The funny thing is that before I started to view the forum and the reddits, tbagging was just a positive way of expression towards others in my mind. Like many survivors when they meet first time in the game - tbag to say "hi" or when you unhook and heal someone, they can tbag to say "thx" - I see it often all the time. Then I read those topic about it and it was a culture shock 😮 I can only imagine that there are some casual people that don't view any media, they tbag at the gate to say "Thank you for the match Mr. Killer", oblivious to the fact the person have now emotional surge until they get a end game chat about it.

This reminds me of a post i remember seeing here a long time ago, where someone posted a video asking why the killer seemed to be friendly and give them hatch, only to then down them and hook them. Watching the video, the survivor has their back to the killer and starts rapidly tbagging next to hatch lol alot of us had to explain that if you want to thank the killer, then face them and crouch once, or if you have an item then leave it for them. The poor survivor thought they were expressing their thanks lol there's definitely some nuance to it

  • If you bought him via the DBD store then I believe the sale is final. If you bought him via your platform store (ie Steam or PS store etc) then there might be a grace period.

  • I wonder if there's an option they can select, where if a post gets flagged a certain number of times it gets pulled for moderation? That seems like it should be a thing

  • It's not that loser's first rodeo. He knows when the lulls in moderation are. He'll be back with a fresh account the next time he's unhappy with the game, making his mental instability our problem yet again.

If you're still struggling with that quest I'd suggest using Vigil, Lightweight, Ghost Notes and Sprint Burst to get it done. I'm totally addicted to this build because so long as you're not injured and can break line of sight, you can do a disappearing act because your scratch marks will disappear so quickly. It's very effective when paired with the void crystals.

Streamers have done videos on this build so I'm sure it's already on BHVR's chopping block (even though I've never actually seen anyone else using it). I'm going to enjoy it while I still can.

Thanks for the advice! I actually did manage to get it done after a few games, thankfully. What worked was running between the killer and whoever they were chasing, then dropping it lol

I always find it curious how differently people playing the same game can experience it. For me, Killer is the "chill" role. Of course, it wasn't that way when I started playing and encountered my first bully squads, but I have to tools and to handle those guys for the most part now. I'm a former Survivor main that has flipped roles fairly recently (I only play Survivor now during events, modifiers and when Nintendo Switch is isolated from the rest of the player base).

Killer can be as chill or as sweaty as you make it, imo. As Killer, I can decide exactly how I want to play most of the time. I can cool it a little if my opponents are struggling or I can kick it up a gear against the sweatier teams. I have more freedom to run the perks I like. I can give hatch if I feel merciful or I can treat myself to a 4K. If I see a lobby giving me SWF vibes with multiple beamers and toolboxes, I can bring Lightborn and Mad Grit to counter. I mostly play for hooks and chases not just for Kills as my personal "win condition" (or landing impressive curves if I'm playing as Billy). Sure, I still get the bags now and again. But most of the time I don't know what my opponents think about the way I play because I keep the chat window closed unless I'm 100% certain everyone had a good time. So many aspects for the "feel" of the trial are in my control when I play Killer.

That's often not the case as Survivor. I'm at the mercy of the whims of the rest of the lobby. There's always a chance that something will happen that will put me in a rotten mood and make me want to switch off the game. Maybe a Survivor will unhook me in the Killer's face for no sensible reason and get me tunnelled out. I might be left to go second by oblivious teammates. Or a teammate might decide to grief me because they saw me get into a locker. Maybe the Killer decides their strategy will be to slug everyone out. Maybe I'll be tunnelled by the Killer because that was always their plan / they have a vendetta against Scene Partner, Head On or because they just don't like Megheads. I don't have a good time, I don't get to progress my quests and my time feels like it's been wasted. It also feels like there is more at stake to winning and losing as Survivor. If I go on a losing streak, my teammates get progressively worse and it becomes harder and harder to dig myself out of SoloQ hell. If you lose as Killer, it's back to mashing potato teams for a bit until you get back to where you were. No big deal.

