I guess you missed the "B" in LGBTQ. Just because someone is in a relationship with someone of the opposite sex does not mean they are heterosexual.

I can guarantee you that Orion did not miss the B part of the LGBTQ+ community XD

So I am assuming that you think kids can make decisions for themselves then? It is actually more problematic and we are already seeing it. Violence in video games is not a problem for normal kids, only those that have already had problems in their childhood, and this is proven.

I haven’t said that at all. This game is for adults and children should not play it. There are parents involved after all.

i am saying however that children can easily handle the existence of LGBTQ+. Many children at growing up with people that are LGBTQ+ in their close environment and don’t evolve any problems out of that. And yeah that is proven as well, even for children with parents who are LGBTQ+.

i don’t know why you would say it would be problematic??

So, since you seem to be one of the few reasonable ones I am seeing here I am gonna explain why we might not get a LGBT character and It simply comes down to this.

The game is in China including the mobile one If I recall. And the Chinese are "strong" about there distaste for well, LGBT and anything connected. I am confused how a game with ghost and other things can be in China so I assume a lot censorship is involved.

So,I can assume that is really one of the main reasons.

I would also debate If this game came out like in 2010 or 1999 before everyone had went into a full blown madhouse of RedVsBlue having a gay character would be seen as "fine" or even "cool" or actually progressive..But, now do to the fact that is anyone talks about now in days It would be more shocked to see a devout catholic in DBD then someone from LGBT. But,hell for all I know Ace could be bi and a Catholic. I would never know.

Truth be told outside of nationallity we only know a handful of info about the surviors and I would argue a lot of the newer surviors are all just "Successful people who are awesome". We need more outcast, failures and loons and less winners.

That China argument (or any other country with such strict limitations) is pretty much the only real argument at this point against LGBTQ+ inclusion.

but BHVR said they want to be inclusive and will add LGBTQ+ to their game and I think they should stick to their word here. It would after all only be some short passages in the lore. I guess China could still censor that?

I still hope they will just mention some LGBTQ+ theme in someone’s backstory or tome without advertising it, btw. That way they prevent accusations of only doing it to please the demands and doing it for PR. (But we all know that the media and community would still make a big deal out of it and still accuse BHVR for it)

also very much agree with that „successful people who are awesome“ trend and I liked characters like Claudette or Jake way more. Even though i also like the direction they are going in with Yun-Jin!

With everything going on in the world right now, I would avoid adding LGBTQ characters to this game. It's not that I don't want an LGBTQ character, you do you that's fine but I know that the other more "caring" LGBTQ people the ones that just look at things for what it is without putting much thought into it will see this game as offensive. I believe there will be too many problems that will occur when adding an LGBTQ character to this game and any other game depending on the style of the game.

I also know that there are some kids that play this game and I STRONGLY believe that they do not need to know about this kind of stuff at a young age from a game. so again, I only see more problems than solutions coming from this.

Kids can handle this just fine. No one is asking for graphical sexuality here, just treating LGBTQ+ the same way heterosexuality is already treated.

actually I think it’s way more problematic if children don’t get to know about LGBTQ+, because this is making them believe it would be something abnormal, which it just isn’t.

also the violence part is definitely something that might cause problems for some children, even though you don’t see any immediate effects.

It almost seems like heterosexuality is the abnormal thing these days. Way too many people consider themselves LGBT just because that's what's popular. Its frustrating.

Maybe the better way to view this would be that both heterosexual and LGBTQ+ people are normal people? And treat them equally instead of trying to find ways how they are distinctive to one another?

why do we need to label some abnormal (which is implying something negative here, even if you didn’t mean to)?

You can't go by leaks. We've been proven wrong before. When PH was coming I was among the masses that thought it was going to be Candyman. The teaser, the picture looked like a hook, a dev tweeted bee in a message. All added credit to Candyman. Then we got PH. Not disappointed but the take away is a lot of people were wrong. Just like a lot of people are wrong now.

I haven’t said anything about any leaks..

and I personally didn’t expect there to be an LGBT+ char.

i still think speculation is fine and can be fun, and as i Said, the threads blew up because of those against inclusion (or not caring)

i guess their feelings are hurt now

incoming ban for not being sensitive to literally everyone in 3..2..1

Most were just speculating and not definitely expecting it though.

And the threads blew up because of those against inclusion.

  • I guess they meant only lore.

because there are already way more scumbags playing survivor and it’s not only Megs and Neas either

  • @EvilJoshy said:

    TL:DR

WTH started all this? What information was given that suggested the newest killer/survivor was LGBTQ? We were given a picture and people just flat out assumed.

The fact that the devs want to add LGBT+ chars and based on implementation time and announcement it would kinda fit plus the colors in the teasers, that have relevance in the trans and/or bi community. and the character model of Yun-Jin was said to have some male features while wearing extravagant female clothes.

