Where is the bug or error in game design? I feel like you're being pedantic to try and draw light to a perceived issue with the game.
Last second switch has existed literally forever, and I'm assuming not 'patched' out because items really aren't all that powerful, not to mention killers literally used to dodge prestige players so it was the only way to play with your P3 clothing before the store existed.
No one is defending killers who dodged P3 clothed survivors, but that is beside the point.
So what is the reason you would last-second switch other than to gain a competitive advantage of the killer not knowing which item you plan to bring?
Whether items are powerful or not is also beside the point. It can mean the difference between running certain perks or addons.
-
I definitely consider this to fall under the definition of “abusing… errors in design to gain a competitive advantage”.
You abuse the fact that the killer can’t change their build once the countdown is locked in, accomplished by the “last second switch”.
-
Blood Favor needs to not be a Hex, period.

90% of games I see Pop paired with BBQ, Thrilling Tremors, Discordance or Tinkerer. You never see Pop alone unless it's one of those insecure killers who need 4 slowdowns for some reason.
I love seeing killers use Corrupt, Ruin, and Pop. 😂
But yeah, you’re pretty much forced to run a tracking perk with PGTW or it will run out before you can find a suitable gen to use it with.
-
I just created a similar thread, whoops… ☹️
But I don’t think survivors should have to ability to switch characters or items (only perks or add-ons) once in the lobby with the killer.

Which is why i said "most gens" >.>
Even on other maps like Groaning Storehouse, it’s problematic. Unless you have a direct bearing from BBQ or some kind of tracking perk, Pop can be almost useless.

Even as a 110% (4,4 m/s) movement speed killer you can cross about 180m of distance before you have to kick a gen.
You could even walk as Nurse and still have enough time to get to most gens.
On RPD and Red Forest? Lol.

The reason to do it seems obvious to me. To sell it to new players.
It’s not obvious because it would require a lot of work to reskin/animate 3 characters just to sell it to a minority. A brand new chapter can be sold to the whole player base.

I agree that the nerf was bullshit, specially on big maps but I would buff bad slowdown/detection perks before pop to see more variety to be honest.
That would be my preference. There’s simply not enough good perks for gen defense. Most are too niche.

Except on indoor maps, that killers think are only hard for them, it can take twice as long to even find a ######### gen
But there’s perks and items that help survivors find gens. Not every killer has an All Seeing add-on like Wraith. And killer perks are very limited when it comes to Aura Reading capabilities.
-
@dspaceman20 said:
I'm going to say no as its going to leave perks like repressed alliances and blast mine more useless and situational.
I wouldn’t say useless as killers still kick gens regardless of having pop or not.
-
Wraith with speed addon and Silent Bell on that map is also incredibly oppressive.
Also, Hag…
-
Hatchet hitboxes are kind of doodoo, but other than the occasional “hits you when you’re already past a wall”, she’s a fun killer to play and face.
-
God, I hate ostrich survivors so much. There needs to be a mechanic besides birds that reveal survivor locations if they don’t progress the game (gens, healing, totems, unhooks) for a certain amount of time. Doesn’t have to be a ridiculously short timer… 2 minutes should be plenty.
-
Not gonna lie, I get pissed off when I’m trying to do a rift challenge that involves blinding the killer and they bring Lightborn. It’s especially infuriating when I’m the only one in the lobby with a flashlight as well, yet they still feel the need to bring Lightborn.
Still, you’re in your right to run whatever perk you want. It’s not like Lightborn will win you games unless the stupid survivors don’t realize what’s happening and keep trying to get flashlight saves.
-
They could, but it’d be a pretty big waste of their development time.
Why work on a reskin and programming for characters that a majority of the community already owns? It would make more financial sense to BHVR to continue working on brand new content.
A reskin of Hawkins is all I’m expecting, and even that could be a longshot.

Hexes like Ruin are unreliable, so now we need a reliable gen defence perk again. They need to revert Pop back. I've lost so many Pops to the stupid 15 second nerf.
Exactly. Hex Ruin would be great but… it’s a Hex.
Corrupt is the only other solid gen defense perk in the Big 3, and it only lasts 2 minutes.
With more and more survivor perks coming out that counter killer perks, it’s time to reevaluate what can be done. Either revert Pop or buff weaker gen defense perks. Ex: make Dead Man’s Switch not specific to the obsession.
-
I don’t think killers need to be OP, but they need to all have the potential to perform on the level of killers like Nurse, Spirit or Blight.
Right now we have limited options on viable killers so if we want to “have fun” playing a bottom tier killer such as Clown then we will gen rushed, clicky-clicky’d, etc…
-

Maybe buffing it by 5 seconds would be alright.
RPD, Red Forest, etc… all maps that turn Pop into a joke for killers that move a flat 115 or 110. Then you throw in the potential of Blast Mine and Repressed… RIP.
-
PTB is a good way to discover bugs or broken mechanics from the new killer or perks.
Limiting it to Steam only though is completely BS. I’m sure it’s due to “limitations” but the HUGE console community also needs to be able to contribute to the feedback.
-
Hit Validation absolutely cucking killers and letting survivors get free escapes.
-
@glitchboi said:
45 seconds is fine. I think the nerf is good, it makes Repressed and Blast Mine more effective against it. PGTW is still a top-tier perk.
Even 50 seconds would be a good enough for me in the case of those big maps.
-
@ThanksForDaily said:
In 45 seconds you can circle around the map and then you can kick whatever gen you want. Plenty of time.
Some maps require 45 seconds or even more for you to check on all the gens.
-
@indieeden7 said:
Also, the shortened Pop duration also makes it so you have to pick between applying pressure or kicking a gen and forfeiting a hit or even a down.
That is literally why they changed it, so that killers felt as though they had to prioritise using Pop over downing survivors in order to reduce snowball potential.
Also, perks like Blastmine and Repressed Alliance are designed to counter Pop, why should you buff Pop just to negate its counter, subsequently making Blastmine and Repressed Alliance even more situational.
Blast Mine and Repressed would still work the same way. They force the killer to make the choice whether to chase or wait for the gen to get unblocked.

