2-3 gens popping after the first chase or 2 means nothing

Sure its better that they have more gens that they need to still do after youve got some early pressure going on but 9/10 games where 2-3 gens pop after the first or so chase it means literally nothing just like some killers have early pressure the survivors also have early pressure especially on a big map or when they have op spawns. I never understood the outrage at 2-3 gens popping early because that always happens unless you have corrupt and deadlock or something similar the thing is the game stalemates hard in the 3-0 gens range especially with gen slowdown/ regression perks AND on top of that usually if survivors insta pop 3 gens they literally hard 4 or 3 gen themselves and literally throw the game.

  • Most of the issue comes from the fact that survivors can reliably do 2/5-3/5 of their objective in the time it takes you to do 1/12th. The two don't progress linearly so almost every match is thrown very quickly into a tense setting of "how can I get a down while not getting too far away from the remaining 4 gens." Quite often just the spread of gens means you know the outcome of the match after your first or second chase because they just did the bare minimum of not 3-genning themselves.

  • Circle of Healing means you do not need to worry about 3 genning yourself so survivors can just slam whatever gen they see ASAP with zero thought which is basically how easy survivor is, brainless

the thing is killer is supposed to ramp up in endgame while survivors are supposed to have early game pressure for example whenever you kill 1 person it makes it infinitely easier to win that game thats why going for every survivor on death hook before you kill one is not the optimal strategy just like if survivors dont do the gens fast they will probably lose if the killer is at all competent

  • This post really isn't any different than your other. I mean I could just copy and paste my response from that one and put it here with minor adjustments.

Was it really necessary to make two posts?

  • If everyone is alive by the time 3 gens are done, the Survivors need to screw up massively for the Killer to squeak out with a 2K, much less a 4K.

I think it has a specific name, but I can't remember it atm.

  • I think this is a problem in game design:

Killer can 2K either 2 hooks or 10 hooks. Which is super easy to do so, if you camp/tunnel with Noed of course.

Survivors have 2E in average, means on survivor side, 5 Gens should be done every single match.

Now if you bring the conditions above, you can see Survivors "have much harder time" to achieve.

The objectives on both side have to be changed. Where a long chase,no tunnelcamp can benefits Killer more

  • 3 gens popping after the first chase is demoralizing for the killer especially if it's an M1 killer. If 3 gens pop quickly you know you're likely against a smart swf that's gonna have BT, DS ect for endgame. Also 3 gen is overrated especially if all 4 survivors are still alive.

but thats just simply untrue just cause gens pop does not even in the slightest mean its a good swf it mean they spawned spread out and insta hopped on gens

bring corrupt on every killer then and guaranteed only slowdown u will need (if you know how to play the killer/get corrupt value). there's your early pressure. streamers like otz, umbra, cope, all use none to limited slowdowns and get 4ks idk how you are different

Ah, but you see, if one of the best general killers can consistently win if he brings the optimal perk and add-on combos, everything is fine!

... I mean even if you steadily translate that down through MMR, it basically means "If you haven't gotten the right add-ons recently, you're just there to lose and farm BP".

im not complaining about me losing?? i dont use slowdown 9/10 times and 4k just fine im talking about how people complain about 2 or 3 early gens playing and i how i feel thats not a valid complaint

  • You're basically starting the game with 2 gens left instead of 5. How can anything be a good enough trade-off for that?

everyone gets their ass kicked sometimes otz is not above that there are people that play just as much if not more then otz?

  • 2 gens popping isnt a major problem. You can come back from 2 gens without gen regression. Hopefully those 2 gens were not also part of a 3 gen because that's your ticket to success. So if you spawned on the opposite side of a 3 gen your chances are astronomically lower for getting a 3-4k.

The sweat of the sweats will instead spread out evenly across the map. Meaning 3 gens will pop in the scenario where you either found a survivor and hooked them, or are currently chasing them. This happens every single game at high MMR. First chase -> 2 gens -> down player, maybe 3rd gen pops here -> hook the player, 3rd gen pops here at the absolute latest.

