I mean, for anyone who hasn't played it, he's just a very plain, boring looking guy, with mediocre perks.
It's not exactly two-way license deal. Some Alan Wake fans might try DBD but no one is going to go from DBD to Alan Wake from this.
I mean, for anyone who hasn't played it, he's just a very plain, boring looking guy, with mediocre perks.
I don't really see any issue with that, not to mention there's already more than enough existing Survivors in DBD that are plain & boring looking and some of the characters in some of the IPs people have been requesting are also very plain & boring looking, yet i'm not seeing anyone saying anything about those characters. It honestly feels like a double standard to some extent.
Also we still don't know what changes they're gonna give his perks yet, so he could still get stronger perks on live release.
It's not exactly two-way license deal. Some Alan Wake fans might try DBD but no one is going to go from DBD to Alan Wake from this.
You don't really know that, i know i'm going to pick up the Alan Wake games due to his inclusion in dbd, i've also seen some people saying they're gonna buy, play or beat Alan Wake games before the chapter drops, safe to assume there are also non-vocal people who are also going to do the same.
Also you could apply the same to Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil & Silent Hill when their chapters came out.
-
Besides DBD, i'm currently dividing my time between Pinball M, Team Fortress 2, Meet Your Maker, Left 4 Dead 2 & soon Alan Wake 1.
-
Sticking mainly to a character's theme is fine, however it is also fine to divert from it, at least to an extend.
Vittorio in any type of clothing including modern ones make sense because his entire theme revolve around realm traveling and exploring different realms, cultures and philosophies, his default cosmetic being stuff he found from a dead Survivor as well falls in line with his theme.
What i'm mainly against are mobile cosmetics, which are cosmetics created with their own themes in order for it to be worn by as many characters as possible rather than being a cosmetic made specifically to fit a single character as it is specifically made to fit them and only them like the cosmetics found on core dbd.

Wasn’t about the Alan Wake Chapter, at all.
Many people seemed to be hyped over AW, but it just felt like wasting a Survivor roster spot, as there are so many far more appealing and worthwhile options that (imo, imo) would have garnered way more enthusiasm and hype from the playerbase than freaking Alan Wake lol.
Completely disagree, out of all the IPs they could have picked, Alan Wake is probably the most fitting one they could have added to DBD in just about every aspect.

I mean rainbow six seige got into dbd, a "horror" game
anything really is possible
R6 Siege didn't get in as a chapter though.
Also outside of skins, i'm pretty sure anything too big would not be able to fit in dbd since killers must be able to follow the ground rules of the game to work.

I've always said that if they did a The Thing chapter, then as an ALTERNATIVE to hooking, if you did as much effort as hooking someone, you could instead infect them. This would change their team to the Killer said and then they'd only win with the killer. That would counter SWFs, as the survivor would actively want to trick their friends into thinking they are still on their side.
Now how would that actually work? I dunno...let's brainstorm, lol. Would be hilarious having a 4 man survivor squad tea-bagging at the exit gate only to suddenly realize that 3 of the survivors are also Things and that you're entirely alone.
Best way to do it is by doing a zombie infection/deceit hybrid type game mode since it would allow for more than 5 players in total and make something like assimilation infection justified as a primary hooking alternative.
In terms of the game mode we already have however, i only see two ways that is feasible enough that assimilation could be implemented since there are only 4 Survivors. You either make it a tool used mainly to cause uncertainty cause of the rng chance you've been infected OR You can do some infection thing to 2 or 3 Survivors max when they've been downed that they won't know the killer has done to them.
@BlightedDolphin said:
My issue is what would the Thing look like when NOT shape shifting? The true form of The Thing is never shown so would it just always be a survivor? Or maybe defaults to a random killer? Would we finally see what it actually looks like?
Just use the Original Thing from the 2011 prequel as the default form.

