Nice team sabotage. You're definitely gonna get left on the hook by your team.

As if they don't already do that lmao

  • A Claire skin that actually looks like Claire. At least they fixed her zombie eyes I guess but are our standards really that low for a $15 cosmetic?

  • "High risk" when you can relight them infinitely?

Yeah... that's... not the only issue with these nerfs.

You know what Survivors can do ridiculously well when against Deathslinger?

    Hold Shift + W.

With a speed difference of only 0.4 m/s between Deathslinger and a running Survivor... If we ignore perks and add ons, the amount of time it takes Deathslinger to get within firing range of a Survivor who started running right when he heard the Terror Radius is currently 15 seconds. The nerf to Deathslinger's Terror Radius increases that to 35 seconds. That's nearly half a Gen. How the heck is he supposed to be viable when *at best* his first hit can take that long? Trick question, he won't be.

Basically the only way Slinger will be playable is if they hyper buff Marshal's Badge and Gold Creek Whiskey to offset this or you load his butt with several perks that grant Undetectable. Otherwise you'll take waaaaaaaaaay too long to get close enough to actually do anything.

Yep, initial chase distance is huge for both Slinger and Trickster.

There is nothing more "unfun" than helplessly holding W for 30+ seconds, kicking a pre-dropped pallet, and holding W some more. Where are all those survivors that were complaining about "counterplay" again?

  • Yea looks like same bug as before. I believe its been acknowledged...again.

At least Jill looks correct sometimes. I've been praying for a Claire fix to make her look like, you know, Claire, since she came out and all we've gotten so far is removing her zombie eyes.

  • @Chilli_man2400 said:

her addons are mixed they suck cause only the common and uncommon addons are good but Tampered timer, crate of gears and jigsaw sketch were straight up broken. Luckily Jigsaw sketch was nerfed it was just announced 1 down 2 to go

I don't think any of them are broken. If a Pig wants to tunnel you until your trap pops, it doesn't matter what add ons she has. If she doesn't, you'll most likely have enough time to reach all the boxes if you don't get greedy doing other objectives. I don't think we need more Pig nerfs. I already very rarely see her in my survivor games and it makes me sad.

  • Ok excuse me, Spirit needs to have her power trashed, but Nurse gets 3 blinks with no downside??

Edit: not sure if the blink recharge part means she gets charges back faster or slower. still think its ridiculous either way

There is nothing wrong with Jane.

As to the comment about skirts and looking more "feminine". Just... oof.

Yes I like playing attractive characters of both genders in games, as do a large portion of gamers (I hesitate to claim a majority without direct evidence, though I strongly suspect it). For the same reason actors, spokespeople, TV presenters, models, etc., tend to be attractive.

If I wanted to play an ugly character, I'd just go outside :)

I’d say most of them are very ugly. Ace, Dwight (post rework), Kate (borders okay), David, Zarina (due to aesthetic mismatch mostly), Jane, Meg, Claudette (not ugly but she’s aight), Adam, Jeff and Adam. I’m obviously only counting originals but beyond them everyone else is just a 6.5 or higher with IMO the prettiest original female survivor being probably Yun-Jin and the handsomest male survivor being Jake.

To be fair, some of them look much better in renders than in game. idk what happens when they get run through the ugly filter between renders and game.

  • Having played tons of survivor against Deathslinger, these changes will make him soooo easy to loop at standard tiles. A good Slinger looping at, say, a pallet gym, can often just barely quick scope me around a corner before I make it back to the pallet. These changes will give me all the time I need to get an extra loop or two and then drop pallet and move to next tile.

Slinger has zero map pressure and already struggled heavily. His only saving grace was his very strong 1v1. He is incredibly dependent on hitting his shots and ending chases ASAP.

These changes make him significantly more loopable and give him nothing to alleviate the lack of map pressure. In other words, you're nerfing a killer that was already not close to top tier.

On the flip side, it could pair worth Rule Set No 2 nicely.

Hmm do we know if Rule Set No 2 still exists after this? Or is it replacing Amaanda's Letter?

