The reason they tbag is for them to get your attention and be toxic, but if they know you are not looking at them, they know their tbagging won't do anything to you since the killer can't see you doing it.

When I used to care more (I'm somewhat jaded to this particular form of bad sportsmanship now) I would simply Mori them. I play Myers and the Tombstone Piece allows me to grab someone standing up and Mori them right there where they stand. I used to carry one every game and NOT use it until the end, saving it for the exit gates (if they happened) because I got a rather nice chuckle at running toward them. They would allow the hit, assuming they would just fall outside the line. Instead, they get picked up, killed, and tossed aside like trash. The after match chatter is priceless.

I did not ask you to address his points. The point of this thread is to discuss totems and the "just do bones" strategy and the like. Sarcasm and snarky remarks don't get anything done. They just promote toxicity. Stop. No need to belabor the point. We shouldn't need a mod here just to get people to be respectful.

I do believe that is what "I" am doing, in the context of doing Bones is the best way to deal with NOED. So let's talk about it? I brought up some things up, let's palaver.

I'm not saying he said something right or wrong, I'm asking you to be respectful of others on the forums. You don't need to call people beginners or assume that they don't know the game to your standards. You don't know who that person is and you shouldn't make statements like that. This should be an inclusive community that respects people and their opinions. I don't need you telling me to re-read your posts because I'm misunderstanding anything. What I understand is that you're being condescending and I don't appreciate it. Please stop. That's it.

I believe you asked me to address his points. I just did so. I notice you don't address any of the things I just brought up. Am I missing a MOD by your name somewhere? I assure you that they keep an eye on me and will edit my posts or speak to me privately if/when I cross the line. Sarcasm is not against the rules here, and believe it or not I am quite civil. Again, if my sarcasm cuts deep, it is because it is true. That kind of sarcasm is always the most painful.

You seem like a nice person, and I don't begrudge you for wanting to play Hall Monitor. However, I would point out that until you brought this back up both he and I had dropped things and had moved on. Perhaps leaving it at that would have been a better option? I'm a direct person, and sometimes I can be rather cutting. When I'm wrong I apologize and eat crow. I've done it before and I'm sure I will do it again. I own my mistakes. The person who posted made blanket statements but he did not support them with any kind of arguments or evidence. I called him on the carpet for that.

I get that at low ranks its strong, but ranks 1-3 its simply a way to help you get some trackion.

I as a killer do not wanna sweat 2/3 matches against good swf with all their op perks completely untouched for years when the killer finally gets something to help early game at red ranks and its nerfed within 3 months.

The devs say they want something to help with early game... well you had it but all the bad survivors complained so you nerfed it into the ground immediately.

If they complain about something as simple as doing totems what the hekk are you ever gonna be able to do to help early game lol

Devs need to get a back bone, stop babying bad survivors and force them to learn how to loop in a chase.

I understand your angst, and I think they were a bit overkill in that tweak too. I think it could have been changed to be less drastic. But it is what it is, and it isn't the end of the world. I stopped using the combination the second they announced it was going away. Why? Got to get back into the saddle for other combinations. Besides, there are great combinations that are even more effective. Oppression+Pop is very good, for example.

When you say something like "I think it is hilarious that you are telling us what DbD is "about" when clearly you don't know many things. Tell us o'wise one, what is DbD about? The rest of us being ignorant need you to lift the veil from our eyes." it's not productive, and it's insulting. There are better ways to make your case without being condescending or coming across as knowing more than anyone else. If you have a problem with how he views the game, it's fine to respond to that, but please do it in a manner that is respectful and productive to the conversation. As the old saying goes, if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

I didn't claim to know anything. I think you need to reread his post and my response again. I didn't comment on what "I" know only that I think it is funny that he, clearly a beginner, is telling us what DbD is about. I'm very direct when I comment on what I think and why. He decided to let it drop, so I did as well. You are bringing it back up.

So if you want me to talk about the issues with his post in depth, I can.

    1. He talks about NOED and impossible saves.
    2. He says it is anti-climactic, and by inference he means getting killed at the end instead of escaping.

I feel safe to say this was his intent based on reading comprehension. The problem is that NOED does NOT create impossible saves. They happen, as I'm sure you know, every day. They can be done by:

    1. One member of the remaining Survivors (or more) desperately search and destroy the now lit Totem.
    2. A wounded member hits himself with the Styptic Agent (and uses BT) to run in and get the unhook where both the unhooker and the unhooked have protection.
    3. Someone makes the rescue using BT but has Unbreakable with others about so when the Killer tries to chase the unhooked he gets back up and bolts shortly thereafter.
    4. Multiple Survivors with Flashlights come in and blind.
    5. One Survivors with BT unhooks and probably goes down while the other bolts with the Killer chasing. Another Survivor comes out and uses Anti-Hemorrhagic Syringe (or just heals quick). Ideally the Killer is chasing away the unhooked toward a gate not knowing that third Survivor was handy.

I could go on. I've done all of these things (and many more variations) and had them done to me when I was a Killer. My point is that it was not a wise choice of words for someone new to say "this is impossible!" He didn't ask how it could be done. He made a blanket statement which was factually incorrect as all of us know. Are NOED rescues rough? Sure. Do a lot of Survivors cut and run? Yeah, but not the good ones. The good Survivors have a plan of action and it normally involves simply making sure NOED never goes off in the first place, or killing it before making the rescue run. The gates don't get opened; they get 99'd.

Now let's tackle the anti-climactic comment. No, he is simply WRONG. A big, final act is always when the stakes are highest. NOED creates that situation, i.e. darkest before the dawn, everything is riding on it, this is for all the marbles. Anti-climactic would be the Survivors open the gates and meander out with nothing to fear. What the Poster meant was it was anti-climactic because he/she didn't get out alive. They felt it was over when the Gens went up (a common mistake) and that they DESERVE to exit. Do you follow? The gates are up but now the tension is REALLY on! That is what makes a great final act. What horror movie can you think of, particularly of the Slasher variety, that ends in a wimper? They all end with a BANG, an escape barely managed at the last second. Or they end on a bang where the victim dies just short of the exit. Neither is anti-climactic because the stakes were HIGH.

