  • I have no doubt we will see him soon. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I hope they stay true to his character and don't overdo him. I get that he might be an odd fit in modern DBD but he's such a horror icon that he deserves a place here.

The AFK crows are so easily delayed and bypassed that I’ve literally not seen a survivor with 3 crows in literal months of playing the game.

How on earth can you twist that to “not as fast as I want”? So you would be ok if the anti-tunneling changes were nerfed so badly that you never ever saw them activate? And if you complain, I could say “they do work, just not as fast as “”you”” want”???

Maybe you're not seeing them because the survivors are progressing the game? In the first iteration, people were getting them just trying to find and remove hex totems. That's not AFK.

i hate lightborn too its just lazy tbh, i'm with the rework lightborn crowd

imagine a perk where the killer just couldnt kick gens the entire game lmao. kinda feels the same, you just remove an entire mechanic for the entire duration of the game with the use of a single perk its bunz

my idea of a rework that would make it feel healthier imo would be:

to make it so "out-of-sight" survivors i.e. a survivor who hasnt been spotted by the killer within seconds can by pass the "lightborn" effect. if they get spotted, the lightborn effects activate and they can no longer blind the killer. this means they still cant blind at pallets and cant constantly predrop into blind over and over again but also punishes the killer for not scouting the pick up area, and survivors hiding for the save have a chance (if they dont get spotted).

lightborns current effects are just outdated

As someone who sometimes uses Lightborn (i hate the blindness screen effect) when there's multiple flashlights in lobby, i think a rework would be fine. A change of effect when blinded would be even better tbh but that's only a personal wish. I do think though that it would run the risk of increasing lobby dodging when there are multiple flashlights.

  • I just play when I feel like it. That works for me. The quests are good as well as it gives me something to focus on when I do feel like playing. Otherwise I'll hop on Phasmophobia, or i put on the Switch for some relaxing Mario or Zelda. Don't wrap too much of your time up in the game. I find I enjoy it more when I'm not playing constantly.

  • I was hoping it was just bugged but seems that's not the case. I'm not spending money on this, not worth it.

  • I play alot of Pig too. Some teams have good gen efficiency, and it's really not unusual for a gen or two to pop early. Once you get that first hook though, the game should start to slow down - especially when it comes to Pig as she has built in gen slowdown in the form of her traps. You can pretty reasonably assume that once a survivor with a trap is unhooked, they won't be hopping immediately on a gen. They'll be trying to remove their head trap. Even if they hold off a little bit, they will still need to sink time trying to remove their trap at some point.

One thing to consider is that unless the killer is providing pressure, survivors have nothing else to do but sit on a gen. If a chase is going for too long then leave it and go back to patrolling gens. Smart survivors will also try and draw chase away from working gens, so be aware and don't stray too far with a Killer like Pig as she doesn't have strong map traversal.

I agree with it all. I did read where OTZ stopped streaming DBD and his views went way down. The fact of the matter the Devs need to start seeing without the player base there will not be a game to stream. The streamers need to recheck their egos and deal with any changes the Devs put forth the health of the game. Most players don’t stream for a living and that’s just that. Streamers can be replaced. I actually watched Demi just because he’s funny but I don’t agree with some things he does but he’s extremely critical of the devs.

A number of DBD streamers I watch have said the same. Theyve tried to go variety streaming but their views drop. The end result is that we have a bunch of influential but burned out streamers forcing themselves to play the game because they've got bills to pay.

  • Yeah it's unusual. I'll assume it's bugged unless told otherwise. The free rift seems really empty.

  • @BloodBird said:

Say what you will, but you don't NEED to chase every survivor who takes you to 5 pallet loops, take a few out and go check your gens, I'm not saying the update isnt an issue, but I am saying there is things you can do. For M1 killers who don't have great chase, thats what brutal is for, and gen regression perks. if you have good game sense and know the m1 macro gameplay style well, you take out a few pallets per chase, injure a few people, get a few downs, and slowly work your way into a more advantageous map position. Yes it sounds tedious but its how you win with M1 killers now more than ever.

I do it all the time, even as Trapper, Freddy, Ghostface.

Yup, this. If the loop is too strong, I leave. I catch up with that survivor later elsewhere. Even before this update that was my approach.

