Yeah I guess you are right.
But it seems so strange as the hook is a core mechanic of the game, I queue up as survivor with the understanding that I may spend the game hanging on a hook.
If that's the case I'd rather distract the killer all game with it than just hang there and die because nobody bothered to rescue me.
I mean, I would too. But this isn't an argument you can win logically, unfortunately.
It feels ######### to hang all game and not do anything else, so people want it removed.

It is STILL taking control of another person's game and you can find it in the report section in game.
Been watching it for a long time because my friends played and streamed it often. Only been playing for a couple months but if you're trying to imply I haven't seen enough to know it's a real problem then that would not be the case. Both experience and watching say it's clearly toxic because it's over used. They stopped survivors from vaulting for the same reason so why wouldn't they do the same for facers.
No it isn't. Do you really want me to get the link to the reportable offences page? They specifically say camping isn't reportable.
Define a long time. Obviously less than 3 years. You were completely unfamiliar with WHY Entity-blockers are a thing and no, it's not to stop Survivors from being toxic

I'm not talking about proxy camping either, in fact I don't think proxy camping exists, adding the hook to your gen patrol is just smart, as you can probably guarentee at some point there will be two survivors at the hook, that's half your opponents, to just up and run away from that is foolish.
The point I was making is that it doesn't matter when or how someone may start to camp you its just silly to assume its malicious and to get upset about it.
It is kinda crummy to hang on the hook for your whole game, but I think the solution is rather than call for punisments and convoluted new game mechanics why not just compensate the person on hook.
Lets say a generous BP counter that keeps ticking upwards if the killer is within 10-20m of the hook while you hang on it, emblem points for distracting the killer if they spend longer than X in the radius of the hook so you aren't downgrading as a result of being camped.
This is an idea that really doesn't punish anyone it just rewards people for being camped.
Well it may punish in that it undermines those who might camp meliciously by generously rewarding those they are camping.
Checks a lot of boxes I reckon - rewards people being camped, isn't really exploitable to the detriment of the killer, doesn't have to radically change the game design.
People will never go for that because it isn't about the Emblems or the BP to them.
They just don't want to spend the game on the hook.
No solution will satiate people unless it involves them not being on the hook.

The game did. Literally defines the behaviour as body blocking then in the fine print killers are allowed. That's toxic because of how much people use it and still devs ignore that it's a real problem for people who just wanna play a public match.
Also taking advantage of game mechanics but again killers get a pass which they should get penalized for if survivors do. At least on the facing which again, is the most interruptive and keeps one person from gaming but if we vault too much it'll get blocked. Same thing only killers don't get stopped from doing the same type of toxic as that.
Where does it say that? Can you show me? Facecamping isn't the same thing as bodyblocking, by the way. Bodyblocking is when a Survivor (or Killer) traps another Survivor in a position where they cannot escape from and they refuse to either down them or move. Hook camping is not even close to the same thing. You are extremely biased.
Yeah, if you vault too much, it gets blocked to prevent infinites.
How experienced are you in the game? No judgement or anything, just curious.
-
The ability to pressure Survivors quickly and quickly close distance in chases is paramount to success.
Nurse has her Blinks which offer her a movement ability and the best chase power in the entire game.
Spirit has good movement and perhaps the 2nd best chase power in the entire game, she closes the distance very fast and it takes a guess to outplay her.
Hag is just good at area denial and is able to get hits quickly if you are in her territory.
Blight has great movement, can traverse the map quickly and has a decent chase power.
Oni gets Billy's instant down with none of the drawbacks of Billy (no overheat or collision)
-
Top 5 is a weird ranking.
The top 3 are so massively different in power that it almost isn't fair to list them together. This is assuming strongest perks/add-ons and on the PTB version of the game (Spirit nerfs).
1.) Nurse
2.) Blight
3.) Spirit
(gap to illustrate the...well, gap between the top 3 and the bottom 2)
4.) Cenobite
5.) Hag or Huntress

Idk why it didn't quote like the last three people I talked to.
Because it prevents gameplay of a player, that makes the action toxic and taking advantage of game mechanics. Never had gens pop so fast that a killer didn't get to play.
Why is it toxic? Who defined it as such? I certainly didn't.
I've had 5 gens done in under 5 minutes. Does that count? I can give you a play-by-play of that match if you like, just so you can understand the helplessness of the situation.
The game isn't balanced around those types of players though. They are exceedingly rare. Just like actual facecampers.
Also, just for my own curiosity, no judgement, how long have you been playing?
-
I have no idea.
I've 'seen' (wink wink) a test that stressed someone's network into the 250 ms range and there didn't seem to be any validating going on.
It's definitely a big advantage for the Killer if their ping is bad.
-
I either get 10+ hooks or like, 3 max.
There seems to be no in-between.