Can we please keep this civil and friendly? I want us all to have a discussion and not insult fellow fog dwellers. I understand some people might have differing opinions, but it doesn't call for sarcasm or accusatory comments.

For the most part, I wasn't being sarcastic, except for the end. It is merely pet peeve of mine when people who don't really know or understand the game yet, are going to instruct us on its meaning. It is arrogant and more than a bit condescending. What I did was give the person a direct, honest wake up about what he/she had done. There really wasn't a nice way to put it that would have driven the point home. I think I was very civil, all things considered. The blade only cut deep because what I said was true.

The only other thing I could have done would have been to adopt my kind, grandfatherly, wise voice, but that would have been just as condescending and arrogant as the post I answered. What I did instead, was state facts and invite the poster to enlighten us and prove that he does understand DbD better. If he had, I would have happily eaten crow.

  • I voted "it depends" because I don't use that awful Perk. :) I love me the OG, my main man Myers, but that Perk is for the birds. I stopped using it the second I got Adept.

In fairness, Trapper is 10x cooler than Jason Voorhees. :) I've never been motivated by a deformed, child who appears to have a brain animated, zombie-style by lake algae that hears the voice of his mother telling him to kill hot teens. I mean it took him like three movies just to get the cohesive look that we associate with him. I apologize to any Jason fans out there, but lets be honest, he is the K-Mart special of slasher Killers, born of a film that the Director admits was simply an attempt to copy what they thought worked in Halloween.

Trapper on the other hand, well he has style.

Here we go folks, the one and only exclusive to the forums step by step guide on how to play Myers in the "asymmetrical", atleast that's what they call it, horror game Dead by Daylight

    1. Open up DBD
    2. Buy Myers if you haven't already
    3. Pick Ghost-Face
    4. Enjoy gaming

That's my guide on how to be good at the game thank you for the follow and subscribe on myspace, love y'all

Funny, but no. Ghostface, with his buggy weird power, may be effective, but he will NEVER be cool. :) Myers will always be the original article and the best. Play Myers.

  • There absolutely is nothing wrong with running NOED. Do I run it? No, not that often. That is because I don't have room for it. I don't like to plan for the End Game. :) I want to win before we get there. However, there is nothing morally wrong with NOED, nor does it make you a bad sport. If it works for you, use it.

I've been playing DbD for a month now, and found my way to rank 4 (the first red rank) on both sides. But it seems to me almost everyone is miserable playing this game, so I'm very torn about investing more time on it.

Coordinated SWF's make the game unfun for killers, which then have to be too strong for uncoordinated solo-q survivors, which in turn "sabotage" the game for SWF's, thus creating an unending loop where everyone is unhappy most of the time.

A good part of the community seems to expect this to be a competitive game, but everything I have seen the devs saying so far is almost the opposite of what proper balance for a competitive game should look like. Nothing is meant to be fair, and apparently by design. This should appeal to casual players, but I don't think anything will ever appeal to them in an exclusively PvP game.

I'm really unsure why I should sink in any more time on this if it's not possible to see this as a serious competitive game, but also not as a chill casual one. Any thoughts?

This is going to be a pragmatic, shoot from the hip evaluation. I hope it helps. You are going to get a ton of people tell you I'm wrong, so take it with a grain of salt. My credentials to make these observations are that I've been playing video games since Pong. I'm in my fifties now, and still strive to be the best. This is a habit I picked up from wanting MY high score to be all the ones showing, pushing everyone else off in the Arcade.

    1. Of course DbD is a competitive game. There are very few games that are not.
    2. Games do not have to be balanced or fair to be competitive; that is a misconception.
    3. There is no such thing as a "casual" game, because the game doesn't decide how the players approach it.

This game is an unfettered, in your face, battle royal. Four people try to get out alive while a maniac tries to kill them. You earn Emblems by doing certain things successfully. You earn Blood Points for doing certain things. The other side has goals which are mutually exclusive from yours. It doesn't get more competitive than that. And beyond Emblems and Blood Points, there is the mutually accepted notion that 3-4K is a Killer Win, 2K is a Draw, and 0-1K is a Survivor win. Do you see where I'm going with this? We aren't sitting around putting a jigsaw puzzle together as a group project. We aren't knitting an afghan for Nana. We are striving against one another, plain and simple.

Life is competitive and it isn't fair either. The sooner people accept the obvious, the happier they will be.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSrv-yE6Agk

In closing there are two types of people, those that rise to the challenge regardless of how the deck is stacked against them, and those that cry off and/or complain endlessly about how unfair things are. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the people who spend less time complaining (or quitting) about the unfairness of life tend to succeed.

Yes, facing 5000 hours tryhard killers all the time. Game is unplayable

Damn... you and I come from different worlds. To me... THAT is the the Dream. I want those Killers and Survivors... because if you can get to where you can play them.... you have accomplished something.

  • I think it really depends on whether or not they were there to play the game, or if it was a Bully Squad. I've seen Flashlights and Head On used to torment Killers, and the Survivors weren't actually trying to play the game at all. :) The group was trying to get the Killer to quit. It is a fine line. If they were just two very enterprising Survivors who came up with a working gimmick and have practiced the timing, sure there is nothing going on there. But there is a point where you start to wonder. :)

  • Bullying behavior is a reportable offense, however because they were using flashlights their bullying would only take them so far. I think you did the right thing in reporting them for the unsportsmanlike conduct.

  • Well... if we are really going to entertain the idea.... I don't think Buffy is the right call for the chapter. We don't need the Slayer. We need a Killer and some good Survivors. And thus... we need:

FAITH as the Killer, i.e. our first beautiful, deadly evil gal. A dark Slayer fits the bill. She can even use her favorite knife.

The Survivors should be Xander and Giles. We have plenty of women Survivors already.