All this is in spite of my Survivor games being easier than in recent times and Killer being harder (I put this down to pallet density changes and casual players abandoning the game en masse).

It's exactly the same for me. I had to do that 'lose chase after dropping a void crystal' quest this morning, and my hubby stuck his head in the room asking what I kept yelling about. I did not enjoy a single one of those survivor games. I was on edge. Switched to play Freddy afterwards and immediately felt my shoulders relax. I have no one i have to rely on when I play killer, no expectations, it's just me and the game is what I make it. Outside of quests, I just can't play survivor.

  • Personally, I think the turning point was when they just left content creators to "teach" everyone how to play. The average player didn't set the tone of the modern DBD.

  • Massive improvement

  • I haven't seen any changes that suggest survivor escape rates will hit an insane level. This is just typical doomposting.

I have to ask. What is your definition of "hand holding."?

I would argue hand holding is giving somebody an unfair advantage. So how is basekit Borrowed Time and anti-face camp unfair advantages? It's the opposite. Face camping a hook and instant downing the unhook had no counter play.

But you seem to think hand holding is any time a buff, nerf, or rework you don't like happens.

    This.

I don't tunnel or slug so most of those changes are irrelevant to me. I would agree its hand-holding if these were actual advantages that were felt across the board, but the only folks that are likely to feel this are those who go directly back to hook to continue to chase the unhooked survivor or those who slug for long periods of time. And that's exactly who they're supposed to effect. It's evening the playing field a bit more in those situations, and giving players a chance, not a guarantee. The rest of us won't even notice this stuff.

looping is literally going in circles, i dont think it takes that much skill. a new survivor can go in a circle around a pallet just like a new killer can tunnel except a killer actually needs to down someone to start the tunneling process while a survivor just needs to find a pallet or vault.

based on this whole if you use something to climb the ranks and feel you need it to win this can be applied to literally anything. a player that uses SWF for example, so many have said they wont do solo because its bad and they cant win…maybe these people used SWF to climb the ranks and should cop the loss and stay in the MMR bracket they belong? or someone that just cant win without using sprint burst? maybe they should stop using it, take the loss and stay in the MMR bracket they should be at? where does this mindset end? it almost sounds like people should intentionally under perform in matches to tank their MMR to go against easier opponents.

It's literally not just running in circles lol if you think that then there's no point in having this discussion. There's a reason looping guides are so popular. There are various different tiles across various different maps, all with their own preferable pathing depending on whether you are killer or survivor. Once you learn this it's easy to use for your own advantage, even as killer. Learning tiles and loops isn’t just for survivors. Other factors like check spots and blood-lust also need to be considered. This is all knowledge you slowly gain as you play more and more.

And to your other point - playing in a swf doesn't suddenly make you a good player. If you go down in chase 10s into a match in solo queue, you're probably going to go down in 10s into a chase in a swf. You dont need to purposely underperform at all. It's not hard to accept that the more you win, the harder your opponents get. It's literally how the game functions currently. If I go up against a good team I accept that they're probably going to win. That's literally all there is to it. There's no equivalent in survivor that can get a new player to rise quickly in MMR the way tunnelling can for new killers. Not even Sprint Burst lol

  • I havent heard of anyone losing their account over dying too quickly, if that's what you're asking. Just a loss of grade and warning.

does this apply to looping too? survivors loop new killers and then get into high MMR where they feel they need to loop to win?

Maybe? My post is based on what a dev themselves said. Maybe they have the info on looping too. Though I'd argue becoming a good looper takes more time and experience than being a tunneller does. A new player can pick up the game today and start the ball rolling on tunnelling. Can't say the same for a good looper.

Killers uninstall because even THEY don't want to play survivor

This made me laugh because I was thinking exactly the same thing

  • People tunnel because it's the path of least resistance to a win. It's been happening since I first started playing, and its continued to happen through aaalll the different metas and all the nerfs and all the buffs, and it will continue to happen always. Nowadays, with the SBMM system, it helps push players into higher MMR brackets before theyre ready to compete at that level, which is why so many players feel they "need" to tunnel to get results. My advice is always to cop your losses and stay in a suitable MMR bracket. Everyone wants to reach high MMR, and yet everyone simultaneously hates competitive/sweaty opponents lol that's literally who you find up there

Here are my last 10 matches as survivor, you ready?