  • @danielmaster87 said:

I keep seeing these posts about the pushback against LGBT characters, but I've never seen that pushback myself. Are you sure these people you're talking about even exist?

There is the extreme ones, those get removed.

but there is also those that are saying LGBT+ chars shouldn’t be added because something along the lines of:

    • Sexuality shouldn’t be in videogames/a horror game
    • Adding LGBT+ chars is making the game political
    • The devs are forced to include it/they don’t even care
    • It’s meaningless towards the gameplay
    • You can already make any character what you want them to be in your head
    • Stereotypical/bad representation can be more harmful than exclusion
    • and of course: the devs only want our moneyz

all of this while heterosexual relationships are already present and we knownthe devs do care, want to be inclusive and are aware that it’s a sensitive topic.

  • Why would anyone play any killer over Nurse? Once you learned/mastered her you will be unstoppable and it’s not THAT hard to learn her.

but people have different preferences and playstyles.

i was never able to learn Huntress or even get hits reliably, even after getting her adepts (farmed the long-range ones), i will never touch her again. I just played one match as Trickster, had fun and got multiple hits/downs and 2 kills. And I didn’t even know about Main Event, which could probably have helped.

and no? Not everything in this game is about being a rank 1 killer only going against 4 man sweat-squads. I don’t need to perform good against that.

  • I can pick up Trickster much easier than Huntress and perform way better, because the gameplay actually is different, at least for me.

and with the amount of killers and overall simple gameplay mechanics of the base game there are bound to be similar powers.

  • @Science_Guy said:

That may be true but she was also very much okay with not taking any chance of damaging her career instead of sharing the info or suspicion she had with the police or anyone else. She could have even made that anonymously.

  • Feng Min was probably the most selfish one before her introduction?

Discrimination as the spanish definition say it's "picking to exclude", so if you pick your friends and you don't befriend others, you're picking to exclude them to your friend group, it's discrimination. There's a difference between discrimination and prejudice, someone can discriminate since discrimination is just excluding someone now if you do it because you have a prejudice like a problem just because his skin, sexual orientation (racism and homophobia) then that's when there's a problem. Discriminating is an act so there's no harm done in discrimination but prejudice shows a bad mindset.

Well okay thx for the info, I most certainly didn’t know that.

  • I guess the intention is for combos especially with the perks you just listen. (Except for the Exhaustion perk, that one was btw a perk often described in community perk ideas)

  • @Saitamfed said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1989358#Comment_1989358

Yes, discrimination is... something normal whether some people like it or not. We as humans discriminate all the time, from our tastes to our friends. Perhaps you won't think on befriending someone like me and that's discriminating but you're entitled to that.

I wouldn’t call that discrimination though, choosing who to be friends with doesn’t mean you automatically discriminate those that you actively not befriend. you can still accept and respect them as normal people.

Well, those people need to STFU too. I'm not against someone being LGBT in the game, I just don't see it as a huge deal. People who don't want it just because of hate can go get their leg caught in a trap.

That’s my entire point of view. I never myself have directly asked for that representation nor do I really actually want or need it. I definitely wouldn’t mind it though and would probably love it if the execution was great, just how I like the newly revealed chapter.

i just don’t see why the devs should restrict themselves in their creativity or why exclusion should take place if there is no reason for it.

    Hmm..

I don't know If this will help, but I have a bad analogy for you. If you read this post that is. Obviously this is nothing like sexuality, but please see it from a whole rep standpoint? If I write it well enough..

I have a very obscure, or unused name. I've not really met people with my name, except from secondhand stories about where I got it from.

So, I can never find my name on the little name plaques and badge stands they have at the $2 store - if you know the ones I'm talking about? And while it may not impact me too much, and other people may not care, I would still get a feeling of joy if I finally saw one, I wouldn't forget it.

Everyone else says that it's not necessary, it's just a nametag, no one is called that anyway.. but their names are up there, they'd be able to find theirs if they looked, so they don't know the even just slight disappointment felt when my name can't be found.

Then one day, I browse a store and it has one of those stands. Even though I know it won't be there I spin it around looking at names - and there it Is! My name! It wasn't made specifically for me, but I now feel happy, because my name is no longer odd; I might not see it again for a while but seeing it brings me joy, because I've finally found what fits me, I can finally relate to having my name on one of those little plaques.

Does it affect much? No. Does anyone else care that it's there? No. But I will remember it as the place that finally had my name amongst all the other names there. It's an option for me.

If that makes sense.. it's half baked.. and I'm bad with words. I'm sorry it took so much up, but my point is.. - and obviously the two aren't comparable because identity is much much more than a birth name, but what I'm tryna say I guess?