Of course you can't remove SWF since well it would mess up the game a lot since it is also a co-op game but I think it is still the idea of a SWF would constantly say what their up too which could make playing the killer a little challenging or just boring since their isn't much pressure unless your facing SoloQ.
Perhaps a little more challenging, but like i said, the solution is to work around it by making it harder for them to tell each other apart.
Here are some examples of how.
- Hiding information normally available for Survivors to see via the hud such as name, health states, etc.
- Giving The Thing the ability to see within a certain range Survivor's auras to strategically coordinate it's location to get a better jump on the Survivors when transforming back into it's normal form.
- Making Assimilation part of The Thing's power kit which has a small chance of infecting Survivors upon being injured from it, which the Survivors won't know has happen to them until it's too late and they turn into a Survivor-Thing themselves that can assist The Thing (If the Survivor-Thing refuses to assist The Thing, the killer player can just kick the player from the match and have an A.I take over.)
- Having The Thing suppress any of the Survivor's aura reading perks and items unless they take a Blood Kit Test.
- Being able to attack Survivors while Mimicking as one.
These are just some examples of how to work around SWF on comms, sure it won't really eliminate voice comm people from reporting their locations 24/7, however it still gives The Thing a greater advantage to utilitze it's power against them while adding uncertainty.
You can also give The Thing a Form Shift via add-ons that allows it to change into one of the Things from the John Carpenter movie that grants it a new power for a limited time until it turns back to it's normal form.
Also i don't think it's impossible for the devs to give the Survivor's cosmetics to The Thing when mimicking due to the fact that DC bots doesn't lose their cosmetics.
-
Problem is that everything except The Dark Picture's Anthology is owned by other companies, Until Dawn is owned by Sony, The Quarry is owned by 2K & The Casting of Frank Stone is owned by BHVR, Supermassive just developed those games for the mentioned companies.
As far as Until Dawn goes, knowing Sony and how they love having stuff exclusive for the playstation and other kinds of things that gives them some kind of advantage, i wouldn't count on it making it into dbd anytime soon.
-
You can't remove SWF, but you can work around it and try to make it as hard as possible for people to tell each other apart and who they can trust.

You’re welcome!
I want a full blown chapter with Kimberly and Tommy as the base Survivors and all the other ones as Legendary Sets.
Rita Repulsa would be the killer and Lord Zedd will be her legendary cosmetic. The mori would be them making themselves grow and stomping on the survivor.
Considering that dbd's chapters are only for horror IPs & original horror stuff, if there ever was to be anything power rangers related, i expect it to be either a single legendary skin similar to the R6 Siege skin for Renato or some cosplay cosmetics similar to the SH & RE Feng cosmetics.
Also unless the license holder doesn't care about the IP's portrayal, i don't think they would allow for it in the first place as DBD is very contrasting both in action and overall tone compared to Power Rangers. Sure we can put a spin on it to be more horror adjacent, but just remember that majority of people who is interested in the franchise will be expecting from it what the franchise is most known for rather than what it is not.
That's not to say you aren't allowed to want it in dbd, i'm just saying it's very unlikely to happen.
-
Anything is honestly better than 2v8.

Nah, i don't miss the old aesthetic or graphics and looking at those pictures of them just reminds me of how absolutely downgraded and ugly they were.
The new ones however are 100x better in every way.

Sure I miss old DBD, apart from:
- Original 1-click BNP
- 0 hook moris
- Insta heals that were actually instant and healed two health states
- Omegablink Nurse (or old Nurse in general)
- Prayerbeads Spirit
- Old Iri Head
- Double-pallet loops, impossible jungle gyms and true infinites
- Old DS / hook juggling
- Old Object of Obsession *shudders*
- Keys + multiple escapes through hatch before gens were done
- Moonlight offerings that made the game unplayably dark
- Old Haddonfield
- Old Cowshed
- Original Pale Rose
- Stretched res
- Old Wraith before his many buffs
- Old BT that protected the unhooker as well and was tied to the terror radius
- Old Doctor with the stance switching
- Old Freddy the DC magnet and overall cure for insomnia
- Old Bubba that didn't even have charges to his power
- Old Clown that only had 1 type of bottle
- Original MoM
- Fugly-ass old graphics and animations (muh atmosphere)
- Trap sabotage (and Trapper in general before his many buffs)
- Permanent hook sabotage
- Old sluggish killer animations that lasted twice as long (hooking survivors, setting traps, etc.)
- Old bloodwebs that were slooooooooooooow and took a million years to level your characters
- Mega bloodweb clutter with three rarities of map offerings
- Peer to peer matchmaking so you had to re-invite everyone in your group every time the killer dodged
- Actual facecamping with hooks that didn't swivel
- Clunky old animations like full hook patdowns even if you cancelled the interaction
To name but a few things.
On second thoughts, the only thing I miss is all the people I used to play with who abandoned the game because of everything that was wrong with it back then.
Don't forget
- Hatch standoffs
- Old prestige that removed everything you had saved
- Old Spirit's phasing sound being directionless so that people were forced to play the guessing game
- Old Deathslinger's ADS speed that was used in chase to create lose lose situations for the Survivor
- Original depips having no checkpoints and could undo all the ranks you've already reached
- Original ranks rewarding up to a max of 250K only
- Every QOL features and changes that people have been asking for a long time that didn't exist yet back then such as bots, loadout preset, standard video game options along with more accessability options and so many more
- Pallet Vacuum
- Old Dead Hard
- Older versions of maps such as Red Forest ones that were way bigger in size than they are now
- Locker flashlight stun
- Lightburn's general existence
- Bloodpoint limit being set to 1 mil max
- The killswitch feature not existing
-
There's nothing from old dbd that i miss as it was all worse in every aspect, i say good riddance to it all and hope none of it ever returns.
Can't wait for them to get rid of the last remnants of old dbd still remaining in the game.
-
Give me Phantasm as well as Pumpkinhead, Wishmaster & Re-Animation and i'll have 4 out of 5 of my dream chapters realized.

