That area is pretty significantly larger than sixteen metres, though, and again- if he's chasing a survivor, which is the thing he's meant to be doing inside his territory, the anti-FC system is weakened considerably. Nothing's changed about Trapper being territorial, he just has to be active within his territory, which isn't meaningfully a nerf if you play him skilfully.
As for the speed boost, pair it with the Coffee Grounds addon and a setting speed addon and see how laughable it actually is. It's not nothing, it helped quite a bit on the PTB.
Ah, so Trapper is weak because people are not skillful enough.
-
They are likely laughing at you on comms. This is the perfect game if some friends want to bully someone.
This behavior has only escalated over time. As Killer you should feel like a threat, now you feel like are swinging a whiffle bat and are there to be antagonized for their amusement.

Doctor, Sadako, and Merchant are all killers who became more viable after their reworks
Dont know what youre on about that they got nothing in return
All 3 are still weak M1 Killers. I do not see how this is debatable.

This new update is going to reduce the numbers of killers in the game. Survivors will not switch to killers because they understand that this upcoming update is in survivors' favor. I am really not looking forward for this update to go live because I already have a bad feeling that the queue times for survivors are going to increase drastically which will only make my friends play less and less.
You are going to see people here mock that this has been said for years. I think this is different.
Most casual Killers don’t know the specific changes that are happening. They don’t know about MFT or increased Survivor vault distance. What they do know is that it is way harder to catch Survivors. They finally get one, 3 gens done, they camp, what else are they going to do? Survivor unhooks self throwing some tbags as they gain distance. Rest of the gens finish, other Survivors can body block unhooked Survivor, tbag party at the gate. Do you really think that killer is going to load into another game?
Just wait till they add their solution to 3 genning and I doubt their anti-slugging plan has been disbanded.
-
@jesterkind said:
I don't think preventing any killer from camping should be considered a direct nerf to them, to be fair.
Besides, you get the snowball pressure from survivors stepping in the traps you set around the hook, so as long as that's happening the anti-FC mechanic is already moving a lot slower. Also, he did get buffs in this patch that, provided they aren't weakened from the PTB, do make him stronger for things other than camping.
He’s a territorial Killer. Usually focusing traps on a certain area. A trapped Survivor will likely be placed on a nearby hook creating a radius in his territory that needs to be avoided. A small speed boost when placing traps is a laughable “buff.”

Non competent players get crushed by competent players.
A competent Trapper vs a competent SWF. What now?

It's not so one sided really.
Can’t take you seriously with calling Sadako’s changes a “giga buff.”

The rework, at minimum, did exactly what killers requested about her kit: survivors are forced to interact with the tapes.
Before the rework, the ideal survivor gameplay was to ignore the TV's in nearly every scenario. The only exception was to disable a TV near a hooked survivor to prevent an instant tunnel, or in rare cases actually clear your condemn stacks.
Now survivors basically are forced to grab a tape as soon as possible or are punished for ignoring it.
It was a killer request to make the tapes actually matter, and it's been a long standing killer request to give survivors a 'second objective', which interacting with the TV's does as well.
Calling the sadako rework a 'survivor request' is completely backwards, at best. If she was such a 'weak m1 killer', who you could literally ignore her power, isn't that the exact type of killer people claim survivors 'want to face for easy matches'? This is just blaming survivors for, I don't even know what at this point. Sadako is arguably easier to use and more effective post rework.
You grab a tape and counteract the power for the rest of the game. Not very interactive, even for the straw-men Killer players that you made up.
You make it sound like countering Sadako’s Condemned is now anything more than a minor inconvenience. Then she is an M1 Killer with even her “stealth” ruined by a lullaby.

Sadako is.
A lot of those Killers were GOOD when they got their reworks, but the last true rework prior to Sadako was over a year ago. Metas evolve. It's why a Killer like Myers, once considered to be a strong and ideally balanced Killer, is now considered weak
In no way is Sadako A-tier. Fair enough metas change, perhaps they should update the Killers with it.

