  • To add more skill into The Spirit’s counterplay, we're giving survivors an arrow telling them exactly which way to run and letting you see her (dust clouds) while she can't see you or hear you (iron will).

    "Skill!"

The most fun I have playing Spirit is switching targets within terror radius and going for gen grabs. This change kills all of that soooo guess I'm sticking with playing survivor.

  • "add more skill into The Spirit’s counterplay" *gives survivors an audio arrow telling them exactly which way to run*

Bring it back oh yes. But make it go away when healed.

Why make it go away when healed? Are we all running around with tide bleach pens in our pockets when playing survivor? xD

  • @jajay119 said:

Probably not coming back as it would overlap with the prestige costumes. The blood spatters actually help camouflage survivors in certain environs so actually hinder the killer.

I don't think it's worth sacrificing a feature that should have been in the game from the start just to preserve a single set of cosmetics on each character. They could make it not apply to prestige cosmetics since they're already bloody, if it's even a problem.

The reworked prestige cosmetics that came with the survivor updates had less blood than before so they might be ok with a bit more being added throughout the match.

And most survivors already have cosmetics that are dark colored if they want to blend better. Adding some blood over my Oktoberfest Kate's bright orange dress isn't going to hide her very well. And the dark colored outfits won't be effected very much (red over black).

I really wish it would come back, its one of those random things they added that everybody liked but they removed for no reason. Really helps establish that feeling that the survivors are truly getting broken and battered throughout the trial, it helps communicate the struggle to survive and thats really cool.

Yea I was really excited for this too. Every dev update/PTB release since that one, I was expecting it would come back. Seems like such a no-brainer.

  • I like RPD. My favorite of the indoor maps.

  • I like the RPD map. Splitting it would make it another tiny indoor map like Hawkins. No thanks

  • Is it mmr making killer queues so long? It's weird having nearly instant survivor queues in the evenings lately. Although I haven't played nearly as much the last couple weeks. Matches are way less fun now.

  • Unpopular opinion: I prefer the wacky hard to complete challenges over "cleanse 25 totems", "repair 17 generators", etc.

  • My normal build is:

    1. WGLF

    2. Kindred

    3. Borrowed Time

    4. Your preferred exhaustion perk

Pretty good all around for solo queue

SBMM should be in cod and fortnite. All the arguments in these games against sbmm boil down to "i don't like versing myself" and the only satisfaction they get is stomping noobs while not giving a ######### about their experience.

Or maybe a major sense of progression in a repetitive pvp game is winning a higher percentage of your matches? That was the only benefit of improving in dbd in the old matchmaking.

There were no rank rewards. Red ranks were cluttered with a wide skill level after the devs switched to the one color reset, so being rank 1 didn't mean much either as far as a prestige thing. The only way the game indicated you were getting better was by winning more often.

Consider there may be valid criticisms to sbmm other than "noob stomping".

  • Looks weird when you're crouched and can only stare straight ahead

  • @CornHub said:

I disagree with people saying survivors are going to get it nerfed. Firstly, whens the last time genuinely bad survivors were catered to? With that in mind I think Franklin's should work with the lament box

    1. Original Ruin change

    2. Skill check perks not affecting things like snapping out of Doctor's madness

    3. Hook counters in the survivor UI (smart survivors already remembered hook stages)

    4. Freddy's nerfs

I'm sure there are others but these are the most blatant that came to mind.

  • I wondered if that change would break power struggle.

  • Legion injures survivors with little counterplay too. Guess he needs to nerf as well?

  • Terrible idea. Killers can't afford to waste time to deal with another objective, and they let survivors pick a dull totem to apply the boon to. so they can find a well-hidden totem instead of the classic next to the gen spawn my Devour usually gets.

  • @Kebek said:

Try losing more until you get opponents on level you want.

A system that incentivizes losing is a failed design.

  • Is it too much to ask for Claire to get a model touch up? Her face doesn't look like the RE2 remake and she has like size 20 shoes...

  • Don't forget the incoming survivor totem perks with the next midchapter. Because killers need another objective right?

