I think what ruined the ring dlc for me was it being teased months in advanced if I can recall

Part of me is kinda glad they did because then leakers didn't have a chance to spoil it, but on the other hand, i too would also prefered if they hadn't teased it so far in advanced.

Still, i think the fact that dbd is the first game in 2 decades to get official Ring related content is pretty huge and speaks volume of how popular and recognizable the game has become.

Sure, i did not mention survivors tho. Was focusing on the horror villain icons.

The ring was a successful movie and even bigger when we include Ringu, but for me personally, it is just a random horror movie license with not much to it besides the one hit wonder it was. On top of that, it is not very special.

Compared to those one tier above. Saw, TCM, Hellraiser, Scream, Resident Evil. Ring is not even close to any of those licences in terms of popularity or impact. And it had very little impact on the game aswell.

But this is just my opinion. Its not more or less correct then yours.

Except here's the thing, you may not see it as anything significant, but that does not change that it is very much objectively a popular and very important horror franchise that has had a big impact on horror, especially with J-horror.

Just to give you an idea of it's impact, here is a bit from a dead meat video talking about just how impactful Ring has been. (From Timestamp to 1:26

    https://youtu.be/9zmLRzdsL44?si=jpgTmmZUv3CXAGA7&t=51

You not finding it anything special or the people you talk with not knowing it does not change the fact that alot of people, and i mean ALOT of people, is familiar in some way or form with the imagery of the long haired ghost girl that crawls out of the TV. That's not an opinion, that is a fact.

Compared to those one tier above. Saw, TCM, Hellraiser, Scream, Resident Evil. Ring is not even close to any of those licences in terms of popularity or impact.

Considering how big it's impact has been, i'd argue Ring is more popular than Hellraiser and has had a bigger impact on horror in general than what SAW, Hellraiser and Scream has had altogether.

Same argument can be applied to Hellraiser & TCM.

    Okay i can do that:

Myers is in the absolute top, and also alone because he is without a doubt the most important licence we ever got. Without him, there is a good chance, this game would have actually died long time ago. Myers brought DBD back on the map with a big Blast.

A Tier killers have something very significant to them: Demogorgon was the first Netflix / TV series liecence and it is an insanly popular one. Freddy is then 2nd of the great 3 and therefore very important and beloved. PH was the first character from another video game frenchise - and probably one, if not the most iconic we have in horror.

Everything below that are still great characters and good licences, but not nearly as imporant as the others above.

D Tier is for Sadako. If i ask any person, also horror fans what her name is, most would not even know. She is a cool license, like any licence is, but not very big and important overall. Wesker is 2nd Resident Evil character. Nice to have, but really nowhere near as important as the others above. He is easily changeable for many others characters, even from that game.

PH was the first character from another video game frenchise

    That title belongs to Bill.

D Tier is for Sadako. If i ask any person, also horror fans what her name is, most would not even know. She is a cool license, like any licence is, but not very big and important overall.

To say that The Ring, which is essentially the stephen king of J-horror, is not a very big and important IP is just flat out incorrect.

i play all killers and survs as an achievement hunter with about 30 days on the game and 89% trophies(i like to brag about this)

I too am an achievement hunter, already have 100% in achievements.

It's just when i've gotten all corrosponding achievements to the characters that i don't touch those characters again.

I would not say Amanda is irredeemable going off of the Saw films. Jigsaw is the main reason why she is the way she is.

I would say she is irredeemable on the basis that she intentionally killed her victims by rigging their games to be unwinnable because she believed people couldn't change despite them going through Jigsaw's tests.

  • I'd move

    • Mastermind, Shape & Dredge up to Pure Evil

I actually like swamp. I only think the map is too small and some jungle gyms are too bad.

If it gets reworked, the map will most likely be a free 4K for killers, considering the other reworks.

They've already confirmed that a swamp rework is happening and it cannot come any sooner, so that we may finally get rid of the ridiculous double window tile featured on both maps.

I'll take a ''free 4K for killers'' rework as you call it over what we have now any day.

  • Until they rework it, both Swamp maps holds the title for worst maps imo.

  • Nobody.

Aside from Nic Cage which is probably the only exception as he has played himself in some of his movies, i'd just rather have actors portray their characters in-game than as themselves.

  • Base game voice chat was a terrible idea in the past and it still is and always will forever be a terrible idea no matter what.

