Let's not bring back widely unbalanced mechanics.

I think a lot of this comes from what killer you play, since if I play a killer that is higher in terms of balancing, like say Plague or Blight, I will have consistent decent kill rates. It also matters how you play the game in itself obviously, which by all means, I am not the best killer.
Just seems that in order to get anywhere above two kills, even as some of the highest killers at higher ranks, I have to sweat extremely hard. I did get very very very poor maps today as killer as well, which may be why I am noticing them a lot more today than I usually do.
I play a lot of Killers.
Nemesis, Blight, Pinhead, Artist, Demogorgon, Wraith, Doctor and Legion.
I'm currently keeping a 3.85 average Kill Rate with a 9 hook average.
But DBD is nothing if not inconsistent.
-
We've tried to talk about it.
Little has been done.
Does this post I made sum up my issues with massive problems going relatively unfixed and promises being broken?
@Pulsar said:
Recently, it's been getting more and more difficult to enjoy this game and to look over the glaring issues. The Console port of DBD has shown that the game is extremely poorly optimized, and performance will continue to get worse unless BHVR addresses the issues now.
I fear that soon, the game will become unplayable for us on current-gen Consoles. Resident Evil broke the game for a month, and it still hasn't fully recovered. What this shows is that the issue is built into the game itself, and will likely continue to worsen if it is not resolved. Likewise, we are seeing the return of bugs long thought patched, which makes me suspect that the entire code is starting to crumble under the weight of the game. I hope BHVR takes the time to do this correctly and fixes their game. If they do not, I fear we will soon lose the ability to play it at all.
Here are some videos demonstrating my points, please note that these were all taken PRIOR to the RE patch in June of 2021. These issues have been plaguing Console players since the game was ported in 2017. I doubt there will ever be an official confirmation from BHVR, but it is important that we do not let these issues go silently. The only thing we can do is continue to talk and spread awareness about them.

August Edit: Well, we are nearing 100 pages. Congrats everyone. We still haven't gotten an answer from BHVR about what happened to Optimization, but we have inspired others to start to question it. I've furthered clarified the purpose of the thread and adjusted some of the language used in this opening statement to better reflect that.
Thank you.
-
To be honest, whilst my games have become massively more unpleasant, I haven't noticed a dip in my kill rates.
I'm still managing to keep my averages high, though lower than they were before MMR. I have a certain standard I hold myself to and I seem to be doing well sticking to it, even if it is unpleasant.

I know they changed adept for only killers for some reason many times but i literally did exactly what it wants and its still not enough? like is playing adept bubba not enough do i need to equip insidious, bubba's fourth perk, on my fourth slot? Please someone explain. please

This, Anytime CoH is up or multiple CoH, don't try an wound then leave them, Wound, Tunnel, or else they will just be off for there free uber self care.
CoH makes me very happy on Legion.
Not very happy on anyone else though.
-
I mean yeah, it's not super fun to be tunneled.
I had a Legion, then a Bubba who just caught me and planted themselves on hook and kept smacking me until I died.
That's not very fun, tbh.

Honestly I believe the Killer should ALWAYS have the upper hand Period. The flashlight thing is getting way out of hand and I feel like having to waste a perk slot to counter that is RIDICULOUS. That being said Dead Hard should get MASSIVELY nerfed super crutch is more the term I'd use. I main Cenobite and 9/10 times get all 4 but lately with the OVERLY AGGRESSIVE exploiting of collision detection i.e. standing in front of hooks, crawling in front of windows etc. Is getting WAY out of hand they need to strike a better balance toward the killer survivors should have to work for the escape not just get it because they fought for a defensive hit to pad their bloodpoints.
If you 4K 9 out of 10 times, that means the Survivor are winning at most 10% of the time.

You can definitely get bad teammates regardless of your own individual skill.
You can also get people that carry the team regardless of your own individual skill.
I like the variety, personally, and can usually perform well enough to make the match worthwhile, both in terms of BP and Fun.
I do have a couple of casual friends that I play with at times (games with them are usually harder than my solo games) and a 'hit squad' that I very, very, very rarely play with because the gameplay is not fun (for me) at all given how they play.
I enjoy the dynamic nature of my matches. Solo and Killer are the best ways to achieve that.
If anyone needs a friend to play with or whatever, I'm always down.
I literally don't care about how good/bad you are as long as it enhances your game/fun and you have a good time :)
I dislike the variety, because it means my own skill matters very little.
-
Solo Q is a total crapshoot.

AAAAAAAA
Please guys it isn't FNAF....we already know it is Ringu

Yeah, I think the general consensus has been "we like the effort, just maybe try to not have it break several Killers powers next time."