I usually play in a group of 4 survivors, even with someone using Borrowed Time & having others run interference someone gets knocked down & hooked and is now being camped.
In other games, when we realize we’ve got a camper we stay on the hook as long as possible to allow the others to fix gens. At best, 1 of us might escape. Maybe. If they find the hatch or manage to open a gate. But those chances are as good as getting off the hook yourself.
I want to play a game and having killers just stand in front of me as I’m hooked is just so frustrating. There’s no competition, I just want to move on to the next round. When I’m playing solo I just kill myself so I can move on.
In the end, it’s a very unsatisfying round that we all just want to end and move on from.
What do you suggest be done about it?

NEVER played a match where that played out so trying that flimsy reasoning when toxic is way worse and ALSO prevents gameplay is reaching hard.
I have tons of perks that allow me to see survivors when gens get finished and have planned accordingly around stairs or buildings because my aim is trash. So unless you're admitting it's the only way for you to win then I'm not understanding your point.
You need to quote me if you want me to respond, just a heads-up.
How is it toxic?

I think that's a pretty big assumption though.
A lot of the toxicity in this game likely results from assigning malicious intent to the other side. To say that someone camping is motivated by ruining someone elses game is just blantantly assumptive.
There is no info on that player's motivation and making up a malicious scenario in the absence of facts to suit a pre-decided narrative is unproductive.
Half the time if I'm camping its because I've failed miserably to catch survivors and now need them to come to me and often it works so well because people get so tilted about it that their game goes out the window and you win.
The other half of the time is when I've gotten tired of the loopy nature of the game and make a basement build, those are some of the best games I've had actually with really gritty hook exchanges and close chases out the door.
It'l be hard to cook up "counters" to camping without neutering one playstyle that many people play.
We aren't discussing "proxy" camping.
We are talking about facecamping specifically. The people who get an early down and plant themselves like a tree and refuse to leave.
Those guys.

Yes and no. There's definitely been an upsurge in camping killers. At least in my games. I can't even be mad, it's what the system tells them to do.
I haven't noticed anything and I've been playing way more Survivor lately.
Although, my average match with a camping Killer is significantly longer than one without, on average. That could be something to track.

I'm sure there are a billion ways to make it bad for the killer to camp. Also just because the killers have an issue with camping deterrents doesn't mean the game is imbalanced... it means you need to leave the hook and find something else to do with your time.
If there's a billion ways, surely you could list a few.

Yeah, but the people doing it didn't care about pips.
Yeah, they play to ruin other people's experience.
Other than stopping them from killing people, you aren't going to deter them. Even if you do, they'll still find a way to try to ruin other people's days.
Luckily, the number of people actually doing that is about the same number as the amount of god squad SWF. People just like to whine when things don't go their way and exaggerate.
-
I got matched with a default Jake with 8 hours total on the game and a Nea who had 215 days played in the same match. My buddy and I both have 100 days.
The Killer has 250 days and was Console Nurse.
He got 1 hook and it was on Jake near the end.

Being allowed to play a game is literally the basic of basic. That's why the discussion is penalize them, if they want to keep doing it then that sounds like a killer problem for taking advantage of game mechanics.
Oh, like how Survivors can rush gens and deny the Killer the ability to play the game?
Is that taking advantage of game mechanics?
It is? I'm glad that we agree.

That's just it... you see people regurgitate a lot here. The "harsh penalty" is to dismiss your feelings entirely and just finish out the game. Who cares if that person on the hook wants to play or not, just finish the generators. Then everyone can move on.
Only that's not a penalty at all, much less a harsh one. A penalty should mean the killer is being denied something for holding a player hostage. That in itself should have never been possible for a killer to do.
There's simply no good way to make camping fun for the killer and survivors at the same time, either. One will suffer and the other will have to move on. Thankfully the killer has 3 other survivors to play with, but a survivor is stuck on a hook just spectating the game. One fix sounds a lot better than the other.
Find me a fix that doesn't massively imbalance the game.
Go ahead.

