I don't understand what's the point of this discussion. So people are offended because some character hasn't a background story that reveals that he or she is gay? What's the point? Does it make Yui more sympatric if she would be a lesbian? Are you more comfortable to play the Trapper if you would know he is gay? Why do you need to know the sexual preference of a character of the game to play it?
What's the goal of this demand?
Equal treatment of LGBTQ+ compared to heterosexuality is the goal.
and the devs have already stated they are for inclusion.
the discussion here is directed for those against inclusion as the title said. But no one has brought up a valid reason why LGBTQ+ should be excluded when there are already multiple confirmed heterosexual relationships present..

@Tsulan said:
Does it really matter if a fictional character has a fictional preference for one gender over another?
Nope, no one said here it really matters.
as stated in OP, just for clarification.
and no, both chars have no confirmed sexuality/identify etc. at all.

Imagine suffering through life with the constant desire to be validated by everything and everyone around you.
I don't even care if a character is gay or anything else but, the constant demand for representation is sad and pathetic.
You dont need a video game character or a movie star to be confident in yourself, grow up.
No one here suffered because there are no LGBTQ+ chars, or said they absolutely need it. (Well, almost no one).
it feels like the ones that want explicit exclusion of anything LGBTQ+ but that are okay with the heterosexuality already in game are the ones that will suffer with the inclusion.
representation doesn’t hurt anyone, really. But it can help many people to see that it is completely normal, that it in fact doesn’t solely define a person etc.

As one who's in the LGBT I do have to say something about this topic everyone is obsessed about.
Do I want LGBT Characters Lorewise in the game?
No, I do not want ANY character's Sexuality to be expressed in their lore. The reason is not what you may wanna hear.
When I play video games Like Overwatch for example, there's 3 ways to add sexual identity. Adding a New Character with that said sexuality. Forcing sexuality into the lore of an already established character. OR letting the community decide on their own accord how they feel that character should be represented.
What do I mean by forced Sexuality?
Forced Sexuality is forcing New Sexuality lore into a character's lore for "Selling more Copies" than explaining the Character. An example of this is the Soldier 76 (From Overwatch) is gay controversy. Most of the OW community felt like Blizzard forced Gayness into the lore to make more sales. Due to the fact sales were getting low then when the news broke out they saw a more increase in sales though Soldier's lore was already established.
What do i mean by Community picked Sexuality?
For this look at Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V or ANYYYYY RPG game that has thousands of fans. Think of it as creating your own lore for the already established character. For example I relate to Claudette due to her Empathy for others and that personal connection allowed me to amend parts of her lore into so she is either: Lesbian or Bisexual, Not Straight or pan etc. (Not that im not against being those) But it allowed me to relate even more to the character by building my own lore for her because it was left open. SO technically you could have made All the men/woman characters Gay, Straight Bi, Pan, Trans etc. to fit how you relate to them.
So how does this relate to why I dont want LGBT or Straight to be defined?
This relates because I want Lore not to be forced or feel forced to produce more sales in either DLC or the game. This also relates because I want everyone to feel included in the game by making their own lore that the devs allowed for interpretation. So telling people OH YOU DONT LIKE HOW HER/HIS LORE SAYS SHES/HES GAYYYYYY!?!? It could be due to homophobia or it could just be the fact we dont need sexuality to be explained in lore. We should make OUR OWN lore based on how we feel that the character might be due to the fact we might relate to the character.
Ending Statement
So Please please don't hate on me for this but IMO Sexuality should be interpreted by the Users not the Developers/Writers.
--Myers
There is just one tiny problem: there is already multiple confirmed heterosexual relationships mentioned in lore. And the devs have the freedom to create the characters with backstories and traits as they please. They said this topic is important for them and they want to be inclusive. And they apologized for being unintentionally exclusive before.
Btw no one asks for every characters sexual orientation/identity/gender to be revealed or explicitly stated. People are just asking for equal treatment. So if the heterosexual relationships were not forced, why would the casual mentioning of a boyfriend in case of a male char be forced?

What an immature response. Once again, I can only come to the conclusion that since I disagree with you, you have to try to dismiss my opinion. But then again, you don’t know the definition of wild card so my bar was set pretty low.
the discussion is literally in this thread, isn’t it?
you almost never answered any direct question, maybe picked one question to answer but ignored the rest. You never admitted that you were not right, even though you were proven to be wrong.
i don’t have any problem with when someone doesn’t agree with me - again an accusation from your side without any grounds.
and I know the definition of a wild card, but we don’t have a wild card in this case. It is not a wildcard just because we don’t know who it is. It’s only seems to be a wildcard from our perspective. But the devs have confirmed it’s not any character, it’s a specific character.