That could be a case for shortening the penalties, sure. Turning them off? Still a hard no from me. There could be a middle ground that can tell the difference between someone who DCs too often and someone who's the victim of DDOSing, as it is extremely unlikely that you're going to be DDOS'd with that kind of consistency. In fact, I wouldn't believe that claim from anyone short of a mega-popular streamer without documented proof laid out first.
When i was on Xbox One, I got hit off about once a week.

Don't put words in my mouth, you're better than that. I think it's a harder choice than you all like to posit, and I'm certain you read my earlier post where I outlined that choice. Far more people would have games ruined by DC'ers than by DDOSers.
And let's just say you are being DDOS'd, and you get disconnected, and take the penalty. That penalty is minutes, would you really try to play another game if you're still being DDOS'd?
Except those penalties stack.
If it were just 5 minutes, that'd be one thing.
But you can get penalties that last DAYS

I disagree. Not based on any intellectual merits, but simply because you proposed an ultimatum that is false. They can leave things as are, which is the most likely course of action, and just so happens to be what I think is the most logical.
Obviously I would love them to protect our IP addresses more, but that would be icing, and honestly expecting too much from them.
So you think it's acceptable that people are being punished for something they did not have any control over?
Good to know.
-
There's only two ways forward.
Either BHVR stops punishing innocent players for DC'ing when there's a hacker (or being forcibly disconnected)
OR
They disable the penalties.
-
@foxsansbox said:
No. Removing the DC rule would be abused beyond reason. I already have survivors intentionally DC'ing to repeatedly deny my Myer's 4 Kill Tombstone achivement.
I get where you're coming from, but removing the DC penalty invalidates large portions of this game.
Edit: There is still leverage if the penalty no longer exists. That current game is ruined.
I disagree.

You said the survivor was blocking you in a doorway, not running to a loop.
You realize the survivor can't get to a loop while they're blocking you in a doorway right?
I'm pretty sure they can start running. They aren't being blocked, after all

Waiting 12 seconds and watching the unhooked survivor panic as they realize they're about to have a very short match.
You realize 12 seconds can get you to a loop easily right?
They'll be just fine if they want to be.
EDIT: That's also assuming the Killer hits them the instant BT wears off. Not before and not after.

Sorry but it's not a legit strategy when the killer only gets 1k with 2 hooks (at best). That isn't playing the game, it is idling at the hook. They might as well be afk at that point.
A real strategy would suggest the killer wants to win (I.E. PLAY THE GAME). The game isn't downing your first survivor and then standing still for the remainder. That isn't Dead by Daylight.
Oh, you're talking about facecamping

Every time I see someone say the box "can't" spawn near survivors, I have to share the story where the box spawned literally in the middle of shack, during an active chase in shack, with all the survivors running around the shack.
My personal favorite incorrect take from a killer standpoint is that the Tombstone Piece is a perfectly balanced add-on and in no way poorly designed or significantly stronger than most other purple add-ons.
My top two "excuse me?" takes are that:
1. Cheating is completely excusable and justified because it's "just a game, bro lmao."
2. The devs never listen or try new things, which is kind of a silly idea because they do test a multitude of things that we never see or hear about. I mean, doesn't mean that they're right about everything, necessarily--but they're not completely incompetent.
Well, pallets aren't supposed to be able to spawn next to each other, but they sure do sometimes.
The game is a buggy mess, things are gonna break from time to time.

So until Camping is properly dealt with, why shouldn't people try to block if the killer is Camping?
I don't see any good reason not to. They deserve it at that point.
Probably because camping is a legit strategy.
Forcing the Killer into a lose-lose situation is a legit strategy, but I don't believe it should be.
It's like telling a group of Solo Survivors to go cleanse 5 totems (which will probably take 3 minutes at least) on the assumption that the Killer may have NOED. It just isn't right. They lose no matter what.
-
Congratulations!
I remember when I first got to Iri 1 (or Rank 1 lmao). That was almost 3 years ago, I think.
As of things I am proud of, uh, I dunno.
I hit Iri I with both Killer and Survivor this month. I played against two streamers that I really respect within an hour of playing on the Series X. I finished the last of my GM adepts.

TBF you can also body block (as killer) the recently unhooked at that same doorway and wait BT out just to down them again...
and that isn't good game design either. Not to mention if the killer was already putting themselves in that situation by Camping just to force a trade.
Two bad game designs in one.
Correct.
Remove the collision and that solves that issue.
Also, BT doesn't exclusively punish camping. I normally see it used to facilitate unsafe unhooks, for example, I hook someone, turn away and they get unhooked.
I sure as hell wasn't camping.

