Looks like desync. Happens when there's a difference in a player's location between the game server and the player client due to poor connection.

Cool story? I already know we don't agree on this topic my guy, so why bother? So you don't have more time than others. I work from home, so it makes no difference to me. Don't know what else you want me to say…
Why bother? To point out the lack of consideration for other players on display in these threads. I can guarantee you, there's a lot of other players in the same boat as me who can't (or won't) wait in longer queues to play DbD, and despite knowing this, you guys still insist throwing away our ability to play the game is preferable if it means you get to keep 2v8.
Every time this gets pointed out the response is "well just wait 15 minutes" or "oh doesn't affect me because I work from home." And honestly, it's such an inconsiderate attitude, that I can't not comment.
-
Typically whoever is closest. Although if there’s someone who obviously wants me to chase them (think bright clothes and taunting username) I’ll happily take a survivor who is a little further away.

You can play killer. You just have to wait 15 minutes. There is a difference.
Also…The feedback for 2v8 was well received. I think we'll see another test run or two in time, with more additions as well as suggested changes. I definitely believe a permanent is possible.. Someday.

My guy, you might have the time to wait 15 minutes per match but we don't. I often don't have long windows of time in which I can play match after match. With short queues, I can hop on to play a match as and when I get 20 minutes free to do so. Long queue times completely alienate myself and other players like me.

It's not a success with this killer, because I can't PLAY killer.
Waiting 15/20 minutes for a 4 minute game is prohibitive. It may be fun, but that doesn't mean ######### if I can't get a game to begin with.
I can't play killer in either mode without suffering through unreasonable queue times. As far as I'm concerned, this mode is NOT a success.

There’s something VERY ironic about waving goodbye to players with one hand while readying up for your shiny new mode that needs double the players with the other hand 🤣🤣

If these queue times for killer were a permanent thing I would 100% quit DBD regardless of how much money & time I've put into it. I want fast back to back games that I can spend 2-3 hours sessions playing not 2 games on average every hour.
I second this. In the time it takes to play ~3 DbD matches with these current queues, I can play like 10+ MK challenges in The Outlast Trials.
If they make 2v8 permanent and the queue times don’t improve, I will 100% drop DbD.

I experienced that same thing. Except, I know why the Wraith chose me. The Huntress was nice, I ran around with her a bit. The Wraith seemed to be playing kinda normal, so I got in a chase with him and attempted a blind (stupid challenges). I totally failed the blind and got downed, but I guess failing wasn't enough and he stayed on me, downed me again, and forced everyone else out before caging me. Yay.
I understand killers wanting me dead when I achieve the blind, but when I'm terrible at chase and terrible at blinds what does it prove to let everyone else go and kill me? Just seemed unnecessary.
Even if you got the blind, that wouldn’t be a valid reason to tunnel you out IMO.
I have no idea what I did. They were nodding with a Sable but as soon as they saw me they chased, downed, and caged. Maybe they like Sable but not Bill.

How are the waiting times for a game?
Upwards of 10-15 minutes for killer :/
So not really worth it to be honest. -

Those Stats are dead. The live service has been shutdown for a couple of years
Oh well I’m glad we’re using a dead game that lasted 3 years as an example of how splitting player queues is a non issue for longevity.

Disabling the 1v4 incentive was necessary. It’s not going anywhere. Collecting data on 2v8 was necessary. Putting the BP incentive, was necessary. It wasn’t a bribe.
Is it a bribe when they throw up 100% survivor during the day but all I wanna do is play killer? No…bp goes where the traffic is needed to help queue times. It was just a means to help the queue.
People are taking this SOOOO personal and it’s not. Blows my mind.
Battlefront 2 had half the player base but could delegate multiple game modes Galaxtic Assault 20v20 Capital Supremacy 20v20 HeroesVsVillians 4v4 Ewok Hunt 20 players, Blast Mode. 10v10.Dbd with a bigger player base can handle 1v4 and 2v8.
This was a trial run. Next run they can work out the queue times among everything else they mentioned.Funny you should mention Battlefront. Can’t speak on the second game because I never played it, but the reason I left the first one is because I could never find a game 🤣
Doesn’t look like the second is doing so great either…
If DbD wants to go down that route, I wish them well, but they’ll be doing it without me.

Not sure how it's been a success tbh, success to me would be players of both sides taking part. With the long wait times for killers and the 400% incentive for survivors I wouldn't say it's been an overall success. Success for killers maybe but I would argue a bit of a flop with survivors as a whole
2v8 could set your console on fire and people would still celebrate it as a success because otherwise the years of begging for it will have been for nothing.