If you're in a scenario where only 2 gens pop and maybe you've injured several people or hooked them then they were not what I would call high MMR players. Even watching Otzdarva streams I can see that. I can venture a guess as to how hes managed to stay away from the higher MMR sweat games but it's not pretty.

So, worst case scenario = 3 gens pop, what's next? Without gen regression I only see one viable option... a 3 gen scenario which you may or may not have. A survivor may already be coming to unhook the first player, and in fact most cases they are already nearby (because they were on one of the 2 gens that popped early)

    What do you do?

This is all under the premise that each player has DH, BT and DS

its interesting, that his matches more or less seem to be against survivor.

    so i guess sbmm works…

or…a little bit of smashing mmr off stream?

otz is average joe, nothing special

  • "getting facecamped in 8 games out of 10, means nothing"

  • Is me deleting someone with tombstone piece Myers after 2-3 gens pop fine as well?

  • Well it's not nothing but i do agree that it isn't as big of a deal as a lot of people think it is.

DbD is a game of scales in essence

At the start of the game all weights are on the survivor side, every gen that gets done and reduces the patrol route of the killer, every pallet broken, every injure, every hook the scales start slowly tipping towards the killer and once they reach a certain point it's really hard for the survivors to pull it back. It's all about momentum. So while i don't think it's nothing if 2-3 gens pop on first chase. There is truth that the first gens are a lot easier to do and thus don't matter as much as the later ones.

Saying that if survivors did 2/5 of their objectives vs the killers 1/12 if they lost 2 gens by their first hook is a bit misleading as the killer objectives become easier the longer the games go on and vica versa for survivors.

  • Only killer where it should be normal is Oni....

If you are not some snowball killer like Oni / Plague, then 3 gens popping before first hook is just terrible.

Doctor / Wraith / just most m1 killers are screwed and survivors have to ######### up a lot.

  • The problem in DbD is that you never have the possibility to pressure gen unless if you get a 3 gens situation at the end of the trial.

If you don't get it, you are never able to pressure the gens, maps are too big, layout is all the time broken...

  • So I just need to play for 8,000 hours like Otz and then I can handle the gen speeds??

  • As everything in this game it depends. If the survivors do those corner gens that are 200km away from the killer, yeah it's not a problem. The problem is if the killer lets them get the middle gens, or break all the possible 3-4 gens.

I still think there should exist some early game slowdown mechanic though. Survivors shouldn't be able to complete a gen before the killer is even physically able to traverse the map.

  • Being at 2 gens with 1 hook is not a favorable position. When playing as survivor I rarely see killers get more than 1 kill if they get 1 hook by the time 3 gens pop. Survivors will easily finish the last 2 gens before the hooked survivor dies on hook.

in a way yes in a way no in alot of games if 3 gens pop before you end the second chase or so then i would say you played bad but if you spawn in red forest and all of them spawn on different gens and it takes you 40 seconds to find someone and then 20-30 to down them and then 10-15 to hook them its not so much your fault as much as it is the bad map design/ spawn rng

Well, apart from the bit where if the survivors, by design or happenstance, do all the gens centrally located it doesn't really change the scales at all because the patrol route doesn't effectively shorten. Map design and spawns rear their head again.

if you can down them in 30 seconds they are really bad... Depends on killer of course and map.

Unless they are inside deazone, chase should not be under 40 seconds, just hold W will give you 20 seconds.

  • 4 gens second or 3rd chase means nothing guys. Keep up the pressure.

  • Actually, it means everything, OP.

I hook 1 person, and 3 gens are done? That leaves 3 people to do 2 gens, which means they can stack up to do gens faster. That's not counting toolkits.

That 1 person gets saved? Now 4 people may be doing 2 gens. Again; this means faster gen speeds. Even if I chase someone again, even if I chase the SAME PERSON; this means those 2 gens can pop before I catch them, and they are not even dead on hook.

Gen speeds are a big reason why Killers camp; they feel pressured to remove SOMEONE from the game ASAP to cath up to the Survivor's objective being 2/5 to 3/5 done in one chase.

  • Kinda sorta not necessarily