  • Kate got kinda ruined by the face reworks as well. I saw tons of negative feedback on it, but nothing was changed.

  • @Clevite said:

Does she lose traps in her inventory, if not, why wouldn't you run this?

Yea this is what I want to know on that iri one. Otherwise, survivors spend 1-2 mins searching boxes at the start of the trial and then you have no power the rest of the match? :/

  • As I said about the Spirit nerfs, the standard is no longer a killer being overpowered, just "unfun". For survivors, that is.

  • I like RPD. My favorite indoor map.

  • @anarchy753 said:

I think people are kidding themselves if they think even half of the people who main Spirit do so because they actually like Spirit. They main her because she's has the lowest skill requirement to get the highest results. They'll ditch her the second people can counterplay her and jump ship to the next strongest thing that isn't too difficult. Either they'll migrate to Blight, or something like Oni.

If people want the lowest skill requirement to get the highest results, they'll play survivor with 3 of their friends ;)

  • @Desh said:

Never played her but honestly, it seems they nerfed her base kit way too hard based on the limited information we have.

    If I recall, they're doing:

    1) Spirit kicks up dust when she phases

    2) Phasing is directional when in a certain distance of her Killer.

The first one doesn't require too much depth, apparently it's difficult to see the dust if she's in a grassy area or something. But what about indoor maps? Dead zones? Maps with little to no grass?

Then you got the directional phasing which they state is in a certain distance (forgot the range) of the killer. Is this the Killer's terror radius or the actual player when they're phasing?

Now pair these 2 nerfs together and it's like... what's the point of phasing anymore other than traversing the map as quickly as possible? I'm okay with one or the other, preferably the second nerf. But both at the same time without padding her or buffing her in some other aspect? They basically gutted her. The point of her phasing is to be invisible and travel quickly. If you're going to give me directional phasing sounds AND I get to see where her dust is at while she does it, I have all the information I need to easily loop her or get away from her because I know exactly where she's at.

Don't forget we haven't even seen how trash her add ons will be...

  • I probably just won't play killer in general after this wave of nerfs on top of the garbage new matchmaking.

I'll stick to the survivor power role for the time being until someday a worthy competitor to DBD arrives.

The new Trapper Sack will be great for basement Trapper since it won't really matter that much to pick up the bear traps (you can just walk through them and take the stun), not to mention you'll have all the bear traps you need to set it up without needing to go out of your way to find more bear traps.

Trapper sack plus iri stone? Set up 3 or 4 around shack, find an unlucky victim, and you're set. Easy game, easy life.

How long until the "nerf Trapper threads start popping up? I can already see it. "There's no counterplay. It's just a coin flip guessing game if he has a trap placed at every loop or not." 😆

Idk if you have ever played Spirit. But she’s not so easy to master like people are making it seem.

Played against 3 Spirits today. I'm medium-high MMR. They got a combined 0 kills. 2nd game she got 1 hook. 3rd game we had 3 gens for 1 hook and she DC'd. Clearly OP zero effort killer.

She takes "no skill" but when she gets wrecked by good survivors, its because the Spirit player was bad, right? I think that's how the logic of the complainers goes anyways.

  • @ReikoMori said:

I can kind of see where their coming from with the lost of identity. When she had directional phasing it before it took the Onryo jumpscare quality out of her character design quite a bit. Thematically, she just wasn't particularly scaring because you knew where she was in relation to you ahead of time.

Honestly, Spirit is losing a considerable amount of thematic character and practical gameplay advantage, but it is hard to see what she's getting to offset these changes in basekit. That's the reason a lot of killer players do not trust the devs is because changes to the basic power set of a killer are extremely impactful, but in most cases it just flattens out the amount of difficulty killers can impose on the game. Beneficial changes for killer usually happen in addons which means if it is actually good for them to have then you have to live with it being limited. When killers get flattened out to be more addon reliant that power reliant it makes playing killer that much more stressful.

