    Change my mind.

I don't care about DS one way or the other. The only thing I think should change about it is that the Survivor should not be able work on Generators and other things without deactivating it. :) Same thing with Borrowed Time, etc. The Perks aren't for you to do things in the Killer's face.

And like DS, Palette stuns can win you the chase or in some situations the game. Again, if the survivor is good enough to loop you palettes and DS are very powerful tools that amplify his time-wasting ability.

I don't see why you are belittling the palette stun? Palettes are survivors' strongest weapon in this game. It's what wins games for survivors.

I'm not. I simply answered the OP's question on whether I thought DS was that important for a Survivor. I don't.

Taking DS early is not a "counter" to DS. You still ate it. If the survivor was a good one and can loop you around for a long time, by the time you took the DS and downed him again 2-3 gens would be done. You tunneled that one survivor but you already lost basically. DS wins games if it can stop you from exerting pressure on the three other survivors.

If you say so? :) I've never found a DS stun any more inconvenient than a Pallet stun and nobody has brought up squat on me for taking one.

I don't want to run it because to me it feels like I'm cheating the Killer out of a kill. And I care about the other sides fun. However If my chases go even slightly well the Killer then tunnels me out of the game. And I'd really like to reach rank 1 before the season ends. Keep in mind I'm solo que, do no bail out from my friends flashlight.

I play Solo Survivor and I don't run DS at all, zero, nada, etc. I'm currently a Rank-4 Survivor (lowest I've managed so far). I don't run DS because I don't think it is a good Perk, not because I think it cheats the Killer. Running with DS is like running with NOED, i.e. you are one Perk down the entire match unless you get tunneled. Even if you do get tunneled, the Killer might just slug you and count (what I do as a Killer) or take the stun if early in the match and get rid of it and still run you down (what I also sometimes do). Only inexperienced Killers let DS screw them over in the last third of the match. As long as the Killer absorbs it early, doesn't tunnel, or simply knows how to be patient, he/she can shut down ALL value that Perk provides with no real problem. In short, I've never gotten a good return on that Perk, so I don't run it.

So, I've managed to break into the Red Ranks without it, barely. I haven't found I spend anymore time being tunneled because of it.

  • I think the title of this thread was ill-advised. There are Players here that have been here from the start who have a far superior perspective on such things. It would have been better to title this thread, "I'm Frustrated Playing Killer and Not Having Fun Anymore". That would have been accurate for the OP and kept the discussion zeroed in on the matter at hand.

I'm a relative newcomer. While I did play this game briefly (and I mean VERY briefly) back when it first came out, I don't consider that to have counted. When it first came out I tried it and didn't like it. It wasn't there yet for me. I only came back toward the end of last year and was really impressed and have been having a ball. I play Killer and Survivor, and if I wasn't having fun, I wouldn't be here anymore. There are too many games to waste the recreation time I have on one I don't have fun with. Does that make sense?

All that being said, there are trends that I consider troubling. Matchmaking has been an issue since I came back and starting playing. I started right before the first release of MMR into the wild, suffered through it, and have been playing here ever since. The implied return of it, replacing Rank entirely (supposedly) doesn't thrill me. There are no good reasons not to explain to us how it works, what it measures, and if we will be able to see our own ratings. So far, that information is not forthcoming. I hope they correct that. I hope with Rank becoming just a rewards system (underfunded in BP if you ask me), that a Leaderboard will go up somewhere so we can see where we stand overall. Shallow people like me like those kinds of things. There has clearly been a drop in the Killer to Survivor ratio, which has been increasing Ques in some regions and time periods significantly. Likewise, I still think Solo and Team need their own Ques, and that trying to balance the SWF's 5th Perk (Comms) with Perks is a bad idea because of how it hits the Solo Players. There, my little digression is done.

We are in the wild west right now. I think MMR is already in motion and they just haven't told us yet. The matches I've been getting over the last week or so look EXACTLY like the weird matchups I was getting when they turned on MMR last time. In short, it is all random or it might as well be random because the MMR doesn't work. I suspect, due to the Que issues, we will simply be getting what amounts to a 1st in is 1st out matchmaking system. I think they are pretty much doing that right now. It really isn't any worse (and certainly no better) that what was happening before. I think the long term health of this game is going to center on whether they can get good matchmaking or not.