    • Ghoul
    • Ghoul
    • Blight
    • Nurse
    • Myers
    • Ghoul
    • Ghoul
    • Pig
    • Ghostface
    • Blight

I doubt this is because of the recent pallet changes. Ghoul has been a commonly picked killer since he was released.

  • If their intent is to start at the given time but a technical difficulty or other mishap means they can't, then it's not "false." It's just a delay. You can always watch the VOD later if the delay is inconvenient for you.

  • Keeping survivors busy keeps them off gens. The ideal gameplay is one on hook, one in chase, one going for the unhook/heal, and only one on a gen. This makes the first chase and hook important (because the other 3 have nothing else to do but sit on a gen until you get the down). If you're struggling in this area then use an early game perk to help out, for me i like Corrupt Intervention. Knowing when a chase has gone on for too long is another necessary skill to develop as a killer. Overcommiting to one survivor can easily cost you gens and the game.

As for bully squads, well theyre the opposite side of the coin. They're more concerned with frustrating you than doing anything else. They're not very common at all though, and usually if i see 3+ flashlights I'll slap on Lightborn. That tends to take the wind out of their sails.

  • Alot of us have this same issue unfortunately

If a match is voided from a DC or an abandon, that should be loudly and publicly known to everyone. Like there should be a message on the leaderboard. There's your anti-tunnel right there. The survivors can use DCs as a threat to cut off an opponents progress if the killer is acting out. Same with egerious slugging and abandons. Though I'd much rather have something built into the game than a secret punishment system.

I've been using a variation of the same build on everyone with good results:

Franklin's and Weave for aura read. Lightborn becuase I always use it. You can switch it, but people generally assume someone running Franklin's isn't running Lightborn so I get a ton of hits that way. The fourth is either Thanatophobia or Forced Hesitation. For Dredge, it's usually Thanatophobia, but Forced combined with the aura read from the Weave is also fantatsic, becuase a Franklin's-discarded medkit laying near a recent down shows you a potential savior hiding nearby and Forced makes them too slow to react to you. For add-ons, the recorder usually gets me an early game down, and the microphone let's me get a read on people's general directions by just doing a quick triple teleport to whichever nearby lockers.

They do though, every time they release official stats it says that games with DCs aren't included

Same. I got up at 3am to get that banner and even though ive claimed it, I have nothing in game. Ive sent Support an email but I'm sure theyll just tell me it's Twitch's problem.

  • I'm not fussed by downvotes tbh. They don't mean anything to me. Having said that, more engagement on here is preferable and i hate the thought that some folks might be too scared to contribute because of downvotes. As someone who downvotes on occasion (but upvotes far more!), I can assure you there is no bullying intent behind it. I see it simply as upvote = agree, downvote = disagree. And on the topic of major biases, I will say that most folks I see with alot of downvotes do tend to hold a pretty strong bias to either survivor or killer. I feel most players here play both roles so strongly one-sided takes will never be popular.

I thought an afk killer gets an initial warning message about further action will be taken if it happens again?

I got one when I had already started the match count down and didn't play for some reason.

Anyway warning message appeared on my in-box when I next put dbd on.

Don't know what happens after initial warning message although I assume something is in place or is it a pointless attempt to try and 'scare' you into not doing it again and there's actually no punishment?

It's always Doctors used for this because the bot releases his shocks periodically, so it hits survivors and earns bp etc. Some survivors will also use it to farm, like let themselves get hit and then heal each other for bp. So it may not necessarily appear to the game like the killer is afk.

  • @Abbzy said:

When killer doesnt do anything survivors are angry and frustrated and when he is doing his job too well and even tunnels to be more effiecent they are angry and hate him too, Im kinda begining to get confused here whats the problem, sure it can be annoying if you play for chases but its free escape with easy points in short time so I dont see that huge problem as you claim and tbh Im kinda sad I dont get killer match like this in 1/10 matches because its way better for chalanges like gens or getting out with hatch and etc. than normal game.

