Nothing anyone will say can convince me there arent bot survivors in this mode. Legit survivors who will stop healing or repairing the gen the second a flicker of a terror radius is heard. I also don't understand why no one is on a gen but simultaneously I'm watching team mates die on hook. If you're not on a gen, saving anyone, or in a chase, then what on earth are you doing lol

I've had a shockingly good experience as survivor so far and I usually hate 2v8. Played 12 matches, 8 were escapes, teammates are doing end game saves, looping well, and rats and potatoes have been rare. A lot of killer players are clearly using killers theydon't have a good grasp on, particularly Pyramidhead. I don't feel like it'll last but I'll enjoy is while I can.
Yeah pretty sure Dracula and PHead are free to play for this iteration, so probably alot of folks still trying to learn their powers

Thanks for the encouraging words, but I do believe it has a tangible effect as stated above. Remember that this isn't some random fan forum website but literally THE official forum website. You have any idea how catastrophic it would be if they actually based any game related discussions on what is said here and how people receive it via the voting system? That ######### would be so catastrophic for the game that…. wait a minute the game is always in a catastrophic state what the hell am I saying?
I dont think they have as big an impact as you think. For example, the week the fog vials got nerfed there was alot of upvotes and agreement (from both survivors and killers) on posts asking for them to be kept useful because they were a nice change from medkits and toolboxes, and the (few) posts calling for them to be nerfed into uselessness were being downvoted to the point where some folks were getting upset over it. They still got nerfed into uselessness.

You'd have a ridiculously long queue time as survivor. Killers rely on perks, survivors don't.
If that were the case then survivors would have longer queues in Chaos Shuffle. Because I'm sure I'm not the only one that seems to always get the most useless or contradictory killer perks in that mode, yet i still enjoy it and never saw many complaints about it.
-
I doubt they will spend the time, resources, and bandwidth to address an issue that can simply be mitigated by chasing them out. I still have agency in that situation and I use it.
-
Yes, based on past changes you would be correct. BHVR have a tendency to swing from one extreme to the next. Main buildings were nerfed for survivors on some maps in compensation, and even if pallet density is reverted, those changes will likely stick around.
-
How is Doctor higher than Wesker?
-
Can't be helped. The ability to play killer with a friend puts it in high demand.

I played three survivor games of 2v8 just to get the challenges done and none of them had Dracula or Pyramid Head in them.
Are they just not good.
I played 3 survivor games too and had two Pyramid Heads (which i was happy about, love him) but no Dracula. The other killers were an Oni, two Hillbillys (also yay), and Spirit. The PHeads seemed to perform just fine, both were in bloody cosmetics though so they obviously had some experience with him.
-
Target the bot out, double hook everyone else and let them leave. I don't see too many DCs thankfully
-
They're not for me, I'll stick to Freddy, Pig, and Tiffany
-
Depends on your region, MMR, time of day etc. In general, during the day it's instant survivor and 1-2 min for killer for me, and then that flips once 9pm hits
-
You realize that the PTB exists specifically for people to test new changes. This is so the devs can gather feedback and work out what, if anything, goes through to live. So yes, you will see people streaming and testing the limits of new perks etc. It's not any reason to get upset, it's literally what theyre supposed to be doing.
-
Pretty sure they removed the drop-pick up item loophole months ago
-
This is why we have a PTB
-
Honestly, if there's one thing sweaty players hate, it's going up against fellow sweats lol so probably wouldnt work

Thanks for your good work.
But doesn´t that still prove my point too? Or am I missing something.
If you play vs 3 potatoes and 1 god as an average Killer. And you manage to kill only the God by Hate or Noed or what ever. Could your MMR increase in a loss?
I don't believe so. He said "all the different ratings changes are added together" at the end of the game. So in that particular situation, i believe overall you'd end up with a loss, but just not a significant one. Killing the better player as opposed to the weaker ones lessens the blow, so to speak. That's my interpretation anyway, i could be wrong.
I have a bunch of other screenshots somewhere where he talks about how a singular match doesn't have a significant impact on your overall MMR and that it's based around a certain number of matches instead, so in a working SBMM system (ha) i imagine you wouldnt be often facing 3 potatoes and 1 god looper. That would be the outlier. So even if it meant you did walk away with an increase in MMR, it would probably be cancelled out by the following games where you're matched more appropriately.

