Just to let fellow console players know, if you enjoy getting 10 FPS every time you get hit with sloppy, or get bloodlust, hope you enjoy the release of cross play where you verse PC players that get consistent frames
It's one of several reasons to out-out of crossplay.
-
If you like slugging as playstyle, then go for a build that focusses on it and prepare yourself that you'll have to down people twice because of Unbreakable. (Because crutch perks won't go away.) Take a look at it from this perspective: This way, you only have to deal with Unbreakable, not with DS, BT, Deliverance...
It's very satisfying to watch a successful 4-men slug. (I don't play killer myself but I enjoy to watch streamers.)

It shouldn’t have any issues. The Last of Us Part II was designed with a base model PS4 in mind and runs with little to no issues. It is also a visual masterpiece (even people that hated the story and characters praised the visuals). BHVR should have no problems making Dead by Daylight perform well on consoles. I’m beginning to think that they just don’t know how to develop for consoles. That’s the only possible reason I can think of if they actually care about them.
Yeah, it's definitely not a PS4 hardware issue. There are so many games that look & run great on PS4 - Ghost of Tsushima being the newest example.
Since non-high end pc's are also starting to struggle more and more with this game, it's very likely that the devs simply don't know how to do it better.
-
Sure, ragequitting isn't cool and I'm also a friend of dc punishments, but does nobody feel like death threats are worse than dc'ing?
-
DS also works when there is no tunneling, so the answer should be obvious.
-
Just add a totem counter. The only problem is that solo players don't know how many totems their teammates cleansed.
-
I don't play killer anymore. As a survivor, I sometimes gift the killer a kill at the end of the match.
Did that 2 days ago, because I was sure the killer was new. Turned out it was a rank 2. lul

The mods are not to blame here, they simply communicate to us what they've been told. It must be frustrating to be the middle man between this community and some of the devs, not being able to give correct feedback (if any feedback at all) while constantly getting spammed and flamed. Buuuut that's their job after all ... HAHA :)
I believe it's not their job, it's something they do in their free time. I believe only the community managers are BHVR employees.
And I agree, the mods are not to blame.

The devs may have been watching everyone but it is ridiculous to accept, or believe, that they provided an individual MMR to all of their players. They might have given some players a slightly higher/lower MMR based on things, but there is no way they went through every single player and looked at their skill and assigned them an MMR. And if they were using a system to track players and "skill" it is questionable about how this would have been done, if the system was accurate and if it was even happening beyond Devs themselves selecting random games to look at.
Its literally impossible to put everyone in the correct MMR within 10 games.
I am not saying it is working correctly, or even exists (lol), but anyone who believes that we've had enough time to definitively say it is working or not is being unreasonable.
"it is ridiculous to accept, or believe, that they provided an individual MMR to all of their players"
You know that this rating is done by a system/algorithm/computer, right? There is no human watching matches and giving people a skill rating.

that's not true, but again, I don't want to debate this, you are off topic, here we talk only about how 4.1.0 destroyed the performance compared to 4.0.0.
If you deal with arguments by just saying "that's not true" instead of taking the chance to broaden your horizon, then I guess that's your thing. 🤷♀️ You were the one who started this discussion between us.
Let's leave it at this.

nah, game got better even for survivors, and survivors were never the server in the first place.
Again, I don't see the point in trying and rewrite history, it doesn't matter: what matters is that now performance dropped from one patch to the next, and this needs to be reverted. We can go back and talk about optimisation after at least we get a fix for the current situation.
EDIT: the reason why I don't want to stay here and talk about speculative stuff or rewriting history is because Devs have a habit to respond to only what they know they can easily fact check (for example, instead of addressing the Elementary School Map bad design, they decided to answer a guy who misquoted one of their leaders) - don't give them a hand to juke the main topic ;).
Very simply put: If you have to wait for the killer's response (who is hosting the game), then this will also lead to problems on the survivors' side.

The matchmaking is still very new. Everyone is starting with a similar "MMR" so it'll be a little bit before everyone is placed where they should be.
But, yeah, lets complain about it.
First, the devs told us they had been tracking matches and the players' skill rating in the background for weeks.
Then they told us it would take 10 matches for the MMR to settle.
We can now clearly see that this system is not working at all. So, yeah, we should definitely complain about it!

