  • My best guess is to avoid slugging and making altruistic plays a better option?

    I have no clue though.

  • Heavy buff for legion, th are you guys talking about.

That music distills unbridled rage into the legion player, increasing his sweat factor by nearly 120%, while being banger enough to remove the fun penalty to sweat, which is hilariously broken.

  • My fav is early dc against non meta killers. Billy Snipe bc of lethal? Dc. Clown runs good addons? Dc. Soon prob the same thing will happen if legion gets an early head start.

  • Billy, not biased at all.

  • I think the basekit of the strongest killers is fine, but nurse and blight have really stupid addons, like kavanaghs, and heavy pantung habing a charge time buff in addition to range, compound 33 making pallets near useless, and some other oddities.

But i agree that especially on killerside, nearly killers need buffs and not nerfs.

  • That sounds fkn hilarious, imagine old nurse with 16 blinks or whatever, while survs genuinenly cant be hooked bc of boil over completely controlling the movement, so iron grasp becomes a choice, ....

    I love it.

  • I feel you, but ive found that these matches are rare and not unwinnable by any stretch of the imagination, its just the early game that is so tilting, ususally.

  • @GannTM said:

A SWF is salty they’re losing so they decide to vote for the match to end. Yeah I don’t think this is a good idea.

If it only works after 15 to 20s id like it. Hate being in that situation bc you either farm or dc or kill quickly, and none of those are satisfying to me if i want to have an actual match.

Usually i just go skybilly if that happens.

  • Sounds fun, if you want to go down a lot with prot hits you might want MoM but thats ultra memey.

Were gonna live forever, bond, sprintburst and saboteur, with a flashlight, i enjoy sometimes, is fun and gets you a surprising amount of value.

  • @GoshJosh said:

Is there any official announcement Nurse is being nerfed? I doubt she is, and certainly hope not.

I dont think there will be, going by the stats, but i do hope they nerf kavanaghs, torn bookmark and maybe tweak the recharge addons, those overtuned imo. The rest is... alright but in general she needs some readjustment i think.

  • reject buying killers, embrace billy.

You can't bring survivor perk diversity without nerfing some meta perks; you can't really buff any survivor perk to be stronger/more appealing than something like Dead Hard or CoH because those perks are simply busted in terms of strength, and have no downside, so why wouldn't you use them?

There's also the fact that many meta survivor perks cover up holes in the base game design. DS for tunneling, BT for camping, UB for excessive slugging, etcetera. And since the first two of these are used extensively because of how impossible playing killer "fairly" and winning can be under the right circumstances, it's no wonder why people use them so much.

I completely agree. The very top needs to be nerfed, the only way wake up can be as strong is with it having a 70+ boost to opening speeds, nobody wants to see that.

As for covering up holes, i agree that the mere possibility of bt alone is sort of preventing tunneling directly off hook, but having that hole be covered up by a weaker bt AND a better guardian&co would be more interesting.

Ive been sitting on the edge of my seat for about a month the second I caught wind of a Legion update. I really, REALLY thought maybe they'd finally give a real look at the killer, their lore, and make their power and perks MAKE SENSE?

I was hoping for a new ability all together, to fit in with the trailer teaser of "darkness among us", where maybe you can cloak yourself as a survivor from a distance, but as you get closer you're revealed to be the killer--this wouldn't be a big leap, because Onryo gets to be invisible within a certain distance, and once she gets too close she's revealed. Imagine you see Dwight coming towards you to help with a gen--OH MY GOD ITS LEGION.

I even saw a cool idea, what if Legion could occupy lockers? Like changing between the 4 teens by going in and out of lockers, and being able to swap between lockers based on where the other teens are--and the unused teens would REMAIN in the lockers. Oh I'm just gonna hide in this locker--OH MY GOD ITS LEGION.

All of these play in a LOT better to Legion's lore, and their whole shtick of being 4-in-1 killer. Unless ALL four of them were TRACK STARS--I dont see how "running fast" was the brilliant power that they gave them.

    THAT BEING SAID....

I am a WEE bit excited for the buff, but I dont think it will raise them above a B. Legion just isn't a big threat. A big enough map is enough to handicap them. They can only get a down after successfully chaining 4 hits. Even with a .2 speed boost between hits the odds of getting to all 4 survivors is so slim, unless they all just have a drum circle near a gen.

Even if you manage to find ONE survivor, all they need is Sprint Burst to almost completely waste your power. Spring burst gives them 150%ms. Thats 20% higher than Legions, and assuming they're already at least 15-20m ahead of you when you activate Feral Frenzy, once they turn on their Sprint Burst you are NOT catching them. Even if you are RIGHT behind them when you activate FF, they move at 150%, FF only moves at 130%. Sprint Burst lasts for a full 3 seconds, and I've timed--FF and it only lasts 10. So with the Feet Per Second a survivor can get between them and you, those extra 7 seconds aren't gonna help much as 3 of them are still gonna be you playing catch up, now you only have 3 seconds to hit this survivor, and pray theres another one close enough to chain a 2nd hit.

