I'd much rather a non hex perk that blocks all totems for 60-90 seconds at the beginning of the match. This would keep you from losing hexes at the beginning of the match regardless of RNG. You'd get at least some value out of things like ruin, blood favor, and the third seal, without making things like devour hope absurdly overpowered, as you'll probably not get 3 hooks and unhooks in a minute and a half.

And when mixed with other perks could give you a bit of slowdown at the beginning of the match so that 3 gens going in two minutes isn't as common.

This would allow hexes to still be viable, while giving survivors plenty of opportunity to use boons, without every having to change the way either perk works.

This sure would be really neat! Like a Corrupt Intervention but for Hex Totems! Great idea!

How are we supposed to do the bless 2 totems with the perk Boon : Circle of healing and do it in a single trial, I've tried different ways but it doesn't give it to you if you possibly think you finished doing it.

I finished that challenge on my very first trial, I ended up blessing 4 Boons that trial, exceeding the goals all together.

Hint: Use Boon + Small Game.

It's not a matter of forgiveness or forgetfulness.

It's a matter of practicing what we preach as a society. It's all well and good to say 'I believe people can change' or 'it should be about rehabilitation as well as punishment' - but too few people actually adhere to this in their own lives.

You never even acknowledged my compliment! :( cries

I'm not the kind of person that bullies or instigates a mob of sjw's against people for their opinions, nor do I like the idea of ruining someone's life over them (cancel culture) as I believe that they have the right to say whatever they want, just as much as we have the right to debate, argue, bemoan or ignore them for it... but not the right to attack them. I'm more of a "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." kind of guy.

However, I DO hold people accountable for things they've done, and through their actions, have caused others painful consequences, especially if what they did created victims of innocent people, and said consequences still linger to this day. Victor Salva falls under this category of people. Creative though he may be, paying him for his art feels dirty upon learning/knowing what he's done. Even on the set of Jeepers Creepers 2, the staff had to keep him at a distance from all of the young boys in the cast as he was apparently overly friendly with them, and when he couldn't get close to them he started making unnecessary demands that there needed to be more scenes of the Minor aged male actors showing off more skin (shuddering in discomfort here). He may have never re-offended, that we know of, but considering that information from the JC2 set, I would argue that it's not because he's a changed man, and more because no one was stupid enough to let him.

While you do raise valid points about "forgive and forget", some things are just too hard to forgive, and no one will ever let him forget it. If that means boycotting his art as a way of informing him his work is unwelcome due to his infamous past, as nothing else will hit as hard as a loss in his bank account, then I'm all for it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2598657#Comment_2598657

So they paid him for the rights to make the movie, but the question is... will he still get royalties from the movie sales? or do the makers of the new movie now own all the rights, and are the only ones who will make a profit on the franchise from here on out?

If it's the former, then BHVR will not likely bring the character to the table for licensing negotiations.

Well, I suppose I would accept or at least consider the argument that:

"I like Jeepers Creepers, I want it to be in DBD because it would be a cool license to add, I have enjoyed the movies in the past, but despite wishing that I could have all of these things and knowing that I would probably enjoy them and they would bring my life some sort of positive happiness or entertainment value, I CHOOSE not to because I do not want to support a convicted criminal in any sort of way. It's really a shame that this person had to do these things, and I happened to find out about it, because now in good conscience I simply have to "ban" something that I actually like from my own life."

This is a respectable decision that I guess is what some of you have made, including BHVR possibly, that I can logically agree with because you are actively deciding to void yourself of some pleasure for the cause and morals you believe in.

I don't particularly know if I am this strong myself, to do such a thing, however I think the counter argument that many people have pointed out about this and why it is still "best" to "separate the artist from the art" is that if you really knew all the bad things that people did in the world and reacted the same way to every single form of art or creation then eventually there would be very few things left in the world for you to enjoy.

I'm certain that plenty of things that we enjoy in life have a horrible history behind it, but what is life without any of these things? Well, I don't particularly care to find out - I think it's simply easier on the brain to just separate the two which is why people have been saying that in this thread quite often.

i just wanted to state that although these opinions stated are controversial that i also agree with them i like to look at it from a logical viewpoint de attached from any issue and viewing it with no emotions attached

People change and everybody wants to think that people dont but they do trust me im much different from the man i was 10 years ago ik great men that had terribile things happen to them and terrible men that had great things happen to them

dont be fooled even cain killed abel, looks can be deceiving even jesus's eyes were hazel

Yes! Less Emotions / No Emotions = Better!

Starlost made a couple of good points about the essence of rehabilitation and paying for your crimes, ones that are impossible to argue against because the only alternative would be as he mentioned the death penalty or similar.

