Tightening matchmaking will do a world of wonders for majority of the playerbase

Many posts criticizing these changes admit that slugging and tunneling have to go, but that these changes are too heavy handed and broadly punishing to normal gameplay instead of targeting the problem behavior? How is that against ANY change? Or do you just try to demonize a whole group of people you disagree with by pretending they all completely agree with the worst examples among them because you have no real valuable rebuttal to their points? Just looking at the notes anyone with any amount of game knowledge could see that the basis for these changes was flawed.
At no point in my post did I say the changes weren't flawed. You're making a whole heap of assumptions about me. This community has been embarrassing over the last week and I stand by that. I've given my feedback over the changes enough elsewhere.
-
Let's not sanewash the absolute meltdowns, doomposting, review bombing, and "histrionics" that happened when the PTB wasnt even up for 48 hours. Ive legit never seen anything like it. There's giving feedback, and then there's whatever the heck all that was.
People have just come from having mediocre fog vials nerfed into uselessness, so yeah, I can understand some folks have lost faith in any sort of proper update. As someone else mentioned, it absolutely needed tweaks and number changing. The entire thing being reverted doesn't bode well. Histrionics on both sides of the coin are unnecessary but it's perplexing to see a post like this now of all times lol
-
I just chase them out, no issue. Most want an excuse to leave and simply don't because they dont want to look like a bad team mate. Tbags aren't common for me. If youre copping alot then I imagine you gave them the same energy in the match and theyre just returning it.

cough and shows the MMR isn't working. Properly applied such a streak shouldn't be possible (assuming 4K). That it was possible is indicative of either a broken matchmaking system, broken Killer, or both.
In a competitive setting, the possibility of loss is important. Doubtful there was one in a 2,000 game win streak…
After Chucky's release, they tightened matchmaking which set off all the content creators because their games (and winstreaks) suddenly became harder. IMO if someone is having winstreaks in the thousands then they should be in the highest MMR bracket and should be competing against survivors also in the highest bracket. Mandy assured me some time later that the matchmaking changes weren't reverted but it was definitely weird that all the content creators stopped complaining pretty quickly after their initial outburst and didnt mention it again.
I dunno. Matchmaking in this game is so shoddy but the lack of transparency around it makes me cynical that it's shoddy for most of us so a small number get what they want.
-
"Am I yelling into the void trying to offer a solution to a problem that has become ingrained into the game's culture? Probably"
You definitely are, unfortunately. I said the other day that this is all ultimately a monster of BHVRs own making. And it started with their poor introduction to the game for newcomers and reliance on content creators to pick up the slack. Here's the pipeline:
New player joins. The basic tutorial system sees them turn to the online community for help. The community refers them to popular content creators. They consume said content, including the ever popular winstreaks, proudly brought to you by tunnelling. Winstreaks have even evolved to the point of creators severely handicapping themselves in their games (aka "challenges"), but it's okay, because tunnelling is how you win anyway.
It's been like this since I started playing almost 5 years ago.
You can't just let others steer your game in one direction for years, then try and take control of the wheel lol

I honestly don't know why they added down votes to the forum, even the most supremely neutral takes will have 30 down votes. I have been more on the survivor side for nearly a couple years at this point but it's pretty obvious by the down votes of certain posts and replies how many one sided survivors there are here.
It's not just "one sided survivor" players who think this update should go through (after some changes of course). Tunnelling doesn't just affect survivors. It helps mask issues that weaker killers desperately need addressed by artificially increasing their killrates and making them appear fine on the surface. In the same vein, those who increase their MMR faster than they should will then come here complaining about swfs every single game because of course theyre getting more difficult opponents at a higher MMR bracket. What else did they seriously expect? Falling back into appropriate MMR brackets will improve the feel of the game for everyone.
The benefit i do think it will have for survivors is it making the game more attractive, especially for new players, as it removes the negativity bias they develop every time they get tunnelled out. This also benefits killer by helping with queue times.
You wanna talk about downvotes, I guarantee alot of killer mains will throw some my way. Goes both ways.

Most killers hated that PTB because it gave survivors unlimited basekit unbreakable.
The entire time I was on that PTB, survivors were trying to weaponize the anti-slugging mechanic, by purposely creating scenarios where I was literally unable to hook them.
Thank you lol I thought i was taking crazy pills reading the OP because my recollection of the original Finisher Mori reaction was different. Killer mains wanted the anti-slug component gone but thought the Finisher Mori itself was fine. I remember having a number of discussions on this forum trying to point out that they had to go hand in hand to incentivise hooking and not just slugging. Tru3 even had that video showing the opposite of what OP claims - that survivors could pick themselves up quicker than he could get the mori off.

