I would agree that yes, perhaps it has branched out, but in doing that they have kind of backtracked on what made the game popular in the first place. I would argue it's less horror now, and more Fortnite. I'm kind of over "horror isn't supposed to be scary. Think of all the monsters walking around in day-to-day life" and BHVR already did a good job portraying characters like this, while changing them to look like they fit the aesthetic in the realm. I think of Herman Carter, Danny Johnson, some innocent characters driven to immoral actions. I would argue a lot of "bubble gum horror" doesn't fit in alongside Chucky, Myers, Hag, and Spirit. Characters like Trickster and SM are skirting the line of thriller and action. At this point, Harley Quinn might as well be a horror character.
I wouldn't compare any of these characters to SM or Trickster. Legion, some of their cosmetics do them no favours but their defaults are fine. Huntress is this isolated homicidal woman who wears an eerie bunny mask, that's the type of thing I think bubble gum horror should mean. Slinger and Chucky are both creepy af. None of these characters look like Hag, Twins, or Doctor, but they work and some are horror icons.

Compared to all the other things that made dbd popular, the aesthetic probably the aspect that has affected the game's popularity the least.
Just because it's branched out, does not mean it's less horror now, if anything it's still just as much horror as it was before, it's just not one type of horror like it used to be.
Also it's been labeled by people and the devs themselves as titles such as (Fortnite for horror, The Smash Bros of Horror & The Hall of Fame of Horror) Last one by the devs themselves, the reason they call it that is exactly because it has branched into other types of horror, including the niche and unconventional ones that Trickster & SM is part of. You not thinking such things counts as horror does not change that it is still seen as being part of the horror genre.

Horror is universal, scary is subjective.
Again, just because you don't find some parts of the horror genre scary does not mean it isn't horror, since other people might find it more scary than what parts of horror you consider to be scary. I'd advice you not to play gatekeeper on what is or isn't horror, it is gonna make you look like a snobby elitist who thinks that the only parts of the horror genre he thinks of as being horror is the only correct one.
The fitting the realm argument doesn't work because again, this isn't old dbd, the realms isn't dark and grim and Slasher horror isn't the only type of horror in this game anymore
Also funny how you focus on lore or personality for characters like The Doctor & Ghostface, yet when it comes to Trickster it's just a surface level reason of ''hurr durr killer bad because k-pop and bright aesthetic''
Lastly there is nothing innocent over Doctor or Ghostface, Danny killed his dad in a fit of rage and decided to keep killing for fame in secrecy. Doctor downright believes himself superior to his peers, thinks morality is for the weak minded and will torture others to his heart's content. Claiming that Trickster (Who probably have just as much of an evil lore as those two) is less of a killer because he doesn't dress all dark and spooky like ghostface or has damaged skin with electricity running through his body like Doctor comes off as a really superficial reason.
I would argue a lot of "bubble gum horror" doesn't fit in alongside Chucky, Myers, Hag, and Spirit. Characters like Trickster and SM are skirting the line of thriller and action. At this point, Harley Quinn might as well be a horror character.
Harley Quinn & Trickster differs from each other in character, something that is more important than their visuals.
Also alot of Batman villains have some horror elements over them visually without being horror characters, that however still doesn't compare to Trickster because he is written as a horror character while Batman villains are not.
Again, if you're gonna judge characters, at least do it fairly across the board, otherwise i can just do the exact same thing you do, here just watch.
Huntress is just a big woman in a mask, Deathslinger is literally just a cowboy & Chucky is just a soul in a doll. None of them are even remotely scary.
Meanwhile you have Trickster, someone who is just as much of an evil person as Doctor & Ghostface are and is the person you least expect to take an average person to an abandoned warehouse, tie them down and torture you fpr hours before killing you off to further his work, he still fits the bill as being a cold blooded serial killer and is the closest to a real life one we have.
See? It's not that hard to do.
-
Just because you're biased towards conventional horror, does not change the fact that it is not the only valid type of horror and DBD is no longer that kind of horror only, the game not being coventional horror only anymore does not make it less horror just because you don't like it.

For years this has been said on all forums, but no proof was ever given. Maybe it's just BHVR not wanting to allocate dev time to existing killer ?
Because when it comes to things like cosmetics, custom music or voicelines, Warner Bros has the final say and bhvr has already told us that they cannot bring any of this because they're not allowed to by the license holder.
Things like visual or text updating also requires approval from license holder, but that's something they seem fine with.
Powerwise, bhvr has full control to change it, but they have said they inform the license holders on what they're doing.
-
I'd sacrifice the inclusion of Jason & Pennywise combined if it means The Tall Man's inclusion into the game.
Same way i'd trade Demogorgon's existence in this game for the inclusion of Pumpkinhead.
-
Not gonna happen, Warner Bros ain't having it.