  • Purely a guess on my behalf, but i suspect they might give it another go maybe after the SBMM update

  • I hope so, though I dont want to pallet stun the horse like that 😭

The general playerbase is so burnt out of how ######### the average match is that they literallywould rather endure time-out time than play another second of the game.

Then they should stop queuing idc. People queuing for a game that they don’t enjoy is childish behaviour that I have no empathy for whatsoever. If someone’s response to dissatisfaction with a game is to ruin the game for everyone else then I don’t think they’re worth listening to.

They will stop queuing. These people have quit the game, they just haven't realised it yet.

But thats just false per the data that BHVR releases. Nurse is CONSISTENTLY one of the lowest if not THE lowest in terms of kill rate. Showing that "at the average level" the average killer player is doing very badly with her.

Since Nurse is free with the base game, I'd say it's more likely that new players try her once, determine she's too difficult to learn, and drop her immediately.

  • Dont compare yourself to people who play for a living. They're not the norm.

  • @Crowman said:

It's silly how often BHVR creates more work for themselves by touching things that didn't need to be touched. There was no reason to change Myer's power to be a chargeable dash attack. It was perfectly fine that he was an M1 killer who stalks to become stronger.

Exactly. I thought he felt great after his previous update. They should have used the time and bandwidth to sort out Twins or another killer.

  • @ImWinston said:

    • I don't want to defend the Devs, but if you do the challenges, both the daily ones and the "special" ones (like 2Vs8 challenges), progressing in the rift is quite easy. In my opinion, according to the Devs' philosophy, the ideal is to play "a few games" (like 2-3 a day) but every day. Obviously, if you play 1 day a week (maybe playing 10 games), you will still progress very little in the rift.

Not everyone can, or wants to, play every day. People have work, social, kids, and sports commitments, plus all the other fun things that come with running a household. Not to mention when people do have time for a few games one night they might feel like playing a different game and not DBD. The devs can absolutely make it so you need to play daily to make it through the Rift, it's their game afterall. But in all likelihood a lot of people who can't play every day will just stop buying the Rift Pass because they don't feel it's worth it if they can't finish it. That's the case with me anyway.

  • I'm not finishing it, i think the highest one i got was step 6 for hooking survivors. I've barely played since before 2v8 started.

  • I had to play survivor this morning to finish the chapter quests and as soon as I heard Oni I got excited, but it wasn't the grizzly 😭 my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined

I think I played some games on the mid to late 80s Prodigy Internet connection, but didn't have a lot of computer time allotted and I preferred spending it on King's Quest (if my older brain is remembering the names right).

Well, in my experience I find Killer the harder role, in part because I've never found it too difficult to memorize large quantities of information (i.e. Each individual Killer and their powers), and in part because it's much easier for me, playing Survivor, to simply not care about counterplay or other such stuff.

That's what Survivor has always given me the leeway to do. To not care. To simply buckle down and not worry about playing my best, because I know I'll at least perform adequately no matter what.

My escape rate is 42%, for reference. Pretty average for a solo surv, as of BHVR's last stat release.

I've never had any such luxury of not caring when I play Killer. If I run loops wrong, if I use my power wrong, if at any moment I'm not devoting my full attention to what's happening in front of me, it will invariably cost me distance, time, and eventually kills.

I've always played chill regardless of the role, but a key difference between the two is that I'm only playing for myself as killer. I know how to play my favourite killers, and i know when to drop chase, and i know how to apply map pressure and keep survivors busy. This is not hard for me because I do it every single game, over and over and over. I get games against difficult opponents but I accept that the better player will win, and sometimes it's not me. As survivor, i also never cared if I'd win or lose, but i did recognise that i was part of a team. It wasn't just about me.

Regardless, the discussion was about which role is harder in general and my previous response still stands for why I think survivor is the harder role to learn in this game. There is simply more to learn and every game is different to the last.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4008483#Comment_4008483

No. So let's get into the nitty-gritty: Apart from vibes, what specifically makes you think Survivor is the harder role?

Also, are you playing low-tier or high-tier Killers? Because it's worth noting that I almost exclusively play mid-tiers.

I play Pig, Chucky, Freddy, Myers, Wraith, Xeno, and Demo. I'll play the odd game with others but these are the ones I enjoy.

I find killer easier, and I've always maintained it's because i played survivor as well. I can often predict their moves, even guess where they're hiding, because I literally would play the same way. Aside from perks, there's nothing to significantly differentiate my opponents each game.