I don't particularly know myself if I believe that people truly can "change" or if they just learn that they don't want to get in trouble and punished by society again - I do believe that deep down every human is born in their DNA/genes with certain traits and characteristics that eventually evolve into who they become and I don't think that those can change and in many cases criminals who do violent crimes for example do not have the ability to even feel bad or remorse about what they have done, it is not in their DNA to feel for others or imagine the true nature of their crimes.

I do agree however that people are able to change their behavior, regardless of who they are deep down inside, so whether or not this person would still remain a pedophile if they could be because that is what they are sexually attracted to, perhaps he has learned to not act on those urges and hold back at all times. In case of a pedophile - which is a different topic all together and not one I am very familiar with - but I can only imagine it must be horrible to be sexually attracted to children.. I do think it must be a sickness people are born with to some extent, because I personally am not and have never been sexually attracted to children so I have no idea what that must be like, just like I am not sexually attracted to men either, but women turn me on. Society is finally allowing people who are born sexually attracted to the same sex or feel like they are born the opposite sex to become gay, transgender, etc, and I think that is a good thing - because people feel they are born that way and want to be who they really are. That doesn't really hurt anyone else, but a Pedophile on the other hand has to commit crimes and potentially destroy a child's life in order to satisfy their sexual desires, just like serial killers have to do their thing to get themselves off.

It's certainly not an excuse, and they SHOULD NOT do it, even if they have the urges they need to know that it's a terrible thing and they shouldn't do it. But I wouldn't know what it feels like, because I don't even get those type of urges fortunately, and never have. They do, they're born with these urges, which is why I think it's some kind of mental illness that is abnormal in these people who do such things.

Anyways I went off on a bit of a rant there just on the topic of change - bottom line, I agree with what you said, I too have changed quite a lot from my former self to the person I am today - in fact I can tell you that when I was in Elementary School I was rather considered a "bully" because I was a really big kid (5'8 in 4th Grade) and the other kids were scared of me and I didn't even know this until I was told by some parents, but I guess the kids always felt like they had to do whatever I suggested because they were scared of me..

Anyways, I was given that information in 6th Grade - and then since then I have changed my ways to never be that way again and for the past 20 years or so I have been told by numerous, countless people that I am the nicest/kindest/friendliest person they have ever met!

So yeah, I believe people can change, but it's all mental, and to what degree are people successful and what can trigger them to fall back on their old habits or urges? It gets a bit too complicated for me personally haha.

I will end on this final note on the actual Topic of conversation of this Thread before I derailed it a bit, stating that ultimately from my personal view, having just learned about this Pedophile guy and his relation to Jeepers Creepers - I don't support his actions as a Pedophile, I don't have to like him, in my eyes he is a Criminal, I don't really care whether or not he's truly changed and learned his lessons from the punishment of his crimes, I don't really know if he's truly been rehabilitated or not and it doesn't make me like him any more or less because I still think he's a terrible human if he was convicted of these crimes, and I'll probably never meet him or talk about him again ever again after this thread.

But I f**kng like Jeepers Creepers, and that's not going to change, because it is a FACT.

Just cause I don't like the guy behind the movie, doesn't mean that when I watched the Movies I ENJOYED THEM. I would be lying to myself if I said that I didn't. Jeepers Creepers isn't perfect, or awesome, it's somewhere in the middle of mediocre and great, and I love that tune they sing, and I have good memories of it, and nothing can take that away from me because it is real.

So yeah - I guess as others have said - "Separation of Artist from the Art"? Or whatever. It should hold true in all cases not just some cases - this is the correct way to think because thinking any other way is being hypocritical. People can choose to be hypocritical and that's okay, but it is not a logical viewpoint because being a hypocrite is technically a flaw.

EDIT: I had to censor my F** word manually because it wasn't censored automatically for some reason and I didn't want to get in trouble XD lol I always thought words got censored automatically on these Forums?

It depends how you want to look at it. I think that all media has a practical use.

To me, it's like trying to ban The Jungle Book or Huckleberry Finn. I'm a big proponent of Death of the Author - media should be enjoyed separately from it's creator.

There is another, bigger and much more complicated issue here though, and one that's probably going to rustle some feathers.

When someone commits a crime, goes to jail and is released, completes their probation or what have you and commits no further crimes - he or she should be clear (within reason). The formerly incarcerated suffer massive prejudices in society, from a lack of voting rights to constant surveillance. I'm not a fan of that, because it's saying that offenders can never be rehabilitated and need to be punished until they die - which is a pretty dark road to go down.

Salva commited a crime. For doing that thing, he went to prison, served his probation and has never reoffended. I have no love for the man, but right now, as a society, we are way too prone to collective vigilantism.

Woof, heavy stuff for a gaming forum, but I think that it's an interesting and important topic.

Dude, I Love the way you think! Couldn't agree more on almost every topic of conversation that you wrote in this thread! It is 100% unbiased and purely logical thinking that I really wish that more people in the world shared your views and thought process, generally speaking of course.