But console performance got better, for a little while!
Let’s not rewrite history here: as bad as framerate was, it still was better than how it was before. The problem is that now everything plummeted, and this is probably the worst iteration of dbd, performance wise,
Performance got a little better for a very short time. That was when the dedicated servers got activated and had nothing to do with the game getting optimized.
(When dedicated servers are doing calculations instead of your own console, then this gives your console more room to do other calculations, which leads to a better performance.)

to be fair I didn't see any Devs answers in the forum today, at least not in the first page when I was lurking.
I want to be optimistic, and think that they do know something is wrong and
- technical devs are at work to fix/understand the problems
- community managers are waiting for their tech team to tell them what to tell us
...of course we'll keep asking until we get some answer, but I'll gladly wait without encouraging any flame if this is the case, as much as this topic (and/or similar ones) stays open and visible.
Players have been asking for console optimization for years and nothing happened. The devs have been aware of at least some problems for ages - for example, they acknowledged in a stream that frame drops occur when a new status gets applied (like Mangled). By now, the problems are even more severe.
No improvements in all this time. They made a sub-forum for optimization reports half a year ago, but did anything happen?

Why should they give you a proof? Also why should they lie? If you dont believe, then dont.
Because "we have a new MMR" doesn't anger people, while "we just throw people together randomly" absolutely would.
We don't see any indication of any MMR being at work, so "does this MMR even exist?" is a valid question now.

"Does the MMR even exist?" is a legitimate question at this point.

It continually baffles me that this game has a system that keeps track of your in-game time (devotion / XP) but doesn't use that to match players. Imagine getting placed against a CSGO pro when you're trying out the game for the first time. And that's a game where FPS skill generally transfers over to other games. The vast majority of skill in this game is a time sink - getting the right perks, knowing the maps and killers, guessing the other players perks, knowing how to loop and hide, etc.
Sure, the amount of playtime does not necessarily equal the player's skill level, but in general it would be a way better tool to match players than the chaos that we currently have.
-
@Megaris said:
they hid all ratings because they don't want to hear complaints about match making. now they can say "MMR is working properly even if no players can confirm it".
Feels like it.
But of course we can still tell that the MMR isn't working.

I think that the Devs stated on Twitter that the matchmaking is going bonkers for a few days before it gets better...
I agree with you and in the past few days I've either faced rank 20 (RanK dOeSN't mAtTer aNyMoRE comments incomming for sure) babies or rank 1 sweaty squads (some were SWF, some were just VERY GOOD 3K+ hours survivors) there were no in between, it was either a easy 4k or a sweated and shaking 2k with a depip anyway.
All we have is to hope that when the MMR calculations are properly done it would be at least more "fair" to play. I feel bad for babies (killer or survivors) who get sucked in a match against a veteran and it can (and probably will) hurt the new playerbase...
The devs also said that they have been tracking matches in the background for weeks now. Why should the matchmaking now magically get better in the next days? If it does, then only because the devs make changes to the system.
And I'm also worried about new players getting driven away.
-
The MMR is not survivor sided, it simply doesn't work. You can take a look at killer main streamers, rank 1s with thousands of hours, who get matched against brown rank survivors.
-
The MMR works surprisingly bad for a system that supposedly has been run for weeks in the background. It doesn't work at all. Forget about "give it 10 matches to find your rating". We can all see by now that this is nonsense.
This MMR (if it even exists, who knows at this point) is only enjoyable for people that like to stomp newbies.

That's the funny part. Hypothetically the entire thing could be completely made up and we'd have no idea since it's hidden.
Exactly. I feel like we can upgrade "the MMR doesn't exist" from tinfoil to a valid theory at this point.
-
There is no logical reason why the MMR is hidden.
The only thing we can see clearly now is that the system is not working. Honestly, we can't even tell if the system simply isn't working or if it even doesn't exist in the first place.

I don't like this as it sounds like an excuse.
Most, if not all games with a ranking system are shown, and i have never seen a person complain or dread about their own rank, apart from the fact that they want to improve.
The previous ranking system was shown and i don't believe anyone had a problem with it, apart from it being clearly broken.
How would it be any different to show it now or later on down the track? That absolutely makes no sense.
Again, we cannot provide feedback on what we cannot see. We don't know how the system determines ranks, skill or how it even works because it's hidden.
I also suspect we won't get patch notes about it either since we won't know if something is/was being changed, if it's working as intended or if something breaks, so they can just hide it from the community without any complaints.
To play 'the game the best they can', we need to see where we can improve, if we are improving or not, the difference between our rank and the people we are vs'ing, otherwise what's the point of having the matchmaking at all if it's hidden? Hell, we don't even know if it's working correctly right now, and i'm not just going to take the Devs word for it.
Of course this is an excuse. This game is full of toxicness that makes people feel bad all the time and suddenly the devs don't want to hurt the players' feelings by showing them their skill rating? Yeah, sure.
-
If the devs acknowledged that fps got worse with the last update, then they would have to come up with a fix for the problem.
I'm playing on PS4 since the release. Performance never was great but it got worse over the years. The devs either don't know how to fix the performance issues or they don't want to. There really is no option c).

