XD YOU CALLED ME A WRAITH TUNNELER, THATS PRECIOUS.

Buddy I maintain an 80% killrate on Wraith, and not only do I rarely ever tunnel, I even often give the last survivor the "chance" to find hatch, I'm the nicest Wraith you will ever meet, I'm just "ACTUALLY" skilled at the killer I play.

So when I say survivors are pussies, SURVIVORS ARE PUSSIES, cause they can't even handle a killer who will 8 hook them and still beat them.

I remember during the anniversary event this year, when tunneling was at an all time high, I played Wraith and Vecna games so well I would win in 7 minutes, and constantly trigger DS on ppl despite the fact I hooked someone else between them.

Even with me winning game after game, 8 hooking and not tunneling, all I ever got was complaints about how boring the game was or me being a "tryhard", cause apparently just being skilled and winning is tryharding.

Cause to survivors, losing is boring, so why bother playing.

Don't come to me with the whole us vs. them bullshit and tunneling argument.

Two straight up facts for you.

Survivors are pussies, and most killers suck so hard at this game they couldn't beat the average team without tunneling.

I fear you misread their comment…

I'm not defending it, but I am explaining why this idea of punishing without fixing isn't going to work. It never has. I have been around for far too long to let this cycle occur again without pointing it out.

When we had no DC penalty, people would DC constantly, but there were zero hook suicides. When DC penalties got added, there were less DC's but more suicides. Now that suicides are gone, we have DC's everywhere again. All this has done is shift the method without ever addressing the why.

Even if we removed the ability to disconnect entirely, we'd just shift the issue. Why? Because people are still extremely unhappy. That shows this isn't about disconnecting, but about a deeper issue.

    I'm not defending it

You are. You're justifying their grievances and advocating for them to not be further punished. By any metric, that's defending it.

That shows this isn't about disconnecting, but about a deeper issue.

Categorically untrue, and you know how I know that? Because the things these people are disconnecting over are completely trivial. You can play perkless, add-onless Killer and you still get DCs. Your team can be dominating the match and a teammate will still disconnect. Had a match yesterday where I was being rolled by a team as Unknown. They got down to the last generator. I down one of them — DC and I end up winning a match I should've lost.

By your own admisison, Survivors have been giving up (in various ways) since before the DC penalty existed. Which was YEARS ago when Survivor was stronger than ever. I used to share the same mindset as you: address concerns about the game and the giving up will stop. But then I realised that they give up regardless of where game balance currently lies. I realised that they give up regardless of the state of the match. They gave up against original Skull Merchant, and even now that Skull Merchant has no real power — she STILL gets DCs. It's absurd. And because of that I've finally understood that it's nothing short of an attitude problem. It has nothing to do with game balance and everything to do with the fact that the community keeps accepting and justifying this behaviour.

If the developers or the community put their feet down and said "enough is enough" it would stop. 100%. No one would ever justify any other type of rulebreaking under the guise of "it's a symptom of a deeper issue". Hacking isn't tolerated. Harassment isn't tolerated. Chronic giving up should not be either.

Is it enjoyable for you though?  You keep saying to quit playing if you don't enjoy it.  But how long will it be before you quit because of the DC's (or any other issue that leads to DC's that keeps building up the longer it goes unaddressed)?

    This is an… unusual argument.

    “I enjoy this game?”

    “Do you really?”

    lol.

Jokes aside, I’m not going to quit. Ever. That’s been proven by the fact I’ve stuck with this game for almost a decade through worse periods than this.

Thankfully most of them deal with that rationally instead of taking it out on innocent players who have nothing to do with their problems

I haven't read anything so wrong so fast in a while.

The response to phase 2 was absolutely anything but this. I've seen only panic and rage at anything that might actually address any of the reasons behind why people might dc, and the literal meta of "you don't get to play a match".

I've also seen zero actual evidence of issues, not even anecdotal, because it was tested for less than 48 hours and people had already made up their minds 6 months ago when they saw the words "anti tunnel" and "anti slug" in the road map.

Why does this mentality of yours, specifically "if you don't like it just quit" literally only apply to survivors?

Because whenever, and I mean even at the slightest hint, there's a conversation about fixing core issues where killers might have to give for the sake of balance or even game health, the very first thing in every single thread is "you can't do this or we'll all leave" and "the game will die when we quit". So where's this cavalier "just quit" attitude then?

There are some people who can have meaningful conversations, but the loudest voices, the ones that BHVR actually listens to, are anything but "rational" most of the time.

This is just responding to a whole bunch of stuff I didn’t say so I’m not going to entertain most of it.

