  • Similar to others who’ve already commented, I see short survivor queues earlier in the day and super long survivor queues at night. I’m in eastern US time zone. There are a lot more survivor players at night, many of them SWF. It’s very obvious that a lot of people who play killer just got too frustrated playing against SWF at night. The game feels fairly balanced to me with solo or two-man SWF, but against a full squad of good survivors on comms the killer stands very little chance. It’s frustrating waiting 5-10 minutes for a game in the evening as survivor, but would rather do that than play killer and get bullied by high MMR SWF squads.

I've been playing DbD before Legion came out, and each second of it was fun, but it just seems like I'm always "cheating". If i down a bodyblocking survivor? I'm toxic, If I down a teabagging survivor at the gate and hook them? I'm toxic. If i kill all 4 survivors? I get called every offensive name in the book. I don't know what to do anymore. Is it because I main killers? Am I just really unlucky? Am I in the wrong for trying to win as killer? What am I doing wrong?

At this point, I just want to uninstall the game and never look back.

Just turn off end game chat. Problem solved

  • I love it and run it on every build. It’s a great perk for causal players like me who don’t have time to play often enough to memorize maps and tile placement combinations. Like OP said, helps me chain tiles together to prolong chases (especially with Lithe, while I also love to run).

I wouldn’t call it OP. It uses up a perk slot and experienced players don’t really use it much

Sometimes when I play killer I get chased by a survivor with a flashlight. Following me to flashlight save their fellow survivors or trying to distract me at any chance.

I already tried to kill em, but the thing is their much better than me at looping.

The thing is there is not always a wall to look at instead.

So my question is, has anyone who has dealt with them tips for me?

    Bubba + Facecamp 😂

The devs already see the ginormous killrates and how little solo survivors win but continue to release anti-loop killers, more slowdown perks, and never looking into stacking slowdown perks and refusing to see it as a problem.

I actually saw a Huntress using Ruin, Corrupt Intervention, and POP. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the tally screen. She easily won with 4 gens remaining and that is very bad. There's been a lot of un-noticed light.

@Sluzzy - I know you get a lot of crap from people about your complaints about killers, but I am genuinely curious if you have actually played killer before. If so, do stomp survivors or do you find it difficult/stressful to play killer? I know there are some really good killers out there, but a vast majority of those I’ve played against or the ones who comment on the forums seem to not think it’s as easy as you do. I’m just honestly wondering if you play killer and how easy or difficult you have found it. I play both sides and I find killer incredibly frustrating against SWF and manageable against good solos if you’re playing sweaty. Rarely do I have matches that are super easy where I am steamrolling survivors

So i've been playing DBD on and off for roughly 3 years. I've seen alot of changes take place since that time, Some good and seemingly enough more bad. Now i'm not up-to-date on every change that has been made but i feel after seeing what has been done and the constant arguing within this forum about these changes whether they were necessary or not for the health and fun of the game, i personally feel the only way to get the devs to actually do something for the greater good or fail is to simply play the game with everything that is META. (Killer main speaking here)

Tunnel, Camp, Run NOED. Do whatever is necessary to force the devs to take a look at these things and see what changes they make. The QoL of survivor is what keeps this game afloat but, If killers abandon ship and either quit or move to survivor the devs have no choice but to make drastic changes to draw atleast some of it's player base back if they already haven't alienated them to the point of making it the last straw or the game will be finished in no time.

Make the game un-fun for survivor, understand this game is not designed with YOU the killer in mind other than to be a punching bag. The nerfs for killer are harsh and the buffs are laughable, the real problems that need addressed never are.

    Happy Hunting.

