How would you punish toxic killers btw?

why are you people even trying with the 'let's bring in this obviously falls and ridiculous scenario to pretend that my opinion is better' rhetoric.

You know that things like that would NOT count into it. but nice try.

First of all, Tombstone is not overpowered. Second, growing a thicker skin basically means enduring all the toxicity until you learn to ignore it, which everyone does eventually. But why make people go through that? Come on, you have to admit that toxicity must go.

tombstone appear OP because of how people play. Myers is a killer where the 'doing gens and chases' is counterproductive. There's a couple of killers in the roster that are decently powered but are deemed OP because people sticking to that tactic benefits them. In Michael's case it's the outright refusal to break the line of sight.

How can someone be so triggered by stuff like teabagging or vault-spamming? Teabagging and vault-spamming has no gameplay-purpose, no reason to punish it with a severe gameplay-penalty.

People want to play like Myers in the Movies, but complain when the Survivors vault-spam or teabag...

Using 'triggered' as a way of saying 'annoyed'... Cut the ableism.

    To everyone else:

vaulting etc are meant to annoy the player behind the killer to the point of DCing. people who do this rarely do anything worthwhile in the match, because they entered a lobby with the intent of 'winning' by getting the killer to DC.

So, they ought to pay for their hubris.

Yes, toxic gameplay should be punished. It is unhealthy for the game. And this suggestion, while difficult to implement, could be a step towards making killers feared.

It wouldn't be overly hard to implement, interestingly:

The game can, as noted, tell where people are, who is doing what, etc. It could even, for example, tell apart 'friendly' or 'helpful' (to teammates) teabagging from malicious one, by seeing where people are in relation to each other. how often someone crouches, how the killer reacts etc.

The mechanics are there. It would still be tricky, sure.

BHVR wants to make money I think that's the reason they do this chapter stuff the way they do.

Personally I would love it if they reworked really awful perks on both sides and made a plethora of QoL changes / put through things like the key rework and upcoming add on passes for certain killers and focused on fixing as many bug issues in a big like, fix update rather than forcing out a new chapter with a killer + survivor.

Like don't get me wrong, I know that new chapters are vitally important for the health of the game because they keep people interested. Without new content the content creators and streamers kind of lose interest as evidenced by the awkward and painful time in between chapters. I just really wish they'd prioritize making the game less of a buggy mess though like The Binding of Kin was a DISASTER and BHVR probably wants everyone to forget about how bad it was on rollout but I'm here to say don't forget.

We need CLEAN rollouts for new chapters and a game that functions. I'm not saying it should be perfect but extreme game breaking bugs and huge problems that somehow slip past development are kind of unacceptable.

On the question of money, one has to wonder: would the community really not be willing to pay for a questline chapter that would bring several cosmetics as reward?

Sure, cosmetics are more expensive than chapters, but that's the thing: wouldn't more people buy something if it'd provide more things thus increasing the gain at bottom line (economics are a mess)

Problem is the lore and art team would be left with little to do. Making two killer cosmetics is much less time consuming than a whole new killer.

How so? Maps and cosmetics need both of these departments.

Survivors are a bit different but even having a new survivor to prestige gives people things to do otherwise they will quit due to boredom

As for killers they are needed to keep variety and for the people who don’t have a main yet to enjoy someone else. I do agree there needs to be more time to polish these but chapters as a whole aren’t a bad concept

    First, sorry for being snappy.

Second: While I get that grinding gives people something to do, grinding like we have it is iirc commonly called 'endgame fatigue' meaning you reached a point in a game where you do X to get Y to do X (a little better) to get Y to do X... the issue with DbD is the entire game right now is endgame fatigue.

I'm not saying we don't need chapter as such. I'm saying that having them expand the rosters isn't necessary at bottom line. It might be better if chapters would be further apart and provide more: maps maybe, maybe even new game modes or questlines, who knows. But as it stands now the the last two chapters could have very well been just the perks put onto existing characters (what to do with the lore is up for debate, some like it, some don't, I think there was no need to tie it to the characters like this).

  • @Phasmamain said:

Paragraph’s are only done for a new license. If one new non licensed survivor came out nobody would care

I’m fine with chapter’s because I play both sides so I have something to grind for for another while

That's... not the point I'm trying to make, thanks for missing it.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I don't, cuz you know why?

    That survivor looks good.

Couldn't care less about anything else.

So? So does Elodie, her chapter still sucks and her perks are too situational (it's like they're made for an entirely different gameplay dynamic).

  • I think the feeling comes from the 'you're gonna love this' vibe the whole thing with the teasers and social media takeover etc is giving.

It's very much the 'how you doing fellow kids' meme, and in context of what's to come (after all it's just another chapter) it's too much...

