  • The past month or so has been a definite head scratcher lol during one of the anniversary streams they acknowledged the survivor role hasn't been getting much love so this year will be about them, yet so far killers have had the best quality of life outcomes (ie can now see hook states, and fog vials being a mild inconvenience at worse). It's a bold move, let's see if if pays off.

  • As killer, the swamp maps. When i played survivor i always hated Lerys

  • I don't mind it as it's one less thing my brain needs to keep track of

Play it with the guitar perk and have a little symphony going.

Hopefully they'll make a keyboard or drums perk next.

This Vee had both and I received a couple of nice symphonies from them (I was letting the three of them go anyway because their team mate DC'd, I'm assuming, because i wasn't Krasue lol the music was the cherry on top)

Okay. So you wanna know why I still queue up? Well, I wanted to see what the new Killer was like. I only faced her once and didn't even have much interaction with her, so I still don't have a solid impression. So I'll have to queue up some more. And then I still have a few more quests to do.

Also, Killer gameplay bores me, so I can't bring myself to queue up as Killer.

Honestly, there's a killer for everyone. Try them out one by one, i guarantee you'll find one (or more) that you just click with. Recent killers have had alot of power creep, so if you work your way backwards then you'll probably find the older killers unappealing because alot of them require more game sense than more recent killers in order to get the best results. So I'd advise starting with the older killers and working your way up. Also, your experience playing survivor actually makes playing killer easier as you're familiar with all the tricks and hiding places lol

I've got some shelving to paint and install in my closets. Maybe now's the time.

Literally watching paint dry over DBD. We've reached the peak lol

there isnt. Swap to killer. I was a killer main for probably 3k hours of my play time. got bored of killer earlier this year and swapped. I went back to killer after this update its been so bad. But im still bored of killer so im not even really playing at this point. Gonna do some silent hill F tomorrow and today…idk I have a project due for a college elective in like two weeks so maybe ill just work on that.

Crazy when devs fumble so hard people would rather do a hella boring project than play ur game.

"Crazy when devs fumble so hard people would rather do a hella boring project than play ur game"

This made me laugh because I'm literally about to go and spring clean my kid's wardrobes even though I have quests to catch up on in DBD. I'm literally more motivated to clean than play DBD. And i only play killer too lol I'm thinking we have burn out

  • I quit survivor earlier in the year, the enjoyment just wasnt there for me anymore unfortunately. Games are great at giving that dopamine hit so people will always continue playing but if people want to voice unhappiness then simply stop buying auric cells and cosmetics. They're a business at the end of the day.

  • I guess they needed to throw survivors a bone since the rest of the update was such a kick up the behind lol

Because survivors keep weaponizing the endurance effect, against survivors that were trying to chase someone else.

Survivors weaponizing DS should be fixed too

This is killer rulebook stuff. Nowhere does it say you can't use endurance to help a team mate. Everyone pretty much unanimously believes the survivor experience would be much better if everyone played as a team, so let them play as a team.

FNaF was an overall success and this happens with every single update with player count going up and down. This is a normal thing for every single video game out there it's not just DBD.

It was undoubtedly a financial success, but i believe OP is referring to the fact that they haven't seemed to have retained the majority of the players it brought in

I dont need to do the math if I have the exact same pace as last rift while not playing more. If anything i did play less than last rift. So the math wont do anything else here.

It's not. I don't play every day and had no issues completing the last one. In fact, i even said on this very forum that the last one was fine for casual players while i was completing it. If you play every day then the pace is the same because of the changes to dailies. But those who don't play every day will notice it.

  • I'm at 67 so not much further along. If I don't finish it then whatever, just means I'll hold off on buying the rift pass next time

Killers have always been significantly louder than survivors despite being a smaller group. Content creators who main killer also wield a very disproportionate amount of influence over what happens to the game. Probably because they take everything so seriously. Compare how serious Otzdarva and truetalent are compared to people like Skermz and JRM. Otz will release a 20 hour video talking about why a change shouldn't happen. After this he will go on stream every day for weeks and complain until the change is reverted. There is no one on the survivor side who does anything like this. People like JRM are content to make the killer fall into a hole. They never talk about balance or offer any suggestions about how to change the game for the better. Basically I think that killers mains are louder and this is why they usually end up getting what they want. Survivor mains are content to be punching bags and Behavior doesn't care as long as they keep buying skins.

"Probably because they take everything so seriously"

Not sure if you've ever watched Hardcore Survivor, but the difference between the killer main content creators and the survivor main content creators was interesting to observe lol Otz and Dowsey spent the whole time trying to get JRM and Ayrun to take it seriously. Then Hens took over from Dowsey later down the line and he was even more on edge, constantly going off at JRM and Ayrun. They were all playing survivor for those games, but it was no surprise to me that the players (Otz, Dowsey, Hens) most drawn to killer were assertive and competitive, while the ones drawn to survivor (JRM and Ayrun) just wanted to have fun lol it made for a very interesting dynamic

  • Complaints. I dont think 40 hours or whatever it was before they announced it wasnt happening is enough to get proper data.

