That's right. Sweat and try hard like there's no tomorrow and as if you were a streamer or some kind of pro playing for money, like your life depended on it, instead of just for fun.

For some people, winning is fun. And OP is wondering if he can win after the ruin patch without sweating. Meta killers notwithstanding. Oh. Wait. To the devs, killer fun is not existent now. That's right, I forgot, killers are AI. Nevermind.

So guys you can play against toxic killers who slug every game for the 4k or you can go to Raccoon City and get teammates, guns, and weapons in Resident Evil 3 Project Resistance...

    See you in Raccoon City

Really looking forward to that game. Both sides were fun in the closed beta and I sincerely hope the devs don't let unskilled players rule their balance team.

So people are here only killer mains i guess. People still saying this post is bait but believe it or not, Doctor with these perk combo too much broken

I find it hilarious that you're complaining about something that eats two perk slots. One of which can be removed by cleansing the totem. Someone doesn't have to be a "killer main" to see how stupid you're being since the point of surveillance + ruin is gen defense. And this is STILL weaker than old ruin. The devs wanted more dynamic chases and less passive defense. That is what this is. Unless you're going to admit that as a survivor you actually just want to do gens for 5 minutes and leave?

  • Expect both of them to have a power bar, and all of Billy's best addons will be turned into memes. They'll both probably need to pick up gas cans near generators or some ######### to recharge the power.

Actually, as written above, you would be affected by TR even when not in range. Then Unnerving presence etc becomes a mapwide effect.

And the oblivious effect is not created to work with an addon of a certain killer. And regarding Freddy, I think currently it is the wrong way. When you are asleep, it is totally hard to do mindgames. It should be hard while awake, it can give Freddy an easier first hit, but in dream state and chase he needs to work a bit. Having glimpses of Freddy at first and being f.... after the hit is somewhat unfair. Also the problem with BT getting avoided by dream state. You have to wake up first before unhooking. And if hit before unhook, BT is gone again. The other way round would be much better I think. Also fluffwise. When awake, you hear the lullaby that slowly puts you asleep. Once in dream world, the terror is real and you hear the heartbeat

Have you ever seen the Nightmare on Elm Street movies? When you're in the dream state you're in his ######### world. Why would he have to work harder after you're in his power? Sometimes I feel like people on this forum just say things without realizing how irrational they are.

Yeah I agree with that. It just tilts me to oblivion when people say "DEVS BAD IN GAME WHY THEY DECIDE BALANCE" like dude, I'm absolutely certain many people that are great at several games should never even step close to a balance team meeting.

To some people, being bad at something goes hand in hand with not understanding it. And they aren't wrong.

Why should gen speed be nerfed if survivors have only 30-35% escape rate in red ranks? You want survivors to stop escaping completely? Where is the logic? Should DBD just become a survivor stomp?

If anything, the gen repair speed must be faster, because right now we are far away from the 2k / 2 escapes that DEVs set a a goal for balance. Right now it's almost 3k - 1 escape on average.

Taking stats at face value, without context, shows a clear misunderstanding of stats. Especially considering that a game is considered "red rank" with only a single red rank survivor, one hook suicides, as well as mori deaths are all coded equally as sacrifices... without context these stats are useless. Oh and as a bonus aside: pipping as a survivor is about as hard as breathing so the red ranks are full of boosted potatoes. For every 1 pro survivor in the reds, there's at least a dozen jen jockeys who can't play the game properly. The ranks are seriously a joke most of the time. I really wish people would stop quoting the stats as some kind of silver bullet. They don't lend any weight whatsoever to your argument and thinking that they make you look foolish. Since by those same stats, the nurse is the worst killer in the game. And we all know that isn't true.

Children mad that someone took their favorite toy away. People really need to just relax and adapt to these changes. It's just a game after all...

Oh sweet summer child. When Mettle of Man was changed survivors reduced this forum to a crater, disconnected in protest, and review bombed the game for weeks. I bet my bottom auric cell that you weren't here calling for rationality then. This dumpster fire has been so fun to watch. Let the slug races begin.

Sick of seeing all the people crying over a crutch perk being nerfed and saying there quitting. Honestly if your going to quit a game bc they change a perk then maybe its good your leaving bc this game doesnt need such entitled players and before all you killer mains get your panties in a bunch you should know i play both sides equally, survivors didnt quit playing after balanced was nerfed or when self care was nerfed to the ground. Quit your crying and adapt

    "Quit crying and adapt".

Except this change is literally happening because people couldn't adapt. 1/10, try again.

  • 1/10 bait. This has been posted already.

