ya know, i thik DbD is as succesfull as it is because there is no way to "kill the killer".
F13 was an entirely different game with entirely different mechanics - and from what ive seen the killer bullying there was on a whole other level compared to DbDs...
i think such an ability would just end up encouraging toxicity, aswell as buffing SWF groups to be even stronger than they currently are, while solo groups would almost never be able to pull it off.
-
Trapper - yes, have him start with all traps
Wraith - make him faster when invisible (basically a build in windstorm)
Hillbilly - Add On rework
Nurse - bug fixes
Huntress - get rid of her Iridescent Hhead + Infantry Belt combo (i know many want to have a hitbox decrease, but simply by the way the hitboxes work in this game, this wouldnt be possible. i wouldnt mind her hatchet hitboxes actually matching her hatchets playmodel, but the survivors hitbox would have to get reworked to match their playmodel aswell - also most of the BS hits are due to bad latency)
Myers - i like him the way he is
Hag - i dont know tbh. its been months since i last played her, i never really got into her. though i see a lot of stremers do extremely well with her, so i'd say she is fine?
Doctor - give his electrode add ons the old downside of an increased shock therapy charge back. we all saw that monto video and even as someone who mained doc for a long time i think thats broken.
Cannibal - remove the unnecessary slowdowns his power gives him (while charging it up and when cancelling it)
Freddy - make it so you dont passively fall asleep until you've been asleep at least once. i find it to be very strong how just 60 seconds into the trial everyone automatically enters the dreamworls, making them extremely vulnerable without exploring anything (fake pallet wise). i think it'd be better if in order to get them sleepy freddy would have to pull them into his dreamworld first. freddy is just... too good at everything right now imo.
Pig - completely rework her RBTs.
Clown - make his exhaustion add on basekit. i mean, why not? it fits his gases theme and it would greatly help him in chases, something he should be dominating in anyway. also it'd be interesting to see one killer being able to fight exhaustion perks - it would probaply make him quite a bit more popular (also remove all the echaustion add ons on other killers. these are extremely outdated) - and when i made a poll about this, people seemed to like the idea.
Spirit - she is fine imo, but maybe give survivors a way to tell when she is actually phase walking? e.g. allow them to lightburn her double to expose whether she's still there or not.
Legion - slightly reduce the stun after a frenzy - maybe make it so the more people you hit, the less of a stun you will receive, rewarding good usage of the power while not allowing for just a single hit and then profitting from the shorter fatigue.
Plague - an increased BP gain in the Deviousness category sounds great
Ghostface - fine
Demodoggo - finally change his name into Demodoggo and make the footsteps silent while undetectable (so he is "sneaking up" on survivors)
Oni - perfectly fine
Deathslinger - mostly fine, maybe decrese the slowdowns he gets e.g. for reloading? he is lacking map pressure quite a bit after all.
-
no.

You do know there are other ways to hide other than crouching right....
Lockers, behind walls, basement plays, behind trees.
Pyramid Head is basically getting a free tracking already with the Barbed Wires tailing survivors the entire time we're not caught.
you wouldnt be able to hide behind any small or thin obstacle (such as trees or scrap from autohaven), as your cool new glowing effect is going to be taller than your playermodel - aswell as being a lightsource. that literally attracts the eyes of a killer. it would be the same as with old legacys, which would give survivors who were wearing them a huge disadvantage, as they wouldnt be able to hide properly anymore.
and i have seen many people state they wouldnt wear them, just because they would be "hidden like a christmas tree" as many liked to put it.
you can not deny that it would heavily influence the stealth abilities of any survivor wearing this effect.
also pyramid head only gets the tracking on his paths when survivors walk or run through them - plus the effect goes away after being caged / saving someone from a cage.
-
spirit is definitely not easy to play.
it needs awareness of your surroundings and good predictions to play her properly - bad spirits tend to get mindgamed easily by survivors during their phase walks, losing them.
however, in comparison to some other killers out there, she is definitely rather easy to pick up and do well with - you will still need to learn her before you can do well with her, however it takes less time to get good on a spirit than to properly learn and master lets say a Oni or Wraith - at least if you are aiming for similar results.