I had no idea about any of this prior to this thread by the way, I learned as I read what you guys have wrote, but as it stands the most reasonable person here by far has been you, StarLost, and while this is just a gaming forum I want to compliment you on your brain.

You shared possibly controversial thoughts that were extremely valid and made a lot of sense, I happen to also agree with what you said in the entire thread, but even if I did not I would at least consider the things you wrote and possibly change my own opinion!

Thank you. I am often the one in my "group" or social life who tends to speak the "uncomfortable truths" that no one else really wants to agree with despite my logic being very reasonable and sound, it's just honestly nice to see that I'm not the only one in the world <3

EDIT: I saw some others mentioning that this Thread might get shut down if people aren't careful because of this Topic - but honestly I really hope that it doesn't because this has been legitimately the most interesting Thread I've read on these Forums in a VERY long time. It actually has brightened my day and put me in a better mood (especially after having a few terrible matches as Killer on Haddonfield with Boon Totems ><)

As you guys might know, i new Jeepers Creepers movie is coming out, this one is a complete reboot with new staff, completely from scratch with no attachments to the old ones. So no bad rep attached to this one.

So with that in mind, does the Creeper have another chance to be in the game? If not, i understand, but could this work?

Holy crap! There's a new Jeepers Creepers coming out?! That's awesome, I used to love those movies when I was a kid! haha

Justin Long! XD Never really see him anymore, what a random actor he has been in so much random stuff.

Anyways, Jeepers Creepers would be hell of fun to play in DBD - if they could make it work I would be down, but for some reason I feel that it's doubtful.

Bad Rep? Huh, not that it was an all time favorite or anything but everyone I've ever met where the original movies have been brought up in conversations seemed to have liked the films and remembered them similarly to how I do.

4 Shadow step and 2 circle of healing. How am i even suppose to play against that ??!

I already hear the survivor only say: "Just break them" or "It's not OP because it takes a long time to boon the totem". LOL

I couldn't see their scratch marks because their totem covered all the map and when i broke them i heard that thunder sound 30sec later that told me that the totem was up again. It's literally uncounterable.

So i propose many things to nerf those boon perks:

    • A cooldown of 80sec when a survivor boon a totem AND when the killer break a totem.
    • Being able to apply only 1 boon to a totem (so only shadow step or CoH)
    • Reduce the totem's range to 20 meters

Or just a simple nerf : that the killer break the totem when unboon the totem

In any case, this as to be fixed !

Holy crap, that wasn't even just the Boon totems, look at the rest of those builds.. WOW poor guy that looks rough, all those BT, DS, IW, SB jesus

I've seen a lot more people DC'ing cause they got downed early or they were the first hook. Not even camped or tunneled.

Dude this is ALL I see, instant DC on downs or first hooks.

I will say, one time this guy BLEW MY MIND.. lol - well to be precise I just could not understand his mentality at all..

Found a Guy early on as Killer, decided to Chase him, he was REALLY good like next level player, so much so that even though I knew I was going to lose the match because of him I decided to continue chasing anyways, and he had me chasing him for 3 GENS to be completed before I finally downed him.. and once I downed him he just DC immediately.

Why would he DC after he just ran for 3 full gens to completion? That's amazing! He should be super proud and realize that his team is going to win because of him, but instead he DC'd and if I remember correctly I either still ended with a 4K or 1 escaped but the rest died, all because this amazing runner decided to DC instead of continue playing the match, which I'm sure otherwise they would have all crushed me w/ 4 escapes.

Sadly I tried it out and it still isn't working for me as Survivor :(

It's definitely working AGAINST me as Killer though haha - just like Pallet Hit Validation - it has become another free invulnerability for Survivors.

It must just be how my game connects to the Server because I literally NEVER win hit validation whether I am Killer or Survivor and it's super annoying because I always see that it looks correct on my screen and yet I'm still not winning the trade.

Hmm, well I'm going to hop on and check it out, but if it means that Deadhard can be used to avoid a Killers non-lunge Swing (based on the start of the animation on the Survivors client) while the Killer is standing right behind them then that is utter BS as unlike all other Exhaustion Perks the Killer isn't able to assess if continuing the chase is worth it. They just have to get to the point they could have hit the Survivor, get met with E gameplay, and then eat their attack cooldown.

However this would mean that Unrelenting could become a more meta Perk, (If it actually had some other QoL stuff added to it...)

Yes, it works similar to pallet hit validation now - I've had multiple survivors abuse DH today by standing directly in front of me waiting for me to do a standing swing at them, only to DH directly into me and passed me and keep moving.

I'll be honest, in most cases it doesn't buy them too much time, but its still really annoying and looks glitchy af.

  • @ChiSoxFan11 said:

To start this off, I'm throwing it out there that I'm old. Like, REALLY old, lol. At least in the context of the general player base, and I'm probably not anywhere near the target age demographic of video game companies if I had to guess.