I don't want to, I play pvp games like overwatch and league because my chance of winning is close to 50%, DBD is actual dogpoop the strongest killer mains easily win 70-90% of the time it's ridiculous, right now multiple streamers have winstreaks in the hundreds
it's proven you can literally win 1900 blight games or 1000 nurse games in a row if you tunnel hard enough, the crying from killer mains is genuinely insane… am i the only one who see this or what ?!
You're not the only one lol but ultimately it doesn't matter what you or I think. They're a business at the end of the day, and as long as folks are happy to keep paying up for new cosmetics there's no incentive to change how things are. If they're not retaining enough new survivor players, they now know the Play as You Wait feature will help pick up the slack.

I don't need this much help lol

This community I swear…
The changes aren't being scrapped, they're being delayed to be improved to avoid the problems they currently present in it's current form.
And this post is the survivor version of another post in a killer's PoV of the changes. Either side is too worried about having the edge over the other and nobody wants the game to be balanced and fun for BOTH sides.
Maybe, just maybe, not all survivors are out to abuse mechanics and wants the best for SoloQ, and not all killers are tunnelling/camping and still experiencing issues and blowback when following the new rules.
We all need to stop posting this toxic us VS them nonsense and start being constructive with each other, but I already know that's beyond our capability at this point.Agree, but it's not like the complaints only started once the PTB came out. Even before people could test it as intended, the doomposting and screaming and review bombing had started.
Let's not sanewash this whole community meltdown, because no matter what "improvements to avoid problems they currently present", the fact is that there's a very loud subset who will do this all over again. How can we have an actual conversation about what changes are necessary when there's a loud subset against any change at all. You could not have a constructive conversation on this forum over the last few days. At all.
-
I said this the other day but the reaction was incredibly embarrassing. Even the way certain content creators reacted was mind boggling. Constructive criticism and feedback is great and necessary, and there was certainly plenty of that. But the way some adults behaved, like BHVR had taken out their whole family or something, I know they'll look back in future and cringe. I was truly embarrassed by the community.
-
Not really surprised. I think the screams were heard as far as Mars

A part of me is giggling at the idea of spellcheck making his first few attempts to Google "peanits" quite uncomfortable.
Lol as Eric Pope said, it's "Peanits with a t!"

Unless I'm misunderstanding the question, doesn't this already happen now? I've gone against plenty of endgame builds over the years in survivor games. Nothing wrong with them.

Its kinda creepy for someone to remember such an obscure detail from a bugfix post from 4 years ago... Who does that?
More likely he did a Google search for Peanits to see what he could dig up. Just weird.

@Massquwatt said:
I'm not against the anti-tunnelling measures but what survivors get for free when taken off the hook is honestly a bit excessive. Because once you're off a hook you get:
A 10 second delayed notification to the killer
30 seconds of the following:
-Haste
-Endurance
-No scratch marks
-No blood pools
-No pain noises
-No killer instinct
-Seeing the killer's aura within 32 meters (Not sure if this is affected by open handed yet)
And if somebody else is using borrowed time, those bonuses go up to 42 seconds. That's nearly three quarters of a whole minute. Like you could just keep the delayed unhooking notification, the 30 seconds of endurance and haste and that'd be more than enough to discourage tunneling. I do think there's such a thing as putting too much into something and it almost feels like the game's just hand holding you?Pure assumption on my part here but I'm guessing it's excessive because of folks who will just hang around the general area of the hook. Looks like theyre making it simply not worth doing.

I think they mean this, but also that its the opposite of what is intended by OP:
This will result in some totems being snuffable through collision, but we are erring on the side of caution to ensure that all totems can be snuffed by the killer until then. Enjoy it while it lasts, Killer Mains!
If I'm reading it right, it looks like they were erring on the side of favoring the killers so that they weren't disadvantaged and then saying have fun. If anything, survivors would have more of a right to be angry that instead of being 'fixed' they were favoring the killer side (which, presuming a fix was impossible in the time frame, would have been the right call between those possibilites).
I wasn't actively playing then so if someone else was an remembers this being treated as an insult I'd be happy to hear the explanation.
Thanks! definitely a reach calling that an insult, reads more like have fun.
Wish people would stop being weird and personal towards the devs. Alot of the behaviour I've seen is embarrassing enough.