The flipside doesnt apply to the same capacity because there are currently over 40 killers in the game for survivors to learn the powers of, and how to counter them. Some killers have a lower pick rate than others, which leaves even less opportunity to understand or know how to play against their opponent.

Most of the time, I don't even pay attention to hook states, meaning tunneling will inevitably occur in my games, either intentionally or unintentionally.

I literally play Survivor regularly; I'm vastly more relaxed playing Survivor than Killer, win or lose. Are you going to try and dismiss my subjective experience?

I played both roles for 4 years until I quit survivor at the beginning of the year and now just play killer. Is your experience more valid than mine?

  • @Monlyth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4008425#Comment_4008425

It's not that hard; all you really gotta do is play a passive, gen jockey-unhooker-healer style of Survivor.

Sometimes the Killer finds you first, of course, but other games (Even against fairly competent Killers), you can spend the entire match just holding M1 and doing rescues/heals in peace. It's what I tend to do when I want to play as relaxed of a match as possible.

Survivor is only as easy as the killer allows it to be. You've said before that you tunnel, so I can understand why you'd think survivor is easy when every game you pretty much leave 3 survivors with nothing much to do.

  • @Monlyth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4008204#Comment_4008204

If you consider accurately describing Survivor gameplay to be bad faith, I'd appreciate a warning that you are simply looking to bash Killer and defend Survivor, not have an honest discussion.

Killer is the harder role; it has proven so time and time again. There's nothing particularly wrong with that, mind you; it goes with the territory of playing a 4v1 game. The team-based role will always be the more relaxed one, because the burden of winning the game is split among four people.

But saying a role that can literally spend an entire match doing nothing but moving from Point A to Point B and holding M1 is more difficult is disingenuous at best.

"saying a role that can literally spend an entire match doing nothing but moving from Point A to Point B and holding M1 is more difficult is disingenuous at best"

If that's all survivors are doing, then the killer isnt doing a very good job

  • I havent even bought her and currently have no plans to. Ill nab her perks eventually from the Shrine

  • I always hated when they'd miss one or two and then run away lol no, you stay and deal with the consequences of your actions

  • Just play whoever you enjoy. I play alot of what people refer to as "weaker" killers, but i literally play them because i enjoy them. It's not any deeper than that for me. It sounds like it was just this particular bad game that has tilted you, but I can tell you that everyone of us has bad games now and then. Gotta get in the habit of mentally just moving on once theyre over.

I could say the same about the last update. Infinite item charges with Streetwise for Survivors, Insanely fast vault speed with Last Stand, a new Survivor who's screams are not directional, etc..

Yes, Krasue is too strong. Yes, OTR should grant endurance. But the reason these changes were pushed it is because BHVR sucks at playtesting, balancing and listening to their community. Not because they hate Survivor.

Hell, they intended to push out insanely Survivor sided anti-slugging/anti-tunneling changes, and only depayed them when 90% of their player aye yelled at them what a terrible idea it was. They also put pallets every 5 meters this patch, which was added to live.

"Infinite item charges with Streetwise for Survivors, Insanely fast vault speed with Last Stand, a new Survivor who's screams are not directional, etc.."

This is the "anti go next" system at work though. The DC penalty rework was also part of this.

They did remove the 4%, but that was a tiny part of it. The real "go next" system is a convoluted behind the scenes system that does exactly what op describes: it attempts to evaluate if a survivor is "trying" and if they aren't "trying hard enough" they get a warning, then increasing dc penalties for what the system sees as "giving up".

And if a survivor gets hard tunneled out of the game fast enough (by the killers discretion), they will get this warning, even if they are trying to play.

The system is awful, and overly punishing people who did nothing wrong, yet they pushed it out initially in 9.0 with no testing, pulled it, and snuck it back in with no warning later.

And it also hasn't solved the issue of people giving up either.

So basically just the standard BHVR overkill lol

Survivors should be renamed to victims because that’s what the role is, Killer main content creators have this game by the balls

But I doubt the play while you wait feature will be implemented because enough survivors are still queuing up to be punching bags

"Killer main content creators have this game by the balls"

It's what happens when, instead of having a proper tutorial system, they just leave the content creators to teach everyone how to play. Their word becomes gospel.