  • Since I quit a little after the Plague's release, I've been watching my roommate play. She is literally a brand new killer, maybe rank 18 or so. Her queues are ungodly long since a lot of killer players are at that rank and when her match actually pops? Nearly all four survivors are 10 ranks above her. Like 3 purples and one green. Against a rank 18 killer. She mains Wraith. You do the math. Peanits needs a reality check. For people to derank to their proper ranks there would need to be a working rank system to begin with.

  • I guess being a boosted potato is something the devs want to reward. Good on you, spud. Lovely post OP. Totally not a bait post at all.

  • @edogast said:

No one wants to do generators, especially lower ranks and new players. We are too afraid to touch generators because killers know exactly where the generators are and the generators are so loud it practically gives our position away (THANKS TECHNICIAN YOU SOLVED NOTHING). We hate being sitting ducks and with Hex:Ruin our motivation to do generators went from 20% to 0% and we end up hating the game, not wanting to play dead by daylight anymore. Hex:Ruin is Toxic to us newbies who can't even hit regular skills check, and with the fluctuation of ranks, we're bound to get a killer who has Hex:Ruin on anyways. Did you know? there are a lot of grey rank killers who have all the perks unlocked, so rank doesn't even matter anyways.

"BUT WHAT ABOUT THE GEN RUSHERS, YOU CLEARLY NEVER PLAYED KILLER BEFORE"

well you see, when a survivor is hooked, all the other newbie survivors will stop doing generators and try to save the hooked person just to end up getting hooked as well, it's a cycle of trying to save but getting hooked instead. If you're getting Gen rushed then it's completely normal, you are not supposed to get 4k every game. You think a killer getting 4 kills in a game is a normal occurrence? you should think again. BVHR actually want new players to play the game and enjoy it, Hex:Ruin just sucks the soul right out of survivors, of course veteran players will argue "why don't you just run the perk small game?" "what are you talking about? hex:ruin gets destroyed by the first minute of the game", yeah but you are forgetting those OTHER GAMES, where newbies are just mad, frustrated, running around the map just to never find a ruin, they don't know the exact spots where ruins would spawn yet.

And aren't you bored of having Hex:ruin on EVERY build when you play as a killer? A newbie is not going to have the HAG unlocked, when you have Hex:ruin on you're always paranoid who's cleansing your Hex:ruin, and when you get your Hex:ruin cleansed within the first 1 minute into the game you get this sense of despair. Is that """FUN""" I rather run around freely getting Gen rush then getting salty the moment my Hex:ruin gets cleansed and tunneling that one survivor who cleansed it

I think BHVR did a right thing for creating a more friendly environment for new players and noobs. It's a lot more fun now that Hex:Ruin will be gone. New players can live freely without the PTSD of Hex:Ruin

Every single person who plays this game well was a newbie to begin with. Guess what we did? We got good at hitting skill checks. Sounds to me like you want to be rewarded with escape without actually getting better at the game. Okay. Now that Hex ruin is gone, what is going to be your next complaint? Two health states not enough? Will you want double windows back on the killer shack? Old self care? Toolbox buff? Because I guarantee you it won't ######### end here. This constant backsliding, one sided balancing and appealing to weak players like you is why I quit this game in the first place. Remember when people used to take the time to learn a game's mechanics instead of complaining that it doesn't cater to them? Yeah I remember that too.

Oh. And being that I work with veterans who deal with actual PTSD, I don't like it when people use it to describe a ######### game mechanic that requires you to have rudimentary timing. That is so infuriating to me everytime someone does it. I don't care if you didn't mean it as actual PTSD. I don't care if it was hyperbole. Its extremely disrespectful to use a serious mental illness as a fulcrum for your inability to hit a ######### great skill check. ######### you for that.

  • @slammizzle said:

First off I would like to say thank you to BHVR. Yeh your game has bugs and so on but your game is fun, addictive and original.

I'm so bored and tired of seeing posts along the lines of "the Devs don't know what they are doing" or "the Devs are survivor/killer biased". Have you people who moan and ######### actually thought to yourself hang on maybe the game is 90% exactly how the DEVELOPERS AND PROGRAMMERS want it to be? Stop slagging people off just because matches don't go how YOU want 100% of the time.

Criticism doesn't hurt games. Mindless white knighting does. Weak bait. Try again, bruv.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/977880#Comment_977880

The devs explained their reasons. It's evident that, from their pov, in low ranks survivors struggle against Ruin much more than killers against gens. Also having 45-80% of matches with Ruin makes the game feel stale.