You quoted my post so I replied to you yes ? I know incredible…
The doomposts and review bombing are pitiful yeah, most games i'm seeing from PTB still end in 3-4ks, tunneling seems slightly harder it's kinda the point, you can tweak a few numbers but update is mostly good
just because they threw some bones at casual survivors after years of killer dominating doesn't justify the panic and emotional meltdown you can see on reddit/twitter, especially because it will get nerfed before live, sorry but yeah truly pathetic
It truly is embarrassing and over the top, the way this community has reacted. I thought most of us were adults but apparently not. Alot of this stuff will be outright nerfed or not even make it to live, but the response has been ridiculous.
I will say though, that this is a monster of BHVRs own making. We are almost 10 years in and this sort of change is several years too late. If the game isn't retaining enough survivors to maintain comfortable levels, well, I can't say I'd be surprised by that.
-
Can't begin to imagine how much stress you are under. Please keep your head up and reach out to any and all resources that are available to you. There is help out there.
-
Yeah i was pretty impressed when I saw the Hairbrush update. Ill definitely be using it. Probably overkill needing the two perks, 50% faster will already make a world of difference
-
I can't really see her getting either a buff or a nerf, maybe just some polishing up. She seems quite easy to learn, nothing complicated or over the top about her power, so I don't think theyre aiming too high with her.

Uhh…so I should be forced to play with either bots or friends instead of going out in the open and getting to play against other people, having to rely on friends disponibility to play casual or bots, which are awful to play against by the way.
If I buy a game, I expect to be at least able to play it the way I like in all of its iterations instead of limiting myself to a part of it because the rest is simply rigged.
I think because you mentioned competitive killers and survivors, OP assumed you were part of comp DBD. Comp DBD uses custom mode for their tourneys.

Minimum skill or not, it's still punishing the killer for not ignoring them when survivors do something stupid. NO GAME SHOULD DO THIS. Otz's ability to still win has no bearing on this.
As I and others have said before. Most of this I am okay with. It's the PUNISHMENT parts at the end that I have a problem with, especially the no more regression or blocking part.
Even the 25% bonus to generator repair speed I could deal with (though that number might be a bit high) but again, it's the punishment for hooking the same survivor back to back rather than just letting them keep working on a generator while you go look for someone else. Yeah, you can slug them but aren't we supposed to not do that anymore? Make up your mind!Just like anti-camp was for facecamping and not proxy camping, the anti-slug is for excessive slugging and not strategic slugging. There's a reason it unlocks at 90s. The pinned post from the devs even says as such, acknowledging the necessity of using slugging in certain situations.

Because no game should be balanced around what the best players of the game are able to pull off. If you don't understand this, then… I don't know what to say that won't get me banned.
I agree, though we frequently hear about what 4man swfs on comms can do and how everyone should be able to compete with them. It'd be nice if the playerbase as a whole recognized that most of us are average and the game should be balanced as such.
-
I feel like I dont see alot of Orela or Taurie. I see so many Lara's though
-
What thing?
And I dont understand the VHS comparison. The teens had weapons and could actively fight the monster. The teens had a means of reviving each other. Both things that absolutely made monster feel bad, but both are things DBD lacks. Also his opinion on why VHS failed is simply that - his opinion. I've also seen plenty of former players blame the devs for dragging the beta on for so long to the point where the experience gap between beta players and new players created a massive imbalance.
-
I just hate how it's addressed after I've dropped survivor 🤣 I've been wanting deadzone removal for ages
-
My beloved Vanity Mirror will be no more 😢
-
All I wanted for the longest time was deadzone removal, and of course it's here now when I've given up survivor lol
Myers update seems alot better with all the details laid out, but I'm gonna miss current Vanity Mirror
-
I doubt bloodpoints would provide much incentive to spread hooks tbh. The only that might provide an incentive would be have it affect emblems (ie ability to pip). But I doubt overhauling the emblem system would be an easy task.
-
Sadly I'm a console player. Planning to watch Slate test it out though. He seems to be the only streamer reserving judgement until he actually tries it out

This is why I dont really understand why they keep bringing back 2v8 without any substantial changes which would make Survivor more appealing and would therefore result in less problematic queuetimes for Killers. You wait 30 minutes for a game with a Killer AFK. Or I once waited 30 minutes for a Killer who was just sandbagging me. Or you wait 30 minutes just to end up with a Killer who is very new to the game and therefore makes it impossible for you to win.
If they would actually find some way to reduce the queuetimes by making more Survivors play 2v8 (and no, throwing BPs at them is not the way to go), we would have shorter queuetimes and issues like written above are not as impactful anymore. It is less likely that Killers are AFK and even if you might have a bad game because the other Killer is AFK, sandbagging or simply new, it does impact your experience way less if you only wait 5 minutes for a game instead of 30 minutes.
I honestly don't think there's any way to make survivor more appealing in 2v8. The novelty of being able to play with another killer will always be the popular choice in this mode

I'd rather BHVR just do the stream themselves on their channel than watch someone watching it. People shouldn't have to resort to watching people making videos reacting to the stream to watch it on other platforms when BHVR can just stream the live on multiple platforms themselves. Plus I find the watching people watching/reacting to videos thing pretty annoying.
Yeah I've tried watching BHVR streams a couple times through big streamers and gave up quickly. The streamers still talk with chat or make comments constantly throughout, and I end up missing half the info from the stream.