Harsh? Seriously? You have to be joking.
Before they swapped to MMR, yeah.
No BP, no Emblem points, no pip.
There's literally no way you can call that a win.
Play for BP? You get maybe 12K. Play for pips? No shot. Play for Kills? Two, maximum, unless the Survivors are dumb.

If they are caught doing things that interrupt gameplay like facing then they should have to face the consequences. Saying everything is already "too harsh" is a cop out for they contradict themselves by allowing killers to do it without any issue.
If they can't stop it then it should be against the rules so people can actually play.
I didn't say it was too harsh. Please read what I said again.
There is no way to punish facecamping that doesn't give Survivors an enormous advantage that they DO NOT NEED.

They didn't say it was a lost cause.
Iirc, they said they have something that looks possibly promising right now, but that it will probably end up like every single other facecamping punishing idea they've had.

I doubt this would work. Some people do it to ruin the fun for the person on the hook (preventing them from playing the game).
Penalizing them would not stop them either.
We already have a harsh penalty system. You think it works?
BHVR has said they've repeatedly tried and failed to create a suitable system to punish facecamping (and only facecamping) but have found that it allows the Survivors to have way too much power.
If BHVR knows something isn't going to work, it really isn't gonna work.

I camp and tunnel as the situation deems it necessary.
And I run it because people are dumb and go back for their item.

It isn't fun to lose in any game, but DBD kinda ramps that up.
If you lose, you'll likely be taunted in-game or post-game (like in your case).
This is humiliating and drives players to win absolutely at any cost. It's partly why Killer slug for the 4K. Nobody can taunt you in-game or shittalk you post-game if they all died.

My Nemesis games (who I have played EXTENSIVELY since he came out) are usually versus the same 3 or 4 teams.
I bought Pig, didn't level her up and immediately queue'd. Exact same teams as my Nemesis games.

I disagree with a smurf test I did, from player lvl1-10 I had nothing but sweats.
You can say that I did not do bad because I didn't but the fact that a new player can and will play against 3k+ hour players is not acceptable for casual players.
The current system should be horrible for newer or casual players since they do not have all perks unlocked.
If you lose 2 matches as survivor from the starting point you get paired up with, not to be rude but you get paired with bots so people will never get better like that.
Was this on a fresh account or just a new Killer
-
.....the game is balanced for casuals.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
Neither, because both ideas are bad.
There are A LOT more casual SWFs than Depip-Squads. But we all know that Killers need something to blame for, so they blame SWF. I wonder which big streamer started this trend...
I play in a very casual SWF.
I'm most certainly the worst one there. There are three of us, two of them (not me) are good loopers but one has a crippling addiction to flashlight saves. We still win 85% of our games. That's a very small sample size, but it demonstrates my point.
This game is not designed around people communicating. Even very casual call-outs like "Hey, the Killer stopped chasing me and went in your general direction" or "Yeah, he's still on me" or "He's sitting next to hook, do gens and leave" impact the game massively and pretending that they don't is simply false.
I don't think nerfing SWF is the answer. We need to buff Solo Q players and equip them with the same information that SWF gets access to. We also need to buff Killers afterwards. Again, I don't think nerfing SWF is an appropriate decision, but pretending like they aren't a problem is like pretending Nurse is balanced.

I do play killer actually and have been red rank on both for a good few years now (not that ranks matter but the same people that try to "main this" "main that" typically go for rank when they've been proven wrong there).
I'm saying it's EXPECTED that you lose a few gens before you get your first hooks. Do you really have to have everyone death hook before the firat gen pops? If it upsets you so much just use corrupt to mitigate it.
I assume you're new enough (no offence)? DbD is far easier now to play killer than it has ever been so I assume if you weren't around for actual infinites, 2 window shack, etc. where good killers were still able to 4k and didn't blame "gen rush"...
Nobody is saying everyone should be death hook by the first gen's completion. That's a strawman argument and you know it.
What people are saying is that having one hook (1/12 of the Killer's objective) by the time 3 gens are done (3/5 of the Survivors objective) is ludicrous.

If you had posted this on Wednesday I would also have said, "and do you remember how you could get a good 3 gen prepared only for three people to effectively DC via the jumping in the hatch and then get bonus points for doing so)

And as it turns out, there's basically no individual Killer MMR.