The fatigue is FINALLY getting a buff, going from a WHOPPING 4 SECONDS, which is basically a free Decisive Strike in game, multiple times, down to 3 seconds--the length of Nurse's who gets to GO THROUGH WALLS.

With as good as survivors are at looping in this game, a killer being able to run 15% faster just isn't it.

I was really hoping for a legit just rework of this killer. I think they're really wasting what could be a really unique killer power and just did the most BORING power of "run fast". And they aren't even the best as running fast! Hillbilly can run LAPS at 230%, infinitely, until he runs into something. So can Blight! Legion isn't even the fastest runner in the game and their whole power is being able to run fast.

Well before the patch a survivor could just genuinely ignore the legions power, now you have to be careful.

Also i think they wanted to go a direction similar to what youre suggesting, but sadly from a profit perspective, its better to just design a killer from the ground up and sell him instead of fixing a killer by essentially removing him from the game.

  • I got very fair matches for the most part. Sometimes i went spacebilly, and let the survivors escape, and that messed with it a bit which is expected.

Slight correction- it just does nothing, period.

You actively have to try to get your chainsaw Overheating. I did start learning Billy properly after that change went through, and unless you're holding your chainsaw up constantly or literally missing and then readying another sprint whether it's a good idea or not, you are not going to have to worry about Overheat.

It's still not good design because it does nothing, but it seriously isn't negatively impacting him.

I've found that to be wrong. Ormond and other large maps do force you to keep an eye on it, and newer players who miss chainsaws and already get punished by surv distance are annoyed by it.

  • @JonahsTablet said:

I'm curious on what the general consensus is regarding how to fix Billy, I personally just want overheat removed, I don't really care for his add-ons, although I can see how people who crutched on used his add-ons before would like to see them returned to their former state.

I persoanlly think hes fine powerlevel wise, he just gets punished way too hard for mistakes. Overhaet punishes you hard for missing 2- 3 saws in a row and bumping into something because you missed a flick causes loss of a chase due to the stun, its pretty annoying.

His addons are also worth looking at, in particular his stealth addons are quite useless, because a chainsaw isnt exactly a silent killer. leafy mash, buckle, motoroil, black grease are close to useless, both iris and tuned carburator along with a few other are also all bad. i dont thinbk its as bad as pyramid heads or twins addons though, and im fine with his strengh when played perfectly.

'the amount of prove thyself usage will undeniably lead to a nerf. The amount of coh usage will lead to a nerf.'

Ah, so you're new to this then? Well I guess in no time you'll be preaching like everyone else when you see the kind of changes that come to this game, because they never change Survivor perks based on their usage. If something becomes painstakingly broken, they fix that - like BL was, but just for a perk being used a lot they never make changes for. Heck they may even buff the perks, like they did Borrowed Time. This is for Survivor, as far as the Killer side goes. If something gets used too much it gets nerfed.

well if they cant fix perks either way then it doesnt matter. the numbers would likely become more clear, if thats not what they care about then they dont care either way. What about the rest of my argument?

It's impossible for an asymmetrical game to be competitive like League, or CSGO, because by design it lacks symmetry. The game will never be fair enough to be a competitive game.

A game doesnt need to be perfectly symmetrical and balanced in order to be viable for competitive play, aside from 5v5 csgo is pretty quite asymmetric in its own right, to the point that NaVi can win ct side on nuke with an avereage of 11 rounds to 4. Other games are even less fair. Defenders in r6 win about 60% of ALL rounds in competitive.

Now, some things need to be fixed, obviously. But since the devs care about numbers, the amount of prove thyself usage will undeniably lead to a nerf. The amount of coh usage will lead to a nerf. The amount of tunneling/camping will be addressed.

Killers also dont need to be perfectly balanced, in melee we have a captain falcons winning all the time, eventhough he is certainly inferior to marth or fox.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/312077/the-skill-conundrum-maintaining-a-playerbase

DBD isn't a competitive game in the same sense of a CSGO or League.

Most players in this game don't want to play against stronger opponents as the game becomes less engaging the closer you get to high level competitive play. Competitive DBD is absolute the worst way to play this game as it is just the most hyper efficient and boring way to play the game for vast majority of players who don't already compete in DBD tournaments. The game isn't even balanced around proper competitive play considering how much stuff gets banned in comp play events. All the things that people would consider expressions of skill in DBD inversely aren't as effective in competitive play.