I understand the frustrations because I play killer about half the time and I know how imbalanced the game is, especially against SWF at higher ranks. But I don’t think a promoting attitude of “just ruin their fun” is helpful. Just play the game the way you want to play (tunnel, camp, slug - all those are necessary to get kills at higher ranks) and don’t worry about what survivors say/think about it. The ones who complain have never played killer before

  • I’ve definitely seen real camping and tunneling, but I agree that many (not all) of the complaints about camping and tunneling are just the killer trying to take advantage of situations presented to them and playing efficiently. When I play killer, when I leave the hook I always look back while I’m walking away. If I see someone rushing in the the save, in almost every case I am going to go back and hit someone. This isn’t “camping”, it’s playing smart, but it will be complained about as “camping”. If I go after the survivor who was just unhooked survivor, it will only be because they were closer to me or farther away from a safe loop and easier to hit. And I always have to worry about DS, which based on my experience gets used at least 50% of the time

  • I’ve found the most enjoyable matches have been the ones with good survivors at a higher MMR but solo or two-man SWF. I enjoy having good chases 1 vs 1. This tells me that SWF is the biggest factor destroying killer fun, not MMR. I wouldn’t advocate for eliminating SWF (hey, I enjoy playing with my friends too) but at a certain MMR level it’s clear that good survivors + comms is busted. I fully understand this is not a new or fresh take 😉

then why dont we have an in game voice comms system? Prove to the community that what youre saying is 100% honest and NOT just an excuse to ignore the issue. Or, could you possibly address the second part of his point? being that the game is based around information blackout on the survivors end? if thats not the case, how do you explain various information perks being in the game at all? Every time I see a response from mods and devs about this, its always ignoring any valid arguments being made and just a simple "nah its not cheating. go use our discord" which really comes across as ignoring the communitys concerns.

I don’t think the devs are ever going to say anything regarding killers’ concerns about the imbalance that comms create at high levels in this game. It will continue to be just the canned “comms are fine” replies. I suspect they understand that it’s a problem for killers at high levels, but if they publicly say they’re going to do something about it, it will mean a massive amount of work and changes that will potentially turn off their cash cow which is the SWF player base. It would be a risky move, so their approach now is to just ignore, which will work fine as long as there are enough killers still playing the game.

I don’t have any problem with comms (the game wouldn’t be nearly as fun playing SWF without them), but there has to be some kind of adjustment made at higher levels to help correct the massive imbalance that killers face.

Me, watching Otz get his ass kicked on a daily basis after literally PLAYING THE GAME AS A JOB for years.

Lol - I love it when people say “killer is so easy - why can’t you 4K like professional streamers?”

    😂

  • The devs could just put him back to the way he was before his nerf and he’d be totally fine. I used to love playing him until he got destroyed. The only thing that needed nerfing was his instasaw. Everything else was fine

  • @egg_ said:

Everyone in this forum has high mmr but they keep losing, I'm bad at maths but things don't add up

No - high MMR killer are playing less or quitting, which means higher MMR survivors are getting paired with lower MMR killers. This is the problem

  • @BenZ0 said:

Idk if I am having just a REALLY unlucky streak but I got my 19th game in a row with a full meta sweat team. They are not necesarelly swf but they are all VERY experienced and play only to do gens and get the hell out of the game.

I played various different killers, even a lvl 20 doc and still got matched with absolut sweaty ppl.

Again I could be just very very unlucky but still this is just not how I want to play dbd. Sweating for my life in every single game like my life is at stake.

I just want to play chilled to farm BP and also do challanges, but I cant or atleast it takes way longer cuz my game last for like 5-7min. Yes I do sometimes get some kills, even sometimes a 4k.

But guess what how many hooks? 1-4 hooks each game, they all die on their first hook at the endgame or I slug all 4 to death. This is NOT FUN AT ALL.

I took my breakes, played even for weeks something different and havent touched dbd in weeks and STILL I get the exact same matches every time.

Every single game on every single Killer I face from good suvivors (which I face less and less over time) to very sweaty players. I have to play every time pin point perfect without doing any mistakes, if I even miss 1 single hit the survivor will take this to advantage and build alot of distance immidiatly which extends the chase by atleast 20sec longer which steam rolls so high that I may lose this game because of this single mistake.

I have to play always at the highest concentration and make use of this 1-2 hooks I get with everything I got otherwise the game is over.

It feels like my MMR is in heaven and the game treats me like jesus christ himself of the Killers therefore I get matched with the absolut best or atleast best possible survivors.

This is not fun at all, I eat rather ######### nails or wax both legs and arms rather playing Killer.

*Edit: Again this is going on since MONTHS, since Resident evil chapter to be exact.