Not everyone plays the game a ton and hoards addons, it also makes learning new killers more painful that it already is because you're not going to have addons and have to deal with rng nature of the bloodweb. Do I think Spirit should be able to just sorta stand there? No, things should be a bit more involved, but I wouldn't have given both dust and directional phasing sound. Why not make it clear via her husk that's she's phasing? That is what the issue has been, people couldn't tell she was phasing when near the husk. So why not have the husk raise its arms or glow? People would still need to make a guess on the direction, but wouldn't have to guess if she's phasing or not.

Yep, all she needed was a tell that she was phasing. And instead we get hand-holding chase tells for survivors, completely destroy her stealth potential for switching targets/grabs, and most likely trash her add ons.

Played against 2 Spirits in a row this morning. 0 kills, 2nd game she got 1 hook. Clearly OP right?

If you get destroyed by a Spirit she "requires no skill, has no counterplay, etc". But if she gets 1 hook and everyone escapes, she was "just a bad Spirit player". Soooo which is it? Does she require skill or not??

This has got to be the most cringe worthy thing I've read today. "Oh I hate facing them. So I hope they get nerfed"

When blight is pretty damn fair

It's just applying the same logic people used to get other killers gutted.

The standard isnt something being overpowered, or survivors would be getting nerfs to not steamroll most of the killer roster at high level.

If something being subjectively "unfun" to play against is enough for a nerf, then I can't wait for Blight to get nerfed next. As personally I hate playing against him and think he's the most unfun killer in the game.

  • @MarcoPoloYolo said:

    1. For Blight, It's on you to miss if a survivor is out in the open.
    2. Blight is significantly faster.
    3. Blight isn't blind.
    4. Blight has a shorter cooldown.
    5. Blight can be played as an M1 killer.

    Don't forget:

    1. Several broken add ons (Alchemist's Ring, speed add ons, Compound 33)
    2. Ability to break pallets faster basekit
    3. A stupidly oversized hitbox with his power while Spirit has the normal lunge hitbox
    4. 115% base speed

I think the Nurse and Spirit nerfs were totally fair, Billy's nerf was bs though and most of the community agreed that Blight is one of the most balanced killers in the game, so if Blight gets nerfed then...

that's not how this works. we've now decided to nerf killers because they're "unfun". I hate playing against Blight more than any other killer, with his inconsistent, broken mechanics, oppressive perk synergies, and several problematic add ons. Very unfun and lacking "counterplay". Can't wait for him to join my Spirit next to Billy in the killer graveyard!

  • @Xayrlen said:

    Cry us a river.

She was put to place for a reason, because there are no mind games in rng, only luck. But now these spirit mains will have to earn the kill and actually show skill.

What is the mind game at a LT wall with a M1 killer? It's a 50/50 guess if the killer will double back or not, based on reading them in previous chases.

Shocker, many "mindgames" in this game are coin flips on predicting what the opponent will do. Spirit was no different in that regard, but good luck. You can move on to whining about the next killer that outplays you.

  • @Pulsar said:

This nerf is entirely designed to kill her high-level gameplay.

Her normal gameplay against casual players is unlikely to change, since most players aren't going to look for dust or listen to the directional phasing.

However, high-level players will pay attention and they will hear the phasing.

Maybe the devs are nerfing her to alleviate your 40 minute Blight queue times? /s

Seriously though, she's dead for high mmr with this. The sound bug she had a few months ago where you could hear her phasing was less consistent and she was still incredibly easy to loop by just hugging a window/pallet and waiting for the audio queue that she was phasing around the loop. Now it sounds like she'll give constant audio feedback AND visual feedback to survivors. Very skillful!

This also eliminates what imo is her most fun playstyle to play and vs; switching targets within terror radius and going for grabs on gens. That playstyle is absolutely gone now. She's just a bad 1v1 killer with 110% movement speed. I guess Trickster will have some company in that department.

"Counterplay" for survivors, means "consistent counterplay", meaning the killer has no counterplay and can only hope survivors mess up.

  • @pseudechis said:

The only thing overperforming with respect to spirit was cry baby sore loser-ism.

