Yeah, I kind of hate the new version.

    Tenacity too.

OTR, Leverage, and Monitor changes are insanity.

If BHVR is going to try and make major changes to the game like removing haste stacking or anti-tunnel. They need to do it all comprehensively and at all at once.

BHVR can't make major changes to the game like this and only update a few perks at a time. Haste changes might not have been rejected so strongly if BHVR actually spent the time to update all the affected perks, killers, and add-ons.

Leaving in the perk changes that were clearly changed to work with the anti-tunnel changes is just lazy. This community deserves better than this.

It’s a huge, huge, HUGE oversight.

  • @ReverseVelocity said:

I thought the OTR change was only meant to be released alongside the anti-tunnel changes. That change should've been postponed with it.

Yeah it was inappropriate for them to push the OTR nerf to live this soon. Needs reverted until the anti-Tunneling system comes back (in whatever form it does).

In all fairness, the survivor role usually always gets the lamer powers in most other events

I mean Killers getting remote hooking and remote pallet breaking compared to the survivor powers during the anniversary event for example

Then again, you could argue a power centered around generators is pretty lame because "gens = boring".

I mean true, but is the solution to that not to give BOTH sides something interesting. Rather than just swap which role has the shiny new toy?

  • It is, especially when paired with a Toolbox, but Hyperfocus is made SO much stronger by Stake Out (or other synergistic perks) that basically no one who has access to those other perks ever runs it on its own. Those who do run it on its own are often cheaters, who use it as a cover for volatile generator speeds.

Completely incorrect, there is a difference between a problem existing, one person complaining/not about the problem and the playerbase at large complaining/not about it. Each can exist without the other. As people will complain about non-problems as is.

To sum it up, a problem doesn’t require someone to point it out in order to exist.
Even if the large majority didn't complain does not mean there isn't a problem. Many often don't see problems even in plain sight.

Either way that OP meant it, Slugging could still be a problem event if nobody complain about.
and as I showed, people HAVE BEEN clocking that problem since long time ago.

So you pointing out people didnt care about the problem back then (some did and some didnt) does not mean it wasn't a problem.

This response is so overly concerned with semantics, to the point that the logic cannibalises itself.

there is a difference between a problem existing, one person complaining/not about the problem and the playerbase at large complaining/not about it. Each can exist without the other. As people will complain about non-problems as is.

If we take this to be true then your referral back to that 2016 post of someone pointing out the problem is completely redundant. For what significance does someone pointing out a problem exists have if the existence of the problem is entirely separate from the population who experience it? None.

  • @Emeal said:

To begin with, I think I missed the point when slugging began to be "problem" along with campingtunneling, because literally all my 6 years in this game I never heard any complains about it and everyone understood perfectly well that it's just part of gameplay, but suddenly in last year survivors began to classify it as "unfun gameplay".

Your assessment of the past is untrue, the problem of slugging has been described as far back as 2016.
You can easily check this by searching for "slugging" and looking at the least newest pages.
They called it "Bleedout Killers" back then. 😅

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/QH4CLGNDSFBM/image.png

But no, this problem was clocked back in 2016. Me thinks you have not really gone looking for complaints about it.

You've conveniently cut away the responses, which are pretty unanimous (and reflective of the playerbase at large during this time period), that slugging was not a problem. Of course, you'll always be able to find a few people who complained about X, Y, or Z, as far back as 2016, but the average player back then was much more indifferent to slugging than they are now — as evidenced by the replies.

OP's assessment of the past is valid. While it isn't absolutely true to say "no one cared about slugging at all in the past", I don't think that's the point they were trying to make. The point was that slugging was not the hot button issue it is today, and was often seen as simply being part of the game.

Ig its a good perk with resi when using invocations (like weaving spider)

Not really. It's a huge giveaway of your entire build.

If you're running No Mither, you're probably doing Invocations. I always check basement straight away if I see No Mither and usually end up with a free down because of it.

  • @VibranToucan said:

I really wish they'd just put a hook in the downstairs area if basement isn't here. Even if you move in an effecient path to the closest hook, one bodyblock/sabo is enough to ensure the wiggle out.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that!

The downstairs of main is such a problematic part of this map. When the basement spawns there, it's almost impossible for Survivors to safely rescue from it. But when basement doesn't spawn, it's a complete deadzone and can give free wiggles to the Survivors. Honestly I think they should remove it as a possible basement location and just place a static hook down there. Put the basement in the two-storey house or something.

  • @SigmaLord said:

Lmfao you gotta love the dislikes this guy is getting for pointing out an absolutely broken map.

they’ve been giving me this map every 3 games and it’s torture playing M1 killers. Even Wesker.