*Key point, getting the license to use these three would be a whole heck of a lot cheaper than the other characters.

Anything non-red survivors do or don't that separate them from a legit red?

Well... I'm trying to think of a way to say this which won't sound too arrogant and vain. It is getting harder for me to tell Red Rank from any other color. Don't get me wrong, I can tell a superstar, i.e. a REAL Red Rank in my first chase. But a lot of Red Ranks do not have the required skills anymore. I don't know how they are getting there, except perhaps grinding and getting a lot of Killers who aren't Red somehow.

Thus, I'm often stunned by how many Red Ranks I killed in a match, when I was assuming they were potatoes or Green or Purple at best. So to answer your question, no... there is no way for the Killer to tell you apart once he/she has reached a certain level of skill.

  • Nope, that is about par for the course for the last six months. Once you hit Purple, you get Red Rank Killers a lot. I don't know how or why, but I hear this a LOT. :) I'm a Red Rank Killer and I MOSTLY get all Red Rank squads or Red/Purple mix, or Red who brought along (or got stuck with) a Smurf.

The pig. That lady with the pig mask and the snowflake assasins creed wristblade, and most of all, those damned face traps.

I will admit I don't have a lot of experience playing killer, but i look at this one and i can't see any drawbacks that the others pay for their abilities.

Those traps are the big deal. When/if you get unhooked, you need to go track down the key for your trap, or you die. And thats not even guaranteed, yesterday i died to a trap, after finishing searching 3/4 of the jigsaw boxes on the map and not finding the key.

Usually i do find it though, usually the mask doesn't kill, that was just an unlucky day.But the much bigger deal is, the time it takes.

I could understand if the traps only killed you on leaving, but otherwise had no time limit, so you could take your time searching, do objectives and look for the key whenever you find some spare moments

I could understand if the traps had a time limit, but escaping would prevent it, because then you could try to ignore it and focus on objectives, take a gamble

But it kills in BOTH cases, so your one and only choice is to go look for the key immediately. Time you spend looking for a key is time you don't spend repairing generators, this is hugely powerful.

It also makes you predictable, she can patrol the jigsaw boxes and easily catch people trying to get their masks off. They can't even hide bcause of the accursed beeping

This seems far more powerful than the unique abilities given to any other killer. I'd say freddy is second place, but he still can't hold a candle to this. Pig doesn't even need to hook anyone, ever. She can just go around doing knockdown and mask all day

What does she pay for this ability?

I know she's got that wierd stealth attack, but that is clearly optional. I've had plenty of cases where pig just runs up and hits me in plain view.

She's still got the "higher than survivors" movespeed and can win a chase. maybe she's slower than other killers, but it doesn't feel like it's making a difference

Can anyone explain to me how the pig is not the most overpowered killer in the game by far. To such a degree that she eclipses all the other killers, and would presumably be played by everyone all the time if she wasnt locked behind a paid DLC

Entry cost aside, i can't see any drawbacks.

I recently created another post about Pig and i am successful with her. Her Trap pressure is amazing and survivors literally hopeless

I feel your pain. Pig was, for me, my own personal Kryptonite. For the longest time I never got out of any matches with here alive. If I saw a Saw box I'd be like, "here we go again." It never seemed to get any better. I could handle a Nurse, a Spirit, and a Freddy, but Pig would always get me.

She really isn't any worse than any other Killer. One day I got out alive. I stopped letting the beartraps (or her) weird me out. You will get there too.

I'd yawn? I think we have one too many now. I like the DbD original better than Bubba.

  • I know; I love blanket statements like the one you answered. It is as if they assume every Killer is a Squatter (Face Camper) who can't upkeep Gen. pressure with a good proxy camp. Personally, I think the change is going to bring the Mori back in force. There is a way to make it work that is dirty as hell.

Today I came across a streamer talking about the changes to Undying, and saying how it's actually going to promote gameplay that survivors dislike most, which is camping. The way Undying+Ruin is now is heavily promoting the killer to move around the map frequently rather than stays sat in one area, and I think he is correct, and I'm starting to think the streamer has a point, but wanted to discuss it. What do you lot think?

Absolutely it is going to encourage different tactics. You should have been careful what you wished for.

  • @offwhiteknight said:

I've noticed that if I just pick out the 4 closest together generators and defend those with a little pressure for show on the other nearby gens, that survivors will go out of their way to give me a 3 gen. Doesn't really matter if they're Rank 20 or Rank 1. They will rush to give me that 3 gen as fast as possible.

Sure I'm giving away usually 2 gens for free, but the late game makes it worth it. The survivors get cocky and start making some really dumb plays because I let 2 gens pop quickly. Sometimes they give me 3 gens that are so close I barely need to patrol. I find this strategy really effective versus teams that knock out gens super quick. They usually use up those brand new parts and purple toolboxes on the first couple of gens that I was going to let them have anyway.

I can't help but laugh at how simple this is and how willing the survivors are to give me this gift. Insidious Hag is the best. You just set up your traps and wait in the middle of your territory. Hit after hit after hit. ######### gets real, if I'm also defending a Devour Hope or Ruin totem and basement in that area.

When I play survivor I intentionally go to the other side of the map to avoid a killer doing this to us. I rarely see survivors do that when I'm killer.

What about other killers? Do you play for the intentional 3 gen strategy?

How about survivors? What do you do if anything to make sure you aren't giving this too easy. Playing both sides it appears that most survivors just do the closest gen regardless. I honestly didn't start using this strategy until I started playing survivor and noticed this behavior.

Yes. Survivors take the Generators of least resistance MOST of the time. You can control where they go work if you desire.

That's all well and good but the token rework suggestions do still benefit the killer in the same way of how many bones were completed. Some games that obscure totem is not found and noed exists infinitely. Your suggestion won't work because the whole premise of noed is the fact it's also backed up by camping and an impossible save. This is a deterrent, it's anticlimatic and not what dbd is about.