Isn't Scratch in the rift? I haven't finished Alan Wake 2 but people are saying that this is scratch.
Judging by how the banner features two Alan Wakes, yeah i would say it's Scratch too.
Guess that means we'll never get him as a killer and he'll just be a Survivor skin, which is disappointing really.

Maybe one day we can also get Mr. Scratch as a killer or as a killer skin.

The only smart choice for a bodyguard would be Knight due to having his guards to back him up.
Also partying is a waste of time when you can take Ace with you and hit the Casino for a night of luck.
-
We can't get any of his movie looks because they're owned by their respective companies rather than cage himself, who is the one bhvr have a contract with.
Only things we can get are his real life clothing and whatever original stuff which he approves of that bhvr creates themselves for his character.
-
Anything that brings old freddy back is already sitting at the lowest of the lowest on the priority list for me, however he does get something, i hope bhvr actually comes up with an entirely new iteration of his power rather than reverting stuff back.
Edit: Also the fact that it's remake/flop version of freddy and not the real freddy makes it even less of a priority for me.

Since Lovecraft's work falls under public domain, i highly doubt they would try and go for any of the adaptations of his work.

A billy who goes for curves and all that are some of the highest skilled players in the game since with billy rn it is so hard to pull off. If I get hit by a billy curve it was 100% deserved.
Good for them, however that does not change that he's still one of my least favorite killers to play against.
I have more fun playing against SM, Knight & Nurse than i do when against Billy.
-
I'm one of those few people who absolutely hate chainsaw only billy as well as engraving billies, even before the second billy rework, i've said more than once that billy along with Blight & Wesker were my 3 least favorite killers in the game.
-
Positivity? On the forum?
-
Prefer either the normal looking human killers like Trickster, Ghostface & Legion or supernatural killers like Dredge.
-
I mean there are plenty to pick from, such as the following.
- Cropsey (Would love a chapter for the cult classic horror movie ''The Burning'' with that movie's iteration of Cropsey as a killer.)
- Bigfoot/Sasquatch
- Bloody Mary
- El Chupacabra
- Yeti
- Flatwoods monster
- Ke-alii-ai Kanaka (aka The chief who eats men)
- Kuchisake-onna (aka The Slit-Mouthed Woman)
- Spring-Heeled Jack
- La Llorona
- The Boggy Creek Monster
- The Char-Man
- Homey the Clown
- The Goat Man of Pope Lick
- Momo the Missouri Monster
- Area 51
- The Jersey Devil (Although bhvr did make their own Jersey Devil game long ago)
- La Mala Hora
- The werewolf of Defiance
- The Bandage Man of Cannon Beach
- The Bunnyman
- The Loch Ness Monster
- Mothman
- Yowie
- Aka Manto
- Yōkai
Currently we only have Hag who is directly inspired by The Wendigo, Spirit + Oni being both directly based after their respective folklore/urban legends counterparts & Huntress who is mostly inspired after the Baba Yaga.

i mean i think "hearing killer voicelines but not ur own" would be a nice 4th option, i do like tricksters and pinheads voice lines
Then you might as well also add ''hearing only Survivor voicelines'' & ''hearing everyone's voicelines'' to the list.
You can also go the advanced route if you want and have an on & off toggle option for every talking character.
-
@IlliterateGenocide said:
if there is not an option already i would love if one sided voice lines were able to be toggled
An option that let's us switch between the following would be nice.
- Hearing no voicelines at all
- Only hearing your own Survivor's voicelines
- You hearing all Survivor's voicelines
-
Then i would be fine with it, although preferably actors within the horror genre as one of their characters.
-
If they don't play one of their characters, then none of them really.
-
Nicolas Cage because he's Nicolas Cage, plus he's the only character with in-match voicelines.
However once Alan Wake releases, i'll be having a second main.

