I'd 100% agree with you on this. I'm definitely of the opinion, after seeing how things work during different times of the day over hundreds of matches as survivor and killer, that lobby wait times takes precedent over anything and everything else -- which is a shame, since that's NOT what we were promised with SBMM.
It basically just means they spent two years developing a system that works the exact same as the old one.

Sea of Thieves was considered bad? Interesting. But I recall it getting sizeable attention even back then...
I thought No Man's Sky was still ######### but maybe not.
The others I don't know about but I will trust you.
No Man's Sky is much better, from what I'm told.
SoT may not have been bad but it was lacking content. There was basically nothing to do.
I can personally vouch for both BF4 and Battlefront II.

That may all be true, but it can't always go the way you want it to.
You specifically said to focus on my enjoyment.
Those are the two parts of the game I enjoy the most. I'm sure many other people enjoy them too.
When my ability to experience those things is hampered by unfair or unfun mechanics, I am generally in favor of looking into why that is.

I think the removal of the stand still mind game was enough to remove what was fun for her. People may still find her unfun but she’s not really imbalanced anymore. She may struggle at high level comp but honestly every killer except maybe Nurse has no chance anyway.
Balance (or perceived balance) doesn't matter.
If people complain about something enough, it will get nerfed.
Except NOED, apparently

That means you only have fun when things are going your way, or ? sad
Chasing people is fun. I cannot chase if the game is over after 1 chase.
Being chased is fun. I cannot be chased when Bubster plants his cheeks in front of me.

Ironically enough, regarding FF14, it was a game that was considered bad on release but has been worked on by the devs to become so popular.
It ends up showing that legendarily bad games could make these kinds of insane comebacks. (And yes, I know it's Final Fantasy, that it took years, and the devs are SE, they have money and popularity to withstand things, but STILL)
No Man's Sky
Sea of Thieves
Battlefield 4
Battlefront II
-
Honestly, I'm pretty sure they'll nerf her again.
I stick by my original statement, the nerf only hurt players who played her at the HIGHEST level. It did nothing to address what the casual player found unfun.
-
I'm pretty sure MMR is balanced to whoever is sitting in queue for the longest amount of time.
That SWF was probably in queue for 10 minutes, so the matchmaker just stuck them with the first available Killer (you) and ignored the possible differences in skill in favor of starting a match.

I'd...love to see someone pull this off. Otz style - so no addons etc.
But until someone manages it - I doubt it's possible. He loses games all the time now on killer, some of them pretty convincingly.
Oh no, I'll use strongest add-ons and the strongest perks.
Survivors won't be limiting themselves, so why should I?

Oof. No.
I'm Iri 1 on killer. So are the best killers in the world.
I've been playing killer for maybe 270 hours. I've got bad eyes, crap reflexes and get distracted by passing clouds.
Grade isn't rank and it's certainly not MMR. It's not easy to gain at the highest grades - sure - but it's even harder to lose. All you need is one short streak and you've leaped up another grade, and you can't depip past that level, so eventually you get another streak, even if you lose 20 games before it happens.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2684539#Comment_2684539
I'm...somewhat reluctant in accepting the opinions of ultra high MMR monsters when it comes to SBMM, as ranks benefitted them directly at the expense of everyone else.
Under ranks, as killers had virtually no matchmaking protections, high MMR killers were put up against a huge range of survivors, and vice versa. This was great for the high MMR players...not so great for everyone else.
It's where those '100 win streak' videos came from. Those won't be happening under SBMM, and there's a reason for that.
I can definitely still get a 100 win streak.
It'd just be slightly harder and would take more patience

Interesting stats.
Did you or your mates (if swf) run any totem or boon perks in these games? And how many times did NOED got triggered?
Do you think there were times where you lost but you COULD have survived if your team DIDNT cleansed totems that ,,much"?
I ran Small Game. That's it. I needed it to keep track of the totems. NOED was proc'd 26 times. Out of those times, we successfully stopped it twice. Once by cleansing all 5 prior to the gens being finished, once by someone luckily finding the totem.
Yeah, I think a lot of the games where we got 4K'd we probably could've forced a 2K if we hadn't been cleansing totems. It's just such a time-sink and not worth the effort in most games.

i still would love to hear your experience in these games.
Alright.
In my 104 Survivor games:
5 totems were cleansed 6 times. Out of those 6, 4 were in a Trio SWF.
0 totems were cleansed 3 times, all of these occurred in Solo Q.
1 totem was cleansed 11 times.
2 totems were cleansed 32 times.
3 totems were cleansed 31 times.
4 totems were cleansed 21 times.
The most common Killer was Bubba. There were a lot. Most of them had NOED.
Anything in particular you want to know?