More with the personal attacks 🙄

The irony here is that you accuse me of having “zero consideration for the perspective of others,” while defending a playstyle that literally denies others the ability to participate in the game. Tunneling is not just “another annoyance” like a perk, a killer power, or a map tile. It is the one strategy that completely removes someone from the match within minutes. That is not subjective. It is a measurable difference in how the match plays out.

I am also aware that my opinion towards tunneling IS subjective. Im not saying its not. However, my opinion is shared with a majority of players. If the majority of anything has an opinion, people usually side with that majority as it serves the best interest of the majority. That's not a me thing…thats just life lol. Literally the reason for votes…to see the majority opinion and act on it.

You are right that people do not owe blind trust, but multiplayer games do rely on a social contract. The unspoken agreement is simple: everyone in the lobby gets the chance to actually play. That is the baseline expectation in any interactive experience. If your approach to the game is “I am not obligated to care about anyone else’s experience,” then you are proving my point about selfishness driving toxicity.

And let us be clear. This is not about kindness, nor about forcing people to play “nice.” This is about match health. Survivors make up four out of five slots in every game. If a large portion of them decide they are done putting up with tunneling, the game dies. That is not an opinion. It is math. The OP is evidence of that as they are leaving the game for this reason.

"And you are not obligated to show kindness to people who don't value kindness." Completely agree, so when you experience toxicity and hate because of YOUR behavior, then feel flustered about it…remember your own philosophy. According to your logic because of your personal attacks towards me, I should be warranted to attack you personally. But I'm not gonna…because I'm a grown up. Remember the personal attacks started with you. Not me. So use that knowledge to think about your quote and the irony of you saying it.

You can disagree with me, but resorting to personal jabs like “I feel bad for anyone who has to deal with you in real life” shows you are arguing from spite rather than from logic. If the only way to defend tunneling is to attack people personally instead of addressing the actual point, maybe that says more about the weakness of the defense than about me.

As for your bit about your gender-identity. You don't my identity, my sexuality, my anything, and I plan to keep it that way because it is COMPLETLEY irrelevant to the discussion. And if you make more personal attacks because of me hiding my personal information…then that is a reflection of your hate. Anything about me is based solely off your presumptions and negative emotions directed at me. And what you learned from being non-binary…is something every human ever learns regardless of demographic.

The fact that me essentially arguing "be good and fair to one another and strive for mutual enjoyment" is met by your personal attacks is crazy lol.

You're wasting your energy at this point. For some players, tunnelling is so ingrained (or if they've tunnelled themselves into an MMR bracket that they don't belong in, they truly see it as necessary to compete at that level) that asking them not to is akin, in their mind, to asking them to lose every game.

fog vials let survivors have a slightly higher escape rate than 40% so they had to be nerfed. basically if anything has ANY impact on the game whatsoever it doesn't get to exist in a state where it will be used.

I dont think they were around long enough to determine that tbh

  • They already removed survivors being able to let go on hook, I don't know why this suspicious behaviour thing was even implemented. The anti-go next was all that was needed.

  • I didnt see it but we had an issue here in the past where someone was posting gore. It went on for way too long. I'm sure they have some sort of setting where new members maybe need to await approval for posting images?

  • Anyone know if he's still controller friendly? Ive seen multiple people say his slaughtering strike is janky, and I know console players tend to feel these things the most.

  • Definitely take a break if you need it! Your health is important. Things will hopefully feel a lot less volatile next month. The Halloween event is pretty exciting

I'll add that I've always been neutral on the downvote option, it hasn't bothered me, but if it's going to start driving people from the forum then I vote too that we just remove them.

  • In light of everything else that's happened over the past couple months, I'm thinking fog vials were intended to make other items like toolboxes, flashlights, and medkits less frequent. Not by being useful and picked more often, but by clogging up the bloodweb. This is just based on the complete silence the devs have had towards their uselessness.

  • An eye for an eye makes the world blind. If we all dished out what we copped then the game we all enjoy suffers for it. I play some "weaker" killers because I enjoy them, and tbags don't change that. If someone is being rude then I don't see why you can't match their energy, but only to them. I never understand those who say "I had a rude opponent last game so I made my next opponents pay for it" (not saying this is what you're doing, it's just a common sentiment i see). Having said all that, most of my interactions with survivors are neutral, frequently positive, and on the odd occasion negative. I don't let the latter dictate how I play.