I'd rather they take their time fixing maps instead of giving them the GoJ and Ormond treatment, where pretty much everything remains the same and (almost) none of the issues are actually fixed.
They already said that the house at Garden of Joy was a problem and that they would change the house itself, but that it wouldn't be part of the changes for the map that was coming in that patch as it needed more time to get done.

From my POV, the underlying issue is that BHVR concerns itself too much with what the community feels is good and/or bad.
Peanits has been quoted on the fact that different regions see different metas, because the game isn't played the same all around the world. That's not sustainable! A game must be something, and then people must decide if they like that thing.
To quote famous architect, Louis Kahn,
"You say to Brick, 'What do you want, Brick?' And Brick says to you, 'I like an Arch.' And if you say to Brick, 'look, arches are expensive, and I can use a concrete lintel. What do you think of that, Brick?' Brick says, 'I like an Arch.' And it's important, you see, that you honor the material that you use. [...] You can only do it if you honor the brick and glorify the brick instead of shortchanging it."
Dead by Daylight wants to be something.
Designers are suppose to figure out what that something is, but that is not how BHVR is operating. It's a shame.
From my POV, the underlying issue is that BHVR concerns itself too much with what the community feels is good and/or bad.
tbf, they have done things before that wasn't based on what the community felt was good or bad, the outcome is either that the majority either gets used to it eventually or that people will continue to request for it to be changed until it happens. Also everytime they do something that someone don't like, you are going to have people saying stuff like ''nobody asked for this'' as an argument why it shouldn't have happened, so it's kinda hard for bhvr to not concern themselves about what the community feels because more often than not, it'll just lead to some level of backlash and player dissatisfaction, which isn't a good thing in the long run.
Peanits has been quoted on the fact that different regions see different metas, because the game isn't played the same all around the world. That's not sustainable! A game must be something, and then people must decide if they like that thing.
I don't think that's a problem nor that it's unsustainable, having people decide for themselves what the best way to play the game just means there is enough player agency that allows for it which i think is a good thing. I think it would be a problem is if the devs were to try and decide/control for people how they must play the game.
Granted some player agency have already been removed for the health of the game, but there needs to be a balance between both in order to keep people engaged.
Dead by Daylight wants to be something.
Designers are suppose to figure out what that something is, but that is not how BHVR is operating. It's a shame.
You need to remember that Asymmetrical games like Dead by Daylight is not an easy thing to get right as you cannot balance or design it like you would design a game in another genre. The asym genre itself is still relatively new compared to other existing video game genres, so there aren't really alot of successful games you can look to for ideas on what you should or shouldn't do to get such a game right, alot of other Asym games have died because they couldn't get it right for one reason or another.
Also whatever bhvr wants dbd to be, it's clear that the community have other ideas on what that should be instead, so they cannot do entirely their own thing without risking alienating the playerbase, but they cannot also do entirely what the community wants as it would be downright impossible since what the community wants is not just one thing and often it is very divisive on what it is they want, so the obvious answer seems to be finding a balance between both.

True, but what I hear most when I go posting about it is, this would be fun chapter but SWF would make the killer useless. Seeing Warhammer 40k made me think of good skins.
While you cannot eliminate SWF on comms, you can try and work around it by making it harder for them to tell & know who they can trust.
Few examples of this could be done by hiding hud elements normally available for Survivors, making assimilation infection something that has a chance of happening when harming Survivors which they won't know has happened to them until they eventually turn into Survivor-Things that can assist the killer, having the Thing be able to see other Survivors while mimicked or having decoy A.I Survivor-Things roam the map for a limited time that will approach other Survivors whenever an actual Survivor sees one of their teammates.
There are also different forms that the Thing could potentially take as some kind of Form Shifting ability, giving it the looks of the different Things from the movie, along with new powers for a limited time.

TBH considering Sony is the publisher, i don't hold much hope for it to be added, just like how i don't hold much hope for Until Dawn to be added because that too is under Sony's say so.

While it is one of the most iconic horror movies. And it’d probably make lots of memes about the killer. But SWF exists so I doubt this will ever become a chapter.
Just a reminder that The Thing, Outlast, Castlevania & Ghostbusters was mentioned in last year's license survey, so they do still have their chances of being added, especially Outlast as one of the devs during one of their Outlast Trial streams told people to ask bhvr for a collab with Outlast when asked about it.