This isn’t a permanent issue. This is just the first iteration and again it’s a very easy fix.
It’s not complicated and that’s why the devs aren’t worried about it.It should never have been an issue in the first place. Having to disable 1v4 incentives and bribe survivors with unprecedented BP bonuses in the 2v8 mode shows a completely lack of foresight from BHVR and a massive lack of respect for those of us who just want to play the regular mode 👍
Not to mention just how horrendously buggy DbD has been as of late. I’ve always maintained that diverting players and resources away from the main game was a bad idea and I’m yet to be proven wrong.

You’re hung up on “Queue times”
It’s an easy fix. It really is. It’s not happening in this iteration, it’ll happen in the next.
I’m not pretending it isnt an issue, but I am not closed minded either and I am able to think logically outside the box.
Of course I'm hung up on queue times. The only role I'm able to play without an absurd wait is 2v8 survivor. Which is also the role I'm least interested in.
I'm not usually one to jump on the "X, Y, or Z will kill the game" train, but if 2v8 becomes permanent I actually truly think it'll put DbD on its last legs. I'm entirely ready to walk away if 2v8 is here to stay. There's other games out there that I could play that actually respect my time instead of making me wait 10 minutes for a match.

That’s far from the truth my friend.Whatever you say. You're free to keep pretending that this mode hasn't assassinated queue times, just don't act surprised when this game eventually kicks the bucket.

It's every match to be honest. You get caged and then the killer or their duo meets you on the other side of the map just as you get free.

Please no. The queue times are too bad to keep this around.

We have enough players but too many killers. So they just need to make it more fun for survivors. If 1vs4 is having trouble in queques then it's just tells most players prefer 2vs8 over it. If you don't like it you don't have to play it.
So they just need to make it more fun for survivors
Never going to happen. Would require so many changes the game wouldn't even resemble DbD anymore.
If 1vs4 is having trouble in queques then it's just tells most players prefer 2vs8 over it
Non sequitur. It has little to do with preference and everything to do with the fact that the playerbase is now split between two separate queues.
If you don't like it you don't have to play it.
No. I actually just can't play the game at all. I don't have the time to wait in 15 minute queues for 10 minute matches. So glad to see how quick the 2v8 crowd is to alienate the ones who've kept the game alive all these years in 1v4.

I'm honestly very displeased that the regular gamemode has had to suffer to facilitate 2v8. I've never cared that much for the idea of 2v8 but after this I lowkey don't want it to ever return. We obviously don't have the playerbase for it.

Not counting the first two as outliers the peaks are still 10k higher on average then they were before and the slumps are still 8k higher than they were before, its still an overall larger playerbase and while it might trend downward it was still a larger surge and higher than it would average before, idk if you can read charts but so far so good on an average increase lets see how another week does (probably the same result)
the peaks are still 10k higher on average
Yes because there's an event currently going on.
its still an overall larger playerbase
No, it isn't. Most of these players won't stick around past the event. This happens any time there's a major content drop in any game ever. Casual players come for the event, play a little while, and then the numbers gradually sink back down to what they were before when the event is over.

There's a pretty clear downward trend following the peak on the 26th July:

Realistically 1/2 the players isn't 2x the queue time, queues aren't that bad incentives are nice and the game is in a better spot for average queues, on top of that 2v8 has averaged 50% increase in players over the last 7 days, so that split player base is now 75% / 75% of what it once was. If you think 75% of the player base shouldn't have fun so you can queue ~10% faster be my guest but it sounds pretty selfish.
No offense but that's a load of waffle and completely random numbers.

Lol. It's not any more selfish than the people saying everyone else should tolerate longer queue times because they want 2v8.

Why would someone want to play male characters?! They are so gigantic and give you a disadvantage by playing them. Everytime I try to hide with my former main yoichi, my head sticks out of the bush while sable is perfectly hidden. As long as they keep making males gigantic and females small I don‘t think males will be any success for behavior. It just doesn‘t feel good to play them. As long as this is like it is I don‘t think anything will change for males.
My hope for the skin contest is a sable with a ghost face like costume.
I've always thought they should make the males a little quieter to even out the playing field. That way it's not just a clear cut disadvantage to play a dude.
-
The cosmetic contest is a disappointment every year on the survivor side. It's always the same style of outfit that wins. I am TIRED of brightly coloured athletic wear.

Yep pretty much this. They added a new mode that in my opinion is only fun for one side. Then took incentives away from the regular mode to bully players into the new, looked-fun-but-is-a-trainwreck mode. So now I can't play the "exciting" new mode because it's lame, they aren't running summer bbq, and as an extra kick regular mode got its points cut in half (no incemtive). Cool, so the devs basically want us to beta test for them for the anniversary event. Glee!
I just want to play some regular DbD during my time off work but the only role that doesn't have a horrendous queue time is 2v8 survivor, which I have ZERO desire to play. So thanks for that BHVR.
-
@Peanits said:
As others have mentioned, the purpose of the incentive is to encourage people to play Survivor in 2v8 to help balance out the queues. Survivors are needed most in the 2v8 mode right now and by a pretty large margin, so that's where the incentive goes.
We aren't able to support different bonuses for each mode at the moment, so the incentives for the regular mode are currently disabled. We're looking to separate this so we can support the appropriate incentives for both modes in the future, but to manage expectations, I would not expect the regular mode to have an incentive as big as the limited time mode (or anywhere near 400% for that matter).
The regular gamemode shouldn't have to suffer for 2v8. That's just poor planning.