In another genre I'd agree, but not for horror. More human killers like Legion and even Plague are fair enough, but SM and Trickster IMO don't work.
It does work, because this game has evolved past it's grim dark aesthetic and slasher + supernatural horror direction a long time ago, it has branched out into other horror types and niches, it's now more of an amalgamation of all types of horror to exist in the same space, such as the Bubblegum horror niche Trickster is part of.
Horror in of itself is incredibly diversed and comes in all shapes and forms, including hot conventional horror villains or even mediocre everyday normal looking humans.
Also if we only judge by appearance, then Legion, Deathslinger, Chucky, Wesker & Huntress doesn't work either.
This isn't old dbd anymore, and the game isn't restricted to conventional horror.
-
I think a tv series similar to dexter but with ghostface instead would work better.

Finally something we can agree on, and that is Wesker not being fun to go against.
I thought you stopped playing the game.
-
In terms of playing as, it's this for me.
In terms of playing against, then it's this for me.
-
///
-
Fun is subjective and this perk is definitely the most fun perk in the entire game.
It is permanently part of all my builds.
-
Trickster fits dbd way more than SM does in every single way and even then i wouldn't say she doesn't fit dbd.
Also there's nothing wrong with having human/conventional looking killers or even hot looking human killers, not every killer needs to be a masked axed wielding murder or some monsterous abomination, best thing to have is variety and there's room for it all.

Na. I don't think anybody is really expecting it. Game base is never big enough to allow for extra game modes. I wouldn't want them to add anything that effects que times.
Except they have already more than once confirmed to be working on extra game modes.

Bhvr owns the copyright for the spin-off game, the same way Sony owns Until Dawn and 2K owns The Quarry.
So yes, legally there's nothing stopping them from adding it to the main game.
-
Whatever change they do to billy, i hope it keeps his pickrate the same as it is now, so i will continue to not having to play against him except once in a blue moon.
-
Still an incredibly flawed & awful idea.
There are better ways to deal with matchmaking.

Better be either an original killer or Trapper.

I rather have shards for prime reward than cosmetics, maybe even a combination of shards and bps.
Just no cosmetics.

Didn't we have one as a concept way back in the day but it got canned because the survivors had to be scared and more average? They should bring her back as a survivor.
Elodie was teased as a detective who got taken while investigating a cult in the archive way back before she was added to the game, never heard of any other detective from back in the day.

As an Old Freddy main, I can definitely tell you it was not the only working strategy. There is also the matter that no one is asking for him to return exactly as he was. Old Freddy was and still is my favorite thing about DBD, but he was in need of QoL changes for a long time.
QoL changes which are included in my proposal, btw :)
Also, the built-in slowdown will not be an issue. Numbers can be changed individually, and even if they aren't, the bulk of the slowdown will depend upon on staying asleep, which is something you definitely don't wanna do when facing Freddy, period.

Slugging and stalling matches with his slowdown was the strategy most freddy players used because it was the most effective, i know because i too have played as and against all versions of freddy throughout dbd's lifespan.
Either that or his power gets rendered irrelevant half the time because Survivors failing skill check during dream transition and or just walking to a pallet before dream transition ends everytime as their safety net.
Also let's not forget how on high level play, Freddy would absolutely get demolished 90% of the time, and way easier than most other killers.
If we went by your proposal, you'd bring back all the elements from old freddy that alot of people hated and complained about back then with only some adjustment to it while only keeping dream projection from his current kit, all of which i not only believe is a terrible idea, but i absolutely abhorre the very thought of having any semblance of his first iteration in the game again, sorry but no, it ain't it chief.
Freddy needs QOL to his current power, what he doesn't need is to be reverted back to his old kit with adjustments.
Also, the built-in slowdown will not be an issue. Numbers can be changed individually, and even if they aren't, the bulk of the slowdown will depend upon on staying asleep, which is something you definitely don't wanna do when facing Freddy, period.
The slowdown was very much an issue, being forced to fail a skill check in order to wake up if all survivors was asleep is not only bad counterplay, but felt bad to do as a survivor.
Average Freddy match was him putting Survivors to sleep, chase them off gens and kick a few pallets, then find another Survivor to put to sleep before returning to the previous Survivor the moment one of them wakes up, rinse & repeat. Now combined that with all the slowdown perks we currently have in the game, Freddy is legit going to become Forever Freddy 2.0
No amount of rose colored glass talk is gonna change the overall disdain i have towards old freddy or just about every aspect of old dbd in general throughout the 8 years that i've played this game, i firmly believe there is nothing worth saving about old freddy and if he's ever brought back, he will be the only killer i will refuse to play against. He's also most likely gonna be complained about just as much as he was in the past before he got reworked.

I'll have to take your words for it. I can't really imagine how exactly Freddy was played but that might also have something to do with how different the game was back then.
I do think however that his original design was way more interesting than today's. So, I'd be happy to see BHVR rework Freddy to be similar to that old design with some tweaks to adjust him to today's standards.
Freddy was awful to play as and a joke to play against back then, period. Only working strategy for freddy was stalling the game out until he won. Bringing back his old design would not only be worse than what we already have, but we'd be sitting with a killer who not only has inbuild slowdown, but who is now gonna drag games out even more than previously with the amount of slowdown perks in the game.
But hey, if people wanna add forever freddy 2.0 into the game and have another killer who can prolong matches for an unnecessary amount of time, then by all means, go right ahead.

