Then make it harder to Rank up.

There's no reason to make high-skill players lives hell without balancing the game.

The devs know the game is unbalanced at high skill levels. They've known for years and haven't done anything about it.

Given that, I have no reason to believe they'll suddenly start balancing things after MMR goes live. MMR will cause many higher skill players to just burn out and quit.

I played mostly survivor during the test and games were awful, genrush sweatfests vs mostly Blight and Nurse running Ruin, Undying, Tinkerer.

If you dont mind me asking which rank are you?

Because it's the complete opposite for me. I dont mind going against nurse and spirit and blight if I have a good team

3 since we just reset. Usually 1-2 on both sides.

  • Much better playing solo queue today. Games are lasting longer than 4 minutes and I'm getting killers other than Blight and Nurse

  • Most mmr matches have been very sweaty for me too. I hate it on either side. Matches are over in record time. If the killer wins, it's usually because their Ruin totem stayed up and they tunneled someone quickly. Survivors are glued to gens constantly.

Can't wait for this test to end. Hoping they just scrap this system. It's been 2 years and it's still terrible.

  • Most higher level survivors don't care about being injured with IW, Resilience, Dead Hard, etc.

It's far more efficient to repair faster, be nearly impossible to track, and have DH as your renewable 2nd health state, than spend time healing. This makes it extremely difficult for most killers to pressure survivors off gens.

My rework would be to make IW work as it does now for 30-45 seconds, and then the injured noises slowly return to normal volume over another 15-30 seconds. The perk resets when fully healed. This would give the perk some small downside and discourage staying injured for the entire match.

  • Fix Claire's model and the chapter would be pretty good. There are still massive performance issues as well.

  • I died to this situation today. Saved a default nancy from basement and bolted for hatch while the killer took the BT bait and chased her to the exit gate.

She decided to stay in the exit hall mending while the killer came back to hatch and killed me.

And this is why I don't go back for default nancy anymore.

Realized that most people want MMR? Yes, they did.

Real talk: How much different do you think MMR is going to be from the current system? It's an expansion of the current system, if anything. It takes more metrics into account, but instead of working off a pip/depip system that we already knows is heavily flawed and can be exploited, it instead gives you a number that's more or less equivalent to what can be called "skill", then matches you with people of similar "skill".

Oh, you asked everyone if they wanted it? The forum polls here are pretty evenly split, so I wouldn't say definitively either way.

  • The game has too many RNG and balance issues to have competitive matchmaking system.

The game isn't designed to be a competitive esport and SHOULD NOT try to be. Tournament DBD is a terrible goal for matchmaking and makes games boring as hell on both sides. Similar games (Evolve) failed in part due to the mentality of forcing comp play in this genre.

People that are against the SBMMR can be boiled down to 3 different types:

    • Streamers
    • 4 man SWF death squads
    • derankers

All 3 have the same thing in common. They fear that they can´t stomp easier targets anymore. Since the first 2 would be constantly matched against each other, which would be a sweatfest (for them).

Everyone else will just benefit from the new system.

I'm none of those things and against mmr

  • I'm starting to think the RNG built into the "flaws" in the emblem system actually keep the game interesting. If every match feels like this test, I can't play nearly as much. It's just not enjoyable.

  • Almost every survivor match is a sweatlord Blight main with multiple slowdown perks and speed/alchemist's ring add ons. If we get an indoor map and decent teammates, we might get a 2 escape.

Matches that aren't Blight/Nurse result in gens being done by the time the killer gets 3 hooks, someone gets face camped/tunneled, and the rest escape.

Matches last 4-5 minutes. No fun. No Memes. No mercy hatch. Just sweat. The burnout is real.

  • So BHVR saw all 20 people that actually take tournament DBD seriously and thought "what if we made every match feel like that?".

Survivor games have been miserable, 4 slowdown perks. Facecamp and tunnel one survivor. If I'm blessed with good teammates, they hold M1 and 2 of them escape. Game lasts 4-5 minutes. No one gets points. No memes. No mercy hatch. Nothing but sweat and boredom. The burnout is real.

No. Old mechanic literally hurt some people and ruined keyboards. It was terrible. Suck it up if you load into a game that you are losing instead of asking for a quick way to babyquit.

I don't understand why you would expect someone who wants to leave a match to suddenly change their mind because a teammate unhooked them before they could finish kermitting. They'll just go afk and wait to be hooked again, or worse, actively do things to throw the match or sandbag the other survivors. Better to just let them leave.