Anyone else thought it was funny that when the new survior anmations were revealed the devs went out of their way to show that T-Bagging would still work. Then proceeded to show a video of it, it really is odd? Don't know any other kinda devs that would do that

I suspect it was a joke, but let's be honest, it was an ill-considered one.

  • @chieften333 said:

If MMR actually works this time ( don't count on it ), then you'll have to wait another three weeks.

What do you mean? That is EXACTLY what MMR looks like when they turned it on last time. Judging by the matches I've seen today, they turned it back on already and just haven't announced it.

Uh... this thread is from January 2020. It's a year old. Some of this doesn't apply to a year ago, especially not the stuff that started "after last month's update."

Yeah, holy necro, not sure why someone resurrected this.

I assume the guy who brought it back was simply reacting to the current Ques to get a Killer. :)

  • I think speeding up his reload is good. I remain unconvinced that the new tonic will make him "awesome" since in theory you want to gas the Survivors and juice yourself, and the timing of that is going to a difficult skill and work to master. I think he has the potential to be potent, but will have a learning curve even more pronounced than the Nurse to get right.

  • You can't force people to be good sports. Sadly, it is either something they have learned, or haven't. The best way to reduce bad sportsmanship, i.e. the salt shown after a match is:

    1. Don't pulled into it, or sucked into defending yourself.
    2. Don't engage in it yourself. Ignore it, be over the top friendly, or seem to enjoy it.
    3. If you are a Survivor and another Survivor does it, report them, stand up to it. Be an example.
    4. And for everyone, if it crosses the line, record it and report it no matter how tedious Behavior has made the process.
  • And for the record, I don't dodge Lobbies unless I see someone in it that is already on my Black List. You get on my list by using hacks or lag spikes. You can get on it by being someone who disconnects (not suicide on the hook) in a game with me when it is clearly a rage quit or to help some member of your SWF get the hatch. And finally, if I see people who were particularly vile in end game chatter with me, i.e. threats, misogyny, hate speech, and so on, I might take a pass. It is a tedious process to report someone, and I do it every time. Someone I know behaves like a pain in the butt doesn't deserve my time, nor do I want to have to waste it on reporting them again and again.

I'm happy to report that my Black List is rather reasonable in size. I run into far more nice, honest Players than bad. But these are the reasons I will take a pass on a particular group. If you have a scummy person among your ranks as a SWF, I suggest dumping them. There are a quite a few of us that make lists, and quite a few of us share them on the back end.

  • There is no telling why they do this or that. They fix things nobody was asking for (and arguably didn't need a fix) and ignore things which people have been screaming about for years. I try not to worry about it too much. It is THEIR game, we just play it. I take control of the things I can control and deal with the in-game obstacles best I can. I make the odd suggestion over here, and comment on things I find concerning (like the change in Rank and MMR soon) but in the end I will adapt and play on, or if not having fun... move on. That is all any of us can do.

If I were to guess, based entirely on the limited evidence I've seen, this game is a vanity project that exploded and became surprisingly successful. To me it feels like a game that the Developers do play off and on, but largely they have their hands full also with the other games and projects this company is working on. They take very little feedback seriously, and make changes based entirely on their own, limited in house game play. Since they are NOT racking up thousands of regular hours in this game, they don't have the same experience we have.

Moreover, they suffer from the disdain all artists and businesses do as time goes on. They don't like us. Make no mistake, they do not see us as a family, a community, or any of that nonsense. They are a business and we are customers, and noisy customers are an inconvenience. Customers who demand things (even if justified) will only sound entitled to them. This is because for every one customer who asks for, suggests something, or deserves something validly, there are a thousand undeserving YELLING their suggestions and making their demands. They tune us all out; can you blame them? This is not a condition unique to Behavior; most companies that deal with regular feedback and input from their "fans" get the same burnout. They do not like us; they are required to pretend they do.

    Yeah... “supposedly”

we’re all a bit dubious tho, at this point

My problem with what has been inferred so far is that it seems to be less about matchmaking and more about making sure we can't check their work or call them out on doing an poor job of it. It has been implied (although they may prove me wrong and show the metrics that count and how they are measured) that we won't know how MMR works to keep anyone from trying to "game" the system. That is nonsense. All anyone has to do to game the system, whether they know what metrics are tracked or not, is throw games. It is as simple as that. So their implied reasoning for keeping secrets is a miscalculation at best, and a falsehood at worst.

