Someone ELI5? I don't understand what I'm supposed to be seeing.
The (barely) stylized number 4 in the anniversary banner is referencing Candyman's hook and not Pyramid Head (whose head just looks like a number 4 all the time, because that's how triangles work) or anything else people have been saying.

Nope, just don't see candyman in DBD whatsoever, and this is really reaching.
Well, you will see him soon enough.

I uh.. Not much correlates here to dbd?
I take it you don't know there's a new killer coming soon and the subject of who that killer is is a hotly debated topic.

Abs aren't overrated! The body's core muscles (which includes your abs) provide the foundation for all physical activity.
Additionally your abdominal muscles in particular serve to shield your delicate lower organs from physical harm.
Jason though, he's more or less a big walking corpse. Any sizable abs he may have had are probably mostly putrescent.
Which leads into his appeal.
He is the origin of the archetypal impervious, ever-returning, superhuman slasher. The reason he seems boring or derivative is because his success was the impetus for those slasher films that seem so similar.
Before he was around that more or less didn't exist. F13 made it popular and kept it popular for about a decade.
It's easy to say in hindsight, "Jason's not so special", just like it is to say, "Star Wars isn't that creative", or "Dracula's just another lewd vampire story" - but that's ignoring the innovations at the time that made those stories possible.
F13 is a special franchise: one that certainly defines the golden age of the slasher movies that DBD draws so much inspiration from.
Also, for some people, the hulking, unstoppable Killer archetype is still interesting; Jason and his silent hatred, devotion to his dead mother, and proclivity for using a variety of common tools as weapons to kill mostly innocent teens (that are typically developed as characters and not just immediately thrown into a meat grinder), in particular.
Just because you don't see the appeal to the above, doesn't mean there is none.
I personally find the quasi-philosophical ramblings of Saw and the rather ludicrously violent nature of the later traps to be a bit tedious, but that doesn't stop it from having a large fan base who do appreciate those traits.
I meant abs are overrated for attractiveness.
I'm not saying there's no appeal, quite the opposite. I recognize there is appeal, I'm just wondering why.

If Jason, Myers and Freddy aren’t famous, then which horror slasher is?
They are iconic and defined the whole slasher genre. Toss in GhostFace/Scream and Leatherface you have the 5 biggest together.
they may tend to be more iconic/known in the US (and EU) but really, what else would count as iconic if not them?
"Outside the USA". Read that again, then look at the box office numbers.
-
I don't, no. What I feel is that ridiculous suggestions like "Survivors should be able to pick themselves up without Unbreakable" and "Killers should be weakened (slowed, stunned, and so on) if they're near a hooked survivor" get shot down. That goes for killer suggestions too, so it's not an "anti-survivor" thing.
-
The next one. It's always the next one.

Jason, Freddy etc. are well known outside of the US. Candyman tho is not even popular in there. Just a failed franchise.
Candyman is indeed not popular in the USA (though the fact that it's getting a reboot/remake would call into question that "failed franchise" bit). However, according to the box office numbers, the other ones aren't well known outside the USA either.
-
Yeah, I recommend everyone stops playing until the current wave of hackers is banned.I was tricked by the title because there's currently a hacker wave going around with people equipping killer stuff on survivor and vice-versa, as well as stacking perks. This is why writing proper titles is important.

One person's social circle doesn't determine what the whole world considers iconic in horror films. I see the opposite. I can agree though the Friday the 13th series isn't that great. There's far better horror movies and the same can be said about the other 'iconic' ones. Many of those however do not make for engaging gameplay because they're relying far more on psychological horror and powers that don't fit with the pacing of this game.
Well, you're right about my social circle not representing the world, which is why I looked at the box office instead. According to that objective data, F13th isn't popular internationally.
-
I mean, if you just compare box office for Friday the 13th, you can see that the vast majority of the box office comes from the USA. Usually, about half of it would be from the USA, and half from outside the USA. However, according to Wikipedia, about 383 million USD of the box office came from the USA, and about 84 million USD from outside the USA. Those are numbers for the whole franchise, BTW.

That's another one I'd never heard of until DbD. I'd ask my current social circle, but they're not into horror movies, so it might just be me.

Many however do not make for engaging gameplay and don't have the iconic appeal.
No, my social circle doesn't represent the whole world, but you'd think at least someone would've heard of them, right? Also, people know the look of "hockey mask"? Why is that surprising, given that sports as a whole are the among biggest industries on the planet?

Maybe hes that bland because he was one of the earliest once and didnt need to be creative or indepth. (Kinda like dbd itself lol).
I mean, hes a big hulking dude, maybe people are just thirsty for dem abs?
But i think its because he's one of the more well known slashers.
That first sentence makes sense and is a fair justification for why he's so bland.
Also, abs are overrated.

After 3 years, this was a good start.
I was being sarcastic. We shouldn't balance for newbies, so don't bring them to the table.

Ranks 9 through 20 don't see it that way.
I see it daily on the forums, new killers asking "What's tunneling, why am I being called names,"
They don't know they're well...."tunneling." Innocently they see it as, getting another hook from an injured survivor.
I don't know...there are a lot of politics involving DS. I typically get heated, defensive, and debate-y but this convo is pretty chill.
Are we balancing for newbies? Because if so, we need a ######### ton of killer buffs before DS is even on the table.