Bubba got just nerfed in PTB his ability to down survivors with endurance quickly was nerfed. Survivors has now 0,5s immunity. Camping nerf will ofcourse really hurt him. Bubba should be buffed now. He is easiest killer to loop and one of the most punishing killers to play when making mistake. Chainsaw tantrum time should be reduced significantly or removed and then hitting object's should only slow down him.
The vault “bug” being “fixed” giving Survivors extra distance was a major hit to his viability as well.
-
@Pulsar said:
Doctor was weak and felt terrible to play.
Legion was awful to play as and against with the 2nd worst design in DBD.
Freddy was horrifically weak.
Bubba was horrible.
Ghostface was weak.
Sadako was weak.
Oh yeah, lot of just horrible reworks there that made Killers worse.
Oh wait
All those Killers get crushed by competent Survivors. You make it sound like they were buffed to A-tier.

The pattern doesn't exist. If a Killer needs to be toned down for some reason, then they are. However, the majority of Killer reworks aim to improve the usefulness and quality of life for the Killer.
Wraith, Doctor, Bubba, Clown, Legion, Plague, Ghostface, Demo, Trickster and Sadako were all purely to boost the quality/strength of playing the killer. That's not even mentioning the smaller tweaks to some killers.
I don't know what your conspiratorial line of thinking aims to achieve, to be honest. Do you have a victim complex? Do you just want to stir the pot? Either way, it's really not a great outlook to have on these things.
BHVR aren't out to get you for playing a certain role, and BHVR certainly didn't release this skin as a last-minute cashgrab. It was in the works before the rework and they will most likely Buff her in the coming updates anyway.
I’m sure they will buff her down the road, just like Freddy and Myers.
There’s no conspiracy, it’s business. Survivors make up many more players, so they have to be kept happy. If they run into strats that bother them, they may not buy cosmetics. That said, Killer’s experience needs focus too. If things keep going how they are (Survivor queues are already long), there will not be many Killers left. The anti-camping mechanic is going full steam ahead and I have very little doubt more will be done to prevent tunneling.
The ones that remain will be those who don’t put up much of a fight and accept losing from the get go. You ever play against multiple friendly Killers? Gets boring real fast.
It is a delicate balance and I feel like BHVR is doing a dreadful job.
-
@Steakdabait said:
Yes, it turns out when there's abusive, unintended strats that come out of the design of a killer guess who has to deal with it? The survivors. This post would be like if i said that dead hard was nerfed due to killer frustration.
Dead Hard was the way it was for years, now we have MFT which is not being touched despite wide spread Killer criticism.
@HugTechLover said:
It’s not like the frustration isn’t warranted. Who in their right mind thinks 3 gen SM is healthy for the game?
Never said it was, that said they should compensate so she is viable. They remove the ability to conduct the strat without making their power strong in a new way.

Doctor and Sadako were reworked to improve how they played for the Killer side primarily.
Also Trapper is literally getting buffed next week, with more tweaks to come in the near future. I don't think that's exactly being "left to rot".
A small speed boost when he puts down his traps? Still needs to collect his traps as always. It is a bone thrown to a killer left to rot. He is outdated and in need of a complete rework.
Bur the pattern remains, Killers usually only get reworks if they have a play style that bothers Survivors.

Listen I've made a lot of negative comments about the state of DBD. But I've noticed that a lot of streamers recently (and friends) have quit DBD. I have friends with 10k+ hours that's quitting now and like the game just isn't that enjoyable anymore.
I don't know about yall opinions but even back in the days with infinites, stretched res, dead hard the game was more enjoyable. Killer is just way too easy now I mean I play without perks and win basically all my matches. SoloQ isn't fun either you lose matches due to bad teammates. My point is the game doesn't need to be super balanced. It isn't a competitive game and while I agree that infinites and that shouldn't be a thing I still found it more enjoyable playing against meta builds back in 2017 - 2020 and losing than I do now when I'm winning basically EVERY SINGLE MATCH.
I don't care if you agree with my opinion or not, but if you have played DBD for a while did you find it more enjoyable back then? How important is balancing? and do you think that its possible to have fun on both sides while one side is arguably better/easier?
You play Killer without perks regularly and win almost all your matches? I have significant doubts about this. Probably one the few who do since this forum is mostly a pro-Survivor echo chamber with plenty of cognitive dissonance in the air.
Makes me think of a neon-hair Nea behind a Trapper mask saying how easy Killer is.