It's funny that you mention this. My friend tried to get adept killer achievements at red ranks the last couple of days (unsuccessfully).
Now with the new MMR he got matched against brown ranks all the time and was able to easily get several achievements yesterday.

Nonsense. Harassment should not be tolerated and people who can't behave like a decent normal person have to learn that their actions have consequences, for example by getting banned in a video game or getting their social media account closed.

Or alternatively have hooks and generators locked for x amount of time.
Gives everyone a chance to get an idea of the gen/totem locations. It gives set up killers time to set up. First 30 secs to a minute would be more intense as some killers would stalk, some set up and some would start hunting. Survivors wouldn't end up camped on hook in seconds and killers wouldn't get gen rushed. survivors would either need to use stealth or hide at the beginning making it more survival based.
What you described is basically increasing the time for the survivors' objective (because they can't "work" at the start), therefore giving the killers more time to do their own objective.
That doesn't conflict with what I wrote.
-
The problem is the amount of time the survivors need to get their objective done vs. the amount of time the killer needs to get their objective done.
You can solve the problem either way: increasing the time for the survivors' objective or decreasing the time for the killer's objective.

Even with the DC penalties survivors can still DC anyway if they think cucking you out of something that has taken you 30 attempts is worth the ban. (And for most toxic survivors, YES. YES IT IS VERY MUCH WORTH THE BAN)
Can we please get DC husks so if someone quits I can slam their DC'd corpse on the basement hook to get the challenge done, DC's be damned?
DC husks would solve other issues as well.
I could not come up with one reason why those husks should not get implemented.
-
This reminds me of the good old "sacrifice all survivors in the basement" challenge where survivors dc'ed all the time to deny the killer the challenge. (dc penalties weren't activated then.)
Also one more example to add to the endless list of "Why this community has the reputation it has".
-
I hope you already reported the player in-game and now only want to give additional information. (If you didn't, nothing will happen.)
-
"Remember, if you lose but didn't camp, survivors will respect you because you actually try yoru best."
Honestly this reads like you never played killer. You should try it. Don't camp and see how survivors will react when you come to chase them out of the exit gate and what they will write in the after-game chat.
-
The main issue is probably that we have been talking about the same issues for years.
For example: Why talk about console optimization? We have been discussing issues for ages and nothing changed.
Or matchmaking: Also been an issue for ages. The devs now came up with a new system, but they won't tell us how it works, so what should we talk about when we know nothing about it? (I'm talking about how we don't know how performance will be rated. By kills? Bloodpoints? Something entirely different?)

Piggy is the best. She is the best killer. Let me list the reasons why she is the best killer. Piggy kills the best because she has boop the snoot, reverse trap the bear, and lion growl lion growl. This is my fifth sentence, next paragraph.
Piggy's boop the snoot is the snootiest of boops. Her boop is a cheat code that allows all survivors to survive. The Entity requires all survivors to boop the snoot in order to not get booted out of the game. If all survivors boop
mythe snoot, they are guaranteed to survive, the Entity will no let Piggy final hook them. This is my fifth sentence.Piggy's reverse bear traps are a good way to slow the game down that doesn't require ruin. This allows you to inform the survivors that they must boop the snoot in order to survive the match. If a survivor boops the snoot, they can be undisturbed while they take off traps. If survivors do not understand to boop the snoot, they have two hooks and several minutes of taking off the trap in order to get the message. This is my fifth sentence.
Finally, lion growl is most definitely a superb communication tool. You can use it to lunge, you can use it to inform survivors they must boop the snoot. It is also fun being smoll piggy and growling as you walk around. If survivors try to run instead of doing the ritual of the booping of the snoot, you can quickly reach them. This is my fifth sentence.
To conclude, booping the snoot is the best way to play the game. Playing piggy is the only way to ensure a booping of the snoot can happen. If snoots are not booped then survivors get the boot. Right up to the hook. That last sentence was indeed a sentence shut up Mrs. BHVR I deserve an A+ for my brilliant essay. That was my fifth sentence, I get extra credit for making six.
This is like me doing homework when the teacher tells us to write at least 300 words.