Is some people don't notice, or don't think it's necessary to add it, but when they've been included all their life it's hard to relate to those who haven't.. an LGBTQIA+ character in dbd isn't going to affect the game gameplay wise, but it brings joy and a feeling of relation to some people who are. And i think making people feel included is a very important thing..

It's not like it's being made a big deal - as in, the characters sexual orientation and gender identity isn't changing anything - so just because you don't notice it and think it's necessary, doesn't mean others will too.

Sorry, this went longer than intended -_-"

You have written it very well and made a very good point!

it’s also a Good analogy because not every person with an outlandish name can relate because of whatever reason, but there are many that do care about finding their names on that stuff.

i guess for younger generations it’s not so easy to understand because of the globalization and internet and all you can personalize it already.. but I could very well relate to it

That just proves my point- It doesn't make a huge difference, so there's no reason to make a big deal about it. Look at the existing male characters for example, do any of the LGBTQ people ever go "Wow, such a good backstory!". No, they go "Omg, I want to see Felix shirtless". "Is Dwight a top or bottom?"

It has nothing to do with representation, people just want a character to sexualise.

As you said yourself, the sexualization is already happening. even for the guy with a confirmed heterosexual marriage.

People seem to be skimming over the part where he's a sadistic serial killer, but are we surprised? I'll admit that I wish his "idol" training was the reason he became what he did, mixed in with his natural mental state. It would have tied in the real life horrors that these kinds of people go through when they do anything to become famous, and it takes a toll on their mental health. I'm sure in the lore, it just says that he trained very hard and succeeded, no further elaboration. From his lore though, he is certainly justified in being in the Entity's realm. I mean come on, what he did to all those people in the end? gruesome AF.

I'm sure he'll get some amazing cosmetics anyway, ones that make him less flashy.

It is kind of implied that his father was at least somewhat at fault i think, That he wanted that his son would get what he never got.

I know that, I've been seeing people call others out for being "homophobic" though. There has been some slurs thrown around but those are the real homophobes, otherwise the people who are just heavily criticizing this chapter as a whole are also being piled on and called homophobes as well. I'm not taking sides here to be fair, I'm only stating that people who say things like "this really doesn't fit DBD" are being called out to be homophobic which can be so silly and ridiculous.

To be fair people tried to accuse me of calling others homophobes while I haven’t done such a thing at all.

it seems to be really trendy to be anti-LGBTQ+ inclusion and calling others out just for being on the pro inclusion side. (Not saying they are actually anti-LGBTQ+ but that they are just going with the crowd that is against the „inclusion everywhere“)

  • Yeah it’s ridiculous that a KPop idol was added as a killer. The fact that he was a sadistic serial killer had probably nothing to with that.

    That is exactly the issue.

We as heterosexuals do not pay attention to the sexualities of the characters. Whether or not they are straight we don't care, we don't pay attention to those things.

There is no update message, nor any promotion about X character is straight, there is the issue.

When LGBTQASIUDASIDAetc characters appear, they make promotions to it, as if it were something special. And that is what catches our attention.

As a developer you want to place gay people or those who are lovers of tofu? That seems perfect to me. But don't promote them as disabled characters.

And something that I always notice in this class of people like you ... they get offended very quickly and take it very personally. I would recommend you change that tone when writing, it only denotes that you are a resentful person.

Sorry you see it that way. I am always writing in a calm manner, but I am not a native English speaker so that may be the reason why some people may assume I would be offended?

Don’t worry about that person. They made wrong assumptions and accusations in almost every post on this thread. And they are unable to admit mistakes whatsoever.

Sexuality has been in games since you ever were able to romance an NPC of the same sex, the difference is that the character defining trait was not his/hers sexuality, aka, forcing something that adds absolutely nothing except being PC. You want representation? OW has representation and no one cares, if a character is good or fun it does not make a difference where they are from, their race or their sexuality, that is the point. If you really want to make a character all about their sexuality then at least make it matter.

That brings us to the "Why?" "Why not?" part. Representation for the sake of representation is a good reason not to define sexuality and leave it to interpretation.

With all the backstory elements already present in the game it does make sense to also include LGBTQ+ topics. It’s not only about direct sex but self-identity, experiences and struggles in life, meaningful relationships etc.

thats why we are at the „why not“ question. It’s most definitely not only about sexuality. And the devs agree.

  • Pretty sure it’s coming today.

the teasers never started more than one week before the PTB,

Hopefully. What time do PTBs usually drop?

    2 hours from now

  • That Monster wouldn’t get anything out of this? I am glad to hear this!

cool concept, though both powers being on a long cooldown seems a little restricted.

maybe there is another way to regenerate the bone stars just like Huntress and her lockers (but not directly the same)?