  • Can we see player mmr after a match so we can see if the new system is working? -> "you don't need to see the numbers to know if it's working. You can tell by how the matches feel."

My matches don't feel fun. -> "you just want to bully bad players for easy 4ks/escapes, you sweaty sweatlord."

I live in europe so for me it was activated 6pm yesterday. So yes i did play on the new system.

Ok makes sense, thanks for clarifying.

  • @Hannacia said:

I had really good time yesterday leveling my Pinboy. I had first really easy matches that were relaxed and i had time to practise and slowly as i got better i got better survivors that gave me challenge.

If it had been the old system i wouldnt have had good time at all since i would have gotten loopers and 4 people with meta perks all the time. I'm really glad i can now practise killers i don't play without being scared i get dead harded and decisive striked all the time

sbmm wasn't even on yesterday (tuesday). sbmm wasn't activated until Wednesday morning 11am est.

Sounds like you were having pretty good matches on the old system...

    1. Could be balanced once the devs get more data from the top 5% of the playerbase.
    2. See above
    3. This doesn´t affect 95% of the playerbase (you´re save, me too! weeeee)
    4. When your grade goes up, its a win.
    5. Maybe thats why it took them so long? They finally figured it out?
    1. They've already said multiple times they don't give a ######### about balancing for the top level
    2. See above
    3. Last test was mostly Blight and Nurse games for me as survivor (i'm not save)
    4. So the current emblem system then?
    5. It took them 4 years to change iri head + infantry belt from 3 hatchets to 1. Just as long to add color blind settings. Time doesn't equal better.
  • Yea that's definitely the only reason people that have a lot of experience with the game think it won't work.

    Couldn't be anything else like.

    1. Unbalanced mess of perks, killers, add ons on both sides

    2. Massive amount of rng in maps, totems, spawn points

    3. If you're good at survivor you won't get to play against 90% of the killer roster anymore

    4. No defined win condition

    5. Hidden rating system from a company that has a poor track record of delivering on new features

But hey, as long as streamers have a miserable time too, right?

  • It's ok guys, we can blindly trust the devs that coded and implemented the ####### chat filter...

Lying? Did not say that but since you bring it up I do think people exaggerate quite often. I am assuming you lost every one of those matches? If so you should have dropped rating.

It's not that I think people lie it's the fact there are too many followers these days that just repeat was the last person said so let's say I'm a skeptic.

"here we are everyone thinks there the top % and will only play these 3. Most of you aren't the top and will see plenty of different killers. "

Forum users represent a small minority of the overall playerbase and are likely to be more experienced than the average player. I'd say its reasonable to assume a lot of the regular forum users are near the top percentiles.

"I'm sure there are plenty of every killer at the top"

And we just had a test that proved the opposite. As I said before, but you thought I "exaggerated", I played the vast majority of games during the test against Blight and Nurse. Spirit has been bugged for almost a month and a half or I would expect to see her more.

The best players agree only Nurse, Spirit, and Blight are viable against 4 good survivors, so why wouldn't you expect to only play against them with MMR active?

I don't remember the result of all my matches during the test. But I remember most matches were very short, and very boring. Teammates were all good so gens flew. Killer would have to tunnel/camp his/her first hook and hope Ruin stayed up long enough to make it a 3v1. Very rarely did someone on either side break 20k bloodpoints.

I would much rather try to carry a couple of below overage teammates and get a wider mix of killers/teammates than play the same match every time.

  • @chargernick85 said:

Sure are lots of comments "Can't wait to play Nurse, Spirit, and Blight every game".

So it's been said the "top" is sweaty and you need these 3 killers to compete. I find it funny so many of you all think you are the top percent. When a argument about killer balance is brought up everyone is quick to say "But that's the top %/Comp and that is a small % of people" but here we are everyone thinks there the top % and will only play these 3. Most of you aren't the top and will see plenty of different killers. I am sure I'm not the only killer who is best with Pig, Fred, Trapper, etc. Those 3 most powerful aren't my most powerful and I'm sure there are plenty of every killer at the top. just wait and see instead of pissing your pants.