Why does this mentality of yours, specifically "if you don't like it just quit" literally only apply to survivors?

It doesn’t. Again, I never said this. There are plenty of Killers who could do with taking the same advice. The DCing issue is mostly a Survivor thing though so that’s what we’re talking about here.

"you can't do this or we'll all leave" and "the game will die when we quit". So where's this cavalier "just quit" attitude then?

This comparison doesn’t work. There’s a huge difference between:

    • People who don’t like the fundamentals of a 10-year old game and won’t be happy with it without sweeping changes to the formula. (I.e. people who don’t actually like the game at its core and want it completely redesigned to accommodate them specifically).
    • People who like the game, and have played it as it is for years being upset that it’s receiving sweeping and experimental changes to accommodate groups of players who don’t actually like DbD at its core.

the literal meta of "you don't get to play a match".

This is exactly what I’m talking about. Matches of DbD inherently last a different amount of time for each of the Survivors. That’s just how the game works and if that’s offensive to you then it sounds to me like this game just isn’t your thing. Which is fine but people just need to accept that they don’t like fundamental parts of the game and leave it there.

A lot of the things the chronic DCing crowd complain about are simply unfixable without uprooting the foundations of the game. And considering the game’s age and established player base, attempting to do so would be a horrible idea.

And that’s why I don’t put any stock into the “just address their complaints!” argument. There’s NO way, for instance, to ensure that all Survivors spend a relatively equal amount of time in the match and receive equal attention from the Killer. At least not without turning the game into PvE game where the Killer is just there to follow a prescribed path and babysit the Survivors.

  • Thankfully she'll be receiving another round of nerfs tomorrow, if I'm not mistaken. Although she should've never hit live like this in the first place really.

It certainly is tolerated in other PVP games, least the one's that I play.

Now, other asymms? I cant think of any still alive at this point, I dont think TCM had a DC penalty when I was playing.

Didn't think it was controversial to say that theres a lot of people unhappy with the game. Its fine if you like it, but you gotta read the room. Nobody, not Killers or Survivors, are particularly pleased.

Didn't think it was controversial to say that theres a lot of people unhappy with the game

It's not. There are many people unhappy about many things in this game. Thankfully most of them deal with that rationally instead of taking it out on innocent players who have nothing to do with their problems. What is controversial is disconnecting at the drop of a hat and ruining the match for four other players because "I'm unhappy with the game so everyone else should be too." That's what an increasingly vocal minority have been doing lately and I can't abide it.

That kind of behaviour is inappropriate regardless of how slighted they feel at Survivors/Killers/the devs/whoever. There's no justificaiton for it and defending it is just enabling it.

Ignore the build-up, double-down on punishment.

That's gotten us into this situation, but sure, let's keep going. Will we be making the Anti Go-Next System stricter? Perhaps we should start banning people for bringing off-meta perks.

Eventually, something has to give. Either BHVR runs out of good will/collabs to bring in new players OR they actually innovate and make the game enjoyable. More punishment may hide the issue, temporarily, but without addressing the root cause you only hide the symptoms for a time.

Your take is completely short-sighted and highly reactionary.

“actually […] make the game enjoyable”

The game already is enjoyable. There’s many of us who are very happy playing the game. If you don’t like it then you’re under no obligation to play it. It’s okay to just acknowledge that you don’t like DbD and play something you do enjoy.

You can call me reactionary or whatever you want, but the truth is that this would not be tolerated in any other PvP game. You either play the matches you signed up for, or don’t play. No ifs and buts about it.

  • @Pulsar said:

This attitude that you describe is because nothing was ever done. What you are seeing now is a symptom of ignoring community complaints for half a decade. Not even just about tunneling or camping or whatever, but about how utterly stale the game is. BHVR has largely sat on their ass and watched their competition sabotage themselves, all while raking in cash.

The general playerbase is so burnt out of how ######### the average match is that they literally would rather endure time-out time than play another second of the game.

Saying, "Just quit" isn't even a good solution, because not only are there zero alternatives, but it literally doesn't matter. People have been quitting. BHVR just gets new people to replace them by collabs with more and more popular IP's.

The general playerbase is so burnt out of how ######### the average match is that they literallywould rather endure time-out time than play another second of the game.

Then they should stop queuing idc. People queuing for a game that they don’t enjoy is childish behaviour that I have no empathy for whatsoever. If someone’s response to dissatisfaction with a game is to ruin the game for everyone else then I don’t think they’re worth listening to.