10-15 min lobby waiting is normal time for a lot online games with many different modes on them. So its not a big deal to wait a little bit more than usual.
15 minutes is not an acceptable amount of time to wait on a game that usually only lasts around 10. If matchmaking times become that long across the board, this game will not last.
-
@MechWarrior3 said:
There are over 60 million active players. It would be just fine. Queue times would even out anyways. Not to mention DBD gets new players everyday that join the game.
But it isn’t fine though. I’m currently taking a DbD break because the queue times are just not worth it for me right now. It’s around 5 minutes for normal games and 15+ for 2v8 as killer.
-
@tjt85 said:
None of these modes can ever become permanent, imho. They split the queues and it negatively impacts match-making in the standard mode because the game doesn't have a big enough player base to support extra modes.
Queue times notwithstanding, this is still the second best of the modifiers so far (for me, the best is Chaos Shuffle by a long way). I'd probably enjoy 2 vs 8 a lot more if I had a decent shot of getting into a Killer game fairly quickly, but I just can't be bothered waiting that long. They'll definitely need to do some work figuring out why the Killer queue times are so long (I have a few ideas why but I'd just be speculating). I'm sure they'll have the data to figure it out but I dunno if adding bots are the answer. Not too many players would like that solution.
None of these modes can ever become permanent, imho
Agreed. DbD does not have the playerbase to sustain multiple modes at once. I've been saying this for so long but noone ever wants to hear it. Matchmaking time in both modes has been horrendous as of late (although definitely way worse in 2v8).
-
The only way to fix the queue discrepancy would be to make survivor appealling to play in 2v8, which is just not possible without restructuring the fundamentals of how chases work. Being chased from two directions leaves you with little to no options, because DbD was never designed with that in mind. I just can't see this ever working to be honest.
-
You explained my thoughts perfectly. This mode is just completely uninteresting as survivor for me. Chasing is the funnest part of DbD and you can't do that properly when you're getting two tapped. The only way you stand a chance is if the killers aren't chasing together, and in that case, I'm not sure what the actual point of the mode is? I might as well just play normal DbD and be free to pick the perks I want.
-
@Slowpeach said:
Yup. Balanced or no isn’t the point and really in mode with this level of chaos that doesn’t matter. It’s simply not fun because there’s no skill expression on survivor. Dbd is at its best during chases and these are cut short in ways that survivors can do nothing about due to the 2 killers cutting you off with ease. Sure as killer it’s a blast doing this and working together with massive synergy but there’s no counterplay as survivor.
I think the faster pace and discouraging of slugging and significantly lower effectiveness of tunnelling and camping is excellent but that doesn’t matter when everything else is so bad on survivor and the game doesn’t have its best parts. Knew this would be the problem and thought BHVR would never do it because of this extremely obvious design flaw.
Knew this would be the problem and thought BHVR would never do it because of this extremely obvious design flaw.
I've been saying this for years. That 2v8 would come out and survivors wouldn't play it, because there's literally nothing fun about getting 2 tap downed. The game was not built for being chased by two killers at once, which is one of the reasons people hated Knight so much or getting cornered by a Nemesis zombie. It just feels cheap. To make 2-killer chases work, they'd have to do a lot of changes and at that point I don't even think it's worth it.

what are survivors reason for not having fun? they they can't easily bully both killers or genrush even tho I seen gens pop fast just like in the normal mode.can't be long queue times because for survivor pretty much instant.
I don't find 2v8 survivor fun for a few reasons. If the killers split up and chase separately, then you're essentially just playing normal DbD except without any of the perks you want. At which point, I'd rather just play the normal mode. And if the killers group up and chase together, it's just not very fun. There's not a whole lot you can do.

Whats a problem have many permanent game mode and then players decide on waht of them they choose to stay the most i think this is worth more 10-20 minutes on lobby screen.
If I have to wait 10 to 20 minutes for a game that normally only lasts 10 minutes anyways I'm just going to quit. I'll just go play Trials or something where I can get a match instantly.

This is my thoughts. Every event and/or DLC drop causes issues with queue times one way or another for me. This is why I've always been of the opinion that events and modifiers need to be temporary. There's no way this could be sustainable as a permanent game mode.