Yeah, I've seen it a lot these past few days. I'm really hoping that after they've addressed some of the deadzone-heavy maps in the coming update, that they look at some of the maps that have the opposite problem of too much safety. Garden of Joy, The Game, and Badham, are probably the worst offenders.

  • There are plenty of uses of AI that are not theft.

  • Still waiting for Billy Coen. I need to see Billy and Rebecca reunited again :)

Also would love a Krauser legendary for one of the Killers.

  • I don't think it's been disabled — I just don't think there was ever a robust system to validate hits in the first place. This has been an ongoing problem for years, that they only made worse by removing the ability to view the Killer's ping in the lobby.

Until they implement a decent hit validation system, you should be free to abandon against players who have crazy ping IMO.

  • I don't know. I'm honestly just confused about the auto aim situation in DbD because every time a developer comments on it they give a convoluted explanation of how it's not auto aim — it's aim dressing. Which, to me, sounds like the exact same thing but apparently there's an important enough distinction between the two to warrant correcting the language.

Semantics aside, all I know is that I semi-regularly get robbed of hits because the game snaps my camera in the wrong direction or turns my lunge attacks into quick attacks, and I really wish it wouldn't do either. But they seem incredibly reluctant to change it for some reason.

  • These are all very wearable. Congrats to the winners!

  • Yeah, this add-on is horribly designed. I don't think it can be saved with anything other than a complete rework.

  • Steagull is one of the most unfunny memes this community has produced. It's funny maybe the first couple of times you encounter it, but after YEARS of the same joke, I just find it old and annoying.

Moreso when I'm playing Survivor. If I'd known you were going to throw the whole match for a stale joke, I would've just dodged the lobby. Like I understand not everyone was around to experience these things on release, but oh man it's trite at this point.

  • I'm going to be frank here (no pun intended), but there is no potential here.

TCoFS underperformed. As soon as the middling/poor reviews came in, Frank Stone's fate was sealed. No sane company is going to make a whole Chapter based off a game that failed.

Hearing from you, means a lot to me. Truly. Thank you so much for your support and listening.

Not that BHVR needs it, but I just want people to know my frustration, and why we are doing operational health to begin with, because this quality experience should be WAY better. This current state should have never been tolerated, respectfully and I am really glad BHVR has basically said “Yeah, enough is enough! We are cleaning up!”and I thank them that. Looking forward to seeing the results

    Of course <3

I'm just glad there's someone still advocating for Portia and Snug.

  • I would upvote this one hundred times if I could. Houndmaster is a killer I REALLY want to love. I've wanted a pirate Killer for so long, and the concept of the power is great, but she's just so clunky :(

I played her a lot after she came out, enough to get her to P9, before I sadly had to call it quits. Her power bugs out more than it actually works. Here's to hoping she gets some TLC as part of the upcoming operation health stuff.

Who said tunneling wasn't a problem? They delayed the chnages cus they were too extreme and punishing for killers.

They know this. People around here are just intentionally misconstruing the situation to play into a victim narrative.

The developers were very clear that the systems will be returning after being tweaked. People are intentionally ignoring that because it doesn't fit their agenda. And it's painfully obvious because no one will comment on it further than issuing downvotes to anyone who points it out.

I think at some stage, the survivors will eventually reach a breaking point, and there will be no turning back from that point onwards.

I mean, case in point, we saw what happened with the first new survivor item that got added in like 9 years. It got gutted to the point where it is pretty much meaningless. It was supposed to be an incentive to reduce the usage of toolboxes and medkits, but look what happened, and you still see mostly toolboxes and medkits.

Meanwhile, there has been a huge uptick in killers "protesting" by slugging all 4 survivors, bleeding them out while humping on them. Is that defined as fun for the receiving end?
And people still question why survivor players are quitting?

Fog Vials are bugged. On some maps they're completely opaque and on others they do almost nothing. They're impossible to balance until they equalise the effect across maps.

I completely agree. My favourite thing about this madness:
People who understand this game reading Devs Notes:
    - Yeah, it's absolutely gamebreaking, with no doubt
    - Guys let's wait for patch note, it can be fine

    People reading patch:
    - Yeah, no difference at all, this changes will ruin the game completely, like we said before
    - But let's play with it, test it, maybe it's not that awful
    - We like have eyes and brain, but ok

    People after playing PTB:
    - We even more sure that this will be disaster for the game after testing it
    - STINKY KILLER MAINS DOOMPOSTING AND ALWAYS GET WHAT THEY WANT HOW DARE YOU BHVR
Literally all 50/50 players: - Ok buddy

What about scenarios: right now i'm writing a big post in hope to reach devs about slugging, because I don't believe it can be fair in any way implemented, no matter what number will be, simply because game is designed around slugging a lot. Killer powers, perks on both sides, risk and reward play, overall game balance, all these things tied to slugging so much, that I don't understand how it's possible to add this mechanic without destroying a lot of macro plays and eliminate skill and decision making on both sides with unfair rewards for mistakes for one side and unfair punishment for good play for other side.