Either smack the survivor that was unhooked or try to get past them. Survivors don't always successfully body block. We shouldn't nerf things just because they are useful. It's not broken or OP at all. It's okay for both sides to have good perks in the game.
Oh yeah, tell me more about how standing in a doorway so that I can't go after the guy who unhooked you is good game design.
It's a lose-lose and it needs to go.
-

@Grandpa_Crack_Pipe said:
That's the same idea I had a while ago, and it turns out that what the game considers a protection hit is very, very generous.
IE, generous enough to make the perk useless.
Just remove collision from the person with BT while it's in effect so they can't bodyblock you.
I've always thought BT should work on a time AND distance based system.
For example, "When a Killer has remained within X meters of a Survivor for more than X seconds, Borrowed Time will apply the Endurance status to the unhooked Survivor.

The question was essentially “I get stressed playing killer. What are you going to do to make me less stressed?” And the answer to being less stressed is “take a break”.
That is not how I interpreted it.
I saw "Killer can be very stressful, do you have any plans to improve the overall experience?"
Is that not the question many are still asking today?
-
@dugman said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2694119#Comment_2694119
No, the question was “I’m feeling very stressed playing killer and I’m not enjoying it like I used to. What are your plans to improve the killer experience.” Cote answered under that context of the questioner being stressed and giving advice to take a break from killer since they’re feeling that way. It wasn’t simply a question about plans for killers with no other context, it had a multi-sentence preamble about being stressed and burned out on killer.
And he ignored the part that actually asked the question.

It is simple.
The door's right there. The game's feelings won't be hurt, it hasn't sunk addictive chemicals into your bloodstream, and nothing stops you from coming back when things are actually better.
Right click, uninstall, confirm.
The only hitch in this process is people turning themselves right back around after convincing themselves otherwise because they don't actually hate the game as much as they say they do.
So are we just completely ignoring how I explained why it is not that simple?
Because if we are, that's fine.

Just some people were foolish and jumped to their own narrative. First time I saw this clip I just saw it as sound advice and common sense - couldn't see how it could have been logically misinterpreted.
For all the faults, this is a great game, and the real, painful factor that makes this game unenjoyable is mainly the minority of players who make it horrid for others: the hackers, BM'ers, whingers, etc.. And what makes this more scary is this will affect any game. VHS, Friday 13th, Prop Night, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, whatever - all of those games will have the same problem with no exception. And yes, developers can take steps tp reduce this, but ultimately players have to take responsibility.
I didn't see it the way you did. How could anyone have possibly misconstrued this statement?
Maybe Mr. Cote meant it in a nice and helpful way, but when the question asks "Do you have any plans or ideas on how you would like to improve the Killer experience?" and you respond with "Maybe try Survivor for a bit or play something else for a week" it doesn't look great.

Sounds like an abusive relationship.
"It's usually pretty bad, but sometimes it's great, so if I stick around long enough things will hopefully get better"
It just sound like justifying the addiction. Either you have the self-responsibility to quit when you're clearly miserable or you don't.
Perhaps.
I think it's good advice to quit something you hate, but saying it's simple is simply wrong.

Considering how many times I've seen people claim the devs said something, and then backed it up with a clip or screenshot of them saying something completely different, I'm sure you'll forgive me for not believing that first part without evidence. As for the second part, sure, I'd buy it's compounding the issue, but the issue is still a different thing, it'd be a problem regardless of what the matchmaking is- it was a problem with the rank system, and that was garbage.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2694031#Comment_2694031
Not long before, but still before- there's a period where they were collecting data before MMR went live, is my point.
As for the rest, that's an interesting experiment- I do already know the difference isn't stark enough for new killers, but if something like that can be replicated and isn't a weird glitch or one off, it'd be pretty huge.
I did it with Pig too, if that helps.
-
@jesterkind said:
Surely the fact that getting better at a killer makes the games much harder is more a problem with the game's balancing, rather than the MMR system?
Also, to your other point- your Hag's MMR would be based on the data they collected prior to the MMR being released, the only way you'd get the fresh-start MMR (which isn't fully neutral, since that'd be a bit unfair to pair someone who knows how to play Killer in general against newbies) would be if you haven't played that Killer at all before.
That's also not true.
They deleted all of that data and started fresh not long before MMR went live, iirc.
Also, I disproved that. I bought Freddy and took him into a game after I had played a Nemesis game, someone who I have become very very good with. My Nemesis game was against a pretty good SWF, definitely above average, even from what I usually play against.
Level 1 Freddy, no perks, haven't even opened the BloodWeb and I got matched with the exact same team.
There is no individual Killer MMR, and if there is, it is next to meaningless.
-
If they manage to nerf Legion, the weakest Killer, I'm gonna riot.