Well their POV is bollocks. Plain and simple. Especially since they tried to gloss over their real reason (survivor enjoyment) with some bullshit excuse about Gatekeeper emblems. Nobody gave a ######### about that. Killers used Ruin for two reasons. To slow the game down to breathe a little bit, and give map pressure to killers that lack it. This is going to result in killers playing far more cutthroat and sweaty than they ever have before, and I look forward to watching the fallout from the sidelines.

Also. Speaking as someone who played nothing but survivor before I quit the game, ruin forced me to get good at hitting greats or to run hex finding perks. Now survivors won't bother with hitting those because they have no impetus to get better which will end up making the game feel even more stale. Lol.The devs are obviously out of touch with the enjoyment of their killer players. Fully evidenced by their biased dev announcement and focus on "survivor frustration" without even stopping to mention why killers might be feeling frustrated or annoyed.

You know what'll really make the game feel stale? 35 minute queues. But I guess if their idea of removing the ranks from the tally screen go through they can quietly shutter matchmaking without any flak.

nobody complains about corrupt intervention. i run it on like 5 of my killers, and i've never heard anyone have an issue with it

corrupt intervention stalls the early game, it doesn't slow the entire game down. i think that's why nobody cares about it, despite it being an extremely strong perk

Nobody complains. Yet. Key word is yet. Ruin was an accepted aspect of the game until now. I'm sure once Corrupt sees more use the "you can't win without it waaaaah baby killer" types will come out of the woodwork. All while literally playing every game in a wheelchair full of second chance perks and commodious toolboxes.

  • @twistedmonkey said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/976813#Comment_976813

That still begs the question as it only seems to be the main issue for some while others do well or even better than those without it.

Is it then too powerful and just artificially puts one at a rank they wouldn't normally be at compounding an issue they aren't capable of dealing with? So if person needed ruin to get to red ranks do you feel they actually belong there?

That's like saying if a survivor used sprint burst to cover up their bad positioning to get to red ranks, that means they don't belong there. Perks exist to give you advantages. Just so happens that Ruin helps a killer in their MAIN OBJECTIVE. I haven't used ruin in ages but some of you seem to act like Ruin wins chases for you. Get real. Or do we have to play perkless to "belong" in a rank?

  • Sounds like a good change. Making the killer attached to a hex totem is lore friendly and gives the survivors an alternate victory status by cleansing the killer from the match. It doesn't even involve skill checks, so now players can win easily! It should award survivors 250k bloodpoints and 500k bloodpoints to survivor that removes the killer. This should make the game more FuN fOr EvErYoNe.

  • @JawsIsTheNextKiller said:

I get why people are upset, they have been relying on it for years, but plenty of killers do fine without it. Long term, this will be good for the game. We might have to be a little patient though.

Here's hoping the game has a long term. If they keep balancing things from a singular point of view it won't

  • @LemeTheMeme said:

I'm glad ruin is getting its change. It made playing survivor boring and was a nuisance. This change will be healthier for both sides I believe.

It made killers get so much pressure by doing nothing, but also made them rely on crutch perks like such to perform that well.

Though gen rush will be still inevitable, maybe with this change it can open scenarios of increased gen times. If ruin remained in the same state it was, AND they increased gen speeds, ruin would be overused since it gives even more.

As someone who tries to not use ruin since I want to improve my gameplay, I am really happy with these changes :)

Let me preface this with the fact that I haven't touched ruin since the Plague came out. But I really, really don't like the term "crutch perk". Because anything can be considered a crutch if you look at it a certain way. Sprint Burst is a crutch for survivors with bad positioning. Dead Hard is a crutch for survivors who misplay. Borrowed Time is a crutch for survivors who perform unsafe unhooks. The list goes on. Ruin was not a crutch perk. There are no "crutches" besides maybe old Mettle of man. Ruin was a perk used by killers to slow the game down, since that is a killer's primary way of gaining momentum. It was the only way for killers like the clown to exert pressure on a map. Now it is gone. And the "Ruin" they're replacing it with is another "win more" perk like Dying Light. A perk that doesn't help you until you're already winning. All this change is going to do is reinforce the high mobility slugging meta to exert map pressure and avoid losing the game in five minutes. Doesn't that sound fun for survivors? Long queue into an unfun slug race. I can't wait!

They did not do this for the good of the game. They did this to chase new players and the one sided enjoyment of survivors. The biased tone of the Dev Blog told me that much. The funny thing about all of this? New players don't stick around that long. The devs are courting them at the expense of their own playerbase and will be left with nothing. When you have survivor mains criticizing you about a killer perk, you know something is very wrong.

  • Hooking all survivors once is fair.

