involved with DBD.

I'm not arguing all old fans liked DBD the way it was, but the ones who disagree with you and are speaking out aren't gatekeeping.

It's reasonable that you don't wanna see old DBD come back, but then I could turn around and say "You're gatekeeping what the best version of DBD is and not supporting people who want the option!" sharing opinions on what is and isn't horror isn't gatekeeping any more than that is.

You edited it. It says on the comment when you edit things. I saw what you put before you edited it.

I think it would make sense, not for all of them to look the exact same, but to have a dark and hopeless feeling. This is a game called "Dead BY Daylight" and the entity feeds off your suffering. Mostly I don't like the looks of corn maps, Eyre, or Ormond. Ormond looked so dark and cool. The graphics look better, sure, but the actual aesthetic is kinda gross.

They could update the graphics, but to make maps so peaceful and bright IMO is too far.

Fair enough. I would still say if Trickster is horror, Joker may as well be.

In the game from years ago. Dredge is alright tho. I look at Knight, SM, Trickster, and I don't think "horror genre!" I think "Fantasy RPG? Fallout? Dating sim?"

DBD was never scary IMO, but the aesthetic was still horror. Scary doesn't = horror.

I would say after looking at aesthetics and lore my points still stand. Huntress was my example. Was it a bad one?

I didn't say they would like it "most" I said it was an important aspect of DBD becoming popular in the first place. Aesthetic is important for media, but I think most people would say that gameplay is more important. Anyways, the most common opinion I've seen about the aesthetics in my experience is most players miss the old look.

Of course the people who miss the old aesthetic are the most vocal ones, the people who already enjoys the current aesthetic have no reason to speak up.

It looks to me to be more of a vocal minority.

Halloween really let DBD take off, and Idk if they would have gotten the license if they didn't play their cards with horror.

If dbd wasn't horror, they most likely would have gone for a different license that fitted the genre the game would be in instead.

I think there has to be more than intent involved, otherwise, no one would fail at art and storytelling.

That's why you have the story itself to back that intend up with, Trickster's story is no more horror than ghostface's is.

Trickster IMO is a failed attempt at horror. He doesn't belong in the category.

and IMO, Trickster is more horror than Ghostface is, if a story is solid, it can back the design up, something Trickster's story very much is.

Thing is, you can have the writers come out and say their intention, you can have a scary batman horror story, but that wouldn't change Batman IP from a superhero franchise into a horror franchise all of the sudden.

Same way that Dead by Daylight doesn't suddenly stop being a horror IP since that is what it is officially established and classified as despite making something like Hooked on You or bringing in non-horror related cosmetics.

I've haven't gatekept what's scary, but there is still a difference in something that is classified as a horror IP and something that isn't.

You can have horror theme'd things in a non-horror IP, but that wouldn't make it into a horror IP all of the sudden.

Dead by Daylight is officially classified and labeled as a horror IP while Batman is not. That's not an opinion, that's a fact.

Having a niche horror movie added to an officially classified horror game such as dbd still fit better because they're both officially classified as horror.

It's reasonable that you don't wanna see old DBD come back, but then I could turn around and say "You're gatekeeping what the best version of DBD is and not supporting people who want the option!" sharing opinions on what is and isn't horror isn't gatekeeping any more than that is.

It may not be gatekeeping, but thinking something that has an officially recognized title within the horror genre as not being horror wouldn't make it any less part of the horror genre.

You edited it. It says on the comment when you edit things. I saw what you put before you edited it.

Fine, that one is on me.

Okay, and all the maps are made out of the memories, which means the time of day doesn't matter to the Entity when it feeds on more than just the suffering of both the killer & survivors.

Dead by Daylight is no different than Dead by Dawn, which is just a saying and not an actual literal meaning.

The sun on daytime maps isn't real

Ormond looked just as awful as old MacMillan did, Coldwind is a vast improvement as now it actually feels like something from Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Eyrie is still a better looking map than any of the old maps did.

The current aesthetic is 10x better than the old washed out boring ps2 graphics that was disgustingly ugly to look at, especially the blue tint on MacMillan maps.

They could update the graphics, but to make maps so peaceful and bright IMO is too far.

The maps are no more peaceful than what they were before.

IMO bright maps are still fine because it adds variety to the game, if it stood to some people, they take it a step further and add different times of day to each map.

Fair enough. I would still say if Trickster is horror, Joker may as well be.

And i would still say that Trickster is a horror character while joker isn't.

In the game from years ago. Dredge is alright tho. I look at Knight, SM, Trickster, and I don't think "horror genre!" I think "Fantasy RPG? Fallout? Dating sim?"

No more than i look at Deathslinger or Legion and don't think ''horror genre'' I think Red Dead Redemption & Payday 2.

DBD was never scary IMO, but the aesthetic was still horror. Scary doesn't = horror.

Never said it did, that's why i called horror universal and scary is subjective, because they're not one and the same.

The new aesthetic is also still horror, just a more vast and expanded one.

I would say after looking at aesthetics and lore my points still stand. Huntress was my example. Was it a bad one?

Kinda, because the people saying Huntress has the mind of a child is incorrect.

The original aesthetic is too limiting for how vast and diversed the horror genre is and how many different types of horror that can be added to the game, the new aesthetic support the inclusion of them easier, which is a good thing.

  • The rule of thumb is never trust random steam invites or anything they say or send to you.