Thank you man that just made my day, I feel a little better, like thing is I'm just a content creator, I make fan-made chapters share my ideas that it. I didn't ask to go through this, I just wanted to join a community I felt safe in, and I can't do it when crap like this happens to me. I've actually had someone tell me go play roblox ( or something in those following lines.) and acted racist towards me. I didn't report because I didn't know how to. But thx none the less
you're welcome :)
glad i could help you ^^
if you wish to report someone ingame, you can hover your mouse behind their name in the end result chart and click on the thumbs up icon there. this will lead you to a little interface where you are able to eigther thumb them up for playing well / being nice in end chat (something i usually do to nice people, dunno if it ever does anything tbh), or select one of 4 report cathegories - one of which is being insulting in the end chat.
however, if you wish to report them for something that happened ingame, you will need to send additional proof of their offense to the support. make a couple of screenshots / make a video of them doing what they did and then submit a ticket with the additional information here: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us
be aware however, that it is mandatory that you report them ingame first! if you didnt do that, the support team wont be able to ban them. also, you wont receive any feedback regarding what happened with the player you reportet, just so you know.
have a nice day and stay safe out there!

That one and hit people with a thrown axe at 15 meters. Like seriously?! I would love a marker to let me know when I'm 10 m from the killer or 15m from a survivor. I did 3 trials as Huntress and did dang good with my throwing axes but didn't get 2 at 15m in 1 game.
Without an indicator how the heck are we gonna know precisely where we are?????
i did it by sniping people on the exit gate switches.
they cant really dodge the hatchets very well, so its rather easy to get some long range shots on them especially if its the last guy after hatch was shut).
-
okay, let me rephrase this:
no one that isnt part of the toxic / chase hungry community would want to wear that, as it would give them a competetive disadvantage in terms of not being able to play stealthy.
also a pink outfit is something else than a glowing effect comming off of your body - the later makes it literally impossible to hide anywhere, while the first just wont allow you to blend into your surroundings, yet still allows you to hide behind objects and such.
ive had many people die to their cosmetic choice, just because they tried hiding with said cosmetics and got immediately found.
in short:
i wouldnt want to have my prestige reward be a huge disadvantage ingame.
-
im very sorry to hear that, its true this community can be a handfull at times, but you shouldnt let these messages get to you. Some people will complain and act very rude towards you and others no matter what you did, so you should keep that in mind: its not your mistake, its their mindset thats problematic.
you should never take such salty comments serious.
and as others have mentioned above, in case you cant do that, you have the option to disable your chat at any given time.
for doing that, click on the little arrow icon next to the chat window and it will disappear, until you click on said icon again. and should these toxic players be super desperate for attention, they might start commenting on your profile - you can eigther just delete their messages and report them to Steam directly, or you can just do it like me and turn your profile to private / friends only. that way they wont be able to comment on it even if they wanted to.
and always remember:
should they be very insulting or aggressive towards you or anyone else in the chat (e.g. death threats - ive had a couple of these myself. childish stuff like "#########") the Devs take those very seriously, so make sure you report them ingame. this will automatically save a chatlog of the endchat and allow the support team to directly view their messages. if they somehow figured out a way to insult you outside of DbD, make sure you report them to the given services (e.g. Steam support, should they comment on your profile).
i wish you the best of luck dealing with them!
and most importantly: enjoy your time out there in the fog!
-
that would be a huge disadvantage ingame though...
i think the whole point of having that sparkle effect back then was to make it harder to hide from the killer, so they could hook you and destroy your lantern more easily.