At the very least, I'd think we should at least try giving more autonomy to Survivor and more reasons to stick around before we start blaming them for the state of the game.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4010904#Comment_4010904

This is how I feel too. When the game became a little easier for Killer, camping/tunneling/slugging didn't change. There's no way we can know for sure if giving up would become less frequent if the Survivor role was less awful, but can we at least try and see?

more reasons to stick around before we start blaming them for the state of the game.

The reason to stick around is that you (speaking generally) signed up to play a match when you hit the "ready" button. Simple as. The "giving up" mentality in this community has been going on for too long and I've had enough of it. I used to be lenient and think "Well they were being tunneled so I get their frustration," and the like. But now giving up isn't just reserved for extreme scenarios. It's everything.

Load in? DC. Get found? DC. Get Hit? DC. Hooked? DC. Get Exposed by your own Dramaturgy? DC. Weak Killer? DC. Strong Killer? DC. Good map? DC. Bad map? DC.

Even in the case of camping/tunneling/slugging I don't think it's justified anymore. Because what else did you expect from the game? These have been staple strategies in DbD for the past decade. If you boot up DbD and play anything more than a couple of matches, you KNOW you'll encounter one of these sooner or later. So then why play if you find the common strategies of the game so offensive? It's baffling to me. We can have discussions about whether camping/tunneling/slugging should exist, but the reality of the situation is that, right now, they DO exist. And if you (speaking generally) aren't prepared to handle that in a sportsmanlike manner when it crops up, then you should not queue. These people should wait for the anti-X/Y/Z updates and then give the game another go then.

~33% of my matches have someone DC. And that's not even including AFKing under hooks/running to the killer/griefing etc. because it's harder to track. I'm completely over it. These people have worn down any empathy I had for them, and, by extension, the issues they advocate for.

If you're (speaking generally) frustrated with the state of the game, fine. Understandable. Lots of people are for lots of different reasons. The sensible thing to do in that situation? Stop queuing for it. When BHVR sees the numbers drop they'll get the hint that people aren't happy and do something about it.

But instead of taking the sensible approach, a lot of Survivors have taken to sabotaging their own role. Queing up just to DC and leave the team stranded in an unwinnable game only serves to ruin the other Survivor's experience. It's the worst form of protest they could possible do. The Killer isn't going to say no to an easy win and so the only thing achieved is making the Survivor role worse for everybody else. Either these people like the game, or they don't. But they need to figure it out quickly because they're making it suck for everyone else in the meantime.

  • That Epic Games giveaway was one of the worst ideas they've ever had. Seriously. Can't believe we're still having to suffer from that one bad choice all these years later.

  • Sorry to hear that.

Out of curiosity, are the crashes happening around Exit Gates? There's a bug going around at the moment where Exit Gates can cause FPS drops or crashes (happened to me the other day).

  • @tes said:

I agree with person above. If you really can’t play, better not play at all. You don’t ruin fun for the killer most of the time. First of all, you harming the same surv players, which fun you so zealously defend usually. If you're truly for a healthy game for survivors, you won't personally invest in the exact opposite and participate in a disconnected epidemic.

DC is the most unserious strike you can come up with because it hurts the killers the least, and hurting your own teammates the most. When I play killer, I just laugh seeing some dc on 5 gens. When I see this as survivor, I seriously starting hating this game at this most, despite being usually extremely patient. And it literally kills any desire to play altruistically later. Some people don’t realise they contribute to survivor role being unfun themselves

Exactly. Everyone knows the Survivor role has issues that need solved, and so it’s understandable to be frustrated. But if people can’t channel that frustration healthily, then they need to stop playing.

By loading into match after match and instant DCing, they’re just ruining the experience for every other Survivor and giving the Killer an easy win. They’ll complain that they’re only DCing because “Survivor sucks” but half the reason it sucks in the first place is because of teammates giving up all of the time! They’re their own worst enemies and they don’t even realise it.

I used to be quite lenient about DCs/giveups but my patience for it has worn thin and I have very little empathy left for the chronic giving up crowd. Players who ready up knowing they’re probably going to DC and leave their teammates stranded are just as bad as the campers/tunnelers/sluggers they advocate against.

Telling survivors to stop playing isn't going to fix anything either. That's a surefire way to kill the game, and that's the last thing we want.

Survivors who DC every match are contributing nothing to the game. They can all leave for all I care.

There's plenty of us who actually like the game who will happily take their place 👍️

  • @AmpersandUnderscore said:

Disconnecting is annoying and people shouldn't do it.

For me, this is just solid proof that the "go next" update was listening to the wrong people. Just punish them is the wrong solution.