    A couple of things:

    1. This thread isn't about camping. There are plenty of those for you to vent your spleen on.
    2. There is no such thing as an impossible save; you just don't know to do it yet. People get saved from the hook from right under the nose of a face-camping Killer every day. Please don't assume that because YOU can't do it, that it is't possible.
    3. I think it is hilarious that you are telling us what DbD is "about" when clearly you don't know many things. Tell us o'wise one, what is DbD about? The rest of us being ignorant need you to lift the veil from our eyes.

The thing I don't like about totems being an objective is that there is no way to know if all totems have been cleansed. There are no icons, no pop up that says "all totems cleansed", nothing. Unless you're in a SWF, you have no way of knowing unless you yourself cleanse all totems or go around the map checking every possible totem spawn until you find where all of them are/were. It's definitely a gamble to run a perk like NOED, but because DBD on the survivor side is a team based game and you have to rely on other people, it's much more of a gamble for the survivor than the killer. How much time can survivors afford to waste going around the map checking totem spawns? Can every solo queue survivor in every game afford to go around the entire map checking totem spawns and cleansing? I'm just posing these questions as a way to sort of see how you guys think about the totems and how we interact with them. I'm not making any arguments for or against cleansing or NOED, or whatever strategies people use in their games to counter hex perks in general.

I agree, a Totem counter which shows how many are cleansed would be a welcome addition.

  • @GannTM said:

In my opinion, NOED is such a huge problem and is very unhealthy for the game. This perk is by no means one of the best in the game and that's not the issue with this perk. The issue with NOED is that it's a bail-out perk for the killer and rewards the killer for playing badly. I can think of plenty of much better killer perks that aren't an issue. I think Whispers is a perfect example of that. Whispers is one of the best perks in the game if not the greatest, however, you never see anyone complain about it because it's a perk that rewards the killer for having good awareness, game sense, and game knowledge instead of bailing out bad killers that end up getting one kill against a survivor who's done well throughout the whole match, gets smacked with NOED, and gets frustrated because they know they didn't deserve to die.

So how exactly do we fix this? I think NOED should become a perk that rewards killers for playing well throughout the match but just couldn't stop the gens from getting done. I think that for every survivor that is on death hook at end game, they should have the exposed status effect for the remainder of end game. A buff to compensate would be to not make it a hex perk. Keep the haste status effect as well.

I'm not sure if this change will immediately end the complaints people have with this perk, but it will certainly be one step in the right direction. Tell me what you all think of this. Is this idea good or bad? I'd love to know y'all's thoughts.

NOED isn't broken and thus doesn't need fixing. What needs an adjustment is the attitude of Survivors. Just as Killers are gambling with a Perk slot that can be wiped off the map in sixteen seconds, Survivors who choose not to do Totems in favor of more time on Generators are also placing a bet. This game is all about choices.

There are four Survivors. There are only five Totems. Every Survivor spots at least 1-2 Totems as they move around, even when they aren't using a map or Totem-related Perk. If each one takes one out as they go, four of the Totems are already gone. Do you see my point? The fact that SURVIVORS choose not to do this, is on them. So I repeat, there is nothing wrong with NOED; there is something wrong with the attitude towards cleansing Totem OBJECTIVES. :)

  • @darkcloudlink said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1901025#Comment_1901025

I think the common argument is that especially in solo queue, not everyone will do totems. To my point, I've seen people say they don't care, nor will they go out of their way to cleanse them. That strategy only works if everyone commits to doing totems when they see them. But because randomized matchmaking is inconsistent and I can't guarantee I will be matched with likeminded people, it becomes a guessing game whether or not all the totems have been cleansed, even if you yourself have cleansed 2.

Yes, that is a common argument. It is a wrong-headed argument. That says nothing about whether or not NOED is balanced. The problem is clearly the SURVIVORS who are choosing not to do the bones. Do you see my point? This game is about agency, that of the Killers and the Survivors. Totems are a gamble for BOTH sides. The Killer is gambling away a Perk Slot hoping that his Totem isn't immediately wiped off the map. It is high risk with the potential of high gain. The Survivors who choose not to spend time on Totems (WHICH ARE AN OBJECTIVE) are gambling that diverting all that time to Generators will pay off with a faster exit. Their bet is that there will be no NOED or that they can avoid it anyway. Again, high risk with the potential of high gain.

There is nothing wrong with NOED. There is something wrong with the attitude of most Survivors. I personally suggested that they simply make NOED a base mechanic so that Survivors have no doubt that they should be doing those Bones. :) My suggestion is that it activates once the last Generator is powered and anyone who has not cleansed at least one Totem (lit or unlit) is now Exposed. *Those that did are not. The switch to power the gates, however, is locked down by the Entity for a period of time based on how many Totems are still in play. 5=60 seconds, 4=45 seconds, 3=30 seconds, 2=20 seconds, 1=10 seconds. And of course, going out and killing the now lit NOED will end the negative effects immediately. Personally, I think this would finally make it crystal CLEAR to Survivors that Totems are objectives. But the DEV prefer to let them continue to gamble and then complain that they lost. Funny that. It is just like gamblers I've watched lose everything in Vegas. They complain and complain and complain, when they knew which bets were safe and which were not.

I complained about things in the game throughout last month, grew into a bad sport, started to overly rant and became the part of the bad sport problem. Yesterday, I made a dump email to anonymously degrade the game for which I was caught and warned by the mod, then went into blind state of fury, requesting very passive agressively for my forum account to be deleted since I quote myself: "I don't want any connections to the game anymore" (to whom I also apologise) , which was done and I unistalled the game.

After I cooled down, I've spent time thinking throughout the night about what I was doing the past month. I've decided to create new account and to take responsibility for my actions and to openly apologise to people I was toxic to, both on forums and in game.

I hope to be a better sport, teammate and an opponent from now on.

    Happy surviving and sacrificing!