I've played rounds as killer where I've messaged players after the game (I'm on console, with messages off normally) to either say GG when someone played exceptionally well against me, to apolgize if the game was really rough or there was a DC, or as a survivor to thank a teammate who might have made a great save or play during the match to help with an escape (to the PC Jane I couldn't message that Head-On stunned the killer in a match last week to save my tail, if you're out there and see this -- thank you, lol!).

In talking with a few of these players, a couple asked to play with my friend and I, and when we got into voice chat, I was stunned by how young some of them were. I know video games are more a younger person's thing, but I've run into players who were in the 11-14 age range more often than I would have believed I would have for a game with this type of content.

With those experiences in mind, I'm curious what the average age of the player base actually is. Is DBD filled with college age players? Kids? Late 20's/early 30's adults? Grumpy old people like myself, lol? I've never seen any data, if it exists. I try to put the possibility I'm playing with kids into mind whenever I get angry or frustrated over something that happens to me that's "toxic", telling myself that the person doing it might actually not be old enough to know better (not that I still don't get salty at times, but convincing myself that the relentlessly teabagging Claudette at the exit might be a 13 year old who hasn't learned better yet makes that salt a little less common, lol).

As a disclaimer, I'm just curious who I'm actually playing with/against. There's certainly no "right" age to be playing this game, and there are plenty of people, I'm sure, that are really young who show better manners than people twice their age. If I had to guess, I'd probably be the oldest person in any random match I'm a part of, but I'm wondering by exactly how much that actually is.

I'm 31 myself, been playing DBD for 4+ years.

So far the average age of people that I've met playing DBD has been 20-30, at least anyone that I've bothered talking to and getting to know. Most of them are in their early 20s though rather.

The attack clearly hit, but the game stole the hit from me.

Yeah this is what I was afraid of lol - this has already happened to me multiple times today sigh

Yet another abusable thing for survivors. But that being said, I might try actually using DH again on Survivor - I wonder if it may finally work for me. lol

  • @Pulsar said:

Well, either Dead Hard is getting a big time buff (to how it was before Dedicated Servers) or it's not getting changed at all.

    From the Bugfix Patch Notes:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/N9886VU1W93J/dead-hard-png.png

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/GVW6AULMTQLX/dead-hard-2-png.png

This means Dead Hard will either be stronger than before or nothing will change. What's your bet?

As Survivor I have given up on using Dead Hard entirely because I always get downed even if I press it and am mid jump - so I wonder if this will make it possible to use again, which would be a pleasant change -

However, what I am worrying about is that when "hit validation" was added to Pallets (and this is still the case for me as of today and was never changed) Survivors were able to ABUSE, and have been, getting hit at a Pallet by me and taking the invulnerability that it gives them.

Ever since hit validation has been introduced, I myself have never ONCE won a single pallet swing in my life, on my screen SURE they get hit and often even SCREAM and I can see blood so I know for 100% fact that my hit landed successfully, but they don't lose a health state and carry on as if nothing has happened. This is the only thing that hit validation has done for me, and it has basically made me stop playing all M1 focused Killers entirely, or I choose to run Endurance/Brutal Strength now because I can't stand dealing with this any longer.

I don't think the change will have as noticeable of an effect on DH Hopefully but I am worried that there will be "Invulnerability" issues with this hit validation on DH as well - for example, if I see someone DH and I wait it out and Lunge at them AFTER when it should normally hit them because I was cautious and only swung AFTER I already know the standard DH should have worn off - I fear that now the hit will probably connect like it SHOULD but it will not count and it will give Survivors even more invulnerability than they deserve.

I'll have to see for myself, but that's the only thing that I am truly worried about. I don't want it to be abusable like Pallets currently are.

This fluid and true to the horror.

This is what the realm beyond and animation changes should have been like in the first place, a complete overall/redo of the game, give the praise to this amazing creation, showing us what dead by daylight could be, but also showing us what we will never have.

It looks so amazing, I saw that on YT earlier and immediately loved it! Really do wish the game could look like this, but I also agree that I don't see it ever happening.

The devs need to address this. I've never seen so many hackers in this game than this and the past month.

As killer, tons of flashlight hackers and that stupid boil over buff, and as a survivor, i see way too many cases of speed hacking, followed by a ######### eating " gg wp :D ".

And no mods, it is NOT the job of the paying playerbase to record every match, edit video files and send them to BHVR so the devs can slowly trickle down hackers one at a time. NO.

The devs need to upgrade to a different anti-cheat software or change something fundamental in the coding to prevent this.

And the community seriously needs to stop excusing this issue as "wEll tHeRe wiLl aLwAyS bE cHeAtErS" because with that dumb as ######### attitude, this will never get fixed.

There is no excuse for the game to be riddled with hackers like a ######### call of duty from 2010 era Xbox live. Especially a game that is still supported as financially stable as DBD.