I don't think Doctor is a good example of this take. Doctor and Leatherface both got considerably better after their reworks, and while they were a little before my time, everything I've seen indicates they were actually changed because they were both weak and clunky and difficult to use. There's also the smaller reworks to consider here, like Legion and Ghostface - those are big changes, no doubt, but they happened because those killers were struggling, not because of survivors complaining.
It also kinda implies that survivors aren't right to complain, too. Obviously Doctor and Sadako were reworked more because of their strength level being too low, but when it comes to something like Skull Merchant where it was more to do with player feedback... are those complaints not pretty valid?
Sadako's pretty good, by the way. It took everyone a little while to figure out how to play as and against her, but now the dust's settled she's a killer with a lot going for her. Hell, bringing Iri Tape and the... I forget, the green addon that gives you loud noise notifications when someone takes out a tape, can make her borderline overpowered.
Doctor and Sadako were reworked because they had unfun play styles Survivors did not like. 3 genning with passive permanent madness building and condemned respectively. Current doctor is okay at best, MFT completely ruins his ability to disrupt loops with his shock. Sadako’s condemned is destroyed by players who understand the mechanics. They also kept the lullaby of a “stealth” Killer.
Skull Merchant is having her ability to 3 gen removed, fair enough, but given nothing in return. Survivors won’t have to deal with 3 gen Merchant, that’s all that matters.
Freddy, Trapper, Hillbilly, Pig, and Clown have been left to rot, M1 Killers have in general. No reworks for them because they are not bothering Survivors. Sadako and SM will be in the gutter with the other trash Killers soon enough. I expect a few to try to make them work for a bit before throwing in the towel.

The Rework isn't even released yet, and even further it may take time (as in, actual months) for a character to settle in. For example Sadako was considered complete trash for quite a while until the condemned strat was perfected, she climbed the tier list and then got reworked, and the reception was that she was trash after the rework as well, in fact worse than Skull Merchant during this PTB. Only small handful of changes were needed to change that. The same was there for a few other Killers too, even Xenomorph.
Don't portray yourself as this beacon of objectivity and logic when you are clearly biased, you aren't a vulcan or a machine, just someone with little patience throwing a tantrum on something not even released, it just makes you look dumb.
Sadako is trash against decent or better Survivors. She was reworked because Survivors did not like the Condemned strat. Doctor was reworked because Survivors did not like constant building of madness. SM reworked because of the 3 gen. Killers get big changes because they are bothering Survivors.
In regards to your amateur hour psychoanalysis of me, absolute nonsense.

what is viable or not is basicaly just personal preference and not actually objective.
Is saying Nurse is a superior Killer to Trapper a subjective statement?

I want you to think of this gif when you get upset about 15+ minute Survivor queue times.

I dont see any reason for Artists' hard work on outfit should get reduced in price because the Balance team didnt work on the way you want for SM.
The only poor one is the Coding team. Its a huge work to make a rework. Thats why they cant constantly buff/nerf, not mention rework.
You said like Mathiew Cote planned on balancing SM, coding the rework, modeling, texturing skin for SM, decide the price, then release the PTB by himself...
Way I want? So wanting a Killer to be viable is personal preference now? Interesting.
There is centralized leadership. That’s how businesses work.