not that i'd be against it, im just saying that gameplay wise no one would really want to wear it.
-
if you dont like content, dont buy it in the first place.
there are thousands of gameplay streams / videos out there you can use to inform yourself about the characters abilities, playstyles and perks.
-
1) his projectile hitbox is extremely small and requires a lot of precision, which makes it hard to use, plus i agree that there are some scenarios where you clearly hit the playmodel, yet the projectiles hitbox and the survivors hitbox didnt collide, therefore it counts as a miss. latency is also a big factor in this, i find it to be nearly impossible to shoot someone who is very laggy, as my shots tend to just travel through them cleanly without hitting 9 out of 10 times. but in the end its really just precision - if you get the way his gun works down you can hit a lot of your shots without a problem. also you will need to get used to the projectile travel time. He isnt one of these shooter game characters where you click your mouse button and someone immediately takes damage - he does have a projectile that needs to travel towards the survivor before it counts as a hit.
2) i agree that he is lacking a lot of map pressure, but honestly the 4.4 m/s speed does suit his power pretty well. if there is one killer that makes it extremely hard for you to loop them its Deathslinger - its not impossible, and you're gonna have to eat some pallets, but most of the time you can dominate loops other killers would struggle with (killer shack for example).
3) its not really long, you can easily reload your gun mid chase, but they will make some distance off of it. honestly, if you can land your shots, this is really not a problem, as you're gonna have to reload once, maybe twice in a chase. its a punishment for missing your shot, and luckily for us its not a very harsh one.
4) the range is a lot longer than you'd think. when i play him i usually feel like im not gonna hit anything thats a bit further away from me, until i somehow manage to get this snipe on someone barely in my range where i felt like that couldnt ever have hit - yet it did. also, an increased range isnt really gonna help, considering the time it takes to break downn the chain would be shorter than the time it takes to reel someone in from great distances.
5) i also dont like all the control a survivor has over the chain, but realing someone in isnt as hard as it sounds. did you know you can heavily restrict their movement on the chain AND pull them towards you faster by walking backwards? you should always do this, as it makes it a lot easier to reel someone in.
6) i havent really noticed any of that tbh, then on the other side, you dont really want to aim down sights with him anyway - you aim before aiming down sights and then quckscope them, thats a lot more efficient than using the aim to try and line up a shot.
i play this killer almost on a daily basis, without any Add Ons on rank 1, and unless its a group thats just out to genrush me, im doing pretty well. he is a character who requires some dedication towards him - and once you figured him out he is a LOT of fun to play.
-
No
she is the strongest killer in the game, she really doesnt need buffs.
instead i'd be all for a QoL change that makes her less frustrating to play and ofc bug fixes for her power.
-
Hadnofun and Mount Ohno
but apparenly the game thinks i love the later one, i get this map way too often.
-
had a game not too long ago with a feng who would run away from me in a straight line (i played Deathslinger), and then predropped every pallet she found.
we got rid of both god pallets (cow tree and shack) in the first few minutes of the trial and i was actually feeling bad for her throughout the entire game, as i felt like she had to be super new to the game, not knowing what she was doing, so i was nice and focussed on the others - i even considered letting her leave through hatch in the end (i didnt do that, but that was mainly due to her remaining unhooked and me wanting that BBQ stack in the end. yes, unhooked - i dropped many chases with her throughout the game or left her on the ground to let her recover, but i beat her in chases countless times with ease and she wasted basically every pallet she ran across)
the end screen revealed she was the only rank 1 survivor that group had - and the rank 10 guy put up more of a fight than her.
i have no idea how tf she made it up there tbh, i just guess im not the only one out there who felt bad for her...
-