Welcome to killer in 2021! You’ll probably have a few killers who play 50 hours a week come on here and tell you that you’re full of it, but anyone who plays casually like me know that most matches are just not competitive unless you’re playing top-tier killers with best add-ons and playing as sweaty as possible (camp/tunnel/slug all the way). This game has been purposely balanced to keep SWF happy and having their fun which means a lot of time playing killer is just going to suck.

  • Couldn’t end soon enough for killers. Giving survivors even more 2nd chances than they already have with the snowmen without giving killers some kind of buff as well was an insane decision by the devs. Game is already imbalanced enough. I definitely appreciate the attempt to add something different to the game, but it’s clear there was little regard for its impact on game balance

    For me:

    • If someone has been mannered, I'll usually give them gate. Especially if they've been fun/played well and was let down by their team.
    • If the other side has a DC and sticks the game out, I'll almost always give at least one person gate, sometimes two.

On the other hand, if even one player is BM, it's die time.

I’ll give hatch or gate if I stomped their team or if the last survivor played really well and wasn’t toxic.

If one of their teammates DCs I will usually let all of them out unless they are being toxic or intentionally not helping their teammates.

  • Facecamping Bubba is getting his kill and taking his -1 pip for all those frustrated M1 killers out there going up against genrushing SWFs on bad maps with boons all over the place.

    We salute you, Facecamping Bubba

  • @FellowKillerMain said:

Face camping isn't fun. But, you know what feels a lot like face camping? Playing killer in the game's current state. Imagine being face camped every match... that's what killer feels like in almost every trial.

Honestly, I think the problem is that there are survivors that don't actually like PvP games, because they don't like to lose. So, they complain until they get what they want, and the devs listen, because survivors spend more money on the game.

This is what a community looks like when the developers are gaming their own system to make a buck.

I mean, if you go back to just a year ago, facecamping happened, but it wasn't common. Now it's common. Before Ruin was nerfed, killers often played by the survivor rule book. I used to avoid tunneling and slugging entirely, never used NOED and never face camped. Now, the imbalances can't be overcome without playing dirty. Whether people want to admit it or not, survivors are playing dirty because they have the devs structuring the game in their favor, and killers are just doing what's in their power to make their voices heard.

Totally agree with this. I play both sides about 50/50 and killer is as miserable as it’s been since I started playing the game (I didn’t play at the very beginning when I hear it was really bad). Pretty much any M1 killer now is useless against the CoH meta. And then the devs thought it would be a good idea to give survivors even more free health states with the snowmen. When I play survivor, I expect to be camped and tunneled because of the awful state of killer right now. I don’t blame them at all

  • @Phasmamain said:

Probably because he is amazing against solos due to the coordination required to solve the box effectively

Yes, exactly. He is super unfun to play against as solo because everybody is either going for the box and not doing gens or nobody is going for the box and it’s permanent chain hunt. Either way it’s GG EZ for Pinhead

  • @tesla said:

It seems to be a general consensus beetween killer players that CoH is difficult to deal with. But what about its sibling, Shadow Step? Is it hard for you to handle it? Does it encourage a camping strategy?

No, haven’t had any problems with this one. The only boon that needs nerfing is the broken AF CoH

  • @jarjargist21 said:

I went up against a 4 men swf who picked the Deadman saloon. Who all had 4 flashlights. And try to do that locker trick in the main building. Luckily I used lightborn to play. If I didn't then I would've got annoyed and stop playing that game.

Endgame they started cussing me out because I used lightborn and got the 4 k. Look I'm going to say if locker blinds didn't exist I wouldn't use lightborn. I play to have fun not to get bullied to a point where I don't enjoy the game.

Killer mains you shouldn't feel ashamed to use lightborn, the players your facing aren't you. So don't listen to them. (Most of them don't play killer).

They’re just salty because they didn’t get to have their fun bullying you. Well done!