I agree with you: perks, add-ons, survivor-comp, maps, etc all contribute to the chances of each side winning. I also agree that this game will never be perfectly balanced. I do think we can both agree that average kills vs escapes (over a long period of time) can give us a clue as to how balanced the game currently is and is possibly the only way to get any idea on balance.
I disagree.
A 2K at 4 hooks with NOED is different then a 2K with 10 hooks.
Yet, according to those Kill Rates, those matches are the exact same.

The problem isn't that BT exist. BT exist because killers gravitate toward the hook instead of chasing another survivor. If you aren't at the hook, you would never even notice BT. And let's be truthful know BT doesn't guarantee a safe hook, if a killer just follows until BT fades, what happens?
BT and DS (post-nerf) are 2 perks that exist solely to make sure 1st hook isn't end of game for that player. The fact that 2 perks are required to do this is a testament to some of the core issues with DBD. But fixing this would require a total rework the hook mechanic.
But there's a reason why the screenshot doesn't include the end result of the match. My guess is that most of the survivors still died.
Of course I'll return to hook if I see them going for it. Who wouldn't lmao
My issue with BT comes when Survivors body-block when they have it. I also don't like the design of the perk, I think it promotes bad plays and rewards people for it.

It doesn't though. Up further in this discussion is the kill-rates posted by BHVR itself. And if you look at it, it shows the Killers as having a little above 50% kill rate on average, slightly leaning toward the Killer side.
I don't doubt that high level SWF play can beat high level Killer play, but that's the exact same as discounting what Otz is saying, because he is a professional.
And I'm pretty sure we've had discussions on why those Kill Rates are completely unusable in any serious argument.

Killers resort to those tactics because of survivors
Unlikely.
-
Low-MMR Survivors have always (and likely will always) have a terrible time because Killer is undeniably OP at that skill bracket.
The game is not unwinnable at high MMR. Unfun? Sure. Unwinnable? No.
Survivor is the less stressful role, however.
-
@Munqaxus said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2682930#Comment_2682930
I guarantee I can find several examples of where a Killer-player posted some streamer video suggested survivors are OP and almost everyone agrees with them. Yet you have the exact opposite happen and almost everyone on the forum disagrees.
Heck, I've seen it where someone will post a single screenshot of one match and almost everyone on the forum will agree survivors are OP.
Because one of those checks out math-wise. If Survivors play well, the match is theirs to lose. That doesn't mean Killers don't have a shot, but it does mean they rely on Survivor mistakes in order to win.
Killer is for sure OP at lower MMR though. No doubt about it.

- Unbreakable - Killers want to be able to slug you without you being able to counter it.
- Borrowed Time - Killers want to facecamp you without being able to counter it.
- Decisive Strike - Killers want to tunnel you without you being able to counter it.
I wish Killers realized that survivors aren't using a meta perks because they want to, they are using meta-perks to counter uncounterable tactics killers use. You literally can't do anything about slugging unless you bring a perk. You can't do anything about face-camping without a perk. You can't do anything about tunneling without a perk.
Survivors are using these perks because they have to. Otherwise they'll be sitting on a hook looking at Leatherface revving his chainsaw.
Borrowed Time doesn't counter facecamping lol.
It just makes sure every unhook is safe. That's it.
-
I dropped a pallet on Bubba and was facecamped for the whole game.

Nah.
It's more when people try to use him as an example that the game isn't balanced.
That's like setting a comp team loose in pubs and saying "look look, every Survivor needs nerfed."
Otz isn't a comp player, but he is good. He plays everyday and it is his job. He is not the norm.

argument doesn't work when you can win without tunneling or slugging anyone but not doing gens doesn't progress the game. Interesting take though!
Sure, you could win without slugging or tunneling, that relies on Survivors being significantly worse than you though.
You could also win without looping if the Killer was bad enough.
-
"Don't try to win and you won't see any of those perks."
How about a Survivor version?
Don't do gens and don't loop and you won't see Ruin, Bamboozle, NOED, PGTW or Deadlock :)

That's not how desync works. He lost control of his character. That's client-sided. Anything else that happens around is going to be random through interpolation and rolls back because the client is getting info from the server.
edit: *isn't getting info from the server.
I see no evidence of the OP losing control of their character.

Look closer. After the swing, the killer's camera gets janky and gets locked skipping frames. Same for his movement. It's not the survivor who lagged out.
No.
The item disappears when she tries to vault.
If he was having an issue connecting to the server, the item would not have disappeared. She simply would have kept running into the wall. Likewise, he does not revert to his original position as one would expect if the connection to the server was funky.
Therefore, the connection issue was on the Survivors end.