There is no good reason not to tell us the metrics MMR is using and how it works other than to obfuscate the process so we can't say, "it isn't working." We will just have to have faith, and chalk that curb stomping we gave or received to us just playing well. Surely those people should have been playing us, the MMR said so. Rank means nothing soon, since there will be Red Rank Potatoes just as their will be Red Rank Sharks. Do you follow?

I'm not a tinfoil hat kind of guy, who spouts conspiracies, nor am I a guy that is negative on Behavior. They have treated me well in all our interactions and overall I enjoy the game. That doesn't mean I won't call out something sketchy when I see it. They need to elucidate us on how MMR works, what it measures, and when it is set in motion. If they won't, they need to give us a good reason why they can't. Saying people will sandbag if they know the metrics doesn't cut the mustard; as I've already pointed out all one has to do to sandbag one's rating is choose to lose games.

  • The thing is when the new MMR system starts and Rank is divested from it, you will have no idea if you were fighting someone with 1K+ hours or a hundred other than how you think they played in comparison to you. That's the unfortunate thing about where we are headed. You have to ASSUME everyone is in your weight class. So yes, people are going to think you are bullying them if the MMR either doesn't REALLY exist or doesn't work.

  • @Xyvielia said:

first... killer matches are quicker in the evening and longer in the day where I live. Many players SWF after work, more players work during the day

second... same here; as far as ranks go of players I’m getting lobbied up with

MMR is currently (as you are playing each match, now) collecting data in-game skill data for when it’s implemented in the future (devs say “soon”) so players will be matched with other players of the same skill set.

Right now, players are matched with other players of similar Rank. When similar ranks are not available in a certain time frame, the system sends in the next highest rank to the lobby.

Looking forward to a fully operational, properly functioning MMR

Supposedly MMR is doing all that. Consider me dubious.

  • Opinions vary. The most commons ones are:

    1. There isn't really a matchmaking system, period.
    2. There are too many variables, some of which make no sense of matchmaking.
    3. Behavior favors faster Que times over good matchmaking.

Most likely both two and three are currently accurate. I think shortly one will be accurate.

  • I don't care about the sexual preferences of fictional video game characters. As far as I'm concerned, why even address it? That way each individual Player can simply apply the preference they prefer to them in their minds. For that matter, why are we even talking about this? There are tons of threads that make no sense to me:

    1. Which Killer do you think is hot?
    2. Which Killer and Survivor would make a good couple?
    3. Screw, Marry, Kill who?

And on and on it goes? Seriously, how many of you are here to play the damn game and how many of you are here to get inspiration for weird fan fiction? These are cartoon characters, and you can apply whatever interior motivations, dreams, preferences, etc. you want to them. Go wild; have a ball.

  • Lobby Dodging could fixed instantly simply by not allowing any Player a peek at the other pre-game. What is more, there shouldn't be any reveal of what Offerings have been made either. Nobody needs a sneak peek at anything. They can find out in the game. I want to stress again, however, that the long ques have nothing to do with dodging and everything to do with there not being the required ratio of Killers to Survivors currently.

  • @RaginRendon said:

What is the best way you think the devs can go about this?

Split the Ques up. There is no way to mix and match them in the same game and close the gap. Any power or Perk added to offset SWF 5th Perk (Comms) will always hit the Solo players far harder. Moreover, 3-Person SWF will always value their friends over the "Red Shirt" thrown in with them. No matter how much animations and basic communication is added to the game, it will never match the power of:

"I've got eyes on him, he is moving towards Mother's Dwelling and setting a trap outside the window."

"I'm looping the Oni away from the Generator in the Hatch, it is almost done... and there is a lit Totem in there."

You get the idea. SWF CAN provide each other with more information than any combination of Perks in the game. The only way to bring Solo up is by breaking them into two Ques and balancing SWF with additional in game objectives and perhaps an extra Perk unlocked for the Killer that faces them. Then the Perks which were strangling Solos in an effort to balance SWF could be revisited. In short, Perks are a terrible way to try and balance these two different groups.

  • @Junylar said:

Is it even possible to escape for both survivors in this situation if the killer is not a potato? What about 2 or more gens? If the killer finds and hooks one, and the other comes for the unhook, now the killer knows where both survivors are and it's an ez 4k for him. So whenever that happens, I just start looking for the hatch and wait for the other guy to die, as it's the only chance to escape. Whenever I try to go for the save or the other guy unhooks me in this situation, it always ends with 4k. Whenever I (or the other survivor) attempt to do gens, I (he) end up dead while the other one escapes through the hatch. So is there any other counterplay to this besides the hatch game?