I'm fine with the current system but a quicker way to give up on 2nd phase would be nice in some cases.

Bruh every update they're making her worse and worse, they still haven't done ######### to her "Beach Eyes" hair, oh no, now its actually BRIGHTER if you've noticed. They still haven't fixed her face animations while in a match. And i don't get why her "Caribou Beanie Hat" has the blonde hair instead of the original head piece. Poor Kate.

Right, why did they change the things no one complained about??

Players: "We hate Kate's face rework, please fix it"

Devs: "Let's make this hair look worse"...?

  • image.png

This is how it looked on PTB

  • Nothing in today's patch notes about addressing any of the feedback on the character reworks. Guess we can hope for some fixes with the PTB...

  • Nothing in the patch notes today about fixing any of the character faces. Guess we can hope some of them will be fixed in the PTB next week, but I doubt it. I haven't seen a single dev or mod response to all the feedback on Kate or any of the other survivor reworks.

  • Matches like this are caused by long queue times for either side. This probably won't change with MMR, as the devs program the server to prioritize getting you into a match over making you wait longer for a more balanced match.

  • Maybe we'll get some fixes in the patch tomorrow. There was a lot of critical feedback for some of the updated models. Especially Kate, but I saw a fair amount of complaints about Feng, Nancy, Ace, David, and Dwight as well.

I'm more pessimistic toward the devs lately so I expect they'll just sweep any complaints under the rug like they have about everything else they've done in the last year or so. On to the next DLC and all..

  • I think a lot of people complaining about current matchmaking are conflating two issues: the emblem system, and how DBD prioritizes matchmaking when queues get too long.

When queue times are good for both sides, I rarely see players outside red /purple ranks on either side in matches. I definitely see some bad teammates/killers in red ranks, but for the most part, I get decent matches. It's only in the evenings when survivor queues break past 5 minutes that I start seeing rainbow ranks and wacky matches.

This isn't the fault of the ranking system. This is BHVR deciding that it's better to throw you into an unbalanced match rather than make you wait longer. I highly doubt this will change in a new MMR. As queue times increase, the server will broaden the range of acceptable MMR ratings in an effort to minimize queue times.

  • I'm amazed after the last years of balance decisions, performance issues, chat filter, and buggy patches, players have faith in the devs implementing a new feature without telling us how it works, what it measures, or the ratings of players after matches.

    "When will you learn!"

If you can't tell if you or your teammates/opponent are playing well simply from the experience of playing that game, then how are you able to judge the matchmaking either way? Are you just letting your rank tell you how good of a player you are?

Two things can be true at once.

From every test I've participated in so far:

    1. The games have been horribly unbalanced.

    2. The ranks have been all over the place.

You can absolutely tell the difference between rank 1 and rank 15-20 survivors 95% of the time. Either way, the ranks should be visible as a way to say "wow, I wouldn't have expected such a good match with these green rank teammates. great job MMR!", or, more likely in my experience, "oh, that's why no one saved me on first hook when I had kindred and the killer wasn't camping".

Name any competitive game with MMR that has these factors. RNG and Unbalanced Maps and Perks I will await your response of you finding a game with MMR that has these factors and it must be a popular competitive game. That's how i know.

Don't forget simple things like if the survivors spawn spread out or together, if someone spawns on top of a lit totem, etc. Even something as simple as the coin flip of the killer picking the correct corner of the map to start a chase at the beginning or not.

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2414573#Comment_2414573

The whole point of MMR is to be hidden so players can't work out the system and smurf.

So there's no way to know if you're "playing well", or to know if the system is working, other than trust the same devs that can't making a ####### chat filter. And your only reward for "improving" is progressively sweatier opponents? Sounds like a great incentive structure..

  • I think a much simpler fix would be to make pipping as survivor a bit harder, and drop everyone 10 ranks instead of 1 color at reset. Red ranks get jammed with survivors of all skill levels because its too easy to rank up and reset barely does anything.

  • @Mandy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2414480#Comment_2414480

The amount of people who say after each test "the ranks are all over the place" is exactly the reason why this change has been made. No other reason.

The Ranking system shows time put into the game, not skill so it's completely at odds to the SBMM and as such it makes sense to keep ranks hidden so we don't get the whole "I'm red rank but there's green ranks in my matches", as that feedback isn't helpful as it skews people's way of thinking and as we're looking for constructive feedback on the matchmaking it makes more sense to get the feedback without people having preconceived ideas about how their skill was judged/calculated.