What made her great was how unpredictable should could be. Telegraphing her power will now just result in the same run around the same rock 6 times BS that every other killer has to deal with.

    Bummer.

I hope they don't crush her to much.

Yep, another 110% speed killer with a worthless, easily-countered power. Survivors don't want "counterplay". They want reliable counterplay, meaning the killer has no counterplay.

But hey, as long as the survivors can hump pallets for a few mins and get that ePiC eScApe before spending more money on cosmetics, right?

  • @humanbeing1704 said:

The reaction to the announcement of those changes seems childish maybe try em out in actual gameplay

Not as childish as the vindictive people trolling anyone who enjoys playing a killer they don't like.

And its not hard to predict the outcome of the nerfs. We already had a bug that was close to this and she became easily predictable and countered by humping a pallet or window and listening. Now we'll have more reliable constant audio queues plus visual queues and garbage add ons. Not hard to come to a reasonable prediction of how this will turn out.

  • I was just putting time into learning several killers but matchmaking, the massive Spirit nerf, and the TBA add on changes to several killers have me halfway out the door

  • Just a 110% speed killer with a useless power. Oh are we talking about spirit or trickster?

  • Sooo basically all of Freddy's and Pyramid Head's add ons?

blight main who wanted spirit nerfed reporting in :) why should your killer get you better results with less effort?

"Effort" is subjective. But its ok. I'll be here dancing when Alchemist's Ring, Crow, and Compound 33 are deleted, his hitbox gets shrunk, and he gets Adrenaline Vial basekit "to add more skill into playing as and against Blight".

  • @Nathan13 said:

I predict Blight. I see more complaints about him than Nurse and Nurse has been out far longer.

And I personally hate playing against Blight so great. Any Blight mains that want Spirit nerfed into the ground can enjoy it when it's their turn.

  • I think they should:

    1. Make Iron Will survivors still breath when injured.
    2. Put Iron Will on a timer of 30-60 seconds of complete silence, after which injured sounds slowly return to normal volume over another 30 seconds or so. And have it reset when healed. This gives some incentive to not stay injured the entire game and some downside to the perk while still retaining its use in chase.

Maybe the breathing bug fix would be enough. I think one or the other change would be healthy.

The devs are overcompensating when only a few changes were needed.

Instead of just adding one indication of when she’s phasing, they did THREE TOTAL:

    1) Audio - stand still is gone, which was a needed change anyway

    2) Directional Audio (yes, this counts as its own buff)

    3) Visual - dust kicking up

This also kills her most fun playstyle imo, which was switching targets within terror radius and going for grabs.

Unless you're missing a button you can always break a problematic pallet, every killer has to do that from time to time, believe it or not

Windows? Yeah, sure windows will be a bit stronger against Spirit, it doesn't mean she's going to be useless

At least survivors still need to pay attention to sounds before knowing when to vault a window, what are Spirits doing right now to trick survivors? Ah right, staying still without pressing any button. "SKILL"

So you're going to use the stand still tech, which most players agreed needed to go, to justify making her power entirely counterable by survivors camping a pallet or window.

It's not like they could give her a tell that she's phasing without telling survivors exactly where she is at all times?

Just break the pallet, just chase around the windows. So she's now every M1 killer in the game that can't do ######### against survivors that know how to loop. Some power that is.

  • @Lycidas said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2514196#Comment_2514196

PTB Spirit was considered bad and these changes put her worse than she was in the PTB. She's gone from high tier viability.

Maybe, MAYBE she was considered bad because people weren't able to use her properly yet?

Before this change the Spirit was the only one who had info during a chase: survivors had no idea of where she was or what was she doing, while Spirit could both hear survivors and see their scratch marks

All this change does is balance the information a little bit: Spirit will still know the exact same things she knows now, and survivors are able to tell what she's doing and maybe tell where she is (we don't know how easily still)

I think everyone is forgetting that she moves at ######### 176% with no addons while phasing, and she keeps that speed after coming out of phasing

FFS, Wraith has no problem getting a hit when unloacking and he has to ring a bell before doing it, you really think Spirit would have any problem?