Anti-tunnel, yeah, it has potential to be good for the game with right numbers and lead to win-win for both sides, but anti-slugging, I believe, will ruin a lot of stuff I love about this game.

I'll keep an eye out for the post! The more detailed feedback they get, the better :)

  • @fussy said:

All these posts prove once again how poorly most players understand what game they are playing at all. There is absolutely nothing about "us vs them" here, if you are truly convinced that changes on the PTB would not lead to disaster (not to mention the fact that someone considers them even good), you literally do not understand what you are playing, even superficially.

    • Open the DbD forums
    • See a post with the sentiment "survivors can't have anything nice."
    • Open the thread and see that the "nice" thing in question is the opposing role being so completely obliterated that only the top ~5 Killers would be viable.
    • Lol

Jokes aside, It's actually incredibly frustrating the amount of people who are staunchly defending the PTB changes, even when confronted by the ojective reality that the system had major oversights that rendered it unable to be safely pushed to live. It's not even a matter of opinion — it is a verifiable fact that the system failed to account for an unacceptable number of things.

Take Twins for example, a Killer whose power is completely reliant on slugging. Given that the anti-slugging system completely removes slugging as a viable strategy, you'd expect Twins to receive some kind of a rework, compensatory buff, or exception to the system to keep them playable despite the changes. Did this happen? No. It was overlooked.

What about trap Killers whose powers facilitate controlling an area of the map, making it difficult to reliably use the unique hook bonuses. Were they accounted for? No, it was overlooked. Meaning their ability to defend generators would be considerably weaker due to the perks being nerfed and their inability to utilise the unique hook benefits.

What about perks like Breakdown which make Survivors unhookable? Surely the anti-slugging system wouldn't punish Killers for slugging when the Survivors are the ones who forced the Killer's hand. Nope. Again, it was overlooked.

What about Killers who cannot choose which Survivors they kill? Onryo and Pig have little control over who dies to their power as the counterplay is in the hands of the Survivors. Surely they won't be punished for Survivors' misplays? Nope. The system didn't account for that.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

It's actually scary how many people just refuse to engage when you bring these up. Instead of going "Alright yeah, that's an oversight that needs ironed out.", they hit you with a downvote and bury their head in the sand so they can continue pushing the narrative that this was unreasonable Killer mains on a crusade to make Survivor as awful as possible. Like, no… Lots of us also play Survivor, and also want to see improvements come to the role. But this was clearly not a good implementation of that and needs further work.

People are acting like BHVR has completely scrapped and and all possible improvements for Survivor, when it was very clear in their statement that they've just temporarily pushed them back. It's exhausting.

see i just dont agree. its obvious a lot of people are at their wits end.

Then we can simply wait and see. The game will pull the same numbers it always has, probably even grow with the release of the new Chapter, and nothing will change. As has been the case with every other instance of players threatening to quit en masse or boycott.

Except it won't. People have been threatening this for eight years now, and its yet to materialise into anything consequential. It's clear at this point that threats to quit or boycott are largely meaningless — most of the people who do so will be back within several weeks.

"Loud minority of doomer killer mains"… lmao for real? If these changes were only active against Nurse, I'd say yeh go for it… but theres almost 38 other killers out there, barely keeping up with the meta :D

PS: I almost added Blight after I typed Nurse, but then I remembered a few days ago the best killer in the world (comp) was playing the arguably best killer in the game (Blight), He had to fight tooth and nails, sweat blood to even get a 2k against a lobby of survivors that was even heavily restricted in their perk and item use (comp rules)… So in what reality would you say PTB was ok? Honest question.

People will downvote you for this, but no one will actually make a valid rebuttal because you're verifiably correct, and it annoys them considerably that you are.

can we? i havent played in a week so far. dont really have much incentive to come back any time soon.

Then don't. Or do. It makes no difference. There's plenty of us who will stil play Survivor in the interim. @Crowman is correct. The game has lastest long enough without an anti-slugging or anti-tunneling system, that it won't hurt to wait a couple of months longer for them to fine tune it.