There will never be an iteration of a base game voice chat that wouldn't bring more cons than pros into the game along with all the things it would bring with it, such as people playing obnoxious music, mic spamming, people openly mocking or shitting on the other side for doing poorly, every kind of slur being used to any player on the map for any reason.

It doesn't matter how much of a percentage of people that will use it seriously when the majority of solo players will most likely either not use it entirely or they'll just use & abuse it for anything other than what it's intended purpose is for as people over the internet cannot be trusted to behave themselves.

Don't believe me? Just look to literally any major pvp game (especially the ones with very sweaty playerbases) that has base game voice chat and having ways for players that allows them to express themselves in-game to others, the result is always the same no matter what.

  • Sidney Prescott, only because her inclusion will hopefully open up the possibility of getting the Scream ropes and the Buck 120 knife as cosmetics for Ghostface with voicelines from Roger L Jackson included, it would also check Scream off the list of the last 6 remaining licenses from the 80s & 90s missing from dbd's roster before it is complete in my eyes.

Also, would absolutely hate having a furry Survivor.

I'm also a bit jealous how mobile come up with high quality skins than core. Even new survivors get more skins at their debut with general outfit skins being accessible to them. Core devs really needs to take a few notes on how to make good skins like them.

Pretty sure the only reason mobile make their cosmetics look as eye-candy looking and as accessable to as many characters as possible is to have as many people as possible to spend money on their gacha system, it's honestly no different from how they sell cosmetics in Identity V.

Personally i'm not a fan of their cosmetics on dbd mobile.

Rocket Launcher just isn't something that fit in DbD when the chapter initially dropped, how ever with Xeno's turrets I believe thats now an open door.

As for the other 2... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Xeno's turrets wouldn't justify the existence of things like actual guns and explosive launchers as the turret is a Survivor tool for defense against the killer rather than being able to use it for offense to attack with.

It's also why they chose to use a flame turret instead of a turret with bullets like seen in Aliens or why Leon got a Flash Bang instead of a Frag Grenade, as traditional ballistic projectile offense weaponry doesn't belong in this game, even Deathslinger's weapon more of an harpoon gun than an actual gun.

  • Hopefully some more unconventional or niche horror themes.

With all due respect, even the TCM game has night time variations of the maps and still deliver of the feel of trying to tie in with the movie.

Whilst the maps are now evocative of TCM and Billy clearly being 'their' Leatherface at the time, it was inititially included as a night time map so I don't think this reasoning is entirely credible. Yes they could keep a daytime variant to tie in more with the official Leatherface and TCM vibe, but I still would prefer nighttime variants of this and Ormond to exist. It's even more annoying that there's a nighttime variant in the Chucky announcement and not one in game.

Ultimately, the game is called Dead by Daylight. It makes it a bit antithetical to the entire premise to have daytime maps..

Personally if like to see all maps start off as night time maps and gradually get lighter as matches go on to reach an end point , but they'd have to put a timer on trials for that which theyd never do.

The premise has nothing to do with the title itself, it's nothing more than just a saying and not an actual literal meaning.

Same way that Dead by Dawn is just a saying and not an actual literal meaning.

    That's kind of obvious.

It seems also that a lot of members of that vocal minority are bent on making the game worse to fit their own personal issue.

I'm glad BHVR makes choices based on statistics (even if I may disagree with their conclusion about such or such issue.)

The funny thing is though, in some ways the community is more obsessed with changes done based off statistics than bhvr is.

I've honestly lost count on just how many times i've seen people make arguments for or against changes purely off of statistics seen from official dev stats, nightlight stats or any other community created stats.

There is food for thought here, but it is best suited for another post.

The idea here wasn't to discuss horror and its variations, but to collectively come up with an idea to bring the old maps back without hurting anyone else's experience.

I just don't like reworked Coldwind Farm, I don't think it fits within what I think DBD should be. This is an opinion, but so is every take here on the Forums.

I mean, i don't need to tell you what my stance on old dbd is or how much i oppose the very idea of bringing anything from old dbd back in any way, shape or form since you already know as i've made it very clear before.

That said however, i think an rng mechanic that randomly selects a time of day the maps will be played on is a good solution to adding more variety to current maps, with offerings that allow players to increase the chance of which time of day the map chooses from.

It wouldn't be exactly as bringing back how it was in old dbd, but it would give the people who prefer maps to play during a specific time of day the option to have that.