  • Probably why the devs were trying to address things like slugging and tunnelling. So they, and we, could get a more accurate picture.

  • @tyantlmumagjiaonuha said:

The idea that you can practice against bots beforehand in custom games is completely off the mark and utterly ridiculous. What the original poster is highlighting is that new players with zero or near-zero PvP playtime are being matched against survivors who already have hundreds or thousands of hours under their belts.

This is just one example of how, even when new users start playing DBD for various reasons, matchmaking and player population issues make it difficult for them to stick around.

OP is not a new player

Tbf OP sounds like he is not the best player, but myers IS dogwater against people who are actually good.

I think OP is new. Plus 1 kill and the other 3 on death hook isn’t a bad result imo. That's a 9 hook game.

  • With flashlights, looking up or down can negate them. They can be unavoidable during certain locked in actions, but once you have camera control then you can avoid them. It gets easier with practice. I play alot of Myers and have very good results. I'll add that he had an update not long ago that might make a number of older YouTube videos about how to play him redundant, just in case you happen to watch any of them for advice.

  • I use custom games to familiarize myself with the controls before hopping on live. Most killers have a degree of skill transfer so I don't expect the game to throw me less experienced players. It really doesn't take long to build muscle memory imo.

Reduced rarity of FToH makes me happy

  • Nothing wrong with that, I did similar and quit survivor some months back. That's always been allowed.

  • Plot Twist always looks like Nic Cage sitting on a toilet to me

  • Congrats to the winners!

Oh have you ever experienced the plot twist interectaction?

No, I haven't. I think that was more of a meme when PT first came out, not a serious strategy.

  • I only really use Corrupt. I like to play around with my builds as I get bored easily and that's really what's always kept me engaged. Probably why Chaos Shuffle was always my favourite mode.

  • I don't play survivor anymore (outside of specific quests) but i can tell you, it never used to be this bad a few years ago. You always had useless team mates but they were few and far between. I feel like maybe they're not retaining enough new players to keep them all in the same SBMM bracket while they learn, and they now get thrown in with the general playerbase. I dunno. You always hear about "the weak link," because it's just the standard these days that solo teams will have at least one survivor with low hours. They're usually the ones I'll let live when I get them in my games because it's not their fault the matchmaking system failed them.

  • If i recall correctly, the devs have mentioned Legion as being a popular starter killer for newcomers. They have a high pick rate in low MMR. There are plenty of DBD veterans who love and main Legion, which is great and there's nothing wrong with that, but i feel they're a killer alot of players outgrow as they advance.

  • Being a console player and not being able to test him in PTB, I'm trying to remain on the fence. I was really happy with his last smaller update and didn't think he needed a rework so soon after, but I've also seen folks who play Myers more than I do say they're happy with the rework so I'm trying to reserve judgement. My understanding is i can still play current Myers but will need the iri add-on, which is kind of a bummer. Also not a fan of Vanity Mirror's rework.

    Are you serious right now?

    Using flashlights.
    Body blocking.
    Sticking to gens.
    Pre-Running.
    Sabotaging a hook.
    Using Head-on.
    Using Blast Mine.
    Using Flashbang.
    Using Power Struggle.
    Using Dead Hard.
    Using Distortion.
    Hiding.
    Trying to attract attention.
    Stunning the killer.
    Having any second chance perk.
    Protecting teammates.
    Not protecting teammates.
    Unhooking too fast.
    Unhooking too slow.

There are very few things that survivors can do, especially when it comes to direct interactions with the killer, that are not constantly cited as toxic/unacceptable behavior that justifies retribution. The difference is that killers are given the agency to enact their retribution. Survivors can only appeal to BHVR to change the rules, like any other unpleasant/unhealthy meta in any online game, or killers' better nature, which is treated as 'attempting to police them.' "Please don't do this," vs "If you do this, I will punish and BM you" are both rules for the other side, but only one has agency.

Using endurance offensively is a "rule" i see often too. Apparently perks like DS or OTR should only be used to protect yourself and not your team mates. Simultaneously, you'll be told the survivor experience is bad because people play for themselves instead of as a team. And when your team mate is being tunnelled you're supposed to stick to gens, but if they go down too quickly it's also your fault for not taking aggro. It can get confusing.

  • How close it is. Games that can go either way are always my favourite. Steamrolling or being steamrolled is the worst.

Kind of crazy because I've been following the numbers since there were so many arguments about what queue times would be pre-patch. Nearly 8 minutes for killers on the German server at the moment.

If you just play during primetime hours servers look reasonable around the world, but outside those hours they quickly get out of whack.

Yeah i play around midday and my queue times are around 5 mins

  • MrTatorhead on YT has some good tile and looping guides

  • I dropped survivor awhile ago and feel so much better for it. So it wasnt because of this update, it was just time. I think i held onto the role for longer than I should have, as I'd been playing less and less survivor games for awhile in the lead up. When they announced the health focus this year I kind of thought it might rekindle my interest in the role but it didnt happened. It's also been good on my bank account as I no Ionger buy survivor cosmetics and killer cosmetics never interested me.

