Ugly Christmas Sweaters! Yay! More of them! Buy buy buy! Only $10! Buy now!

I am never going to suppose BHVR again because they've shown how little they care for us in the community. We only exist as livestock. Expected to spend our money on their macrotransactions, no matter what. This "event" made that clear.

I would love to see this, but I doubt people will. It's kinda same as with new iPhones, it's usually not worth the money, but people wanna flex on others, so will buy it anyways. So people will keep on buying rifts and skins just to show how different/better they are. And watching forum right now, seeing people crying about price of skins or not getting refunds instead of addressing actual problems is making me sad.
The modern gaming industry in a nutshell. People have grown up exposed to macrotransactions that they see it as something benign and normal.
-
BHVR is desperately trying to get some heat off their backs. That's what this entire thing reeks off. Desperation.
I won't forget what they did. No matter what they do. And I hope a lot more players won't either.
-
I'd say survivor-sided until certain breakable walls are broken. I'll never understand why BHVR decided to give god loops back to survivors by blocking doorways that was previously open up due to being god loops before.
-
Surprise! Another bug!
-
Its almost like you're not performing as good as you do with your main because you're not as well equipped and experienced on another Killer. Huh. I wonder how that'd be?
-
I am sure they're delighted to get a thanks after screwing you over. Maybe next time you'll be more frugal and not buy anything.
-
Every Q&A is like that. There's nothing important being answered.

Have the devs admitted that? Have you seen the code? Has the source code leaked? Am I missing something here? Obviously, I haven't seen it, I don't know what their code base looks like, I'm just arguing you can't say it's spaghetti code unless you've seen it and bugs can happen regardless if it is or isn't.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1704668#Comment_1704668
Please reread my example. And again, when developers do stuff it's usually in sprints where multiple things are being worked on, again: that doesn't mean it's spaghetti code that breaks it. If an abstract or base class is used for all killers, and they fix a bug from one killer in that abstract or base class and it affected spirit, that again is because it's spaghetti code. It's literally the paradigm of oop to have code being reused when you can to limit spaghetti code.
Edit: if I get proven wrong and shwon proof it is spaghetti code, cool, I'm just offering alternative reasons as a dev and I'm giving devs at least a little benefit of the doubt because I work in the field.
As long as they keep providing spaghetti bugs I'll call it spaghetti code.
-
Charms should just be removed, if you ask me. They're literally useless garbage. They exist only as fodder for the Rift.
Saving perk loadouts have been something that have been suggested a lot of times but BHVR did what BHVR does.

As a software engineer I'm going to tell you right now that what you learn at school/college is nothing like actual development. Little/no colleges teach about how real world engineering is like and you only really start to know once you get a job or internship. That is why imposter syndrome is such a huge huge huge thing in the field.
Anyways, I'm arguing against your point #2 - we don't know if their code is spaghetti because something changes and breaks. There are so many factors in this.
DBD is written in presumably C++ because it uses unreal - I'm gonna give a situation I've been in as a dev in c#, which is also an OOP language. Let's say we have a base class - BaseSurvivor that has base mechanics for every survivor and whatever inherits from that class overrides as needed, whatever. Let's say they have a method on there that calls a static helper class that does some business logic, and we had a bug report come in that says 'hey this isn't providing what we are expecting' and we go in and fix it, but in the process we introduced a new bug. The devs and QA team go through it and test it don't find anything wrong. We ship this update out to the customers, and bingo bango we got another bug report come in because this static helper class was also used in another part of the app and had unintended consequences. That's not spaghetti code, that's just the paradigm. One of the biggest things in OOP is reusability of code, if you need to do the same thing twice, you make it reusable.
Sprints are also not just one thing being worked on, it's multiple things being worked on at once by multiple people. Blaming something broke because they fixed something could be a completely from something else even though to us, the end user, it seems that correlation = causation for the issue.
In either case, I don't particularly put blame on issues on devs on a few issues (ie this event) because usually things like this are controlled by product team and priorities and initiatives usually come from the business side of things and they are told what to do. This is why it takes forever for things to happen. Remember when they changed auras and had so much backlash? It's not just as simple as a dev or two going in and reverting things, it's an entire process. Product and project managers need meetings, determine if it's a "hotfix" or if it will go out in a regular update, devs need to estimate time/effort on the tickets created, do investigations, it needs PR reviews, it needs to go through some QA (I assume bhvr has some sort of QA, but sometimes I question that).
I think the biggest issue facing DBD is that the original devs didn't expect this to blow up and it's just had bandaid after bandaid of fixes that can only be solved by rewriting the game from scratch, and that's not a particularly easy initiative to take nor is it profitable for the business side of things to hold off on what could be a multi-year project to approve it. These are usually put in the backlogs as technical debt tickets and sit there forever and taken up randomly in sprints and not at once. Even if any new code is optimized/cleanly written/whatever, it's still on top of the base code that isn't.
TL;DR blaming devs doesn't do anything when things like the event come from above them and the business side got initiatives to hit, deadlines to meet, blaming devs for spaghetti code for changing something and another thing breaking is ignorant we don't know what their code base looks like nor do we know if it broke because something else was worked on
How could you not call it Spaghetti code when updates break so much stuff, even things in areas where nothing was changed.. like the Spirit now making sounds when phasing?
-
No. If you buy the premium Rift you're telling BHVR that its OK to keep ruining their game this way.
-
Of course its not OK. Its the same thing with why Killers have to be locked into lobbies but survivors can last-second switch without any issues. BHVR's extremely biased towards survivors.
-
Yes. Remove 'em.
-
It reeks of desperation, to be honest. They just wanted to get some heat off their backs.