Well damn, yeah I mean there is almost no point in breaking totems unless you are scared of noed (not you but people in general) and with boons I don't see why people would bother breaking.
That is interesting in a way, to see how many totems get done during a lot of games.
I stopped taking stats after this chapter dropped. Too many booners and not enough totem warriors.
Yeah, it was more to see if the whole "just do bones lmao" argument was practical.
Spoiler alert, it is not. At least, not in Duo or Solo Q. I could definitely manage it in a 3 or 4 man tho.

Well, as an opinion that I highly respect on the forums, I will concede to your experience.
I don't play that way anymore, so I know my games are more chill ,but, all winnable.
But, if you face constant teams of survivors with the skillset of say an Ayrun, then I imagine it would be quite difficult. But how do you balance around just these two playstyles alone? And I'm sure there are many more.
High MMRers may have no choice but to play this way, because if balanced for high mmr it would kill the game for chill casual players.
If anything, I'd say adjust gen speeds to correlate with higher MMR players.
Oh, no, I didn't want you to concede to my experience. I was merely sharing my own experiences. Everyone is different, but thank you for the very kind words <3
We can't balance around high MMR. That will kill the game, no question. But we can balance the game for high MMR.
Think of it this way. Why doesn't Nurse dominate the low Ranks? Because she takes a lot of muscle memory and has a steep learning curve. She's simultaneously the strongest Killer in the game and can compete at the highest MMR, yet she doesn't destroy casual or new players.
Another example, why doesn't Dead Hard get value in lower MMR? Because when Jake panic Dead Hard's into a wall, it doesn't really matter. He gets no value from his perk. But at high MMR, the Nea who uses it to extend a loop another 20 seconds may have just won the game.
-
There's also RPD, but considering how much everyone hates that map, it would be better off being deleted.
For the 3 RPD enjoyers, it is a pretty map. It is also a pretty bad map.

Yeah, per trial it might an average of like 2 tops no?
But damn what you are trying to do sounds extremely painful to do.
It's 3, probably because I hunt those totems with Small Game. Thankfully, Small Game also tells me if someone else broke one.
In 104 games, I have seen 5 totems cleansed 5 times.

104 of breaking totems? That actually sounds painful.
I'm also taking stats on the most used perks in my region which is quite a lot, probably might take a break.
But I mean you have proof even if it is notes, not to be rude to the OP but I can also say what I said earlier and without proof people either will call me out or believe me.
Yeah, it was born from a desire to see how many totems get broken on average in a trial.
It's not 5 I'll tell you that much.

Granted, it's hard to provide proof.
I'm taking stats (I have 104 games rn) of my Survivor experience with cleansing totems.
I haven't recorded 104 games and I doubt anybody would watch all of them to verify I'm not lying. All I have is the notebook I took down the stats in.
-
@Clevite said:
Honestly, it's what I said all along. The game is sided towards experience. The longer you play the better you get.
The balance is pretty good right now. Really good experienced killers are doing just fine. More casual players whom think they are really good are not, and hence, a vocal minority.
As a very experienced Killer, I am in P A I N
The game is ######### miserable at higher MMR. Do I 4K most of my matches? Yes. That's not what I am arguing.
The high-skill experience of this game is the antithesis of fun. It takes the fun part and skillful part of the game (chases) and makes it something that will cost you the match for participating in.
-
Survivor is much lower stress than Killer and does take significantly less skill to be good.
It's not skill-less it just takes less skill for a more enjoyable experience.

You don't need a map. Just have a general knowledge of where totems spawn and keep an eye out for dull totems during the match. In the endgame, do a circuit of the dulls you've found, and any ex-boons. If it glows, it goes.
I've been seeing way more NOED since SBMM was implemented and I successfully defuse them about 75% of the time. When I don't, it's often because my teammates cleansed the dulls I'd located and NOED spawned on that one totem I was clueless about. Or I was the first one to be hit.
I've taken stats for 104 games in Solo and Duo Q as I've run a totem hunting build (Small Game).
5 totems have been cleansed just 5% of the time. Most of the time, it's 3-4 totems cleansed.
-
Not a counter, just helps make the counter easier. But it's still totally ridiculous to expect Solo Q players to cleanse 5 totems.
NOED needs some changes. Before people come at me with pitchforks, note how I did not say nerf.

People said it would be overpowered and to strong and then complain about how the game is unfun for killers. With the way killer is right now would it really hurt just to make exposed work on M2 attacks?
Yes, because you'd just be masking the issue.

Maybe you should play Survivor first before you go onto Rants what should be nerfed.
Killer is harder than Survivor, but this should be expected. It would be unsreasonable that the "1" in the 1v4 has it easier...
For me, Survivor is more stressful, but easier. Because I tend to be annoyed by Teammates a lot. If I play Killer I at least know that I am the idiot.
I simply expect my teammates to get me killed.
If they don't, I'm pleasantly surprised. If they do, I expected as much.