I understand that there are many people (especially in Tan rank) who will sling insults and death threats in the end-game chat, but remember that that is easily avoidable by simply exiting the end-lobby immediately after the game.
But honestly, like I've already said, League of Legends and CS:GO both have horrible issues with communication toxicity AND actual toxicity, and are far worse than DbD. The insults and threats that I've received in Dead by Daylight are nothing compared to the abuse that I and many other players have received on other competitive games, not to mention the actual gameplay toxicity that goes on in those games. And to top it off, players can be toxic through communication throughout the entire game, not just the end-lobby (that is easily skippable).
Also, by the literal definition of the word, Dead by Daylight is a competitive game. 4 players versus 1, competing for points, escapes and kills. There is also a ranking system in the game, flawed as it may be. So, yes, it is a competitive game.
I never said DbD is not competitive. 🤦♀️ But "competitive" is NOT the same as "e-sports". DbD IS an unbalanced party game that is made for casual players. A comparison with Mario Party is a way better fit than LoL, Overwatch, CS:GO etc.
And the whole "just close the after-game chat" thing when it comes to death threats: How about the DbD devs perma-banned these people instead? I play on PS4, we don't have an after-game chat, people can only message via the PSN messenger which is handled by Sony. If people pull that stuff on PSN, they will lose their entire account.
-
I read the first couple of paragraphs and you missed the most important thing: Insults and DEATH THREATS in the after-game chat.
DbD is an unbalanced party game, nothing more, and death threats in the after-game chat are a very common thing.
Imagine people playing Mario Party and sending their opponents death threats. Sounds insane, right? But it's the "normal" in DbD.
This community is one major reason why I wouldn't recommend DbD to anyone.

Applying gen pressure, aka slugging. Like I said.
No, no, no. Totally wrong. Gen pressure is when you abandon a chase and let the (already hurt) survivor escape, in favor of going to a gen where a healthy survivor works. Then you scare the healthy survivor off of that gen and kick the gen. Afterwards, you look around to see whether there is still a surv around who you can chase. Gen progress successfully denied!
I'm joking. Please don't try this at home.
-
@Blueberry said:
"It seems impractical to 2H everyone before you kill them."
Because it is impractical.
Against good survivors you literally do not have the time to play that way.
When you are playing against good survivors, unless you are playing one of the few top tier killers you will have to do some variation of slugging, camping, or tunneling to an extent if you want to win. Those are just facts.
If you won without doing any of that whatsoever they played very poorly.
No, "you just have to learn how to shut down loops and apply gen pressure properly."
There, now that I did write that nonsense, nobody else has to.
-
It's funny that a lot of people are totally willing to spend several minutes next to a gate, doing absolutely nothing, yet the same people will scream "it's sooo boring" when they get slugged and have to lie on the ground for 30 seconds. 😂
-
"Killers, even if the surv shows you disrespect, gift them the hatch. Survivors, don't bm the killer too much, just a bit crouching & nodding, you don't have to gift the killer anything, of course."
Sounds totally fair & equal. /s
-
I think we can agree that wasting another player's time for 4 minutes is not cool. (In general, slugging is fine, just this particular situation isn't cool.)
Now comes the issue: How often does that happen? And compared to that - how often will survivors not leave the match when exit gates are open, making killers traverse the entire map from one gate to the other?
What happened to the OP happened to me twice in all my time of playing DbD. Wasting 8 minutes of my time in total. That's it.
And now: How many minutes of my time did survivors waste because they simply couldn't leave through the exit gates when the match was over? We are talking about hours in total here, and I've always been a survivor main.
This community is one major reason why I completely stopped playing killer after all. 🤷♀️
-
Very bad idea in regards to performance. Performance on console is already a nightmare and it's also starting to affect more & more pc players. Add weather effects and constant 18 fps is the best you'll get.
(If this wasn't BHVR's infamous spaghetti code, then I would say, sure why not.)

Depends on what goal you want to achieve: a) Balancing the game or b) making as much money as possible in a short amount of time.
If you go for a), you have to listen to completely other people compared to when you want to go for b).