That is true. Though I can't remember if the event skins from 2 years ago were buyable with event currency or shards last year.
They weren't. But. You could unlock them with the Serums gained from the latest Halloween event, thus you could unlock them for free if you wanted them more.

It's actually a lie that companies don't pay taxes. There are companies (and ppl) that don't pay certain taxes but they do actually pay other taxes. U can't point to one and act like they're not paying millions in taxes. Whether or not u feel that the company should be paying every tax cuz they're rich enough is a different discussion. Then there are some articles that act like because the companies overpaid in taxes and got money back from the government, as shown in records, the government is paying tax payer money to companies. Finally, there are the ppl that imply that tax credits and tax breaks are the same thing as governments giving money to companies. I wish my tax credit from my school loans was the government giving me money but it isn't.
You should watch Jim Sterling where he breaks down how it works, and that people in the UK actually pay big gaming companies back on taxes due to loopholes. They're getting paid by taxpayers instead of paying taxes.

It's a good change since it will help new players earn a lot of shards. It will give them the needs to buy:
- 1 event cosmetic
- Nearly 1 full green set
- A new character
- 3 shrine perks
The only issues I have now are that:
- People who bought skins now have wasted shards. These should be reimbursed.
- Rift is still just full of charms. What happened to the survey we did 6 months ago?
You forgot to mention how the older Halloween skins are still only purchasable through Auric Cells.
-
According to screenshots of support messages from people who tried getting a refund, it seems like you're out of luck. You're getting the finger.
-
The few that play Pig are better Killer players than the average lot.
-
There needs to be more voices vocal of BHVR. They're spinning out of control.
-
The Rift as a concept is extremely disappointing to me. BHVR want to turn DbD into a mobile game (and they already have) on PC and consoles. The monetization is getting worse and the prices are steadily increasing.

It's obvious that bhvr doesn't care about the community at all. But the backlash that they're getting from this patch is the worst their backlash has ever been.
The only thing in the community they care about is how much money they're willing to spend on macrotransactions.
I find it hilarious with this Iridescent Shard login thing that none of the older Halloween can be unlocked. It reeks of desperation to get some heat off their backs.
-
I hope something as silly as a Bloodhunt will make people randomly forget all crap BHVR has pulled lately.
-
I followed the game after it released and bought it a month after, due to watching youtubers play and having fun.
The game wasn't fun back then, due to infinites. I started playing "regularly" when Nurse dropped.
-
Did you know that in the very first PTB, BHVR tried out a new mechanic which slowed down the sacrificial process of survivors if the Killer was too close to the hook? It was instantly exploited by survivors and removed.
-
You should call them MACRO-transactions because that's what they are. There's nothing "micro" about buying a skin for $10.
-
Another thread confirmed that you're out of luck.
-
Why do people keep getting surprised by this?
-
I'll never forget. Because if I do, then there won't be anger coming when BHVR escalates their shady macrotransaction practices.
-
Surprise! Complete opposite of what people wanted. Again!