I Agree, I have noticed it getting significantly worse lately.

It's strange because for 4 years I never faced a single Hacker, or at least not one that was so easy to tell that it's obvious, but in the past few months it has become noticeable and somewhat frequent. Not sure what all changed all of the sudden, but there are more for sure than before.

    This is the core problem.

Killers can't be balanced around SWF, because that would be miserable for solos.

Killers can't...well, shouldn't be balanced around solos, because then they just get rolled over by any similarly skilled players in a 4man.

The easiest solution - and I've made it before - is to copy what other companies have done with MMR, and attach a scaling MMR increase to people playing in a premade. Like...1.1x for a 2man, 1.3 for a 3man and 1.6 for a 4man.

This means that playing in a SWF will put you up against a proportionally more skilled killer, to compensate for the increased coordination.

That’s actually sounding fairly brilliant! Haha

I've started putting on Lightborn too when I get two or more flashlights in the lobby. The results are always hilarious. Half the time they don't even realize I have it and keep trying to blind me at pallets and they go down.

Same lol I’ve become a big fan - especially on Wraith

  • Well there have been some really cool suggestions in this thread that I actually can’t wait to try out for myself!! Thank you! Posting a comment so I can easily come back and find these another time if I want to remember what some of you wrote!

But I’ll go ahead and participate as well for the fun of it..

2 of my favorite “non meta” perk combos that I run on Survivor include:

    • Open Handed, Bond, Kindred, Windows of Opportunity/Detective’s Hunch.
    • Deception, Quick & Quiet, Head On, Inner Strength/Iron Will.

For Killer I have noticed that these 3 Perks pair and and have a lot of synergy together - the 4th can be substituted for anything in particular that’s good. I’ve tested it with Brutal Strength, BBQ, Tinkerer, Oppression, Fired Up, Deadlock just to give some examples.

    • Eruption, Thrilling Tremors, Pop.

Good luck - Have fun! Enjoy ;)

  • @Mineguy said:

Real question, does anyone like it? On YouTube I see only people complaining about it or one after another is saying the game is no fun anymore.

I for my self don't really like it nether. The boring meta that you had to bring almost every round to have a chance is now a absolut must have when you win a few rounds because gens will fly like hell.

I don't understand why this is needed... Yeah new beginners or people that are not good at the game have now a easier time but... This is so damaging for the people who play your game much and just want to have fun.

Honestly it almost did not change anything for me for Killer - I’ve been a Rank 1 Killer for a very long time and I’m super used to getting sweaty SWF teams with items and addons -

All of my Killer games are still facing against sweaty SWF teams, so not much has changed for me here.

On Survivor however; I’ve been getting much better matches and really enjoying myself,

I used to played Survivor at Purple ranks and could hardly ever get into Red Ranks, but since the MMR update I climbed to Red Grade on Survivor very easily simply by playing the game.. it’s actually been a lot more chill and I feel like I have to “carry” less than I used to before now.

overall I would say it’s been a positive change for me - and qeue times vary depending on what time I play - sometimes Killer is instant or sometime Survivor is - usually I just switch to playing the side with faster Qeues

A lot of people chalk up their poor game experience to going against a 4 man SWF. I've been accused of being in a SWF more than once when I wasn't, so when I see posts from people saying they lost to a SWF, I wonder if those people were actually in a SWF.

So the question is, post game, should everyone know who was in a SWF? And if so, why?

On the one hand, thinking you were in a SWF and learning you weren't could A, help you catch and report actual cheating but B, show you that you simply weren't as skilled as those you faced, and that could help you get better as a player. (I know, I know. I've been on these forums long enough to realize that "B" is a pipe dream. It takes a lot of maturity to accept someone simply outplayed you. There always has to be a reason outside of one's own shortcomings (ex: "The map is broken"). Sometimes that is true, but realizing when it isn't true is hard. Still, I'm the type who would find it valuable.)

But back to the question, I can think of a lot of pros and a lot of cons. And it certainly would open up a lot of questions. Should Killers get a proportionate BP bonus based on the size of the SWF, for instance? And what about those times when people play together, but aren't on comms? The game can't possibly account for that.

So what do you think? Do you think the cons outweigh the pros? Or do the pros outweigh the cons?

Yeah I would prefer to know after the game, especially if I got completely crushed it would at least make me feel a little better.

So basically lunging has some really screwy momentum bug/system now, meaning if you start a lunge while standing and then move forward (or on controller, say you're moving at half stick deflection and ramp up to max mid-lunge), your lunge speed will be capped, thus losing you distance. The main problem is that hugging walls & going at corners slows you down, and thus caps your lunge speed & distance. It also affects lunging while falling down off of hills and such, meaning Haddonfield just got even stronger for survivor.