All of this doomposting is silly. In the eight years I've played this game, not once has anyone ever been even slightly correct about something "killing" (or at least hurting in the long run) DbD. Competition hasn't. Bad balance changes haven't. Bugs haven't. And neither will this. It's just more forum hysterics.

  • They’re not impossible to hit. I regularly use Hyperfocus and can hit the first 5 very consistently.

  • We don't know.

One of this game's biggest problems is that BHVR can't seem to make up their mind about how they want the game to be played.

Sometimes they balance around the highest level of play, and introduce features you'd expect in a competitive setting (such as MMR).

And other times they balance around low-level casual play (e.g. the continued existence of Nurse is because of this).

They flip-flop between stances depending upon what is convenient at the time, as well as prevailing community consensus (which is as flippant as the wind around here).

  • @CrossTheSholf said:

Yep. The sheer number of people advocating for a clearly underbaked system like that to hit live servers is actually scary.

It's been eye opening to see how many people around here do not understand the game at all.

so shoutout to the devs for pulling out a carpet pull

The PTB stands for public TEST build. These features were never guaranteed to be coming to live in the next update, and the fact they aren't has nothing to do with the "toxic parts of the community". It has everything to do with the fact that these changes were objectively NOT ready for a live release. That's the whole point of the point of a TEST build. They try out a feature, and if it works, it comes to live, and if it doesn't they postpone it for further work (which they've done here) or scrap it entirely (which they have NOT done here).

People reading the postponement as an endorsement of tunneling either don't understand the purpose of a test build or a willfully misconstruing things.

  • @foxofthestars said:

I think survivors need to ######### and complain like the killers did. Maybe then they'll bring the changes back. Honestly IMO I can't believe that they're not moving forward with it. They didn't even wait to let console players have a chance at trying out the new changes.

There was an entire player base out there who's opinions got left out. 😐

Just a little FYI before anyone comes at me saying survivor main console player i play 50/50 and play on PC.

Maybe then they'll bring the changes back

This is more directed @ the entire topic, but I'm using this comment to bounce off of. They are bringing the changes back. It feels like people around here haven't actually read the statement that was put out? They're taking the time to iron out some very rough edges, and then we'll get the systems back to test in a future PTB. The systems we had punished scenarios far outside the scope of simply being "anti-tunnel" or "anti-slug" and a number of Killers had their entire kits rendered useless due to oversights (Legion and Twins to name a couple). It's very clear to anyone who isn't incredibly biased that these changes were not yet suitable for a live release. Which is why they made the correct call to postpone things.

I'd understand this kind of backlash if they'd said "Yep, we're scrapping the changes and never going to do anything ever again to try and combat these issues." But that's clearly not what happened.

They didn't even wait to let console players have a chance at trying out the new changes.

This gets brought up every time we have a PTB and every time we have to reiterate the same response — this is the fault of the companies that make the consoles NOT BHVR. Unlike Steam, console platforms require expensive and time-consuming certification processes for updates that aren't feasible to go through for one week or so worth of testing. In an ideal world, everyone would be able to test the PTB, but BHVR can't realistically make that happen. The ball lies in the court of console companies for that — complain to them if it's something you want.

  • These cosmetics were great, I'd be happy to see more of them.

  • Congrats. These achievements are kinda rough now. I was lucky to get it quite quickly after the map came out.

  • Not sure why these suggestions always get downvoted. Seems like an innocent QoL change. Is there something I'm missing? Some way this could be abused?

  • I had fun using the power. I like that you have control over how far you dash, it distinguishes it from other similar powers nicely.

However, it didn't feel like Myers' power. It's not thematically fitting, and he played so differently than his live version that I'm concerned he's lost his identity with this rework.

You say that while talking about the ptb that did the same to killer. You don't want it fixed you just want to make killers miserable for a perceived slight

Absolutely. I'm firmly in the camp that extreme tunneling and slugging need to go. They make Survivor (which can already be very unpleasant in solo queue) an even worse experience, but these changes were SO overboard that they just made Killer overall horrible. Simply shifting problems from one side to the other helps no one — at that point it's about vengence and not game balance.

    Absolutely my friend 💯

I also read your post this morning and upvoted it. Very detailed. I wrote up my own as well, as I learn more and more about all the details the more my opinion is shifting to understanding that these changes were an obvious issue.

Just gave your posts a look though — very much agree. I think I forgot to mention the Krasue's add-ons in my post, but you're completely right that a lot of them are very samey. Would like to see more variety when she hits live.

  • Clock it. BHVR made the right decision here. Anything else would've actually murdered the player count. I've played this game consistently since 2016 (as both roles), and these changes being pushed to live would've been the last time you ever saw me in the Fog, and I imagine the same is true for MANY other players given the overwhelmingly negative reception to this PTB.