The doctors he's referring to are AFK bots. They've been around for a long time. There's no one even playing the killer, it's just a program.

Do DCs not count as kills for the killer personally or just for that survivor? I always thought they did count as deaths. So if you DC right before dying you can dodge a death? That's incentiving DCs. I just don't understand why a loss isn't a loss. It's seems simple to me. If those are the true numbers, they needed to be counted. If you can press a button for free hatch why even bother trying to play in end game?

It'd be good to get clarification from the devs on this, but they've said in the past that games where someone DCs are voided. So I would assume that killing the resulting bot would not be considered an official kill. The game is just a wash basically. This makes sense if you consider how often people used to DC against Nurse, yet her official killrates have never been crazy high. I don't think it incentivises DCs because there's always been downsides, such as DC penalties, plus the survivor also voids and wastes their own game - they lose bp, emblems, no MMR gains, loss of grades, etc. So it's always in someone's best interest to not DC.

This is also likely why abandons apparently aren't counted either, because it's likely just a blanket setting that killing a bot does not affect MMR at all. We also know that MMR gains and losses are also effected by the MMR level of your opponent - you get more gains for killing someone in a higher bracket than you do for killing someone in a lower bracket, for example - and since bots don't have personal MMRs, the system has no means of determining gains or losses.

Ill add that I'm not a developer or have any understanding of this stuff, my posts are purely just based on info the devs have shared in the past.

  • @cogsturning said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4018118#Comment_4018118

But if you abandon during a mori or on the hook, you did, in fact, die, you just left before the animation went through. If those are being counted as non-deaths, than the game is even more unbalanced than we think in favor of killers. The question (that no one is showing up to answer) is whether or not this goes beyond personal stats into official numbers and MMR.

Then i suppose they could count games with one abandon as a kill? I dont agree with DCs counting as kills though. I think that would be detrimental to killers and game balancing.

  • @Cassiopeiae said:

Look at BHVR’s own stats and their statements. They’ve openly said they aim for kill rates to lean in favor of killers, targeting around 60% or higher. That’s not an accident; it’s part of their design philosophy.

Just because some killers are weaker doesn’t mean the role itself is bad. The killer side as a whole is strong, even if individual killers vary in power. And let’s not forget that one of the biggest advantages survivors have isn’t even in the game, it’s outside of it, through Discord and coordinated communication.

On top of that, some maps are simply designed to favor one side or the other. That’s intentional and part of how the game creates variety. So when looking at balance, it’s important to keep all of this in mind instead of judging based on a few weak killers or specific situations.

I honestly hate this idea that some killers are "weak." I play alot of the killers that people consider "weak" but imo they're just more challenging than others and I prefer that. Some of us dont mind a challenge. Alot of the more recent killers don't require alot of effort to succeed, so there's something for everyone. But I'm probably in the minority for that.

  • @cogsturning said:

This seems like an easy enough fix if it's completely screwing up stats and MMR. Abandons and DCs count as deaths/losses. Full stop. But now I feel I can't trust a single person's survivor stats except my own because I don't abandon or DC.

If they're counted as deaths then the official killrate will go up. And we'd be in the same situation as today with people asking about the accuracy, especially since we know kill rates influence balance changes. I think they should fix the personal stats with a different visual for abandons (instead of an escape) so people feel more confident with their stats. That one should be easy enough.

  • This one was a bit heavy handed. Not too fussed about the others

I always thought it was a mimic that failed the assignment.

Also possible! It was the mori that gave me my impression, as there's like a big cut in the body 'suit' that the tendrils come out of. Almost like a zipper lol

  • If a killer is doing that then I'd avoid going in there. If your team mates keep going in despite the killer very clearly playing to slug in the void, then I would just stop picking them up and leave them to it. You can't fix a lack of common sense.

I do think next year the devs should look into fixing this, as people should want to go into the Void seeing as it's the whole point of the event. Anything that keeps them out needs looking into imo.