  • @Veinslay said:

This game was at its best right before MMR came in. Since then we've had MMR, boons, and dead hard validation. Every single lobby is 4 DHs, at least one CoH, 3+ Iron Wills, and then all 2nd chance perks. Couple in the broken map design and It's obnoxious. No excitement towards playing killer at all IMO with all that

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Game was in a pretty good place before MMR and other things that made playing killer miserable (boons, hit validation, etc), so I think that’s why a lot of people are frustrated with the game now (especially in the killer side). Devs have an opportunity now to show that they’re actually listening to the community, so we’ll see what happens with the next patch.

  • For all its faults, it’s still a fun game to player, especially with friends. There’s no other game in the genre that comes close to being as good as this one. Yeah, it sucks getting matched up against semi-pro players that curb stomp me, which does seems to happen a lot more often with MMR now, but the matches against similarly-skilled players are usually very fun

  • @JoByDaylight said:

The community asked for a better matchmaking system. A complicated skill based matchmaking system they used 1,5 years to develop could’ve been ok. At least we had hope. But, the devs being the devs it seems they actually spent 1,5 hours of thinking through it before launching it…

It is definitely not what I was hoping for. I’ve been one of many optimists, but not anymore.

I feel the same way. For the amount of time it took to develop this MMR system, to come up with a product that just scores you based on escapes or kills is pretty disappointing. They could have literally just used the pip system instead and it would have given a better result

  • @Myla said:

Trying to figure out the problem with Solo Q and so I have been recording my 19 games and it's been pretty good results so far. I honestly don't see the problem with Solo Q and it's manageable even if you're not a SWF unless you're one of those unfortunate survivor that dies and everyone else escapes. There's also some unfortunate matches where there's a clear link but still the survival rate from the survivor team is pretty high regardless. So what's the problem? Sure there are instances where the rest of your team could have been better but I don't think most matches aren't damning.

No, but apparently BHVR considers it a loss even if you did a ton of stuff to help your teammates escape 🙄

  • @steamed_hamzzz said:

When are the devs going to “fix” flashlight saves even though on the killers screen we looked away in time but still got blinded anyway?

Oh, and make sure to give survivors false information by telling them they’ve gotten the blind at the top of their screen and show the blind VFX just like killers have to deal with with Dead Hard validation misinforming them that they’ve got the hit, with survivor screams and blood spatters. It’s only fair.

I play killer quite a bit and rather than seeing a lot of flashlight saves that seemed suspect, I have actually seen the opposite issue. There have been a lot of times when I’ve been blinded picking up a survivor and I didn’t get stunned. At least from what I’ve seen, survivors have been getting screwed on this more than killers.

now as for hit/dead hard validation, that’s a different story…

  • @BabyCameron10 said:

If it doesn’t, we can expect a change in 3-4 years, if the Devs are generous :D

My prediction is it will get a very slight nerf (something like a slightly smaller radius) so the devs can claim that they nerfed it while still leaving it broken AF

  • @Canas said:

I've seen all kinds of developers and the way they deal with their community from playing many different online games in the past but BHVR really takes the cake when it comes to ignoring its own playerbase. I don't even see them come to the forums anymore, it's just the mods who seem to perform damage control whenever threads get out of control but that's it.

It's extremely obvious that the game is in an abyssmal state right now (with boon totems/CoH being the worst offender) and yet we didn't get a single change to address this issue when The Artist came out. You'd expect at least SOMETHING after 3 months.

It's just regular business as always, ignoring killers and cashing in on gullible folks who buy this game on a whim just to drop it later anyway since the new player experience is absolutely horrendous. I've seen so many killers recently (on the forums and on YouTube) who picked up the game after being begged to try it just to be massively disappointed. MMR is flatout not working, another great issue which has persisted how long now since its introduction? Six months?

For those who decide to endure the painful learning curve this game has they still arrive at the same conclusion they had at the very beginning: this game is neither fun nor balanced. If you try to catch any of the devs on Twitch they will lock themselves behind chat settings which require your account to be verified just to make any contact with them even harder. And the occasional community streams with their Q&A segments feature cherrypicking at its worst when it comes to answering actual questions relevant to the health of the game.

Just watch as the devs will ignore this thread, too. Their twitter only exists to post memes anyway, not even once have they responded to REAL questions from the community. The regular art retweets are nice and all but they do NOT solve the issues this game has.