Well, this community really likes to focus on things they can complain about I guess.
i agree, the content on this PTB/chapters seem pretty good, many stuff requested by the community (colorblind mode and DS change), but I haven’t really seen feedback on these
I actually would have liked to try out Blight and Wraith on PTB if the lobby waiting times for killers were not so extremely long. Really wonder if Blights POV has any affect on the bumping
-
I made a suggestion post once where I tried to describe something like this:
spider webs that can be between windows or doors. If a survivor runs through them they make a little scream and get their vision slightly blocked just like all those new overlays (cuts from Trickster, Blood from Deep Wounds etc).
bats at ceilings/trees that get disturbed like crows and may even trigger Spy’s of the shadows. Flying in a swarm down at the surv.
edit: well mine would be more new small gameplay features i guess.. if anyone is interested: click

As with my other item ideas, I have added a quick and dirty icon and rephrased the text a little bit.

As a console player that has played a lot of Deathslinger and huntress the main issue is always being accurate with your "first" shot. Like i can do well with huntress but if i don't play her my sense of aim is off and i have to play multiple matches to remember where to aim.
Deathslinger isn't as bad since you get ADS so he is easier to get used to, i can get a sense of aim as him in under 3 matches.
The trickster will have a fast moving projectile and MANY of them so it won't take you long at all to figure out of to aim and even if you don't you can adjust your aim as you spam his power. The only thing that might cause some trouble is the recoil but it isn't much so to me it seems that you can aim pretty "accurately" (He has some RNG with his shots) in just a few games playing him.
Can confirm as controller player on PC. I do terrible with Huntress and below average as Deathslinger. With Trickster I had only played one game but it was fun and you can adjust, it wasn’t as demotivating

People's sexual orientation isn't political no, but the activism and organizations supposedly representating said people definitely are. And those Orgs create propaganda that absolutely affects how people think and talk about these things in the real world.
Anyways, I'm reluctant to comment much more because the Mods seem to absolutely love closing any threads that have people heatedly discussing their different opinions.
To be fair, there are way too many threads about this and all boil down to the same arguments. I can just imagine what a nightmare it is to moderate those threads.

I imagine it's pretty hard to prove intent, though. It could be mere coincidence that a killer happens to take out a pair of colored or female/male survivors just because they happened to go down easier than others.
In dubio pro reo, I guess.
if they are really doing it intentional they will not be able to not rub it into peoples faces e.g. in the end game chat.

There's also the risk of people getting trolled/tunneled/bullied ingame for picking these type of characters. How would BHVR deal with this type of backlash? Would they ban people who did this kind of thing without necessarily voicing it?
Same way they are now treating those that only target non-white chars, or only female/male chars or tunneling based on names (e.g. tunneling everyone having anything LGBTQ+ related to their name).

There is need for such representation and very few are asking for that.

After reading this entire thread, I have came to a few conclusions. First of all - representation is important, it allows people to feel a sense of belonging and see themselves in their favourite games/TV shows/movies/etc. You may not need it, but a lot of people do so let them have it. LGBTQ+ people just want to be represented in the same way that cisgender straight people are. Someone made a great analogy as to why representation is needed earlier in the thread and if anyone does not understand why it is needed, they should read it:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1989519#Comment_1989519
Secondly, it is a problematic mindset to only say "I don't want this", "I don't care about this" or "don't force it" whenever the LGBTQ+ community is brought up. This is because no one ever complains when a cishet character is present in a game. It is very important to understand that you can be prejudiced without realising - if you don't care about a character's sexuality, don't comment on it, don't say that we don't need it unless you're also going to make threads and posts complaining about the presence of cishet characters because then it seems like you care more about the exclusion of LGBTQ+ characters than presence of any sexualities/genders in the game. Moreover, if you do not care about a LGBTQ+ character being added to the game, why do you feel the need to comment on it? If you don't care, just move on please, this discussion is not for you and may just present you in a negative light when that was not your intention.
Finally, if you do care about the presence of LGBTQ+ characters in the game but not cisgender straight individuals then that is just you being prejudiced.
I'd like to point out that this is not directed towards anyone in particular, it is just the conclusions I have came to and my thoughts and feelings on this after reading the entire thread.
Great summary, great read! Thank you for that