The game was always meant to Horror game with friends first, competitive a distant, very very distant second. This is a game people play to get away from the hyper competitive nature of CSGO and League. The problem is it's going to be difficult to keep older players who've been here for a six years now with the gameplay generally being quite stale. It's going to be hard to keep new players because the first time player experience is just awful. This game is quite punishing on new players as they're sort of just thrown into the deep end after a tiny tutorial and have to learn everything on the fly which is hampered by the fact they have no perks, items, or add-ons on top of potentially not even having the survivor or killer that made them interested in picking up the game in the first place.

People come in and a lot of them play a few games, get fed up with the beginner experience and never come back. Combine that older players wanting something new and yeah you're gonna shed a lot of players. Putting a special Rank reward won't do anything for that since most people leaving probably weren't going to play to that point in the first place.

Ssbm was also a party game at first. Compwas never considered, quite noticable when you see the raw amount of unbalance, comparing characters like Marth or Fox to Bowser or Pichu.

Brawl attempted to be more of a casual experience and it was such a terribly designed game for comp in particular, that it was likely the most hated out of the entire series. Even though i personally loved it when i played with my brother. They took note, and today, ssbu can be enjoyed as a competitive game just as much as a party experience, and it is succesful and long lasting bc of that.

Just because a game is at heart a casual experience, doesnt mean its not good for competitive play. You know which game always stayed casual and was never changed to consider competitiveness? Fall guys. Among us. Games like these were even more casual than dbd. They dont incentivise people to stay at all and we see the fallout of that.

Now, i disagree with the notion that most things considered skill dont come into play a lot in tournaments. Looping, using your killer power to get snipes with ph, curving as billy, sniping as huntress, being precise with nurse, going for flicks with blight, all of these things become a lot harder in comp, but are still very possible. There may be some that arent possible, but if it doesnt work against good players id call that cheese not skill.

I agree with the new player exp, and i think it supports the fact that dbd is already striving to be more competitive. You know which game also has a bad new player experience?

R6, and its one of the most successful online games. What r6 has and dbd doesnt is a measure of skill and working mm so that new players at the very least get paired up with other new players.

If the devs vision is to invest less, then they can go ahead with the casual notion. But fact is, that casual play alone doesnt keep veterans. If we want to see this game live long, then we should incentivise competitive play, not annihilate it drom existence.

I'm gonna start this off with me saying straight up I'm a nobody. I'm just your average player. I found this game back in 2016 (jesus that was 6 years ago). After all this time, all the controversy, all the game breaking bugs. I still love this game, and the devs for making it. The atmosphere is still fantastic, the sound design is amazing, the art and the amount of time put into this are just fantastic. There's so much negativity not just in the world, but in this community. I've met so many good people from playing this game. I hope it continues to grow, and as frustrated as I can get I'm glad we have it. Thank developers for all your time, dedication, and skills. Thank you community for even with all the negativity there's still huge pillars of light.

I think the huge pillars from negativity are a question of perspective. I really like this game and i care about it, thats why i love discussing potential improvements.

  • @Kurri youre right to an extent, dbd is at its core a partygame and a pretty good one at that, but i feel like it can be much more, and several elements already strive to be more. The existence of billy and nurse for example reward players taking more time to improve and to practice, while being worse for casual play than a killer like clown with his meme addon.

  • @Ripley thats the way r6 retains its players, but csgo for example has seen no significant change in meta, and they have the most hardcore playerbase ive ever seen outside of tf2 maybe. Currently dbd is changing everything outside of the meta like r6, but retaining the metaperks and killers like csgo. I find that mixture uncomfortable bc of the barrier created between casual and competitive.

  • @Emeal

It is odd, i agree. But we see it working in every hobby, every sport. The number of kilos you can bench in a gym, the difficulty of a climbing path you can manage, the amount of followers or subs you get on social media, the placing your sportsteam has achieved in the tournament standings. People get addicted to numbers very easily and i think thats just human nature. It has kept me playing cs for 1.4k hrs.

  • @RaSavage42 said:

On top of not splitting up Comp and casual play... that is needed

Im not sure if dbd has enough players to do smth like that.

  • @Mat_Sella said:

The Band-Aid perks dont help, just buff what needs to be buffed and plan accordingly instead of forcing killers/survivors to sacrifice their build to hold against unhealthy gameplay.

Then on top, quite a few of those Band-Aid perks are DLC, so if you already feel pressed against your opposition, you're not going to want to pay just for a chance you feel like you can face them.

I agree. There are very few reasons to not tunnel, when you take away bt and ds there is only the concept of pressure that makes macro gp a bit more varied.

Its frustrating as well that several bandaid perks on killer side are locked behind dlcs.

  • Most m1 killers already have antiloop, id love it if they could make pigs ambush better or smth but twins are so strong that giving chatlotte an additional buff when being m1 is overdoing it.

I think they should try adding more stuff that counters w keying like blight does and maybe billy to an extent. Like @Nameless mentioned, its usually just boring holding w.