honestly, the Hellshire Iron (probaply butchered that name, sorry xD) would be so much better if the effect would activate for, lets say, 4 seconds after succesfully realing someone in.
that way you have the ability to look around to check for any new targets, and if you didnt see any you can focus back on the chase.
same for Demogorgons aura Add On btw. it should just show auras for some time after emerging from a portal, not while traveling the upside down...
-
i asked for some free Auric Cells after purchasing a chapter with real money, as i found it unfair that i payed money for chapters that, after the shop got introduced, were now for free (the original chapters that are available for iridescent shards)
-
for starting over i would say BBQ is certainly the best choice, thanks to the double BP.
but after that i would immediately go and level Clown for Pop.
-
its similar with stealth killers - once i only realised i was the Rancor obsession when we had one gen left, cause the killer was undetectable every time a gen popped previously xD
and what a relief when someone else D-Striked them a little later... RIP that guy btw xD
-
its worse when you have discordance, only one gen left and two gens get highlighted.
that way you know for sure you're screwed, even with a 3 gen there is no way you defend that
-
note: all the listed characters are maxed out on all available perks i have. (for killers that'd be every perk ingame)
Survivor wise i have:
- Claudette - i started leveling her back in the day when Selfcare was great, and i never bothered leveling anyone else, as all survivors are just reskins of one another. i used to get the teachables i wanted from the shrine, but with the introduction of the ingame store, ive stopped purchasing perks for shards.
Killer wise i have:
- Trapper - He is my favourite Killer and the one i liked the most out of the original trio, so i started leveling him first. I also had a legacy for him at some point, but the devs arent the best at giving things back after a loss of progress, so... yeah. no legacy anymore.
- Wraith - No particular reason other than getting everyone maxed out
- Hillbilly - My old go to killer for tryharding / red rank struggles. Still one of my strongest - and thanks to his non reliability on Add Ons a great Killer to farm BPs with
- Huntress - No particular reason other than getting everyone maxed out
- Shape - No particular reason other than getting everyone maxed out
- Doctor - He was the 2nd one i prestiged. Before his DLC dropped, i had a huge burnout phase where i literally didnt touch the game for weeks, mainly due to how unbalanced and unfun the killer experience was back then and the gameplay getting very stale and boring (get looped, teabagged, instablinded and then shittalked in the endchat) - and Doc was a new killer with a really fun and unique power to play around with, so i came back - and havent left since. Btw apparently i am one of the few people who could use old Doc very efficiently - anyone saying that his "new shocktherapy is too good", i pulled the same stuff off back then with the switching, it just took more precise timing. Ever since the 2.5 second action stun was introduced he had that power, its just that not many were able to use it.
- Cannibal - he was new back then, i was hyped and actually thought he was a good killer...
- Nightmare - he was new back then, i was hyped and actually thought he was a good killer... then, so i didnt feel like i wasted my time i actually pulled off getting to rank 1 playing nothing but Freddy - its the longest it ever took me to get there, but i made it! now, after his buff, i no longer regret maxing him out.
- Clown - No particular reason other than getting everyone maxed out
- Spirit - No particular reason other than getting everyone maxed out
- Legion - after the rework i actually started playing them, as i no longer felt like a super sweaty tryhard with no skill for picking them. old Legion was garbage, im glad they removed that, Now i think they are actually quite an underrated killer.
- Plague - Work in progress, for no particular reason other than getting everyone maxed out
- Ghostface - really fun to play around with, so i started maining him for a bit. maxed him out during that time.
- Demogorgon - cause he is a good boi :3
- Oni - extremely fun, thats all i can say. really enjoy the killer up to this day.
- Deathslinger - extremely fun with a high skill ceiling - a very underrated killer imo and nowadays my go to killer when i just want to get some BPs without having to play an Add On reliant killer.