He does not, probably for the same reason i have not added any solutions to that matter, because this will be a serious wall of text and a lot of work. And it will still only cover the survace.
The issue is, the game is already so deep in trouble (fundamentaly) that it will be extremly hard to get out of it.
How do you change a map when you have a killer like Pig and a killer like Knight in the same game? Or Nurse? Or Skull Merchant? Its at the current state litteraly impossible to come up with something decent.
The argument in the video might be a little bit dramatic saying that this is the beginning of the end of DBD, but he has some strong points. When the best licenses we had in years actually lower the playerbase, something has to be done for sure. And his optinion makes sense, at least in my mind.

You can't change maps to fit all killers, some maps would have to either be changed entirely to how they play, they would no longer be the same maps they used to be.
I am of the opinion that you shouldn't aim to change maps to fit every single killer, instead what should be done is change how many loops & tiles there should be on one map, what should main buildings be like and how big should maps be in general.
I also think you can't fix the way maps are structured without removing alot of map variety in general, which i believe is a bad thing for the game overall.

Sure, solutions are appreciated, thats why this:
Constructive feedback to help the devs fixing the issue is very welcome. I will later on when i find the time add my thoughts on that. The issue is, that this game is not fixable with the bandaids we get from update to update, but rather with some fundamental changes.
But to be fair, the players showcase the problem, the DEVS job is to fix it. Still, cant hurt to add some ideas - will do that later.
But that's the thing, he's just saying that it needs fundamental changes, he doesn't come up with any ideas on how that should be done, only pointing out that it needs changes, saying ''fix these issues'' is not giving solutions.
It may be the devs job to fix things, but there is a reason feedback & suggestions exist, which is to provide feedback and ideas on how to fix and improve issues exactly like maps and sbmm, however as stated before, it's kinda hard to change things like maps when the community are not in an agreement on what a good map design standard is to begin with.
-
I'm just gonna copy what i posted last time someone reposted this video.
-
Videos like these are usually only good for pointing problems out rather than bringing up solutions to the issues.
It's easy to say that we need to remove SBMM, but what are we gonna replace it with instead? Bringing the old ranking system back is not the solution as it will just bring back the same issues people had with that matchmaking back when it was in place. If we bring a new system as a replacement, then what is this system gonna prioritize instead that will make the experience better for all parties involved? How many variables should this system focus on compared to SBMM? Questions like these needs to be answered first.
As far as map design goes, i think the main problem is that there is no general consensus shared amongst the community as a whole on what constitutes as good & fair map design in dbd overall, as you'll have divided opinions on that as different people will claim any map is either bad design or good design depending on who you ask, Nostromo Wreckage is the latest example of where you'll have some claim it's either the best map design we've had in a long time or that it's the worst one yet. So until the community comes to an agreement on what the game's map design standard should strive for to be, it'll be hard to tell the devs how to fix maps in a solid way that makes them feel fair for both sides.
-
Out of all the franchises in the game, only Evil Dead, Alan Wake & Hellraiser would have something even remotely worth making an entire second dlc out of as Evil Dead has the Kandarian Demon, Alan Wake has Mr. Scratch & Hellraiser has Dr. Channard.
The rest of the franchises however, i don't think they're worth making a second dlc out of.
Halloween, Ring & ANOES all have their only important antagonist from their respective franchises in the game already, anything else would just be Survivor only chapters.
Every other Jigsaw apprentice from SAW, every remaining Xenomorph variant from Alien, the rest of Sawyer family members from TCM & Glen/Glenda from Child's Play/Chucky would work better as legendary skins than as their own killer.
Ghostface is unrelated to Scream so anything more for him would just be original stuff.
Vecna would be a waste of a killer slot imo & none of the other Silent Hill monsters or antagonists are memorable enough to me to care about having them as their own killers.
We already have a second Resident Evil dlc, a third one would be too much.
Nicolas Cage is just Nicolas Cage only, nothing more to find there.
-
Any none horror related IPs should either only be added as cosmetics and nothing more or just not be added at all, superhero stuff especially.
-
I think the flames are there more for the Survivor's sake than the killer, as without some tell sign during chase, they would have no way to tell when Billy enters overdrive.

SBMM for example does damage the game as long as it is in the game and it will drive Players away, some of them will never come back. Or relatively simple QoL-Features that People ask for.
Here's a great Video that talk's about a lot of these Things. It's not just about Map Design, don't let the Title fool you.
So until the community comes to an agreement on what the map design's standard should strive for to be, it'll be hard to tell the devs how to fix maps in a solid way that makes them feel fair for both sides.

He's got a cool mask, that's for sure. Compared to the other killers in DBD his design is incredibly unique, badass, and sticks out pretty well. Definitely one of my favorite characters in the game.
It's more about how often bhvr uses him that makes him feel like the face of the game.