If there isn't, what's the point in having this situation in the game? If both survivors know how it works and no one wants to sacrifice himself for the teammate, both of them will start hiding and waiting for the hatch. It will last forever if they are both good at hiding, and the killer will cry and complain about "keeping game hostage", but it's the only rational strategy for both survivors remaining in the trial: wait for the hatch, as the hatch is now the only chance to escape. It's absurd to call the only rational strategy in the situation a "bannable offense".

It is possible, sure. I've done it. It depends on a lot of factors:

    1. Did you suddenly end up as two Survivors due to an average to bad Killer catching a lucky snowball?
    2. Are the remaining Generators totally dead, or have they already been started at least.
    3. Is the person there with you competent.
    4. Are you looking at a 3 Gen situation?
    5. Is the Killer wisely and methodically patrolling the Generators like a fiend?
    6. Are you Solo or are you SWF? And regardless, do you have good coordination with the other person?

There are other questions too but they weigh less. Two people left can absolutely get out with 1-2 Generators still required as long as you didn't 3-Gen yourselves and you are competent. I am in this situation at least a couple of times a week, and I'm proud to say I get out at least half the time.

  • @Carlosylu said:

I thought queue times were fixed the day of the update, but yesterday it all went back, 10+ mins waiting as survivor and less than 1 min for killer.

As a Rank 1 killer and Rank 2 survivor I politely ask you NOT TO LOBBY DODGE, you need to learn to play against everyone, and don't come to me with your:

"WoUlDn'T yOu dOdGe A LoBbY whErE...?"

The answer is NO, I don't dodge lobbies, the only justifiable reasons to lobby dodge is Ping and knowing a guy in the game that you have played against and you know he is a toxic player or a DCer, any other reasons are just lame excuses...

In game DCing is another issue, don't get lost from the thread please... Not getting a good map, matchmaking problems and bugs are not part of this thread.

    Edit:

I'm not trying to force people not to dodge, I'm just politely asking for people to avoid as much as they can lobby dodging, people dodge out of the dumbest things nowdays like "I don't like facing Davids" or "Matchmaking is broken, if I see 2 toolboxes they must be red ranks". I'm not talking about in game DCing, but about actual lobby dodging, it's not wrong to dodge a lobby every now and then, but not 5/6 games until you get to play aginst no SWF Dwights with no items, hehehe. Get my point?

The long delay for Killers isn't due to people dodging. It is due to there being a disparity in the healthy ratio of Killers to Survivors in your region. This has been going on for a couple of weeks now; it started after last month's update and they have been creeping up ever since.

  • @JPLongstreet said:

A public listing of the best survs and finest teams?

    So, a killer dodge list?

Possibly, but for the record, the people who would dodge my name simply because they know I'm on the Leaderboard aren't the kind of people I would be interested in playing anyway. In short, they have decided they simply aren't up to par and taken themselves out of the running. I'm not going to begrudge them that. Besides, you don't get to know who the Killer is until the end of the match. I kind of think it should be the same for Survivor.

Of course its driven by pips and someone can rank up in 10 hours after reset but a new player can also reach it if they played a lot longer in a month or two. Rank pits 5kh players versus 100h players very easily. It has and always will be a metric of time bar the ones who can 2 pip but since it doesn't show anything to separate players skill level its not something which can be used to determine it.

The goal to rank 1 will still be there so nothing in that respect changes and if anything it will take longer since it resets to rank 20 now. The mmr will take over who you are matched with. You will still have that personal goal without a list of I am one of the better players mentality see this link below being used in discussions.

I never said any argument would hold more weight just that players would use it. You did mention yourself they might well be more valid so technically you just proved that point.

I wasn't disputing that point. I merely explained that the weight people give someone's arguments is often affected by the credentials said person has, and I don't think that is a bad thing.

  • @twistedmonkey said:

To be fair rank has always been a metric of how much you can play in a month and why there are major skill disparities in all ranks.

The only issue I see with such a leader board is how players would use it to make their arguments more valid than others.

Yes, and no. Rank is earned by Pips but when you are good enough you can Pip or double Pip rather rapidly and you might not play near as much as people assume. For me, Rank was important because I wanted to make sure I was fighting other Red Rank (or Purple at least) as often as possible. That will no longer be the case. I wanted to have something to measure myself against. Do you follow? I wanted to aspire to something.