I think you are just arguing with me just for the sake of it.
Your claim to me was that "casuals" will buy the skin because it looks cool and will be dupped into buying a skin for a killer that you see as "worthless" after her change. I would counter that for that type of player the changes won't matter to them. SO they still will be happy with their purchase.
Let me be clear I think there are things to criticize when it comes to skins in this game such as FOM tactics. But I just don't see the issue with releasing this skin. I really don't think there will anyone thinking they got screwed over.
This come more off as you have an issue with her changes and so you are grabbing at anything to criticize.
I’m just trying to get your perspective straight. Someone who buys the newest SM skin will not feel ripped off after her nerf because…why? I do not see a clear answer.
Of course I have problem with her changes. Kill her 3 gen fine but give something else to make her viable. Standard BHVR MO here of gutting the Killer so whatever bothered Survivors is gone and leave them in the trash.

Yeah, I spend a lot of time around here. It just comes off that you are just trying to dismiss my point by saying "Well you have a lot of posts on this forum!" without actually addressing my point.
I think it still stands. I would say a lot of people who would spend real cash on her skins will be aware she is getting changes. If there are people out there who just buy any skins if it looks "cool" (and totally in the dark because they don't follow any bHVR socials) well I would argue they most likely don't care about changes if a look is all that matters to them.
TL;DR - I don't see this as some conspiracy to trick people into buying the skin before her changes because they don't think it will sell after.
Perhaps I missed where in DBD itself, particularly the store, encourages you to look at upcoming Killer changes.
Also there is no conspiracy. It’s an out of touch move.
-
Survivors have no problem with it, so it will likely not be touched. Survivors have to be kept happy, Killers just have to show up to be punching bags.

I would consider myself "casual". I play about 3 to 4 matches a day and that's on days I do play. I don't play every day.
You have almost 5k posts in under 2 years. Nothing wrong with that but it certainly is not casual as most people would understand it.

What does that have to do with the price of fish?
The point is, you have a skewed perspective of how the average DBD player approaches the game. Most people are casual. No forums, no news. A skin looks cool to them, they buy it.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I really don't see the issue. If someone plays her enough to want to spend cash on this skin I would assume they are most likely aware of her changes. I don't know about everyone else but I don't drop cash on characters I don't play much.
Do you also assume most DBD players have almost 5k posts on the forum?

I mean...Are you ok?
Why should they not release something they worked on and invested money in?
I’m just great, thanks for asking.
Skull Merchant is about to become completely worthless and people are going to feel ripped off for buying her cosmetics. Perhaps not releasing a new skin, especially before the changes are live, would minimize this issue.
Most players are not on forums or follow DBD news. So the more I think about it, the more shameless it is to release a new skin right before she is nerfed into oblivion.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
The Skin was probably in the pipeline long ago. They also released Skins for her even if she is quite an unpopular character to play, so I guess those were already worked on when she released.
You can expect that this Skin was being worked on several months ago before they even knew that there would be a rework. Let alone that the Balance Department will not be involved in anything what the design team does and vice-versa.
Yet they still decided to release it. Full price. Stop making excuses.

They can even program the whole Survivor's Rulebook in it, Asimov's Robotic Laws style. Survivors perfect killer... I love it!
They can even create an event where the AI went rogue and start going against the laws by tunneling and camping because it decided it was the logical and best strategy to follow, and you have to gain as much "Fog Style Points" as possible without it getting you out of the game in that unfair and disgusting way.
Infinite possibilities! I don't see any downside on this idea, honestly.
There could be different difficulty levels. Survivor Rule book would be an easier one and offer less Fog Style (FS) points in contrast to a “No Mercy” difficulty level where you will be given a significant amount FS points for a successful performance.
Special events could be done like one called “7 minutes” where you have 7 mins to style on Wesker.
Fog Style merch and cosmetics will be a big hit.

While AI Killers aren't the way to go right now (just look at Survivor bots and it'll be clear why Killer bots, especially possible Nurse bots, aren't a good idea) I believe a way to play the game fully offline is the way to ensure DBD's effective immortality.
F13th, despite having been abandoned, is still playable in bot matches and this option alone will keep this incomplete buggy mess played for month or maybe years after the servers die in a while.
There will never be another "Smash Bros of horror" like DBD again and making the game not require online would be a great thing.
This game was born a live service and will end as one. Gens get boring. It’s best to focus on what most Survivors love most, styling on Killers. Being styled on as Killer doesn’t feel good, hence why AI Killers are a better option. I believe this proposition will be beneficial for the game and bring it to the next level.