Why are they patrolling boxes though? Unless they're desperate for a kill, or they're near the generators, there's no reason for it.
Sounds like you have my luck with Hags.
well its mostly due to a currently chased team mate of mine leading them straight towards me, forcing me to eigther get grabbed off the box or run away to another one - which in both cases is a huge waste of time.
yeah guess im just the unluckiest person ever... :(

So... Wanna play a game?
lets see who has the worse luck lmao
maybe they balance each other out and i get it off at box 2 or 3? xD

it gives me something to do
honestly, i dont necessarily dislike it... unless we're talking about the grind for the last few rift levels. that one sucks. like, 12 games for 1 level? for 10 or more levels? with a timelimit? ugh...

It's a speed decrease, not a time increase. You need to divide 80 by 1-x, where x is the decrease.
1 wounded: 83.3333 s
2 wounded: 86.9565 s
3 wounded: 90.9091 s
4 wounded: 95.2381 s

Just as a quick clarification, that isn't how their math works.
Imagine it like this, the base charges per second is 1, and instead of directly changing the time, every number changing value instead modifies the charges per second. So to calculate how much time thanatophobia adds to a gen you can do 1 (1-/+ value), get the new charges per second and then put 80 over that number. Using this info we can actually see that thanatophobia adds this amount of time at tier 3 ;
1 injured player : ~83.333 seconds (+~3.333 seconds)
2 injured players : ~86.956 seconds (+~6.956 seconds)
3 injured players : ~90.909 seconds (+~10.909 seconds)
4 injured players : ~95.238 seconds (+~15.238 seconds)
Say that you wanted to account for multiple values, you'd simply do this : 1 (1-/+ value1) (1-/+ value2) and so on.
aight i messed that up then, sorry xD
wasnt sure whether it added additional time to the objective or reduced the Survivors efficiency, so glad to see i, once again, screwed up the 50/50 xD
-
you've got to do both though.
you're right in the regard that P3ing really isnt that difficult / time consuming, but its extra work nontheless, so combined with the already existing grind of getting all perks, its just too much for most people
-
ill do the math for you:
the normal gen repair speed is 80 seconds, however for each wounded survivor you take 4% longer to repair it.
that means the stats would be the following for each individual survivor:
1 injured player: 83.2 seconds (+3.2 seconds repair time)
2 injured players: 86.4 seconds (+6.4 seconds repair time)
3 injured players: 89.6 seconds (+9.6 seconds repair time)
4 injured players: 92.8 seconds (+12.8 seconds repair time)
also keep in mind that in order for the biggest slowdown to happen, all survivors need to be alive, which means you still got the full manpower on gens - every killed player will not count towards thana, so the individual slow down will decrease with each dead survivor.

I've died to a Pig RBT ONCE and that was because I was forced to!
I can also count the amount of times I've had an RBT kill on one hand. And this is even with the fact that the highest killer rank I've ever been to is 8 due to a lack of commitment.
All I can do in this situation is question what you're doing when you have the RBT active, same with your team. If all these kills are happening on Ormund or the Red Forrest with Tampered Timer/Crate of Gears, then that's just bad luck. If it's on a smaller map without any Gears/Tampered Timer, then I'm wondering who's popping generators quickly or wasting time ignoring boxes.
here is my usual scenario:
i get downed, trapped and hooked. usually a gen pops while im on hook / right after being trapped, so the trap is active from the get go (im solo so i cant just tell my team to hold a gen at 99% or sthg like that).
after being unhooked i go for boxes immediately. the amount of boxes / time required for each box / time my trap has is dependent on the killers add on choice ofc. during said box hunt, i get laughed at at all the boxes i check until there is only one left (cause luck based power and i am the unluckiest person in existance) - plus i got to avoid the killer who is also checking on boxes / looping a teammate around one, as i am injured and its easy to rehook me, which not only cuts my life down but also can end up wasting a lot of time.
all of that eats away on my time, and if the killer eigther interrupts my box search, got add ons that increase the search, has a tampered timer or just a huge map, ill die while searching through the last remaining box due to timing out - just sucks when thats my key box, doesnt at all matter when its not though.
i just hate how inconsistent her power is for both killer and survivor.
in general im not a fan of luck based powers, they are very inconsistent and not fitting for a competetive game such as DbD - its the main problem i have with my favourite killer (the Trapper), however for him its luckily just a small sideaspect of the power, allowing me to still enjoy him a lot - but piggys main power is literally build around that luck aspect, which is why i really dont like her.
-
Pig for both
i just cant stand RNG based powers.
okay technically speaking there is no RNG involved with pig, but whether you get a trap off on a box or not is still 100% luck based. its extremely inconsistent which i hate on both sides.
as a killer they always get my traps off asap, while as a survivor its always in the last box. like, i died to a pig trap 3 games in a row, just because we had a big map and the key happened to be in the last box. cool, amazing. i learned so much from that match that helped me improve for future matches - its basically just run at the box and dont give a f*ck about the killer, cause if you dont and the key is in the last box you're gonna run out of time. just pray the killer wont go for you and let you do the box.
they gotta make the traps consistent, where i as a survivor can tell when i get rid of it, while i as a killer can be assured they wont be getting rid of it asap, wasting my power.
-
i hate going against her, but thats mainly due to how her RBTs work. (no offense to the character, i still love Miss Piggy - but i seriously hate how her power works)
every time i get trapped, the key is in the last f*cking box i check. every. single. time.
i have died to the timer countless times, just cause it was a big map and the time it took me to check all the boxes (combined with the killer being around ofc - and sometimes bringing add ons that would increase the search time, reduce the timer or just in general increase the amount of boxes) was more than 2.5 minutes...
and when i play her they all get the trap off of their head first or second try.
i hate luck based powers, and pig has exactly that.
i honestly just wish they would finally decie to buff her and while they are at it rework her RBTs to be consistant. something like "you get the key after checking X amount of boxes" would be enough - just let it be consistent so that i as a survivor know when i get rid of it, while i as a killer know my trap will not be removed within 10 seconds.
-
for Killer id say NOED, Bamboozle and the Enduring + Spirit Fury combo.
for Survivor id say Selfcare, Urban Evasion, Borrowed Time, Sprint Burst
-
if he does that before the EGC started, its considered a reportable offense.
if he does that after the EGC started its fine, as there is a set time limit to that action.
in general you need to report a player ingame and then, in such cases, file a support ticket here: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us and send additional proof of them doing it in form of screenshots or a video.
-
Artifact items are items given to very specific people.
they are items that no one but this one person has - i believe Ohmwrecker has an artifact Wraith skin. it looks basically like the one from the charity case, but has minor differences and is specifically for him.
a normal DbD player like us wil probaply never get to obtain one.