Wraith has no cooldown on his power, is 115% movement speed, and can SEE survivors the entire time. And he's still not viable vs top tier survivors.

Just camp a pallet or decent window now and Spirit is useless. "SKILL"

  • @GannTM said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2514301#Comment_2514301

Yeah but they’ll still have plenty of time to react to it.

    Very skill.

I doubt it. There will be a bit more skill but it’s mostly learning to use foliage to hide the footsteps and her not being S tier is cool with me since A-B tier is the ideal balancing point imo

S tier killers are the only ones able to have a chance vs the best survivors.

So you're basically saying good survivor teams should never lose?

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

This actually adds some Skill and Decision-making to Spirit gameplay - you have to decide if you go the straight forward way and risk being seen or you take a little detour through grass so that the Survivor does not get the Footstep Indicator.

And as survivor you can just camp a pallet or window, wait for the obvious tells that she's phasing around, and vault when she gets close. "SKILL!"

This is exactly what happened when she was bugged a few months ago.

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2514104#Comment_2514104

I went through the patch notes. I don't have exactly how she was on PTB but I know that she was changed from PTB to live- her TR shrunk to 24m from 32m, for example (2.2.0).

2.2.1 reduced recharge time from 20 seconds to 15.

2.3.0 gave us the superbuff- audio is no longer directional, cannot be heard within the terror radius, while phasing her breathing cannot be heard, and her footsteps were quietened.

2.3.3 gave us the stand still mindgame- the transition animation (animation reset) become much smoother.

3.4.0 gave us the first of the nerfs- she got a vaulting animation, removed collision, and her add-ons were tweaked. But it also made her speed curve like Wraith's, which was nice.

And... That was it, up until now. It's literally her 2nd ever nerf after a buff from PTB to live, a buff in the hotfix, and a third buff in 2.3.0 as well as a fourth in 2.3.3.

    My source:

    https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Rin_Yamaoka

Fair enough, most of these changes happened before I started playing.

Doesn't change how they completely killed the playstyle I most enjoyed using and playing against. Now she's just another 1v1 chasing killer that can be countered by any strong window or downed pallet.

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2514029#Comment_2514029

Is this not her 2nd nerf? There was one at the same time or close to Nurse's nerf, and then this one, after being buffed (ptb to live), buffed (first hotfix), then superbuffed (second)? Did I forget an update?

Only including direct spirit nerfs- bugs and perk changes are not being counted.

I didn't play back then so I don't know every change, but the nerfs I'm aware of are:

    1. Vaulting animation instead of phasing through windows
    2. No collision with survivors while phasing
    3. Directional audio queues during phase
    4. Dust clouds during phase

This is before we see how many of her add ons are now nerfed into the ground.

The fun of playing Spirit for me was switching targets within terror radius and going for gen grabs, being unpredictable (not the stand still tech). Now that's a completely dead playstyle with these changes.

Like someone said earlier, might as well just play Blight or Wraith if you want to be a fast chasing killer. The mindgaming part of her power is dead.

Please go ahead and cite me with the hypocrisy. Or is it just a strawman?

Either way we know this nerfs will make her bad because when Spirit was on PTB had a bug that let survivors know her location by sound and she was very bad. Now this bug will be a feature plus 2 other nerfs.

I didn't play when she was originally released but wasn't she also faster and had collision with survivors while phasing?

So this is like 4 or 5 nerfs from her PTB.

  • I was already a survivor main, but with the announced gutting of Spirit, I'll be done with killer entirely.

MMR hasn't exactly been fun as survivor either. Honestly burning out on DBD with all the horrible changes over the past year.

  • @GrimoireWeiss said:

Let's at least wait for PTB? Spirit had a bug sometime ago where she had directional phase. It barely affected how strong she was, and she was way more fun to play against as well.

    "barely affected"?

I could literally just sit at any long window or downed pallet and know exactly when to vault by just listening. It made her way weaker and put her power entirely in the hands of survivors. "Fun!"

1 … 33 34 35 36 37 … 41