They haven't addressed the main reason why people disconnect, which is that the match is generally over if you're the first person found.

They finally, finally after 9 years agreed to look at tunneling, and pulled it immediately. That seems a pretty clear message that they don't care to actually fix anything about the issue if the loudest voices complain (and they absolutely did).

I'm not even saying that the changes were perfect, they weren't, but as of right now there's no ETA, no communication, and it's sounds like they're going back to the drawing board. So, maybe at least another year before we get only the part of the list the loud people wanted (Killer buffs that demonstrably won't fix anything).

Only 1 match included tunneling (blight), there was no slugging, no camping

Well, you can't say that because the match changes after a disconnect. The match changes instantly at that moment.

Some killers will focus a player because the bot is basically useless, and some players will go easier on the remaining survivors because a disconnect sucks and an early dc already basically guarantees the killer a win.

If people are disconnecting on first down, which is almost all of these... It's because they're expecting to be tunneled out. They are conditioned by the game and the meta "strategy" of tunneling that "well, bad luck you got found first, but maybe you get to play the next match instead".

But instead of being able to fix that, we have to discuss how to punish people further.

Sorry I'm not accepting this excuse any longer of "Well they didn't address the reasons why people go next."

The game has been out almost a decade at this point — people are well aware of how it is often played (e.g. tunneling and camping) and if they don't want to risk encountering that, then they shouldn't queue.

Do I like going against hard tunnelers? No. Do I think it should be addressed? Probably. But right now it's still and possibility, as it has been for the past decade, and getting tunneled is a risk I CHOOSE to take when I load up the game, and hit the ready up button. If people aren't enjoying Survivor, for whatever reason, then they should STOP PLAYING IT instead of ruining it for those of us who still like it.

Survivors DCing ruins more Survivor matches than tunneling or camping ever could.

  • I know this advice is so generic and you've probably already tried it, but I'll put it here anyways in case it could help someone. I've had issues with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in the past and "sfc /scannow" fixed it up for me.

I hope you're able to get this fixed. Tech issues are so frustrating :(

It's licensed so I can't say it's entirely BHVR's fault, but Jill's lore of "She escapes from Nemesis, runs into a basement and opens a chest, only to surface in the realm 😱 " is criminal to me.

Yeah the Resident Evil x DbD lore was not good… Not sure whether BHVR or Capcom is to blame for it, but it was laughable either way. I think it would've actually been better to leave the circumstances of their entry to the realm up to the imagination if they couldn't (for licensing or other reasons) come up with anything more interesting.

Let me guess, you haven't read the additional tome lores of the character and are solely judging her lore purely based on her base lore alone.

I've read all of the Tomes bar the stuff they released over the past couple of weeks, thank you. No need to come in swinging.

  • The premise would interest me, but the quality of the writing would be a concern for me.

Sadly, DbD's lore is riddled with spelling mistakes, contradictions, and odd editorial and narrative choices.

  • Hag's lore isn't great but I don't think she's the most poorly handled. I'd give that award to Artist's lore.

  • I don't enjoy him at all.

I thought his power might appeal to me since he has a similar map traversal ability to Onryo (my main) and better stealth than her, but he's just SO sluggish and unwieldy.

The constant swapping between being 110% and 115% is off-putting and his axe has an unnatural weight to it that I just cannot seem to get used to.

  • I had a crash earlier with a very similar message, just different numbers on the end. I turned my PC off and on again and haven't encountered it since thankfully.

If that doesn't work, you could try verifying the integrity of the game files (provided you're playing on Steam). That's resolved issues for me in the past before.

  • Yep. Been trying to make this perk work for the past couple of days, but it's beyond bad. One of the worst designed perks of all time. Too many requirements, too RNG-dependent, and too limited of an effect.

    Needs totally reworked.

I agree with that. On the ptb, people had no problem with her auto aim and thought she was balanced. I think she should be reverted to her ptb version but with the current mushroom amount. Every other change just made her broken.

This sounds very reasonable to me.

  • I think it would be okayish if landing the projectile didn’t guarantee an incredibly quick death. But with her chase power being so strong, the only thing standing in the Krasue’s way is the need to infect Survivors beforehand. And the auto-aim just completely trivialises that.

She needs to either have auto-aim but a much weaker head form, or no auto-aim and a stronger head form.

    Both is too much.

  • @SoGo said:

I really think they should roll back the anti-go next detection system forever.

They proved twice by now that it does not work.

    Agreed.