Thing is, if I'm playing killer and I know the survivors are good at chases it's not practical to chase them, it's basically forfeiting the match. So waiting for your prey to come to you is the best option. Honestly there's no right or wrong answer to 3 gens, but I would think they swing more in the killers favor. Simply because if it wasn't intended or if it was such a huge problem, the devs would have done something about it by now.
let me try to be more precise:
the goal of each side is to deny the opposing side to progress their objective, while progressing their own. that is optimal gameplay, this is how 3 gen scenarios happen and thats how they should be used.
however, it gets a reportable offense when one side focusses on denying the progress of the other sides objective, without progressing their own. with this you stall out games indefinitely and make the whole experience extremely unfun for everyone else. this is how 3 gen scenarios CAN be used (but tbh in order to do that you must be playing very specific killers with very specific loadouts (e.g. impossible skillcheck doc), otherwise you are going to lose a gen sooner or later), but should not be. in this case you would do the equivalent to survivors hiding all game, not touching any gens - which we all agree is considered a game taken hostage.
the big difference here is, that the killer is reliant on the survivors to be able to progress his objective, therefore its a lot easier for them to abuse this situation and take the game hostage. but as soon as the survivors become reliant on the killer to be able to progress theirs any further (a scenario a 3 gen can definitely offer), this can lead to abuse of said scenario by the killer.
it is not likely to happen, it has to be a thing for long amounts of time and it has to be clear that the killer has no intention of killing anyone anymore at this point, but only cares about keeping the gens under lockdown (=> not allowing one side to progress their objective while not progressing their own).
-
i have no issues with that whatsoever.
-
@Rydog said:
@Bovinity @Mister_xD I'd think the difference would boil down to:
- Killer is carefully guarding the three generators, regressing them, and actively attacking and chasing off survivors who are in his "sphere of influence" (which is what I do in these situations).
- Killer is guarding the three generators, keeping them regressed to an untouched state, and making no attempt whatsoever to attack or otherwise pressure survivors (which would stall the game out indefinitely).
thank you, that sums it up very nicely.
-