I don't really like it, but I respect your and @jesterkind opinion regarding Coldwind Farm. It is impossible to always agree with someone else.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3618549#Comment_3618549

Again, just like my ideas regarding Old Freddy, it is okay that you do not agree.

As long as they are respectful, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Except here's the thing, it's not about liking something or not, it's about the fact that horror can exist outside of conventional horror and that people who thinks horror cannot exist outside of that or that horror can only be serious are objectively wrong.

If horror didn't exist outside of the conventional, many horror movies and games wouldn't exist, TCM especially since the majority of it's most memorable scenes takes place during daytime.

You can dislike daytime coldwind by all means, but that doesn't make it's aesthetic any less horror as the genre isn't restricted to things like only taking place during the night or being 100% serious and dark only, because otherwise it's the same as saying that anything in the horror genre that is similar to that isn't horror either.

  • @jesterkind said:

It's not that I like it, it's that its horror atmosphere is pretty obvious. It's meant to look like TCM, which is pretty much the pinnacle of horror atmosphere. I'm not even saying anyone has to like it or prefer it to the old one, but the specific complaint that it lacks in horror atmosphere is just off the mark.

A separate game mode would be fine too, of course, I'm mostly only objecting to the idea of adding variants to the map pool. Though, when it comes to custom games, I'm also of the opinion that this game would benefit from a proper custom-game directory like Overwatch has, with some robust tools for curating the experience.

After all, the separate game mode would be dependant on people actually queuing in it, which might take long enough that it spurs people not to bother. The custom game directory entry would have at least a chance of filling quicker, in my opinion.

No more off the mark than when people say anything with levity in it isn't horror.

Honestly i hope we get more maps set outside of night time or that bhvr expands into more unconventional parts of the horror genre yet to be explored by the game.

The thing is that outlier percentage should be mostly the same despite the group size.

So you say, but without comparing it to a larger number, we won't know that for certain.

  • @HerInfernalMajesty said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3617597#Comment_3617597

The idea is that diversity of data is mostly evenly interspersed. So whether you get 100, 1,000, or even 10,000+ the proportion of statistical data outliers should mostly be the same. Greater data gives greater precision.

Let’s say out of 10,000 people, 1,000 enjoy Apples over Bananas. In 1,000 people the number should be 100. In 100 people that number should be 10. Now of course there will be slight variations but overall the deviations that stick out should be proportional to the whole.

Again 100 is usually the minimum accepted number. There are exceptions but I think the in this case 1,000 while not the most ideal, is still definitely good enough to show the outliers.

It’s a question of why are there outliers.

Now of course there will be slight variations but overall the deviations that stick out should be proportional to the whole.

If you compare 100,000 to 1000, it's going to be more than just a slight variation and the outliers could very much change entirely, especially since fun is subjective.

100 might be the minimal acceptable number, but it still only covers an incredibly small portion of an otherwise much larger playerbase and the more people you cover, the more accurate the stats will become, after all you said it yourself ''Greater data gives greater precision.''

To me, 1000 people only is simply too little an amount to be taken as anything concrete for any talks regarding changes to any killers.

Also any stats done by the community should be taken with a grain of salt no matter what.

  • @HerInfernalMajesty said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3617587#Comment_3617587

I can’t say that they don’t mean anything significant. It’s not perfect data (which is near impossible to obtain) but 1,000 more than accounts for statistical deviations. 100 is actually the minimum number.

In comparison to the entire survivor playerbase or even just a quarter of the entire survivor playerbase? 1000 survivors doesn't really tell enough stats-wise.

  • I wouldn't put too much stock into these stats as they don't really mean anything significant since they are only covering the opinions of 1000 Survivors and nothing more.

Really? Why not? Also, as far as I know we don't currently have any mobile skins (skins that first debuted/are exclusive to mobile) come to the core game, but correct me if I'm wrong.

We did have a handful of mobile skins like frost trapper & hillbilly along with some others, however the only netease mobile cosmetic we currently have is the Feng one from this year's halloween.

As far as why i don't want anymore netease cosmetic, it's because they're the same type of cosmetics found in Netease's other asym game ''Identity V'', meaning they're the type of eye candy cosmetic that are all flashy & clean looking while being able to fit as many Survivors as possible in order to get as many people as possible to spend on their gacha mechanics, rather than being cosmetics made to fit a specific character while still adhering to the game's themes like adding blood stains, rips in the fabric, dirt spots and overall make cosmetics look worn out to even a slight degree like most cosmetics on core has in some way or form.