We just had a test a few weeks ago and this was exactly my experience playing survivor. Almost every match was Blight with 4 slowdown perks, alchemists ring and blighted crow or strongest build on nurse.. This test was recent so why do you think people are lying about it?

  • They said in a dev update like six months ago that they were working on polishing the standing idle and injured running animations. And then they just...didn't.

    I still hate those ones.

  • Would be nice to have options like this for those of us that don't live in censorious countries. Sucks being held to the standard of the pearl-clutchiest common denominator.

  • Balance would be a colossal mess but I don't care. Would be down for the chaos.

  • I mostly stopped bringing anything when the devs decided occasionally keeping your add ons for escaping with an item was unfair.

I only bring something if it's for a specific build I want to try or challenges, etc.

  • If only they would bring back fog so you couldn't see across some entire maps from end to end :c

  • So this also happens with Kate when infected vs Plague and opening an exit gate. Not sure if there are similar problems with gen repair. D:

Zero Counter? There is 100% a counter, but I often don't see killers run it so I figured they just don't mind the perk. As someone who runs all of my survivors with Iron Will, I know this perk very well. Its known as Stridor. A teachable Nurse perk. Iron Will is not an OP perk whatsoever. If you feel that way, just join the ranks of the OP killers instead...

Someone didn't read the midchapter patch notes

  • I think his turning was made easier, especially for console players, and he got the pov fix a few months ago.

I despise playing against him. Give me all the spirit games please.

  • @Snowbawlzzz said:

High level killer with SBMM was a ######### sauna of sweat

I couldn't play my usual killer because I had to switch to Blight to beat all the SWFs

And all I got as survivor were Blight and Nurse with slowdown builds. I understood the builds as my teammates were very good (or hacking) but games were miserable. Win or lose, rarely did anyone break 20k points. It was mostly decided by if the killer could tunnel someone before Ruin/Undying were cleansed. Matches lasted 4-5 minutes, and no fun was had.

If they insist on implementing a "skill-based" system in this buggy, unbalanced, rng mess of a game, they need to loosen the range of acceptable matches so I don't only go against S tier killers running comp builds.

This is why Survivors get nerfed for 5 years now... If Devs would only care for Survivor, they would still have their broken Stuff. Killers would still play, they played back then and would still play now.

    @Topic:

I dont think that Badham is that bad. The school and the House of Pain are strong, but it is not like it is impossible to win overall. Basically every Pallet outside of a Building is unsafe and playable for the Killer.

Great, I'll just chase them outside of all the buildings that are easily within a safe distance of 6 out of 7 gens...

I know I can eventually get a hit by holding W at the preschool but by the time I "win" that chase the match is over vs any competent survivors. Just the fence vault loop outside school is a guaranteed 30-40 seconds of time wasted with no pallets used. Then there are guaranteed 2 god pallets inside that can double that time or buy enough time to reach another of the multiple safe buildings.

I main survivor. Every one of the primary structures on that map is insanely strong. Throw on perks like Iron Will, Lucky Break, Quick & Quiet, Deception, etc., and they're even worse with the multiple windows, lockers, and audio occlusion bugs between floors.

  • It didn't used to force you to disconnect from a match in progress. It changed several months ago. It used to only kick you out after a match and didn't give you a penalty.

  • I prefer the old coldwind lighting. It fit the DBD horror style better imo. Also, can they at least change the name is they insist on keeping the hot summer sun look? The maps look neither cold nor windy now.

  • @SilentPill said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2448337#Comment_2448337

That’s until you realize that DBD gameplay with 4 experienced survivors is usually hideous as killer. It can really feel more like a job than a game.

And let’s be real here, this game isn’t getting balanced ever. 5 years and we still got sooooo many broken things and they keep releasing more. 5 years for an Iri head nerf, just think about that. I think anyone decent at balancing should have realized that was broken within about 5 seconds.

I also didn’t like the SBMM introduction to call of duty. It was nice having some variation in the games. Some games you could do really good, some really bad, etc. SBMM made it so every game pretty much everyone just gets a 1 K/D and it’s kinda stale and predictable.

Agreed on every match feeling the same with mmr. For me, playing survivor during the last test was "hmm, I wonder what cosmetic the slowdown perks, alchemists ring Blight will wear this time".