It's hard to say. I think if it wasn't a dark scary asymmetrical horror it wouldn't have gotten this far. Aesthetic matters a lot when world building. I think now that it's gotten this far they can get away with changing up the original aesthetic, but I don't think it's a smart move in the long term and I don't think its good for the people who liked DBD for what it is.

Again, what are we gonna consider horror? Intense action movies are scary to some people. Murder is scary to people. Is the joker and Harley Quinn horror villains? Is Die Hard a horror movie? Sure, I don't wanna sit here and dictate what people do or don't find scary, but DBD was built on a certain vibe that honestly, I don't think is scary, but I would still call horror.

The fans called it Smash Bros of horror to roast them, at least that's the impression I got from the community. If the devs are doing it I'm assuming it's taking a joke the community made and owning it, like "pretty good job so far"

Scary is subjective. Horror is a genre.

Eh, gatekeeping is a non-issue 95% of the time. I agree snoppy elitist behaviour like saying "you can't be a real fan unless you know these facts, or look like me, or aren't an icky girl!" is really cringe, but original fans making points about how the game is changing in ways that don't fit isn't gatekeeping IMO.

Didn't I make a post about missing old DBD and wanting to see it come back as a game mode for the people who would want that, and you commented something like I must be blinded by nostalgia, then you changed it to say OPTIONAL OR NOT you never wanna see old DBD again? That's a respectable opinion, but don't then turn around and say I'm coming off as a gatekeeper.

But maybe the realm should still be dark and grim. I agree that it isn't anymore, but I think it's worse for it.

The Trickster is a pretty k-pop murderer man. Maybe that's scary, but I think he would fit in an anime style dating sim about a girl who falls in love with a charming psychopath than a horror game. That's just me and I know I'm not alone, but I understand a lot of people really like Trickster.

Danny and Doctor aren't innocent, that's not what I meant. I meant they come off as functional and even successful people like Trickster does, but done well IMO.

A few horror elements shouldn't qualify you to be in a horror game IMO. You might as well make Joker a killer.

Huntress is not a big woman in a mask, some would call her a feral woman with a sadistic childlike mind in a creepy mask. Slinger doesn't look normal at all, he looks deformed and nothing about him is appealing. Again, killers can be appealing but it should still fit the original aesthetic IMO. I never liked Chucky, but I still think he's a creepy doll.

I have never seen a single person praise or note the old graphics for being an aspect they like the most about dbd, most people didn't even talk about it until the realm beyond happened.

I think the game would have been the same regardless if the game started out with the reworked graphics since most people play the game for the gameplay and the licenses.

The intend is what matters, what is intended as horror is what is considered to be horror.

Trickster is a horror character because he was made with the intend as a horror character.

Joker & Harley Quinn is intended as supervillains for a comic series that isn't horror intended, therefore they are not horror characters despite doing bad stuff.

My previous point was that things which are intended as horror will always be horror no matter what, regardless if people don't like those parts of the horror genre or think it's not valid in comparison to the conventional horror parts of the genre.

DBD may have been built on a certain vibe, but they have clearly built more onto that foundation that there's room for more than that.

The fans called it Smash Bros of horror to roast them, at least that's the impression I got from the community. If the devs are doing it I'm assuming it's taking a joke the community made and owning it, like "pretty good job so far"

I'm pretty sure the people in the community calling the game the smash bros of horror is not meant as a roast since most people say it in a positive manner whenever there's a topic about how big dbd has become with all it's collection of licenses.

In fact, i have not seen a single soul so far in this community use any of those titles i mentioned in a negative way until now.

I see it as gatekeeping when people reject other parts of the horror genre to be added into the game

Also you're writing with an original fan who don't think the game is changing in ways that don't fit.

Me saying that i don't want old dbd regardless if it's optional or not is not meant as gatekeeping, it just means i won't support the idea no matter what, however that does not mean you're not entitled have that opinion and if some old dbd thing does get added to the game, i'll simply just accept it's existence and just not touch it.

I can't find anything from your previous threads of me saying to you specifically you're blinded by nostalgia, so i'm not sure what you're referering to.

But maybe the realm should still be dark and grim. I agree that it isn't anymore, but I think it's worse for it.

I think it's for the better, variety is better than having all maps have a consistent grim dark theme across the board, it would make it all feel very samey and imo boring.

I personally always found the old graphics really ugly with props that basically had no shadow and was too bright in a dark night setting that had some badly colored filters.

The Trickster is a pretty k-pop murderer man. Maybe that's scary, but I think he would fit in an anime style dating sim about a girl who falls in love with a charming psychopath than a horror game. That's just me and I know I'm not alone, but I understand a lot of people really like Trickster.

You're entitled to your opinion, but your reasoning behind why you think that is something i find to be just very shallow.

Danny and Doctor aren't innocent, that's not what I meant. I meant they come off as functional and even successful people like Trickster does, but done well IMO.

I wouldn't qualify Doctor in that regard.

I'd also say Trickster is done better than Ghostface IMO.

A few horror elements shouldn't qualify you to be in a horror game IMO. You might as well make Joker a killer.

Except there's still more than enough horror elements in the game.

There might have been some that have disappeared as the game have evolved, but it's far from few.

Also all horror games stops being scary eventually, especially multiplayer ones.

I know but this is what i mean, if you're gonna compare characters, at least do it equally cross all characters you're comparing to each other, instead of going ''this killer doesn't fit because of his aesthetic, he's hot and is k-pop related'' while with other characters, you go into more details for why they fit such as parts of their character, lore or personality, instead of just surface level stuff only.

At least that's what it comes off as.