  • Hug tech is a bug in my eyes, if its about that exploit. But it doesnt come into play too often so i could care less. Calling it cheating i find questionable.

So I'm considering the current boon meta, and how long totens take to be destroyed, so that's why ruin is at the bottle of the S tier, also I'm considering MMR and stuff. S tier perks are essentially perks that can help u to gate kills and slow down the game.

Let me know ur thoughts and what would u change in the comments.

Id put gearhead one tier higher, it sometimes gives value unlike bloodhound or predator. PWYF is also one tier better, id say as good as deerstalker.

    (Imo obv)

  • This game doesnt really reward you much at all for getting better, so while its reeling in a lot of new players, it doesnt maintain its hardcores well.

  • As much as i find this thread entertaining, it also just makes me kind of depressed...

  • I have mates who get motionsick from games with fov beneath 90.

Guess what game theyre not playing.

  • @egg_ is doing a little trolling, but 100 hrs is still very good imo for some of the concepts you have grasped.

However, now that i have read through your post more precisely, there are a lot of rough edges, but i have to say you miss the concept of pressure near entirely. A rule of thumb when it comes to pressure is to ask "how many survs can they afford to leave on gens if there are no mistakes are made?" Then you will come to the realisation that tunneling alone wont suffice in matches where survs care less about bp and pips and more about winning.

Oh yeah, read @TheSubstitutes comment onto why you might not want to play like that if its only about the grade.

I have been playing dbd since the beginning of february now. I am almost iridescent 1 on killer, which I main for 80% of my games playing pyramid head, trickster, and pig. I basically only play survivor for dailies or if I have friends that want to join.

Let me explain some things in detail:

    1. I do not facecamp. Facecamping is bad strategy. It gives the other 3 survivors tons of free time to do gens and find my totems.
    2. I DO tunnel. I tunnel A LOT. If I hook someone, go check a couple of gens, then get the unhook notification, I am going to chase them both down and then choose to hit the person who is injured. Most of the time, that is the person who was just unhooked. If both are injured, I'll hit whoever is closest.
    3. If there are only 1 or 2 gens to go and I have someone on second hook, I'm not leaving. I will not stand in front of them without moving, but I'm not leaving the area. Can you convince me that there is a better play than this?
    4. If I am leaving the area to patrol gens after scoring a hook and I see someone lurking for the save, I am no longer leaving. As pyramid I can get an easy punishment of the damned collateral. With pig I can stealth around the hook and get an easy grab. That's not camping, that's the consequence of bad survivor play.
    5. If I am chasing an injured player who has been unhooked, I will completely ignore healthy survivors that are clicking flashlights or trying to block me until I down the injured survivor. If someone is actually impeding my progress by standing directly on me, I'll take the free hit. But as soon as I take that free hit I am back to chasing the original, hook stated survivor.
    6. If I am up against a team running a sabotage/flashlight save strategy, I will leave people slugged all over the place until the flashlight or toolbox holder is out of commission. Why would I not, if it just removes the effectiveness of the items that were brought? Yes, unbreakable is a risk, but I rarely see more than one person running it at a time recently. It's usually DH BT DS and then either Iron will or CoH.
    7. In conclusion, as killer every decision you make takes time. Your time is worth 4X more than a survivor's time. But kicking one player from the game as soon as possible knocks that value down to 3X. Which makes it easier to knock down to 2X. And so on, this is how the killer wins. In my eyes, this is efficient gameplay.
    8. Perks like devour hope, BBQ, and make your choice incentivize a more run and gun playstyle away from your hooks. I know that they exist, but I'm not here to farm bloodpoints with BBQ. I am here to hit rank 1 ASAP

I will await your responses, as playing like this gives me consistent 3 and 4ks, and consistent elo and mmr boosts.

Finally, someone who enjoys the macro of tunneling. Although i do wonder how much fun you have doing this, cuz i get way too invested way too quickly playing ultra comp.

Dead Harding for distance is correcting the mistake of being greedy, though.

You do not need perfection to counter m1 killers. Obviously most survivors are bad, but there is a HUGE difference even at a causal level between playing an anti loop killer versus a pure m1. Especially one without instant downs.

I love curving an injured survivor only for them to dh for dodge and me just running 2m further to down them anyways.

I'm not complaining or arguing for or against this, I'm asking for official confirmation as to if this is or is not a bug. I don't particularly care either way.

Then why go out of your way to ask the forums? Nobody but the people reviewing the reports could definitively say yes/no, and they need to judge for themselves. If its an undocumented change then it is probably a bug?

I dont think this is the correct place to ask if its a bug or not, this is a discussion channel, so i assumed you thought it was important enough not just to consider sending in a report but also discuss if it should even be titled a bug or not. I dont think youll find a satisfactory answer here.