And yep, the devs have already said and proven they don't care about balance. I don't get why people think mmr will even function in this game, or that suddenly the devs will have an epiphany about balance.

  • Let's see, for starters, the devs making 4 separate patches over the last year to prevent mixing set cosmetics, while barely attempting (and mostly failing) one patch to fix console performance.

The devs "updating" various maps, models, animations, and UI in a rushed fashion, mostly ignoring any negative feedback, and declaring said reworks a success.

Unnecessary and dysfunctional chat filter that has no option to be disabled if you don't want daddy gaming company to save you from scary words.

Getting pallet hit rollbacks when playing killer every other match.

MMR that only matches me against Blight and Nurse players with 4 slowdown perks, leading to burnout and boredom from lack of variety in survivor gameplay.

Continually creating and reworking killers to be strong 1v1 in chase but terrible 1v4, making games boring for both sides. Survivors hold W and M1 to counter oppressive anti-loop mechanics and no one has fun.

I'm sure there are other things but these just came to mind.

  • If I could offer an alternative, I'd like if the "give props" button had an effect like this. Maybe give everyone a cap of say 10 "thumbs ups" per 24 hours, and when you use the "give props" on another player after a match they get an extra 1k points?

  • My matches were also mostly Blight and Nurse with tournament builds. I usually had good teammates (or hackers) but I didn't care. The matches were completely boring. Usually less than 5 minutes, killer would try to tunnel one survivor before his ruin/undying totems were found. Otherwise we would all escape and no one would get more than 20k points.

I'd rather have occasionally bad teammates than go against the same killers every match in a never ending sweatfest.

  • No way, how can I survive mean words on the internet without daddy gaming company to protect me c:

  • I'd much rather deal with occasional potato teammates in solo queue than have good teammates and face nothing but Blight and Nurse with 4 slowdown perks and best add ons.

The bit of RNG in matchmaking due to the clustering in red ranks fits with the rest of the game being unbalanced and RNG. The devs know the game is unbalanced in high skill matches and don't care. They would have made changes years ago if that were the case.

  • I still think Kate looks worse than her original model. I saw tons of complaints about her. But, in typical BHVR fashion, they declared the reworks a success and ignored feedback.

  • @Tsulan said:

The matches during the test were great. But some people just didn´t want it, because they got matched with/against some new players.

Meanwhile, with the SBMMR deactivated: rank 20 killer gets matched against purple and red survivors.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/X8T3C9W9HALP/normal.jpg

That only happens when queue times get too long, and is designed that way by BHVR. They've said before, they prioritize queue times over a fair match. Do you really think they'll change that with the MMR? And if so, what's stopping them from adjusting the current system to eliminate that.

My late night matches with MMR when survivor queues were long were just as unbalanced as your example. We couldn't see ranks but it was obvious from the killer having 1 perk and having no idea how to use their power.

If you want to argue for MMR, you should compare the two when queue times are normal. The matchmaking falls apart with either system when queues are bad, and does so by design.

  • @NekoTorvic said:

Oh yeah...it was so much fun to have games end in less than 6 minutes regardless of whether i won or lost because there's no time for anything, having survivors not outplay me at all but still make it to endgame JUST because they held M1 on separate inanimate objects, while stacking second chances to stall, and having a 3rd of my games be hackers.

Oh and lets not forget that since games were so quick, barely anyone got any points. Neither I, nor the survivors I went against had a good time while MMR was on. Except the hackers tho, they had a good time doing whatever they wanted.

This game is not balanced for survivors that know how to play the game. Once it is, then bring the mmr. I honestly think if they just make ranking up a lil harder, you'll find a better assortment of people in the ranks where they more or less belong.

This was my experience. I rarely got over 20k points when escaping as survivor during the test. Most of my matches were against Blight with 4 slowdown perks. I didn't even see half of the killer roster the whole weekend. And yea, so many hacker teammates. Short, sweaty matches that no one enjoyed. I'd much rather have the more random matchmaking we currently have. It fits with the rest of the RNG in the game and is much better for DBD as a casual game.