    P. S. Writing this was my own decision, I was not forced into this.

It is a grown man or woman that takes responsibility for their actions. There isn't one among us that hasn't lost their temper or been a bad sport at one point or another. While I don't think I was on the receiving end of anything you said (that I know of), I accept the apology for my own part. I can't speak for people whom you might have offended though. You have made a step in the right direction. The key is not to backpedal. There is a great video by Otz on how not to get tilted. It has helped a lot of people. It is particularly useful for people playing this rather stressful game:

The logic applies to other things in life too. Good luck and stick to the path; see you in the fog.

I've been wondering lately about how effective going out of your way to cleanse all 5 totems in a match is. I'm not really trying to start any sort of NOED argument or anything of that nature, but more often than not, especially when I play solo queue, I find that unless I run Detective's Hunch and, given the opportunity, cleanse all 5 totems myself, totems rarely get cleansed outside of hexes. I can understand the 4 man SWF sort of approach, but a solo survivor or duo won't likely be able to do every one. 9/10 times, if I see a totem, I do a totem, that how I play, and that's how I always play, but I came across a survivor today who couldn't understand why we'd cleanse totems when ruin was gone, and insisted it's useless. Do any of you feel like cleansing totems is useless outside of visible Hex perks (Ruin/Undying/Devour Hope/Huntress Lullaby etc)?

It is actually pretty easy. There are five Totems. There are four Survivors. I've NEVER played a game, nor has anyone I play with ever crossed a map without seeing at least 1-2 Totems. If each person stops to cleans one Totem, then four of them are already gone. Only one of you has to do an extra. This doesn't even require a map or Perk. It just happens as a matter of course. But yes, if someone bothers to bring a map or a Perk that helps him/her find them it becomes even easier. More to the point, you don't have to cleanse any Totems that are lit (if you don't want to) to stop NOED. As long as the unlit ones are gone, NOED can't appear when the Generators are powered.

For me recently the anxiety is not so much salt related but more because 3 gens fly and there's still 4 people left and I got 2 hooks or something. Even though I know that 1 gen is going to pop first chase, it still annoys the heck out of me every time. So often at this point I'll just go stand by the exit gate switch ready to usher the survivors out.

I'm still not good enough at mind games quickly and need to know when to drop chase and slug I guess.

Well don't be an usher. Never give up. Keep fighting till the bitter end no matter how few hooks you get. You don't want to get those games over quicker. Remember, those are the crucible by which you will make yourself into a better Killer. Games you lose are often more useful, from a training perspective, than the ones you win. In short, keep trying even if you manage nothing more than running them out the gate.

I've played both sides for quite some time. I have drifted more and more towards playing survivor because of the fact that the less I play killer, the less I enjoy it. I've tried to analyze the situation and come to some kind of conclusion. The conclusion is basically the following:

    • To avoid being antagonized post game, I stick to a playstyle that is 'fair'. This playstyle is essentially to not camp or tunnel. Problem is, playing 'fair' is not always effective. My objective is to kill survivors and stop them from completing their objective. If I have no snowball I have to generate it. This is no different from survivors prioritizing a gen over a health state and so on. When utilizing 'dirty' tactics to turn a bad situation over, many survivors chastise you for doing so. Even if you win the game, the survivors can deny you the sense of accomplishment by calling you out. This is especially apparent when several players chime in.
    • I feel constantly evaluated. My playstyle as survivor is never commented on unless it is in a positive manner. As killer, however, it is totally normal for other players to comment on your decisions, blunders, playstyle etc. Heck, I do it myself sometimes when playing survivor. This creates a lot of performance anxiety as I cannot let my guard down. I rarely play new killers or tactics any more because I cannot cope with the stress.
    • Not winning leaves me with a sense of shame. I have no idea why, but I feel much worse when losing in the role of killer as opposed to the role of survivor. This may have something to do with the co-op part of the game where you can carry your team to victory but still lose as an individual.

    Does anyone else recognize this?

It sounds like you are driven by the demons of "external validation" and thus you let your self image be defined by others. Screw that. The only thing you have to do to play "fair" is:

    1. Don't cheat, either by hack or lag spike.
    2. Don't disconnect; if you start a game, finish it.
    3. Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

Everyone loses games now and then. Some of us more than others. Do you really care what some nameless, faceless person on the internet might say about how you play a silly game like Dead by Daylight? I sure don't. I will tunnel, camp, slug, herd, and Mori if a specific match calls for it. I'm always going to give 100% to kill as many Survivors as I can, just as I assume they are doing their best to get out.

If you are concerned about what these squawking voices on the internet might say, just don't read the after game chat. Hit "Upgrade" or "Continue" immediately and move on. Me personally, I kind of enjoy it. Sometimes people say nice things and are polite. Sometimes they are polite by remaining silent, keeping their salt to themselves. And sometimes, yes, you get people who are not being humble in victory or gracious in defeat. I say embrace it. If they are salty or passive aggressive:

    1. Say something like, "YES! Let me taste the delicious salt of your tears!"
    2. Or, be crazy friendly and complimentary as if you don't hear or understand a thing they are saying.
    3. Or, just say something like, "yeah... so?" It doesn't really matter what they accused you of doing.

The simple truth is you will be accused of literally everything ANYWAY whether you play fair or not. Bad sports are going to be bad sports regardless. My advice is just play hard, get good enough to murder them all, and just have a chuckle when you get salt. That is what I do. I love getting salt; makes my day. The only thing that upsets me these days are when I see hacks or Survivors who DC or suicide leaving their team in a lurch.

I'm a killer main, I don't use it, but do understand why people hate it. It's the most complained about perk in the entire game. Less frustrating and less used perks have been nerfed, but why not noed? This isn't a nerf/ rework noed thread, genuinely asking why?

Because being complained about and being bad aren't the same thing? The DEV want people to treat Totems as an objective as important as Generators. The mere existence of NOED helps that. Also, it isn't used that much outside the Potato Ranks so I doubt it shows up heavily in statistics overall.