Again, there's no way to actually determine or enforce that. All you're saying is that killers must surrender a 3-gen or else risk being reported because, "Oh, Meg got in view and kept running away and you didn't chase! That's a ban!"
Also, where is the survivor responsibility in all this? Why is the responsibility to surrender entirely on the killer?
again:
we are talking about EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS.
no you will not be banned for dropping a chase and start a new one with someone on a gen. but if you were to do that for lets say 30 minutes or more without ever committing to a chase or taking downs, that would be you taking the game hostage. at that point you would be just as bad as that 4 man SWF doing nothing but hiding from the very start - evading the killer is also not a bannable offense, unless its done in EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS. what is an "excessive amount"? i dont know. i dont even think the devs know. thats entirely up to the support team member viewing the video of the match that has been send in as additional proof.
i am not telling you to "surrender your 3 gen", all i am saying is you should still be aiming to bring the game to an end. you may be dropping one, two, three maybe even four chases, no one cares! as long as you will still try to win the game instead of shifting your goal soley to not letting a gen pop everything is fine.
the mentioned situation is nothing anyone would ever experience in normal games, unless the killer is intentionally doing it.
you defending your 3 gen is perfectly fine.

About the 3 gen... Are you saying that the killer should be punished for survivors 3 gen'ing themselves while doing their job of defending them?
The whole point of killer is to prevent gens from being done first and foremost. Then your next objective is killing survivors. I do main survivor and can't agree at all with this being something to report someone for. Survivors put themselves into 3 gens in the first place.
And while we're on the topic. Isn't it true that by refusing to work on gens because they're being guarded, the survivors are holding the game hostage?
Also, who determines if it's "excessive" as you called it? That's incredibly subjective.
i edited the main comment, this may anwer some questions.
regarding the definition of excessive: there is no clear definition.
but if you were to find a killer who would only care about defending his gens, not downing or hooking anyone for long amounts of time (again: no clear definition. but if you've not been able to get gens done for like 20 minutes while there were no hooks achieved during that time aswell, i would report that. whether it actually leads to a ban or not is up to the support team viewing the proof video you need to send in such cases) that would be a game held hostage.

But what's the line on that, exactly?
This is why I'm 99% sure that it's not a rule at all, because there's no clear, defined criteria. It's just, "Well, you can defend, but don't DEFEND, know what I mean?"
there is no "clear defined criteria" in any of these.
hiding from the killer is also not a reportable offense after all, unless its done for long amounts of time, which again is not clearly defined.
if you encounter a killer who will defend his 3 gen for like a whole hour without ever committing to chases, that would be reportable.
if you encounter a killer who defends his 3 gen and still downs and hooks survivors when he has the opportunity to, thats not.

Is this list cited anywhere? Because I have DEFINITELY three-genned maps really hard and denied the heck out of them to the survivors. But when I do this, I'm also always actively trying to find, damage, and hook survivors, BUT always prioritizing my gen dominance over a risky chase that would take me too far away to keep them locked down.
I would think that if the intention isn't to maliciously hold the game hostage, but rather to press an advantage for a slightly protracted win, it's OK. One of my most exciting recent survivor matches was vs. a Deathslinger who did this to us, and everyone in the game was very committed to getting the win. We lost, but it was a great game of cat and mouse.
as long as you are still aiming to kill them, that progresses the game.
im not saying that dropping a chase or two to defend your gen setup was reportable, i was referring to very excessive cases, such as killers refusing to chase survivors with the sole purpose of not letting them finish gens for very long amounts of time.