  • @Munky said:

Very simple explanation for this. While lobby dodging is part of it, You are also seeing more 'new' killers cause veterans are quitting the game en masse. That or they switch to S or A tier killers. Even big name streamers straight up say they wouldn't be playing DBD if they didn't make money of its content.

We can confirm there is a killer shortage by looking at who gets BP bonus in Queue right now. Killers, which only had it for about 1% of the time in the entire existence of BP bonuses. Obviously there is something up there ;)

Since there is a BP bonus, that in turn will also attract survivor mains to play some killer. So you have a much bigger pool of new/bad killers right now.

The bonus is effected by MMR, region, and time of day. So whatever bonus you have could be completely different to someone else. Like OP, I'm in Australia and bonus is always on survivor until late at night when it turns to killer.

  • Yeah the devs said years ago that lobby dodging creates mismatched lobbies because the system starts prioritising waiting time over accuracy. Unfortunate that it's still occurring to this day (it's even worse nowadays imo).

  • I havent seen it yet, but I assumed he was like a creature with tendrils that wears people's skin?

I recall some of that, as well as the leaderboards that show abandon-bots getting super-scores being confirmed to be a false visual bug. The potential that abandons count as neutral escapes is bad considering how often and casually people do it (when they absolutely lost, at that), but it's the inclusion of MMR in this screenshot that has me particularly worried. I now want to know exactly what does what.

I think theyve put themselves in a rough spot with abandons, especially in light of their recent anti-slugging goals. Making abandons count as kills helps legitimise slugging as a win condition (ie. 4 slugged = 4 abandons = 4k), which is why I'm assuming they're apparently treated as neutral.

I'd like clarification from the devs about whether in a 4k, where only the last survivor downed has abandoned, the 3 previous kills aren't disregarded from MMR with the entire match essentially voided. The impact on new players would be rough. The whole situation is quite convoluted. Hopefully most of this is just stuff they're slowly ironing out.

  • @cogsturning said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4016933#Comment_4016933

If it's just personal stats and isn't affecting the true global stats or MMR then its whatever, but it also nullifies our personal stats in regards to accuracy. This would make them worthless for using as examples of anything if abandons count as escapes.

Yes, this was a topic of discussion that happened shortly after the site opened. We know from the devs that hatch is considered null and doesn't affect official escape rates, yet it counts in personal ones. Whether that was intentional or not hasn't been confirmed, but abandons obviously are a whole different story.

  • @cogsturning said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4016928#Comment_4016928

But those count as escapes on stats and neutral on MMR, so your ER goes up but your MMR doesn't. That's all well and good if you found the hatch, but that means anyone who presses yhe abandon gets free hatch, inflated stats, and no MMR loss despite losing the match. If you're a rat who always dies last your MMR coud potentially never go down if you abandon as soon as your downed.

I think they're only counting as escapes, currently, on people's personal stats page. I think hatch does as well. This was something people were pointing out when the site first opened, either overlooked by the devs or they had no other visual representation to use at that stage but will hopefully change in future

  • @cogsturning said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4016854#Comment_4016854

It's really concerning. Killers don't have nearly as many DCs/abandons so their numbers won't be terribly affected, but if the stats award every survivor who abandons a free escape (or simply no death) than the true survivor stats have to be drastically lower than what we're seeing with how frequently those abandons occur. It also means MMR is completely out of whack.

I think abandon = null and void, much like hatch escapes

  • Hopefully they can come back and provide some more clarity on this. We know matches with DCs never counted, but I'm assuming that if you kill 3 survivors and then 1 abandons after getting downed, the 3 sacrifices would still count towards your MMR but the abandon would not?

  • Since Twitch drops are a mutually beneficial business deal between two companies, they'll likely keep them exclusive for x amount of time before they appear in a Store bundle. More than likely there's some sort of contract stipulating just that.

  • It was an eyesore but it definitely made it unique

  • I think, like with the Prime gaming cosmetics, they will probably remain exclusive for awhile before popping up in the Bundles section of the store