  • @Pulsar said:

It's a strategy. You don't fault Survivors for being efficient on gens, why fault Killers for being efficient on hooks.

The best thing for a Killer to do is make the game a 3v1 ASAP.

'efficient'... is probably not the word you are looking for here.

because 'efficient' means 'knowing the maps, killer and common tactics well enough to get kills in without resorting to scummy gameplay. but I guess that'd require some basic skill of people

  • I am SO glad I know NONE of you people who are crying 'its a pvp game' irl

  • you need to change your delivery, the current one's fortune cookies suck

I guess you just enjoy to dismiss people having a different opinion to yours.

I'll leave it at that, as I know from personal experience that arguing with someone like that is practically impossible.

Just know this: open-mindedness to the opinion of others doesn't hurt. Outright being dismissive to them, however, does.

You are dismissive of the opinion that this 'new' lore sucks because... why exactly? No note on 'why' it fits (compared to people noting why is doesn't).

When I go through the thread and see how people think it's 'fine' because it's dark and gritty, then... no, those things are not qualifiers.

Please do tell me: What would have been wrong (because I get the sense people who like the new mess are convinced nothing else would have fit) with the impression the initial lore gave: that sally went on a killing spree over, potentially, the doctors and nurses etc being cruel to the patients once again, and she just snapped, killing them and then mercy killing the patients before falling catatonic?

What would have been wrong with that? Why have her feel like her new lore was hastily thrown together from leftovers from the doctor instead?

EDIT: sidenote, talking about being dismissive: were'nt you the person who was super dismissive and condescending towards people who said they'll disconnect against certain killers because they give those folks a kind of stress that is, well, distressing and shouldn't happen in a controlled environment such as a videogame? or was that someone else with a felix avatar?

  • @Alionis said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1979510#Comment_1979510

There's no reason to be so dismissive of @Gruo. I agree with their opinion on the nurse's motives judging from the existing lore and I majored in English. Wanna tell me that I lack reading comprehension as well?

so you majored in english, so what. Doesn't make you more qualified than anyone else, and the fact that you tried to play that card makes you even less qualified.

Because looking at Nurse's initial lore entry there's a tone of her getting her ideas of the world (and good in it) was shattered upon working at the asylum for years. the new tome entry however provides us with the idea that she always had a despicable view on others. That's a difference in tone and theme that's quite crass.

Also, the people defending the new lore seem quite keen on having lore as dark and edgy and gritty as possible, whether it's good for the character or not. And no, just because this is a horror game doesn't justify having things be darker and edgier for the sake of it.

Sally's new lore is... just not good writing. There's shock-value for shock-value's sake, and that's it.

  • @Gruo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1978327#Comment_1978327

The Devs stayed true to the Nurse lore, they didn't change anything about it. In her original lore she joined the asylum because she had to, not because she wanted to help people. The idea of purification have been mentioned there as well.

sigh Look, I know you probably lack the reading comprehension to get what the difference is, so I won't bother explaining. But y'know, when about as many people in the community say the tome entry felt wrong for the nurse as there were people saying the new UI sucks... are you going to defend the new (not new new) ui design as brilliant and fitting?

  • It isn't good.

Sure, you may like it, but the issue is, as many have rightfully pointed out, it doesn't fit with what had been there with the nurse before.

Sally was the emotional counterpart to the later added Doctor. Her Mori has an air of a mercy killing etc. Making her this cold, calculating person that sees everyone below her and will kill to free herself of those beneath her, putting herselg above god or something...

Sorry, but that's Herman Carter, not Sally Smithson.

Sally's entire tome entry reads as if it was carelessly thrown together from old drafts for the Doctor's entry (btw: his entry is not detached at all) possibly because someone at BHVR figured having three killers get sympathetic backstories in a row would... drive away paying customers? (develop logic in gaming is all over the place, and cross your heart, would you be surprised)

But making Sally sympathetic, despairing over the cruelty she's witnessing and going on a killing spree out of misguided care and mercy (not counting smithing (hah) those that commited cruelty) would have been good.

Killer that are just bastards like doctor, clown or ghostface, they don't need lore entries to make them sympathetic. They are made to be hated. But Sally? Just like Billy and Phillip, her story is one where the feeling of the entity already messing things up to 'unleash' potential should be there.

Given that they think his pallets are stronger than his puddles....no...probably not.

However no he does not need a rework. Hell is is almost fair, the problem is his power is so spammable that anyone can play him at max efficiency because there is not much thought involved- resulting in a kill rate that is high across the board, and too much gen pressure against survivors in a normal fair game.