Here's the more thorough explanation from Peanits. Notably, you can draw and still increase in MMR

If you lose the game (1k) then you will lose MMR, but your opponents MMR affects how much you lose. So the game would expect you to lose to a survivor with higher MMR and wouldnt punish you as much. This is all based on what Peanits has shared with us over the years. Whether things have changed in that time is anyone's guess and he longer has a role in community liaising so can't update us.
I'm currently trying to find screenshots I've taken of info he shared, this one below was talking specifically about hatch - ie hatch escape nullifies the whole match on BHVRs end but the killer still gains MMR from the other three deaths. Since we know DCs and now abandons are treated the same way (match is nullified on BHVRs end), this is specifically why I say the killer is likely still rewarded for the other kills. But again, an update would be nice in light of confusion around abandons.

this clearly states that DC and abandons are not tracked since your and their MMR is NOT affected.
Yes, but MMR is treated as a 1v1. It's why even if you kill 4 survivors, you won't necessarily receive an equal MMR increase for each because factors like yours and your opponent's MMR is taken into account when determining how much you gain or lose (eg if you kill a survivor with a higher MMR than you, then you gain more MMR than if you kill a survivor of a lower MMR). That was confirmed previously by Peanits. Again, this is why the devs need to clarify the specifics. The quote you've shared says that matches with a DC or abandon don't count in official stats (which i said), but by "theirs and your" MMR do they mean the 1v1 between killer and the DCing/abandoning survivor, or between killer and all survivors.
-
@runningguy said:

if they are not counted then they dont count for MMR, meaning all these last man down abandons where players should lose MMR are actually not losing it. it wouldnt make a difference short term but long term it would throw the MMR out completely. just have to be last survivor remaining to keep the MMR neutral then get the odd escape to push it up little by little. eventually survivors would climb MMR and get tougher matches even though they struggle to escape v low MMR killers.
A game could have a survivor DC, but the killer should still get an MMR increase for killing the other 3 survivors despite the game itself not contributing to the official kill/escape rates that the devs use for balancing purposes. If they did include these games then I imagine the official kill rates would be higher than they actually are, hence why they dont include them. But it doesn't mean your MMR isnt affected.
The survivor who DC'd may void their own MMR increase/decrease in that instance, but that's why there are penalties, so they can't do it all the time. Overall, this is one of those aspects the devs need to provide more clarity on.

I didn´t talk about escape rate or kill rate.
I am talking about your MMR and that it doesn´t go down if you dc or abandon a game. While it does for people which stay in these games and get sacrificed.
My point re kill rates, is your suggestion that survivors MMRs can remain stagnant until it increases. I'm saying deaths still overwhelmingly happen to every survivor. They happen more than leaving via exit gate, and more than having the opportunity to abandon. I'm doubtful that your friend only leaves every trial via exit gate or abandon. Sometimes he's the survivor who "stay in these games and gets sacrificed." 9 or 10 games isn't a big sample size. Also, this isnt me saying the system is perfect. I'm simply saying that 'stagnant until increases' isn't the norm because it suggests survivors overwhelmingly arent dying on hook.
When i play killer, i typically only get an abandon from the last survivor if I down them, though some stick around. If you're someone who slugs then i imagine you'd see it more often.
-
So, here's what always worked for me. When a Pig does this, go to a box and try remove the trap. They will panic and grab you off the box. Refuse to wiggle. They'll either hook you or, if theyre committed to the bit, will pick up and drop you until you're back on your feet to try again. Run straight back to the box and try remove the trap. Rinse and repeat. While this not only puts a wrench in their plan, it ultimately buys your team time to smash the gens. As a Pig enjoyer myself, it's a silly way to play but people love copying what they see on YouTube.