Literally the only thing they absolutely need to do to decrease the grind is remove the tiers. Your second idea of reworking the BP offerings is sooooo good and makes so much more sense than the garbage they have now. I have literally no clue why BHVR can't do this, it would be such a simple and easy change to make for the next update. Would literally take 5 minutes to code and an artist a few hours to design the icons.
The BP Offerings rework will never happen because its too customer-centric in nature. Imagine giving players something positive. Pff.

I posted in the stream about this.
I asked them if possible not to look at just the stats of the OoO user but if they are in an swf the overall escape rates of that group.
Like they would ever do that. It'd prove people correct and that's not OK.

The only actually honest fogwhisperer i've seen has been tru3ta1ent, it feels like he actually says whats on his mind without thinking "how can i lick the devs' asses this time", most fogwhisperers i've seen are just awfuly biased towards the devs and not the community, take for example paulie and king on twitter talking about how we are all ungreatful and ######### that we event got halloween skins.... also calling the ppl that want to have an event to earn cosmetics morons should not be supported by bhvr but i guess it is (not gonna specify who says that a lot)
Its why I don't follow anyone of the Fog Whisperers.

So remember when behaviour said we dont want exclusives anymore and release the skins from the lunar event and now they are giving fog whisperers codes for a give away to a exclusive charm
Trusting what BHVR say is something I've not done in ages. They're not reliable or consistent enough for it.

Fog whisperers have their own exclusive charms on top, as if they don't get enough ######### to just play the game already
The Fog Whisperers are just glorified shopping displays to showcase new stuff to entice the weak to consume.

The Devs worship the stats and never look at the info behind them. This is nothing new. They don't care about potential, they only care about what their little tiny spreadsheet of kills and escapes tells them. Which even my highschool statistics teacher could tell them is amongst the dumbest things one could ever do.
I generally don't like Dev bashing, it takes a lot of effort and soul to make even a barely functional game, but... That's not something that can be defended.
There's a reason why people say that they're completely disconnected from their game and playerbase.

For veteran players, the bloodweb is alright. What I'm afraid is that this horrendous grind might drive new players away. I have a friend that started playing last month and he was shocked how much he had to grind just to get a decent build. Level up 4 characters to level 40 for the teachables, and then grind through all tiers on the characters he wants to level up, that's simply too much.
That's the thing, ain't it? Reducing the grind wouldn't matter to veterans since they've already made it through it all. If anything, they'll be upset that the grind that they fought through is reduced. New players, however, will have a much better experience.

Well, you are reinforcing their behavior (heh) by rewarding them through macrotransaction purchases.

Thank you for your feedback
Pardon me for not having any trust in what the developers will cook up. For all we know, they might just remove the Iridescent Shard price and double the AC price and all that a change. BHVR has shown their hand and money at any cost is what they're after.

I don't believe in the devs, I very much buy what I like, if you haven't figured out now they ain't listening then stop paying? it's simple as really.
Why are you buying things from them if you don't trust them? Isn't that counterproductive?
-
If you're a new player coming into Dead by Daylight, the bloodweb is an overwhelmingly frustrating experience because it only gets worse the more you play Dead by Daylight and unlock new content.
Here's a few things we could do to make it less frustrating;
- Remove perk tiers. All perks unlock "fully upgraded" which would reduce 2/3s of all perks you need to unlock for any character.
- Rework BP offerings to actually have value. Here's a shameless self-insert of a post I made with suggested changes. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/174323/bp-offering-rework-idea
- Make it so that you can earn 32k in a trial without being locked behind 4 different categories would make it so that BP gain overall is improved for all players. More BP in the coffin means you'll progress faster in the Bloodweb.