-
Myers
- Boyfriend's Memo added to basekit
- Rework half of the addons to actually be worth taking.
- Change the requirement of Tombstone Piece & Judith's Tombstone, but keep their function the same.
- Visual overhaul Myers' model.
- Decrease Myer's height to be accurate to how tall he is in the movie.
- Remove the stalk limit from Survivors.
- Bring back the removed stalk stinger when stalking a Survivor, but keep it audible for Myers only.
- Make Myers able to go back into Tier 1 for a limited to before reverting back into Tier 2.
- Make Myers stalk Survivors at the same regardless of how far away they are from him.
- Make J. Myers Memorial added to basekit.
I would also say remove the menu jingle and add some actual custom menu music, but that's probably not gonna happen.
-
Freddy
- QOL number adjustment for both the power and addons, reworking some of them too.
- Patrial power rework that is closer to his power in the movie without going back to old freddy's kit.
- Visual overhaul Freddy's model.
I would also say add custom menu and chase music along with Robert Englund Freddy skin with lines, but that's obviously never gonna happen.

Tools of Torment (7/10)

Well, it is something I had to point out. I do remember you saying the Forums were awful and you were only here for updates, or something along those lines.
And hey, at least I'm not here to ruin moments, eh? I mean, what is the point of interacting with something you clearly don't like?
I'm sharing an opinion here, six others agree. You don't. And you leave a "Not really".
Unnecessary and provocative, don't you think?
And hey, at least I'm not here to ruin moments, eh? I mean, what is the point of interacting with something you clearly don't like?
What's the point of a public forum if you're not allowed to interact or express your opinion with things you don't like or agree with?

It doesn't matter how many likes your post have, it doesn't exclude it from the opinions of others.

Too bad Capcom doesn't want to license out their older titles unless it has a remake.

Yes, unfortunately so.

No.
Optional or not, i don't ever wanna see old dbd ever again regardless of how far back we go.

Fogged:
- Your vision at a certain distance is temporarily blocked off by fog.
- You're oblivious to the killer's terror radius for as long as they're outside the distance that's blocked off.
Basically, silent hill fog in dbd as a status effect, gameplay wise it would be similar to Dredge's Nightfall mechanic except with fog instead of pitch darkness.

Although whether they'll grant it to you or not is up to them.

That's the spam filter, sometimes discussions and comments gets caught in it if people start editing them after too long has passed since the initial post was created or if the post get edited too many times after being just posted, the mods will then have to approve your edit for it to return, which they usually do.
When you've posted on the forum for an undisclosed amount of time, the mods will allow you to edit your discussions and comments without them getting caught in the spam filter or you can ask them yourself to have the filter ignore your edits.

If the goal is to make a good movie, and not be too concerned with adapting the wider lore of Dead By Daylight in general, I'd say adapting All-Kill would be the best bet.
Psychological thriller about Trickster's descent into serial-killing fervour, contrasted with Yun-Jin's slowly building suspicions and guilt over not wanting to rock the boat before she has any concrete proof, that kind of thing. I think it'd make for a good movie, though the ending would probably have to be changed if we don't want a bit of a cliffhanger. Imagine how that'd play to an audience who doesn't know what the Fog is, lol.
For adapting the wider mythos of DBD, I think the OG crew are kind of must-haves. That, or make a movie about the mysterious Lost Tapes characters referenced in the perk quotes...
Truthfully, I think the wider lore of DBD would work better as an anthology TV show rather than a movie. Gives more room for each facet to breathe.
DBD Ghostface TV series with a format akin to the series "Dexter"
Watch as people mistake it for being another Scream tv series, the same way people still mistakes Scary Movie with Scream.

Wasn’t privy to that, had to investigate… looks great!
Watched this vid the other day of someone who is conceptualizing on their own horror icon themed fighting game. Sth like this also would be appealing for DBD.
It looks like a combination between mortal kombat and both terrordrome games, honestly it's probably the closest dbd would get to as well if they did a fighting game, although the difference would be the realms as the stages instead and 60% of the fighter roster consisting of original killers.
Honestly, i think it's more likely that Trapper or some other killer appear in another fighting game as guest character than it is bhvr actually making their own fighting game, although seeing as they have other companies to work on spin-off games for them, i guess it could still be equally likely.

@ Xeno supporters, did you play a round on Hawkins against him? I am just curious, where did you place the turrets there? 95% of the map are a turret-no-no zone. Same goes for Larry's. If the map restricts the counterplay so heavily by offering me only bad poistions for the turrets then the counterplay is not a counterplay, as it is dependent on the map. My biggest problem with xeno is that you can't dodge his tail on flat loops unlike nemesis via crouching. The Tail shoots above you,he just does some camera-magic and you still get hit while not having an animation like nemesis. Really cool.
That's more of a map problem as it hasn't been updated since 2021, killers like Knight are even worse to play against on that map.
-
Hawkins is product of dbd from 2019, so it speaks for itself really.