Then show the MMR ratings in the end game

  • I still prefer the old HUD or the old HUD with some of the new elements added on. The layout is still worse, especially the vertical survivor portraits and upper right corner score events. But, like others said, devs don't care.

The hair looks absolutely terrible, but what I have the most trouble adjusting to is her new teeth/mouth. She looks like a rabbit.

it's her pissed off expression that gets me. why did they have to change her little optimistic smile when most of the other survivors animations look at least close to their original personality?

  • Ok, that looks...blocky? It looks like they weren't finished with whatever they were doing lol

  • i would need a better before/after to tell what changed with that one. I'm not a fan of the changes to the Star Seeker and Golden Cascade heads. if any of them needed a remodel it was her basic ponytails, but they didn't change much with those.

Still hoping they fix her face too...

  • I love Claire but hope the devs will make her face look more like the RE2 remake

  • Ormond is in the middle in terms of map size. Nowhere close to Mothers Dwelling and Shelter Woods.

  • Imagine if survivors had their vaults rolled back vs Doctor's shock if the server validation decided they were shocked before vaulting xD

  • I think resetting 2 colors instead of 1 would be a good balance. Or just a flat 10 ranks

  • I'm assuming you meant Resurgance, not Resilience. The heal appears to take 8 seconds. Should have been a little faster with Leader right?

Did the killer have Sloppy or Mangled add ons?

  • I'm still hoping they eventually bring back the blood overlays on all skins as you are injured throughout the match. They tested it in a PTB a year or so ago but I haven't seen any mention of it since.

Kind of weird to do all these graphic updates in the name of realism but ignore the survivor in pretty bright clothes still looking pristine after being stabbed and hooked twice multiple times.

  • Even for killers it hurts when survivors can see you coming from half the map away. It just encourages the hold W snoozefest chases. Also, as survivor, there's no tension to repairing gens when I can see for miles in every direction.

This is a fantastic point. It's not even just that I find her face really offputting to look at, it's that she doesn't look like Kate anymore. Kate is supposed to look softer and more conventionally beautiful. She's literally an international celebrity. Of all the characters to make look harder and gritty that is not the one.

Like you said those descriptions are charitable at best. I think 'rodent-like' and 'ugly' are more fitting, but beauty is subjective.

Thanks! I hope we'll get a fix next week with the patch. If they don't respond to all the feedback now, I feel like they'll just try and sweep everything under the rug and move onto the next DLC...

  • image.png image.png

One more thing I'm annoyed about. Why did they take away the lip liner on this head? It was a really unique cosmetic and now it just looks like a generic recolor of her default hair :/

  • I wouldn't mind more stealth if there were some interesting mechanics around it. Thinking of something like Until Dawn/Man of Medan where while hiding, you have some kind of quick time events that get progressively more difficult in order to stay quiet/hidden when the killer is close.

The angry face, they're supposed to add face motion. But they didnt.

Kate definitely needs a retouch. Maybe they have a lighting update in the works that will make the new models/textures look better? DBD's lighting on characters is pretty harsh. Either way, that angry expression needs to go.

  • Just bring STBFL, Spirit Fury, and Enduring, and pretend you're playing release version of Trickster c:

Hope they fix the Spirry bugs soon, I can't play my main right now.

  • Nice patch, buffed a meta survivor perk and pallet camping. And my survivor queues were just starting to be decent in the evenings.

Oh really? That's a relief lol...I thought it strange as she wasn't even on the block to BE changed.....and my god....her face right now...it COULDN'T have possibly passed by the devs with a thumbs up. Then again...look at OG Quentin and Nea. Hmmm

ANYWAY, that is good to hear!

still hoping they do another pass on Claire. At least they fixed her zombie eyes...

So the face has more definition and shading resulting in a look that is less cartoony idealistic and more mature realistic.

I'd say she went from comic character to gritty badass.

That's charitable. Looks more like evil stepmother to me. But lets say they changed her to gritty badass. That's a trait fitting several survivors (Bill, David, Nea, Yui), but not at all Kate. She was always, in backstory, lore, and appearance, a "hopeful songbird".

Whether we agree on the quality of the model and textures or not, that drastic change in personality makes Kate's rework a failure imo.

  • Anyone else think of the Tigger song from Winnie the Pooh while reading the title?