You're right about the "outplaying" thing, you're absolutely right. < -----------------------------------------------------------------------
But how many times does that happen compared to the killer just want a free kill from someone that was just unhooked. |
Because I see ^ this more than ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because getting those DS stuns out early is better than leaving them for later, when they virtually ensure an easy escape.

you ask anyone who doesnt watch horror movies who candy man is and theyll tell you they dont know him, but if you ask them who jason is I guarantee you at least 60% will say they know him. the hockey mask is very iconic and he helped pave the way for the slasher movies we have today.
I take it you missed the part about the girlfriend and how nobody else knew or cared about Jason or Freddy?

For a 1 Time use perk, a 5 second stun is okay.
Coming from a killer main. I get hit once a week.
For a free escape perk that makes it so the killer's punished if he grabs you inside 60 seconds, a 3-second stun is more than OK.
Coming from a survivor main, DS should be nerfed. If not in duration, then in usability. Because no perk should punish the killer for outplaying you.
-
@BigBrainMegMain said:

Enduring also got buffed.
Also, that would mean Head On would need to be a 5 second stun if Enduring was reverted, because a 1.7 second stun would make Head On completely effing useless. And giving Head On a 5 Second stun would rally killer mains everywhere with their pitchforks and cry Survivor Bias.
I didn't say Enduring should be reverted, I said DS should be. Because DS used to be a 3-second stun.

@BigBrainMegMain said:

Well I don't see anyone else posting idea so......🙄
The idea is to revert the DS buff that was only added because Enduring made the stun too short. Instead, the devs nerfed Enduring so it no longer affects DS, but kept DS in its buffed state. Perfectly fair, not one-sided at all.

Instead of correcting my statement, why don't you put that 3head brain of yours into use and stick to the topic.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1293107#Comment_1293107
I came up with a great anti-camping/tunneling perk because I've actually put thought into new perks instead of just lazily begging the devs for a DS nerf.
If the killer is within 15/25/35 Meters from the hooked survivor the perk is able to be used.
You must be at full health in order for the perk to activate. When unhooking the survivor, they are granted a full health state.
After 15/20/30 seconds you will enter the Broken Status effect for 40/50/60 seconds. (yes, it's how it works, the numbers are correct)
Since newer, inexperienced killers target the weaker targets, this will prevent that and will either force the killer to target the unhooker, or work harder for their tunnel.
So reward survivors for hook rushing. Got it.
-
I sure hope not. He's as bland as they come.

@BigBrainMegMain said:

I semi-run Meta perks.
Sprint Burst, Spine Chill, Iron Will and DS and I wouldn't trade anyone of them with anything.
If I had more choices of a DS-type perk, I'd welcome it. I didn't it'll get rid of DS users in general, but you'll see less of them running DS.
If you were to see a decrease in DS users, it'd only be because the new perk would be better than it (bigger stun, longer duration, ######### like that).
-
@BigBrainMegMain said:
DS isn't a problem unless you let it be.
That's it. If you're a GOOD killer, the survivor running DS will be stuck with 3 perks the entire game.
And news flash, it's not an anti-tunnel perk.
Instead of a change, or a nerf to the ONLY perk in our Arsenal that we have to let killers know that you can't play lazily and tunnel me, ask for MORE Anti-Tunnel perks. Come up with some of them on your own, because the more we have, the more DS will disappear.
lol, as if. The more second-chance perks there are, the more will be equipped.
Source: I've been here since launch.
-
I made a thread with what I consider to be a fair DS nerf that would keep it as an anti-tunnel perk, but remove what amounts to 60 seconds of immunity from being rehooked or grabbed.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/153008/fair-ds-nerf

The idea is to limit the graphical options players have available so nobody gains an advantage purely based on those options.

Uninstall the gpu drivers and reinstall.
The same problem.
Curiously it only happens to me with the nurse, I spent about 3 hours playing with other killers/survivors and only frozed with the nurse.
Bug reports and/or trying to get the attention of someone in charge so they can help find out what's wrong?

When your channeling abyss, if you travel through a portal it’s lit up yellow to the demo, and when a survivor is near it a heart beat comes up that the demo can see, and then knows to teleport to. What I’m saying is atm there’s a chance where it’s not visible and gives you a false sense of security
That's called "Killer Instinct".
-
If it's FNAF, I will vomit my own entrails.
-
I agree it's a dick move, but at least hitting you on the hook actually gives you a chance to be unhooked. It's not like teabagging, which occurs when the survivor is safe(ish) and doesn't hinder them in any way.
-
If they got Tony Todd to voice him, I would immediately cream my pants. If they didn't, I'd just go "YES!" so loudly it'd make Krakatoa's blastwave look like a whisper in comparison.

altruism is based off of an initial 50 points that both decreases when something bad happens to your teammates but also you gain points whenever you do safe altruistic actions.
Evader has never really made sense point wise though.
The devs' justification for Evader is that you're not "evading" if you've never even been near the killer. It's not unreasonable.

Its like whatever now, i hope he got punished, i just asked if theres possible to add something to avoid this
So you're not reading what I'm saying, since I've mentioned multiple times that there's no way to be sure you're being targeted for being a streamer unless the person admits it. Got it.

so ur telling me that if he blocks me in a corner cuz he wants to kill me or cuz im a streamer are 2 different things? if they end in the same result why does it matter?
Because sacrificing someone else for your escape is not bannable. It is, in fact, at the very core of the game.
On the other hand, actively targeting someone is griefing and is bannable.

Why is it impossible? I don't get it.