They should just buff deathslingers teachables in general if you ask me he has the worst teachables set in the game
Retribution can be fun on certain builds. But his other 2 are atrociously bad.

@ad19970 said:
I personally still think it is fine. If a Pop can't be used because the last few seconds are wasted on being stunned by Blast Mine, than that just means Blast Mine has it's fair uses, which is always a good thing.
In general PGTW is still one of the best killer perks in the game, I'd much rather have weak perks buffed.
Buff Gearhead? Lol.
-
@ThiccBudhha said:
And Lightborn doesn't even counter the stun for Blastmine. So you cannot even counterplay it that way which is absurd.
Yup. Blast Mine is a guaranteed punish for 30 seconds or a punish making you eat a long stun.

Every match from my testing. I won't play her outside of a custom match setting because I'm not dealing with three Iron Wills and zero footsteps on an indoor map.
Wow and I thought I was just going crazy. BHVR better fix this or Spirit will be a laughingstock.
-
Is the no footsteps while phasing a constant bug every match or does it happen once in a while?
-
What if each survivor only had 2 hook states instead of 3, but gen speeds are cut in half (as in, only take half as long to complete)?
-
Imagine DC’ing because you’re getting mori’d. 😂
Just take your bloodpoints and move on to the next match. The killer still gets points for you DC’ing, FYI.

Correct the actual hitbox is, but visually they are the same.
And again, better/more cosmetics.
I think Ace has some of the best survivor cosmetics in the game. My preference, of course. What they did to his beard in the visual update was questionable though…
Yeah, it’s kind of a domino effect (or chicken and egg?) with the cosmetics though. The devs work on cosmetics for popular characters… but if people started playing other characters more would the devs change which characters they’d work on cosmetics for? I guess no one plays Adam or Jeff because those 2 boys get one cosmetic every year or two lol.

Still not a long range attack, and requires 3 health states to down a nsurvivor.

Female survivors are smaller and get better clothes
So you theorize they’re primarily picked from a tactical perspective? Female survivors are “shorter” so they can hide easier? Although I think the hurtbox of all survivors are the same, regardless of height right?
-
@Pilot said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2442027#Comment_2442027
True, but the amount of edge this tech can give you is pretty insane. Survivors never expect it & it removes some counter-play from him.
Eh, it’s basically the same as dodging a huntress hatchet. The hitbox of that hatchet extends a bit past the visual space it occupies. Besides, Nemmy’s whip is a very small hitbox and not long range.

Gotcha. RIP.

Why do you guys think there’s such a discrepancy in the female to male character selection ratio?
I personally main Ace and Kate, they have all perks so I can have variety. However I know a lot of dudes who just play Claudette, Nea, Meg, etc… any ideas?

Guess I'm forced to, hah?
To give context.
Nemesis can strike with the whip forward. Now, he can slide either left or right. When he slides, the hit lingers.
SO, you can pull something like this
- Youi're chasing a survivor but he gets to a pallet, but you can't strike him with the whip. So.... You look at the wall, slide towards the pallet and the range & hit of the whip will carry over to the pallet, hitting the survivor in the process or breaking the pallet if no contact is made.
Mind you... this is just one example of what you can do with this tech.
I think it’s perfectly fine, seeing as how if you’re using your tentacle to hit survivors then you need to go through 3 health states. Nemmy aint a strong killer.

What was the Gearhead treatment? From what I can remember, that has always been a garbage perk.

I feel it's too oppressive. Instead of the shuffle they could do one that lights all totems after one is broken to provide confusion, or block off any active totems for a period of time like Corrupt Intervention does for gens.
Blocking off all totems for around 15 seconds after one is cleansed sounds like a simple and fair idea. I’m all for a (non-hex) perk like that.

If it helps, a couple of years ago Disney pulled all the Marvel licenses from Netflix so they had to pull/cancel all of their original Marvel shows.
Losing Daredevil was tragic.
To the OP - Netflix probably already made its fair share of money from the deal with DBD, but it definitely won’t hurt their pockets seeing as how they generated more than 25B last year.

The whole point of the combo is that it already takes 10s to do the box. On top of that with add-ons I think it can take up to 20-25s. It would also make everyone get hit by chains and basically secure a down on people.
That's why it's a good combo, and I'd run thanat just because of the hit and run you'd be doing.
20-25 seconds? That’s pretty crazy!
So Ruin, Hoarder, Franklin’s, and Thana will definitely be the way to go.
-
@landromat said:

You don't have to think about gens once you activated the box. And it's just 1 hit with franklins
Why don’t I have to worry about gens?
-
@Sandt21 said:
Wow. That does seem powerful, especially is you use two of the addon that increases the time needed for survivors to solve the Lament Configuration
That sounds really interesting. But I wonder how much time you’d waste defending the box versus gens… or dropping a chase because you got the item pickup notification.
-
I’ll still have every right to call out a bad killer player who only got 1 or more kills solely due to NOED, but the fact remains that the Devs are the ones who design poorly thought-out perks - NOT the players. The blame ultimately falls on the devs.
**NOED is an example here. Survivors have just as many, if not more, second chance perks.