Now granted, there are some eye candy cosmetics on core, however it is far fewer compared to how many there are on mobile. Also the netease feng cosmetic did get dirtied up and all future netease cosmetics is probably also going to get that, however i'm still not a fan how they're still just cosmetics with their own themes made to fit all Survivors, rather than being made to fit a single Survivor's theme even after recieving a recolor by bhvr as well as being dirtied up.

In short: Netease cosmetics are just generic and (for a lack of a better word) soulless to me.

  • None of them.

In fact, i would rather not have anymore mobile skins added to the game.

  • I personally like the backpacks, gives me something to look at when i'm running.

I feel like the ported ones look fine as they don’t make 1:1 ports but actually adjust them. And from what I have seen/remember now they make a good selection

I can agree that it's good they don't look overtly flashly like they do on mobile by not making a 1:1 port as well as adding blood stains, dirt spots and overall make them look worn out to varying degree, but then again how long until they start porting those uniform type cosmetics for Survivors? Those are the type of cosmetics i dislike the most from mobile as those are just cosmetics made to fit as many Survivors as possible, rather than being a cosmetic made to fit a specific Survivor.

They just come off as generic and soulless for a lack of a better word.

  • @Mooks said:

I can see why people like these mobile cosmetics. And there are some that I like too…

but most of them feel to me like they don’t fit the character, are over the top with accessories and patterns, lacking this torn up look, and until this very set literally everything was set cosmetics anyways.

    My thoughts exactly.

Never was a fan of mobile cosmetics for those reasons exactly, just as much as I'm not a fan of seeing them ported over to core.

Feels like dbd is slowly turning into tf2 cosmetic-wise.

The issue started with introcuding a lacklaster of prestige 100 that only brought a grind withit. My point was with the overall system inlcuding but not limited to Devotion Level etc. Sure does the Shrine of Secrets need a overhaul and so does the daily rituals. As you see, there is actually a lot of things that need a touch up which does not take a lot of time or effort - yet here we are, having none of that besides weird excuses. So yet again, its not about bragging rights - more about respecting the time players put into dead by daylight. And by the way there is no problem with showing that someone actually leveled up to 100.

The issue started with introcuding a lacklaster of prestige 100 that only brought a grind withit. My point was with the overall system inlcuding but not limited to Devotion Level etc. Sure does the Shrine of Secrets need a overhaul and so does the daily rituals.

So focus on those features instead of on some needless rewards for leveling up.

If people wanna waste their time reaching prestige, then more power to them, but i don't believe they deserve some reward for it other than what they already get for doing it.

As you see, there is actually a lot of things that need a touch up which does not take a lot of time or effort - yet here we are, having none of that besides weird excuses.

And how would you know how much time or effort something takes? We don't know how difficult or how much development time something needs, so let's not start assuming things here.

So yet again, its not about bragging rights - more about respecting the time players put into dead by daylight.

You're already given something for your time put into the bloodweb, which is bragging rights, you don't need anything else for a prestige system.

You want something more than that? Then tie it to the archive challenge system as extra rewards rather than the prestige system.

And by the way there is no problem with showing that someone actually leveled up to 100.

You're right, there is no problem with that, that's why you have a P100 number tied to your character for others to see.

    -

People who makes it their goal to reach P50 or P100 is a choice they have made, it shouldn't be something that everyone else should also feel the need to grind for because of some attractive customization reward that is locked behind some prestige number because people like you don't feel compensated enough for your time spent leveling.

We can keep going back and forth as much as you like, i firmly believe that we don't need some reward for our time spent on the bloodweb and that's a hill i'm willing to die on.

It's not about bragging and like I stated, you could essentially reward Bloodpoints which would help newer players the most with over 200 perks to level up.

Except that's exactly what prestige is, just bragging rights, just like all other prestige systems in video games.

Reaching some prestige level is not some impressive feed, it's just time consuming at best, as well as not even being required to do.

You wanna help new players obtain perks easier? Then overhauling the Shrine of Secret is a better solution for it.

  • I genuinely do not care about prestige rewards, i don't need some reward for what is essentially just bragging rights for doing something that everyone is going to end up accomplishing eventually.