In regards to the rare people whose names might make this Leaderboard, their arguments don't have anymore weight than people choose to give them. And, for what it is worth, if the standards to become a superstar are stringent, their arguments might well be more valid than others. I don't go to a Doctor, a Plumber, or an Electrician that I don't think has the time and work put into their credentials. Do you follow? I do give the commentary of Otz more weight than I do some nameless, faceless voice who chimes in here. Why? Well, someone who can win 50 straight games in a row with most Killers probably does have more understanding of the game than those who cannot.

But, all that said and done, a High Score or Leaderboard is important to people like me (shallow or not) and there are a lot of people like me. I don't care about BP. I don't care about Rank if it doesn't mean anything. All I care about is being sure I'm playing against people who are going to challenge me. If the new matchmaking system works, I don't have to grind to get that. I won't bother getting out of bed for 250K. :) So, if I get automatic matches at my level, and I don't care about points, what drives me to play a LOT? And remember, this game needs people to be playing a lot because there are no Bots. If I can get the fun games I want without the grind, I will play for the fun but I won't be driven to do more than that. The prideful side of me will know there is nothing I can do to strut. As I'm always polite in my end game chatter, I believe in being humble in victory and gracious in defeat, I need that Leaderboard as a way to toot my own horn in a good sportsmanship kind of way. Without it, fun is nice and I will play the odd match but I won't be here near as often. I know myself and what drives me. I suspect there are other people driven by the same pride.

  • It is fine because it balances itself in time. Squatting (how I differentiate this type of camping) is not a productive Killer tactic, except in the rarest of occasions. There is no reason to do it unless the gates are already open and you have no idea where the other Survivors are and your only hope of getting a Kill (or perhaps more) is the bait you have on the hook in front of you. That is it. Nine times out of ten it is a poor tactic, and bites Killers on the butt once Survivors know the basics of 1+1=2 and powering up Generators and getting out leads to a Killer getting a 1K at best.

Let me be crystal clear; I know it isn't fun for the Killer to squat on you like a toad, but that is going to happen from time to time. If you are playing Survivor you are part of the 4v1 experience, and you might as well consider yourself to be doing something valuable for your team. You are wasting the Killer's time just as much as if you were looping him/her around the entire map while your buddies did Generators. We all have to do our time on that hook now and then; accept it and you will be less tilted by it.

Squatters become less common as Killers improve. Some of them will transition into Lurkers (those who camp hidden right nearby using terrain and Perks) and some of them will become proper Campers who know how to do short patrols or how to proxy camp while still maintaining Gen-Pressure. Many will simply learn that hooking you and moving on to keep up Generator pressure is a better strategy overall at the start and even mid-game because they WANT you to get unhooked so they can hook you again. The simple truth is Killers do not do well if their prey all die on the first hook.

In short, this is a self-correcting problem. The reason we NEVER stop hearing the whining and complaining is because there is always a new crop of Survivors and Killers going through the teething stage and experiencing it at the most painful point. It shall pass. You will go on to whine and complain about tunneling in due time, and slugging... and eventually everything all at once. Or, you can just be adult about it and play the game, dealing with things as they come.

  • I don't get out of bed for 250K. And since Rank will be literally meaningless beyond telling people how often I play in a month, why would I care? I can earn that many points in a few matches. Do you see my point? The reward would have to be a whole lot higher to make me bother grinding for that.

I'm always straightforward and very literal. If Rank is only to measure a paltry BP reward and announce "this guys plays all the time" I'm not bothering with it. I'll still play the game, but probably a lot less. The only reason I fought for Rank-1 was personal accomplishment, to see if I could do it. I wanted to make sure I was fighting the best other players. The upcoming Rank system has nothing to do with that. Do you see my point?

If they REALLY have another matchmaking system that bases correctly on skill, I can get that simply by logging in and playing a handful of games here and there. I'm being honest, that I'm going to play less. If they are matching me with the right people, then I don't have to grind to get what I want. Previously, I had to maintain my Rank-1 status to make sure I was always fighting Reds or Purples at least. In theory, if the inferred system exists, I will be fighting said people already without the necessity of a grind.