I honestly think they do read the forums and consider feedback, but what ultimately drives all decisions is the financial factor. It’s a business and they have to worry about the bottom line. They’re going to design the game in a way that keeps the most amount of money coming in. I believe (but have no way to prove) that most of the money comes from SWF players, so keeping them happy is always going to be top priority. Unfortunately this means that killer is going to remain incredibly frustrating to play

  • @Sunbreaker7 said:

Thanks to the Snow event, I can't play Wraith because Survivors are abusing Snowmen by extending chases to ridiculous proportions thanks to being able to hide inside a Snowman and take a free hit without being injured and get distance without consequences.

This event is supposed to be fun, but it is only fun for Survivors, that much is clear. Nothing about the Snowmen favors Killers in any shape or form nor makes it even fair for them to play against. It's always Survivors, always has been and always will be. I am not asking for BHVR to make something for Killers to abuse, I am simply asking what is fair, make the Snowmen balanced, or remove them completely, simple.

It was a fun idea and I appreciate their effort to put an new element in the game, but the devs obviously didn’t think much about the impact on killers (or they did and decided they didn’t care if it made the game more difficult for killers).

  • @Percival_nxs said:

Why do I get the impression that the developers balance the game based on the enjoyment of the survivors? They have buffed all the survivors' meta perks but they don't think twice about nerfing those of the killers.

I have the impression that the survivors are "the favorite son of the developers" who pamper and treat with gloves, while the killer looks like the unwanted son.

I obviously can’t read their minds, but I feel like this is simply a business decision. BHVR has plenty of data to see what kinds of players spend the most money on the game. My guess is that it’s people who typically play SWF. It would be bad for business if they make the game more difficult/less fun for this demographic. I think it’s as simple as that. Unfortunately in this game you can’t make changes that are going to make everyone happy (other than reducing the BP grind), so the lesser evil from the revenue generation perspective is to make the game more fun for SWF which means less fun for killers.

No I wouldn’t worry about that happening 😂

  • @GannTM said:

I hardly ever play DBD during the day. At night, it’s usually instant as killer and around 5-7 minutes as survivor.

    Same here. Eastern US

  • I thought for sure this was going to be a Sluzzy post

  • I still play killer but no nearly as much as I used to. Boons, MMR, unnecessary killer nerfs, awful maps (Haddonfield, RPD, etc). I wouldn’t count on any quality of life improvements coming for killers anytime soon or ever. BHVR knows that most of their revenue comes from dedicated survivor players, many who play the game with friends. Any buffs to killers will reduce the fun of SWF abusing killers and cause them to play less, meaning less money for BHVR. Buffing killers also turns away new players. It has always been a choice about which group they are OK with being the least satisfied with the game and that has always been the killer side

  • I don’t know if maybe I am a higher MMR on survivor than others who are complaining about solo que, but I was playing solo que last night and it was actually pretty fun. I went in with very low expectations. I think I played 5 total matches and two were not great but the other three were a ton of fun. Teammates were messing with the killer, body blocking, flash light saving, picking up chases to protect teammates, etc. I escaped 4 out of the 5 matches. Maybe just good luck on a small sample size? I just don’t think it’s as consistently miserable as many people claim. I could see if you’re low MMR or new to the game that you would have a lot of matches where your teammates are just hiding in the corner self-caring all the time. This is yet another reason why the MMR system based solely on escapes is trash. It’s tough to escape those kind of matches to rank up. The old pip system which ranked you up based on more elements of the match was much better for getting good survivors up to higher ranks where solo que doesn’t suck as much

  • @Marigoria said:

So, I see a lot of threads saying survivor queue times are getting worse and that people can't get into a match because it's too slow, but my experience is different.

My survivor queue times have always been instant during the day, and take around 3 to 5 minutes at night.

My killer queue times take around 3 to 5 minutes during the day, and are instant at night.

I'm in the EU and I have crossplay off. Turning crossplay off didn't affect the times either, since you'd think it would take longer to find matches when there's less players.