An automated system is never, I repeat, NEVER going to be able to accurately determine whether a player was intentionally throwing or just had a bad match (either due to tunneling or an accidental misplay). I understand the goal of the system, but its unworkable in a game like DbD that has so many variables.

Scrap it and go back to the drawing board.

  • I actually really like it, although I can see what you all mean about it being cartoony.

  • Leatherface. I play a lot of different Killers but I haven’t touched him in years. Not even sure what I dislike about him, I just find his power so boring. He’s just a dilute version of Hillbilly to me.

  • Happening to me on PC too.

  • Had my preset names and the perks themselves be reset twice now. Happened once a few weeks back and again with the Sinister Grace update. Kinda annoying.

  • Hard to pick just one to be honest. We have a lot of poorly designed maps.

I think I’ll probably go with Hawkins though. I’ve hated that map ever since it came out as both roles.

  • Of course not. Disagreement is good — it’s the point of a discussion forum. But sadly that’s not what everyone uses downvotes for. There’s some people who just downvote anything they see by X user they dislike, or anything that doesn’t benefit their preferred role etc.

They’re too easily weaponised, which is why they were removed years ago. It’s only recently they decided to bring them back.

Not to mention that, for whatever reason, threads that get some arbitrary amount of downvotes simply do not get pushed back up anymore.

    Like, that's borderline censorship?

The system might work for other forums, but it’s such a bad idea for an asymmetric game forum. Like, you have two opposing sides of different strengths who rarely see eye to eye on issues as a result of having a fundamentally different game experiences. So naturally, any post that seemingly “favours” one side, attracts the ire (and downvotes) of the other, even if what’s being said is perfectly reasonable.

The recent anti-Tunneling/slugging fiasco is the perfect example of this. If you said you like parts of the system: downvoted. If you said you don’t like parts of the system: downvoted. If you didn’t care: downvoted. There’s no winning lol, and it’s like this for every issue these days.

  • Protecting your happiness is always the best decision, although I’m sorry to see you go friend. Wishing you all the best <3

Absolutely agree. I’ve been around these forums long enough to remember their removal way back when and that they said they would “never” bring them back. I don’t understand why they’ve reverted course.

All it does is foster negativity and discourage discussion, which is antithetical to a discussion board. Seriously, the number of times I’ll try and offer a measured opinion and get hit with 5, 10, 20+ downvotes but zero replies is so demoralising. Like what happened to the actual discussion? Everyone just downvotes and moves on.

How long is appropriate before they should killswitch, took them 6 months to get rid of kidnap tech from the ghoul, I would rather them disable this killer until it is fixed rather then the issue run rampant for months and she ends up being one of the killers that is just universally hated by survivors because they took to long to fix them.

imo they should just revert the game back to before the dlc came out and have a emergency fix done in a week or something because a bunch of issues coming from this update not just to do with Krasuse.

having the anti slugging and tunneling updates in the same ptb as a new killer has ruined her release

It’s inappropriate because the kill switch is for bugs, not balance issues.

  • They've definitely tried given how often this gets requested and the developer's previous ties to the Scooby Doo license. Sadly, I imagine the license holders aren't keen on the idea of putting their family-friendly IP in a violent game like DbD. IIRC this was actually confirmed (or at least heavily implied) in a developer interview some years back.

Of course, things can change. But I wouldn't hold my breath on Scooby Doo coming to DbD.

Sure. But you could also just let the killer leave and all that stuff is irrelevant. You want to stay at the exit gate to buy your teammate time. The killer leaves. Congratulations! You've bought them the entire EGC duration.

That point might be relevant if this post were about punitive measures for survivors staying in the gate. It's not.

I was literally in support of your idea but okay whatever

  • Forcing the Killer to push you out actually does have a gameplay purpose. It wastes the Killer's time to let your teammates across the map get the other gate open (or whatever else) safely.

Outside of that though, it is often used for taunting and I wouldn't mind the Abandon system covering these situations.

    • I agree OTR needs an immediate revert. Removing its Endurance before the anti-tunneling system comes out is nonsensical.
    • Killers seeing hook states is kind of a nothing burger IMO. People seem pretty polarised about it, but I don't think it makes any meaningful difference to tunneling. It's not like counting to 2 is particularly difficult.
    • Krasue does need some revisions, although I don't think the kill switch would be appropriate here.
  • Yes! Revert this too. No reason this should’ve came out without the larger changes to slugging.

  • Tuft of Hair is yellow (oh no, GREEN actually)

Glad I’m not the only one who still refers to this tier of rarity as yellow lol.

Jokes aside, I agree with you!