But as another commenter said, it isn't going to matter anyways.

  • When I played, I only used Ruin on clown. Since he has no map pressure and that was the point of Ruin. I was a Trapper main and relied on Corrupt Intervention as my crutch perk. Since any perk that helps you win is a "crutch" now.

  • @VincentRedfield said:

Kinda surprised. They nerfed it as heavily as decisive strike.

DS is actually in a better place lmao. Before, decisive could only be used immediately by the obsession. Everyone else had to wiggle to about 30%. The killer could juggle it. And the stun time was reduced by enduring. Now? Everyone can use it after being unhooked. You can't dribble people that have it and enduring doesn't affect it. Not even close.

  • @TheBean said:

Ruin is getting changed... And you still haven't tried it yet...

    BUT THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!

You know... I've gotten angry at this game... at the Devs....

But seriously.... About 90% of the first two pages of the discussion group is all about killers not wanting Ruin changed. Making up everything they can do prevent it from changing.

    LUL

    Come on!

Let us try it first... You may like it.

    [Doubt]

People act like the sky is falling because BVHR doesn't have a great track record with perk changes.

  • The wording of the patch notes pissed me off more than the notes themselves. I guess the devs think we are bots and can't fathom the concept of "fun".

  • Every killer that leaves means that four more people have to wait longer. Remember that.

  • @Zagrid said:

If it doesn’t notify people that there is hex ruin and there are no visual queues the gen is regressing aside from the pistons it might be ok. Definitely a huge nerf and kills any hope for high rank killer balance, but it’s ok.

However if it does notify you, the perk is useless.

When you stop touching a gen it has regression sparks. It notifies you. The perk is useless.

  • "We looked at why he was frustrating to play against".

Their little blurb didn't say ######### about why he was frustrating to play AS. That should tell you all that you need to know. Any strength the doc gains will be in spite of this rework, and not because of it. They are not addressing any of his issues from the killer side so don't believe for a second that Doc is going to be any better after this. The last rework that seemed to care about the players actually playing as the killer was Freddy. Survivor fun will always come first, every time. Get used to it.

  • @Almo said:

Do you guys actually play this game? Ruin. Doesn't. Make. It. To. The. Late. Game. No hex perks do against anyone with half a brain. Get real.

  • Just because I recognize bad perk design, doesn't mean I use it. FYI. I pretty much only play Trapper and run Corrupt Intervention. The fact is, Corrupt is more power than new!Ruin, yet the latter is still a hex perk. That is bad game design.

Because then survivors would have to deviate from their meta builds. Duh.

  • @crossboy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/968822#Comment_968822

Because people were using it way too much. People like to act like it's necessary to win games when it's honestly not. I hate using it as a killer and I hate playing against it as a survivor. Nothing about it is fun or creative and there's practically no risk or involvement from the killer needed.

Passive effects should never be overwhelmingly hard on the other side. If something is always active (until hex totem destroyed), it shouldn't be something that is extremely powerful.

No perk should ever have as high of a usage as Ruin does. Granted, this isn't an easy feat and I don't think this is a realistic expectation. However, I'm glad BHVR is remaining open minded to reworking perks like this and even emblems that could be directly affected by it.

Your logic is flawed. The entire concept of hex perks are "giant effect that forces survivor players to want to remove it". If it doesn't have impact and isn't extremely dangerous, why the ######### should it even be a hex perk? You don't make any sense.

And as far as popularity, perks should not be nerfed based on that. If that was the case, then adrenaline, BT, DS, and DH all need to be nerfed since they were used by 80% of the survivors I faced in my past games.

  • @Peanits said:

I would definitely say give it a try first. Having played around with it, it can be pretty nasty once you get some pressure. Combine it with Surveillance and you also get some outrageous tracking (since generators automatically regress). You'll always know which generators are being worked on.

Why is it still a hex perk though? I'd rather you give it the corrupt intervention treatment and put it on a lengthy timer. Having an underwhelming perk attached to a hex seems like bad game design. April is in four more months. This seems out of season.

Are you saying a killer power with no counter play is balanced?

Hide in lockers to reduce madness levels. Hit the shaky skill checks. Snap put of it if you're madness three. Don't be a boosted animal. Have more than two brain cells. Doc is an absolute joke. His base shock therapy range is trash, calm spirit deletes his ability to track with screams, and he only shines during a three gen strat or using the "impossible skillcheck doc" build. Every other killer outshines him.

Every killer in the game has counter play. Inclusing nurse. I'm so sick of people using this lame ass phrase to reinforce their ######### opinions. Your profile picture is icing on the irony cake since a lot of people think the plague currently has "no counter play".