What I'm pointing out is an unintended consequence of the upcoming change. It won't increase play. For a certain percentage of players (like me) it will decrease our play. We will still be having fun with the game, but the reasons for our play will change. To me, shallow as it may sound, it was important that at the end of the game people saw a Red Rank. My favorite sin has always been pride; I know I'm not alone in that. Now when we see that Red Rank at the end we just know this person fought the grind against their level of peers. So that might just be a Red Rank potato; in fact, it probably is a Red Rank potato because there are far more of them than otherwise.

I've made a suggestion that they consider a High Score or Leaderboard to at least put something up there for shallow people like myself to aspire toward, something that will keep me playing more often to fight for a difficult goal, but I've no idea if they will understand it is important to people with my mindset. After the change happens, if there is no way to measure myself against my peers, I will play from time to time for the fun of the game, but I honestly won't play near as often. I won't need to do so. So as I stated at the start to this little digression, I don't get out of bed for 250K. If they do it as a flat reward it would have to be a LOT hirer. Or, as many people here have made good suggestions, have Rank be an amplifier of BP earned in matches. That is progressive.

  • Tombstone Piece is fine as it is and hadn't tilted the game so far. It has been around a long time. You are just having an emotional reaction. However, I did suggest the following change to it:

    Tombstone Piece:

It unlocks the ability to do a 1st Mori after three hooks, and and additional Mori for every hook after that. It no longer requires Tier-3 and is thus functional for any type of Myers Build. The Mori function exactly as the do now, which means they can be done on the run if Myers can get close enough.

That’s literally what MMR is trying to do though...

but they don’t change the whole emblem system with this and let the old ranks like they are.

Are they though? Are they really trying to do that? :) We don't know what they are doing, if anything.

  • @NoOneKnowsNova said:

Would you rather they rush it or take time to come up with what they find a balanced solution?

No. I'd rather they do exactly what they did to the Mori. The key will not open the hatch until the last Generator, and only one person can get out.

Don't be so pessimistic about it. I have almost 2k hours and played Nurse last time... somewhere around 1,5k hours ago. I got bullied fast and then forgot about this killer. BUT NOW I will be placed with potatoes AND in 20-th rank, so adept Nurse should be ezpz xD Who knows, maybe I even learn how to play Nurse properly.

You would be IF they actually are trying an actually ranking system based on Skill (and have linked it to individual Killers). Pessimism and pragmatism are kissing cousins. We have no evidence whatsoever that they are even capable of producing a working matchmaking system. What we do have, however, is example after example of them taking the path of least code resistance when making changes. That would mean the new ranking system is NO ranking system, i.e. the wild west. You will be matched with 1st in and 1st out. That won't be any worse than it is now, and certainly no better. What they have done is removed any ability for us to know what is being done.

So either we will suddenly find ourselves in even matches and know I'm wrong (I hope to be wrong) or not.

  • I don't know why anyone ever thought this was anything but a NERF to Trapper. The slight reduction in the odds of escaping in the 1st attempt do NOT offset the massive increase in the chance of escaping in every subsequent try. That is kind of laughable. Trapper WAS going to be my next Killer, that I play exclusively until I can compete to Rank-1.... but....

Rank is now meaningless except for free BP that I can earn myself; I earn that much in the average day's play. So, I think Trapper will just have to wait until they actually do something for him. I find it hilarious that the Killer everyone says needed a rework and some help, gets hit with what is clearly net loss to his power.

I’m a little confused why the monthly new rank rewards only gives 250,000 a month for what seems like a ridiculously long grind.

It’s easily achievable to earn 90k a game as the killer with BBQ and a survivor pudding.

Extra bloodpoints are always appreciated, the math just seems to be way off with this one!

Agreed. I don't get out of bed for 250K. :)

  • New UI looks too busy to me. I prefer it a bit less intrusive. I'd rather the faces be just put in the old UI location, shrunk down there. I like the Hook counters; all good there. I just don't like flooding my screen with even more stuff to take me out of the game.