For me it’s similar. Short survivor queues during the day when there are a lot more solo players who prefer to play killer. Evenings are when the SWF squads show up and nobody wants to play killer, so during those hours the killer queues are instant and survivor queues take a long time

  • It’s super frustrating and I think most would like to see changes to improve the grind, but unfortunately it’s just not going to happen. The devs have seen the feedback and frustrations that people post here regularly but have chosen to ignore it. It’s not like it would not take much time or effort to remove perk tiers, eliminate useless items/offerings, or reduce the size of blood webs. It’s an intentional decision the devs have made to increase the amount of time people spend playing the game

  • I’m sorry, if you claim that Leatherface has “no counter play”, I can’t take your opinion seriously. It is widely known that he is one of the easiest killers in the game to loop, and he really struggles with windows. I play killer as Leatherface quite and bit and survivors who know how to loop usually destroy me

  • Survivors have gotten the easy and fun games they’ve been asking for with broken boon perks, broken map design, unnecessary killer nerfs, etc. Now they are also getting the consequences of what happens when you make one side miserable and stressful to play. I play both sides about evenly, and killer is zero fun once you get up to a certain MMR level. Survivor queues aren’t too bad during the day because there are more solo queue players and killer isn’t as bad to play. At night when it’s all SWF teams, nobody wants to play killer.

  • @The_BiggCheeze said:

I mean JEEESUUS the amount of people who camp with him are through the roof. How does no one at BHVR see this as a problem?

A killer that can instadown all 4 survivors and even counter Borrowed Time, what the hell were BHVR smoking because there's no way it's legal.

No one wants to wait for a lobby only to be hooked the entire game because the killer is too new to know any better or is complete utter garbage and the only way the can get a kill is camping, and 9 times out of 10 it's this ONE killer.

I have done 11 matches of survivor today, and I have been camped or seen someone camped 4 times out of those 11. Those 4 matches ALL had a leatherface that did nothing but sit at the hook, smacking the survivor like they're proud of it. The mind set of "I put the circle in the circle hole" and they're super proud of themselves for doing the bare minimum making the rest of the match boring for the survivors that can't do anything to save and are forced to do gens, and boring for the survivor on hook because they don't get to play anymore of that match.

Camping should NOT be as heavily incentivized as it is, especially through Leatherfaces current existence.

Don’t get downed first and it’s GG EZ for you and two of your teammates. If you find yourself getting downed first in every single game, then maybe try being a little stealthier to start the match

  • @fr0sty1223 said:

With the changes to hatch and keys why is the hatch and left behind still in the game? They are completely pointless because every single killer slugs so you can never get hatch anyway. I understand hatch and keys needed to be changed but this was not the way to do it. BHVR should either making slugging the last to people not a worthwhile thing to do or revert the changes and try something else.

    “Every single killer slugs”? Ok…

  • No, they are not down anymore (at least for me) and this is yet another example of terrible communication from BHVR. In their pinned message on the board, they say they will let everyone know when the game is working again, but they didn’t. It’s been working for a while and I guess they forgot to tell everyone

Yesterday Otzdarva made a stream when he tried to prove this point.

So he took every killer, he used really good perks and god tier addons and played.

He obliterated every lobby (most of the time, it was with 4 gens left). Of course sometimes survivors were'nt that strong, but still they at least played DS/DH.

As a killer main (95%/5% killer/survivor). I do not know what to think about ? Am I delusional to think that survivors have advantages over the killer ? But my POV is biaised by the fact I only played killer since I started plyaing (around 200h)

I would like to know what do you think about this ? Does it prove that the game is not survivor sided ? What is your POV on that ? Please also let know other people which role you main !

Sorry, this is a terrible conclusion to draw. 99.9% of killers do not have the skill or time in the game that Otz does

  • Killers don’t have a problem with people playing with friends. I play both sides and I play with friends too. The problem is how unbalanced the game becomes when you have 4 good survivors on comms and loaded up with 2nd chance perks.

i agree. He’s not fun to play anymore. I used to play Billy quite a lot and enjoyed him, but stopped after he got nerfed. The only time I play him now is if I need him for a daily. The change that made me the most upset was that they pretty much all his add-ons useless. He also just feels very awkward to use. Oh yeah, and his stupid scream that is super annoying and unnecessary.