I've also noticed some reeeeeealllly wonky hit detection when trying to hit people that are vaulting over pallets sometimes (despite being right next to them when they do it), and I don't know if it's just another M1/Pinhead bug or the new hit rollback system. I feel like it's the former since I've seen hit rollback on pallet drops and it doesn't seem to work the same...the hit just rebounds off the pallet instead of doing a recovery animation.

Ohhhh man I HOPE all of those things you mentioned are bugs because I DEFINITELY have experienced it..

Specifically the "Falling" lunge I 100% noticed that I couldn't land my hits the same way that I have been used to when falling from higher ground and it is certainly different now than what I've become familiar with over a very long time. I have been trying to adapt my swings to that, but I think you're right, I've also missed a lot of hits that were really close almost directly on top of the Survivor simply because they randomly decided to juke in one direction at the very last moment - my swing and camera follows them the direction that they try to juke to but for some reason the hit doesn't seem to register anyway.

Man, this whole time I thought it was just me, and now that I read your comment I'm aware that it's an actual thing that's happening in game.. gosh I really hope they fix it and it isn't here to stay. Have you seen any Bug Reports about this? I don't believe that I have..

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I really think it's the new lunge bug that's screwing him over the most. His power is designed around slowing people down juuuuuust enough to get the hit, but that's not really possible with the bug a lot of the time.

What is the bug? I think I may have experienced it but I thought I was just missing?

  • I think most people just don't like the 33% boost to healing for the obsession, a good SWF knows how to abuse that and almost makes dying light useless.

That being said, dying light combined with good perks that synergize well with it does have potential as you have pointed out. I meant to try it out with scourge hooks eventually but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I've been enjoying a few builds myself on Pinhead ^^

Yeah I played a solo survivor game last night, and my teammates (who somehow had an iridescent rating), ran all over the map doing nothing. The only gen done was completed by me. We would've walked all over the killer if my teammates weren't morons.

Oh my god I had a match earlier that was crazy like this, I ended up having the killer chase me for the first half the match even though no gens got done, then I finished 4/5 gens my self, 3 of them completely alone, and still ran the killer around more trying to distract for teammates as they slowly died and eventually I escaped by myself thru hatch with 1 gen left - I could not possibly believe or understand what my teammates were even doing most of the game.

There was a Claudette who did absolutely nothing while 2 of us were alive and I was running the killer for a very long time, eventually I lost the killer like 2min later and checked on gens only to find that none of them were worked on the entire time. Glad she got found after that, good riddance.

  • I've played for 1k+ Hours over 4 years and I never once encountered hackers until recently.

In the past 2-3 months I have encountered it 4 separate times, each of the times it was Survivors (more than one) on a Team with blatant hacks, flying around, speed hacks, healing hacks, etc.

3 of the times I was the Killer facing the hacking survivors, and 1 of the times I was the Survivor and the other 3 on my Team were the ones that were hacking.

Because I never noticed anything like this up until recently, I do believe that its a somewhat new trend that has gotten more popular or maybe DBD has gotten easier to hack over the years, not sure.

All I know is hacked games feel 100% useless and boring both as Killer and Survivor. Complete waste of time, not really even sure what can possibly be fun about it for the people doing it.

The first time I noticed it I took video recording and filled out the extremely extensive online reporting page on the DBD official website, sending in a ticket with complete documentation of the Hackers that I faced, video footage and all, but DBD auto-response said they were very busy handling tickets and literally never got back to me about it once... and it took me like 25min of work to actually report them correctly, so without knowing if the report worked and they really got banned or in trouble for it I decided that it's not worth the trouble and I didn't bother reporting the others that I came across after.

Grades don't affect matchmaking. At all.

What's more likely is in getting to grade 1 you acheived somewhat of a win steak, which increased your MMR.

Then as the day went on, player numbers decreased, and your higher MMR had fewer like matches to pull from, placing you against the next nearest matches, who also had higher MMR.

This seems very possible, and I have certainly considered it as the most likely possibility.

I hope that's the case, but I'm still a bit shocked the game considers my "MMR" to be so high even on the Killers I never touch.

EDIT: The last match I had, each Survivor I faced has at least around 3k Hours on the game.. and I was playing a Killer I myself only have a few hours on max.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

Rank was very poor for Matchmaking. And Grades have exactly nothing to do with Matchmaking at all, even if you have a Grade of Iridescent 1, this does not matter at all for Matchmaking.

You are most likely boosted because SBMM was already calculated while Ranks were used for Matchmaking, so you went against weaker opponents all the time and now you are at a Level where you dont belong. This should resolve itself after some games.

No, I mean literally earlier today during SBMM system active I played Pinhead from Rank 4 to Rank 1.

All of my matches up until "Grade 1" were actually fairly balanced and I was definitely not facing super sweaty Survivors, it felt like the SBMM was actually working and realized that I am playing a Killer that I am new with.