  • Hrm. I kind of think their matchmaking is so bad now (and when they tried MMR) that it hardly matters. I think the new matchmaking will be zero matchmaking, i.e. first one in is first one out. With Rank meaning literally "nothing," there is zero reason to believe that they have come up with any better system. What they have done is simply created a situation where we can't check their math and know if there is or isn't a system. Do you see my point? And at this juncture do we really care?

have made this post so that way the mods will see this and hopefully show it to some dev's as much as I want to put this in feed back I want everyone to see this

Now please say what you think about the past changes and updates

What things you think are busted and ideas to refreshed them

And please everyone is entitled to an opinion so dont start riots or insults but you also can't be silent

(Dont worry survivor mains i will be making a thread for you too same title with surivor mains)

(And if a mod or dev dose see this please don't instantly move this to feed back ik there will be possibly useful feedback but if it gets moved to feed back many people won't see this)

Speaking up here won't do diddly squat. If you want them to hear you, vote with your wallet. The drop in the number of Killers is the result of some voting with their wallets, the normal cycle of drop of DbD, and a lot of Killers just playing Survivor. It suffices to say that the endless noise is not unlike crying wolf, nobody listens to anything here. So again, if you want to get their attention, you (and many like you) would have to vote with your wallets and just take an extended break all at once.

bring on all the hate and nasty comments because toxic

can we make facecamping bannable 2 many killers do it. i just saw trapper on console rank 10 do it to 2 people and wouldn't chase anyone near him. it should be bannable because its not participating in gameplay

Sure, but then we would have to make it against the rules for Survivors to return to the same Generator the moment they fail a skill check or get run off a Generator. No camping Generators! You must go to a new one. :)

I can bet that in a month or two after this changes this forum will be full of "why so many spirit and freddy players????????"

Exactly. That combo was good for some slower, M1 Killers to make them competitive, not to carry weak Killers. Now a lot of those Killers will simply gravitate back to the strongest Killers. Unintended consequences are always fun.

    And there is a big difference between a 4 escapes and a 2K/2E and a 4k/1gen left.

And no a 4k with 1 gen left is not a close match that snowballed at the end as you didn't have the 4k when 1 gen was left. In most of the case you will get the 2 first kills when 2 to 3 gens are left, then the 2 last kills when there is 1 gen left --> This is not a close match, it's a game where the killer has been dominating from the start, in chase, kills and map control.

If the killer has the 1st kill when there is 3-2 gens left with some hooks on other survivors and then get the 2nd kill when there is 0-1 gen left, this is a close match. He can even get the 3rd kill during the end game phase.

But the game is not linear.

There are 3 phases in the game :

    • 5 gens left, 8 gens on map --> map control is hard, killer has to apply pressure but survivors have the advantage
    • 2/3 gens left --> if the pressure was good enough during the first phase, the map control is easier as the area to cover must be smaller
    • 1 gen left --> 3 gens situation, killer has the advantage if he had a good strategy in phase 1 & 2

So most of the kills must be done during phase 3 & 2. Phase 1 is a "preparation" phase (hooking surv).

So around 1 gen left, 2 to 3 survivors must be alive.

During the ending phase 1 more can be killed and it's a balanced game.

I don't think i need a statistics course, i surely did more maths than you when i was in high school. Statistics are not made with 1 single match, exactly and end of 2020 statistics have shown a 70% kill rate in red rank, meaning that the average kills were almost 3 while it should be around 2 (50%). We don't know the standard deviation but from what i have seen as a soloQ survivor, i don't think it's too big.

The good metrics to evaluate balance is already in the game, to calculate the points you have done in a game, there are many metrics used. Divide the points earned by the lenght of the game, you then get a score/min.

    Higher score/min = higher skill.

Meh. I'm not going to try to explain this to you. Why? You will refuse to accept any answer other than your own. :) Facts are things for other people. Another reason is that I don't care. I'm going to 4K you regardless. :) I don't truly believe there is a working MMR system that is going to use any metric we are discussing. I think it will, once they divest it from Rank, be entirely random, i.e. 1st one in is 1st one out. With no information, we can't check their math. It is win/win for the company.

In short, you will be just be playing with whatever Killer came up next in the rotation. You might get Otz followed by a potato.

  • @Flawless_ said:

We all knew that combo was busted and I for one I'm extremely glad people will actually have to use some degree of skill in order to get wins rather than just pick a high mobility killer and get hooks while being on crutches.

I just laughed myself silly. You should be careful what you wish for.

The way you are thinking is flawed.

Killer main objective is to kill. So a close match is 50% kills.

Survivors's main objective is to escape. A close match is 50% escapes.

    Period.

Using your logic (but you will tell me i'm wrong again), why do you evaluate the survivor's performance with gens done and the killer's performance with kills ? Evaluate the killer's performance with numbers of hooks he has made, same logic you have for the survivors.