Well if the Devs have stated that, than case closed. People can whine into the void until they tucker themselves out. I think how this stuff is treated online is breeding toxicity and resentment on all sides.
Most people in the western world couldn't care less about people being gay. In the world of video games however, there will always be a loud group of tossers who have problems with anything outside of their basements. These are the same lot that give women a hard time in online Co-ops (I have a female friend who plays and she gets treated pretty crap a lot). There is no changing them, and they will always be there.
On the flipside, there are groups of militant, intolerant Rainbow warriors who find ways to take issue with just about everything. They treat the slightest disagreement or indifference as bigotry. Or dissect the most benign things as "problematic". I find they alienate decent, accepting people by constantly cramming their "activism" down everyone's pie-holes.
Anyways, I have the day off and I supposed I'll play a match or two and see how often I'm face-camped.
Side Thought: Am I the ONLY person who assumed Nea is a lesbian? Everyone I play with (and most of them aren't gay) just assumed that. She has that lesbian-chic style going on about her lol.
Fully agreed.
and about Nea: many people wondered how the friend mentioned in her tome lore wasn’t her girlfriend and that would have been an easy and not unexpected way to include it. I guess she was just not created with it directly in mind and the devs didn’t want add it just to please the crowd but they wanted to stay true to their creations. She doesn’t have any sexual relationship confirmed btw, so everything is open in her case
-
Yes, diverse backstories are very well appreciated.
i especially hope for more heartless female killer backstories, because most of them are actually sad and all. We have that pig lady from the first tome that would be a good candidate for that.

I'm new to the forums. Is there always a zillion threads on "LGBTQ"?
And once again as a gay person, just throwing my voice in to say I couldn't care less if DBD "adds a LGBTQ character". It seems like this is brought up daily, in multiple threads. It's not homophobic, or bigoted to find it irrelevant for a game like this.
Please don't judge us all by the loudest on the internet.
In other games, sure it would be nice to see a gay character sometimes so long as it's done in a natural, organic, non-obnoxious way. But idk, I'm getting concerned more and more that the constant bitching will actually make people more resistant to the addition of non-heterosexual characters in the future.
No usually there are not multiple threads with this topic. But from time to time one person asks for representation or speculates about a new character maybe being LGBT and then it blows up, because of all the people that „don’t care, but ...“, or „no sexuality/politics please“ etc.
it all started with when the devs confirmed they no longer exclude LGBTQ which they have unintentionally done in the past.

"Characters"
That right there is also a problem. A lot of people, not saying you in particular, are wanting a character for every sexuality or niche gender in existence.
That's not realism at all. When do you see the entire LGBTQ spectrum in any area of life outside pride events?
I have never seen a person that requested a character for every sexuality/gender in existence?
all that is asked for is not to exclude anymore.
there are some people asking for a specific character with a specific sexuality, sure, but that’s not different to someone asking for a character that is Indian, or a character that has a specific job or hobby.. no harm there

What about avoid completely any "sexual orientation" reference in particular, and let the people decide it by their own? For example many authors completely avoid to include any reference to any particular existent religion in the real world in their stories, because they don't wanna stand for a side or another, and that's wise. Why instead is a good practice to exploit different "sexual orientations" in movies, tv shows, videogames, even if not exactly explicit, that are actually forbidden in many existent religions, like for example Islam? Isn't discrimination as well considering their beliefs on the topic "wrong"? That's why i consider this mere "propaganda", because there are many logical facts that destroy completely its fundamentals.
That’s fine by me to avoid any sexual orientation. But we are talking about DbD where multiple heterosexual relationships are mentioned in the lore. I am not discussing with you anything further, that would be Off Topic.

pretty much everything you said is wrong.
Elaborate your statement instead of arbitrarily assuming that I am not educated on the subject. If you don't like the truth, not my problem. Someone here said that "being sexually oriented towards a person of the same sex is provided in nature by many examples". True, and i add that nature also provide many and many examples of "discrimination" against the "different ones". I don't hate! I should support the LGBTQ+ movement, because of my sexual orientation, but i'm not, because I recognize the political exploitation of their false rhetoric, that is build on gain power. You don't. That's it.
Also, get off your high horse.
no one ever denied the existence of that part of the LGBTQ+ community or politicians trying to exploit it. That doesn’t give anyone the right to explicitly exclude anything related to LGBTQ+ from everything.