I'm a red rank survivor, and normally the killers are a mix of red, purple and even green ranks. However, recently nearly every single match has been against a rank 1 killer, which is honestly really annoying. Over the weekend 90% of the matches were against rank 1, and today I've played five and four of them were rank 1. Even before rank reset I never got this many. It probably sounds really petty to complain about, but constantly going against really good killers that demolish your team every single match is not fun. Is there a reason for getting so many or am I just really unlucky?

Good. That is what you should be facing every match.

I believe that since these are legit strategies they should be defined. i do see your point, after all i did vote your message up.

'' Your point in defining them seems to be, like so many others, to lay judgement on the tactics chosen.'' i believe this is incorrect. i wanna avoid confusion, mostly, but i do admit that i wanna justify my actions more easily vs toxic survivors, so a definition will make things quicker.

''quick communication in a match'' also correct, i suppose.

But basically what you proposed are also definitions, arent they? So if mine dont have values, doesnt it apply to yours as well?

''Most of the things you are intending to define or redefine have already been stated are valid, legal tactics that a Killer can choose to employ''

Youre so incorrect on the first one. They dont have a clear definition at ALL. Scott has made an interesting video about this, i suggest checking it out. I dont believe any of this should be reportable, ive made a post myself declaring that some months ago.

and i never said that the killer SHOULDNT employ these tactics, did i? I just dont want to be called a filthy camper when i follow the survivor rule book.

but i do thank you for your feedback :)

Fair enough, and I appreciate you taking the time to elaborate on your intention, i.e. goal. I still submit that my terms are different because they are for specific, in-game use. I give them out as examples, but ultimately they only have value for someone playing in a Team w/Comms. In the end, while I can understand (and even appreciate) the goal you stated, I'm going to point out that even when things do have a clear meaning, people apply them for other purposes, i.e. to judge, shame, and manipulate other Players. It is why I'm not sure there is a value outside of communications in a match.

For example, I've been accused of tunneling and camping even in matches where I gave everyone THREE hooks (very hard to do today) and never did the same person in a row. I never staid by a single hook. :) I was called these things merely because I won the match. Thus, I don't really see the need in creating or perpetuating such terms because they never get used correctly even if they are defined.

  • @CLAUDETTEINABUSH said:

I've mentioned it before and I'll mention it again, this time in a forum!

Tunneling/camping/slugging/bullying have no clear definitions whatsoever, so I think that clarifying what those mean will result in a proper understanding of most situations. Let us begin.

Tunneling is intentionally targeting a tunneled survivor without caring about the unhooker or the people nearby. What that means, is that if you find only the unhooked person and down them, you basically had no choice but to do so. Let's call it "unintentional tunneling". But if you go back and find both the unhooker and the unhooked and prioritise the unhooked then it's considered tunneling.

Camping is when a killer is standing to a close radius of the hooked person for a long period of time, when they know they can leave the hook and be productive. This usually happens when the hooked survivor annoyed the killer in some way. Meaning that if a killer sees other survivors with bbq and decides to stay on hook, it is camping. But if the killer just finishes hooking and knows everyone is in that area waiting for the unhook, then there's no point to leave the hook. So the toxic behavior is camping, but situations like these aren't actually toxic. I'd call it "strategic placement" or "strategic camping"

Slugging is when a killer chooses to not hook a survivor. The definition is pretty clear tbf, most people know that, but I'd go a step further and say that slugging is when 2 or more people are on the dying state and the killer refuses to hook them. If it's one survivor I'd say they're simply applying pressure. But yeah, I suppose you can call one person being downed for a certain period of time slugging.

Bullying is when survivors ignore their primary objective and decide to annoy the killer because they know they're better than them. I don't have an actual clear view of this, but I'd call it that it's the toxic effort to make the killer's game miserable for your own amusement.

So, that's the definitions I give to these words. I'm not saying to write them on the "dbd constitution", I'm just saying that for the majority of the reasonable community, these are the definitions. Let me know if I am incorrect about any of these below, and if you want make your own definitions below.

Why? By in large these concepts are entirely subjective, and hence worthless. These terms are of zero value to the community and just add more fuel to an already idiotic fire. Your point in defining them seems to be, like so many others, to lay judgement on the tactics chosen. The only valid reason to try and define them is for quick communication in a match. And that requires a "Team" using some sort of Comms. Let me give you some examples. If/when I play on a Team (I do Solo mostly), me and mine have specific terms that communicate a lot of information fast. It cuts down on what we have to say.

    1. Squatter: This is a Killer who stays point blank at the hook, making no attempt to hide and wants to maximize the ability to punish or prevent a save. I only need to say, "We have a Squatter," and my Team knows everything they need to make choices.
    2. Lurker: This is a Killer who stays very close to the hook, but hides from both the would-be rescuers and the person on the hook. They usually use both terrain and Perks. They don't want to discourage rescues; they are using bait.
    3. Camper: This Killer isn't staying right next to the hook. He/she is making a series of short range patrols, never going too far that they cannot get back quickly if they get a rescue notification, or see a Survivor making a rescue run. This allows the Killer to keep up some Generator pressure, and invites the most attempts at rescue.

My point is having the three definitions above serves an in-game purpose, i.e. allowing Survivors to know details, to adjust their tactics. It has value. I don't believe what YOU are wanting to do has value. It is just another attempt to codify the Survivor's Rulebook for Killers.

So again, I ask you WHY? What purpose are you seeking to serve? Most of the things you are intending to define or redefine have already been stated are valid, legal tactics that a Killer can choose to employ. That means they are legitimate and above our judgement. Only "Bullying" stands apart in your list, and we already know the definition of it. It is already against the rules. Being obnoxious is a reportable offense. Your very act of lumping Bullying in with legal tactics shows your bias too. Do you see my point?

So you are saying that you can play against tourney squads with Myers with ONLY basic perks aka whispers/sloppy and maybe stbfl and dying light? And win? Because it's no joke that skill cap has a limit with certain killers, also you can't tell me that you play nurse the exact same way as let's say billy because you and I know that they don't play similar at all the basics you do keep but not the same playstyle that works on let's say freddy and clown, and again killers have a skill cap that can be improved with perks like stbfl that makes chases surprisingly easy.