Can you notice this or its just me? It is quite unusual to me because if there is a new killer it is usually short que as survivor because of everyone want to try out the new killer.

Because BHVR has make this game unfun for anyone except SWF

So, as I mentioned in another thread recently - the #1 thing getting me down about this game at the moment, more than the balance issues, more than my MMR gripes, more than frigging Dead Hard and CoH combined - it's just how absolutely meanspirited survivor players tend to be.

Yes, I know, killers can be toxic too. But nowhere near as much as survivors and nowhere near as nastily. Generally when a killer gets salty its because they lost. I don't think I've ever seen a gloating killer.

You'll play as fair as possible despite it being a rough matchup, or at times even let people farm, only to get teabagged from the exit gates or flicky flicky'd until your photosensitivity issues send you to bed with a splitting headache and laughed at in postgame. Or the final two just play hide and seek until you AFK because they let you get a 3gen.

It's one thing to lose. Everyone loses. But when you have to eat the gloating of the other team being gigantic prolapsed anuses at you on top of it - yeah, that gets under your skin. I don't care how 'tough' you are, or how much of a brave face you put up...it wears on you after a while.

It actually makes this game a bit of a tough sell to my wife and the folks I play other games with - because the 'how is the community?' question tends to come up and I'm not going to lie to them. It...sucks.

    Suggestions

Back in the day, League of Legends had a similar reputation, and it was strangling growth. So Riot stuck a Tribunal system in and it was a massive success. Something like 80% of toxic players reformed after their first warning, and more than half of the remainder reformed after their first short ban.

Now as much as I'd like a LoL style Tribunal system to find these people a new game to play, that's probably too much overhead.

    So...it got me thinking.

What if those Thumbs Up things in postgame actually did something?

Say, after a game, you could choose to vote an opponent from the other side up and give them BP. It doesn't have to be much - maybe 10,000 or so. This would encourage people to not be jerks, because they'd be losing out on BP.

Hell, if I was in charge I'd look at punishing survivors for BMing but...yeah. That's likely just because I'm annoyed. And have a headache from the strobing.

    TL/DR:

Is there a way to persuade people to manner up in DbD, be it via punitive actions or a reward system?

No. You can’t make terrible human beings magically become not-terrible human beings

IMHO: This is the biggest problem with playing Killer at most levels of DBD - if you don't 3 or 4K, the game feels like you lost.

Take Survivor, you can still objectively have a fun, rewarding experience even if the killer 3Ks. Hell, sometimes even dying to insure the killer only 3Ks is still a fun, rewarding experience.

Imagine how bad this game would feel like as a Survivor, if even if you escaped, you felt like it was a loss unless everyone also escaped?

Yet, playing killer, failing to kill 2... and watching the survivors teabag you in the gate until you eventually escort them on their way feels like a loss.

Whether this is a community created perception image or something the game somehow cultivates, I think everything would get better if they found a way to fix this... because right now the Devs balance the game around 2 kills, 2 escape. Because of that, they're always going to seem to be against killers... because the very nature of their game design is to balance the killer around having a game that's perceived (by the community) to be a loss.

The game needs to feel better for a killer who only gets 2 kills... if this is how the Devs want to balance it.

I play both sides and I would say “it depends”. If I can tell the survivors aren’t great, then yeah I’ll be disappointed if I don’t 3K or 4K. 3K is usually totally fine for me because I don’t can’t that much about increasing my MMR. The only time I will slug for the 4K is if I haven’t hooked the last survivor yet (need this BBQ stacks) or if the team were being toxic.

If I can tell the survivors are very skilled, I will consider 2K a “win”, especially if I’m able to get the 2K without tunneling and camping

This does fix the problem killers have though. You get rid of these things then killers can be buffed massively to actually be powerful again without having to abuse unfair strats

do you play killer, like at all? For your “no tunneling” idea to work, killer needs to rotate through each survivor equally or waste whatever X amount of time you arbitrarily determine to not be tunneling before downing that survivor again. With current gens speeds, this is mathematically impossible. Are you OK buffing killers enough to where they can all reliably find and down a survivor every 30 seconds? Because that’s basically what it would take