I'm not offended by it. I really do not care or want sexuality to be a part of a game I play. I play a game for the game, not to roleplay the character I'm playing as being myself, and only playing x character because they're x gender. In saying that I also don't care if a character is gay, straight, or an alien that knocks itself up, but I still don't think it belongs in a video game. It's the equivalent of letting me know a character is a Republican to me.
That’s a completely reasonable way to see it.
but since there are already confirmed heterosexual relationships in the lore there is no reason to exclude LGBT+ in the lore. It won’t change your game or the way you play it at all.

adding a character that’s LGBTQ+ is also not a political movement. The devs want to do that. There is no need to force them not to. Or else, that is also a political movement on its own.

Also, a lot of lore for most characters dont say if they are gay or not, use your imagination.

I'm normally one for representation, but personally I find it bizarre how people can be so hung up over things like sexuality in a game that doesn't even have dialogue or meaningful character interactions, never mind romance.
Hell, I don't think the game even implied any kind of real romance between The Legion characters, and they're clearly a bunch of teenagers who don't know how to deal with their raging hormones healthily (I haven't read all their hidden lore tho, but I want no spoilers so just say if I'm wrong and leave it at that).
Is Dwight gay? Maybe, but he's not going to be picking up anyone in the middle of a trial when he can't even say "ouch" when a machete lodges itself in his ribcage. I get that minorities are often starved for the ability to say "oh look, that character is like me!", but does your headcanon really need confirming in this situation?
That being said, I do find that story about people shitting their pants and refusing to playing Soldier 76 in Overwatch to be ######### funny. I love how the same people who like throw around the word "snowflake" tend to be the biggest ######### insecure eggshell princes.
You are wrong with Legion.
also Felix, David, Nurse, Oni. To a lesser extent Ace and Wraith.
people just want equal treatment for LGBTQ+ compared to heterosexual relationships. The devs already confirmed they want to do it as well.

Discrimination is a rhetoric overused by these political movements. Grow strong by yourself, accepting yourself for who you are, regardless what the others think about you, and if you aren't strong enough, well in nature there are many examples of animals that expel the weak by the group... isn't this "discrimination" in nature? So that means that "discrimination" is part of the human nature too? Fine. This is how the world works. The only thing i know, is that you gain more interest if you promote LGBTQ+ content, because you're supported by the movement, and that movement is big and very powerful.

Probably? You said there is proof it did make it worse?
media representation helps to make the complete topic more normal in the eyes of the people. It would help transgender people that realize they are transgender that it is okay to be that way.
and no, this wouldn’t lead to people getting irreversible treatment that they didn’t actually want, that should go a long psychiatric and medical process. If those processes are cut short it has nothing to do with media representation. I have heard about some of those cases. It’s the fault of the parents and doctors. Not the media.

- "Among USTS respondents, suicide thoughts and attempts were more likely to be reported among those of younger ages, Alaskan Native/American Indian or Biracial/Multiracial respondents, transgender men, pansexual respondents, and non-binary respondents assigned female at birth."
- Similar to trends in the U.S. population, we found a higher prevalence across all suicide-related measures among respondents who had lower educational attainment, were unemployed, or had lower annual household income. In terms of relationship status, respondents who were partnered and living together with their partners had the lowest prevalence of suicidal thoughts and attempts.
discrimination is not the only thing leading to suicide.
Okay. I agree that discrimination is not the only factor/risk.

"LGBT" it's like a mark we put on ourselves while we should first understand that "hate" or "not hate", behing sexually oriented is very natural. Period. I'm BI, and my thinking is not affected by hatred, and i don't wanna judge who hate me because of what i do in my bed. It's their problem, not mine. All this promotion is a giant "marketing" operation to state and be "proud" about our "differentiation" from the rest of the specie. We are not. Another period.
Yes. My entire point. LGBTQ+ Is not abnormal or different. So the logical consequence would be to treat that topic the same way heterosexual relationships get treated.
include it in the lore. Don’t use it as an advertisement. Done.
and I am happy to hear you are not affected by their hate. But please only speak for yourself. There are many LGBTQ+ people that are still experiencing hate and discrimination.

Because the data shows it as being problematic if you're not making the right choices.

It says that discrimination may lead to suicidal thoughts and your consequence out of it is to explicitly exclude any mentionings about it?

What i don't get is the PROMOTION of LGBTQ+ content everywhere, like TV shows, videgames, comics etc. etc. You can be whatever you want, but it's shouldn't be everyone business what you are and who you are. I'm not going everywhere saying "hey i'm straight" or "i'm bi". All this insistent promotion of these topics, will bring more hate at the surface.
It won’t bring hate, it will just show the hate that was already present.
you don’t start to hate on LGBT+ people just because you see them represented.