"defending a 3 gen without ever committing a chase, therefore not hooking anyone while also not allowing for the geerators to be progressed for long periodes of time"
I'm still waiting on some confirmation on this. It's one of those things that people say, but it really makes no sense. It basically reads as, "Killer must concede any 3-gen situation."
i am very sure i have read a Dev response on another post with this topic stating, that defending a 3 gen is not considered a "reportable offense", unless the killer does it very excessively without doing anything besides making it impossible to get gens, therefoe not progressing the game himself while also not allowing for any progress on the survivors part, hence holding the game hostage.
maybe @Peanits could give some clarification on this topic though, i might be mistaken.

any action that increases thelength of the game by a long amount of time without progressing it.
reportable actions would be:
- bodyblocking a survivor in a corner for long periodes of time
- hiding and not doing any generators for long periodes of time (only when every survivor remaining in the trial does it)
- defending a 3 gen without ever committing a chase, therefore not hooking anyone while also not allowing for the geerators to be progressed for long periodes of time EDIT: as this has been misunderstood a lot: i am referring to very excessive cases where a killer refuses to progress the game on their part (not chasing / hooking), while simultaneously not allowing the survivors to progress the game in any way. i am not saying at all that a 3 gen was reportable, hence the same situation being listed in the "not reportable actions" section of the comment.
- ...
not reportable actions would be:
- slugging
- bodyblocking a survvivor in a corner during the EGC
- camping
- defending a 3 gen (unless its excessive as mentioned above)
- ...
(those are just a few examples, there are more reportablele and non reportable actions ofc)
the difference between these two is, that the above mentioned actions are something one side can do that the other side cant counter, so they are forced to quit the game if nothing happens, while the below mentioned actions all have a set timer to them that ends the action after a while.
Slugging for the 4k as you brought up as an example is not considered "holding the game hostage", due to the bleed out bar a survivor in the dying state has. once that expires they die and hatch becomes available, forcefully progressing the game.

i feel like this would be a huge buff to all stealth related killers, as it would tremendously reduce a survivors map awareness while working on the objective.
just imagine a Myers, Ghostface, Wraith, heck even Deathslinger with this - the amount of gengrabs would be insane / the stalk Michael or Ghosti would get off would be a lot more than now.
i get where you are coming from, but i dont think this would be a very good implementation.

How about teammates who loop the killer around a hooked teammate. They refuse to risk taking even one hit so they loop and loop and loop until the poor person gets 1-hooked.
For extra icing they also complain about camping post game chat
there are a lot of things that i hate happening - thats one of them, but when the killer isnt tunneling and someone else comes in with BT you can still work around it.
another annoying thing are Hook farmers, DCers (including hook suicide), sandbaggers, people selfcaring against a sloppy butcher killer or people that ignore you on the hook all game until you die.

You misunderstand me..I was at a loop..I trapped the loop to set up a mind game..he burned it instantly and I couldnt stop him..and I couldnt go after his team either because he was tailing me..I was effectively being hard countered by a yellow item dude..nonsense ..sldo do not forget there are strats people use to fight hag and she cant be everywhere even with her traps..plus she uses valuable time setting them constantly..its way overkill
im sorry dude but if you allow a survivor to destroy your traps mid chase that sounds like a you-issue to me.
there is no way you should ever allow someone to lightburn your traps while you are chasing them - that takes several seconds of them having to walk and look at the trap, shining their flashlight at it - you should have PLENTY of time to smack em during that.

i have noticed that a lot myself tbh.
its an issue i like to call "overbalancing" - whenever they create something strong they make sure to add so many downsides or restrictions to it that its basically useless again - the Nurses add on rework is a great exampe for that.
everyone said that 3 blink Nurse was too strong - so they buffed that add ons rarity from Rare to Ultra Rare PLUS they added a huge negative effect on it, making the new 3 blink Nurse literally worse than an add on less Nurse.
or look at Gearhead. The one perk from the Chains of Hate DLC that actually had potential to mix up some of my killer builds - nerfed uppon release. No one understands why, i havent seen a single person complain about this, in its prime time already gimmicky and niche perk, yet they hard nerfed it.
or look at the Iridescent Coin the Deathslinger has - a 15m shot? excuse me? thats so extremely situational its like you're not even running an Add On to begin with! and thats Ultra Rare...
there are a lot of examples for this, but i think you get my point.