And now a days because streaming is a thing I've seen newbies come to streamers asking for advice for new killers and what perks should they go for so they know what perks to look for.

For all I know I have fought Tournament Squads already, many times in fact. Until recently, when all matches have become rainbow hued, I fought nothing but all Red Rank teams, and most of them SWF. I never made any claim about which Perks I use. I said I have slowly but surely gained all I needed from the Shrine. I can't comment on Nurse or Billy aside from fighting "against" them, because I tend to play one Killer at a time until I feel competent, and I haven't gotten around to either of those yet. Right now I'm interested in Trapper. I still play Myers quite often though.

What I'm saying is that the skill cap isn't the Killers or the Perks. It is the PLAYER. That is why we have crazy good people like Otz (and a notable few others) able to take any Killer and win over and over again with them, sometimes with no Perks at all. This game isn't pay to win. This game is PRACTICE to win. You have to pay your dues in the field. The most important skills for Killers or Survivors are the basics. I don't know why I'm bothering to argue this with you because you are the kind of person who blames your failures on the build, or limitations, or not having the right Perks. It is never YOU is it?

I'm a different sort of player. The buck stops with me. When I win, I take credit. When I lose, I take responsibility.

  • @OGlilSPOOK20 said:

I did 1 gen by myself and the rest of the game was pretty much me running the killer for 4 gens.

I get downed when all gens are done so the killer doesn't have Noed, but my teammates actually decided to open the exit gates and legit straight up LEAVE ME!

I'm blown away..... I'm legit pissed. Like.... None of you had the balls to come save me?

Come to find out they're a 3 man swf. They didn't care if I died as long as it wasn't one of them. Like ######### are you serious?

What you experienced is, sadly, quite common. It is why I firmly believe (one among many reasons) that Solo and Team need to be in their own Ques. You were their "Red Shirt," i.e. an disposable person. Do all SWF treat the Red Shirt so poorly? No. But it is still far more common than not. In the end, you aren't really part of their group. All that being said, you won't get an annoying 3-Person SWF every match. I play Solo 90% of the time and get into plenty of matches where we are all Solo, and understand our obligations to one another.

Overtime, but not always there, so let's assume you start today and know what perks you want, how would you do it? Also going by that logic wraith is really strong with base game perks.

You get to a limit in how good you are with no perks while there are variables there isn't that much you can do.

You and I clearly approach the game differently. I start playing and get as good as I can with whatever I have on hand. I add more from the Shrine as Perks that interest me become available. If I am "new" then I don't know what Perks I want yet now do I? The basic skills required of good Killers and good Survivors aren't found in Perks. That is why when I started just with Myers and took him to the top before I played anyone else, I didn't drop right to being a Potato the second I picked up a new Killer. There were new things to learn, certainly, but the basics of being a Killer were still there for me. The other stuff just comes with practice.

Of all the games I play, this one has been the least expensive. I have been entirely competitive buying the basic game and the Halloween DLC (everything on sale btw). My only cosmetic purchase has been Krampus for Trapper; sometimes I remember to use it. I have been able to run against very good Players and win consistently. That is why I find your argument without merit. You CAN choose to pay as much as you want and jump to whatever Perks you think you need, but it isn't required. "Pay to Win" implies that you can't do it any other way. That is laughably false.

  • @OldHunterLight said:

You realize that most killers are P2W right? Want ruin? Buy hag(unless console) want pop? Buy clown, want stbfl? Buy Myers, want bbq? Buy bubba, want IF and corrupt? Buy plague, list goes on.

Also saying that "play against a freddy back to back and see my side" isn't a good example, we were playing this game against really annoying freddies before back when forever freddy was a thing, now it barely does something, we were in the tunneling freddy with dying light era.

Except that it isn't. I have all those Perks and I didn't buy any of those guys but Myers. I got all the other Perks off the Shrine over time. They didn't cost me a thing. This "pay to win" argument holds no water. Moreover, I've seen people win match after match playing just the basic Killers that come with this game. It isn't the Killer you are driving, it is YOU. You either have what it takes, put in the work to earn if you don't, or not.

If we're REALLY going there; here's an idea, either give a cooldown to when he can teleport; like 45 seconds - 30 seconds of it so that it's not spammable. I doubt it is but i've seen the blood spurt from a gen more than 3 times in the span of 5 - 8 seconds. Also, note I didnt ignore your suggestion; I read it, whenever I do a post I read the comments I get on it and see what I can take from it. If it's nothing of value which is subjective to different people, I move on; likewise, if it has something of value i'll take that info and apply it to what I already do and dont know.

You know, I could tear your so-called arguments apart right now. I have a rhetorical sledgehammer I could use to leave you paste. Why are you wasting our time complaining about a Killer that you don't actually understand? Dream Projection DOES have a cooldown. Tell you what, before you make anymore suggestions about the Killer, why don't you go read up on him, or better yet play him. Nothing is more of pet peeve of mine than people who scream NERF at the top of their lungs when they don't even know what they are talking about.

I fail to understand where I insulted him muchless was being blunt about it. If your defintion of being insultive is me calling someone ignorant then 🤭

Yeah, in civilized circles calling someone ignorant is considered an insult. The fact that you don't understand that says more about you than it does anyone you choose to judge. I notice you completely ignored my suggestion that you address what exactly is broken about Freddy that isn't also broken about any other high mobility Killer with access to those same Perks. I also notice you did not give us any constructive suggestions to go along with your demand for a Nerf. I don't know if you have noticed, but you aren't exactly winning over any hearts or minds. Freddy is a highly effective Killer. However, I don't think you have demonstrated that he is anymore effective than any of the high mobility Killers that would use the exact same Perks. And again, you haven't offered any of YOUR ideas to fix things. Is that because you know once you do that you too will be judged, your ideas weighed and if found wanting massacred?