Then THE MOMENT I hit Grade 1, EVERYTHING changed.

Ever since I hit Grade 1 I have ONLY faced the Top Sweaty Survivors even when I'm playing either the new killer or other killers that I barely have any experience on. I wouldn't be surprised to face them on my Main Killers, but it's happening even on Killers that I am new with, which to my understanding was the whole point of having separate MMR per killer..

If what you say is true, and Grades really don't matter at all anymore, which is my understanding as well and I agree with you, then when I play a Killer that I am new with I should be facing Survivors that aren't clearly top level and using only Meta perks. That should happen when I play the Killers that I am good on and play a lot, but not the killers that I am still very new to and have not actually raised my MMR for yet.

Does that makes sense? I am pretty sure that was the point of each killer having their own rating.. but once I hit Grade 1 it seems like that was thrown out the window - and yes I felt like it was working correctly until then from my experience earlier, but then it all changed, when it shouldn't because Grade shouldn't matter as you said.

So my Question is whether or not any one else has experienced this happening at Grade 1 since the new SBMM update? Because it's just strange to me that all the sudden my match difficulty rose tenfold as soon as I hit Grade 1, and it has stayed at that higher level difficulty regardless of what killers I choose to play. But when I was Red 4-2 I actually did not feel this.

  • As Killer I've faced a lot of teams where it seemed like 2 players were good and new what they were doing and the other 2 played as if they were 100% completely new to the game.

I wonder if it is possible that the way the matchmaking works now is that it just takes the "average MMR" of the whole team and puts it up against the Killer? I'm not sure, maybe not, I read that it would do that for SWF though.. but if it also does it for Solo Qeue that would perhaps explain why half the team is garbage and the other half is competent..

Either way, we have to keep playing more to test it out. My games have been rather easy as Killer even at Rank 1, but I've only played Pinhead the new killer who I haven't had any experience or rating on yet. Mostly facing Red/Gold ranks, though many of them seem to not know what they are actually doing. My matches have always been significantly more difficult in the previous matchmaking system.

  • I tested MMR today and my matches were surprisingly decent, as Pinhead they were actually a bit too easy, I was going up against Gold/Red rank Survivors (as Red Rank Killer) but getting 4K constantly.

Last night before MMR this was NOT the case, I was only getting 0-2K matches last night on Pinhead. So I'm certain that the Survivors that I've been facing today since the MMR was added were significantly weaker.

That makes sense though, because Pinhead is a new killer and I've only played a few matches on him in total, so I'm sure it's just going to take some more to get me to the "correct" MMR that I should be playing at. I would much rather that they start me at a lower MMR and give me time to practice a new killer before throwing me into the sweaty teams that I'm used to facing. So far this is going nicely I think.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2475072#Comment_2475072

Correct, this is literally the point of NOED. In high level play, the chase to gen speed ratio is heavily in favor of survivors. This game is balanced around the idea that survivors are scared of the big bad killer, are scared to do gens, sneak around, loot chests, and do totems. As soon as survivors realize they don't have to roleplay that, balance goes out the window. NOED exists as a way to FORCE survivors to do another objective besides slam generators as fast as possible.

Look at it this way, if you want, i can show you the math. But if a survivor does nothing but hold w, uses no pallets, no windows, no mindgames, no nothing, just pure simple shift + w, it will take the killer 47 seconds to down that survivor. Factor in the time it took to find them, pick them up, find a hook, walk to the hook, and hook them. You probably just took around 65-70 seconds. Generators take 80 seconds. You literally can't end chases fast enough. Now factor in pallets, and windows, and tons of second chance perks.

NOED exists as a threat so survivors need to take a pause on slamming those generators to look for totems and do them. If they don't, they run the risk of NOED. This is the nature of it existing. It is the killer version of DS or BT. Killers basically have to assume a survivor is running DS, or the one who just got unhooked has BT. The power of DS isn't in actually running the perk, it is just the fact that the perk exists. The same is true for NOED.

Survivors have 16 perks among them, all it takes is for 1 of you to dedicate a slot for finding totems and to have 1 of you prioritize doing those totems in the early to mid game. 1 survivor, not 4, just 1, 1 perk slot. You don't even need to dedicate a perk slot if you don't want, you can use a map. Hell, you could also run inner strength, so you can also get a free heal as well.

    Point being.

    JUST

    DO

    BONES

This is so well said I can't believe anyone could possibly argue with you to be honest!

I actually made a thread yesterday about this, huge performance losses at 1440p and 4k for me. Also the disconnect thing seems to only effect games where the new killer is the killer, haven't had it happen on anyone else.

Yeah I play on a 4K Monitor as well, so that was for sure affected.

I played a Survivor game against a Huntress last night, literally best Survivor game of my life, carried the whole team would've been a 32k game I'm almost certain of it, went on for like 25-30min long and then the Disconnection error occurred, so I guess it may not only be the new killer. Though as Survivor the worst part of it was that I got disconnected from host, but didn't get taken to the "end lobby" so I got 0 BP for the entire match and didn't get to finish my challenge either etc. even though I would have.