you get atleast 2 free DC then a 5min timeout. playing 20 matches resets this so after 20 matches you can DC 2 more times for free before getting another 5min time out.
escape rate is 40% according to bhvr…is that with voiding the matches that people abandon or are they included as deaths?
i know from my many matches the option to abandon comes up very frequently, last survivor? all downed? downed twice? others DC at the start and im the only actually player on my team besides bot? all of these brings up the abandon option. add the hatch in with it.
example, if im last survivor to go down 5/10 matches, i get the hatch 2/10, first to die 1/10, escape 2/10….if abandons dont count towards MMR then out of 10 matches my MMR would go up as i have escaped twice and only died once.
DCs and abandons aren't counted in the official stats at all
-
@Leon_van_Straken said:
BHVR clearly stated that dc and abandoning games doesn´t affect MMR didn´t they?
Since you can abandon games where you get downed twice you can abandon so many games. Heck you even get the abandon mechanic if you are the last survivor (still healthy and hatch open, happend yesterday in my games)
And yes the rest of the games were slug fests and so on.
He dc´ed 2 times in total, cause he was left on hook and abandoned 7 times. After BHVR logic he shouldn´t lose MMR for these.
Sure, but most games aren't between two sole results - abandon or escape. There's plenty of dying in there too. Especially if, as you say, he's not very good at the game.
-
BHVR have never really revealed the intricacies around MMR but your friend's MMR wouldnt stay the same always as there'd be plenty of games where he dies and abandon isnt an option. Even DC you only get 1 freebie i believe and then the penalty starts to stack, so he can't be doing that too often. The official stats don't include matches with DCs or abandons (and hatch doesn't count as an escape either), and survivors average a 40% escape rate. So plenty of losses of MMR happen.
-
I'm neutral on it. I think the devs have decided to compromise with both sides and this is probably the best they could come up with. It won't affect how i play in the slightest, and i think those who tunnel will continue to do so. The compromise is simply that the tunnelled survivor will be slightly harder to track immediately after unhook, but not impossible. Probably moreso on Lerys and Hawkins.

I would claim that it depends on what killer that are in the game, for some killers like billy, blight nurse, dracula ect.. sure it dosnt matter. But for killers like Pig, Trapper, Ghostface ect. i would say it would.
Pig is one of my mains and I will happily take an additional hook state from a survivor throwing themselves into my arms over 15s bloodlust. What would I need the bloodlust for at that point? I literally play without it right now

Other than killers loose the benifits of not tunneling
15s of blood-lust and extra bp doesn't really matter when you're on your way to a 3v1. You don't even need them at that point.

If dbd has been alive for 9 yers it is not because of casuals, casuals come and go, they pmay for two weeks when a nee license chapter is released and then go back to other games. The people dbd thrives of are whales that buy every new skin and are playing this 4+ hours daily. Casuals will buy chapters regardless and that is a big influx of money, however a player that will spend on chapters+skins+the rift is much more valuable to keep than one who will just spend his money every 3 months.
Also, all other asymetrical games went with this approach, and while their issues were varied, bhvr as incompetent as they can be understood something that those other game stufios could not: a game evolves, you cannot keep it casual when all the content around it is optimizing builds, how to dominate as killer/survivor, tierlists, winstreaks, etc ... Bhvr have been very keen on not going full comp because that would kill the game, but they know one of the big reason it is still alive its because their playerbase takes the game more seriously that what they intended for, and they have adapted to it.
TCM, VHS and Last year as many issues as they had, were boring, because there was not a competitive mindset, you pmayed for a week and there was no skill to refine, it got boring fast, and if there was the devs neutered or changed it because the game had to keep being casual.
But it is because of casuals and new players. They literally keep the game afloat. Imagine the whales and hardcore and regular players are a boat. The casuals and new players are the water. Some of the water drains but it rains (free weekends, events, drawn in by friends, etc etc) and keeps the water at a certain level. Now suddenly drought is kicking in, and water is leaving and not being replaced at a steady level anymore. The boat is scraping the sea bed, and sure, the whales can keep buying skins but their wait times are suddenly longer, theyre playing against the same people because the pool is smaller, MMR is barely working as a result because the system is stretched thin, and less sales of the game and DLCs (since whales can only buy these things once, new players are necessary) mean company cutbacks and less quality products. Whales won't carry a game in that state for long. I'm sure there were whales/dedicated players in other asymm games that have since closed, but they can't carry a game on their own.
You're also assuming whales stick around forever, and don't find other interests or other games along the line. If whales keep the game alive then they need to be replaced too. If the game is in a bad state then that won't happen.
And i acknowledge that analogies aren't my strong point at all, and this probably sounds harsh, but every game has it's fodder. When that's no longer around, the regulars suffer. We can't keep eating each other.