  • If your definition of "healthy" is completely killing the game then sure.

  • Only on the DbD forums would the developers rightly postponing an underbaked system be construed as "pathetic" and "cowardly". Like come on guys, the game has survived without these systems long enough that you can wait a few months for them to perfect it before pushing it out. Because I can guarantee that if they pushed it out as is, y'all would be the first ones to complain about how you're only seeing Nurse.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/456164/feels-too-punishing-for-killers-what-kind-of-pathetic-excuse-is-this

Plain and simple. It was way too punishing for killers. I spent hours on that PTB being punished when I wasn’t even tunneling. Hours. Let’s be so for real. Even the survivors AGREED with me in the PTB itself.

Go play killer on there for a day or so. Then come back to me

Go play killer on there for a day or so. Then come back to me

These people don't play Killer, at least not consistently enough to understand the VERY obvious and flaws and oversights of the systems on the PTB. They don't see us as real players who value our own experience just as much as they do. Instead, we're just a tool to facilitate THEIR experience of the game. Which is why they don't care whatsoever that the proposed PTB changes would have completely nuked the role.

  • I’m concerned about some of the coming changes, and excited about others. The changes are so big that it’s hard to definitively say how they’ll feel without having them in our hands, so I’m looking forward to giving them a go.

Mostly I’m excited for the new Chapter though. I’ve wanted a Thai chapter ever since HSH:S died, so I’m so happy we’re finally getting one :)

I think it is a lot more casual, chill and generally speaking more enjoyable :) takes a lot of the uncontrollable out of the game since you have more mates which means you can have 1-2 more competent teammates :) which makes the whole game a lot more playable and less frustrating

That’s valid. I’m glad you enjoy it. It’s just not my cup of tea.

  • Personally, I don’t think it is. The gameplay loop in both modes is the same for survivors, just with less content in 2v8. No perks, fewer maps, fewer killers to face, no items, no addons, no offerings.

I don't see any of this as a viable argument, honestly.

If eliminating a player early wasn't worthwhile, we wouldn't be in a situation where tunneling is not just meta, but out of control.

You're creating this hypothetical scenario where survivors are basically brain dead idiots, and you expect that isn't just going to be a free win?

In what world do you have Schrodinger's survivors where one is capable of nothing but errors, yet the other three are so cracked that you're going to have a massively difficult game winning an early 1v3.

You also seem to be missing that this only turns things off if the "idiot" survivor was the last one hooked. So in the "worst case scenario", slug him, hook someone else in 90 seconds and go mori him. This is entirely within the killers control.

In what world do you have Schrodinger's survivors where one is capable of nothing but errors, yet the other three are so cracked

The world in which DbD has a barely functioning MMR system, aka this world. It’s not uncommon for one or two survivors on a team to be noticeably less experienced than the Killer and their teammates. Not necessarily to the point of being “brain dead idiots” (a very extreme interpretation of what I said) but enough for them to make poor decisions or not engage with some of the rarer Killer’s counterplay due to inexperience.

It’s one of the reasons solo queue is so complained about — because experienced players get paired with teammates who repeatedly make rookie errors. Is it every match? No. Does it happen regularly? Yes.

that you're going to have a massively difficult game winning an early 1v3.

Notice that I never mentioned winning. Realistically, unless the numbers are crazy, the 1v3 is still going to be massively in the Killer’s favour. I’m not complaining about that, I’m complaining about the awkward stop-and-start gameplay that could arise from this.

So in the "worst case scenario", slug him, hook someone else in 90 seconds and go mori him.

This is what I’m concerned about. Having to do this song and dance to avoid being punished for a Survivor’s misplay is silly.

Reading the notes, you'd have to eliminate the "last player hooked" specifically, and before 6 hooks.

So even if this triggers, you can insta down the condemned survivor, hook someone else, then come back and mori to bypass the penalty. This is entirely within the killers control.

But why should the Killer have to go out of their way to accommodate a Survivor’s mistake? And not just a simple mistake at that, but one they’ve made repeatedly throughout the match.

You have to be throwing to get Condemned versus the average Onryō, I just don’t see why they should be given a potential second chance in this situation.

I don’t know, maybe I’m biased because I’m an Onryō player, but these changes do seem like they’ll unfairly affect Pig and Onryō, where an early death is usually the Survivor’s fault.

  • I believe they said that recently unhooked survivors will have no collision, so they shouldn’t be able to bodyblock.

I guess they could still drop pallets or find another method to get in your way. It’s something I think we’ll have to test on the PTB first.