And then here is your logic :

    • 4 escapes with 8 hooks is a close game

It isn't flawed in the least. This game tends to snowball, and surely you have heard of the BELL CURVE? Statistics are not based on a singular match. They are based on a huge sample of matches. The Bell Curve, if balance is where the DEV want it, will end up with an average of (2) escapes per match. I can't believe I'm having to explain Statistics 101.

To achieve good matchmaking you need to be measuring the actual skills of the combatants, and there is a MONUMENTAL difference between 4K with 0-1 Generators left and a 4K with 4-5 Generators left. One is a damn close match that snowballed at the end. The other was a curb stomping. Surely you can see that?

So many of you miss the forest for the trees. An individual match is a TREE. All of the matches in a given interval are the forest. Matchmaking is done at the TREE level. Statistics are done at the FOREST level. Are you understanding what I'm explaining?

  • @maderr said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/217899/kill-rate-is-not-a-good-metric-for-balance

    • If the killer gets a 4K but there was only 1 generator left, its actually a very close match.

Lol no it isn't. A 2K/2E is a close match.

A killer getting 4K is an easy win even if there were 1 gen left. Killer is not supposed to kill the 4 survivors.

4 Survivors escaping is an easy win also.

Ummm, no. Your logic is flawed to the point that I can't even explain to you why it is flawed. The person you responded to is quite correct in pointing out that a 4K with 0-1 Gens left is a HUGE difference from a 4K with 4-5 Gens left. The fact you won't concede that point is troubling.

  • Hardly anyone is talking about removing SWF. Most people understand that is counter productive and impossible. What most of us are asking for is:

    1. Notification we are facing or faced a SWF
    2. Some kind of balancing of the SWF's 5th Perk (Comms)

That's it. I don't care if someone wants to play with their friends. We just don't think they deserve a competitive edge over Solo.

  • I think we will see a LOT more Legion between this change and the Iron Maiden one.

  • I rarely put on a tinfoil hat and spout conspiracies, but I'm not certain there is an MMR system at all. This change simply covers that up and without them telling us HOW it works, they could simply match us with 1st in 1st out, and we would never know the difference. We have no idea if the person was in our weight class or not. Do you see what I mean? That is why I think it is very important that they tell us HOW we are measured and matched against one another.

  • @The_Bootie_Gorgon said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/217821/how-does-the-new-mmr-work

They will not tell us as they don't want ppl to game the system, they want you to continue playing how you play.

Yes, but at this point I don't believe there is an MMR system. I think it will be first one in is first one out. And since Rank has nothing to do with it, we won't know if there is a system. :) I'm not looking to game anything. I want to know that every match, EVERY SINGLE ONE, will be against people with statistics in my range. However, I'm skeptical that there is any system at all.

I think this is just a good way to cover there not being a system, so they can just match 1st in 1st out to speed up the Que and we have no way of knowing. That feels sketchy to me. I think we deserve to know how they are matching us.

  • Well we HOPE Players will be matched against those with equal skill. We still don't REALLY know how MMR works. I would like the DEV to release the info on what it measures and how it will be matching people.

Yeah, I only play a few evenings a week.

After a year of DBD I can steadily reach red ranks every month.

But now, by resetting to 20 monthly, I will probably be looking at getting to 14 if I'm lucky.

I wonder why devs decided to reset all the way back to 20 instead of keeping at least milestones where we can hit, and stay at?

Because Rank is now distinct from matchmaking. :) If they are going to award big points for being Rank-1 everyone has to start at the same starting point.

  • @SombrLuna said:

I personally don't like this change... Now most games are gonna be dead since there are players who are more skilled in the same as unskilled. Red rank killers having more advantage in matches making it even more difficult for survivors to grind or rank up.

Not exactly no. If they did what I think they did, the matching is going to be Skill based, i.e. they are pulling statistics on the Players and matching them with the Statistics on the Killer. This means the match up will be more precise. The people who will suffer in these matches are those attempting to Smurf because in this kind of match up, mixing weak players with strong will favor the Killer.

Regardless, Rank has nothing whatsoever to do with who you fight. So Potatoes should be fighting potatoes.

  • @Gerneral_Buckness said:

One question: if the new rank reset will take me back to 20 every month, will it be easier / faster to move up towards rank 1 now?

No. It will be HARDER. Rank will no longer have anything to do with matchmaking. It means they have found other things to compare, and more than likely you will be fighting in your own weight class every game.