  • @SaltyNooty said:

Being ignorant won't help you here. This comment is the WALKING equivalent of "Skill issue bro, just get good." Dont comment If that's your plan.

And being insulting isn't helping your cause. The problem is that you are wrong about Freddy, in so far as him being the problem by himself. When you complained about him, you talked about all those information Perks on TOP of his ability to teleport between Generators. I would submit that all the high mobility Killers profit from the wealth of information Perks available. So is the problem their mutual ability to teleport, or the information Perks, or both in combination? Saying NERF Freddy is a totally useless. Give us specifics. A rant without constructive suggestions is just that, a rant.

  • All the high mobility Killers have a strength, i.e. excellent ability to maintain pressure at Generators far, far away. Freddy, in particular, keeps the Player on task, i.e. since he can only teleport to Generators, he enforces good habits in Killers. I think it goes a bit too far to say Freddy is "very easy to play" or his wins are unearned. In theory, all the high mobility types CAN do exactly what he does. The only difference is they have a choice and often make less efficient ones. Does that make sense? The only training wheels on Freddy, if you can call them that at all, is that his power enforces good patrol habits.

  • It seems like it would be counterproductive to you to do anything other thank play the game to your best ability.

If you had brought that opinion up at the beginning then I would have agreed with you and even thought that could be a good compromise, I think that's a great idea actually. But to tell someone it's fine and they are wrong and this is why makes the point of having a discussion redundant. I mean if Noed never changed then it is what it is and accept it and I'll try and deal with it the best way possible. I just wanted to give an opinion on how I would change it if it was going to be changed.

Fair point, and if you felt like I was challenging your right to have your say, you have my apology. I do think NOED is fine as it is, but only because I think Survivors should be able to learn, slow but sure, what is in their own best interest and make choices. I think agency is important for Survivors and Killers. The compromise I suggest is a good one, but it removes agency to a large degree. It makes it absolutely clear that they better do the Totems, i.e. it isn't a choice or a gamble, it is almost a necessity and punishes those who are lazy extra.

If NOED were to be changed, I'd suggest this because I think the Perk (and those like it) serve an important purpose, i.e. to get people to work on Bones as an objective. But overall, I think it would be better that Survivors just learn over time that it is in their own best interest to do them without being so heavy handed. In general, most Survivors do learn this lesson, and your teammates do get better. I rarely find NOED bites me anymore when I play Survivor because even if enough Totems survive to the end, someone kills the lit one. I think that is a good testament to trusting Players to learn on their own.

Someone's made a post on a discussion on why they think noed should be changed and I have given my opinion on how it should be changed if it was. If you then want to challenge that by saying that you're right and I am wrong then what's the point of even having a discussion forum. I understand it can be countered and I have a lot of experience in this game to know how to do so but if I want to give my opinion on how I feel it could be changed to reward the players who play well then I have every right to do so.

Sure you do, and I have every right (an obligation even) to challenge what you submit if I think it is wrong. This is a Forum, and the moment we post, our words can and will be challenged by others. That is part of the value. For the record, and I think I said this before, I would change NOED as follows:

    1. It activates just like it does now.
    2. The only Survivors who are Exposed are those that didn't do a single Totem up to that point.
    3. The gate handles are locked down and cannot be thrown for 60 seconds or until the now Lit NOED is found and cleansed.

I think this method would punish the Survivors who didn't do their share of Totems more, and still affect the entire Team and make sure they kill all the Totems. Totems are objectives and were always intended to take some heat off the Gen-Rush. I think making that even MORE clear would motivate your Teammates to do their job. You see, I can offer suggestions for tweaks too, but that doesn't mean I think NOED needs a change, only that the game might benefit from one.

The point is there are broken things on each side the both need changing. Most people who produce content on the game or are experienced in the game knows this so if you don't that's your problem.

No, the point is you and I disagree on whether it is broken or not. I think it is fine. Sometimes I make suggestions about tweaking it to make it CRYSTAL CLEAR to Survivors that they are supposed to do Bones. I suspect I watch all the same content producers you do, perhaps more. You should be careful making blanket statements. Do you really want me to to start posting clips proving you wrong? I'm going to cut you some slack because you clearly aren't taking a look at this issue in an unbiased way. You have been stung by NOED and instead of asking yourself, "what can I do better to overcome this obstacle" you start saying "THIS NEEDS TO BE CHANGED." Do you see the difference between you and I? Some people rise to challenges, and some people just like to complain.

I've not made my mind up about you yet, because everyone feels a bit stung the first couple of times NOED cuts them down. I have faith you can rise the challenge and find ways to get around it. My point, which you ignored or avoided answering multiple times is:

    1. You claim to kill Bones all the time, getting up to 4 all by yourself.
    2. You state you think it is unfair that your teammates don't help so NOED gets you.
    3. Where are your threads or posts talking about bad teammates and trying to educate them?
    4. There are only five Totems on the map. If you get up to four yourself, that means only one other Survivor has to kill one, right?

Do you see why I have no sympathy for your cause? It is misguided. It is biased. It is entitled and self-involved. It seems to me that the more effective way to deal with your problem would be to focus on getting the word out to other Survivors that each one should cleanse at least one, probably the first, Totem they see. Four survivors means only one Totem is left, and if someone like you can do four in a match, then the problem is GONE. There are countless Perks and Gear that help you find Totems. Why do you think that is? Why would the DEV make NOED a common Perk, provide you with Perks to hunt them, and maps to find them, if they didn't want you guys spending at least 16 seconds each killing one. Think hard.

Yeah because no one plays killer and says ds isn't fair right 🙄

Go back through my 2K+ posts and see if you can find any where I comment on DS (or any Perk) saying it isn't fair. :) I tell Killers who complain about Survivor Perks the same thing I'm telling you. If you don't like the game, there are plenty of others out there. Whining about things here is an unattractive trait. Screaming about how unfair things are is what a six year old does. We adapt; we move on. I play against the same things you do, both as Killer and Survivor, and I manage to get by.