  • Honestly, you probably saw him alot as he drew alot of new players to the game. Alot of them likely decided this game wasnt for them and are simply no longer playing anymore. Most of the older established playerbase already have their favourites theyve probably gone back to.

  • Honestly, just don't play survivor. I can't begin to tell you how less frustrating this game is for me since I stopped playing survivor. I save up the survivor specific quests and just knock them out asap every few weeks.

  • I was playing earlier today (Freddy) and i had no issues thankfully. Only downside was the queue times, which i thought would improve after 2v8 but i guess not.

  • @DaSonic said:

Yup, people now know that BHVR will just bend if you create enough threads on the forum and spam them on twitter and reddit complaining about it.
Even if these changes make a return next PTB with some slight tweaks, they will just repeat the same thing as they did now since they know it will work.

It was probably the review bombing on Steam. In less than 48 hours they took the game from Positive to "Mixed."

  • I used Surge on Freddy (so kicked every working gen i teleported to) got a 3k (let last survivor go), and still didn't get it 😤 does Surge not work towards it?

  • He probably just doesn't play survivor much. Great skill checks can be hard at first but once the muscle memory sets in it's alot easier. He probably hasn't played enough to understand that.

  • I only played to get this week's 'escape through hatch' quest done, otherwise I wouldnt get it done. So the extension ended up working out for me lol I am glad it's done though, hopefully my queue times improve now

Right now it's clear the current situation leaves killer with the advantage as tunneling and slugging is maximizing your advantages in game. I think adding protections survivors will use as leverage aggressively is always going to happen a survivor using it shouldn't be seen as abusing it or cause to destroy a system that can clearly work.

What you need to do after that is give the killer things he can maximize in other situations to balance it. I think the hook were the right direction just not enough for some killers.

What I think should happen is killers should get dynamic buffs depending on the killer for example the haste is kinda useless for some killers. But I think a fun albeit complicated one would be some killers get charged abilitie for hooking like trapper resets all his traps to plus gives him more. Nemesis getting permanent zombie speed increase with a cap being what the add on gives. Idk I'm no game designer with number tweaks and so many helpful buffs for killers to choose from there is definitely away to make it feel good and fun with our forcing some out of the game or to eat dirt all match.

All traps beyond a certain distance from the hook resetting would be a perfect individualised buff for Trapper imo

no but you’re trying to portray this delay as a product of nothing but uninformed outrage instead of what it was, a needed delay of extremely flawed changes.

No, I was literally referring to the fact that the meltdowns started before the PTB had even started, and as such prevented constructive conversations from being had on this forum once it had come out. I said nothing about identified flaws.

It's because very obviously, survivor players are collectively more casual, and will never interact with the outside community outside of playing the game. Survivor players HAVE to be at a higher number than killer players to keep matches flowing (which hasn't been the case for quite a while), frankly they just don't care anymore. It's been multiple years of "can't wait to play DBD!" 'queues into a 3k hour blight main slugging and tunneling gets off the game for a week hoping it'll get better'. They're fatigued like crazy. You quite literally can go play any other game on the market and feel like your time isn't being utterly wasted because you actually have a 50% chance to win, and even if you don't win in the vast majority of scenarios you will be able to find enjoyment in that game. No one finds enjoyment sitting on the ground for 4 minutes staring at their phone, no one finds enjoyment sitting in lobby for 2/5ths of their in match time because they got tunneled for just trying to have fun.

Someone said it a few days ago, the hyper competitive people who play this game are killing it, rapidly. They are the ones outcrying on the forums constantly because they need to win, even if they don't want to put the effort into getting better to. DBD is inherently a party game, it always has been, sadly this hyper-competitiveness isn't a DBD exclusive thing, BHVR has just done absolutely nothing to stop it from destroying the casual playerbase too.

"BHVR has just done absolutely nothing to stop it from destroying the casual playerbase"

I've said a few times already, that 10 years in is (in my opinion) too late for these sorts of proposed changes. As someone who enjoys M1 and "weaker" killers, and who doesn't tunnel or slug, i can recognise how unpopular tactics help mask issues with certain killers and prevent them from getting their much needed updates. But BHVR let this stuff fester for too long, it is now ingrained in the game's culture, and they will experience pushback no matter what they do.

They may have an 'intended' way of playing the game, but they made no effort to teach it to players entering the game. Instead, they left it up to popular content creators, who are by and large more competitive, to carry this game to the point it's at 10 years later. Where the "optimal" ways to play, and the metas you expect everyone to subscribe to, have been well and truly established.

Obviously this is just my opinion, but I suspect all these changes theyre proposing to put through now is because theyre no longer retaining new players at the comfortable rate they once were. Because i think alot of new players enter this game casually, and most immediately determine that's not the experience theyre going to get and leave. The competitive folk stick around though. But the time for addressing this was years ago. Unless the compensation for not slugging or tunnelling is greater than the current benefits of doing so, the competitive side of DBD will pushback.