If you had to think about when to use his power instead of just spamming it at literally every loop, shack, thing you want and then teleporting anytime tinkerer procs- he wouldn't be that bad. His power is ALWAYS up. If they made him have to actually think about his power, not be able to teleport almost all the time, he would be fine.

They don't need to nerf him too awfully much they just need to raise his skill ceiling so he only wins games when he plays well instead of just by spamming his power with no repercussions.

his power is spamable and the counterplay for him is disadvantageous to survivors. The combination of both makes things a problem.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

He will probably be nerfed around mid march or sooner, whenever the next update hits.

    Just hold on until then!

His win rate is only like a little higher than spirit's, so if you can endure spirit for years you should be able to suffer through Freddy for just a few more weeks haha.

Question is: are the devs aware what drives his killrate so high? Because, frankly? it's a bit of a list that all together calls for yet another complete rework

  • Given some interactions... A dragqueen maybe? I mean, DragQueens are very very active in the community.

  • *looks at clown*

    *looks at post*

excuse you, are you playing the same game?

  • @Zarathos said:

What do you want them to do? Down you and drag there slow ass across the map to start the chase again? Because someone decided leaving a killer stationery and be forced to make up distance later was a recipe for a good killer.

Twins imo are awful killer there optimum play is one note lacking in options and when played outside of camp and slug makes them the survivors "kicking" bag due to inefficiencies in there design. Probably the only killer I refuse to play of the entire rooster.

Make no mistake the twins are a mistake and a warning that the devs need to focus on efficient kiler design as opposed to thematic first. The community is to competitive for you to pump out a killer with inefficiencies and expect us to look past the streak of losses coming and say they will find some audience.

What a waste of time and resources!

^^^ this. The way the twins' power works it calls for camping and rewards it (similar to bubba). Without a complete power overhaul (be it charlotte not being able to move until victor returns, be it victor taking control of the survivor etc) this won't change

  • whether it's the killer or survivor they are teasing, personally I feel kinda annoyed by them right. Can't put my finger on why, but something 'bout them has the potential to attract the same kind of toxics that nea and bubba attract.

EDIT: been thinking about it, and the reason things annoyed me was because the impression I was under was that of the new character being one of those pretentious h4xx0r-kiddies, but I believe I was wrong, so... let's see what we'll get.

  • MacMillan, Ironwork, a survivor (a nea I think), drops down at the mainbuilding, pretty much right onto me (playing killer). We very much gave each other a good fright there judging by how we just stood there looking at each other for a moment. Then she just slowly turned and walked (walked!) away. I did the same. (in the end she came up to me and let herself get gobbled up by the ECG ;_; )

  • @ILoveDemo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1964213#Comment_1964213

No, mostly Killers cry for easy games. And most people know that.

Do we need to bring up ALL the quotes from any given social media platform the devs use and survivors crying bloody murder about how this and that killer needs to be nerfed if not removed at all, and when you dig deeper for their reasoning it turns out they deem killer broken because they can't run them easily/in general can't apply their uninspired 'endless loops chase' approach?

    But seriously now:

The issue is with entitles brats on both sides: Players who demand an 'iWin' button. Survivors who seem to only think the game is good if they can insta-finish gens and insta-wiggle off while stunning the killer for the entire match, and killers who want a 4k by so much as looking at the dbd icon on their desktop/dashboard.

And it's these brats that drown out the genuine helpful feedback. Things like why the killrate with freddy/bubba/spirit is off-balance, reasons why certain perks need to be overhauled etc. The brats just drown them out. Be angry at those people, not the rest

  • On the new PC have you gone into your steam library and made sure the DLCs are activated (library -> dbd -> properties -> dlc)?

  • I wouldn't say the doctor is smart. Intelligent, yeah, with a good memory, but in order to be smart knowledge oughta be applied outside of its own field, which we never really see the doctor do. He merely copies other people and takes things to extremes, but he's not actually doing anything new.

    Deathslinger and Billy however...

  • The 'why' they do this is simple:

Please investors, who likely never played a game in their life. Investors who think that photorealistic graphics and animations make a good game that will sell well and continue to make money, because they are that detached from reality.

Look at the recent video bhvr published about the map updates. Not even a minute in and they are talking about optimizing things for next gen consoles, which is a massive middle finger towards a great chunk of the player base who are NOT running the game on next gen consoles or high-end gaming PCs.

But the investors say jump and bhvr is expected to not just ask 'how high' but also 'where off'.

  • God, I hope they actually disabled that godawful idea.

  • The answer to all is, mostly, it's some bizarre psychological thing:

Especially in western society we are taught from childhood on that you MUST always win, always be right etc. This is something that reflects in the way we play games. There's rarely a 'play together' and even games with no (outright) competitive elements get turned into competitions.