No you're not the only one. I noticed my PC required lowering the graphics and resolution to actually have 60 fps when before the update i was maxing it out.

Its nice to know that the update caused that and not a graphics card issue, (getting a new one isn't really an option right now).

I agree, I thought for a little while that it was my PC or graphics card and it scared me.. but seems like it's just the game.

  • Same thing happening to me, trying to play Pinhead but every match gets cut short :(

Was hoping there would be a quick fix for it this morning when the SBMM was released but I suppose it hasn't happened yet.

  • This happened to me earlier today too!

“But "Disconnected from host" makes me feel like is it possible that the Survivor was the Host and because he got downed and new I was going to get a 4K he was able to DC and make my game crash / the match end early? Because that would be quite unfair if it became a thing.”

This isn’t how it works so you don’t need to worry. The host is the server, not any one player. So if you get a “disconnected from host” error, it’s a game issue and not caused by any players. In this particular instance it’s an issue with the new killer, other people are having the same problem as well.

Okay good to know! I guess the Disconnection issue is a known issue with playing Cenobite that many others are experiencing as well, specifically when there is only 1 survivor remaining. So I'm guessing that will be fixed.

Though the sudden drop in FPS and jittery gameplay I still can't figure out the reason for, I'm sort of glad to see that I'm not the only one experiencing it, but I hope they figure out what is causing the issue.

I have a 3700x, rtx 3070, and 16 GB of RAM. You'd think I'd be okay playing this on Ultra but I normally have to play it on High. Certain maps will make my fps plummet from 120 to about 70 at random times and that dip HURTS. Can only imagine how bad it can be on console now.

Strangely enough this is something new for me though, and I can't even play the game on Low anymore as of today.

Hoping that there is a reason for this and that it will be solved. I never once had this issue before, the game feels jittery and not fluid now at all times. I don't understand what could be going on, as I said, the game was always pretty fluid for me before with 1k hours played on Ultra. I wish I could find the actual issue causing this, but all I know is that the first time I've ever noticed this before was after today's update/patch.

  • I've had it happen to me EVERY single time there is only 1 survivor left.

When I land an attack on the final survivor I get "DC from host"

  • I've had it happen to me EVERY single time there is only 1 survivor left.

When I land an attack on the final survivor I get "DC from host"

  • Am I the only one this is happening to?

The disconnected from host just happened again, once more when I was about to get a 4K.

That's only happened to me so far when I was going to get 4K, it really seems like what is happening is the 4th Survivor is disconnecting from the match when I down them and I end up "getting disconnected from host" as a result.

For Killer this is really unfair because it ends up robbing us from 2 kills (in the scenario that 1 survivor is on the hook when it happens) and a ton of Bloodpoints, as well as prevents us from Pipping up when we were going to...

Hopefully others notice this happening to them too and it is something that is going to be fixed soon.

It might use a base mmr for new killers based on your average or something. Idk. I will test it with Nurse once the update drops as I struggle to even get a hook as her.

Yeah I'm sure my "base" MMR is pretty high granted I'm usually a pretty consistent Rank 1 Killer on my main.

Unfortunately, on practically EVERY other Killer I am terrible.. which makes the change not really that great when it takes into account my base and still continues to put me against players that are significantly better than me. Oh well, we'll see how it actually plays out when its in effect.

I think overall this is a positive change if things "work as intended" but in the test I didn't really feel that way, my matches were not that great and didn't feel any more fair.

Every single test has been misery on Killer.

I'm, unfortunately, good at the game. During the tests, I waited in queue's for an unholy amount of time, only to be matched up against the same teams who, even when I played perfectly, I was unable to best. The game isn't balanced in high MMR, and more importantly, it's extremely unfun for both sides. What's worse is that BHVR know this, have known this, and show no signs of doing anything about it.

I actually will have to say that my experience has been very similar to yours.

That being said, I am probably not even close to as good of a player as you are, but I still felt the same way - and I do believe that at least on Killer I am good enough of a player to ONLY be placed against the best of the best survivors queuing at the time, which is definitely not very fun, don't get me wrong, it can be fun, but I don't always want to be trying my hardest not to get completely crushed. It becomes too stressful to enjoy and takes me away from playing the game lol.

It has been nerfed months ago, it used to last 60 seconds, now it is 45 seconds

Oh okay, yeah I remember that, though honestly that's really not too much of a nerf.

I mean, sure it can take off the ability to chase/down a Survivor sometimes and THEN kick the gen and hook the new Survivor and kick another gen right after, which was nice, but I still almost always get that Pop kick in if I remember that I am running it!

My issue with Pop is that I always forget that I'm running it all together hahah xD