I like the challenge in 12-hooking, and rotating everyone twice before sacrificing. Can't say that for everyone, but it is nice to make the game tougher on yourself, and it is also a healthier playstyle in the end.
Though, I do play Myers a lot, and 8-hooking the survivors, before going for the "tombstone" takedown also works.Tunneling and excessive slugging makes it way too easy, and it is simply not fun.
I also like being nice, and giving the last survivor at least a chance to get out in the end game. I don't need the 4K to win, if that makes sense. The challenge is what i love too. It might be my OCD, but i love that we can see the hook counter now because it's crazy satisfying seeing each survivor with one count next to their names, and again when they're all on second. Not sure if that's just me though lol it seems to give me that dopamine hit

Oh, I see! So it wasn't a matter of reconnecting your account. All of this happened because there are two different newsletters to subscribe to.
That makes the whole situation much less complicated.
A completely different subscription nobody was informed of.
What a very normal thing to do.
What's even the point of making a second one when you guys were already handing out personalized codes on the first one?
The deadbydaylight.com one is specifically for Dead by Daylight advertising. Anyone can sign up for it on the site, even if they don't own the game. A BHVR account encompasses their entire library (so not just Dead by Daylight) and allows you to connect your games and platforms, get cross game rewards, Twitch drops, etc. So it's more personal, hence why they'd be sending freebies, like the charm, to those with BHVR accounts.
If you log into your BHVR account, click the lines in the upper right corner, and go down to Communication Preferences, that's where the boxes need to be checked so you get the emails. I think that's the distinction (for future reference) between the two newsletters.
-
The primary objective is different between survivor and killer, hence both recieve different sources of information around their objective. Another example for survivor is seeing the aura of hooked team mates so you don't have to run around wasting time trying to find them, which would interfere with your primary objective of finding and completing gens. Fwiw i don't find WoO problematic.

We've already done this anti-tunneling song and dance once, and Killer players fought hard not to get those changes implemented because they were terrible. The fact that these changes are just as bad tells me the devs barely learned a thing from that PTB.
I can forgive a developer team making mistakes, running failed experiments, but I draw the line at making the same mistake twice.
The last proposed changes literally punished killers with gen blocking. This new proposition does not punish killers at all. They are not "just as bad"

JCGlitchmaster explains it well why so many of us killer players (I am about 60/40 maybe? I play Killer when I am solo, survivor only with friends.)You might not have to do it again. From maps and pallets to next patch (changes revealed on recent dev stream). Some takes from devs based on their data was strange if not laughable. All the killer "fantasy" in the game turns into even more mechanical "play by the book or be punished" chore.
Those stream changes haven't happened, and may not even happen. They haven't even hit PTB yet.

Myers isn't surprising as he just got a pretty big rework. Lots of people wanna try him out

What recent changes are you specifically referring to? If the pallet density, they've set up a feedback sub-forum you can contribute to
-
I mean, if we are talking fairness for both roles then this all seems reasonable.
-
I always focus on hooks first and foremost. The hook counter has been such a good QOL update for killers, makes it so much easier not having to keep track.
-
Frustrating part for me has been the haunts, i swear I'm cursed. I'll hit a survivor in front of me dead on and they'll just scream. I even let the last survivor in one of my games open the exit gate, since she'd be standing stationary and a guaranteed hit/injury, and she still just screamed 🤣 i was so embarrassed

All that change of ranks and MMR was done because people were tired of waiting 15 minutes in a lobby for a single match. But what could we or bhvr do then? We relied on there waiting to have enough players of our level to fill the lobby. Was waiting boring? Yes, but at least that's how the game DID work. Most matches ended in draws because the game assigned you to players of your level. We all started at 20, EVERYONE, and if you wanted to get to level 1, you had to work hard and sweat, and if you wanted to stay causal, you could do so by having interesting and fun matches. Of course, you were always going to find someone who wanted to get to rank 1 at all costs, but it was a matter of luck, and not all matches were stressful and boring. Tunneling and camping were a problem, but not at the level they are today. Many killers needed an adjustment and many perks too, that's undeniable... but changing the ranks in a game that doesn't even have a balanced competitive mode was a mistake.
Usually it was kind of…
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/BVQET1QCV0UG/q5uxrsdxebk71.jpg
Many of us said that year (I think it was 2021) that the change in ranks was going to ruin the game because it would make people even more competitive and the casual mode would end up being affected , and it seems we weren't wrong.
This used to be a natural way to separate the casuals from the sweaty ones, but now everyone wants to be sweaty, every match is a tournament full of people wanting to be number 1.
I remember purple rank was the sweet spot for me. I'd purposely never go into red rank. Purple was just the perfect mix of challenging yet not overbearing.