Yeah, Im gonna dip out on that I dont get a hoot to play against the same stuff everytime even IF I can style points for diffrent types of play. No Thanks Please.
It would be more of a PvE focus. Getting “Fog Style” points would increase gen and exit gate speed. Killers would obviously be dynamic and it would not always be Wesker.
-
A good flashlight bully squad will give you some of the most miserable gaming experiences of your life. Lightborn is a QoL perk that makes Killer bearable. “Just look at the wall” does not help much squads who have 1000’s of hours in the game.
-
@Emeal said:
If you have played against AI Survivors you will know they cheat, they can see you through the walls. They know where you are they know which way you are running. A Killer AI tuned in the same way would just be the same, not only that the AIs are particularly boring to loop- They always make the same mistakes and they always loop the same way. Survivor DCs are incredibly boring.
If bHVR would implement AI Killers this game would lose its teeth, everything would be the same. Not even the ever changing maps would make up for it, cause every match would be the same, looping the loops in the same way.
And so we have to ask why we are doing this?
Cause you don't like camping or tunneling? its like a Killer asking for Survivors to not loop. Like this is like a main gameplay of this game.
I was thinking there could be “style points” like you get combos with maybe a flashlight blind into a pallet stun. Kind of like a horror version of Tony Hawk Pro Skater. Survivors could compete with each other.

Why did they not keep Infinites in the game? Or Perks in their base state? No Exhaustion, but Perks on 20 second Cooldown?
They have to at least keep Killers playing.

That can happen in any and all live service games. It’s the nature of the beast, and quite literally unavoidable when the game has become as large as DbD.
The question is about an in-game currency refund. Not only is that highly unlikely due to no actual money being involved, but BHVR is also not obligated to do so at all. In the EULA, it flat-out states they can and will make changes to existing content whenever they see fit. Customer satisfaction is irrelevant, a refund just isn’t happening.
Besides, there’s nothing saying Merchant isn’t going to see buffs. Especially when the reception has been a unanimous “she’s weak”.
Moreover, the customer should be aware that changes can happen at any point. It’s negligent on the consumer’s end to assume the content they purchase is never going to change.
Asking for a refund is a sign of customer dissatisfaction. Do you really think people who feel this way will stick with this game?
Also I have an extremely hard time thinking you would be singing this song if your favorite 3 characters were removed along with all your purchases for them. Classic “it’s fine if it doesn’t affect me” mindset you have going.
-
@GentlemanFridge said:
Someone didn’t read the EULA.
Someone doesn’t know the difference between a legal argument and a customer satisfaction one.

Why would anyone want to spend money in the future on killers when this can happen so blatantly?

What is the difference between you tunneling someone off hook because they were saved by a survivor vs you tunneling them off hook because they self unhooked?
You're still free to tunnel and camp.
One requires another Survivor to come off gens. The other does not.
-
@Peanits said:
You have no obligation to, but I'm gonna be blunt, this is horrible logic to follow. Flip what you've just said to a Survivor's POV and you've just created an endless loop. All it does is perpetuate toxicity. Running into a bad group doesn't absolve you of any wrongdoing when you decide to take it out on the next group. You've just decided to become part of the problem at that point.
Play the way you like so long as you're not breaking any rules, but you can't take the moral high ground and preach against toxicity if you stoop to their level. This goes for Survivors as well.
Some people can recognize that there's a person on the other side of the screen and like to play in a way that's fun for everyone. There's nothing wrong with that. If you're in it to win and you'd rather use strategies that help you win, that's fine too. But going out of your way to make things worse for people is never going to be justifiable.
Is the Killer’s enjoyment even a consideration? I mean at all. Really doesn’t feel like it.
-
@Crowman said:
It certainly seems like the devs want to force to killer to have to go for 12 hook games and ignore any sort of pressure a hook survivor provides without any changes to survivors and maps to make that actually possible for any killer not nurse.