  • Cringe. People use that word for anything they don't like, instead of something that actually fits the definition.

  • @DoctorShockBoi said:

I'm curious to see what some people think about the current state of the game.

Do you think the game is great as is?

    Needs a lot of work?

Do you think the game will die soon?

    Etc...

    Let me know..

Me personally? I see some things that can be fixed. Some things that can stay the same. But I will say that everytime DBD makes a non - licensed killer and survivors, the community goes wild and don't usually fail to disappoint.

But I still believe this game is doing very well for what it is. Not many games only have 1 or 2 game modes and are still doing very well.

I think people will join the community. People will leave. People will hate and rage but still play. And people will outright get bored. But I would like to know what the community thinks.

Also... Drop whether you're a killer or survivor main and what rank you are.

I'm rank 1 on both but I just wanna see some other ranks :)

Actually, a lot of older PC games like CS: GO, Unreal Tournament and Quake did very well with only a few game modes. This isn't exactly unprecedented.

Anyways. I'm not happy with DBD and I feel like most of the problems are intrinsic to the game's design (static survivor objective versus dynamic killer objective, map design, the spaghetti code breaking every patch), which means they can't ever truly be fixed. So instead of endlessly complaining about it I just don't play anymore. I will always watch the forums though. Here's hoping that a bigger company can take the asymmetrical game mode and actual do something worthwhile with it. Because right now, Dead by Daylight is stuck in a holding pattern of constant cosmetic releases and half-baked content patches. And community good will doesn't last forever.

  • I watch the forums but I don't play anymore. This game is like a toxic relationship and I'm kind of done with it. I am hoping that Project Resistance and Predator are good enough to force this game to be better. Its been proven that a lack of competition makes any game stagnate and Last Year is not proper competition. Neither was Friday the 13th. I will never come back, but hopefully the game improves for those that do stick around.

Oh yeah, let's deactive a perk that is anti tunneling, in the end game, where you are 100% being tunneled, awesome fix.

How about we stop crying about it, if survivors make it to the EGC you failed at doing you're objective, protect generators, so that's your fault.. survivors should not get punished for it

So killers should always get punished no matter what but survivors should always get rewarded with free escapes because reasons? OK.

Your main objective is to survive. The killer's main objective is to kill you. See how those might be opposing objectives? Mori offerings (like keys) facilitate said objective faster. Congratulations! Now you understand the game. You had a bad game. Either ######### off or queue into another one when you're more emotionally stable. Because if losing a yellow flashlight and a damned pip makes you this irritated, maybe PvP games aren't for you. Sometimes you just ######### lose and you have to grow a pair and move on with your life. DBD is no exception, but the community seems to think they should always have a way to "win".

  • Because Meg players are idiots. Her perks attract players that don't do generators. And as far as "taking her over other women"? I'm more of a Jane type, so I don't see Meg's appeal in the slightest.

  • Get used to it, OP. Survivors outnumber killer players both in game and in the community, and survivors also buy more skins. So their enjoyment will always comes first. Maybe they could just replace the killers with bots. Anyways. I'll reserve actual judgment on the doc until the PTB, but I don't have a lot of faith. Every pvp game is competetive by definition. Just some are more balanced than others. DbD is one of the less balanced games.

You clearly don't understand the difference between a 1 v 4 asymmetrical game, and other PvP offerings. Adding a totem counter would discourage build variety, in an already stale meta. What the ######### would be the point to detective's hunch or small game if a totem counter existed? And don't give me that ######### about Thrill of the Hunt. The totems belong to the killer and they deserve to have information that survivers don't in terms of that.

Get over yourself. A lot of people, like myself, do just fine as a solo without a totem counter. Just run small game if it bothers you so much. But wait, that would disturb your oh so important meta ######### build wouldn't it? Sounds to me like you want free information without having to slot a perk for it. And if you hate "balancing with perks" so much, why the ######### are you even playing this game? Giving survivors more baseline information would destabilize the ######### game.

I disagree but that's fine, it's your opinion. If the game had a challenge to specifically target certain characters (and it doesn't) then maybe I could see why. You, as a killer, TELLING me to play a certain character is bogus and not what this game is about. Surely you understand that.

Tell that to the survivors that disconnect when they hear a nurse screech or a billy chainsaw. I don't personally dodge lobbies but getting this gassed up about says something about you.

  • Messaging them makes you worse than they are. Unless they leave a match in progress then you need to get over yourself. You're not entitled to anyone else's time just because you had to wait a bit for a lobby.