The game also advertises:
A Feast for Killers
- Dead by Daylight draws from all corners of the horror world. As a Killer you can play as anything from a powerful Slasher to terrifying paranormal entities. Familiarize yourself with your Killing Grounds and master each Killer’s unique power to be able to hunt, catch and sacrifice your victims.
But last I checked, especially after this upcoming patch, killers are neither powerful nor terrifying. Instead, it should read:
A Feast of "Killers"
- Dead by Daylight draws from all corners of the horror world. As a "Killer" you can play become a mild annoyance or minor speedbump on your way to becoming a prop in survivors' power trips. Familiarize yourself with your "Killing" Grounds and master each "Killer’s" kind of unique power (we re-use ideas A LOT) to be able to watch survivors mock you from complete safety more often than not.
So don't believe everything you read lol.
Literally nothing about that description changes if the update goes through. You still need to learn the killer's unique power and use it to hunt survivors lol

Yes, because god forbid survivors have to work as a team.
The game isnt even advertised as a team game. It literally says in the sales description that you can play as a lone wolf. The fact that doing so is likely to more often than not ruin your chances of escape is the biggest disincentive to doing so.

You are overestimating randoms. How many time you've got to the second stage because someone was doing any other things than rescuing? Or just got out of the hook in front of the killer? Or saw someone dropping a god pallet and going down 10s after?
Oh, after 4.5 years playing solo I've seen everything randoms can throw at me. I think this is probably the reason the devs also threw basekit Tenacity in there - realistically, a slugged survivor should be able to reach someone for help. And if they cant, then the 90s self pick-up is the backup.
-
@Rickprado said:
Complete objectivity, especially when discussing experiences, is something quite problematic from a philosophical point of view. But i don't think this type of discussion fits this forums.
Anyway, i think the discussions that we are having in this forum is quite productive for the game. Even if nothing comes to live the devs can see what the many parts of the community thinks about all of this changes.
My only concern is that most of these changes - in my opinion - don't make the survivor gameplay experience better, in particular at SoloQ. It just push people to sweating: lower tier killers will be in the worse state than they ever been, specially when we consider that part of these basekit buffs can be used aggressively without too much consequences; medium SWF and experienced survivor players will have a very good advantage over the killer, now that they are forced to swap hooks between the whole survivors;
One thing that i also want to point it out is that these changes HEAVILY disincentivize survivors too cooperate: i believe will be a common experience being left into the ground for 90s while the randoms do gens, or the in worst case, totems and chest or even heal with self-care since now they will take for granted that sometime you will be able to pick up yourself; or just being farmed in front of the killer because they believe the killer won't go after you. These changes rewards playing badly, and that why it raises concerns from a great part of community.
"i believe will be a common experience being left into the ground for 90s while the randoms do gens"
I think once they realize leaving a person slugged for the equivalent of an entire gen is what keeps costing them the game, they'll stop doing it. There's nothing efficient about that lol

I saw someone point out in a stream they always delay by a day after a public holiday. This was said before it was confirmed they pushed it back. Apparently Monday was a public holiday for the devs, so the person was right. Perhaps whoever wrote the notes forgot about the public holiday delaying things (or maybe they're not based in Canada)

IMO, if two survivors are dead and one's on the ground for thirty seconds, the hatch should just spawn to circumvent the slug-to-skip-hatch nonsense.
That could work. Like they could just program the game to treat the second last (slugged) survivor as dead after x amount of time so hatch spawns. That way the killer just takes their win instead of prolonging the game. It'll never be as bad as old hatch lol so seems like a good middle ground.
Honestly, Ive never understood slugging for the 4k. Once I've cinched my third kill my mind is already onto my next game. I'm well ready, mentally, to just move on.

Most of the time, this is true.
I wonder if this will finally show the real stats gap between mid and high tiers. I wonder if tunneling was helping to hide that issue?
Tunneling certainly made those Killers much easier to win many games in a row with.
This is exactly why I want the changes to go through.
I play mostly "weaker" killers, and the folks who tunnel help mask where those Killers need improvement.
I also want much needed SBMM improvements, which cant happen when people are artificially inflating their MMR using strats like tunnelling.