In the case of DbD the mindset of many appears to be that you must not just play better than your opponent but thoroughly devastate them. Mock them, humiliate them etc.

One beloved way to do this (as survivor) is the looping-and-juking approach, and when a killer puts an end to that without playing scummy, they hate it. And they won't look at themselves for what went 'wrong'. It must be the killers fault, or the teammates. A very good example is people sitting injured in the gate against Deathslinger and then complaining when they get pulled out.

On the side of killers things like noed, camping etc are a common way to be self-absorbed, and killers that have broken mechanics like Bubba, freddy or spirit (broken in the sense that they are easily exploitable) are favoured by people who play to feed their ego.

  • For everyone bringing up the player numbers:

Check Warframe's numbers. Check how big the company is. Check on what platforms it runs. Check the graphics, the style, the content and the accessibility.

And then tell me again that BHVR is doing anything 'as good as they possibly can'.

  • @apathyinc said:

Crazy, it almost seems like they are doing an overhaul by replacing maps, HUD, animations...

that's not the overhaul the game needs though. that's something to please investors who don't know why people play a game.

What dbd needs is an overhaul in terms of gameplay mechanics, perk system etc. substance, not looks

  • It's a bizarre psychological effect of 'you must win at all costs'. This is why so many people in the community throw tantrum when there is a killer that messes with their 'rush the gens and loop the killer' tactic.

What we see here is someone severely overestimating their abilities. They play poor Claudette because she 'blends in easily', meaning the person pretends to be good at stealth/map knowledge while they are not. And then the aforementioned loopy genrush doesn't work out the the person in question goes backstabby because if they can get hatch in their mind they are 'the only one with enough skill to escape'.

It's rotten to its core and one of the mainfactors that keep this game from being as good as it could be, unfortunately.

  • Radical idea: work on making the community less toxic... i know i know, unrealistic....

  • also it gets the better ui and a lot of cosmetics before the main game

    (give me my dwegion!)

  • TBH most people didn't hate it cause it was new (as some claim), people severely disliked the new HUD because it undid things the old HUD did pretty well:

Providing Information effectively. The new HUD was all over the place and some new elements are still baffling. The Portraits, for example. Good idea, but if it's only the standard portrait it becomes a little absurd. If at some point they can show the character with the cosmetics they are wearing, then it'd be great, but right now it just feels off.

The general placement of things was the biggest issue. The old layout provided vital info at one glance. The new one had you flick your eyes all over the place (depending on your screen, though) drawing attention away from the central row where the action takes place.

And then we got the information that they 'cannot change it back without undoing the whole new system' which to many translated to 'this new UI will never be customizable' which felt like a great big middlefinger.

A lot of people speculate that this new UI, the 'realistic' animations etc are meant to please investors who things that realism is the ultimate everything.

DbD is a game with its own style, and the new animations and UI look go against it. As said in another thread, the way the mechanics work having movement stop when the animation stops is hindering for both sides. And there has been about everything said about why the new UI is clashing with the 'feel' of DbD (aside from it just boggling the mind as to why they didn't use the adept portraits UNTIL they might be able to show the actual character portraits, as in 'show the cosmetics a specific character is wearing')

Or just remove the different levels of perks...

The perks in general need a massive overhaul. But you'd still have some grind for items etc. Also, selling items could be one way to clean up ones inventory, which is also nice.

In short: Perk overhaul and the points above in combo

  • @Tsulan said:

Drop the pallet earlier? I´ve been getting 3 or 4 man escapes all day. Only time the killer gets a 3 or 4k is when someone rage quits early on.

Tsulan, I am happy for you that you don't have an issue with the new update, but a lot of people are rightfully fed up:

    • The new UI has been criticized as counterproductive etc before it even hit the PTB. But instead of changing it (not even BACK, just changing the layout and icons, that was all people asked) the devs pushed it through and are now clambering to do some damage control, after pretty much lying to our faces about how they cannot change it back.
    • The new animations are as counterproductive to the gameplay as is the 'new' UI. DbD is a game where having the movement end when the animation ends is not a good idea because you often have to react quickly.

All in all people are angry that bhvr seems more focused on pleasing some investors that have never played a game in their lives by making the game LOOK great and REALISTIC (read that with as much vitriol as you can msuter) but at the costs of making the game unplayable because the look (and its performance cost) hinder the actual gameplay.

Add to that the general sense of the devs mocking the community at every turn, the general lack of communication, etc and... people absolutely have a right to leave for good.

There are games that have a smaller team, a massively bigger playerbase and yet run better, look better and are more fun. Just they are a different genre. BHVR should honestly not be rewarded for the shoddy, uncaring demeanour they display towards the community.
